Speaker 2 (00:19):
Ready to roll this Friday.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
As we have made it to Friday, we have made
it to another weekend and another opportunity to talk some sports.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
And we are glad you're listening.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Glad you are an investor for the next hour, putting
in your time right here on one O four nine
Fox Sports Upstate on the Friday edition of the Richmond
Weaver Show, presented by Ingles Markets. And just keep it
right here because at four o'clock we'll hand things off
to mister John Ellis with game on and he will
be with you through drive time until six pm. So
make sure you keep the dial set at one O

(00:52):
four nine Fox Sports Upstate or maybe you're even listening
through the iHeartRadio app right, How easy is that You
just keep it right there to one O four nine
Fox Sports and it might be one of your precept buttons.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
And that's what is so fantastic.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
About the new and improved iHeartRadio app is that you
can designate exactly the type of content that you want,
easy pas, preset buttons. It's simple and it's free. That's
the beautiful thing too, is that you can download it
through the App Store or on Google Play. And once
you do that, you can search for any of your content,
including your favorite content, which might be a podcast or

(01:29):
hey what about this station one O four nine Fox Sports.
And it is a fantastic Friday because we are jam
packed here in the studio. Typically we say we have
a jam packed show, so I don't even need to
say that because that is just it's an evident, that's
a given.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
But we do have mister Trey Falco behind the board
and behind the mic as always, and mister Darren Angel
from the Weisch Law Firm joining us here on this
Friday for a little truth or Darren this week. I
know you've been traveling, so you've been running hot. I
get all of that, so I appreciate you being able
to jump in the chair and get behind the mic
as well.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Wouldn't miss it every day I'm here, man.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
And what I do love as we're basketball guys, yes,
we're sports guys. But we love basketball, and it's the
NBA playoffs and just the different intensity that the NBA
playoffs have. And we got to see some fantastic games
last night as the Clippers now here in this series

(02:31):
three to three with the Nuggets, they're tied after a
big victory, one to eleven to one oh five. And
the Jokic, I mean the Joker, Nikola Jokic, and I
always get tripped up with his name, not the pronunciation,
but I go back and forth.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Do I want to say Jokic or do I want
to say the Joker.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Either one's fine, I know either one, but it's not
fine when you trip yourself to come out and say, oh,
the Jokic.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
No, it's the Joker and it's Jokic.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
So I I do appreciate the opportunity of talking about
the Joker because he just continues to show case how
good he is. Almost another triple double last night, but
it was the ageless wonder. We talk about Lebron and
we're going to talk about him, but James Harden twenty
eight points, six rebounds, eight assists, almost a triple double

(03:19):
for him as well, and Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers
get the victory one to eleven to one oh five,
and now that series is tied three games a piece.
But it was the Knicks and the Pistons that I
think stole the thunder last night. And that's not a
pun about the OKC Thunder and how dominant they were
in their first round series, but just from a perspective

(03:43):
of Jalen Brunson taking over in this game once again,
and I think he's almost making a mockery of what
I discussed a few days ago because I didn't call
him out, was calling out more of the voters that
had voted him the NBA's most clutch player for this year.

(04:07):
And I don't disagree with that, but I just didn't
think that he was a runaway type of favorite, and
I made mention of that, and then for the past
three games though he out and said, Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Here you go, I'll show you clutch. He was listening.
He was listening. Of course he had.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
That preset, but your preset number one.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
For him, that's right.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
He was not too happy that I took a little
homage to that. But Jalen Brunson with a big three
pointer last night to seal the victory for the Knicks
as they win the series four games to two. And
it's one thing you see the players and how they're
able to elevate their game and the intensity Darren that

(04:52):
we've talked about in the NBA playoffs, but it's another win.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
The announcers also.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Increase their intensity, increase their aptitude, increase their ability to
capture the moment, as only the best of the best
can do. And last night we heard two of the best,
Mike Breen, an Iron Eagle. So the first one Mike
Breen and this was on the MSG Network. And you've

(05:21):
heard Mike Breen on ESPN and ABC, but he also
does the Knicks games on the MSG Network. And here's
Mike Breen with a little bang last night describing Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Quicking bound to Brunson, Gotta be careful with the ball.
Johnson's got those long arms.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Down at twelve seconds, Bronson holding next, trying to wait
till the end.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Bronson buns up A three dang bang, Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
That's the three.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
A double bang right there from Mike Breenan that is
his iconic call the bank, and we've heard it so
many times every time I hear that though, and I
hear bank. I actually think of Steph Curry because there's
been so many times where he's made a call for
Steph Curry hitting a big three point shot, But it
was Jalen Brunson right there. And I'm a huge fan

(06:19):
of Mike Breen, but I think I'm even a bigger
fan of Iron Eagle. He's been a play by play
guy for many years and is so good in multiple sports,
and that's what is amazing, how good he is. And
I had the opportunity several years ago to have him
on my podcast, and we've stayed in touch with each

(06:40):
other and see each other occasionally, and we'll text with
each other every once in a while. And he is
even better as a person than he is as a
play by play announcer. But here's his version of the
game winning shot by Jalen Brunson, courtesy of TNT Thompson.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Taking in defensively eight seconds, Brunson stops.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
At a time, launches oh yeah, Jerry Len Bruns and
buries it.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Next late by three. The Brugs and Burner ignited, the
Bruns and the Burner ignited.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yes, we can all go back to science class in
high school, right chemistry class, I should say the Brunston,
the Brunsen Burner there as he gives homage and a reference.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
There, that's incredible. That better that better stick. If that hasn't,
that's the first time I've heard same here. That's incredible.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
And I do know that I have talked to Ian
several times and even asked him those questions about, Okay,
how much are you preparing for certain type of calls?
Right to have that in your back pocket, so to speak, yeah,
in case that moment comes up. And he has shared
with me that he prepares so much and he uses

(07:59):
about ten percent of what he prepares for because you
just don't know what's going to happen.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
But he did say that a call like that.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Now, haven't talked to him specifically about that call last night,
but where he's been able to make references, there's been more.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Times than not.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
He described that it just hit him right in the
moment now because of it, he did he was preparing.
So it's one of those things where like the neurons
are firing and you're thinking about certain things because you
have looked at different angles to how to describe something.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
And then in the moment it happens and it just
hits him.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
And that's what makes the best of the best, like
an iron ego be able to do that.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yep. Now, and I think you hit on something here too,
is like it's one of those things that you prepare
so much and so well that your your mind is
at ease in the moment and the creativity just comes out.
And when you're that good, yes, you get stuff like
the Berner or the bang, which seems simple, but just

(09:04):
the voice, the way it's done, the enthusiasm, the delivery,
it's different. But because they're so prepared that creativity and
their talent, that talent allows their creativity to come out
in those moments.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
It definitely does it.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
And I think that's something that we talk about on
the athletic side. The goats are that are in the conversation,
the elite of the elite that for whatever reason, they
don't overthink things because it's just reactionary. And how many
times have we talked about that that in sports you
want to get to a point where you're just reacting,

(09:39):
where it's Russell memory and you're not thinking about it.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
And that's what happens with these play by play guys.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
They've prepared so much, just like these athletes have so
in the moment, they're ready to go and they just
react and it hits, and you have some of those
magical moments not only from an athletic performance standpoint, where
they hit the game winning shot or you know, a
big play, whatever it is, but just like these play

(10:06):
by play people, those are their big shots. Yeah, those
are their big moments when it matters the most. And
I just love being able to see some of those
individuals at the top of their craft, like an iron Eagle,
a Mike Breen, and even a Kevin Harlan as we
know going back to Furman beating Virginia there in the

(10:28):
NCAA tournament and that's an iconic call from Kevin Harlan.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Yeah, I mean that one truly is. I mean that one.
We're biased, but that one will live on for a
long time just because the delivery was so good.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
So good.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
And that's what again makes some of those games where
you're almost captured by the play by play. And even
I know people talk about the radio call versus a
TV call, we know they're completely different because the radio
person play by play, I mean you're there to really
paint the picture and allow the listener to try to

(11:06):
visualize through your words, where the TV play by play,
you're just trying to also capture the moment and the emotion,
but let it play out, yeah, because you can see it.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
And that's I think both of them are challenging.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Yeah, because you want to make sure you say enough
on the radio side and to really be able to
paint that picture and be very efficient with your words.
But then on the TV side, understanding when you step
out ye, and when you come in and when you
emphasize to capture the emotions that the people are seeing

(11:43):
on their TV.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Yeah. And I remember specifically listening to I believe it
was Jim Nance talk about Vern Lunquist's famous Master's call
with Tigers. Oh yes, and they constantly talking about in
those moments, especially when you're on TV, the best thing
to do is to let let the illustration on TV

(12:07):
and the emotion of what's going on there dictate everything.
And sometimes it's best just to sit back and let
it play out.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Yes, And that's a skill that I think some people.
You can train yourself and get better at it. But
there's something about again, I just go back to the
it factor.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Some people just have it and it just comes natural,
and some people have to work really hard at being
able to do the same thing. And again that's why
I love not only from the athletic prowess standpoint, but
also just being able to capture the moment from a
play by play standpoint.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
I think both of them have their role in why we.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Gravitate towards sports, yep, because it's the emotions and the
visualizations and just the euphoria that we feel or the
heartache that we feel in those moments as well. And
then that's a big part of it with the play
by play person being able to describe.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Some of those moments.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
All right, when we continue this Friday edition of the
Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets, mister Lebron James
and the early exit. Is this the last that we'll
see of Lebron James on the court. We'll talk about
that right after this live from the Ingles Studios in

(13:31):
downtown Greenville, right here on North Main Street. Little gray
weather out there, maybe even dark weather, Oh yeah, I
mean going to.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Storm here in the Upstates.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
So make sure you take protection if that's on par
for what we see with the weather report, and just
based what we're seeing looking out the window.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Sometimes that's more.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Eyeball is accurate, more so than I think the weather
report think. So yeah, yeah, exactly, absolutely, Yeah, there's there's
no question that's confirmed. The eyeball test when it comes
to weather is a lot more accurate. As we continue
this Friday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show presented by
Ingles Markets, mister Darren Angel of the Weisch Law Firm

(14:18):
joining us here in studio truth or Darren, and of
course mister tre Falco producer extraordinaire, also making sure that
we are out over the air.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
All right.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
We saw just the other night the LA Lakers go
down to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Darren, we haven't really
had a whole lot of chance to talk about this, uh,
but I know maybe we mentioned it a little bit
that I had Jason temp our NBA guru, our NBA
analyst that we have each week who does a fantastic

(14:49):
job a host of hoops tonight, and he we were
talking about on Wednesday just with Anthony Edwards. Just a
freight train type of a player. He's coming at you hard.
Now he talks a lot of trash also, and there's
something to be said about that. But this guy right
now seems to be playing at a different level. But

(15:11):
again it's the playoffs. But what was eye opening though
that it was the Lakers though that they were doing
this too. Now, I know the Lakers don't have any
type of dominant center, letting ad go, and they thought
the magic elixir was going to be Luka Doncic and
just haven't really gelled for them. Luca still continues to

(15:34):
be a liability on defense. There is something to be
said about that. And there's only so much that Lebron
James can do. And there's questions about what happened even
in Game four with Lebron not scoring in the fourth
quarter at all, and that's not typical of what we
see with Lebron James. But how much is it that?

(15:55):
Is it the Lakers and their offense or is it
also Lebron James and he's forty years old? Is it
that the team just not gelling together with Luca? And
how many times have we talked about it. You can
have superstars all day long, that doesn't mean they're gonna
jail as a team.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
No, I mean, talent matters, but if if your talent
isn't playing as one or isn't playing ultimately at the
end of the day for the name on the front
of the jersey, you're gonna have a real tough time
winning at an elite level.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
No question.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
And Rudy Gobert for Minnesota in Game five, oh my goodness,
you talking about dominating twenty seven points, twenty four rebounds
and also just an elite level type of rim protector there.
And I do believe that's something that Lakers just could
not overcome. But the true story in the headline, not

(16:54):
so much even that the Lakers got beat, got upset
in this series, is the fact that at how Lebron
James goes out in the first round once again. And
we heard the reports and were just getting some of
this information that Lebron James suffered an MCL spraying in

(17:14):
that Game five loss, and so it started making me think,
all right, Lebron James.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Is forty years old, he's up there.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Remember he's been playing in the NBA since he was eighteen,
and there's something to be said about his career, what
he's been able to accomplish and now he was even
asked what the future holds for him, because that's what
we do. We have to know every year what's going
to happen, and rightfully so, because it's that point where

(17:46):
most people will already be retired. Oh and Lebron James
seems to be a freak of nature. He's already the
NBA's all time leading score over fifty thousand career points.
When you look at the regular season and plays. He
was the first player to reach thirty thousand points, the
first player to reach ten thousand rebounds and ten thousand assists,

(18:07):
so to have the thirty ten to ten club, he's
the first player to be able.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
To ever do that.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
He's got four NBA championships, two with the Heat, one
with Cleveland in twenty sixteen, and then one with the
Lakers in twenty twenty four Finals, MVPs four League MVPs
twenty one All Star selections, that's an NBA record thirteen
All NBA First Team selections, which is an NBA record.

(18:35):
Olympic gold medals in two thousand and eight, twenty and twelve,
and two thousand and twenty four. So you can look
at his resume, I mean it's almost like a two
hundred page book of greatness.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah, I mean it's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I mean he has surpassed Kareem mj and every legend
in a lot of the key metrics. So what is
there left to chase for Lebron James At this point?
We do know he's been chasing number twenty three. That's
been his idol, and that's been his goal to get

(19:12):
more NBA titles than the goat Michael Jordan. But at
forty years old and how he has exited the past
two years in the first round of the playoffs, have
we seen the end of Lebron James in this quest
to try to be able to get seven rings. I

(19:33):
think it's time that Lebron James has to understand that
it's extreme. Not that he doesn't already know this, I
know he does that how difficult it is to win
an NBA championship. So at this point, because of the
physical toll and the injuries, now he's still again forty
years old and still playing at an elite level. When

(19:56):
you look at what he's been able to do just
this regular season, and you were even talking about it,
Darren twenty four points per game, almost eight rebounds per game,
eight assists per game, fifty one percent from the field,
and shot almost thirty eight percent from beyond the arc,
which that's unheard of for Lebron James because that's not

(20:16):
one of his main strengths.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
He's improved that even over the years.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
So my goodness, I mean, we're still seeing some greatness
out of Lebron.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
But here's that. But it is.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
It time for Lebron to look in the mirror and
say I've accomplished an unbelievable And I shouldn't say unbelievable
because we have seen it.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
It's real.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
It is believable a resume that nobody else is going
to be able to replicate, or it doesn't seem that way,
just because of the longevity that he's had. So is
it time that Lebron James looks in the mirror and says,
I've had a hell of a career.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
It's a great question, you know. I mean, as as
a fellow forty year old who was actually in Lebron's class,
By no means am I comparing myself to you. But
we did play, we did play head to head. I
have played Lebron in AAU it's a funny, fun story.
Maybe for another day. He broke his wrist, and uh,

(21:21):
were you? I was the reason?

Speaker 2 (21:23):
I was not the reason.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
Okay, well I can tell I can tell the abridged
version if your time.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Oh, we've got time. But you've got to hear this.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
So we're playing in an AAU tournament in Chicago. Now,
mind you, I played on a pretty good, pretty good
AU team, and we finished top thirty in the country.
Our our seventeen year old year, our rising senior year.
He played on a team called All Ohio Red, which
was the Nike team. They were really good, had multiple
Division One players, obviously Lebron. Anyway, we're playing them at
a big time AAU tournament in Chicago, and it happens

(21:50):
to be the same weekend as the NBA Draft Combine.
And this was two thousand and one, so there were
a bunch of NBA guys that were at the combine
that came out to watch this game. Ton of NBA
executive is in there in the gym, and I mean,
we're down by somewhere between ten and fifteen, and we're
not gonna win the game, but it's not a complete blowout,
and we're like probably, I don't know, maybe maybe halfway

(22:13):
through the second half, played two halves and Lebron steals
a ball at like mid court, and it was our
inbounder was like power forward who was actually really athletic six',
eight and and it was he was the furthest guy
back and THEN i was on the complete opposite side

(22:34):
of the, floor BUT i was the next closest guy
AND i got to about half. Court, Well lebron takes
off from like the second hash mark on the on
the free throw lane and tries to dunk over our
six' eight. Power forward and this guy was not used
to having guys try to dunk on him more or
less even potentially jump, over him and so he kind

(22:54):
of freezes and, he's, like well it's too late to.
CONTEST this I guess i'll try and take. It, Charge
well bron's not, Anticipating this he's anticipating meeting at, the,
Rim yes and he gets to about his knees to
our six to eight guys head and he can't get to,
the rim and so he comes down on. His wrist

(23:14):
and it was the year if Any big lebron fans
remember he broke his wrist going into his senior year
and it was. Playing us so the. Game stops they
bring him into. This, room understandably he's he's jarred because
it was literally a complete. Clean break so it was
the wrist portion to his arm was, like separated and
ALL these nba executives are coming up, to us what

(23:36):
are you? Guys doing how Dare you and it wasn't
it was truly not. Malicious, play anyway they call. The
game they escored us out the back of the gh
and we ended up not coming back To. Play sunday
And again i'm, telling you like we were a we
didn't have, any superstars but we were that group that was.
Really skilled we played together for like four or, five
years and we didn't finish in like top thirty in

(23:56):
the country that Year. At nationals but they escored around
to the him and the game again wasn't. A blowout
we weren't, gonna WIN but i mean it was a
it was a, respectable game and they just end the
game escorted out the. Back door.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
See you, but anyway answer, your quest, superstar, status, right yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
Is a high. School junior but to answer, YOUR question,
i mean it's such it's it's a tough one because
you look at the numbers and he's that he's putting
up and there's just not pritting that much. Drop off
but to, your point there's really there's nothing left really
for him to. Play for i'm sure he's thinking in
his mind that he's got stuff to. Play for and you.

(24:32):
Mentioned it he'd love to get five and, six yep
or it'd a minimum get a chance to play. For
FIVE and i don't think they're that far off from
being able to compete. For that but to, your point,
YOU know, i mean now he's got this is the
first time he's had A a he hasn't had many
significant or quote unquote closest significant injuries in his, entire

(24:53):
career and that's a testament to how well he's kept
his back in. The shape but, you know you GOT
an mcl. Strain here he had a injury earlier. This
year he didn't have a brain injury last, year too
that kept him out a. Little bit so you're getting
to the point where you are starting to, Ask, yourself
look you've been. Really. Fortunate now that fortune is because
you've worked so hard to keep your body in. Tiptop

(25:14):
shape but you know this ain't the first time anyone
said this father time. Is undefeated and do you want
to get to that point where you go out potentially
in a scenario where you rupture and achilles or you
do have an injury and you just you truly at
this point can't get back, to yourself Almost Like. CHARLES
barkley i know different, body types But, like barkley the

(25:37):
last two years of, his career he's self admitted, HE goes,
i stunk and. HE goes i hated IT because i
didn't want to go out, like THAT and i was
going up against GUYS that i used to kick their,
their tails AND now, I can't i. Can't COMPETE so
i just don't want to see him get to a
point where and he's not necessarily showing any signs, of
IT but i don't want to see him get to
a point where he's like where he goes out not

(25:58):
the way that he. Wants, to frankly he should because
this guy is an all. Time great we don't need
to get into the debate. Of it you hit the
nail on. The head his resume speaks, for Itself and
i'd love to see him go out is on top
as he, Could.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Yeah and far be it from me to tell anybody.
To retire, you know if you if you enjoy, the
game if you have a love for, the game and
you still want to play and you can still compete
at a, HIGH level i think he should play if.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
That's what he wants.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
To do but to your point talking ABOUT, chasing mj
going for those, those championships, those Titles father time. Is
undefeated at a, certain point you keep? Chasing that WHAT
or i guess How does lebron, feel, if say he
gets those, two titles but he's not the.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Reason why it's a team that carried. Him there does.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
It still feel the?

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Same way can he, still, CLAIM hey i called UP
to MJ because mj ear in.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Those, Titles yes whereas at a Certain.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Point Lebron james he's not going to be playing at
that high. Level anymore does he want to go and
just have a team, carrying him carry him to get?
Those titles that would be. My Concern If i'm lebron looking,
at it like how much FURTHER can? I go and
what is my time living on getting? These titles And
if i'm just playing for the love of, the Game
then i'm just playing for the love of the GAME
until i, Camp.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Yeaheah and there's something to be said.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
About, That now lebron has missed twenty six or more
games in four of the last five seasons due. To,
injuries now he played seventy games, this year but he
logged some, heavy minutes almost thirty six minutes, per game
and at forty the body does start. Breaking, DOWN now,
i Know again lebron is, still elite but he's not

(27:27):
the same unstoppable force that we Saw in miami Or.
Even Cleveland, there now he also he got to play alongside,
His Son bronni james fulfilling as we, all know a.
Lifelong dream has talked about that so much that he
wanted to be able to, do that and so you
look at, the.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Resume you look at what he's been able.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
To accomplish so there's an easy Case For lebron james
to go ahead, And retire but There's Also. Lebron james
there's times when you realize he's not your average forty
year old and knowing that he's still playing at a
level where he can produce twenty five points, per game
eight rebounds, per game eight assists, PER games, i mean

(28:11):
they continue to SCREAM all nba. Not retirement and he
just had thirty eight Points in. Game three so as
much as we talk about and, focus on well he
didn't score in the fourth Quarter in, game four, well
hell he had thirty eight points in one game three
at forty, Years old AND so i think there's something to.
Be said and, KNOWING that i do Think the lakers

(28:34):
have a. Good core they're missing a. Dominant center they
need somebody who can be a. Rim Protector so lebron
doesn't have to do. As MUCH and i know he's
chasing immortality in terms OF the, mj right and there's
something to be, Said, that hey don't get fixated on
something that is dictated by so many. Other, factors yes

(29:00):
that go, into IT and i think you have to
be careful. With that but for me as a basketball
guy and also a guy who loves, watching GREATNESS because
I think lebron. Is great if you listen to the,
show previously you KNOW that i Still Feel michael jordan
there's nobody close to.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Being able to dethrone him as.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
The GOAT so i Don't, think lebron regardless of how
many more stats he can, put up regardless of how
MANY more nba championships that he. Might win he's not
going TO catch mj in, My eyes but now again
he Might in lebron's.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Own eyes but.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
As a fan OF, the nba a fan, of basketball
and a fan of, watching greatness go, For, it lebron
go out there and. Keep Playing h i'm all, about
IT because i think there's something to be said that
let's watch people continue to try try to chase. Some
greatness now that's the tricky, Point though it's because when

(30:07):
can you understand and look in the mirror and be
able to face reality AND say.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
I don't have. It anymore it. Ain't it and as.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
MUCH as i still Loved Watching michael, JORDAN play i
do wish that he never would have stepped foot With The.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Washington wizards.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
Yes exactly and remember you go back and watch some of.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
His games he. Still, dominating, yeah yeah they couldn't, stop him.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
And guys still talk about it that there's nothing they
could DO.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Against mj but it just wasn't the same TYPE.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Of nj and that's my only Concern with lebron is
that we won't see the same Type.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Of lebron But give lebron.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
So much credit because this IS what i think is
even more impressive than all of the stats that he's
been able. To accumulate it's that he was anointed as the,
chosen one. The, king now some of it he did on,
his own but think about this as a fourteen fifteen

(31:10):
year old you saw.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
IT aau, i mean he was.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
THE man nba executives, WERE watching nba scouts were watching
him at an.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Early age and guess what he lived up to?

Speaker 3 (31:23):
The hype, Oh yeah and not many people can say
that at. That age you're talking fifteen sixteen and then
eighteen INTO the.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Nba and you lived up to.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
That hype you have To give lebron a lot of
credit for being able to just even, accomplish that and
then he's still playing until he's forty.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
YEARS old i couldn't. AGREE more i mean the mental
toughness it takes in this era, as well with all
the social media and all, the negativity to be able
to persevere and live up to, and frankly probably even
as crazy as, it sounds even exceed potential. Potentially expectations
you have to give him a ton. Of credit the

(32:05):
discipline that he's shown and to, YOUR point, i mean
he's still putting UP all nba. Type numbers. He is,
YOU know i think at the end of, the day
and this this digresses a, little BIT is i don't
think they're that. Far off, but frankly is.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
He is.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
He does he dominate the game like he used to
on both ends of the floor to, control it like
he used to like have the have like basically. Puppet,
strings no, probably not but he still has a major
impact on. THE game i Just the lakers aren't, good enough,
That's right but. They're not but they're.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Not far they're.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
Not far but as we Know in jason timf even talked,
about this it's. Those margins they're, so small and especially
when you get TO the nba playoffs and you're looking
At The western conference and the gauntlet that you have
to go through just to get TO The. Nba finals
AND now i Think the east is catching up to a.

(32:54):
Certain degree now You've got cleveland as a. True CONTENDER as,
i mean it's easy to say they're the number. One
seed you've Got The, boston celtics and watch out For.
The knicks EVEN though i did feel That the pistons could,
upset them and they did give them a run for,
their money but it does seem that there's getting more
competition on the, eastern side so.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
There's no real.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
Easy path and that's the thing With the lakers first
year HEAD Coach, jj reddick you know, him learning, you
know through trial, and error being thrown into, the fire so,
to speak and understanding that coaching AND the nba is
different and then coaching IN the nba playoffs is even.
More different and that's a tough LESSON For jj reddick,

(33:36):
to LEARN but i do think he will learn. From
that but to, your, point though they are a contender
and they're not that, far OFF but i do believe
that they're far enough OFF that i don't know if
it's just going to be one player that's going to
be able to make the difference, For them and Especially
If lebron james can't continue to put up these type,

(34:00):
with numbers and how much is it going to be
relegated On To. Luka, doncic yeah and he's going to
have to be the one that's truly wearing the crown For. The.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
Lakers, YEAH no I think i think that's that's the
key point is they're they're, they're close but they're not
just one key, center signing, you know or, key offset
key off, season signing sorry this. Year away they're more.
Than that and, YOU KNOW I i i Do think

(34:36):
luca has taken a lot of heat that is probably
not all right. THIS season i do think he can shoulder.
A load, But.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Yeah i'm anxious to See what luca does in.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Off season and this is something that we can continue
this conversation because there's a lot to. Unpack THERE but
i agree with where you're Going with luca in terms
of remember he got, Blind, sided yeah with. A trade
he was, already injured so he's coming back. From injury
he was out of shape because.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Of the injury and even some of his.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Lifestyle choices that's that's part of, It also but there's
something to be said about just the mental side of
things as far as, getting traded and you get traded
To the Lakers with lebron and not to say he
wasn't already in, the limelight in the spotlight as the
star For The dallas mavericks making it TO The nba finals,

(35:33):
last year so he.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Understands stardom But.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
The lakers and the coverage is a little bit Different
Than dallas mavericks and that's just, a reality and so
you have to take that into Consideration. For lucas so
there's a there's a lot that goes. Into that but
let us know.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Your Thoughts should, lebron retire give us.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
A call join the conversation eight six four two four
zero five to four. Eight zero as will Continue this
friday Edition Of The Richmond, weaver show Presented By. Ingles
markets right, after THIS The nba playoffs, Continue tonight.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Yes. THEY do espn.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Nine pm oh, my goodness why? NINE pm i know It's,
OUT west i. GET it i understand That The Golden
state warriors up three games to two Against The, houston
rockets looking to try to close this series out as
they weren't. Even competitive They're in, game five and we
did talk Again with, jason temp Host Of, hoops tonight

(36:35):
who joins us each And every wednesday to get smarter ABOUT,
the nba and he, nailed it saying that he don't.
Be surprised houston's going to come out and they're going
to set the tone early and roll in this game
There in, game five and they were able to, do
That As steph curry actually exited out of that game
early because of, his thumb so he is listed. As

(36:57):
questionable and this is what's interesting Is That steve curR
is not too Happy About dylan brooks With The houston
Rockets Because steph curry people knew that his thumb was given, him,
problems right that he had a, spraying Thumb And dylan
brooks as the, reports go and According To steve kerr

(37:19):
And Even steph curry and other players For, the Warriors
That dylan brooks made it a point to whenever, he
could he Was Hitting steph.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Curry's thumb he.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Was doing whatever he could to make it Uncomfortable For
steph curry to the point of could he have that
thumb re injured enough where he? Couldn't play And So
steve kerr took him out of the game because the game.
Was over And That steve kerr is the master. Of
that and we've talked, about it how many times there's always, a,

(37:52):
chance right you, never know there's always. A chance we've
seen IN the nba that doesn't, these leads it. Doesn't
matter but Times Are steve kerr's like, White, flag yeah,
all right pack, it. In guys, we're good, we'll regroup
we'll get.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Ready for the. Next game you still have the. Whole series, That's,
Right yes.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
So there's something to be said, About that and That's
What steve kerr, Said, THAT hey i Just Took steph.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Curry out didn't want.

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Him to continue To Have dylan brooks try to hit.
His thumb And So steve kerr is WANTING the nba
to look into this and really investigate and not so
much just solely this, particular play but this is not
the first time it's happened with superstars and if there is,
an injury do players try to do the little things

(38:40):
to have them reaggravate. An injury so it might be
a little chippy tonight With the Rockets. And warriors as
We Saw draymond, green again just ridiculous. Stat line as,
you know he has a hell of a defensive stop
at the end of, the game but his multiple fouls

(39:01):
as a technical foul has a. Flagrant foul that's A
Standard draymond Green, stat, oh yes fill in the statute.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
For sure.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
That's, right yes and hardly did, anything else but he
was a nuisance there on. The floor so this might
be a little bit of a heated game tonight at
nine PM on espn As the warriors again trying to
close out. This series as you're listening To The Richmond
weavers show Presented By ingles markets right here ON one
o Four Nine Fox, sports Upstate Mister darren angel From

Speaker 3 (39:45):
All right how about this IN, the nba we did
hear It That, greg popovich long time head coach For
The San, antonio spurs has decided to.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Step DOWN which i didn't.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
Think this was a surprise because the health issues with
everything that's going On With, greg POPOVICH and I Think
mitch johnson's been doing a, admirable job so, to speak
and that was a little bit of ton of pun
going back To the admiral, or Yes Mister david, robinson
There Longtime San antonio Spur But mitch johnson has been

(40:20):
an assistant coach For the spurs for a decade or
so and he's been serving as the interim COACH so
i do think it's Time That greg popovich he understood
the situation, and said, all right just the grind of
everything is too much based on my. Health Issues So
greg popovich has decided to. Step down, all right how?

its luster in terms of coverage people talking, about IT

it has declined a, Little bit But The kentucky derby
