Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, Leo Weston here and welcome back to the
Sober Reset. You know, I've been thinking a lot lately
about boundaries, those invisible lines we draw around ourselves to
protect our energy, our time, and our sanity. It's like
having a personal force field, right because let's be honest,

(00:23):
life can get pretty overwhelming. Ever felt like you're constantly
giving without getting back what you need. You know that
feeling when someone takes advantage of your kindness or maybe
even drains your energy without realizing it. Yeah, we've all
been there. That's why today we're diving deep into the

(00:44):
world of healthy boundaries in relationships. Because, let's face it,
strong boundaries are the foundation for any truly fulfilling connection. Now,
I'm not talking about building walls and becoming a hermit.
Healthy boundaries are more like setting clear guidelines that respect
both you and the other person involved. Think of it

(01:08):
as communicating your needs and expectations in a way that
feels authentic and empowering. It's about saying yes to what
nourishes you and know to what drains you without feeling
guilty or obligated. Here are five key takeaways to keep
in mind when building those boundaries. First, know your values.

(01:31):
What's truly important to you, is it honesty, respect, time alone,
intellectual stimulation. Figure out your core values and let those
guide your decisions. Think of them as your compass, helping
you navigate tricky situations and stay true to yourself. Second,

(01:52):
learn to say no without guilt. This is a big one.
Saying yes all the time can leave you feeling resentful
and exhausted. It's okay to decline requests that don't align
with your values or schedule. Remember, your time and energy
are valuable resources. Invest them wisely. Third, communicate clearly and assertively.

(02:19):
Don't beat around the bush. Express your needs and expectations directly,
but respectfully. Use I statements to own your feelings and
avoid blaming others. For example, instead of saying you always
interrupt me, try I feel unheard when I'm interrupted? Could

(02:40):
we please allow each other to finish our thoughts. Fourth,
set limits on your availability. It's easy to get caught
up in the whirlwind of life, but remember you don't
have to be available twenty four to seven. Schedule time
for yourself and stick to it. Let people know your boundaries,

(03:00):
whether it's setting aside specific hours for work, family time,
or simply some much needed solitude, and finally, be consistent.
It takes time and practice to build strong boundaries. Don't
get discouraged if you slip up occasionally. Just keep reminding
yourself of your values and what's important to you. Consistency

(03:23):
is key. Now let me give you a real world example.
Imagine a friend constantly calls you late at night to
vent about their problems, even when you've already said you
need some quiet time. That's a boundary being crossed. It
might feel awkward at first, but it's important to gently
remind your friend of your boundaries. You could say something like,

(03:46):
I care about you and want to be there for you,
but late night calls are hard for me because I
need my sleep. Maybe we can schedule a call during
the day. See, it's all about finding that balance between
being supportive and taking care of yourself. Remember, building healthy
boundaries isn't selfish, it's self care. It's self care. It

(04:10):
allows you to show up fully in your relationships, cultivate
deeper connections, and ultimately live a more fulfilling life. So
go out there, set those boundaries and reclaim your power.
So that's it for today's episode. Remember building healthy boundaries
takes time and practice, but the payoff is worth it.

(04:33):
Let me know what you think about today's topic on
social media. What are some of your biggest boundary setting challenges?
Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Let's keep
this conversation going, and don't forget to subscribe for daily
doses of inspiration and motivation as we continue our journey

(04:56):
towards a more fulfilling and sober life together, See you tomorrow.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
