Now for riches, take on sports. Here's Richmond Weaver.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Ready to roll this Tuesday right here at one o
four nine Fox Sports Upstate. This is the Tuesday edition
of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Ingles Markets. And
we appreciate you listening and being an investor. However you
might be in a listen you might be listening or investing,
I should say, either through your radio or the iHeartRadio

(00:41):
app which you can download through the App store or
on Google Play. We are in full force today jam
Pack Studio here, mister Trey Falco behind the board and
behind the mic as always, and mister Darren Angel Truth
or Darren Time as we do each Tuesday, as he's
from the Weisch Law for so thank you Darren for

(01:01):
coming in once again. And at least today is a
little bit better. The rain stopped. It was lightning, thunder,
raining like crazy early this morning. And then now look
at this sunshine. It's beautiful now, it is beautiful now.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
It was I mean it was. It was insane. Yesterday
I was trying to think of something funny to say there,
but like I just couldn't. It rained a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
The kiss principal, keep it simple, stupid. You know how
many times I have struggled with that too, And I
know you listeners investors have heard it at times where
I cannot get the words out of my mouth. I mean,
I hear it in my head, I hear it in
my brain, but I just cannot communicate it effectively because

(01:50):
the paralysis by analysis searching for that great line, that
great word, whatever it might be. And here's what I've
realized though, now that I'm fifty three years old and
about to be fifty four, is that, you know what,
I don't have the vocabulary.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
To do it.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
So why stretch it? Why try to search that vocabulary?
Because there's times I think I know the word, and
I'll mispronounce it, or I won't use the correct word,
thinking that it's defined by a certain way and it's
actually not and I'm using it incorrectly. I do have
some friends that are Grammar nerds. As much as I'm
a stat nerd, they are Grammar nerds, and they will

(02:30):
correct me at times, and that's okay. I mean you
do take a little bit offense to it, at least
I do at times, like little bit all right, yeah
I was wrong there, So at least you're educating me, right.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
But it's the delivery.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Oh yeah, I'm all good.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
About being taught certain things.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
But as with anything in life, it's not always about
the content of the message. It's the delivery, right, the message.
Now how that comes across what you say, about how
you say it exactly, there's something to be said about that.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
True words could never have been spoken. I mean, it's
so true. I got I actually I learned something yesterday
speaking of grammar police of you and I versus you
and me.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Oh, I don't even get me started on that. I
still don't even know. And I have tried to read it.
I have tried to have people explain it to me,
and I understand it in the moment, but then when
I need to actually utilize it, Oh yeah, forget, I
still forget about forget. I don't understand it. So alright, educated, So.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
If it's the subject, it's you and me, because you
wouldn't say me going to do you just take you
out of it. Yeah, that's the easiest way to do it.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Take you out of it.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
And I know that's exactly so easy to say that,
but that doesn't always for whatever reason, Why do I
struggle trying to come up with the example when I'm saying, oh,
just take you out of it, right, it doesn't seem
I can't.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I struggle with that though.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
Oh I have to do it in my head. I
have to go, mego the store. Now I go to
the store.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
You and me going to the store. Yeah, yeah, Trey
and me. You're going to go to the store.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
So you can say you and me, but you can't
say you and I.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Technically it would be you and I go because I
would go to the store.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, me don't go to the store. Yeah. He depends
on what language we speaking exactly.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Oh, don't even get me started on that. The English language.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I already struggle with it enough, and I think it's
absolutely ridiculous some of the rules that we have in
the English language. And if there was somebody that came
up with those rules make it a little bit easier.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
It's arbitrary. It is arbitrary.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
There's so many things in life that are arbitrary, but
we just go with it, because that's the way it's
been done, you know, for so long.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
All Right, we digress.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
We are going to be talking sports, but there's something
to be uh, I guess recognizing that sometimes in life.
I mean it's the things like that that are actually
get you. I guess.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
See, here we go.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
That's it, all right, sports, Okay, So I'm just going
to stop.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
And not even worrying about.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
The English language here, and let's just focus focus on
sports because at least I know a little bit about that.
Not always, but at least a little bit. As we
do have Darren Angel from the White Law Firm here
joining us each and every Tuesday for truth or Darren.
We do have some NFL things that I want to

(05:36):
talk about. The NFL schedule release, and it's still dripping,
there's still you know, putting it out there, ever so slightly.
Tomorrow's the official full release of the NFL schedule. So
I know there's people excited about that because there is
something to be said about if you are traveling, if
you are looking at scenarios where you want to go

(05:58):
to a certain game, whatever it might be. So there
is some excitement from that standpoint. But also I saw
some interesting information about NFL teams and the travel associated
with that, especially now that we'll talk about it. The
NFL has the largest slate of international games they've ever had,

(06:20):
and so there's teams that are going to have some
significant travel. Yeah, And I'm just curious is travel impactful
on professional teams and especially football. So I've got a
little bit of data that we can look at to
see if total travel miles or crossing multiple time zones

(06:43):
does that impact At the end of the day, what
really matters.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
The most w's and l's wins and losses.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
And so we'll take a look at some of that,
and in including in twenty twenty five, we might actually
make some of our predictions as far as based on travel,
who we think might have a better season and who
might have a worse season based on the number of
total travel miles that they have or time zone. So
we'll take a look at that. But I do want

(07:12):
to talk about NBA playoffs. As we saw last night,
the New York Knicks the Knickerbockers one twenty one to
one thirteen. Jalen Brunson thirty nine points twelve assists just
the grit the determination of the Knicks, and we talked
about it yesterday, Trey that hey, I felt they they

(07:33):
could be in trouble if they came out flat in
Game three, right, And they did. They came out flat,
Boston knocking down three pointers like nobody's business relative to
how they shot from beyond the arc in the first
two games of the series. And then Jason Tatum forty
two points, eight rebounds, four steals. But he goes out

(07:55):
there in the fourth quarter, and I know it's supposed
to be having an MRI today. Haven't heard anything about
the results. I have been looking, but as of right now,
no results are out there or any type of reporting.
But I can gohe and tell you I've seen a
lot of things in terms of injuries and players coming

(08:16):
off the court, coming off the field, and you can
be surprised at times what I'm telling you right now now,
Jason Tatum was carried off the court right there. I
don't see him coming back for certain in this series,
let alone the rest of the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Yeah, that that's just one of those I think. I mean,
I don't think you have had to have played or coached, right,
but like if you have, you've seen that stuff.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
But you're just watching that games, You're like, right, Okay,
that's different.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
That that was a serious I mean, I hate that
we're saying it and then we have to talk about
it because it's you want you just you don't want
to see that for him. But like, that was a
serious injury, no doubt, there's no doubt. You know. I'll
go on as far as the Lemmon say, somehow they
can come back, Like he ain't playing in the conference finals,
so somehow they come back. I just I think this

(09:05):
is unfortunately probably an achilles injury.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, he might be done, yes, for a long period
of time, even as I mean it is almost June,
Yeah it is.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
We're basically in the middle of May.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
And for these guys, remember the NBA season starts in October.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah, so depending on.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
The injury, we might not even see Jason Tatum right
ready for the beginning of the NBA season. And again
I am speculating, and you know, I do not want
to be doom and gloom, and I'm all about, hey,
let's let's focus on you know, positive thinking, forward thinking,
windshield mentality that it's not as bad as it looks,

(09:46):
you know, all of those things just saying you also,
there's some realism that plays into it. If it is
one of these injuries like you're talking about Darren, that's
a significant amount of time for Jason Tatum to have
to be ready to come back.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Correct me if I'm wrong. It's an eight to twelve
month recovery for an achilles, right, and eight is usually on.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
The that's on the early end.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yes, yeah, yeah, and not all achilles injuries are the same,
And that's what we have to be careful because a
tear is not just there's not one definition of a tear.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
There's degrees of tears.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
So you can have a tear and you be able
to be more on that eight month recovery, or you
can have a more severe tear that it's going to
take you longer to heal. And also your age is
a factor into all of that, and also how much
you put into.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
The rehab portion of it.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
And there's also and this is a tangent because of
my medical device days, and I remember just even talking
with surgeons and some of these surgeons, high level surgeons
that operated on professional athletes, and one of the interests
things that they told me and looking at imaging when

(11:05):
you're talking about MRI and X rays and all of that,
and you're talking about tears and the different degrees. And
they talked about you do not treat the image. So
you might see something on the imaging, but unless it
correlates to symptoms, you do not just treat the image.

(11:27):
And a prime example was that one of the surgeons
talked about rotator cuff tears. And there's a guy, cam Newton,
had a rotator cuff tear right up in Charlotte, and
the surgeon that operated on him talked about that in
relation to baseball players that he is treated in the past,

(11:51):
and they did studies on baseball players.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
There were a large number of.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Baseball players in this study that had rotator cuff tears,
but they were non symptomatic, so they didn't hurt the
picture really. And the conclusion was is that some of
these tears were almost something that they have had for
a long period of time, and even they wondered if

(12:20):
there were some genetics involved that allowed these tendons to
tear without symptoms, and that's why these pictures could throw
ninety eight miles per hour one hundred miles per hour
where other people couldn't because they could get that extra
rotation to coming back or forward.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
And I just thought that was amazing. Oh yes, you're weaver.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Oh yes, yeahsout it exactly.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Thatscinating.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
So we're off on a tangent here, obviously with this
type of discussion. But that's my point about not all
tears are exactly the same. And that's why I even
look at and Aaron Rodgers. Oh yeah, as much as that,
I don't know if that was a full blown Achilles
tear that he had, yeah, because he came back.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
Oh he's quick, unless he had some kind of weird
I mean he talked about his doctor, you know, he
had that unconventional doctor or whatever work that he had
done on his leg. That's right, nobody talks about. But
I kind of agree with you. I don't know if
it was as bad as Aaron Rodgers was making it
out to be. Yeah, and again there was a tear,
but to what degree was that tear? And we do
know it limited his ability to actually perform out on

(13:30):
the football field. But there is something to be said
about the different degrees of tears. But Jason Tatum and
the Celtics are in trouble now. Yeah, they're in trouble
now and it will be a Jalen Brown type of scenario.
Porzingis is going to have to play much better and
the supporting cast there for the Celtics for them just

(13:50):
to stay alive in this series, because we do know
statistically speaking, you go down three to one, I mean,
it's like a less than five percent chance that you're
able to come back in that series.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
So that will be interesting. And then also Minnesota Timberwolves.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
One's seventeen to one, ten over the Golden State Warriors
and the Steph Curry less Warriors there as also he
is dealing with an injury and Trey you and I
were talking about this.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
This seems to be a theme right now. Yeah, in
the NBA.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
As far as these playoffs and how we could see
series significantly impacted because of injuries. And I do believe
that Golden State with Steph Curry, I think they could
actually win this series.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
And the Celtics without Jason Tatum, I just do not
see them beating the Knicks now that the Knicks have
momentum all of that. So it's interesting right now with
the NBA. And we even saw Anthony Edwards he got hurt.
Now he was able to come back. Fortunately it wasn't
a more significant injury a few games ago. But there's
something to be said right now that if you're the

(15:00):
NBA man, Adam Silver's got to be talking about, Man,
we just need all of our stars to.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Be healthy, absolutely, you know. I mean it's the playoffs
have actually still been really good in terms of competitiveness,
but I mean they're still going to be really good
if Steph Curry's playing, if Jason Tatum's playing, if Anthony
Edwards isn't banged up, if if Jimmy Butler is not

(15:27):
banged up, right like, you want your stars to be
at their peak and at their best right now.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
To your point, you gotta have the stars playing and
we and I can't.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Remember another year where there have been this many big
names that have either missed games or are ailing at
this point of the season.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Well, and because we talked about this off the air,
and I was sitting here thinking, I was like, I
feel like there's been some kind of jury in every
single series right now. And you talked about ant Man,
I think, yeah, he went on, but he came back,
that's right. And then I'm from what I'm reading it
seems like, uh, Donovan Mitchell, he's a game time decision
for game five.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
No, sorry for whatever game five? Uh yes, yeah this
game wow. Yeah, yess.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
I feel like there's like it feels like key injuries
in each one of these series to the star players.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Yeah, well to your guys' point, the Calves, they have
a game where arguably their second, third, and fourth best player.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Yes out not even there. Yes, I mean, and.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
I'm going to give these guys a betnefit of the
doubt because I'm just not I'm just not gonna to
go to the to to this place like I'm gonna
give them the benefit of doubt, like they would have
been out there if they could. I'm not saying, well,
you know, they're no these dudes at this point in
the year. They are playing if they can. And so
the fact that those guys weren't able to play just

(16:47):
tells me the level of the I mean, they are
banged up, they're hurt.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Okay, So this is an interesting topic and I know
we're gonna have to.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Save time for more of this at a different time.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yeah, because this is something that does irt me that
we have this mindset that because somebody is getting paid
that right, they lose their competitiveness. Hey, I'm not saying
it doesn't happen, but I promise you that we cannot
make this connection, this correlation that because you're getting paid,

(17:27):
and if you're getting paid millions of dollars, you get
less or you're less motivated because of how much money
you're making. So there's no inverse relationship in terms of
if you make millions of dollars, you're going to be
less competitive, or if you make you know, a few dollars,

(17:48):
you're going to be more competitive. No, there's no relation
like that out there.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
And how we want to extrapolate that to that's what's
going to be the demise in college after right that
once we start paying these athletes, they once they start
getting paid, they're going to be like, oh the hell
with it, I'm not going out there.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
I'm going to be lazy. Who cares. I don't care
if we win or lose. I'm getting paid. Sorry.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
These people, they're athletes and inherently there's something in their
DNA that makes them competitive.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Why are different?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
It makes these guys go? It makes you tick. I mean,
think about it back to when you were playing. I mean,
I would do anything to be out on the floor.
Of course, I don't care if you were. And it's
easy to say, but like, I don't care if you're
paying me a million dollars. I want to go beat
the the the you know what out of whoever I'm playing.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Yes, And even when I was in medical device sales,
I was still getting paid and I'm like, I still
want to be the number one right, Yes, you want
to win. And there's just something about that, And that's
what it gets me frustrated.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
When we want to use that type of Again, here
we go searching for the right record. What's that rhetoric.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yeah, that type of rhetoric exactly, Yes, or that narrative
that you have these athletes that don't care just because
of the amount of money that they make. And I
just don't buy into that because these guys at that level,
I've talked to enough of them, and I'm telling you
they want to be out on the court.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Not saying it's a blanket statement that that applies to everybody.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
This is also true in life.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
That's why some people that have jobs, they don't work
as hard as other people in jobs. It's just us
being human being and nature. Yes, it's just human nature.
That's it. It's not necessarily just about because it's an
athlete and they get paid millions and millions of dollars
that they lose their motivation.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
I definitely do not buy into that. All right, we
do have to hit this break.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
When we come back, though, we will dive into the
NFL schedule, but also the NBA Draft lottery. Did we
just see something absolutely crazy? And you know, mister Falco,
if you're telling me there's a chance, there is a chance, so.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
You're telling me there's a chance.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Yeah, there is a chance for the Dallas Mavericks. Much
more The Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Right after this.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Eight six four two four zero five to four eight
zero again the number eight six four two four zero
five four eight zero to the Ingles Hotline right here
on this Tuesday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show presented
by Ingles Markets and mister Darren Angel of the Weisch
Law Firm, joining us truth or Darren each Tuesday. Mister

(20:44):
Falco behind the board and behind the micas we were
talking about the NBA getting ready for the rest of
the playoffs and how the Stars are seemingly in an injured.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Type of situation.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
And we were just talking about Cleveland and tonight the
Indiana Pacers. They have a chance to go ahead and
close this out. And this might be one of those
scenarios where we're looking at the NBA playoffs with the
top seeds not making it, especially in the East. And

(21:18):
how much have we talked about in college basketball? Oh
my gosh, you know, you've got to have the top
teams in there, or it's we're all the upsets. You know,
we didn't have any upsets this past year in college basketball.
It just depends on the year itself that we come
up with these different narratives.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
But in the NBA right now, we.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Might have a scenario where the Boston Celtics, defending NBA
champions are out the number one seed in the East.
Cleveland Cavaliers run to be out. So could we see
like a four or five.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Seed team win the NBA Championship. How bizarre would that be?

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, it's funny you bring that up. I mean, I
was thinking about that this morning as I was catching
up on some of the scorers and looking at some
of the where the series is they're at and I'm
saying to myself, man, I mean, assuming the number one
seed loses, assuming the Cavs lose, and assuming Boston loses,
I mean, you're gonna have the Knicks or the Pacers. Yes,

(22:19):
representing the Eastern Conference and nothing against those teams at all,
but I certainly didn't think one of those two teams
was going to have a very legitimate chance to win
an NBA title because on the other side, I mean, look,
there's some great teams, great players, but like if Oklahoma
State doesn't get past Denver, I think, flip a coin,
any of the teams that would be remaining could win

(22:41):
the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yeah, So the question would be, from an NBA perspective,
do you if you have the Knicks or the Pacers,
Because this is not the nineteen nineties where we had
the Bulls, the Pacers, and the Knicks all contending. Yes,
you know, the late eighties early nineties continue for an
Eastern Conference Final championship and then getting into the NBA Finals.

(23:06):
This is not that. These Indiana Pacers. I don't even
know if most fans would be able to tell you
some of the players on the Indiana Pacers yes, Tyre's Halliburton,
I get that, but Reggie Miller was a different level.
Oh yeah, then Tyre's Halliburton relative to now and then
for the New York Knicks. Now, Jalen Brunson is definitely

(23:29):
increasing his stature, but he's not Patrick Ewing, not from
a name perspective, not from a image perspective with what
the NBA was at that particular time. So from the
NBA side of things, if OKC doesn't make it there,
and as much as we talk about how great Jokich is,

(23:55):
he's not that splashy type of image type of guy
where Anthony Edwards is.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
So does the NBA say, hey.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
We wouldn't mind haveing Minnesota there in the NBA Finals
if OKC is not going to be there. But also
OKAC outside of SGA, even SGA, I don't even know
if people really understand what type of player he is
who he is because it's Oklahoma City. Yeah, and again
that's disparaging to Oklahoma City, and that's not saying it,

(24:27):
but it's a small market team. They don't get a
lot of exposure. They're really good, but again they're not
like the Knicks. They're not like the Celtics, and I
even think from a Knicks perspective, again, it's still not
the same as it was thirty years ago for the
New York Knicks and how they were viewed in the NBA.

(24:48):
So I think there's something to be said about star
power in the NBA right now as we're in the playoffs,
and will ratings reflect if we don't have some of
those stars.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Yeah, I mean it's interesting to think about, you know,
especially if Golden State doesn't come back. I mean, complete
changing of the guard of Hey, you know, who are
these next stars that are going to be kind of
taking a step up to the next stage. And to
your point, you know the Anthony Edwards piece. People have

(25:21):
been talking about him potentially being the next face of
the France or next face of the league. You know,
is there a piece of it too that the NBA
is saying, well, okay, some of these are middle you know,
quote unquote middle market teams, but they've got guys that
we would love to see elevate and kind of help
us take the next step in terms of maybe passing

(25:41):
a torch. So to your point, it's really interesting this
dynamic of of what it appears to be today, the
likelihood of at least three of the four remaining teams
within the next couple of days of hey, is this
a change? Is this a real changing of the guard?
Where yeah, how does this impact ratings? But also is

(26:04):
there something that's really cool about this, because now we're
going to be able to increase the notoriety of you know, SGA,
even more of Anthony Edwards, even more of Jalen Brunson,
even more of Tyrese Halbert. But you know, the the
middle market team, to to your point, is just not

(26:26):
what it was thirty years ago, where it was I
think less of a deal. You know, the a lot
of middle market teams just don't get the national recognition
like they used to if they had a star player
like a Reggie Miller.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, there there will definitely be a passing of the torch.
We know that's going to happen. That happens every generation
in these professional leagues, and so it's just going to
be interesting to see which market, which players, which stars.
And also with free agency, there can be some movement
and trades that do happen, so that will impact it.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
But join the conversation eight six four two four zero
five four.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Eight zero, And before we jump into the NFL schedule,
let's head out to the Ingles hotline right now, the
Richmond Weaver Show.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Who's this.

Speaker 6 (27:11):
Rich mister Rangel? How y'all doing?

Speaker 4 (27:14):
Fellas doing fantastic?

Speaker 2 (27:15):
Chad, Chad and King joining us. Good afternoon to you, sir.

Speaker 6 (27:21):
Oh yeah, man, Well how about now it's trade the
way the best player on a crap new And then
they say, all of a sudden, get the first first
pick of the draft. Man, I don't know if it's
a quinkydink or not.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
There.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Yeah, there's a lot of people asking the same question
right now, like how did that happen? The conspiracy theorists
are out there considering what you just talked about, Chad.
In twenty twenty five, this year, yep, the MAVs get
the number one pick months after trading Luca twenty nineteen,
the Pelicans got the number one pick after a few

(27:58):
months of when they traded Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
Twenty and fourteen, the Calves got the number one pick
based on reports that Lebron James would be returning to Cleveland,
and in twenty twelve the Hornets. Now the Pelicans get
the number one pick months after they traded Chris Paul

(28:20):
to the Clippers. And we can even go all the
way back to two thousand and eleven where the Calves
got the number one pick eighteen months after Lebron arrives
in Cleveland. So, Chad, do you believe in this conspiracy theory?

Speaker 6 (28:38):
Repeat that again.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
The question is, do you believe the conspiracy theory that
the NBA is making sure that certain markets, certain teams
are fully functional.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
I think somebody needs I think an independent researcher needs
to go in and check them. Thing Pole.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
They had just Dallas heading, they.

Speaker 6 (29:05):
Got a little different weight to them or something.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Well, the theory, the conspiracy theory goes all the way
back to nineteen eighty five when David Stern was the
commissioner in the first year of the NBA Draft Lottery,
and they had envelopes, and the story goes is that, uh,
the accounting firm that was set to make sure that
everything was up and up, apparently they put one of

(29:33):
the cards envelopes in the freezer. So when David Stern
put his hand in the pile of index cards or
the envelopes, he would feel the one that was the
coldest or frozen and knew that that was the New
York Knicks, so he would pull that one out so
New York would get the number one pick and ultimately

(29:54):
select Patrick Ewing.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
So there you go, Chad, there's the old TI conspiracy theory.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
I believe, man, I don't know, man, Follow the money
is what I say. I mean, who's gonna benefit the most?
I mean, at the end of everything comes up you
wondering what happens follow the money.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
There you go. That is true. All right, Chad, thank
you sir. We appreciate you joining in the show. My friend.

Speaker 6 (30:23):
Ich y'all have a good one. We'll be tuned in
like always.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
Yes, sir, that is Chad the vending king right there.
And so.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
I agree with him in terms of if you want
to look at something, it is easy to trace the
money trail. And not that I believe there is a
conspiracy theory, but you can understand why some people do
believe that because as much as when we say follow

(30:55):
the money, you can look the people that are going
to benefit the most for a certain market, getting a
certain player, the entire NBA is going to.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
I guess benefit from.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Like a Dallas oh yeah, like a LA, like a
New York some of these big markets. But also I
just don't think there's enough that can be justified that
because if it ever came out, yeah, that just breaks
the trust of all of the fans. And I know

(31:38):
there's a lot of wrestling fans out there. I get
I watched it when I was a kid, But you
know it's scripted, right, And there's something to be said
about scripted versus sports that we know that's not scripted
when it's out on the court, out on the field,

(31:58):
and that's why we love it. So would we lose
some of our trust if we ever found out? And
for these organizations, how can they keep this under wraps?
This is the world that we live in where it's
all about exposure, right, there'd be a whistleblower, yeah, write it,
doubt since nineteen eighty five, somebody would be disgruntful somebody.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
And somebody wants to go viral.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Somebody wants content out there that makes them a star.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Somebody does. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
That's why I just can't believe in the conspiracy theories,
because there would be too much for these guys to lose,
these organizations to lose just for one little opportunity because
who knows Dallas.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yes, you can select Cooper flag. What a Cooper flag
doesn't pan out? Yeah, it's not guaranteed, right, not at all.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
And I get the fact that being in a bigger
market it is is in theory better for the league.
But at the end of the day, like just going
on who had the to the I think the best
odds with Utah, Like if you Tah against number one
pick and a draft Cooper flag, well guess what. The
NBA dictates who's on TV, and they're gonna put the
Jazz on TV.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Right.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
And I understand that some of it is the number
of eyes. You know, obviously LA has got more eyes
than Salt Lake City to tune in. But to your point,
like there's a there's a certain degree of no matter
where he goes, if he pans out, it's gonna be
a positive impact on the league, Oh dude, And like

(33:39):
it's not, like you said, I, I just don't think it's
worth it to take that risk where you lose complete
integrity of your fans. Yeah, and there's no getting that back.
Once that's gone.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
It's hard.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
You're not getting that back.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Yeah, it is very hard to get it back.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
And there's a lot of people also frustrated that the
Dallas Mavericks based on the decision that they made to
trade Luca in his prime and then they get the
number one pick, not even mentioning that the conspiracy theorists
around it, even if you didn't believe that, just the
odds of this happening when you have just basically over

(34:15):
a one percent chance that that would happen, and in
the order that the NBA Draft lottery played out the
teams that we saw there with the MAVs, Spurs and
the seventy six ers, it was a one and ten
thousand chants that it would end in those three as
the top three. So I mean, it is crazy odds

(34:38):
in itself, but people are also frustrated that how Dallas
gets that opportunity based on the head scratching move that
they made to trade Luka donjik and Terrence Oglesby former
Clemson basketball player and good friend and does a lot
of work with the ACC Network and also ESPN and

(34:59):
Fox Sports and also Field of sixty eight, and I
did I'm still in this from him because I saw this,
but he had boasted that the Mavericks getting the first
pick is like an irresponsible billionaire who blew all his
money and then wins the lottery. Yeah, that's exactly how

(35:20):
the Dallas Mavericks were able to somehow get the number
one pick in the NBA Draft lottery. And we do
know though, it's going to be Cooper Flag. I don't
think there's any question that is going to be Cooper Flag.
Now we'll see obviously what happens when the NBA Draft
is later this summer, But the caz do get number

(35:41):
one overall, and the Charlotte Hornets still struggling, still can't
get that had a fourteen percent chance and couldn't get it.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
And there obviously were.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Other teams that had a fourteen percent chance as well
if you saw those stats. All Right, when we come back, though,
we do have to talk about the NFL schedule and
the travel miles associated with certain teams and does that correlate.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
To success out on the field much more.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Right after this, the Tuesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show,
presented by Ingles Markets, continues right here on one of
four nine Fox Sports Upstate Live from the Ingles Studios
in downtown Greenville, right here on North Main Street, mister
Darren Angel of the Weisch Law Firm, joining us and
looking at some of the latest headlines.

Speaker 4 (36:29):
Right now, It's only one game and that's to take
care of Ben.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Hitting the latest headlines. It's the daily rundown, all right.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
We didn't talk about this yesterday, but the news did
come out yesterday because I wanted to at least spend
a little bit of time. Michael Jordan has been announced
that he is coming back to the NBA as a
special contributor on the NBA on NBC and as a

(37:00):
Michael Jordan guy. I'm excited about this as long as
we get the Michael Jordan that we saw from behind
the scenes content in the Last Dance.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
What say you, mister Darren Angel.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yes, right, yes, it's gotta be It's gotta be real,
mj It does I need off the cuff, like, just
keep it authentic.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
We don't need, you know, Authenticity is the number one
thing that we're looking for. That's what we loved about
the last Dance, at least I did, and I think
that's what we why we gravitated towards the last Dance.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
And also I think there was a.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
Part of it too that there back then, you just
didn't get a lot of coverage, and for sure you
didn't get a lot of behind the scenes type of coverage.
And then when it was released, it was during COVID
when we didn't have live sports and people were clamoring
for any type of content, especially sports perspective. So I
think there is something to be said. But NBA, I

(37:58):
mean the NBC NBA, I think they're doing the right thing.
Oh yeah, trying to bring some You're going to come
out your first year back with MJ with oh my goodness, Yeah,
that's how you come out trying to hit a home run. Yep,
trying to slam dunk. Yes yet up pun intended right there.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
And the NBA on NBC theme better be back. Oh
it is, it's confirmed. It's back.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
The you're talking about the rock ball. Oh yeah, oh yes, yes, yes,
it's back. Yes, it is coming back. All of that,
So be ready for NBC. It looks like they're pulling
out all stops here for the NBA coming up this
twenty twenty five, twenty sixth season in the fall.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
All right, how about this?

Speaker 2 (38:45):
In college football, it was announced that the Clemson Tigers
and LSU Tigers. Their game August thirtieth, Saturday, is going
to be broadcast Prime Time seven point thirty. He m okay,
Chris on the call. So the question is, we do
know it's going to be Lee Corso's.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
Last game day appearance.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
Will game day come to Clemson or will they choose
Ohio State Texas and that game is at noon?

Speaker 6 (39:18):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Remember Lee Corso His very first appearance on game day
was Ohio State game.

Speaker 5 (39:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
I know the storyline.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah, but I'm telling you there's something to be said
about coming to Clemson where you could have the storyline
who has the.

Speaker 4 (39:38):
Real death Valley Clemson or LSU. I think it's very significant.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
And we know that both teams have legit quarterbacks that
could be in the Heisman conversation.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
Yeahel issue and Clemson. All right, how about this?

Speaker 2 (39:54):
NFL The schedule is out at least impartial. We do
know the rest of lease is tomorrow, but the international
schedule has been released now. Week one, Chiefs at the Chargers,
Vikings at the Steelers in Dublin, Dublin.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
Yeah, you happy about that? I think it's gonna be cool.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
Like I'm excited to see the venue and everything we
talked a little bit off air, Darren and I. I'm
not a big fan of like the early games, like
a nine to thirty. I like to wait around.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
I like to amp myself up about it like that.
I want to wait all day. I want to make
a whole thing out of it.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
I love it, and I do understand that. I do
understand that. But we also have games. So there's actually
make sure I'm looking at that right.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
Yes, So there's.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Eight games, wow, No, seven games international this seven games
internationally this year. And so they also looks like now
we know travel miles per team in twenty twenty five,
the LA Chargers will travel the most thirty seven thousand
miles for the Los Angeles Chargers, where the Cincinnati Bengals

(40:59):
will only travel eight thousand, seven hundred and fifty three miles.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
Probably because the owners are too cheap to pay for airfare.
That's the only thing I can think of the NFL. Well,
you're paying for that's fair, that's fair. So eight thousand
that's a big discrepancy, the huge discrepancy.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
So I went back and looked at twenty twenty four
in twenty twenty three, So in twenty twenty four, the
LA Chargers traveled the most out of any team in
the NFL at twenty six thousand, eight hundred miles, and
the Washington Commanders traveled the least last year at ten thousand,

(41:37):
five hundred and fifty miles. In twenty twenty three, the
team that traveled the most the Seattle Seahawks thirty one thousand,
six hundred miles and they crossed over thirty six different
time zones. And the team that traveled the least in
twenty twenty three the Cincinnati Bengals okay, eleven thousand, nine

(42:00):
hundred and forty two miles and two years out of
the last three, the Cincinnati Bengals will travel the least.

Speaker 4 (42:11):
But does it mean anything, that's the question.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
So in twenty twenty four, the Chargers went eleven and six, okay,
traveling the most. This team with the second most miles
the Miami Dolphins twenty five thousand, eight hundred and sixty nine.
They went eight to nine, but the Washington Commanders, who
traveled the least, went twelve and five last year and

(42:38):
did make the playoffs, and the Chargers made the playoffs,
and in twenty twenty three, the Seattle Seahawks, traveling thirty
one thousand, six hundred miles, were nine and eight did
not make the playoffs, and the team that traveled the
least in twenty twenty three, the Cincinnati Bengals, were also

(42:59):
nine in eight and did not make the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (43:03):
So does it matter? I'm contending that it doesn't. Right.

Speaker 5 (43:09):
I feel like from a statistical standpoint, it doesn't seem
like you guy.

Speaker 3 (43:13):
You guys are coaches.

Speaker 5 (43:13):
Obviously, it's a little bit different when your players, when
you have those long travels, when you have to do it,
does it do you feel it take a toll on yourself,
like when you you guys have had to travel for
ball and things like that.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Oh, there's no question travel can be a part of it,
But I don't think it's going to be that crucial
that it's going to dictate your.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
Wins and losses. There's other factors that go into it.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
Now, you can be tired, and that does obviously affect
some of your ex's and o's in terms of actual performance.
But overall, I just don't know if there's enough data
hear that would suggest. In twenty twenty four, the Philadelphia
Eagles travel twenty two thousand, seven hundred and fifty six

(43:56):
miles and they won the Super Bowl. In two twenty three,
the Kansas City Chiefs traveled twenty four thousand, right one
hundred and fifty six miles and won the Super Bowl. Right,
so they almost traveled the identical amount and they both
won the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
So I just don't think that we can say that
miles traveled matters at least in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
Yeah, And I mean I think opponent. I would argue, opponent,
it's a bigger deal, right, because you can travel thirty
thousand miles. But guess what, if you've got the softest
schedule in the league, You're you're probably gonna be all
right versus well, maybe you travel thirty thousand, but you
got a difficult schedule. I think opponent really matters more. Now,
I will say, I do think you have to be
strategic how you travel when you are going to be

(44:40):
traveling a significant about more miles. But I'm with you.
I think I think it's more opponent.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Really, it definitely is much more opponent. Your matchup is important.
All Right, We'll continue this Tuesday edition of The Richmond
Weaver Show, presented by Ingles Markets. Right after this, the
Tuesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by Ingles
Markets continues right here on one four nine Fox Sports Upstate.
We want to thank Darren Angel from the Weisch Law

(45:04):
Firm joining us here for truth or Darren, and I
promise you we are going to get back to truth
or Darren. We've got some things heating up with the
house settlement and some lawsuits that are still out there,
roster limits, all of that.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
So a lot going on.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
But we also have NBA Action tonight, Pacers and the Cavs.
Can the Pacers close out this series there in Cleveland?
And Nuggets and the Thunder series tied two games a
piece right now, Ken Jokic, can he be the guy?
But is it okay? See the youngsters there Sga and
chet Holmgren and the rest of the crew. Can they
take a three to two series lead? And we will

(45:41):
talk with Jason temp host of Hoops Tonight tomorrow to
break it all down. But it is May thirteenth, so
let's walk back in a little bit of history and
skip the music, mister Falco, as we are running out
of time here. Back in nineteen seventy six, it was
the New York Nets, overcoming a twenty two point third
ordered deficit to beat the Nuggets to win the last

(46:02):
ABA championship in six games.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
That is OTD and that is this Tuesday edition of
The Richmond Weaver Show, presented by English Markets.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
We'll talk to you tomorrow
