the second segment, I'm excited about this Clemson golfer Bryson
Nimmer's going to be joining us fresh off of his
(01:27):
very first Corn Ferry Tour victory down in Mexico at
the Tuloom Championship. This is a local product, grew up
in the Low Country, as I mentioned, went to Clemson,
had a fantastic career at Clemson. His father was an
All ACC golfer at Clemson. Also the first father son
duo in ACC history to be able to do that.
(01:48):
So absolutely excited to be able to talk some golf
with Bryson. And he will be playing in the BMW
charity program presented by td cen X in a few
weeks that first week of June at Thorn Blade Club
and the Carolina Country Club there in Spartanburg, so we'll
definitely get some insight how excited he's going to be
coming back to the area, right and obviously here in
(02:11):
the Upstate, so we do have that.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
In the second segment.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
And NBA Playoffs, Oh my goodness, we just talked to
Jason temp, host of Hoops Tonight yesterday and talking about
the Celtics right and the new York Knicks in this series,
and I agreed with Jason on so many things that
it's still it's the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
They're the defending champs.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
And on paper they should be winning this series right
against the New York Knicks, or they should be able
to handle the New York Knicks. But when you have
situations where I think you're getting out physical defense, intensity
is different for New York.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
There's something about.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
This Boston team that, as talented as they are, do
they lack some type of identity? Is that what I'm
looking for? They just don't seem to have that that
grit grind mentality. And maybe I'm reaching here, and I
know other people have talked about this too. I'm just
(03:18):
trying to figure it out. And I did mention though
yesterday that Okay, Boston, you're the defending champs.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I don't know if you want to go down oh
two to the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Yeah. I think.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
I think personally this is something that we keep circling
back to. It feels like year in and year out
when it comes to Boston and it comes to playoff time.
I think it was maybe not last year, but it
was the year before that.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
And I guess.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Leading up into last year, there were questions about all right, Tatum,
like you the guy, are you gonna do it? Like
you really need to, You need the man. You need
to put this team on your back and make it happen.
And I feel like every year coming into the playoffs,
there's something about Austin that we keep coming back to
and talking about. And now they're sitting here against the Knicks.
And to your point, do you really want to go
(04:07):
down oh two to the Knicks? You are the defending
champions and that I mean, you still got plenty of games.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
It's not over. This is not a good lot over.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
No, but we do know statistically speaking, that you go
down three in a series, yeah, then that is a
scenario of deep trouble. Now for Boston, they have actually
played a little bit better on the road against better
teams than they have at home, so there is something
to be said about that. But so far in this series,
(04:37):
this is an interesting stat Celtics three point field goal
shooting in this series versus the Knicks.
Speaker 6 (04:47):
Not a lot.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Oh yeah, twenty five percent. And that's one thing to say,
twenty five percent, okay, right, right right, Yeah, it's five
percent that's that's okay, Hey, that's poor shooting twenty five
percent when you're looking at teams that are hovering close
to thirty eight percent on average, like a good shooting
(05:10):
team and the elite ones getting really close to forty
percent from beyond the art. But when you say twenty
five percent, make sure you put it into context also,
because twenty five percent can be one of four.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah, right, totally, okay.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Yeah, the Celtics are twenty five of one hundred, so
they finally broke one hundred. They have missed seventy five
three pointers in two games. They've only played two games
against the Knicks in this series, and that's.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Not a recipe for being able to win games.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
And we do know in that first game they attempted
sixty three pointers there and missed forty five of those.
So knowing how they played down the stretch, remember they
had twenty point leads in both of these games and
lost them. So there's something that they can't close out games.
And so do you question the heart of the Celtics
(06:09):
and the close out mentality of the Celtics knowing that
they were able to do it last year, able to
get over that hump and that's where we talked about
with Jason Tatum. Okay, did he finally get over the hump,
get an NBA championship, get the monkey off his back,
get the pundits no longer talking about Oh well, Jason
Tatum doesn't have the it factor and doesn't have that.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Mamba mentality that.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
We would see with Kobe Bryant or even the drive
that we would see with a Michael Jordan, those type
of players. And now we're almost back at the same
point because the Knicks have now taken a two to
zero lead in this series and being able to close
out the way they did and even more so, yes,
(06:58):
I know it's a twenty point come back, and they
were able to do that and were able to hit
big shots down the stretch led by Jalen Brunson. But
there's something also when you see what they did at
the end of both games. You had the NBA Finals
MVP Jalen Brown right, get the ball ripped out of
(07:20):
his hands that last possession, and then last night you
had Jason Tatum.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
With I don't know what he was doing. He just
threw the ball away right and didn't even attempt to
take a shot.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Now, I know the Knicks double teamed him right there,
But you're Jason Tatum.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
You're supposed to be the guy. You're him, you're him. Yeah,
and he threw the ball away.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
So not pinpointing it just on Jason Tatum, but on
the Celtics in general and seeing that they weren't able
to finish that game, and especially how the Knicks were
able to gain some momentum. I feel from a confidence
standpoint that they took both of those games away from
(08:03):
the Celtics with huge defensive performances, especially last possessions of
each game, right.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
And that's a dangerous place to be. If you're Boston
playing against the Knicks. You don't want this team coming
in getting any sort of confidence on you. Because it's
one thing to have confidence against the team and be like, oh,
I think I could take them on. But when you
were going against the defending champs and you start building
confidence against the defending champs, that's another level of confidence.
In my opinion, you're looking at it like, oh man,
well they want everything last year. If I could beat them,
(08:32):
that we're good. We can beat anybody.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
We know the Celtics have the targets on their back.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Especially in the East, and I think there's something to
be said that the Knicks are like, oh, what the hell,
We're going after it right, no holds barred here, Let's
do everything we can. Let's steal these two games. And
they were able to do that. And then out in
the West we saw, ok see, they were able to
yes pun intended rebound after that loss to the Nuggets
(08:59):
there in the first game, and they were able to
contain the joker there as Jokic was only able to
have seventeen points, eight rebounds, six assists, and he did
foul out of that game. And it's interesting there's been
a lot of talk about Scott Foster, longtime NBA ref
that had been injured and came back, and there's almost
(09:21):
a point where is the game about him at times,
at least the narratives, And he fouls out Jokic there
in his first game back. So only fitting that it
adds to the storyline of a referee an official being
part of the story. But the thunderdo get the victory
one nine to one Zho six and they look like
a team as they were being able to route the
(09:44):
Nuggets there that Yeah, there's a reason why They're the
favorite right now to win the NBA Championship because they
played extremely well as a team. And Jason temp who
we had on yesterday host of Hoops Tonight, he did
talk about that Jokic presents them with so many problems,
(10:04):
but right they still are talented enough team they can
win this series and can win it easily. But it's
the margins that we've talked about, the what ifs also
that they allow certain things to happen and don't do
some other things to defend Jokic. Then watch out for Denver.
They could you know, have an upset in that series.
(10:26):
But the thunder we're able to rebound again. Pun intended there.
All right, real quick though, I do want to talk
about this switching gears. This is something that we mentioned briefly,
but it's President Trump and his new commission led by
none other than Nick Saban, and it's all about tackling
(10:47):
the chaos that we have right now in terms of
what's going on with college athletics. And if you haven't heard,
it's all about Nick Saban's going to lead President Trump's
College Sports Commission that he has put forward to find
out what type of regulations, what type of things that
(11:08):
they can do to examine NIL, transfer, portal athlete compensation,
Title nine, all of that. And he's going to co
chair it with Cody Campbell, a billionaire that seems to
be on some of the same sides as President Trump
in terms of Okay, hey, we need to have something
(11:29):
in place. My question, though, is as much as we
love Nick Saban and his.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Accomplishments and what he has done for.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
College football, fantastic coach, Yes, and what we would say
is maybe the goat of college football coaching.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
It's hard to ar. I would say he is. But
my question is is he the guy?
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Is he the guy to lead us into this new
world of college athletics where he hasized INIL not saying
that he doesn't think players should be compensated, but what
he has talked about. Back in two thousand and four,
He's quoted us saying all the things I've believed in
for fifty years of coaching no longer exist in college athletics,
(12:17):
and even argue that the NIL has damaged college sports
by creating an uneven playing field, and has talked about
the focus has now shifted to money over development. I'm
not saying some of that's not fair that there has
been a shift in some of the focus, but that's
my point based on what we were talking about, we
(12:40):
need to have a windshield mentality moving forward. In as
much as we can look at the accomplishments of Nick
Saban and the accolades and everything that he has done,
it's hard to deny that, yes, you would want somebody
with that type of experience, that type of wisdom, yeah,
to help lead this, but you also can't have it
(13:03):
just from one perspective, right. You need the balance of
a little bit more of forward thinking, not to hold
on to this thought of amateurism and protecting student athlete.
Not to say it can't be part of the conversation, sure,
but I just want to make sure that him we're
(13:23):
looking at this through a forward viewing lens, not trying
to hold on to some of the relics of amateurism
that we seem to be grasping at.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Right.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
And I also wonder too, like I see the coaching experience,
and I see everything that he's done for college football
and what he's obviously done there for Alabama, But how
many times have we looked at a player and been like, man,
that guy, such a great player, he'd be a great coach,
And it doesn't translate, and I wonder, I guess he's
a great coach. Is he a great person to run
(13:55):
a committee? To be able to oversee things from that perspective?
To your point, also, you want somebody maybe a little
more progressive.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Is he the right guy?
Speaker 2 (14:05):
And that's why you know, I'm just wondering just from
a perspective leader wise, I don't think there's any question right, right,
But as long as he has the ability to pull
together other individuals, right that might have different opinions, might
have different views, that's what the best leaders do. Oh yeah,
(14:26):
And they're okay if you do have an opposing view,
because that's how things get accomplished, is that you're able
to view it from different perspectives, right, and different vantage points.
And I think that's the big thing that as long
as Nick Saban does that, then I'm okay. But to
have him as the czar of college football, of this
(14:46):
and just that we're going to follow what Nick Saban
believes is the best I don't know if that's the
best scenario as we try to move forward, but you
can join the conversation, right now eight six' four two
four zero five four eight. Zero let's head out to
The engles hotline right, now The Richmond weavers.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Show who's this going?
Speaker 2 (15:03):
On?
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Boys how are? Y'all?
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Neil how are you my? Friend?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Man was that a beat down last night or what rich?
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Woo that was? Ugly? Yes that was you sound? Depressed,
NO i didn't.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Be Now i'm not depressed at, all. SIR i, mean
Obviously i'm A denver fan now because of The. Joker
BUT i will tell you right, now a couple of years,
ago WHEN i think it Was serbia in The United,
STATES i think it was The World championships is one of.
THOSE i came On twitter AND i even came. OUT
i think this was BEFORE i started calling your, show
BUT i was calling a couple others AND i, SAID
i thought the best two players in the world WAS
sga And, joker and not in that. ORDER i OBVIOUSLY
(15:40):
i Think jokers the best player in the. WORLD i
THINK sga is right behind. Him and you, know here's
the thing with. Them they understand the game so. Well
they see that they see the things in front of
them before they, happened and they both understand one aspect
which is sometimes you have to get your teammates involved
(16:00):
and there's other times that you just have to take
over the game, yourself and they both get. That that's
WHERE i Think lebron games is. LACKING i think that
he's always like. THAT i think he's always liked the
killer desire and it's fun to watch. THIS i tell,
You game three is going to be a war BECAUSE i,
think And i've always said, this it's great to blow somebody,
(16:22):
out but to beat them like. THAT i think that's
going to play against ok see in game. Three, now
can they they if they Lose game, three can they
bounce back In game? Four? Obviously. Yes they had the
best record in the league for a. REASON i predicted
them before the. YEAR i got it on My twitter
THAT i thought they were going to win, it AND
i said that the only team THAT i thought they
could beat them would Be. Denver and the REASON i
Thought denver could beat them is Because denver has. Pedigree
(16:45):
they have the best player in the. World they have
another guy In Jamal murray that can also take over
a game at any, point and they've been, there done,
that and they play really well off of each other as.
Well you, know you know you used to coach and play, Basketball,
Rich you know the best teams that are in. Basketball
the best teams are not when they got guys Like,
Dunk luca and And, lebron which they both have to
(17:09):
possess the. Ball the best teams are teams that have
one big. GUY i mean WHEN i say, BIG i
don't mean like seven, FOOT i just mean like one main,
star and then everybody else can play off of those.
Guys so you might have another guy who, can like
A Scottie, pippen who might be able to take over
a game at certain. Points but it's guys that are
just they mesh well. Together and that's What okayse, Has
(17:32):
that's What denver has had for the last couple of.
Years it's gonna be a fun series to. Watch one
QUESTION i, have And i'm going to switch it over
to The Eastern, conference but how does people let Chet
homer and play defense on? Them, like, SERIOUSLY i don't
care how small you. Are, seriously it's. Serious Like Kevin,
DURANT i, mean come, on, dude.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
He DOESN'T i, know you got to give him that
he does have linked and that could just be imposing
just for a just for a quick sec and that's
all that takes is a quick second to allow some
to somebody to. Recover BUT i know exactly what you're talking.
About you should just go right into the chest of
chet holmerim because he's not going to be able to stop.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Yet the lack of chess is what we should. Say
right into the skeleton of Chet holm is what we should.
Say but switching over to The Eastern, CONFERENCE i think
The Western. CONFERENCE i said it, BEFORE i think The
Western conferences is by far the better. Conference but with
that being, said how do you choke away to twenty
point leads that late in the third quarter if you're
(18:30):
the if you're The Boston. Celtics, NOW i don't think
that series is. OVER i don't Know walton has degree as.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Well, yeah, no, YEAH i don't think it's over, Either,
neil BECAUSE i think there's something also That boston has been,
there so they've been through. That, uh the red light
is on the pressure situations and getting over the hump
to win AN nba, championship and The knicks. Haven't so
it'll be interesting to see how The knicks now they're
(18:59):
still quote unquote the, Underdog.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Neill but when you're up to to oh and you
go back To New.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
York now it's almost, like, Okay, nicks you should win
now you're at.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Home but that adds maybe a little bit more pressure
on The.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Knicks you, KNOW i saw. SOMETHING i don't know if
you were watching it on if you had already went
To better or, not because The okac game was over by,
halftime let's be. Honest and SO i BUT i was
Watching inside THE, nba WHICH i think is the best
show ON, tv And shack said. Something he was, Like
game three Is he's, like as crazy as this soulms
game three as a must win for The, knicks AND
(19:32):
i one agree with, that because the last thing you
want to do is get. Tight you don't want the
Right boston go Into New york Win game three and
now they know all they have to do now is
even a, series and they have home court advantage back
again even after all. That SO i think it's a
big game for The. Knicks and you, know this is the.
Thing i'm going to go ahead and make a prediction right.
(19:53):
NOW i THINK sga AND i Think. Joker, Well i'm
going to make a bigger prediction For. JOKER i THINK
sga at the end of the. DAY i think he
is going to be at the end when he, retires
if he stays healthy enough long, ENOUGH i think he's
going to be talked about in the top fifteen players
of all. TIME i Think joker is going to be
talked about as the greatest center of all. Time and
(20:15):
this is the, Thing And i'll take this off the,
air AND i want to get your opinion on, this
Because i've never really heard you talk about. This is
it just? Me or Is Jason tatum the most overrated
quote unquote superstar that ever played the? Game BECAUSE i,
mean people just want to throw him out there and
throw him out there and throw him out, there and
it's like he doesn't get. It first of, ALL i
(20:35):
don't think he has killer. Instinct second of, all why
do you keep jacking up? Threes AND i know he
went to the whole, late which you know that was
what he's supposed to do because nobody can stop, Him
but why do you keep jacking up threes if you're a.
Superstar this is the same problem THAT i have With.
Lebron nobody can stop, you, Dude so why are you
jacking up? Threes at the end if you're down by
three and there's ten.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Seconds that's, Okay, yeah that's.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Right, yes it's a different. Situation So i'm going to
take off the. Air but and it's not THAT i
don't Like Jason. TATUM i think he carries himself really.
WELL i think he seems like a nice guy off the.
Court you, know he's never been in. Trouble he never
he you, know he's not like the guy For. Memphis
BUT i just don't understand why people always constantly AND
i guess it's because we're looking for the next great.
One but to, me we already have. Them they're both
(21:17):
in The Western, conference and this is what makes basketball.
GREAT i can't, watch he can't wait to. WATCH i
think it's gonna probably go. SIX i Think denver's gonna
beat them now BECAUSE i Think, denver even THOUGH i
Picked Oklahoma city to win the whole thing this, YEAR
i Think denver is still In game one the way they,
did even though they bounced back and got their brains
beating last. NIGHT i Think denver's gonna find a way
to kind of repay them for what they did last
(21:39):
night In game, three and THEN i think he comes
down To game, Four whover Wins game, four AND i
think it's gonna Be. DENVER i think homefield the vantage
is going to be the. DIFFERENCE i think Having joker
is gonna be the. Difference but, Anyways i'll take it
off the. AIR i appreciate, It. Rich i'll have a go, Week.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Budd thank You.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Neil have you ever heard it right? There neil's going
with The. Nuggets, Yes Ken jokic can he be that?
Guy AND i tell you right, NOW i will talk
talcome more About Jason.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Tatum but This denver series AGAINST.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Okc IF okc moves the ball the way they did
in the shot selection they had In game, two it
will be very difficult for The nuggets to win this.
Series okasee had eleven assists in the first quarter last,
night where they had twelve in the entire second half
Of game. One not good ball movement there in that
(22:27):
first game and the shot selection was not. Good but
in that game last.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Night different. Story all.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Right when we come, back it will be time to
talk some golf inside The ropes driven by THE bmw
charity prom presented by td CENT, x as we will
be talking With Corn Ferry Tour Pro Bryson. Nimmer right after,
this The thursday edition of The Richmond Weavers, show presented
By Ingles markets continues right here on one oh four
(22:55):
Nine Fox Sports. Upstate and if It's, thursday that means
we're talking a little bit of.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Golf from the fairways to the. Headlights it's inside the.
Ropes driven by THE Bmw Charity program presented by TD,
Sinas you're all access pass to golf's biggest needs and best.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Moments all, right we are excited to have joining us right,
Now Corn Fairy tour pro and Former clemson Golfer Bryson
nemmer coming off of his First Corn Fairy tour victory
In mexico at The Tuloom championship and it was A
nailbier And bryson can't thank you. Enough but my first
(23:36):
QUESTION i have to ask has your phone stopped blowing
up from getting all the text messages and calls from
everybody celebrating the big victory with.
Speaker 6 (23:46):
You i've gotten a. Ton i'm not quite all the
way through all the text messages and emails and, everything
but just super exciting and trying to get into all of.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Them it's probably going to take you a little bit of.
Time but you do have a little bit of time
right now just to almost relish the. Victory AND i
do have to ask, you, THOUGH i want you to
walk us back through the ending of that event down
there In. Mexico and AS i, mentioned Nail, BIDER i,
mean you had to burdy the eighteenth to force a.
(24:17):
Playoff And stuart, McDonald he wasn't going. Away he was
making some hell of a. Shot, Bryce and so tell
me your thoughts the last few minutes and being able
to have to go out there and regain your composure
in the.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
Playoff, yeah just a, wild wild finished through the off.
TOURNAMENT i, think you, know it's just a fans dream to.
WATCH i think it was some crazy stuff, happening really good,
Golf and you, know a lot of credit To. STEWART i,
MEAN i birdied, eighteen THOUGHT i won the golf, tournament
(24:51):
walk out of the scoring area and just hear the
grand stand by and eighteen go nuts and he had
hold a shot from one hundred.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Yards, YEAH i.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Mean and just wild and two whole, playoffs a lot
of drama and got the job done on the second.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
One and you, know people talk about golf might not
have some of the excitement as you see in action
sports with, football, basketball things of that. Nature but there's still,
excitement there's still, drama AND i think you lived some
of that right. There so how do you stay in
the moment and making sure not to let the moment overwhelm?
Speaker 6 (25:30):
You, DEFINITELY i think you just have to take it
for what it. Is you, know it's anything can. HAPPEN i,
mean it's an outdoor sport and in any given, moment
crazy things. Happen AND i THINK i just right before
the playoffs kind of just told, myself you, know you
did everything you were supposed to. Do, yeah and you
know you were the one that had all the momentum
(25:51):
there at the, end so might as well take that
into the. Playoffs and it, was you, know it was
a great battle because you, know we both had a
lot of momentum BECAUSE i birdied, eighteen he.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Hold out For.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
Bertie so it was a very exciting and.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Action pack in.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
It that's What i'm.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Saying there was a lot of action right there the
final moments of that.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Tournament how was it?
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Though also though having your mom walking the entire course,
BASICALLY i, mean did you get a chance to you,
know look over there and see your, mom just knowing
that you had that type of.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Support, YEAH i saw her the whole. Day she didn't
miss a single. Shot my mom and dad were both out.
There she was a little more. Nervous he only he
only watched a few shots here and. There but it's
just so cool to have them. THERE i, mean all
the time and money and effort and all that that
they've put into my golf, career and to have them
(26:42):
with me my first Corn Ferry tour, victories JUST i
could never ask for, more no.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Question Corn Fairy tour pro and Former clemson Golfer Bryson
nimmer is joining us here For inside The ropes presented
by are driven by.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
THE bmw charity program presented BY.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Tdx and you just mentioned your dad and your mom,
obviously and how fitting that we're getting ready to Celebrate
Mother's day that she was able to walk the course
with you during that. Tournament but your, Dad tony played At,
clemson you, know all acc, golfer just like. Yourself how
special is that knowing that you followed your the footsteps
(27:23):
of your dad going To clemson.
Speaker 6 (27:25):
Just so. Cool just a lot of family history At,
clemson and just to have the opportunity to, compete you,
know at the same university and trying to break a
few of the records that himself and some former teammates
had was a really really fun thing to. Do and
(27:48):
also getting to play under Coach penley. Here, yes my
dad played under and played with so just a super cool.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Experience, yeah and, now when was the first time you
beat your? Dad i'm assuming that you have beaten your, Dad, BRYSON.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
I.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Have it took me a. While i'm not gonna. LIE
i think that's what made me become as good AS
i was was just you, know as a, kid you
so badly want to beat your. Dad AND i think
it was probably twelve, thirteen fourteen somewhere in there BEFORE
i ever beat. HIM i, mean he was, good, like,
yeah he was going out shooting sixty five and sixty
(28:27):
six every, day And i'm, like it's just, unbelievable no.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Doubt all. Right so but here's the.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Question IF i asked your dad, this if Asked tony,
this would he, say, oh, well, yeah he beat. Me
but give me a wink and, say, well you know
that's what dads do at. Times they let their son beat,
them just to give them some.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
Confidence he'd definitely say, that he'd tell you that he'd
let me win BECAUSE i was getting too.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
PITIFUL i love, IT i love it all.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Right, so but when you had the opportunity to choose a,
school was there any other? CHOICES i, mean was it
automatic that because your dad played At clemson that you
wanted to go To clemson as? Well or were you
allowed to kind of follow your own path and it
just happened to end At.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Clemson they my parents were so good about not really forcing.
Anything they you, know they both wanted me to be
happy and pick the PLACE i wanted to. Be SO
i did look at other, schools and you, KNOW i
think my heart was always With clemson and always wanted
to be. There but, YEAH i was kind of a
late blamer with golf and didn't really have as great
(29:37):
of an offer From clemson AS i had from some other.
Schools so it was a tough. Decision and, yeah you,
know there at the, end you, KNOW i just realized
THAT i wanted TO i wanted to go to the
same school and a lot of my family had gone
to AND i Just i've always Loved. CLEMSON I i'm
a Huge clemson football, fan and it just it worked,
out and it's the best DECISION i ever.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Made, yeah he Is Corn Ferry tour pro and Former
clemson Golfer Bryson Nimmer, Well, rison you couldn't have picked
a better time to be At clemson if you're A
clemson football.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Fan that was. Special what was that?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Like being on campus as and being part of the
athletic department and seeing the success of the football.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Team it was just. Incredible it had such a trickle
down effect to all of. Us you, Know it's just
there was a different energy in the athletic, buildings the.
Gym it was just, like you, know we were all
kind of held to a higher standard those four. Years
AND i attributed a lot of my success and a
(30:39):
lot of my team and teammate success to the fact,
that you, know the football program was out there doing
what they were, doing and we all wanted to do.
That so just incredible four. YEARS i, mean a couple
of years With DeShawn, there a couple of years With
trevor and just all the, many many talents that we
had come through those, doors and it was just so
(31:00):
much fun and so so fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
YEAH i mean it was a pinnacle in terms of
at that era For clemson. Football no question from that,
standpoint did you ever Get? Dabbo did you ever get
him out on the golf?
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Course, no we.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
Never we never got to get out and. Play he came,
over he'd hit balls with us a couple of, times
and he gave us a couple of motivational talks before
we went Inn CAA's a couple of. Times we never
got to. Play but just a great. Guy AND i
Mean i'm a Huge dabo.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Fan, Yeah and you, KNOW i think there's something to
be said when you can See Dabo sweeney there on
the football, side AND i would even say it With
Brad brunnell on the basketball, SIDE i know he doesn't,
get you, know the same type of attention because his
personality is different Than. Dabbo but even also on the golf, Side,
BRYSON i don't know if people really understand just the
(31:50):
impact Of Larry penley not only On clemson, golf but
also amateur golf here in the state Of South carolina
and just golf in. General just the career he had
and the success that he had there At. Clemson talk
about your experience Under Larry penley.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
Just. Incredible he was far and above ANYTHING i could
have ever asked for in college. Coach you, know he
was so good to us as players and just you,
Know i'm so lucky THAT i got all four years
with him and got to spend time THAT i did with.
Him we had a great. Time he you, know taught
me a lot of stuff and just had a really
(32:30):
simple and you, know put together coaching style that just
worked for. YEARS i mean that's why he had the
success that he. Had and it was just so. Cool you,
know he never he never really forced anything on you
as far as like. Coaching it was just like he
wanted you to be the best that you could be
and you could see it and it just came across
(32:54):
so perfectly and it made all of us get.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Better, yeah he is a great.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Individual i've been able to spend a little bit of
time with him him and got connected with him through Timber,
ray who obviously you, know And Charles warren For clemson golfer.
Also but you did your own number, there twenty eight
top ten finishes and four tournament wins your senior, Year
so you had a fantastic career Under Larry. Penley BUT
(33:19):
i want to transition as you transitioned from a collegiate
golfer to a pro golfer and talk about the, difference
because we talk about it like moving in football from
college football to THE nfl and then you, know college
basketball to THE, nba and just how different of a
game it. Is what about from the golf, side how
(33:40):
more challenging or how different is it from collegiate golf
to now grinding it out as you're doing on professional.
Speaker 6 (33:47):
Tour it's a big, CHANGE i think at every. LEVEL i,
think you, know you start out in junior golf and
you reached that pinnacle and you get to be one
of the best junior, players and then you get to
college and you got to do it all over. Again
the talent level just continues to, rise AND i think
(34:09):
pro goff's the. Same it's just you, know it's the
best college. Players so now you, know you got to
rise to the top. Again and it's taken me time
at each. LEVEL i didn't have immediate success at any
of the, levels BUT i Think i'm finally kind of
getting that footing THAT i needed and my game is
(34:30):
where it needs to.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Be, yeah when you say your game is where it
needs to. Be what does that?
Speaker 6 (34:35):
Mean JUST i think managing myself on a golf. Course
i've always hit the ball really. Well i've always kind
of done the intangibles that needed to be done to
win golf. Tournaments it's just knowing when to be, aggressive
when not to be, aggressive course, management and then just you,
(34:56):
know the mental side of the game of just you,
know always being confident in what you do and having
the routines to make you successful in. Tournaments.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Yeah and now moving, Forward bryce in terms of, schedule
no tournament this, weekend but The Advent Health championship coming,
Up so what does your week look like this week being?
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Off but then are you.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Already scheduled out for the previous upcoming event or the upcoming?
Events are you already scheduled?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Out?
Speaker 6 (35:32):
Yeah So i'm in for the rest of the year,
now which is. Awesome, yeah definitely going to be playing
as much AS i. Can and we got a long
stretch coming up of like six in a, row So
i'm actually not touching the club this week at, all
And i'm going to try to get some recovery and
actually out here back home working out at our family.
(35:54):
Farm for the. Week so just trying to keep things
the same as they were. Before.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
One, okay, yes when you say working at the family,
FARM i, know the turf, industry that you're in the family.
Business what does that look like when you say Working, yeah.
Speaker 6 (36:11):
JUST i, Mean i've really come to enjoy it the
last three or four months, been you, know back. Home
i've kind of started to learn some of what my
dad and uncle have been doing their whole. Lives and
it's really cool to see and they you, know it's
anything from plowing and harvesting and shipping grass and you,
know just all kinds of. Stuff and it's wild because you,
(36:34):
know everybody laughs because they're, like you, know you're a,
golfer you're not a, farmer BUT i feel like you
can do.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Both got to get your hands, DIRTY i guess. Right that's.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Right that's. Fun, oh that's.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Fantastic he Is Bryson, Nimmer Corn Fairy tour pro and
Former clemson, golfer joining us here as he's coming off
of his First Corn Fairy tour victory down In, mexico
The Tuloom. Championship All, Right, brice and another thing that's
coming up here in The upstate is THE bmw charity
program presented BY td Sent x the first week Of.
(37:09):
June and So i'm presuming you're playing in this coming
back to The?
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Upstate is that? CORRECT i.
Speaker 6 (37:15):
AM i will be. THERE i wouldn't miss it for the.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
World, Yeah so talk about this.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
EVENT i know you've played in it before and it's
a unique event with the amateurs and celebrities that can.
Play but your feelings as far as what this, is you,
know and how important it is here in The upstate
that The Corn Fairy tour does have a stop here
in The Greenville it's just.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
AWESOME i think it's it's a wonderful event and just
a really unique. ONE i think having the pro am
portion of it is really, cool and the celebrities come into,
town and obviously you know everything THAT bmw does for
The upstate and you know just the impact that they
have on the. COMMUNITY i think it's just really cool
(37:58):
that they have an event like that in the first,
place and you know that we get the opportunity to
be in The greenville, area and it's just really special
to me because you, KNOW i spent for the best
years of my life up, there so really excited to come.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Back, yes, well we're excited to have.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
YOU i know we're gonna be doing several things out,
there so definitely look forward to meeting you in, person
shaking your. Hand AND i do have to ask you
a question, though in terms of if you could play
with any, celebrity who would it.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Be, oh that's a tough. ONE i actually heard the
list the other day of about ten of, them AND
i think a few of the good ONE a couple
of the football. Players you, Know i've always loved, Football
So Jermaine, curse they used to play for The. EAGLES
(38:48):
i always loved him growing. Up And Steve, smith the
wide receiver for The.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
Panthers The, Panthers, yes that was a big.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
ONE i mean those guys were just so good back
in the.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Day, again that's a different type of, level AND i
know that's what you're striving. For and you are moving
up the standings there and trying.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
To get YOUR Pga tour.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Card sixteenth on The Corn Faerry tour standings right, now
so you are in that top, Twenty so best of
luck to stay in that top. Twenty, bryson AND i
can't thank you enough for joining us, here and LIKE i,
SAID i look forward to shaking your hand at THE
bmw Charity program presented BY Td sinex in just a few.
Speaker 6 (39:23):
Weeks, sir thank, you RICH i really appreciate you having
me Go.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Tigers yes, it thank you so.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Much, bryson and that Is bryson Nimmer Corn Fairy tour
pro and Former clemson.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Golfer just a fantastic. Individual uh and just low.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Key trey just has that type of demeanor that you
know is does it get too?
Speaker 3 (39:45):
High does it get too?
Speaker 6 (39:46):
Low?
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Right at least you can hear it in his, voice you,
know but it's one of those things that come competition,
time it. Switches you, know It's i'm going out there to.
Win and you might not necessary hear it in their
voices from that, perspective but that's what makes these golfers
(40:07):
that can compete at these levels and can can go
win tournaments and rise up these leader boards and you
know the point lists and all of.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
That you've got to have a little bit of that you.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
Do and those are the type of players that are
really dangerous to like from a like a competition, standpoint
because it's easy TO i guess it's not, easy but
there tends to be a tendency of, like oh, well,
wow all, right this guy like he doesn't kind of
comes across like he doesn't seem like he has that killer.
Mentality so it's easy to kind of overlook. Him if
you're the, competition you look at it, like OH i
(40:38):
could take, him, yes until he gets out until the,
horse and then you're, like, oh, okay this is a
totally different guy than Who i've.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Met shook his hand.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Exactly it is kill or be killed out there on
