I guarantee you polict makeup.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I mean, yeah, we don't tell them anybody watching on YouTube,
but you need to watch this on YouTube because you
won't get the full effect unless you see our haunted
you know, lovely studio and the incredible makeup and costuming
and hair.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
That's how I've always known YouTube. But let me introduce.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
We got Karen and Ashland Pixler, also known as D's
We Won't Finish the rest and Laughy Taffy and you
can find them at chuckles and y'all have been here
for a few years, right, So how long have you
been working here at Scary Way?

Speaker 6 (01:49):
This is my third year, third year, this is my
fourth year.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Fourth year. And what's the best part.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Obviously you guys have the same last name, so mother daughter, Yes,
and you are not just working here, you're traveling.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
We are.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
We're driving from Boise every weekend so that we can hant.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
I mean that says a lot. I think that says
a lot. So you must really enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
But it didn't always start that way.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Right, No, the first year I was living here, living here,
and so we haunted. And then I moved to Boise,
so I came up and stayed and stayed at Ashland
and we haunted, and now she lives down there, so
we're just driving up every weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, weekend.

Speaker 7 (02:28):
Yeah, we really wanted to find a way to do
it this year, and so we wake up really early
on Fridays, drive down and drive back on Mondays.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
That's insane, insane, like, oh my gosh, that's such a Yeah,
drive isn't exactly like enjoyable, so you're making the most
of it.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
So that's you must really really love. Yeah, it here,
which was great.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
But so Ashley, did you start where did you start
in four years ago? Chuckles chuckles, Okay, that's what I thought,
And so how did you convince your mom to come
and work here?

Speaker 7 (03:02):
I think it started out I needed a ride to work,
but I don't know. It was just really fun and
I thought that she would like it too, So yeah,
I was terrified, which yeah, before you got here.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
That Okay, we're just going to sup. The skip to
this question was your favor your biggest fear.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
The dark and scary things. I don't like Halloween.

Speaker 6 (03:22):
I don't I'm not into.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
The scare anything, so, which is so opposite, Like whenever
we're doing auditions, it's always like, why do you want
to work scary wood?

Speaker 3 (03:30):
It's always like Halloween's my favorite alday?

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Opposite for you, But then you got your taste of scary.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
Yes, it's a whole different adrenaline, like to scare people.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
And you were saying you were in the call center
here for a little bit.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Yeah, I worked in the call center for two years,
and my deal for working up there was like I
have to be off before all the scary wood actors
get here because I didn't want anything to do with it.

Speaker 6 (03:51):
I don't want to hear in the darkst one. Now
I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Oh, how things can change.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Things can change, and Ashlynd you're not super fond of Yeah,
I was.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
Scared to work here too, but I think once like
getting here and being around all the other actors, it
definitely helps. Well.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I have to say too about chuckles. You guys as
family Yeah, oh yeah, so close to fun.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It's it's incredible. I mean, y'all move in unison.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I watch you during notes and I'm like, this is
like one.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
And started because they were making fun of me in
order to like just like keep my body circulating moving.
I always sway when I'm standing still, and so then
they started making fun of me like we're just going
to make this copiter.

Speaker 7 (04:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
For those who are like trying to picture this, they
basically all lock arms and they sway back and forth together,
back and forth.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I'm trying to talk.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, but it's kind of mesmerizing. That's the first thing
I noticed when I so last season was my first
season a scarywod and I noticed you guys, Like it
was like, wow, this is a family.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
They are just like what we are.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
They actually hang out throughout the year too.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
Do you get together and go to Denny's or we'll
get together and go bowling.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
We've done karaoke, so do you dress up for that? No,
some of them do. I would love to see I
do come in just my regular.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
And what was the one thing last year somebody told
me something. You guys are in a group text, right.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
We have like a discord and all all the postagrams.

Speaker 7 (05:28):
Yeah, it's pretty wild in there.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
It just goes to show what a family it truly is.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
And I think more than anything, Chuckles is like the
epitome of family.

Speaker 7 (05:37):
Yeah we are.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
And we have people that like are working other homes,
so like, hey, I'm want to work.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
In Chuckles next year because they see that and that's
that's really cool.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
So like how did that all start?

Speaker 4 (05:46):
Because we didn't really do much to like bring that
forth as far as like your haunt goes.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
What my attitude for work is, if I'm going to
do it, I want to love it. Like if I'm
if I'm doing a job, I don't like I need
to find something else. And so I am I'm the
oldest clown in the hall outs surprisingly, but I was
just like, let I mean, we should all get along
and be friends. So my goal every year is I'm
going to get to know every clown I'm working with
and make them feel important.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
And so we work on that together.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
We you know, I feel you were a big part
of being the center of that family tree, honestly.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
So yeah, it makes it fun.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
It makes me excited to come back every year and
see my little clown family.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
And yeah, and can I just say, I was going
through the pictures from last year, like, you take some
great photos too. By the way, I've been utilizing some
of your photos for some of our online stuff in
our blogs because that was my.

Speaker 6 (06:36):
Right regrets after the first year.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
I was like, I didn't take into photos the first year,
So now take some great photos.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
Take photos every night.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah. Yeah, one of the family, they're all looking down
and they took them.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
Straight out of chuckles.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, so when you're not, like, say, in the off season,
what do you guys do?

Speaker 5 (06:53):
I have two jobs in the off season. Okay, so
I am a preschool teacher.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
A preschool teacher is moonlighting, as I love it.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
I work in special education preschool right now, I'm Boise.
I've been a preschool teacher for a long time. And
then in the summers, I travel with a drum and
bugle corps. So I travel for nine weeks all over
the country on sleeping in schools and it's it's great.
I'm their merchandising manager, so I design and sell all
of their merchandise.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Okay, that's amazing.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
And I get to do that with Asheland too.

Speaker 7 (07:22):
Yeah. Yeah, So normally I work at Walgreens during the year,
and then during the summer I travel with them and
I'm their social media manager and I do photography for
them too.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
So yeah, so you're both under the picture doesn't take Yeah, yes, yeah,
I do.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Like the bottom line is, you guys just don't want
to be in Boisy.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
You just need to move back.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
I mean, like technical, I'm kind of an empty nester.
My youngest graduated from high school. So I'm like, I'm
still young. It's time to do things that are fun
and enjoyable while I still don't.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Yeah, do your preschoolers know what you do in October?

Speaker 6 (07:55):
Yes, most of them do.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
So my my screensaver on my phone is me as
a clown and my watch, so they always see it
and they always ask, They're like, miss Karen, what is that.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
I'm like, Oh, that's me.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
That's that's I dress up like for Halloween and so.
And my nephew, who's three, is obsessed with clown pictures
and because since you know, he was like a year old,
he's been seeing me like in cl pictures and he
loves it when I FaceTime him once I get into makeup.
So I mean, I'm hoping that I'm raising a generation
of people.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
That maybe family.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
We have more pictures, is terrified of clowns really even Yeah,
he says he's getting used to it because I'll FaceTime him.
And I like started after working in Chuckles, I like
started collecting like little clown figurine ham from like their stores.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeh.

Speaker 7 (08:47):
And he hates it. And they're in our living room
I have like moving around the house.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Yeah, he hates.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
It, but he's still going to marry her.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
Maybe I'm like, can we make clowns for Halloween?

Speaker 1 (08:57):
He's like tell him this, It's the best way to
get over your fear.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Afraid of clowns.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah, definitely afraid of clowns.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
I mean I just fe I became a clown, and
now I love clowns. And now i walk by the
hanging clowns and I'm like, hey, Buddy's like, oh, that's
my dead boyfriend. And now the fear of clowns is gone,
because I think I was afraid of what I was
kind of almost repressing of being, you know, taking off

(09:28):
that mask, putting on that mask, and that once I
was a clown, I realized.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
This is actually who I am. I can be weird
and crazy and fun and childish.

Speaker 7 (09:40):
Get to just see whoever you want to be exactly.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
I mean, when your favorite serial killer is a clown,
like you just.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Exactly it is.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know, Yeah, what's yours favorite place inside of chuckles
to scare?

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (09:55):
My favorite is behind the mirror in the wardrobe. Like
I love that spot so much, but I don't like
to be there by myself.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
I like to tag team with somebody.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
Yeah, I feel like I'm definitely more of a distractor
than a scarer. That's just who I am, and so
I love to get that distraction and in that spot
so much distraction, scared, distraction, scared, you can get people
over and over.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Yeah, so definitely my wardrobe scary.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Yeah. Yeah, I think my favorite spot is the drop
panel on ice cream that attaches to the Freak Show
hallway because especially when it's a super busy night and
there's like a conga, you can just go back and
forth between the two and you never have to like
take a break. Yeah, you just go back and forth
because by the time you've done the one, you're ready
to do the other. So it just it keeps me
busy all night. There's usually someone else around me. And
it was my very first spot ever too, So I've

(10:40):
got a little soft spot for U.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
So, outside of Chuckles, what's your favorite hunt right now?

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Obviously we know Chuckles is number one, So beyond that,
what's your favorite US wine?

Speaker 7 (10:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Yeah, for sure, wine is so scary. This guy you
like knocked it out.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
It's terrifying.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Yeah, it's absolutely It's everything wanted it to be working.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Honestly, it's incredible.

Speaker 6 (11:04):
It's the Gillies.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
The Gillies.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
Dresses up like a gilly and it makes you say
the bad words appropriate exactly exactly.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
And you were saying your biggest phobia is technically the
swine right now, Yeah, telling.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Me that off, we love that's great, absolutely, but yeah,
the wolves and all the things.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
So what would you say is your favorite part of
working at Scarywood, Like, if you could choose just one thing, I.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Think it's like just getting to know everybody, not just
in the in the three D Haunt, everybody, Like I've
gotten to know so many people, And when I first
came out here, I was just like, this is a
whole new group of like weird, but I love it.
It's way outside of like my norm and what I
would do. But like for this time of the year,

(12:04):
I love to just like, yeah.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
Channel might inner weird and get to know everybody.

Speaker 7 (12:10):
You really just get to be whoever you want to
be here and there's no judgment.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Right now, everyone is.

Speaker 7 (12:14):
Doing the same thing, Like yeah, it's really good.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, it's the best thing.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Just working with your mom, what's that like.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Yeah, it's fun. We get to we get to talk
a lot about like everything that's going on, like in
our car ride, So that's.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah, that's probably very true.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
It's a little crazy.

Speaker 7 (12:35):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
I have to say that travel this year.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
It's probably my husband probably likes it because before we
would get home and then he would just hear it.

Speaker 6 (12:42):
We would just dump and like all the things. But
now we have you know, that seven hour ride home.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
You know, I go home, so I love it. Well,
how about everything else here? It's scary?

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Would what would you say your favorite? Like, have you
tried any of the food?

Speaker 6 (12:57):
No, I've never been as a guest.

Speaker 7 (12:58):
Yeah, I mean neither.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
You need to get them through as a guest.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Well, they're working, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
I am. I I took a day off. You did the.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
First Okay, you gotta try all the things.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
I'm bringing that food and bring it home.

Speaker 7 (13:11):
I'm bringing my fiance. He's going to drive with us,
and I'm going to take him so that I can
watch him get scared, because I'm gonna be dissensitized.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Hopefully I'm going to say, yeah, for sure, when you
bring him through that for the first time, it's going
to be really good. What about do you guys have
a specific like outside of the clown's favorite monster.

Speaker 6 (13:33):
Oh, I don't know, because I don't.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Do scary things. So in the park, in the park,
maybe warming during notes or something.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Well, Chucky's got a tough spot in my heart because
we're like the same size. We're just we're can be
little together, although there are some other people that are
little with us this year too.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
It's great.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Yeah, so, but no, he's terrifying too, even though I
know what he's going to do and I know he's there.

Speaker 6 (13:57):
Oh every time.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, he's great.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
Gets me every time?

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Me too, Me too? How about you, Ashley.

Speaker 7 (14:01):
I don't know about a specific monster, but the sliders get.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Me every time.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Yeah, I hate them.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yeah, seriously, it's the sparks and they're just all of
a sudden there.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
You can hear them before they come.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, no, the fingernails on. I can't with the sliders,
yeah for sure.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
What else? Any other questions?

Speaker 8 (14:19):
You get to know them? I I don't like. No, No,
I think not no, I truly though. I mean they've
they've been here for a while. I think you guys
have a really cool story with that.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
People that don't really understand the culture behind scary Wood
and just that it is truly a family, even though
when you come it's like you have all these scares
and all these spots that you're going to, but you
don't realize like the people behind the paint or the
masks or whatever. It's a three hundred and sixty five
days a year family that just keeps growing.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Yeah. Can I ask one more question?

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (14:56):
How long does it take you guys to get ready?
Like do you do your hair before you get to
the part?

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (15:00):
Okay, So we leave on Friday mornings.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
We leave about six thirty, we see time, and we
get up here about twelve thirty okay, and then we
immediately start doing our hair.

Speaker 6 (15:12):
So it's usually about an hour ish to.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Get okay and oh wow, it depends on the do
you keep it in all weekend.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
To do that?

Speaker 5 (15:23):
We are a go home after this and shower, I
get as clean as we can because.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
People don't realize how sweaty you get out there.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Even hard work.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
You got to get the rest of the makeup off
and everything.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
So we redo the hair every day and then you know,
we have an hour drive out here too from where
we're staying, So then we drive out.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
And it's it's it's literally just put the miles on. Yeah,
rash hair so dedicated.

Speaker 6 (15:49):
You're giving a gas card away.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
I'm like, okay, well I'll keep that.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Yeah. So all right, everybody come out to shuckles.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Make sure to look for these two. Well, they'll be
looking for you. Actually they're hungry, So come come join
us and hopefully we'll see you guys next season as well.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Right. Oh ye awesome, that's what I like to hear.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
