Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, and welcome to IECH forty two hundred Foundations
of Information Security. You are listening to the first episode
of the Security Brief, the official podcast for our course.
You see the headlines every day, another major company hacked,
millions of user records stolen from those massive data breaches
to that suspicious email sitting in your own inbox. Where

(00:21):
surrounded by digital threats, have you ever wondered what it
takes to defend against them? That ongoing battle between attackers
and defenders is the world of information security, and it's
exactly what we're here to explore. Over the next few weeks,
we're going to pull back the curtain on the world
of cybersecurity. We'll investigate the tactics attackers use, from malware

(00:41):
and phishing to social engineering, and more importantly, we'll learn
the fundamental principles and technologies used to build a strong defense.
Our goal is to equip you with the foundational knowledge
to identify threats and protect critical information. This course is
structured a bit differently. Instead of a tradition weekly lecture,
this podcast will be our primary guide. We're using this

(01:04):
format because it offers you the flexibility to learn when
and where it's best for you. You can listen on
your commute at the gym, or simply pause and rewind
whenever a concept needs a second pass. Now let's talk
about our course materials. This course does not use a
traditional textbook. Instead, all of our hands on labs, simulations
and learning resources will be delivered through an online platform

(01:26):
called test out Security Pro. This platform is where you'll
apply the concepts we discuss here in the podcast. Your
instructor will provide you with the information needed for this material,
so please check for an email or an announcement on
our course page with those specific instructions. So your first
step is to head over to D two L and
carefully review the course syllabus. It has everything you need

(01:48):
to know about our schedule and assignments. Once you've done that,
you'll be ready to jump into our first content episode.
I'm genuinely looking forward to exploring this material with you.
Have a great semester.
