All Right, Today NBA Playoffs, we are going to talk
with Jason temp, host of Hoops Tonight. He'll join us
in the second segment, so we'll really dive into the
NBA Playoffs with the Indiana Pacers.

Took care of business. They did Bye bye Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Cavaliers, Tyrese Halliburton and the rest of the Pacers organization,
which I love, and we'll talk about this with Jason.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
They posted on x all of the people who picked
the even Cavaliers, they kept those receipts.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
They kept those receipts and it was eleven different NBA
pundits that they listed and all eleven picked the Cavaliers
to win that series. And it was the Pacers that
we saw be able to get that to big victory
as they were down by nineteen points. Oh yeah, they're

(02:25):
in the first half, but going to seventeen to oh
run right before halftime. And that's the NBA. We've seen
it too many times. But we'll talk with Jason about
that series, about the Celtics Nicks with Jason Tatum the injury.
What that looks like not only for this series, but
in all reality, what this might look like for the
future of the Boston Celtics with their roster, because I

think this puts them behind the eight ball. Jason Tatum
is going to be out, oh yeah without it out for.

A long time.

He might be out the entire upcoming season, to pend
on how long it takes him to fully recover right
from this. And there's also that point of how early
do you try to come back, because what if it's
nine months and Boston is really not you know, in
the you know, the forefront of NBA playoffs, whatever it

might be. So how quickly do you try to bring
him back or do you just say reset? Hit the
reset button and we'll still have Jason Tatum on our
roster because we do believe he's a superstar, regardless of
how you think of him as a closer factor all
of that, we've seen how good he is from a

talent perspective on the court. Now you can question some
of the things. Does he have the mamba mentality and
all of that, But the Celtics are getting older, they are, yes,
and so do you look at that roster and somewhat
blow it up and try to regroup based on this injury.
So we'll talk to Jason about that. And also the

Nuggets suffer a loss last night. Jokic does what Yokic does.

He's only one man. He's only one man.

That's right, just not enough there against OKC is now
the Thunder up three to two in that series. And
then the Warriors will they be closed out tonight by
the Timberwolves. So we'll talk about that and we will
last Jason his thoughts too, conspiracy theory.

NBA Draft lottery.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
What are we to think of the MAVs getting the
number one overall pick? And it does look like it's
going to be Cooper Flag, which I did love seeing
that the right now the NBA Draft combine r is
going on nowhere near the NFL Draft combine. We do
know that just in terms of the media attention and

how much focus is on the NFL Draft combine versus
the NBA Draft combine. But what I did love seeing
is that Cooper Flag going to be the number one
pick and he's going through every drill, he's going through
every test, everything out there. And not to say that
some of these other players in the NFL don't do that.

But aren't we getting to that point where we're starting
to see some especially at quarterback. Now, I'm going to
have my own pro day, right, I'm not going to
go to Indy.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
I'm going to be.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
In a safe environment, you know, amongst my core group,
my people.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
I got to throw to my guy all of that.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
So I did love seeing that Cooper Flag is out
there just bawling out and doing whatever he can going
through everything else that all the other one hundred plus
draft combine invitees are doing right now.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Yeah, definitely, And I mean I think obviously he seems
like the first choice for every NBA team there that
wanted first place pick. But I mean you got to
feel pretty good they're sitting at one seeing him going
through all the drills and just the determination of the
character that he has, It's like, okay, that kind of
cements Yeah, he's our guy.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, I think there's something to be said about that.
In the Dallas Maverick sitting there with the number one
overall pick, and they have already come out and said
that not necessarily that they're going to select Cooper Flag, right,
but they have through all reporting said that they are
not moving off of the number one pick, so they're
not going to look at trading away the number one

(06:31):
pick or you know, and moving backwards whatever you want
to describ or however you want to describe that. So again,
I do think we're going to see Cooper flag as
the number one overall pick. But we'll talk with Jason temp,
host of Hoops tonight to get smarter about the NBA
and the NBA playoffs as we are getting oh so
close to the conference finals. They're in the Eastern and

Western Conference, so a lot to talk about there. But
I did want to shift gears before we talk with
Jason and talks to Major League Baseball. Okay, because the
news came out yesterday that Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete
Rose had now been removed from the permanently banned list

to be eligible for Hall of Fame selection. They're in Cooperstown,
and there was so much discussion around Pete Rose throughout
the years because you can look at his stats, you
can look at everything he's done, and even Shoeless Joe Jackson. Yeah,
and that we have a local connection to Shoeless Joe

(07:39):
Jackson here in Greenville, born in Pickens County, basically grew
up here in Greenville. One of the best hitters we've seen,
one of the best Major League Baseball players we've seen.
But the scandal in the nineteen eighteen World Series where
players were throwing games in the World Series and he

(07:59):
was up and in that whole scenario, but there's enough
supporting data that shows, statistically speaking, it was it was
almost impossible for him to be throwing the game because
he was playing so well, right, So if that's throw
yeah exactly, like okay, yeah, go ahead and hit three

(08:22):
fifty six and that's throwing it, I guess.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
So there is that, but it's Pete Rose.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
It's getting all the attention because of Pete Rose and
the persona of Pete Rose and then being caught gambling
on baseball while you're a manager, but not only just
gambling on baseball, but you were betting on your own team.
Now the reports are he was betting on his team

(08:49):
to win. Yeah, that he wasn't throwing games per se,
that his team was going to lose. But we do
know that he continue to deny, deny, deny, all of
those allegations for the longest time, and then eventually did
come clean.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
But it was too late. The trust had been broken.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
It was over, and Major League Baseball said, your biggest
punishment is we're going to remove you from the game,
and in fact, we're going to ban you from ever
being eligible for the Hall of Fame. Right, and then
the discussions started turning that. Okay, you know, time does

(09:35):
heal things. There is something to be said about that.
But maybe Pete Rose could have been a little bit
more remorseful. He could have come out and said, hey, man,
I made a mistake, bad decision by me. I'm so
disgusted at how things played out and that I didn't

(09:56):
own up to it. I didn't take responsibility, accountability in
their something I think as human beings we.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Want that we do. Yeah, he needed a PR guy.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah, he definitely needed a PR guy or the people
that he had. That's right, and there's something about humans
when people do make a mistake, mistakes happen. Right to
zone up to it if you're fully responsible for it,
and especially when it's your actions, and Pete Rose never

(10:27):
really was contrite enough to do that initially. Later on, yes,
we did start hearing him admit to it and be
a little remorseful, but almost in a backhanded way, you know,
and was it authentic?

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Were you sorry that you got caught like that's the es?
Did he truly believe that?

Speaker 2 (10:48):
And I think that has turned a lot of people
off in terms of, okay, should he be eligible for
the Hall of Fame? And so now he's passed away,
and that's what was so interesting that there seemed to
be some momentum that hey, maybe we should look at
Pete Rose for the Hall of Fame and how much
do we weigh what they've done on the field versus

off right, And so it started to the narrative started
to turn a little bit and wasn't so rigid because
initially it was like, oh, yeah, no way, he should
never be in the Hall of Fame. The integrity of
the game, you know, all of that. He was betting
on the game. That's that's the one thing you cannot do.

(11:35):
And then the discussion came about that it looked like
it could be getting closer that he might be removed
from the permanently banned list, but he wasn't. And then
oh well, just don't do it. When he passes away.
That should not be a factor that if he's living

or dead, and then sure enough.

He passes away.

And then now it seemed like out of nowhere that
we didn't hear any reports that they were getting close
to this, and then all of a sudden, it just
drops that, right, he's now eligible.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
So I'm just wondering. I mean, it's a very.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Tough situation, but I do believe that if you're going
to vote him, if you're going to let me rephrase this,
because this is not a scenario where he's getting voted
into the Hall of Fame, right, right, He just is eligible.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
He's just eligible.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, So I truly contend that if you felt that
you were going to make him eligible, you should have
done it before he passed away, just so he had that.
But maybe that's still major League Baseball saying I'm still
going to punish you.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
And so now now right.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
The punishment's over because you've passed away, and now we'll
let the voters decide what they want to do.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
But it's such.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
A weird scenario, and I'm just wondering how people out
there think, should Pete Rose have been eligible for the
Hall of Fame before he passed away?

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Personally, the way I look at it, I kind of
think yes, and it's it has nothing to do with uh,
like you said, like if he's alive or if he's not,
like that shouldn't have an impact on whether he can
make it in or whether he's moved from the band
lists or not. The way I look at it, and
I guess it's more an optics thing for me. Obviously
things were a lot different when he played baseball, when

he managed, you know whatever, Like gambling was bad. But
I don't know how anybody in any sort of position
of power in sports can look at that and rightfully
in their right mind look at it and go, yeah,
I mean he he gambled and that was really bad,
so he should be banned and he should stay on
that list. By the way, if you've got a sports
bet dot com, you can you can bet on the

parlays for tonight's game. Jason Tatum, what color shoes is
he gonna wear? And in the same breath, like I
just it, it baffles my mind. Major League Baseball presented
by a FanDuel, Thank you, thank you. It's so ingrained
in the sport now it's like it makes you such
a hypocrite to go, oh, well, no, now what he
did was so bad when everybody is doing it now,

it just is the sport.

Now sports has become gambling like it just it just has.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Tony Romo was penalized because he was associated with a
fantasy football league in Vegas, right, and now there's an
NFL team in Vegas. There's also going to be Super
Bowls more in Vegas.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
Not just that, but I can link my fantasy football
team with my YouTube TV account and I can get
live stats on the side of my TV while I'm
watching my games on how my guys are doing.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
But he's somehow connected with fantasy football, and that's where
the hypocrisy does come in. That's where you've got to
be very careful if you're these leagues as far as
being so rigid in one viewpoint, when you're taking money
from the fanduels, the draft Kings, yes, and you're forming
partnerships with those and I get it. Hey, things have evolved,

and I'm okay with that, right right, But that's why
you also need to evolve how your thinking is your
way of thinking, And that's why I do believe if
he would be eligible. Now, why couldn't he or yes,
why couldn't he have been eligible three years like you?

Speaker 3 (15:25):
I mean yes when he was alive.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Because at the end of the day, I do think
Rob Manford with major League Baseball, I do think he's
almost saying, Okay, I'm washing my hands of it.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
I'm done.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
He's off the list. But it's up to you voters
to decide. And then now that gets into the next narrative,
is he a Hall of Famer? Should he be in
the Hall of Fame? Will they vote him in the
Hall of Fame? And then will he be a first
ballot Hall of Famer?

Right?

I don't think.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
I think it's for another two or three years before
he can be technically eligible to be voted on because
of how long it takes after you're removed from the
band list.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
But it will be interesting to see how.

The voters view Pete Rose because there is a contingency
that has been very adamant or he deserves to be
He deserves to be in based on the stats. He's
the all time hit leader in Major League Baseball. I'm
gonna argue it's hard to argue when you go back
and look at all of his stats.

I mean, it really is. And the same with shoeless
Joe Jackson.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
I mean, I still don't understand why they've penalized him
and that family's name for so long when I think
there's still enough evidence that shows that he was not
really throwing the games there in the nineteen eighteen World Series.
It's gonna be interesting to see. You can join the

like it looks like they're coming, back it looks like
they're just feisty and playing. Hard but the truth is
they're like an. Engine they're an engine that is always.
Running and would they capitalize on the stretches of games
where you let go of the, Rope he makes a
couple of bad, decisions you turn the ball over a
couple of, times you lose sight of your man off
ball a couple of. Times it can, be you, know

Game AND i think part of the reason why people
Underrate indiana Is, Donovan like you look at that, Series
Donovan mitchell's putting massive numbers on the. Board game to,
game It's Tyree, talliburton you, know, STATISTICALLY i mean he
had that one thirty point game in game, five but
it's not like he's putting up these monster, numbers and

so people look at it as like a team without
like a legitimate. Superstar but IF i was rinking players
in this, LEAGUE i Think Tyre's caliburton's getting up there
into that like top, twelve top eleven type of, range
and it doesn't manifest in the crazy box score. Production
but at the same, time he can kind of take
on the shape of a star when it's. Needed like

last night he goes for thirty. Plus he's the driver
of the run in the first half that closes the.
Gap he's the guy who slams the door shut when
The cavs cut it to one. Late you go to
Game you go To game, two he you, know is
in a little bit of a funk throughout the game
as The cavs are denying him the. Basketball suddenly down
the stretch he gets free for a couple of layups

and hits the game. Winner go To game, one same
sort of. Thing he just statistically doesn't have this crazy
box score, game but he's the engine for an offense
that goes for a wire to wire victory Over. Cleveland
and SO i think some of the misunderstanding of What
Tyree's halliburton is as a player just kind of confuses
people into thinking this is not a traditional. Contender BUT

i view them as like a legitimate threat to win
the title this year as matter, fact which been my
initial perspective on The knick series IS i think The
pacers would beat.

Them and that's very.

Interesting and you talk About, HALLIBURTON i, mean he is
averaging almost twelve assists per game in the playoffs right,
now so he is that engine that you're talking about
for this fast tempo offense that they.

Have but when you look at, it, Though.

Jason is this a Different indiana team here in the
playoffs versus what we saw in the regular. Season they
did win fifty, GAMES i know, That but do they
just fly under the radar because they're The Indiana?

You it's complicated because like last, year most of it
was injury. Luck Tyree saliberson wasn't that good in last
year's postseason. Run he you, know they just kind of
benefited from the other teams breaking. Down you remember that
that was the og and An obie hamstring fronts and
had a hand. Injury they just The knicks just fell
apart and they were able to kind of like sneak

through at that. Point, Similarly giannis was injured in The
bucks series in the first. Round they benefited from some
injury like this year, Too but this is fundamentally. Different
it wasn't The bucks Without, yannis it was The bucks Without.
Dames and obviously With yiannis playing at the level he
was playing, at that's a more imposing. Team and then

you know that That cash team they had some. Injuries
Darius garland obviously was a shell of, himself but they
kind of just like kicked their butt down the, roster
Like Miles Miles turner Kicked Jared allen's but. Ty jerome
got his butt kicked by Every pacers. Guard DeAndre hunter

had a really bad, series Like Donovan mitchell And Evan
mobley were really the only two guys who were pretty
good in that, matchup and so The pacers just kind
of out plighted. Him AND i think the big difference
is is everybody on the roster is a little better
than last. Year Miles turner's playing the best basketball of his.
Career Aaron Ne smith is turning into more than just
a three AND g. Guy he's got some real close

out attacking. Capability Andrew nemhard is an excellent off guard
in this league that can pick up full court and
still run second side, action knocked out catch and shoot.
Threes but the big piece of it Is Tyree's halliburton
is healthy in playing at a true superstar level for
the first time since the beginning of the regular season last.
Year and that's like the talent influx that's giving them

the ability to win these. Games because as feisty as they,
are The calves led by seven In game, two, yeah
with less than a minute. Left as feisty as The pacers,
are The cavs had a nineteen point lead in the
first half last. Night and what's allowed them the top,
side the top, end to pull out these games is
the level That Tyre's halliburton is. Reaching and SO i

don't think it's the Same pacers team from last year at. All.

From WHAT i saw just offensively and how important is
it especially now, playoffs this whole rhythm, aspect that it's
hard to just come back from an injury and then

rhythm especially on the offensive.

Think it's, both it's both sides of it, Too, like,
Yeah garland himself being out of rhythm because he's, injured
and then there's also the Entire Cleveland cavaliers offense that's
playing a different style because of the fact That Darius
garland is, injured and like that's everything kind of fountains
out from. There so starting With, GARLAND i, MEAN i

can speak to this from personal experience every other basketball
player that's ever suffered any sort of injury and speak
to this, like not Everybody's Kevin. Durant not everybody can
walk back into THE Nba finals after taking a book
off and immediately look amazing like he's he is the
super's he has the most remarkable natural basketball Rhythm i've ever.

(25:15):
Seen but he's the exception that proves the. Rule like
even the player THAT i think is the greatest player
of all time In Lebron, james he had his rhythm
disrupted with a groin injury against The celtics towards the
tail end of the season and never looked like the
same player after. That you, guys remember The lebron that
went Into Madison Square garden earlier this year's, right you
guys remember The lebron that was like legitimately playing at

AN mvp level for two months spanning the end of
The Anthony davis era in the beginning of The Luca dontaje,
Era like he lost it and couldn't get it that
in time for The minnesota, series like it. Is rhythm
is a very fickle, thing and so especially for a
player Like Darius, garland who is a speed guard who
relies on his ability to get to spots and generate dribble.

Penetrate he's they said he had his big toe in
such an aggressive splint that he couldn't bend, it, wow
and that like it was affecting his, quickness but he
didn't care because at least he was in less. Pain
and like, That like WHEN i look at That i'm, Like,
okay so you got a shell of himself And Darius.
Garland and then the second piece of it, is this

was a team last year that or this entire, SEASON
i should, say that function With Darius garland as the
primary offensive. Initiators Donovan mitchell operated more as like kind
of like a tip of a spear score type And
Darius garland was the guy that would bring the ball
up the floor's pace and get them into their. Offense
And Evan mobley was staying. Involved and some of this

is On Donovan mitchell, too but like what happened was
is When darius got, hurt they basically reverted back to
the team from two years ago Where Donovan mitchell tried
to do everything. Everything, yeah and Even Evan mobley got
frozen out in terms of the way he was being
used on offense compared to the Regular even his usage
percentage in this series cratered from where it was in

the regular. Season and SO i Think darius's injury just
completely through a wrench in. Everything AND i think the
dead giveaway is, like, yeah The pacers kicked The cavs,
butt but there really wasn't even a stretch in the
series where they looked like The, cavs you, know like
you would have expected even if The pacers won this
series in, six you would have expected a stretch where it's,

like this is the team that won sixty four, games
and it's like we just never saw that they were
just completely overmatched the entire.

Series, yeah it definitely was a different type Of Cleveland cavaliers.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Team all, Right.

Moving, On Nick, CELTICS i think this is a foregone
conclusion With Jason's tatum. INJURY i just think The knicks
right now have that. Momentum But i'm just even more
curious about how Does tatum's injury Affect boston's Future. Jason
it's it's, Crazy.

BRISMAN i think it literally ends the. Era, yeah there
was already going to be some sort of pivot this
summer set around the expense of the. Payroll there was
just too many guys making too much money and a
compounds year to year you have new. Ownership there was
just no version of this where they weren't going to
look at it and be, Like, okay is there one
