you said the sheriff's bringing him in.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
That's true enough.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
But the way I understand that, the possei just sort
of stumbled onto the kid, that's what they say. He
was laying in a grove by sycamores or over by
Tenderfut Creek.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Dead.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
No, no, no.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
But but he'd been shot up, some bullet in his
belly must have been hit at close range. He was
still out cold when it went. When they went past
my place, where spude say, who'shunt him? And left him
laying Now they just don't seem to know Ali Well.
He was in mighty good health when he rode out
of here yesterday, caught up twenty five hundred dollars from
my bank board man.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Your money was still on him.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
No need forget to worry about it.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yes, good morning, m throwing.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
Why I thought they called him something else?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Uh some kind.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Of kids, that's right, the Wyoming kid. Yeah, well his
real name is Wyat King.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Oh don't you ever read them reward?

Speaker 5 (03:31):
Notice he's down to the point, but I just don't

He's being captured, You don't say.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yes, They sure have found him down at tenor Foot Creek.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
He was all shut up. The darnest thing is nobody
knows who who shot him.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Was so peculiar about that?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Well in the first place, a fellow who done it,
he's stand to collect the money.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Nice reward. All them hold ups kings full. Well, there
must be at least.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Five thousand dollars offered for him.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
Did her alive? Why?

Speaker 5 (04:00):
My that sure there's a lot of money. Well I
better get over to my desk and start working on
the holly.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
That ain't the only strange thing about this here business.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
What are you driving?

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Well? I told you the kid had.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Been shot at a close range. That means somebody met
up with him face to face. He wasn't dry ulster,
nothing like that. Yeah, yeah, see what you mean. It
would take a mighty big man to stand up the
lion king and my fast man out drawing. Yeah, he
was supposed to be lightning gunfighter.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
There's about ten graves. I'll testified a lot.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
He sure ain't nobody around here well east ways, I
can't think of anybody you may, No, can't, not a
single solitary soul. I've been racking my brain ever since then. Yeah,
heard what had happened?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Uh marta giants? Yeah, sir, what can I do for you?

Speaker 6 (04:58):
You're a backer, that's right.

Mister name is ponct Brett Ponson.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Where pleased to meet you, mister punshit, I'm unable.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Rowy holly, I got a little shock here.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
I was wanting to ask you, did you say, Britt Ponsett?

Speaker 2 (05:11):
That's right?

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Well, I'll be done.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Gone on, man, Why why he's a six shooter?

Speaker 4 (05:16):
I he a six shooter? Ain't that right, mister Poton?

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Well?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I sometimes I guess folks call him yeah there, Well,
what did I tell you?

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Wellsir, I guess we don't have to do no more
wondering about who shot.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Up White King.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Well, sir, we're all mighty grateful, mister Punson.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Hold on, if we didn't know you was.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
In these parts, we wouldn't have had no doubts in
the first place. No, sir, fright eight on folly where
you're the fellow who shot it out with the King
last night?

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Ain't you?

Speaker 6 (05:41):
But it must have been you couldn't been nobody?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Why of course it was him? I he There ain't
no doubt about it. I said, I would take a
fast man to out.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Draw the kid.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Well, the six shooter just about the fastest man on
western Mississippi.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
From the way I hear, well, that's whitey flattering. But
as far as I've drawn White cag Well, I wouldn't
know about that, sins How we never met up, never
made You mean you didn't recognize him last night last night?

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Well, whatever it was, you shot him.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Now, Now let's get this straight. Jane. So I didn't
shoot Wyat King last night or any other time. I've
never laid eyes on him. Well, if it wasn't you then,
and who did do it, I sure wouldn't know. I
sure wouldn't know. I rode down the trail from Fort Drexel.
I didn't see any sign of Wired King or anybody else.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Tenderfoot creaks just off that trail, is that's all? Well,
mister Bunsen says he didn't do it, I guess he didn't. Yeah,
Oh wait a minute, sure, why didn't I think of
it before?

Speaker 5 (06:45):
I think it was?

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Everybody knows if the sick shooter don't like.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
To take credit for what he does.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
He's the sort of man who hides his lamp under
under a bushel.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
What hell you ain't gonna get away with her here
in copper Springton's say mister popper.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
A not like why a king ain't nothing to be ashamed?
Well I've missed a bunchy. You ought to be proud
of yourself.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Well maybe I would if I done it.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Now, just just wait like here, and I wait a minute,
wait a minute, listen to me.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
You n to beg yes, you with throwing out.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
And mister raw and hey, why do you well, I'll
be done.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Well.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
I never saw anything like it. For the next half hour,
folks came up to me from all directions, all saying
I'd shot Wyatt King given me their congratulations. I told
them I hadn't had anything to do with it, but
they just wouldn't be convinced, and I didn't see how
I could straighten them out on it. I it did
make me feel kind of funny though, all this hella

(07:52):
baloo over a misunderstanding, and then when the mayor said
something about letting the kids out of school for a
day in my honor while, I just had to find
some way of putting a stop to it. So I
headed over to the jail, introduced myself to the Sheriff's
the privileged to meet you, mister Pontal, A privilege as
oh not that I wouldn't have caught up with King

(08:13):
myself sooner or later, but you kind of speed it
up the operation. Yes, yes, now that's what I want
to talk to you about it.

Speaker 6 (08:19):
Oh, now, don't you worry about the reward. I'll see that.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
You know I'm not interested in any reward.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
Would you hear everybody says you're the generous type.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I heard that. Well I'm not that generous sheriff. Now,
I reckon I'd take the reward if I was entitled
to it. Oh, now you've got to listen to me. Now,
I didn't shoot why it King?

Speaker 6 (08:42):
I heard you've been trying to ease out of taken
the credit.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I'm not trying to do anything except tell you the
truth you asked King. When it comes to you'll find out.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Oh he came to a little while ago, mister Pontitt,
right after Doc McIntyre got through patching him up. He's
practically as good as new.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Now, well i'll go on, go on ask him if
I had anything to do with shrewd hug.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Well, why should I ask him again?

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Again? Well? Sure, as soon.

Speaker 6 (09:04):
As he was able to talk, I questioned him. Well,
he says you made a lucky draw, mister Parson. Of course,
that's just not all about it.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
No, no, now wait a minute here, you do you
mean to say that Wyat King claims I shot him?

Speaker 6 (09:20):
Hm, well, you're a six shooter ain't you. Well, well,
that's who he says done it.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
I just couldn't believe hers. I never laid eyes on
this wyoming kid my whole life, though I'd heard plenty
about him. Of course, all his escapade. He had quite
a reputation. Well, Sheriff, hap Hill wasn't even easier to
convince them the rest of the folks had been so
Finally I asked him if he'd mind letting me talk
to King. The fellow had shot him must have resembled

(09:56):
me in some way, at least that's what I figured,
And I was certain that once we met head on,
the King could see that he'd been wrong.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
Well, why huh is the man who shot you?

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Why do you have to keep going over that, Sheriff?
I told you who done it?

Speaker 6 (10:13):
Yeah, but mister Pounson here kind.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Of disagrees with you. I sure do. Oh ah, let's
just get this thing straightened out once and for all,
and then we won't have it. It's the matter with
your britt You was ready enough to pull the trigger
last night. Why are you trying to lie out of
it now to pull why you you know we've never

(10:37):
run into each other before last night or any other
time I got a bandage on the belly. It says different.
Now take a good look at me. Why now, maybe
in the dark you sort of thought that the fellow, well,
maybe there was a likeness. You got a twin brother.
Of course, I've got no twin if you ain't got
a twin brother. And it was you that shot me.
It wasn't very dark either. Don't you remember the way

(10:59):
we were standing there in the moonlight and the where
you went for your gun, the same gun you went
right now, I should ain't likely to forget it. I well,
now look here, sheriff. Now you listen to me. I
don't know what's the matter with this cave. Must have
gone loco or something, but I give you my work.

Speaker 6 (11:16):
Mister prontid. We all know how you feel about accepting
the hunters and having folks look up to you, But
this is one time you just ain't gonna be able
to get.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Away with it.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
As a matter of fact, I believe there's some kind
of a doing that planned over at the town hall
later on this afternoon, after the parade.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
That is the parade. Oh now, you just hold on
here now before everybody starts tearing around in circles. I
like to talk to why it alone? If you don't
mind what for, well, I just just give me a
couple of minutes with.

Speaker 6 (11:47):
Them, shriff all right, all right, but I should don't
see what you hope to gain by it.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
I'll have to lock in with you.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
No, I ain't take no chance man locking.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Give a holler when you want out, alright, Can I
want the truth? Well, I ain't the one who's local
puns it you are. There's a pretty big reward for me.
There's a reward for the fella who captured you. Well,
as long as I keep saying you're the fella you
can collect, I'm doing your favorite. Well, maybe I don't

(12:18):
happen to want any favor from you. Well, don't look
like you got much choice in the matter, does it?
Of course? Just between the two of us now now singing,
you're right close like U. It might've been somebody else's
shot me, you know, dog gone?

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Well it was.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Well, even if it was, even if I was mistaken
about it, I I sure wouldn't admit it. I don't
see why not. Oh now, mister puncit. You don't think
I want folks to know I was outdoored by a
little fellow of gray hair and.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
A putt belly.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Oh, how's that a man? N nobody's heard of a
rusty clerk or a sawdbuster. That's what he looked like
to me. Why hey even had a ready made suit on,
a coat and pants cut out of the same cloth.
It's stiff collar and a necktie. I never supposed a
man like him and know how to use a gun.

(13:07):
Other eyes, i'd been more careful. Wow, Well, at least
we finally got down to the truth. Huh Now, all
you gotta do is tell the sheriff, and I'm not
telling anybody else. Puncher and I got an idea you're
telling him won't make much difference. Huh h. Now, as
long as I keep saying it was you shot me,

(13:29):
and of course that's what I'm gonna say, I ain't
got no choice. Well, you haven't got any reason to
lie about it. Well, now, look, it's one thing to
be out shot by Brett ponchaid that ain't so hard
to swallow. But the idea of being outdrawt by a nobody, well,
I wouldn't be able to face my friends again after
I break out of jail. They'd all have a laugh

(13:51):
on me. Yes, sir, sure was a lucky break. When
the sheriff come in and said, using town asked if
you was the one shot, you're not gonna get away
with U. King. Well, I'm sorry if it upset a post,
but after all, I've got my reputation, your sitter, your reputation. Why,

(14:11):
I've never heard of such a thing.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
Car get me out of here.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
We'll return to James Stewart as the sick shooter in
just a moment. Each year, forest fires take a tragic toll,
destroying the natural resources that are vital to our nation's strength. Remember,
one moment of carelessness can destroy national beauty and wealth
that can never be replaced.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Forest Fires have been.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Called America's most shameful waste because they can be prevented.
Don't fail to do your part in preventing them. Don't
be guilty of starting one. Now, Act two of The

(15:08):
six Shooter, starring James Stewart as Britt Pontsen.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Well, I knew that there wasn't any point in hanging
around the jail trying to make sure if hamp Hill
believed what Wyat King had told me. King was right
as long as he kept insisting that I shot him,
I wasn't gonna be able to convince anybody of the
truth unless it unless the man who really did shoot him.

(15:40):
M I was walking down the main street, passing the
bank when I remembered what the King had said. A
gray haired fellow with a pot belly wearing a ready
made suit and a stiff collar and tie. Hm, I'd

(16:00):
see somebody looked like that. I couldn't think where, where?
Where was it? And then I just happened to glance
into the bank.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
MM, yeah, sir, What can I do?

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:17):
What you're mister Puncheon? Ain't you? I trying?

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Bye?

Speaker 4 (16:21):
You sure stirred up a.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Lot of talk, mister Punchett, the whole town't Yeah. Yeah,
I know, mister rowand just stepped out for a couple
of minutes.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
But is there anything I can do? You're the teller,
aren't you?

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Yes, sir, Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
I've been with the bank for twenty six years now,
you know, sir. The name's Junius Pilgrim, mister Punchett.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Oh, please to major mister Pilgrim.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Of course, if you're in a hurry for something, maybe
I could find mister Rowland.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
No, No, As a matter of fact, it was you.
I wanted to talk to me. Yes, yes, you see,
I've just come from a session with Wyat King over
to jail. Oh and uh he told me about the
shooting last night.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
Uh huh, that's sue. It's really interesting, mister Punchett.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Well, I I've got.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Some uh statements, get out now, so if you don't mind.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
And uh King told me about the man who did it.
Oh uh she No, it's a funny thing, mister Pilgrim.
The description he gave me sure fits you, right down
to that tie you were in. And to come to
think of it, you're just about the only person in
town does fit. I don't know what you mean, sir,

(17:35):
Well you don't, uh you don't. Well, it was nice
talking to you, mister Punchett.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Yeah, eh, you w you won't mention this to anybody else.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Well, I don't see what difference likes. As long as
it wasn't you he was talking about.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
Well it, j it might be kind of embarrassing. I
I mean, well, uh.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Uh, just just what do you mean? All right?

Speaker 5 (18:01):
All right, I'll admit it to you, mister Punchett, but
you got to promise me you won't tell anybody else.
You gotta give me your word.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
You shot him? Huh.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
I didn't intend to.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
I didn't even know who he was.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
You see, I wasn't here when he held up the bank. Oh.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
I was on my way back to town him from
wood to Tariver's wrench. I'd read out to tell her
that her account was overdrawn again.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Uh huh.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
And this fella he comet me out of the dark,
told me wanted a horse. I didn't even stop to think.
I just grabbed my gun and let fire. I never
should have done it, mister Punchett. I don't know what
got into me.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Ure you're sorry you shot a man? Like why?

Speaker 5 (18:43):
I can't no, no, no, exactly. But it's kind of
hard to explain the fact is I married mister Punchett.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Uh hm.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
And Matilda, that's my wife. Matilda is kind of particular
about some things. She's real particular about me. That's why
I got to wear this dog gone collar.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Just cut my next.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Why I can hardly stand it sometimes?

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (19:13):
So?

Speaker 2 (19:15):
I sure feel sorry for it, honest, but I don't
see what that's got a connection?

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Well, not much punches if if don't you see if
if Matilda knew if I so much as buried a gun, well,
well she just have a conniption fit. And and if
she was to find out that I used to be
kind of experienced a gunplay, why she just.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
Raised the roof.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
I don't think that she'd ever let me get out
of her side after that. You see, I I never
told her that when I was younger, I used to
be sort of quick on the trigger.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Oh the dog gun. Well, I take it your talents
haven't exactly deserted? Will that was the dog underesting?

Speaker 5 (20:00):
I wouldn't did even had that danger father with me,
except it with the Tolliver had give me some money
to deposit. And she was real worried about my getting.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
It into town.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Alright, you see it was old smith Tolliver's gun.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
She insisted on owing it to me.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
I say, when it's this wyat king jumped up at me. Well,
I guess some of 'em all instincts much come through
these ways. The next thing I knew, he was a
leaner in the dirt, not moving.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Yeah, I'll be done. Yeah, now mind you now, mind you.
I I wasn't a gunfighter in my younger days, but
I did kind of.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
Manage to shoot my way out of a few scrapes. Yes,
I don't look much like it now, do it.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Well, A man's liable to do a certain amount of aid,
and I expect sometimes I think i'd done more in
my chare. Well, anyway, I.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
Suppose you can see now why I don't want folks
to know what happened last night, not me and Wyatt King.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Yeah, yeah, I guess you've got a point on us.
But I can't go on taking the credit for what
you did. Well, wished to punch it. You give me
your word on it. No, no, no, no, I didn't
do any such things.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Well, I wouldn't have been killed or what in turn
you mister mister Hawkins, watch all one, but you brought
you just.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Broke out a jail.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
He broke out a chance some durned food forgot to
lock yourself. Sheriff thinks he's heading toward bad water falls.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
Who were getting the posse together for good news? Shit,
come we We won't be needing you, Jonas, No.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
No, no, no, of course not. But the sheriff was.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Really anxious to have you come along. Mister pontett Is.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
That's all. Well, I'm sorry I won't be able to.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
Applig but you you've already captured why it once?

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Well, let's just say that once was enough. As a
matter of fact, I'm for goingna leaving town. Which way
is bad? Water falls south dues out, I'm heading north?
So long, m uh well. Inside of five minutes, the
whole town of Copper Springs had ridden off from a

(22:06):
southerly direction, the male population and it, I guess Jonas
and I were about the only two men that hadn't
joined up with a sheriff's posse. In a way, I
was kind of relieved the king had broken out of jail,
and at least I'd be able to leave town without
any more of this foolishness about me capturing him. Oh
not that I ever wanted a fella like king to

(22:28):
go free, understand, but I figured the posey probably keptch
up to him pretty soon. He couldn't have had much
of a head start, so I headed over the livery
stable to get Scar. I'd already paid for his keep
in advance, but the man around the stable had gone
off with the others, and I didn't feel like sticking
around for the refund. He's gone easy, Scar, I looked

(22:52):
around for his saddle and was lying on the floor
over a boy pile of hay. And just as I
picked it up, I know there's something funny about the hay.
It was starting to move. Just keep pulling on the
that saddle. Punts it, and don't reach for your gun, Wyat.
If you make a move or ram his pitchfork right

(23:14):
through you. Oh, you're crazy, whitch. You'll never get out
of town, ain't you. Nope, But they'd left you see
town to stop me except you. Uh, you got a
wound in your belly. That don't stop you. Don't worry
about me. Punts it. I'll make out now. I'm taking
your gun in your horse. Uh, there are plenty of
other horses here. I'm taking yours, Wyat. Shut up. You'd
get a taste of these brothers. Well, there wasn't any

(23:37):
point in my arguing about I'm not with a pitchfork
digging into my chest. So I waited until he reached
out a hand for my gun, and I gave that
saddle a little toss, caught him right and under. He
went over backwards. I started to go from a holster,
but why it stuck out the handle of left pitchfork,
and the next thing I knew, I was down on
the floor. Besides the bang is pissing my face me

(24:00):
and I felt his hands go over my throat. I
managed to get up on a knee and flipped him over.
I hoisted myself on my knee, but he let loose
with a kick and I went flat again, and I
got a glimpse of his boot coming into my face,
and I just got out of the way inside and
then he missed me and almost lost his balance, and
I had time to get on my feet again. I

(24:22):
came charging him with both fists again, and one of
them past my ear and the other one smashed into
my shoulder, and I left him wide open. Wow. I

(24:42):
just couldn't leave him lying there on the floor unconscious.
I figured wouldn't be very long before he came to,
so I picked him up and carried him across the
street to where he belonged. Jail was completely deserted and
I was gonna sign anybody, but the door to the
wide's cell was unlocked, so I laid him on the
cop inside and pulled the blanket up over him. I

(25:05):
didn't want to catch cold or anything like that. Found
the key in the front office and I locked him in.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
ID Jonas, all up, minute, Jonas, boy, I thought you lived,
John I'm leaving right away, a Jonas, right away, that is, uh,
if you'll do me.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
A little favor, a favor. Yeah, your proof for the
day with the bank are saying.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
Oh, yes, yes, yes, we close at four o'clock sharp.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
I'm on my way home now. Well, I was wondering
if you'd mind putting off your supper a little bit. Well,
but until the posse comes back, that is what for reponse? Well,
you see, I was over at the jail just a
minute ago, and there's nobody over there watching things while
the sheriff's out of town. I don't see what difference

(25:58):
it makes.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Whyat king was said only a prisoner and he's escaped.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah, but even so, you know, I suppose somebody would
break in, like they could do a lot of damage.
You know, the Sheriff's probably got some important papers in
the file. No, mister punch, No, But you never know, Jonas,
You never know about things like that.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
Well, I guess the sheriff should have locked up when
he left.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
I don't see what. Well, then you won't mind holding
down the fort while he's gone.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Well, I, well, there's long jarren't any prisoners to look after.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
I just wouldn't feel right about running off it if
there wasn't somebody to mind the jail.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
Well, mister punch is it sure seems to me like
you're worrying unnecessarily.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
But where I I guess I can do.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
That much for you.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Niks Jonas, I really appreciate it. All I have to
do is sit in the front office with somebody shows up.
All right, mister Punches, I'll get right over there, Jonas,
god uck here.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
Yeah, Oh, mich punch it. I hope you weren't pulled
out about my letting books. Think it was you who
shot White King last night.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Oh, I guess I'll get over it after all.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
Sometimes it is based if a man takes a responsibility
for something, even if he hasn't done it himself.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
All right at Oh oh yeah, yeah, I guess that's well.
I'll be saying. Yeah, I tell you what. I got
out of Copper Spring as fast as I could. I

(27:39):
just wasn't sure how things were going to work out.
But then a couple of weeks later, a copy of
the Copper Springs Press caught up with me, and there
was Jonah's Pilgrim's picture all over the front page. Yes, Sir,
a great big article telling how the sheriff and his
pos he'd come back to town. I'll find a trade,

(28:00):
why and why right in the jail, And there was
Jonas Pilgrim snooze in the front, off as calm as
a cucumber, modest. Pilgrims fought the paper called John. He
said he'd tried to deny on anything to do with
Wire's capture, but the folks and Popper Spray, they just
hadn't believed them. Well, it was plain as day that
he'd taken Wyat single handed. Well, like Johonnas said that

(28:24):
sometimes it's best for a man to take the responsibility
of the thing, even if he hasn't done it.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
