(00:43):
And once you do that, just make sure you search
one o four nine Fox Sports so you can find
the station listen whatever and wherever you want to. And
I was actually talking to a friend today and reminding him, Hey,
just go get the app. It's so easy. He was asking, now,
remind me when you show is and you know how
it can listen. He doesn't live here in Greenville. And

(01:06):
it almost sounded like I was doing the promo there
on the phone. It's like, Tim, it's so easy, it's easy.
Just go do that, and I promise you, and then
you can listen again whenever and wherever you want to,
because obviously we're live from three to four, but if
you can't catch the show live, we welcome you to
go listen to the podcast version. That's what we love

(01:27):
about the Alheart Radio app. And also you can find
all of your other podcasts that might be one of
your favorites. You can find it there and just put
it in there as a preset button, so it's easy peasy,
you don't have to worry about it. As you also
heard mister Trey Falco behind the board and behind the
mic as always, and he's the guy who helps make

(01:48):
it all happen that it can be there in the
podcast version in the podcast form, so we obviously appreciate
mister Falco and everything that he's able to do. And
knowing that obviously this is a busy show today because
we do have masters to talk about, right yeah, but
we also have NBA action to talk about. With the craziness.

(02:10):
Not only did we see with Denver firing their head
coach Michael Malone and then deciding not to bring back
the general manager, Calvin Booth, and there's a lot of
intrigue going into the relationship there between Michael Malone and
Calvin Booth, and then also did Denver just to decide
to say, oh the hell with it, We're just going

(02:31):
to pull the plug on this season, even though we're
only days away from the end of the regular season,
and how that might play out for Denver and the
opportunity now. I know Denver's been reeling right now. They
haven't been playing well at all. They haven't been playing
defense in retrospect to relative what they have previously and

(02:52):
especially the past couple of years. We know obviously on
their championship run, they were a much better infensive team.
So I can't wait for the second segment. Jason temp
host of Hoops Tonight, who joins us each and every Wednesday.
He'll be with us to break it all down. And
also seeing Luca Doncic get ejected last night in the

(03:17):
game against OKC And obviously this was an impactful game
because there was still an outside shot that the Lakers could,
of all things, move up to the number two seed
in the West. And I think there is something to
be said, And we talked about it rest versus russ
Oh yeah, and staying in rhythm versus getting some rest

(03:37):
and I think there is something to be said that, hey,
if you can climb up the standings, do whatever you can,
especially if you're not going to be playing in the
play in tournament portion, because you already have a built
in five day rest period Monday through Friday next week
because the other teams are playing in the plan to
actually get into the postseason officially. So I thought that

(04:02):
was a big game for the Lakers, and then obviously
with Luca getting ejected as he was talking to a
fan rather than the ref and trash talking with the fan,
and so I'm anxious to talk to Jason Tiempf about
that and just how that obviously impacted the game as
Okac goes on to blow out the Lakers, But does

(04:24):
that have a lingering effect for the Lakers as they
get closer and closer to the end of the season.
And obviously, the NBA regular season ends on Sunday, so
we are getting ready to close the book on another
regular season. We already did with college basketball, and we're
getting ready to do that with the NBA at least
in the regular season and then into the postseason. And

(04:45):
so I'm looking forward to talking to Jason about that.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, It's funny that we tend to talk a lot
about load management and everything when it comes to the
basketball season NBA and how long this season is. But honestly,
now that we're here and I get that, you know,
the playoff season is a little bit longer, so it's extended.
But it almost feels like we just started talking about
NBA and started that. It feels like the season just
started and now we're already here. So all this talk about, man,

(05:09):
they play so many games, and there's there's eighty two
games and this and that, and it's already done.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Well because now the focus is back on the NBA
if you're a basketball person, and I think that's what
happens during the fall when the NBA does start. Remember that,
right right, It does start in October, so obviously the
focus is not on the NBA, right right, polishing football.
And then NFL is kicking in obviously, so you have that,

(05:35):
and then ultimately college basketball starts, and so there is
something to be said that now after the Super Bowl
and the trade deadline in the NBA, the stakes get higher.
Oh yeah, Oh, narratives change a little bit. And then
when you also have certain scenarios playing out where you
have Memphis firing their head coach Taylor Jenkins. Yeah, a

(05:55):
few weeks before the end of the regular season, and
then obviously Michael Malone being let go with Denver and
it's still a Luca Lebron. How is that going to work?
And are we going to see a little bit of
magic left from Steph Curry and the Warriors? And so
I think we get to this point and then all
of a sudden things are magnified again where for a

(06:17):
period of time they weren't. And then we also look
at the calendar and we're like, well, hell, it's April, right,
we got the Masters here, what do we do? We've
got all things going on, all right. But something that
that did want to just briefly talk about because I
have talked about this before, but it just came back
to the top of my mind based on Florida winning

(06:40):
the National championship and all this talk about how the
transfer portal and NIL is hurting college athletics. But just
knowing that I know we're getting the teams there to
the end of the season in a different manner, or
we're getting them to the court or to the field
in a different manner. Because it's not the same version

(07:02):
that we had years ago. Obviously before the transfer portal
was a thing. Obviously before players could earn money off
of their name, image and likeness. And I think that's
something that the fans are starting to miss now. The
fans seem to be wanting to have this narrative that, oh,

(07:22):
it's just not the same. You know, the how the
teams are constructed, you can't develop loyalty with certain players,
you can't look forward to certain players coming back and
being able to help your team the next season. Well,
we just heard the news at the top of the hour,
JT toppin, Yeah, Texas Tech is deciding to come back

(07:44):
to Texas Tech. Now, this was a transfer from New Mexico,
had a fantastic year at New Mexico, then transferred to
Texas Tech, an even better year at Texas Tech, and
they were oh so close to reaching a Final four
there with Texas Tech. But he's coming back with the
narrative of he's going to get roughly four million dollars

(08:06):
to come back. Now, this is an NBA guy, first
round type of grade guy where he could probably earn
two two and a half million dollars. Yeah, they're based
on where he's selected. So that's a significant difference. And
so from a fans perspective, you're like, Okay, he's coming back, right,
that's that's a good thing. But this is what I

(08:29):
have heard that it seems that fans, and maybe I'm
reaching a little bit, but it seems like fans are saying, hey,
our voice is not being heard. We're being ignored because
we don't want it this way. We don't want this unregulated,
free agency. And you know, all this money that's being paid.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
There's no loyalty. There's no loyalty about the money all
of that. Where's the tradition?

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's another big one. You know, I
hear that all the time. This isn't what college sports
used to be. You know, I don't enjoy it as
much anymore. But I think here's the twist. I think ultimately,
fans are being more heard than ever before. I think
it's loud and clear that they're being heard because the

(09:15):
one thing that fans consistently demand year after year, decade
after decade, I don't care if it was just yesterday
or twenty five years ago, it's the same. They want
to win. Yes, they want championships. They want results, and
guess what the pressure is driving everything to deliver that.

(09:40):
So fans, you are being heard. And now, obviously because
of legal actions, things have opened up where a lot
of people will say this is Pandora's box, and I
do understand that, but just remember, I know fans. They
want the best players out on the field, out on
the court. They wanted it then, they want it now.

(10:01):
So if you have that five star player that's out there,
and especially we can look at the quarterback. Oh yeah,
if that five star quarterback, if he's not performing, he's
a bomb, get him out of here. We've got another
guy on the bench, he can be better than that.
Get him out of here. He's no good. If a
coach goes seven and five, get him out of here,

(10:23):
get him fired. We don't want that. It's the demand,
the win at all costs type of culture that fans
this is what you wanted. You want winning, You want championships.
So fans tell me, do you want winning in championships
or do you want those players who we call student

(10:46):
athletes to be able to be a student and just
happened to be an athlete at the same time. So
they can get their degree. Which do you want. I
haven't heard a whole lot of people yelling, hey, go
get that degree, go get that degree. No, yeah, no,
I haven't heard that one either. It's go get us

(11:06):
a championship. Right, Why aren't you playing better? You're a
bum if you're not out there excelling. We want the
best quarterback, we want the best point guard, we want
the fastest receivers, we want the most elite edge rushers
out there. And now we're these schools doing they're trying
to deliver that. They're trying to do the deals, whatever

(11:30):
it takes to satisfy the fan base, who is turning
this cog, who is wagging the dog, because they want
winning at all costs. And that's where you have to
be careful what you're asking for. So fans just remember,

(11:51):
I think you have been heard because these schools, these players. Again,
you can't blame these players right when they're just seeing
these deals. Hey, they want to take advantage as best
as they can. Also, and if these collectives, if these
boosters at these schools, they're putting these type of deals

(12:13):
in front of them, why wouldn't they accept Now, part
of it is coming from because the schools put that
together because the fans ultimately want the championships, right and well,
in the.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Irony of all of this is it's it becomes we
want to win, we want the championships, but we don't
want our players to leave, like we don't want them
to leave.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
And they failed to realize that.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
You've got fans across the country at different schools that
are screaming the same thing, we want to win, and
those schools listen, and that's where you get these deals
in these crazy things, or you get the transfer portal
and they come to these players and they're like, hey,
look you can start for us. Look I get that
you may not be starting there, but hey, come start
for us. Or you know you're not getting as much
production as you want, you can get that production and

(12:59):
will pay you. That's the same thing. You've got same
fans over there. They're having to those schools are having
to deal with that same pressure. And just think about
the players too. When you start going, oh, well, oh,
he's just not playing, well, do you think a player
wants to stay and hear that, or does he want
to go somewhere else and try somewhere else and maybe
get a shot and maybe the plant.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
The fans appreciate him well for a period of time,
the grass does seem greener because they'll roll out the
red carpet before ye. Yes, until you're not performing right.
Then they'll rip that carpet right out from under you.
And that's why the fans have to be careful what
you wish for, because the product you're watching right now
is exactly what decades of fan pressure helped create. Yep, Hey,

(13:42):
you want that tradition, you want development, you want a
player that's sticking around three or four years. The entire
mindset has to change all the way from the top,
from the ad to the collectives, to the fans, all
of that. But I can promise you these fans would
not be happy with seven and five in football every
single year. You're right, they will not. Even if they

(14:02):
get those players that are staying three, four years and beyond,
they're not going to be happy with it, that's for certain.
All right. When we come back, mister Jason Temp, host
of Hoops Tonight, joins us as we take a look
at some of the latest NBA The standings are getting
oh so tight as we end this NBA season, much

(14:25):
more right after this live from the Ingles Studio in
downtown Greenville, right here on North Main Street. This is
the Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by
our good friends at Ingles Markets, and it is a
beautiful day here in the of State. I'm all about
this temperature, mister Falco. I am good to go with

(14:46):
this type of weather. Oh yeah, I'd agree with that.
We had some rain that washed away some of the
pollens so afray that will stay away. And obviously we've
got the Masters this week, par three core of the
part tournament, I should say, let me get that out correctly.
Is going on right now, and we're going to talk
about the Masters after this NBA segment. But that we

(15:08):
do know that if you're playing in the Masters, you
do not want to win the par three portion of
the tournament. Yes, because the jinx is there, you win
that you are not going to come away with the
green jacket on Sunday. But we do need to talk
some NBA. We had some crazy stuff going on, and

(15:28):
I'm excited to bring in our weekly NBA insider and analyst,
mister Jason temp of Hoops Tonight, joining us each and
every Wednesday and Jason. This is what I love that
we will text as we get ready for the segment
each Wednesday about some of the topics we want to
talk about. And I was getting ready to text you
yesterday and then the news dropped and everything was just

(15:52):
blown out of out of the water there, and I
texted you, what the what? And maybe it wasn't what
the what, but I said, Mike Malone, talk to us
and tell us about this bombshell out of Denver, Jason,
and what in the world is going on with the
Nuggets firing. Michael Malone and Calvin Booth.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Well, first of all, as you guys are talking about
weather shifts, it's going to be ninety four degrees today
and Tucson, so that's what I'm dealing with. But we're heading,
We're heading. Tucson has unbelievable weather for about six months
of the year, but in the other six it can
get pretty it can get pretty brutal. The Denver Nuggets
firing was one of the more shocking coach firings that

(16:33):
I can remember, because this was a firing that a
lot of people saw in the works for a variety
of reasons. There was a disconnect between Calvin Booth, the
GM of the Nuggets, and and Mike Malone specifically regarding
the rotation and how players are being used. And I think,
I think that I take Mike Malone's side of it personally,

(16:55):
but the discrepancy was Alvin Booth made a decision that
I think is historically a poor decision, which is, hey,
we're going to bet on these young guys becoming useful
basketball players. The Julian Strawther and the Jalen Pickets, the
Peyton Watson's that did that sort of thing. Now, everything
about NBA history tells us that if you're serious about

(17:16):
contending for a championship, you can occasionally find guys like
a Christian Brown, an older you know, kind of like
NBA ready role player prospect. The part guys in their
early twenties don't help teams win championships, right, And Mike
Mike Malone knew that, and so he kept prioritizing guys
like Russell Westbrook in the rotation veteran players over some

(17:39):
of these younger players, and it was causing a disconnect
between him and Calvin Booth. Getting all the way back
to last season, that was an issue now again as
we mentioned it was mostly Calvin Booth's fault, but there
was a side effect. As the team was struggling, they
started to lose belief. And here's the thing that you'll

(18:00):
see with veteran teams in the NBA, very similarly with
Frank Vogel with the Sons and the Lakers, where when
you're a coach that is a disciplinarian, like a coach
that's going to be hard on his players, and they're
older veterans, they had better believe that they're going to win. Yes,

(18:21):
Frank Vogel was the perfect coach for the Lakers when
it was casep and Kyle Kuzma and Alex Caruso and
they were legitimately a top tier championship contender. All of
a sudden, you get Russ in the picture. They become
pretty readily aware of the fact that they're not a
good team anymore, and they all stop listening to Frank Vogel.
And that's similarly what happened with Mike Malone here is
they needed to make a change just to get a

(18:42):
different voice. I've also heard some things that they've been
very high on David Adelman and looked at him as
a guy that would probably get coached this summer, and
so I think that that was another part of it too,
is I think he's the guy they're going to want
to keep, so they felt like they could just get
him now rather than lose him in the summer and
have to fire Mike Malone. So I think that was

(19:03):
part of the timing. It just comes off as super clunky,
and it's not good in terms of optics to do
it this close to the postseason.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Yes, and I think that's the right word right there, Jason, clunky.
And that's why it felt so awkward and felt so
out of the blue, because, yes, there had been the
reports that you talked about that Michael Malone and Calvin Booth,
the general manager, did not see eye to eye, and
even to the point where could you look at Jamal

(19:32):
Murray and his injury, Is it based on Michael Malone
and his rotation and not resting guys appropriately? You know,
all those things that could be discussed, But it just
seems from a perspective of now, how it happened right
here at the end of the regular season. So from
your standpoint, this is a team that just won the

(19:52):
title two years ago and now they're in this chaos.
I mean, is this some type of hail Mary that
they think that this can help them maybe win a
game in a series, because I think it almost is
going to have the opposite effect that they might not
even win a series in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
Now, I think that there's like a five percent element
of this decision making process that's like, oh, maybe if
we get a different voice at the head, maybe it'll
galvanize these guys and they'll get something going. But I
think internally, if you ask them, they don't believe they're

(20:28):
gonna win. Yeah. Their defense is so so so far
away from what it actually needs to be to win
multiple playoff rounds. And there's just no example in NBA
history of a team being this bad at defense and
this close to the postseason and being able to sharpen
it up in time. In addition to the personnel related weaknesses,

(20:49):
I think they really miss KCP because he was their
best ball pressure guy. And as good as Christian Brown is,
he's just not specifically good at ball pressure and that's
been what's allowed these teams to get so comfort and
pick and roll against them as they come off the
screen and Loo and Yo Kitch is waiting there. They're
putting two on the ball. But in the old days
that U see be KCT was hounding that guy and
so just made them a little more uncomfortable at the

(21:11):
point of attack, which allowed them to rotate more easily
in the back end. But it's a death sentence because
they're a week at the point of attack of attack. Yo,
kitch is bad at the level and they're bad on
the weak side rotating, so they're just not even close
to where they need to be Defensively. I think they're
going to lose in the first or second round, almost assuredly.
And I think that this was a move more. I
think the timing was mainly geared towards securing David Adelman

(21:34):
before you got coached by someone else.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah, and there is something to be said about trying
to be proactive in some of these certain situations, especially
I think they already knew what was going to happen
in the post, you know, after the season was over,
so they were going to make this move regardless of
what happened, and so maybe they are trying to have
a preemptive move here. He is a Jason Temp host

(21:58):
of Hoops tonight. Make sure you check out all of
his fantastic work, subscribed to his YouTube channel, and you
can also listen to the audio version through whatever podcast
platform you like to use, and I'm telling you, I
suggest the iHeartRadio app, so you can download that through
the app store or on Google Play, but definitely make
sure you subscribe to Hoops tonight, all right, Jason, As

(22:21):
much as the Michael Malone and how that was a
bombshell even last night, we were excited the Lakers going
up against Okac and could we see another performance by
the Lakers, how they were able to take care business
against Okac and could that be foreshadowing something in the playoffs?
And we had a fantastic game going until Luca and

(22:45):
the trash talking and he gets ejected. Your thoughts on
how that played out and will that have a lingering
effect for the Lakers?

Speaker 4 (22:56):
You know, it was a very important game and I
thought the Lakers were going to win it. They had
all the momentum and Lebron and Luca just looked so
comfortable in this matchup against Okayc's smalls. It's the main
reason why I've always viewed the Lakers as a good
matchup for the Thunder as a team that the that
the Thunder as an opponent that the Lakers feel very

(23:16):
comfortable against. They're just they're too small on the perimeter
to deal with Lebron and Luca, and they can just
have a lot of success there. But they needed to
win that game because they needed to go two and
two over their last four to secure the three seed,
and they had this back to back tonight in Dallas,
And so the way I was looking at it was like,

(23:36):
you get that win, you can hunt one of these
two games against Houston or Dallas, or maybe you win
one of those games, and then you sit everybody the
rest of the season. They could have just bought themselves
a lot more time off, and so it's just kind
of unfortunate in terms of the standings that I did
think it was a very interesting two game set. I
thought that the I thought we saw the best of

(23:57):
both games in this matchup. I thought the first or
the first half I should say, yesterday showed us what
it will look like when the Thunder played well in
this matchup, which is forcing a lot of turnovers getting
out in transition. They had twenty points off of turnovers,
just in that first half, they scored eighty points. That
a million points in the paint as the Lakers point
of attack defense fell apart and they were able to

(24:19):
score a bunch. That's what it will look like if
these two teams facing the series. That's what it will
look like when OKSE plays well. But then we also
saw stretches where the Lakers played well, and I thought, honestly,
the most translatable version of it was what happened in
the second half last night. So in the first half,
you can point to shot making, or in the first game,
excuse me, you can point to shot making, right, Like,

(24:40):
the Lakers shot insanely well. They got over one point
five points per jump shot in that first game. Some
of that is completely unrealistic and unsustainable, right, But the
second half of the second game settled into what you
would expect a playoff game to look like. Both teams
were hit, being a lower percentage of they're catch and

(25:01):
shoot jump shots. It grinded into this like slow matchup,
attacking game in the half court, and for sixteen minutes
stretching from the start of the second half all the
way to Luca's ejection, the Lakers held the thunder to
just twenty seven points while while scoring thirty six of
their own, they looked more comfortable. Luca had attacked Artenstein

(25:24):
on a switch and got another bucket to put the
Lakers up, and then he gets ejected, and I thought
that was I thought that second half stretch there was
a good example of some sustainability in terms of the
Lakers' ability to make the Thunder uncomfortable, and that ultimately
was the biggest takeaway I had from that two game set.
Just looking at that data, the Lakers were more frequently

(25:46):
able to make Okac's offense uncomfortable than vice versa, in
the Thunder able to make the Lakers uncomfortable, and I
think that bowes well for them in a matchup. I
think the Thunder should still feel good about their chances
in that series. I still have it roughly a coin flip.
But with how dominant the Thunder have been this year
for the Lakers to have a coin flip chance, in
my opinion, to beat them, I think that that's a

(26:07):
strong position for them to be in.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Yeah, and so, but in even looking at the specific
play there with Luca, is there some type of scenario
playing out where and I'm trying to think of from
a perspective, do the Lakers do they start becoming the
villain of the NBA because they've got Luca and Lebron

(26:31):
and Luca trash talking and obviously I mean with the
fan there, but it seemed the rest were taking exception
to and even more so just Luca and some of
his antics. Is there anything to that?

Speaker 4 (26:45):
There? Absolutely is. I mean, I think I think there's
two elements to the situation with the ref last night.
I think that jt Orn needs to not be so sensitive, yes,
and he needs to and he needs to understand that
we're all watching a really important basketball game and if
you're going to eject a player like Mark Dagenel after
the game made a comment about how he was like
like he basically praised the official for like holding the line,

(27:08):
so to speak, and he kind of made this point
about how, like, you know, at a certain point, you
have to establish what you're gonna be okay with and
what you're not okay with, and then you have to
stick to that line. And I don't disagree with him.
I think he's right in principle. If Luca had run
over to him after that play and gotten in his
face and started pointing at him and unleashing a bunch
of explatives. He should be ejective because if you because

(27:30):
if you don't do that, then the decorum of the
game suffers. And I agree with Mark Degenel in that point. However,
if you're going to eject a guy in that situation,
you better be really really sure that he did something
deeply disrespectful or something along those lines. And it would
seemed pretty clear from the video that Luca was obviously
trash talking the fan. And as far as the fans go, like,

(27:52):
I'm not a big trash talking guy, I personally think
it's tacky, but there's it's just been such a huge
part of basketball culture over the years, and there are
so many guys that do it. Luca is not the
only one now as far as Luca goes, Luca is
different beyond the trash talking piece in the way he
treats the refs. Like there are a lot of NBA

(28:13):
players that will go back and forth with fans sitting
court sides. That's whatever. Luca will bret refs over and
over and over again. While towing the line of the
technical Draymond is more aggressive and like Draymond will like
do stuff where I'm like, oh my gosh, I can't
believe this guy hasn't been teed up already. But Luca
is good at towing the line. Like he'll talk trash,
but he'll disengage, and then he'll talk trash and he'll

(28:35):
disengage and it wears on guys. And one of the
things that happened last night, jt Orr was going to
the other Lakers players and he was saying, no one
talked to me, or anyone can talk to me about Luca,
like he didn't want to talk to Luca because Luca
did a very poor job of managing his dynamic with
the officials in that game. And so even though we
can agree that Jtor made a big mistake last night

(28:57):
and honestly ruined a great basketball game, we can also
agree that Luca just needs to grow up and really
work on the way that he manages his dynamic with
officials over the course of games. Because here's the thing.
Luca is high risk for rejection, yes, is because of
his behavior, and so at a certain point, if you
can't control jt Orr and him getting emotional, you can

(29:20):
control Luka Doncic in the way that you add Luka Doncic,
you can control your own behavior and manage that relationship better.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Yeah, and I think there's something to be said, you know,
with obviously Luca doing a better job and how impactful
that can be if he is ejected knowing and maybe
this is a little bit of a wake up call.
I don't know how much for Luca because of his personality,
but the rest have to understand it. They are not
the show. It's the players out there with the NBA

(29:52):
that to have that you know, Jerry West logo on
their jersey. It's those guys that the fans are coming
to see. And again, if you're okayc fan, he's he's
being applauded right now for getting Luca ejected there, and unfortunately,
I think that just feeds more fuel to more guys
wanting to talk trash with some of these players. So

(30:13):
it will be interesting to see how that plays out
as we're.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
Really really quickly. Ye. I think it's fascinating because I
think there's an obvious to korm piece to college hoops,
where like I totally understand res having a really short lead, yes,
with technicals and decorum and all that kind of stuff
in a college game, but you have to acknowledge that
the NBA is an entertainment product. That is, it's very different.

(30:37):
It's very different.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
But we hear Jason all the time just in terms
of the load management and why that's you know, somewhat
of an issue because fans are paying good money to
come see players play and they don't want fans ejected
or not playing for something that in all retrospect is
pretty trivial. And the ref it was clear that he

(30:59):
was talking trash to the fan there, and so I
know that was frustrating for Laker fans obviously as they
suffer that loss, and it will be interesting to see
how it plays out. As we're wrapping up with Jason Temp,
host of Hoops Tonight, make sure you check out all
of his great work. All right, Jason, we've only got
a handful of days before the end of the NBA

(31:20):
regular season and obviously just a small number of games left.
Your thoughts as we're winding down this season and just
the kind of big picture where we stand right now.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Yeah, So I think I'm also a contenders lists for
your show next week, Yes, because we have the playing
tournament that we'll have more established stuff with the seeding.
But the thing that I'm going to be keeping an
eye on over the course of the rest this week
is Western Conference seating. There is so much potential for
so many different teams to end up in so many

(31:55):
different spots, and matchups are everything. Yes. For instance, like
as we saw, Houston is a physical mismatch for Golden
State they in the Sunday game. Right, there is a
potential there if Golden State catches a bad matchup to
get upset early, even though I think they're probably the
third best team in the West. Right the Lakers matchup

(32:16):
poorly with Golden State. That's a team that I would
want to because they can't guard Steph Curry. They don't
have the personnel to handle Steph Curry. So like there
is a potential weakness there if they were to catch
someone in the first round. Denver could get upset in
the first round. If they catch a Minnesota, I think
Minnesota would be capable of upsetting Oklahoma City because of
their Rimp protection in the Anthony Edwards problem. There's all

(32:39):
of this interesting matchup potential in the first round, and
there's just so many like must win games for all
of these teams over the course of this week as
they try to control their destiny a little bit, and
it's just gonna be really fun to watch it all
shake out. And we could be headed for what I
as long as as long as like Sacramento doesn't leak
in or like Dallas, we could be. We could be.

(33:02):
We could be sitting with the most entertaining first round
matchup set for the Western Conference in the history of
the league.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
That's right, well, we know right now as of the
standings and the possible seeds for the postseason in the
Western Conference three through eight. I mean, you've got six
different teams that could finish in the seeding three through eight.
So who the hell knows, Jason, I mean, we're exactly Yeah,
it's going to be crazy, but we will break it
all down next Wednesday and looking forward to you giving

(33:33):
us your thoughts on the true contenders as the play
in Tournament will be going on next week as we
get closer and closer to the official beginning of postseason
in NBA. Jason, we can't thank you enough and look
forward to talking to you next Wednesday, sir.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
Thanks rich Vin, see you next week, Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
That is Jason Temp, host of Hoops Tonight. Make sure
you check out all of his great work again Hoops Tonight,
his YouTube channel, subscribe rate review it all of that. Oh,
you can also listen to the audio version through any
podcasting platform that you like. And again, if you haven't
tried the iHeartRadio app, you definitely need to do that.

(34:11):
All Right, we come back. It is Masters Week. Yes,
we will start giving you some thoughts of our picks
for Masters Champion that we'll put on a green jacket
this year, much more of the Richmond Weaver Show presented
by Ingles Markets. Right after this June two through June eighth.

(34:34):
Get ready Upstate. The BMW Charity pro Am presented by
td cent X is coming back for another year of
exciting golf and more. I don't know if you've been
to the tournament or not, but I promise you if
you haven't, you are missing now. It's not your average
golf tournament. It is part of the corn Ferry Tour
yet we do know that. But what makes it special

(34:56):
is that you have the pro golfers who are out there.
These guys are out there trying to earn a living.
We're trying to make money. They're trying to get their
PGA tours. The job, it is their job, but you
get to intermingle with them if you get to play,
because you'll also have an amateur opportunity. You'll see celebrities
out there playing with them. So it's a unique setup
from that perspective with all of the money that they're

(35:19):
raising to help some incredible local charities, part of South
Carolina charities right here. And what is great is that
you'll see some of these familiar faces from obviously sports, TV,
maybe film movies, whatever it is. And some of these
people that you see on the big screen or on
TV and stuff, they've got some nice wings. They can

(35:42):
actually play. Oh yeah, they definitely do it, and it's
one of those things, especially like professional athletes. I've talked
to David Wells, who has played in it before and
he actually won the celebrity portion the heat that he
was in. And obviously this is a all star pitcher World
Series pitcher threw a no hitter in Major League Baseball,

(36:05):
which that's obviously very difficult to do anyway, And he's
talked about, man, I'd love to be a pro golfer,
you know. So it's one of those things that a
lot of times these athletes they want to be a
pro golfer because it's the ultimate we talked about it.
You got to beat the course, you got to beat yourself,
all of those things that go into it, and how

(36:27):
addictive golf can be once you can figure out, once
you start playing a little bit better, you know, and
you can you can hit some of those shots. It
does get you back out there. But I do love
that opportunity of seeing some people that you normally wouldn't
see that on a golf course because you just see
them on TV or you see them in a different
setting than obviously on a golf course.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Right well, and even from like the celebrity perspective, they're accessible,
more accessible than film in the sense that like you're standing,
you know, you're two hundred feet away from them, whereas
you're not just seeing them on screen, you're you still
get to it's kind of.

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Cool autographs, all of that, and they're very receptive to that.
But again, the BMW Charity pro Am presented by tdcin X,
is coming back again the week of June second through
the eighth. It's happening at Thorn Blade Club and the
Carolina Country Club. They're in Spartanburg. You can grab your
tickets still right now. Just go to BMW Charitygolf dot

(37:22):
Com again, that's BMW Charitygolf dot Com to get tickets
and you can even volunteer. There's so many things that
you can get involved with. And they're getting ready to
announce some of the other activities of their events during
the week with the concerts that are going on. Yeah,
so it's going to be a jam packed week of concerts, golf,
and just fun entertainment right here in the Upstate. It's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
Even if you don't like golf, there's so much more,
so much more excuse not to go there.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
There is so much more, and I am excited to
announce it. If you heard. We had Michael McGovern last week,
who's the tournament director of the BMW Charity Pro Am
presented by td cent X. He was in studio with
us and talking about everything that goes into the tournament
and you know, all of the charitable side of the

(38:11):
tournament and the monies that are raised from that perspective,
and him and I had been talking about we want
to do a golf segment that's more dedicated, you know,
each week to talk about golf, the big picture, golf,
local golf, you know, all of those type of things.
So I'm excited that we're starting this week on Friday. Yes,
it'll be our first segment of Inside the Rogues Golf Club. Yes,

(38:36):
there you go. I like that, brought to you by
the BMW charity program presented by td Sinex. So I'm
excited that we'll be doing that, and we're bringing in
some names. I'm working on all types of guests to
come in. But sometimes it'll be just we'll be talking
about what's happening in the world of golf, and there's
still a lot going on right now. We don't know

(38:56):
what the hell is happening with golf and live. I
feel like it's been like is there going to be
a major or not? Yeah, obviously, I mean it's insane
that we're at this point, and I think fans do
want to see the best of the best all together, right, Yes,
let's have it that way, and there's got to be
a way that it can be worked out. That's why
we love the majors, because you get to see the

(39:16):
best of the best all competing against each other and
competing against the course as well, So make sure you
check that out this Friday. Inside the Ropes. It's going
to be some great golf talk as you're listening to
the Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by
Ingles Markets right here on one O four nine Fox
Sports Upstate. Let's take a look at some of the

(39:37):
latest headlines. All right, So, speaking of golf, it is
Master's Week, and so a programming note, we're going to
be off Tomorrow's but we'll be back on Friday. So
I did least want to go ahead and start talking
about some guys that we think can win the Masters.

(40:02):
I mean it's easy. I mean, I know the Part
three tournament's going on right now, and you want to
avoid winning that. That's for a certain as we saw
actually Keegan Bradley have a hole in one earlier today, yep,
so that was exciting to see. But it's it's the
usual suspects here. Oh well yeah, I mean it's a
Scottie Scheffler, right, it's a genre Bryson d schambeau Ken,

(40:28):
Rory can he finally do it? I mean there's so
much pressure on Rory to be able to win not
only another major, but to win at the Masters right
where he hasn't been able to do that yet. Can
he break through? That's the big question because this is

(40:49):
not just about his swing. It's not about that. Oh yeah,
we know he's got that's it's his mind and how
important that's going to be for Rory to be able
to do that. But the guy that I think you
need to pay attention to is Ludwig Obert. Obert. Yeah, yes,
no doubt. I think there's something special with him. He's

(41:12):
got a little bit of that bravado, he's got a
little bit of that spunk, that little bit of the
it factor. So if there's a guy that outside of
I mean, again, it's so easy to go Scheffler, But
we learned in NCAA tournament. Hey, there's nothing wrong with
going with all number one seeds, right, There's nothing wrong
with it. There's nothing wrong with going with the guy.

(41:33):
So the question is, would you take Scotty Scheffler or
take the field for the Masters? Where are you going?
Mister Falco? Do you know I feel I might take
the field this year? I don't know why. I have
a little bit of a feeling about that.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
But I like Scheffler and he's great, don't get me wrong,
But I don't know, maybe the year is a little different.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, I'm taking the field also as much as I
do like Scotty Scheffler. And again, what we've seen over
the past two years was got at schef Leer. It's
amazing the golf that he's been able to play. But
I do think you take the field because don't forget
about Colin Morrikawa. There's all types of other guys that
I do can be in contention, but Ludwig Oldberg, I

(42:14):
think he's a guy.

Speaker 4 (42:15):
All right.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
How about this Clemson basketball. They were ranked number fourteen
in the final AP men's basketball in twenty twenty three
and twenty four, and then twenty second this past year,
which made Brad Burnell the only coach in the nation
to take a team unranked in the preseason to a
final top twenty five ranking in each of the last

(42:38):
two years. Well that's a cool stat. Hey, there's success. Yeah,
might not be a championship banner. I get that, but
it's the building blocks. It's the building blocks, and you've
got to make sure you understand success doesn't always happen overnight,
all right, and we talked about it. JT Toppin has

(42:58):
decided to return to Tech Tech. Four million dollars a
year is what's being reported. According to Matt Norlander of
CBS Sports, Wow, I'd go to Texas Tech team. Yeah.
I don't know if there's much in loveck, but for
four million dollars, yeah, I can definitely see why. Now
we did just talk to Jason temp of Hoops tonight

(43:19):
talking about David Adelman. Yeah, as a replacement there as
head coach for the Denver Nuggets. Well, guess there's another
name that is climbing the I guess the rumor meal
right now, and that's Danny Hurley at Yukon really. Oh yes, Now,
remember he was involved in discussions with the LA Lakers, Yes,

(43:41):
but now it looks like his name might be involved
there with the Denver Nuggets. So we'll see how that
plays out. And one last stat that I do have
to share from the championship game with Florida and Houston.
Remember this, we talked about how things even out well
in the final two minutes and five seconds against Duke,

(44:05):
Houston scored fifteen points in the final two minutes and
five seconds against Florida. Houston scored zero rough ending there
for Houston. Things evened out for them right there. All right,
that to some of the latest headlines, and we'll wrap
up this Wednesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show presented

(44:27):
by Ingles Markets right after this eight six four triple
seven ninety five ninety three. That is the text line.
And I know we didn't have a whole lot of
time to get to the text, but make sure you
know that the text line is always open right here
on the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets. Again
that numbers eight six four triple seven, ninety five ninety three.

(44:48):
And another name that I did want to make mention
for the masters who I would I think has a
real shot, right Justin Rose. I'm with the fan of
Justin Rose. When you watch full Swing, it's hard not
to like Justin Rose. So that's another guy that I
would be on the lookout for. All right, it is
April the ninth. Let's walk back in a little bit

(45:09):
of history.

Speaker 1 (45:11):
What happened on this day. Let's go back in history
to the moments you might have forgotten and the ones
you'll never forget. It's otd On this day, all.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
Right, nineteen seventy two, we'll go to Augusta National as
Jack Nicholas would lead wire to wire to win his
fourth of six Masters titles there in nineteen seventy two.
And in nineteen seventy eight, we saw David Thompson battle
George Gervin for the NBA scoring title, as he would
score seventy three points in the last game, but then

(45:44):
George Gervin would go out and score sixty three points
as he would win the title average in twenty seven
point two to two points per game over David Thompson's
twenty seven point one point five, which was the tightest
one to two finish ever in NBA history. And nineteen
eighty nine, Nick Faldo would make a twenty five foot
birdie putt on the second hole of sudden death to

(46:05):
win the Masters. Scott Hope missed a two foot putt
for par on the first hole of the playoff that
would have given him the title. And I know we
talk about Greg Norman melting down in the Masters against
Dick Faldo, but that's a tough one for Scott Hope. Man,
good grief. That is just brutal right there. And in

(46:26):
two thousand and seventeen, Russell Westbrook would break Oscar Robertson's
fifty six year old record with his forty second triple
double of the season, and he would score the team's
last fifteen points, including a three pointer at the buzzer
as time wound down, giving Russell Westbrook the victory over

(46:48):
the Denver Nuggets. There all right, that is OTD, and
that is this Wednesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show,
presented by Ingles Markets. We'll talk to you on Friday.
