Speaker 1 (00:09):
Now we are about to jump into our discussion on
the meta and are unlocks for the season. So I
didn't really play as much as I thought I would
this past season.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
It wasn't that I was dissatisfied like a lot of
other people were. I was trying to find myself some
motivation that's working quite a bit, and go to bed
pretty early. So I wasn't able to play a whole lot.
But I did get out there a little bit. When
I was playing, I saw a lot of Surge and Red.
That was a big combo that was seeing the most.
Gone are the days where I'm griping about destroyed decks
(00:41):
all the time. That's not happening anymore. It's a matter
of the hot combo and if there's a good archetype
that a lot of people were using. When Invisible Woman
First Steps came out, we've already talked a good bit
about her, but she was one of the cards I've
seen quite a bit since I started using her. I
don't know if that's the algorithm saying, hey, you got
this card, let's put you up against other people with
(01:03):
this card. And that's supposedly not something that they do,
but it's kind of what you see a lot of Anyway,
as far as Grand Arena goes, how did it feel?
Because I haven't played other than maybe four or five matches,
what's your thoughts? Is it grindy like other events were?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
There's a little bit of a grind. I did not
realize I was close to getting enough for more Man today.
I hadn't cashed in, and then suddenly it was like, oh, hey,
you finished. I went to the maximum of the latter.
There's a grind to it, but the fact that you
have different things you can choose from makes it interesting
because it's a variation of the card that you can't
(01:38):
use anywhere else, and you always get that card and
it's skill in your hand. I find that interesting. And
the fact that you can they have pre built decks,
and like I said, I was using cards I don't
even have in it. That was neat, but you can
also make your own. I liked that variety to it,
so I found it to be pretty enjoyable. That it
(01:58):
felt like too much of a grind, although I was
not doing regular games hardly at all for a while,
so I jumped back to it. I didn't go back
and forth between them a lot. I did a lot
of Grand Arena and then a lot of regular, but
I thought I thought it was a neat mode. The
only complaint I have about these these modes I wish
that there was an opportunity to play friendly matches.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, I've always thought the same thing, like, it would
be fun because you also get to experience the event.
It may not be able to progress forward with the
stakes or whatever. Yeah, if it's a friendly game, they
probably don't want so and so throw in the game.
You're the one guy that wins all the time, it
gets anything, So it'd have to be a situation where
you're not getting a regular friendly play.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, I'd love it if you had high Voltage as
a regular option for friendly But if they don't want
to do that, then maybe just have a designated time
where you can play Grand Arena and friendly matches, play
high voltage friendly. That's really the I mean sometimes that
can't get to be a bit much. But I wanted
both of those cards mainly because I could get them,
(03:01):
not because it was like, oh no, I don't have
the Mad Thinker and Moleman.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Mad Thinker is not the one I'm shooting for.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
At all.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
It would be Mullman for sure, if I'm going to
Grand Arena for But it.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Was more like, Okay, I want the cards because I
can get the cards. But it wasn't like I have
to have these cards, right. I thought it was fun.
But now that I've gotten those cards, there's still prizes
I could get. But I don't know how much I'm
going to go back to it. I found it enjoyable.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Okay, that's good.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Like I said, there's about five days left, so I
might get into it. I'm going to try and hit
eighty first. I'm really going to try it and make a
run for Invident. Oh my goodness, look out, I've only
done it once before in my entire time playing. So
what else did you see with the meta this season?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I did hear the grumbling about too much mister Fantastic
and Serge and the Fantastic Car, or maybe they were
beating me more than I thought they were, because a
lot of times, as much as I like Snap, my
attentions divided. Like I'll be like I can get a
game in and then I'll be paying attention to you know,
every once in a while, I'll be like, wait, where'd
that card go. I was playing the game to day
use images of icon to turn everybody into hit Monkey,
(04:05):
and hit Monkey wasn't there anymore. And I still don't
know what happened to fixing food. I was like, wait
a minute, So I'm not always the most observant player,
Like I said, I don't want to, you know, if
somebody's not enjoying it, I don't want to be like, oh, well,
your opinion's dumb. You should just like it. Now. If
you don't like it, you don't like it. So I
get why people are frustrated. But one of the things
(04:25):
that I've seen is people saying, well, you know, if
you don't have the hot new card in the meta,
then you're going to lose, and then by the time
you do get it, they'll nerve it into oblivion. I
don't know. I have a pretty good collection of cards.
I've got all the series three cards and I'm only
missing two from Series four. Other than that one, I
think it was a ninety nine cent bundle you could
get where you got that Captain America variant. The only
(04:46):
thing I've ever bought is the occasional season Pass card.
The goal is to collect everything, and I'm always trying
to get new cards, but I don't. And again, maybe
this is just because I'm more of a casual player,
and you know, even if I was hyper competitive, might
not do much better than I am now. But I
don't think we have to have every card. I think
(05:07):
it's kind of interesting. I still don't have black Swan.
And every time you talk about black Swan, I'm like, oh, yeah,
Jesse's rocking black Swan.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
I don't have, you know, bunk, He's one that I
saw today. I was like, man, I still got to
get that card. I still got to get hit Monkey, and.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I've found ways to make him somewhat useful.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Hip Monkey and black Swan are team brother. I mean,
if you can lay out five zero costs.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah, I ran those issues of Defenders too.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Anyway, keep going.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I may have told this story in here before, but
a long time ago, I was playing Hero Clicks at
one of the local comic shops. There were some guys
in high school at the time who were younger than me,
and one of them had gotten this really rare piece
and the other one wanted it, and he's like, I
don't want you to get it. He's like why not.
He's like, well, because that one's mine, I have it.
It wasn't that he didn't want his friend to have
something cool, but he just liked that he had something
(05:56):
that somebody else didn't have. There's not as many different
cards as there are hero clicks and stuff like that.
But it's I don't know. I just now if if
your goal is to have every card and master the meta,
and that's fine, that's cool. If the way they're distributing
cards or churning out cards makes that difficult and less
(06:16):
enjoyable for you, Okay, I get it. I'm not saying
you're wrong. I'm just saying that it doesn't bother me
to not be able to get every card. I like
the fact that there's still a bunch of options and
cards I can try to get, and I like trying
to get a particular card rather than worrying about how
much real money I have to spend and how much
time I have to put in to get every single
(06:38):
card right. So I'm still enjoying it. I get the
paywall thing doesn't bother me. For the longest time I
wasn't getting the stuff. It was a little bit of
a bummer when I finally got cannonball, and they, you know,
nerved his team with Professor Ax few days later. But
I still play cannonball, you know, I still use it,
so I I understand that, but I don't know's It
(07:01):
doesn't bother me much to miss out on something that
they decided wasn't good for the competitive balance of the game.
Not that they don't sometimes get it wrong, but I
don't know. Like I said, I don't want to tell
anybody else, like, hey, your opinion on this is stupid.
We just might be thinking about it different ways. I'm
fine with how I'm getting cards. I like the fact
(07:22):
that there's a lot of cards I can choose from
when I try to get something new, and the fact
that if there's one card I really want, I can
get it.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Maybe I can't get five cards I really want in
rapid succession. But you know, I've been complaining about the
thing for two plus years. They made a usable thing.
I got the thing, and if I hadn't gotten the thing,
it would have been because I used my resources in
another way. I'd like to have the torch, but I
decided he ranked below the thing and the invisible woman.
(07:55):
I've never been my Jova Johnny Storm fan, and I
like Herbie in the game. Amuses me to no end.
Human Torch should probably a better, more useful card. But
if I don't have the Human Torch, it's not cause
somebody messed me over or is demanding I pay a
king's ransom for it. I just went in a different direction.
(08:17):
And even if four together is the best meta, I've
got other options I can try. That's right, I'm losing
everything match.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
As far as getting the season pass and trying to
stay in and get that season pass card, There's been
very few times where I felt like I was missing
out because I was getting I'm not getting that card
very few times. And you know, in past like three
or four months here, I haven't bought a season pass
because fine with playing the game. It's a free to
play game. I don't have ads. They brought a game
(08:51):
that you can play without having to sit through. It's
free to play without having to sit through ads like
any other game. Granted, they make their money and some
of the craziest expensive things that I've seen they try
to sell on this game. But again, if you don't
have the money, don't spend the money. I guess I
want to have to live without it. Other people are
(09:11):
paying big money for this game, and I think a
lot of people who do that probably tell themselves, I've
gotten hours and hours, maybe hundreds of hours of enjoyment
out of this game. At the very least, I could
support Second Dinner. Now, Look, don't go painting me with
one big brush saying okay, he's a Second Dinner supporter,
(09:31):
because there's definitely stuff where I've disagreed with some of
the stuff that they've done and some of the stuff
we see on Reddit that fans have to deal with sometimes.
But again, me personally playing for free, I'm not going
to complain. It's hard for me to complain about a
free to play game.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, I saw somebody complaining about Grand Arena, and I'm
pretty sure I can get both of the cards now.
That's all I wanted. I will occasionally use resources to
get a variant that I really want, but for me,
it's at the cards first, get the variance as you can.
So I haven't I buy. I did buy one title
(10:07):
in the shop. I got the one that says when
I win, we all win.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
I haven't seen that one.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I like that one. I like the emotes, but I
was like, okay, to me. The biggest prize in there
is the two new cars. You can get those Champion variants,
but they cost almost as much as one of the cards.
They have a thing where you can spend I think,
fifteen hundred tokens on a Fantastic four pack and you're
guaranteed a Fantastic four variant. Well for a thousand tokens more,
(10:33):
I can get a Series or five hundred tokens more,
I can get that last Series four card I can
finally get or for twenty five hundred, I can get Hellyon.
My lack of interest in those characters is well documented.
We won't but I mean, and if you're into the variants,
that's great.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
You know.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
It's like we talk about some people think that is
the worst that you have kicked their dog and insalted
their mama if you give them a dan Hip or
Pixel variant. Oh man, I can't believe dan Hip or Pixel,
and I will give you every Chibi variant that I
have for one of them. It's just a difference of opinion.
(11:11):
If your opinion means you're not enjoying it, and you
did enjoy it, I am sorry, but you.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Know, different perspective. I get what bothers you.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
That's fair. It doesn't bother me.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Speaking of variants, it's getting unlocks.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Let's do all right, So we're going.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
To start out with I think I left off with
the Fury of Groot, and since then I got Clia
right after that. I don't think she was on the
last podcast, at least as far as I could tell.
I was looking our transcript from last time, so I
don't think she was there.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
And I think we did get it in before the
season ended, so yeah, that might be part of what
three off.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Possibly.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
So with Clia, you know, I found a lot of
use for you just talking about Marvel Boy and Cleia
getting those two in there, and I came up with.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
It, and it sucks when you don't draw one of
them though.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
I have her in that deck along with oh my goodness,
well actually no, I had a collector deck with her
in it, Marvel Boy, Prodigy and Invisible Woman first Steps,
and I'm not smart enough to understand to activate black Swan.
That way, I could fill my hand with a bunch
of flames of the Fault Teene and then have them
all be zero cost and just lay a bunch of
(12:25):
them out there.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Oh yeah, there you go. And you know who else
is good? If you're filling your hands with flaming flatlines,
tell me, mad thinker.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
The mad thinker. That's right, all right, so Clia. Then
I got a pixel death fix one not I think split.
This is a pretty sick spider man here. I got
uncle Ben. Wait, yeah, this is definitely it. So I
got uncle Ben, then got Topaz.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Go ahead.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
You know how I usually am the one who misses
the audio stuff. Yes, I've been playing with the sound
on lately. You ever heard the sound for uncle Ben.
It's like a storm and then and he's saying, with
great power comes great responsibility. But he's all weak and
he gets cut off.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Oh no, that's sad.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Just waiting for the GiB uncle Ben variant, not good
Topaz where he's just slumped over.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Toepaz.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
I used her in a deck a couple of times.
I kind of dug her. I was hoping to get
her Sebastian Shawl yep. And then I got a dan
hip gladiator, a food fight devil dinosaur.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
I like that he's eating the donut that Tony Stark
was sitting in and Iron.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
That's what I was thinking, Baby Professor X. And then
we have Sage Nice. I got gb Hood your favorite
oh yeah, favorite character and your favorite variant.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Good oh man.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Then I got Pictures Sports variant. You know, it would
just be him like playing dice in an alley.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
I got a Stuart Eminem Pixie and Visible Woman first
fantastic four first Steps. Then we got a Max Greky Lizard,
then a hydrous stomper Chibi hydro Stomper, and then the
chibies just don't stop there, ladies and gentlemen, No way, no,
how Moon colony is the coloris still in that interesting
(14:20):
my final right before.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
There's not a lot else to do up there on
the Moon and the Moon Colony than color chivs.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
It's like a prison. We send people to the Moon prison. Okay,
your job is the color chibis. And then we have
a Crossbones Chivy. I unlocked at the very leak last
moment today. Well there you go. I'm sitting at nineteen thousand,
six hundred and thirty collector level. Along with the amount
of tokens that I have, I think it's like five
thousand something.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Where do I need to go?
Speaker 1 (14:50):
I need to go shop, yeah, and twenty five, so
I'm hoping to save up. We'll have to see what
the cards are coming up this season. I can't tell
you if I have a definite card that I really want.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
That's my unlocks.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Evan Bevans, you have the floor, sir.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Alright. I am at collector level of twenty four one thousand,
two hundred and eight and I have some tokens, some
seven hundred and twenty five. Okay, so Helly and her
Corvus Glave are there for the taking. Next time I
hit the milestone, I can crack open a seasonal series
five pack and see what's happening.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Right, Unlocks.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
I did get Ksar thirty ninety nine, that's the very
But at San Diego Comic Con they announced yet another
twenty ninety nine limited series. It's called twenty ninety nine
The End, and it's got new and old twenty ninety
nine characters, a secret Oars type setup. I think Weapon
ex Wolverine was in one of the promo art pieces,
(15:52):
and one of the threats they'll be facing is from
thirty ninety nine. Ooh, so now I know we did
look up something in thirty nine nine had appeared briefly,
so I don't know, but you know, maybe a year
from now. It's a Source Material Snap Material crossover.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Episode, right, buddy, there we go, There we go.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Okay, So I finally finally finally got the art germ
Jean Gray that I meant to get six months ago.
It was the Hellfire Gala. Yes, I finally got it.
I'm trying to remember. I thought I wrote this down.
I sent it to you and my friend Luke about
how I had to get a certain amount of gold
before it rotated out of the shop. Oh yeah, so
(16:32):
it was so exciting. I can't remember it.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Well, left the lasting impression on you. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Usually it will be like I would wait and then
i'd see something else and go, okay, I'm going to
get that, and then she'd be in the shop the
next day. Since I got her, I think I've used
her once. I haven't used gen Gray a lot lately,
but that card was my white whale. I also don't
have any enough gold to get any variants including that.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Man.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
I was tempted because I love the what if variants,
but that craven what if variant he's not wearing pants
barely got a loin cloth on and he must have
been in a hurry to kill Spider Man or something,
but it becomes really apparent once you three d it,
and then the loin cloth is like whipping him. I
don't know. Oh no, did not feel good about that,
(17:16):
but anyway, got a Pixel Apocalypse cool. And then the
last one I got for the last episode was the
Disco variant of Forge, which is drawn by Phil Noto
and is just just an awesome looking card even when
you don't throw in any comedic effect from it being
a disco variant. But I have a lot of Forge splits,
(17:36):
so I took that one infinite and I got a
Gold Split Disco Forward.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Then I got the Marauders variant of Bishop, which, on
the plus side looks cool. On the downside, it reminds
me of the Marauders series, just not for me. I'm
sure there's somebody out there who loved it, and that's okay.
Then I got Herbie, and then I got the card
I'm sending you because it's a dan Hip Angel, which
sounds cool enough. But have you seen the dan Hip Angel.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
I don't think I have.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Oh yes, yes, yes, I think we talked about this
actually because I was excited because it was Archangel.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
And I did have an Archangel variant. But it's a chiebi. Yeah,
it's not bad. I just can't get in the headspace
unless it's the ex babies. There were baby variants. Speaking
of what you got a Silver Surfer baby variant that
actually does look pretty cool. I don't even remember there
was a deck I had, and I'm like, you know what,
this deck needs Jennifer Kle. I have enough tokens to
(18:31):
do it and still save up for the cards I want.
Let's get Jennifer Kle on this deck, even before they
gave her an extra power. It's like you can pick
when you get the energy. I do have her in
my Invisible Woman First Steps deck, although I call it
end of the Line, which works as a reference to
both Captain America and the Traveling Wilberries. Nice got a
pixel Adam Warlock and a pixel Leech. Okay, Then I
(18:53):
got the thing First Steps cool. Then I got the
first ghost Rider. I got that when it was available
as a prize. I got the ghost Rider one million
BC variant they put out before Ghostwriterer was actually a character,
so that that's I don't think we can make a
top five out of it, but we need to find
the list of standalone characters who were variants. First, because
you got Sam Wilson, Captain America and somebody else and
(19:17):
ghost Rider one million, got a pixel Invisible Woman. I
got The Hood, which was about Billy Tan. So I
like the ones from the com no disrespect to I mean,
there's a lot of awesome variants out there. I've never
read a comic where Dan hipdrew Marvel characters, but I
do like the ones that come from the comic or
from an artist I recognize. I always love a good crossover,
(19:39):
even if it's between hobbies. Got the Mad Thinker, got
a chibi Colossus who as Cheebi's go is Fine? Got
Invisible Woman first steps, Speaking of variants, ripped straight from
the comic pages. Got that David Finch Moonnight I sent you.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
A while back. Yes, the thing looks awesome, and.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Yeah, I had been using the pixel I mean, because
I like the pixels, but I don't know's it was
my favorite moon Night and that the baby Moon Night
in that is is pretty cool. But but yeah, it's
David Finch now, and I think I've got the refraction
split yeah, that's what going for now. I mean, I
like the ink splits, I like the gold splits, but
refraction it's like I've got a nineties gimmick cover. Okay.
(20:20):
Then I got the Masterpiece variant from Grand Arena, and
you can only get the Moullman Champion variant when they
switched to snap packs, they said, if you get a
variant for a card you don't have, then you get
the card. So I got the Moullman Champion and then
the Moleman. Right before we got on here, I played
a game and I got a lee Wuchool Loki, which
(20:42):
is just kind of cooling from a lower angle, and
I think he's walking on the rainbow bridge. That's so
all right, that's good stuff. It feels like I didn't
rack up as many variants as I have in the past.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
But I noticed I noticed quite a bit of a
drop for myself. I know I didn't play as much
this season, but yeah, I mean, shoot, I bet you
if you go.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Back, this may seem average.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
I don't know, but I can tell you I meant
in total, let's see, I've got one, two, three, four, five,
six cards that unlocked and a total of fifteen cards
including those, so I guess I'd be nine variants and
six complete unlocks. That's still a good bit of new cards.
They are releasing new cards left and right to fill
(21:23):
up these snap packs, so you ended up.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
With what six new cards?
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Good stuff?
Speaker 1 (21:28):
All right, ladies and gentlemen, there you go. That is
our unlocks and our discussion on the metal. Thanks a
lot for joining us. Make sure to tune in tomorrow
for the next installment of snap material.
