little bit solo today, mister Trey Falco should be back
(01:02):
with us tomorrow, but we also invite you to join
the conversation eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. Get that number is eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. We have NBA playoffs
to talk about, some craziness going on there with the
Warriors and Draymond Green, how that game ended, and then
(01:24):
a massive blowout in the NBA. And that's why I
still contend that in the first round I would be
okay with a five game series rather than a seven
game series because of the matchups that we have. And
so I'm looking forward tomorrow talking with our NBA analyst,
our NBA guru, and I promise you will get smarter
(01:44):
about the NBA if you listen to Hoops tonight with
Jason temp He will join us in the second segment
as he does each and every Wednesday, and we'll get
smarter about the NBA playoffs and some big games tomorrow.
There's no question as the Laker are right on the
verge of being eliminated in the first round. And I
(02:04):
do want to talk about quarterback. There's been a lot
of talk about Shador Sanders and the NFL draft and
where he fell, and it made me even think though,
when you started looking at the quarterbacks and where these
teams are drafting quarterbacks and why these teams are drafting
quarterbacks and then we want to tie it into Aaron Rodgers.
(02:26):
But first, there was news that hit yesterday and we
didn't get a chance to talk about it. But I
do want to talk about it, and that's the ACC
is looking at. According to CBS reports that ACC is
considering reducing conference basketball schedule to help boost the league's
(02:46):
NCAA tournament profile. So again, according to the reports, that
the ACC may cut to eighteen conference games in twenty
twenty five instead of the twenty conference games, which they
have been doing over the past several years since the
expansion of the ACC. Now, according to the CBS report,
(03:08):
they're wanting to do this to schedule marquee non conference games,
aiming to boost the strength of schedule and the net
rankings for the potential of more NCAA bids. And as
I just mentioned, the league's NCAA tournament profile, So is
(03:29):
it an image thing? And so knowing that the ACC
has actually talked about this for the past couple of
years now and decided last year not to move forward
with reducing the games, and we know there's all types
of talk about the ACC, which has historically been known
as a really good basketball conference has slipped over the years,
(03:53):
and so is this about dollars? Is it about image
or is it about survival? And I'm wondering if it's
all of those things. And so the question though, what
is the real driver here? Is it the image of
the ACC? Is it to boost the tournament profile? Yes,
(04:14):
in part it is, because we do know there's human
element into the NCAA selection committee, But there's also its
data driven in which I do like that. But to
be able to get some of those data points, it's
the quad one wins, it's the net rankings, it's the
kin Pom rankings, it's all of those things. And over
(04:34):
the past few years, the ACC's NCAA tournament bids have
been shrinking. Think about this, just four teams out of
the projected eighteen and twenty twenty five and that's a
decade ago, about half of what the ACC would get.
And Kim Palm ranks the ACC sixth among power conferences
(04:57):
right now. So there's definitely been a dip. But what's
the real driver. It's not hard, it's money. More NCAA
tournament bids equals more revenue. Each bid earns roughly two
million dollars per school in twenty twenty four, and that's
(05:17):
per NCAA distributions, and it also will boost TV deals.
Remember the ACC's contract with ESPN six hundred and twenty
million dollars per year through twenty thirty six, And that
was the big sticking point with Clemson and Florida State
and the grant of rights and trying to get out
(05:37):
of that contract which they were legally bound to and
could not find a significant loophole that would get them
out of that without a really long drawn out and
very expensive lawsuit. Now the SEC is a big focal
point in this because the ACC is trying to catch
(05:59):
up quote unquote catch up to the SEC. They had
thirteen bids, fourteen bids, excuse me, and their annual revenue
from TV nine hundred million dollars. The athletic budgets of
SE schools are so much bigger than ACC schools. And
(06:19):
then you even look from the perspective of head to
head thirty and four versus the ACC this past season,
that's not good. And we saw what happened in the
ACC SEC Challenge where only two ACC teams one one
of those for the Clemson Tigers. Beating Kentucky. But it's
(06:40):
the SEC that continues to brag and we know it
just means more. And they've even bragged about not only
the NCAA bids that they had with fourteen eight college
football playoff teams, seventy NFL draft picks. And I still quit.
I shouldn't Why there's no trophy for it. You don't
(07:03):
get any extra recognition. But it's all about brand, because
brand equals bank, brand equals money, and that's the significant thing.
And that's why the ACC is looking at opportunities how
can they increase their brand? And so I do believe
(07:23):
that this could work in a short term basis cause
stronger schedules, as we've talked about, could equal more bids,
and we know the more bids you have equals more money.
Because the NCAA, their selection committee, they do love the
net rankings and the strength of schedule the ACC and
twenty twenty four non conference strength of schedule ranked fifth.
(07:47):
You had two eight games that could push it into
the top three, adding potentially another one to two bids,
and then all of a sudden you're looking at roughly
two million dollars per school. Now look at Duke their
win over Auburn, which had a net number three. It
was a quad win victory that obviously strengthen their resume.
(08:09):
More wins for Clemson, North Carolina or pitt could lift
up the league. So there is this opportunity of getting
some of these non conference games that could help your
strength of schedule. And according to some of the reports,
conferences with top twenty five non conference strength of schedule
averaged one and a half more NCAA bids roughly three
(08:33):
million dollars from twenty twenty to twenty twenty four. So
the ACC is looking at some of the hard numbers
here and saying, well, maybe this is something significant. Now.
National exposure also fuels revenue, and that's why this could work.
Marquee games draw bigger audiences than ACC network matchups. I
(08:55):
think if you're a Clemson fan, and this is no
disrespect to some of the other the ACC teams, but
wouldn't you want to see Clemson versus Kentucky or would
you want to see Clemson versus Kansas those type of
games rather than traveling up to Boston College. I think
there's something to that. And you also could you have
(09:17):
a recruiting edge high profile wins attract top talent, and
that's significant in the NIL era. Now the big thing, though,
is that you got to go win these games. So
it's one thing to go schedule these games, but ultimately
you're going to have to win those and I think
(09:38):
that's one of the things that gets missed in all
of this. It's great that you go schedule them, but
it's all about winning. And as much as we want
to look at conference A, Conference B, Conference C, it's
are those teams winning in their conference and also out
of their conference? And I do think that's significant, But
(10:00):
here's some reasons why I'm not certain it really matters
if the ACC tries to adjust it, and why it
might not work because we just talked about it. The
scheduling and winning are tough elite teams. They're already booked
for all of these multi team events, from the Malle
Invitational to the Big Twelve, Big East Battle. You also
(10:23):
have all of these other scenarios playing out playing in
Puerto Rico, you have the Madison Square Garden Invitational. There's
so many different multi team events and quote unquote tournaments
that it's hard for these elite teams to continue to
have gaps in their schedule, and at the end of
(10:45):
the day, if the A SEC teams keep losing, it's
a wash because it doesn't matter. Now. I know you
might look at it from a perspective that you're not
getting penalized as much if you're losing to a team
that's in the top ten as far as net rankings,
but still it's not enough to move the needle. You
(11:06):
have to have wins. And I think also you have
to look at it from the money side. The money
race is a zero sum game. We know the SEC
it's all about bragging. We just talked about it. Fourteen
NCAA bids seventy NFL draft picks in the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft, more than any conference in history. Well
(11:31):
do you do remember you just expanded, So there is
something to be said about that. But it's about perception.
It's not trophies. There's no extra trophy that you get
for that. But it does drive TV deals and nil.
But at the end of the day, that zero sum
game because only one conference can win annually and that
(11:53):
leads the other ones out. But isn't this more about
the totality of college athletics College football college basketball and
conferences fighting for supremacy is only hurting college sports. We
don't see this in the NFL. The NFL doesn't have
AFC versus NFC, and that the AFC is making more
(12:17):
money than the NFC. It's all one league, one goal,
So everybody rises when the entire entity rises, and I
just don't think it's a sustainable model. I believe it's
unsustainable because conference realignment. You just saw SEC adding Texas, Oklahoma,
Big Ten grabbing Southern Cow UCLA. It's about TV markets,
(12:43):
not competition. And I do no fans they don't like
deluded rivalries though, so cutting ACC games you risk the
Duke North Carolina type of rivalry. And some people would
say why even bother with the regular season, But within
IAM and the transfer portal, the mid tier ACC teams
(13:03):
and even the SEC and the Big Ten, they continue
to poach talent. So cutting games is not going to
necessarily fix that. And so from a bigger picture perspective,
and this is where I want to get some of
your thoughts too, eight six four two four zero five
to four eight zero, because the core issue is this
(13:27):
thought that conferences need to battle for supremacy. But I
believe that is so shortsighted. And that's why I've been
talking about it for a long time that whin are
we going to have conferences? Just merge and have a
super conference. The NFL thrives because thirty two teams share
(13:48):
four hundred million dollars per franchise under one umbrella. And
that's according to Forbes. College conferences are continuing to fight
for their own separate TV deals, their own NCUBA bids,
and their own nil dollars, and it only creates a
few winners and pushes the others out, stunting the overall
(14:11):
growth of college sports. And yes, the SEC, it just
means more, continues to pump up that brand, but it
doesn't grow the sport. It doesn't elevate all of the
other teams in the other conferences. And I get that
because they're so separate right now, they're in their silos.
But don't you want to look for a bigger picture
(14:32):
and where college football, college basketball, all of it continues
to rise. And there's no trophies for the most NCAA bids.
There's just more money. There's no trophy for more NFL
draft picks. There's nothing. It's just flexing for dollars and
flexing for donors to contribute to your school within that
(14:54):
conference and to the networks themselves. So I believe that
merging makes sense because a unified super conference or tiered
system could pull TV revenue stabilize INIL. We need structure
with that. We've talked about it several times. And you
can still preserve those rivalries. Hell, we still have rivalries
(15:18):
in Major League Baseball, we still have rivalries in NFL.
And so can you imagine a forty team And I'm
just throwing out a number. Maybe it's a little bit
more than that, But when you're looking at it, even
from a basketball standpoint, a duke, a North Carolina, an Alabama,
Ohio state sharing revenue equally, throw in Clemson, throw in
(15:43):
South Carolina, throw in these teams. And then you even
look at it from a football perspective, man, can you
imagine the matchups that we would have. It only helps
the entire entity of college football, of college basketball, of
collegewards because these networks they would be clamoring to have
(16:04):
those type of marquee matchups each and every week. So
you get competitive balance, you get bigger national TV deals,
and no conference out there continuing to brag about how
great their conference is because it's nonsense, and then you
get to see some of those great matchups. And that's
(16:27):
why I know there's discussion right now. The ACC planning
to cut eighteen games might snag a few more NCAA
bids and some extra cash in the short term. But
as we've said before, some of the things we're doing
right now in college sports just a band aid. You're
just moving chairs on the Titanic. Not to say that
(16:47):
college football and college athletics is sinking, but the point
is is that you're not taking action to secure the
future of college football. College basketball, college athles make it
even better than it is because the players might get
to the field or to the court differently now versus
(17:09):
fifteen years ago, versus twenty years ago. But at the
end of the day, US fans, we still cheer, we're
still excited, we still want our team to win, and
that's something that will always be there. But if you
continue to focus on just the bragging rights of each conference,
it's a losing game. College football college basketball needs an
(17:33):
NFL style merger to share the wealth, grow the sport.
And again we'll keep watching, so I'll be interesting to
see what the ACC does. But could this be a
step forward for moving things in the direction that we
do have a bigger type of picture, a bigger type
of discussion to pull things all under one type of umbrella.
(17:58):
And I do believe that we're on that course. I
can see within the next five years we'll see a
super conference or college sports. It might stall a little bit,
We're still going to watch it, but it might not
reach the levels that it could if we see some
type of super conference because of the money chase. It
can't last just for one conference. They need everybody working together.
(18:21):
Let us know your thoughts though. We're going to take
this break eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero, and we'll continue this Tuesday edition of The
Richmond Weaver Show right after this. The Tuesday edition of
The Richmond Weaver Show, presented by Ingles Markets continues right
here on one oh four nine Fox Sports Upstate. And
(18:42):
if you haven't been out to your local Ingles, make
sure you do that and you might have to replenish
after a crazy weekend this past weekend. If you hosted
any type of NFL draft parties and you need some
groceries to replenish your stock. Make sure you check out
your local Engles and get your Ingles Advantage card because
you can save money inside the store and even at
(19:05):
the gas pump. Engles low prices. Love the savings and
as always you can join the conversation eight six four
two four zero five four eight zero let me know
your thoughts in terms of the health of college sports
and specifically college football college basketball, as CBS is reporting
that the ACC is looking at reducing the men's basketball
(19:28):
conference games from twenty down to eighteen with hopes of
potentially getting a better NCUBA tournament profile with the strength
of schedule, being able to schedule some marquee non conference games.
But at the end of the day, you just got
to go win the games that are on your schedule.
And I think it might be a little bit more
(19:48):
challenging than some of the people at the NCUBLEA realize,
especially trying to get some of these teams, and there
might be other teams like now we're not playing you.
We don't want to because we I want to have
the best conference. And that's why I still think there's
an opportunity to look into the future. Now A lot
of it will have to depend on the house settlement
(20:09):
and how that is going to be played out. But
will they look into the future and be able to
come to some type of an agreement that for the
health of everything, to boost up everybody that you have
some type of merger, because I do think right now
there is some chaos that is playing out right now,
(20:30):
especially on the college football side and even college basketball,
and I should say all of college athletics because the
house settlement nothing has been done yet, and here we
are at the end of April, but you've got football
programs that are getting ready to start summer workouts and
then you're going to before you know it, be here
(20:54):
for July into August, as teams will start having fall
camp and not knowing exactly how the roster's going to
look because the house settlement isn't official yet. So there's
some chaos that I do think is still right now
in terms of especially from a coaching perspective, because you
don't know how your roster is going to be managed
(21:16):
right now, and even from the school's perspective, So there's
something to be said about that'd be very interesting to
see how it plays out. But again, you can join
the conversation eight six' four two four zero five four eight.
ZERO i didn't want to switch gears, though and talk
a little bit MORE nfl and not diving directly back
(21:36):
Into Shador sanders and how he slid and why he,
slid whatever the reason might. Be but it did get
me thinking about The Pittsburgh. Steelers and we Know Trey,
falco who's not here today but he should be back.
Tomorrow he's a Huge Pittsburgh steelers. Fan and there's something
(21:56):
about what's going to happen With Aaron. Rodgers is he
going to be A Pittsburgh steeler or? Not and there's
also just from a perspective of How Aaron rodgers has
been over his, career and it started making me think
just quarterbacks overall in THE nfl and competition of the
(22:21):
quarterback position in THE, nfl and maybe to a certain
degree that you could look at college, also but especially
with THE nfl and With Aaron. Rodgers so the four
TIME mvp is a free, agent but it seems right
now he's playing hard to get with teams like The
steelers who have practically been begging him to, Sign AND
(22:46):
i wonder why he's dragging his. Feet and now there's
reports are that all the interests that The steelers had
That Aaron rodgers made it known that he wouldn't be
interested if they drafted a quarterback before the seventh. Round
and again it made me, think why is that so?
(23:06):
Important now we know we can go back to all
of the drama that happened When Aaron rodgers was with
The Green Bay packers and then they Draft Jordan love
and how Upset Aaron rodgers was that he didn't get
any heads up about, It he didn't get to have
any input about that, whatsoever and that ultimately would lead
(23:32):
to his displeasure with the organization and then the request
for the trade and ultimately getting trade traded to The
New York. Jets and we know how that played out
with The achilles injury and then this past season not
something That Aaron rodgers is going to write home. About
AND i think that's what's Keeping Aaron rodgers in the,
(23:53):
game so to, speak that he doesn't want to go
out like. That but, Remember Aaron rodgers was in the
same boat drafted by The Green Bay. Packers AND i
know we've talked about this several, times but he's taken his,
time AND i don't think that's necessarily a bad, thing
especially With Aaron rodgers', career but has he passed his
(24:14):
prime at forty? One AND i don't know if money
is the. Driver it doesn't seem that, way but it
does look like he's prioritizing, legacy which we do know that's,
important but also. Control and that's what got me thinking
just with this whole, thing and again going all the
(24:34):
way back to twenty, twenty when The packers Selected love
And Aaron rodgers even saying quote sincere desire to start
and finish with the same organization may not be a
reality end, quote as he was talking about The Green Bay,
Packers and so there's something to be said about. That,
(25:00):
now all of a, sudden you've Got Jordan love coming,
in and it could have been any other, quarterback but
it was the fact that they traded up to Draft
Jordan love at the twenty six pick there in twenty,
twenty and knowing that now was there going to be quarterback,
Competition and that's where my mind started. Going this quarterback
(25:27):
competition and we've talked about. It with The Cleveland, browns
five quarterbacks on their, roster as of right, now and
we'll see how that competition. Goes but isn't it interesting,
how for whatever, reason quarterbacks are treated differently than running,
backs wide, receivers or other position offensive, lineman defensive. Lineman
(25:51):
AND i, know of course there's a reason why they're
treated differently because they're so important to the success of your.
TEAM i get, That But i'm talking about when it
comes to. Competition when it comes to competition in THE
nfl at the quarterback position before the season, starts and
(26:14):
it's almost, like, hey if you have a, quarterback well
then you can't have any type of competition within your.
Organization you don't want to upset your. Quarterback you don't
want to have a situation Where Aaron rodgers is all
upset because there's another quarterback that might be the future
of your. Organization AND i just find that interesting and
(26:39):
fascinating because of the psychological side of, that not only
from the, player but from the, coaches from the. Organization
how we view. That, again there's talk, about, hey what
are The Cleveland brown's going to? Do you've got five. Quarterbacks,
well we see teams that will bring in six or
(27:00):
seven running, backs eight to ten wide receivers to, compete
and we don't blink an eye about. It but if
there's two or three quarterbacks on a roster that's, competing
that's all we talk. About AND i just think it's
interesting that we continue to do, that and especially in
(27:21):
like An Aaron rodgers type of. Situation AND i get.
It the quarterbacks are the face of the. Franchise you've got,
MASSIVE i mean massive type of, contracts fifty million per
year or more for the top quarterbacks versus say ten
million or more for top running. Backs and you even
(27:41):
look At Ashton genty with his rookie, deal it's gonna
be one of the highest paid running backs in THE
nfl and he hasn't even played a snap in THE.
Nfl SO i do get. That and so maybe there's
something about teams avoid rattling the quarterback because they want
to protect that type of invent. Meant but there's something
(28:02):
to be said that competition does make people better and
it's not necessarily a bad thing to have. Competition, now
we do, know without a shadow of a doubt that
you do need more than one. Quarterback you're going to
have to carry another, quarterback and you need a very
(28:24):
reliable backup. Quarterback because there were sixty quarterbacks that played
a snap in THE nfl last. Year there's only thirty two,
teams so we know that injuries can, happen bad play might,
happen whatever it might. Be but you're going to have
to have some quarterbacks. There but if you don't have
(28:47):
some type of competition if you don't have some type
of scenario playing out where you can have a point
within training camp that another, player especially that, quarterback can
push another quarterback or multiple, quarterbacks then you might be
missing out on some. Things because we also know that
(29:07):
just even from a perspective that when you have a,
team which typically you might carry four quarterbacks into training
camp and that's about. It training camp and that's about,
it but only the first two really get any real.
Reps and in twenty twenty, four according TO nfl Dot,
(29:29):
com seventy five percent OF nfl teams had a CLEAR
qb one by week, One AND i think that's the focal.
Point they want to, know without a shadow of a,
doubt who their quarterback is going into the beginning of
the season week, one because that, person that quarterback is
(29:51):
going to get the majority of the snaps with the
first team because they want to be prepared as, possible
AND i completely understand. THAT i just don't understand why
during training, camp why it's taboo to have quarterback, competition
especially when you have a guy that should be had
(30:14):
shoulders above anybody. Else so for Like Aaron rodgers to
be upset that you had a scenario Where Jordan love gets,
DRAFTED i just don't understand. It look At Kirk cousins
And Michael Pennix junior In. Atlanta Now Kirk cousins has
come out and initially he didn't have a whole lot
to say about. IT i don't think he was. Happy
(30:36):
he was surprised that they went With Michael Pennock junior
after he just signed with The falcons and the deal
that they. Got but it was more about The Atlanta
falcons fan base and pundits and even some of us
talking to like why would they do? That and that's
why it started making me, Think, WELL i think That
Atlanta falcons are wanting some. Competition they're wanting to see
(30:57):
exactly what they have because some of these, quarterbacks and
especially aging type of quarterbacks that have had some. Injuries
you don't know what their future is going to, be
so why wouldn't you want to have the best competition
in multiple, positions including the quarterback. Position but right now
(31:19):
that's not typically what, happens and we're seeing it play
out right now With Aaron rodgers because it does look
like he's wanted to go to a team that can
compete For Super, bowl but he wants to be able
to walk right in and handle the. REINS i don't
know if he wants to go compete. Now part of
that might be because he's played in THE nfl for
(31:39):
a long. Time he's forty one years, old and he
knows that it takes extra, effort not during the season
but in the off season to be ready to compete
against somebody. Else and Maybe Aaron rodgers he wants his
cake and eat it, Too but that's not always, possible
especially in THE. Nfl we talked about it the ltimate
(32:00):
meritocracy that you have to earn, it but sometimes the
quarterback position does seem just based on your, history you're
just continued to get the starting position handed to you
rather than. Competing And i'm not certain that it's a
bad thing if some of these quarterbacks go out there
(32:20):
and compete. Again let us know your thoughts eight six
y four two four zero five four eight, zero and
we'll take a look at some of the CRAZY nba
playoffs and Especially Draymond green and his stat. Line, oh
it is one for the. Ages much more of This
tuesday edition of The Richmond Weavers, show presented By Ingles.
(32:42):
Markets right after, this MORE nba action tonight tipping off
at six pm The Milwaukee bucks taking on The Indiana
pacers In. Indiana As indiana leads that series three games to,
(33:02):
one how about The pistons and The knicks at seven
point thirty ON tnt as that, Game that, SERIES i should,
say is also three games to one with The knicks
holding that. Advantage so can they close out the? Deal
And i've talked about it several times THAT i did
feel that The pistons would give The knicks a whole
(33:22):
lot of. Trouble but EVEN i felt that The pistons
would be able to win this. SERIES i don't know
if they're going to be able to do that, now
down three games to, one there's a four and a
half percent chance for teams to come back from a
three to one deficit IN nba playoffs IN nba, history
(33:43):
so only thirteen teams have done it out of two
hundred and eighty eight, tries so might be a tall
task for the Young pistons led By Kate cunningham And.
Jalen brunson is just continuing to showcase just what a
clutch player he is and AS i even questioned him
winning the, award not so much him winning the award
just recently as the NBA's clutch player over The Kola
(34:07):
jochits but The, joker but just the fact that it
was such a wide gap as far as how big
that gap was from the number of votes that Jayleb brunson. Got,
well he has proven me wrong because he continues to
be a clutch, player especially in the fourth. Quarter and
then at eight point thirty ON NBA, tv you have
(34:28):
The magic and The. Celtics as The celtics are up
three to one in that. Series they're looking to close
out that series also AND i do think they will
be able to do. That and then the big one
at TEN pm ON t AND t The clippers and The.
Nuggets speaking Of Kola, jokic The joker there going up
Against Kawhi leonard And James harden there at. Home the
(34:50):
series is tied to a piece and this has been
a fantastic. Series we've talked about it quite a bit
just how good the series has. Been and will be
able to do that With Jason, temp host Of hoops,
tonight as we will have him on our show tomorrow
again get smarter about THE nba, Playoffs and we did
(35:11):
HAVE nba games last, night and oh my goodness again
some of these games when you look at The cavaliers
and The. Heat, now The cavaliers win the series four,
zero a. Sweep and that's WHY i do believe that
some of these series in the first ROUND i would Be,
OKAY i shouldn't say, some if, all the first round
(35:34):
games would just be five game. Series that's what it
used to. Be AND i know you might not get
as many games in terms of the matchups like you
have with The nuggets and The, clippers because maybe that
one's going to go to seven. Games you know all of.
THAT i do understand, that but that series is too
Too so what's wrong with one more game that decides
(35:58):
it and team gets too? Advanced where these other, SERIES
i mean a four game sweep for The cavaliers over
The heat when the closing game to win the series
is one thirty eight to eighty, three fifty five point
margin of, victory which is the highest IN nba history
for closing out a. SERIES i, mean that's absolutely. Insane
(36:21):
think about. This at one time it was seventy two
to twenty eight in the. GAME i, mean that's absurd
when you look at it from that. Perspective and that's
Why i'm okay if it's a five game, SERIES i really.
Am but the genies out of the. Bottle they're not
going back to five games because that's less, revenue LESS,
(36:43):
tv and nobody wants, that especially the powers that, Be
Adam silver. Included and then we see The Golden State
warriors one oh nine to one oh six over The Houston.
Rockets there And Steph curry And Jimmy butler just continue
to showcase how good they, are especially hitting some key
shots down the, stretch And Jimmy butler fourteen points in
(37:04):
the fourth, quarter finishes with twenty seven. Points. Playoff, Jimmy jimmy.
Buckets he is back and better than ever at, times
even battling a little bit of. Injury NOW i know
there might have been a questionable call down the stretch
there if he got fouled on a three point. Shot
But Draymond green has the defensive play of the game
at the very. End but this is what's so fascinating
(37:27):
With Draymond. Green listen to this stat. Line, now this
has nothing to do with, points but it's the Most
Draymond green stat line. Ever In game, four he had
five personal, fouls one flagrant, foul one technical, foul and
then the game winning. Stop and That's Draymond green to a.
T if he's on your, team you love, him he's,
(37:50):
not you do. Not you hate. Him and that's the
polarizing effect Of Draymond. Green we've seen it time and time,
again and he continues to be to do. That as,
now The warriors are sitting, there one game away from
knocking off the number two seed in The Western. Conference All,
right we'll look at some of the latest headlines on
(38:11):
This tuesday edition Of The Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles.
Markets it's only one game, plan and that's to take
care Of benn.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Hitting the latest. Headlines it's the daily. Rundown all.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Right how about This in THE, Nfl Eli manning is
putting together a group to bid for a stake in
The New York. Giants oh, yes how appropriate That Eli
manning a businessman now and he does a great job
with his Brother Peyton Omaha. Productions we see him On
Monday Night, Football so this is right on par for
(38:49):
what The. Mannings AND i Think Eli manning is wanting
to be able to do the business side of. Things
and we know he played his ENTIRE nfl career with The,
giants leading them to Two Super bowls WITHIN vp performances
in both. Games remember his, Dad Archie, manning he was
the one who intervened in The chargers Selecting Eli manning
(39:11):
and said, no he's not playing For San diego and
ultimately got that traded to The New York. Giants and
look how history played. Out so we'll see what happens
With Shador. Sanders and speaking Of Shador, sanders how about.
This The Canadian Football league, team The Toronto, argonauts have
Added Shador sanders to their negotiation. List so if he
(39:33):
doesn't make The browns, roster or If Shadoor sanders decides
to play in THE, Cfl toronto will have exclusive rights
to sign. HIM i think it's a very, smart proactive
move On toronto's. Parts you never know what might, happen
and we didn't get to talk about this, yesterday BUT
i do want to bring this. Up Down, staley head
(39:56):
coach of The gamecocks women's basketball, team will have a
statue unveiled tomorrow at four. Pm The city Of columbia
and partnership with These statues For equality And Generous community
partners is unveiling the Statue, wednesday four pm at the
intersection Of Senate state Of Senate street In Lincoln, street
(40:20):
located right next to The university Of South Carolina Alumni.
Center that's a huge. Honor AND i Know Asia wilson
has a, statue AND i was surprised that a player
got a statue Before Don, Staley but either, way both
significant to game called women's basketball and a big deal
right there For Don, staley AND i think that is absolutely.
(40:43):
Fantastic and then we also saw the news That George
kittles is going to be the highest paid tight end
in THE nfl as The San francisco forty Nine ers
sign him to a four, year seventy six point four
million dollar contract extension that includes forty million dollars. Guaranteed
(41:06):
and that's according To Adam, Schefter and If schefty's putting
it out, there you know it's. Legit all. Right that's
some of the latest, headlines and we will continue This
tuesday edition of The Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles
markets right after this eight six four triple seven ninety
five ninety. Three that is the text line here to
(41:29):
The Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles. Markets right here
at one oh four Nine Fox Sports upstate again that
text line eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety,
Three and we do have A texter eighty six ninety
four chiming in, saying all The browns be geniuses by
having tradable assets at, quarterback Both sanders And. Gabriel deal
(41:53):
In gabriel that is could while during training camp and
then they will have campaign problem or champagne, PROBLEMS i should.
Say and it would also make it easier to get
rid Of Deshaun. Watson that will be. Interesting oh, sorry
are The? Browns? Says The texter would go on to,
say so maybe there is something to be said, About,
(42:13):
yes can you have that type of competition in your quarterback?
Room that could lead to tradable assets and being able
to secure positions to help fill some other voids on your,
team because we do know personnel in THE nfl they
want a quarterback and so that fomo fear of missing
(42:36):
out could play into those type of. Scenarios so it'll
be interesting to see again how that competition might actually.
Help and The browns might be onto. Something but we've
seen The. Browns they have made questionable decisions so many
times throughout the course of their. Ownership So i'm not
certain that all of a sudden they're going to turn
(42:58):
around just in one but it will be interesting to.
See it Is april to twenty, Ninth so let's walk
back in a little bit of.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
History what happened on this. Day let's go back in
history to the moments you might have forgotten and the
ones you'll never. Forget IT'S otd on this, day all.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
Right So i'm probably going to be dating myself or
even some of the listeners out, There but nineteen sixty
one was the debut of ABC's Wide world Of, sports
and that Was APPOINTMENT. Tv you did not want to miss,
That AND i absolutely remember growing up watching that show
and it was fantastic because just the events that you,
(43:43):
saw and it was all all sports and the agony
of defeat or the thrill of victory and the agony of.
DEFEAT i know a lot of people can recite that
from memory because we heard that so much. Again nineteen
sixty one nineteen, eighty The Detroit lions would Select oklahoma
running Back Billy simms with the number one overall. Pick
(44:05):
and in nineteen eighty, one how about this local, Product George,
Rogers South Carolina Heisman trophy Winning George rogers would be
the very first overall pick by The New Orleans saints
in the nineteen eighty ONE nfl. Draft and in nineteen eighty,
Six Roger clemens would set In Major League baseball record
(44:25):
by striking out twenty batters as The Red sox would
beat The Seattle Manors mariners three to one in that.
Game and in nineteen eighty, six here's another trivia. Quarria
auburn running Back Bo jackson was the number one overall.
Pick but where did he go as the number one overall?
Pick or who picked? HIM i should say The Tampa Bay.
(44:47):
Buccaneers ooh. Interesting and in two thousand and, six how
about this number one overall. Pick North Carolina state defensive
End Mario williams was the number one overall pick to
The Houston. Texans, again things have changed now defensive, line
especially edge. Rush you can see that type of scenario
(45:08):
playing out where those teams they will definitely use a
number one overall, pick especially for an edge rusher and
somebody like at the Time Mario, williams because he was
definitely a guy that people wanted to have on his,
team on their, TEAM i should. Say and in twenty,
ten THE Ncaa board Of directors would approve a sixty
(45:29):
eight team format for the men's Basketball tournament beginning the following,
season and it was the first expansion since two thousand
and one when the tournament went from sixty four to
sixty five. Teams because if you, remember, yes there was
a time period where you had the first game and
it was to get into the top sixty. Four so.
(45:52):
Interesting that IS Otd and that is This tuesday Editionnother
Richmond Weaver show presented By Ingles. Markets we'll talk to
you tomorrow
