Speaker 1 (00:08):
Hi man.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, it is time to get into
our top five. Oh my goodness, Evid Bevans, you came
up with this one, and this was a tough one
for me. Why don't you let the listeners know what
your thoughts were here for our top five?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well, I thought it was simple, but you're having me
second guess it. We've talked earlier about how a lot
of the cards this season are characters we've seen before,
but new versions. Human Torch, first Steps, Invisible Woman, first Steps,
Mister Fantastic first Steps, and best, and most importantly of all,
the Thing. First Steps took the Thing from a card

(00:47):
that had a place in the game, but it was
an obscure place that made him not even a consideration
in most decks and turned him into quite the effective
weapon a fun car, as Ben Grimm should be. So
I was thinking, this is the direction they're going to
have to go, because as many wonderful and delightful, weird,

(01:09):
forgotten characters are in the Marvel universe, we still haven't
gotten Sleepwalker. There's a lot of characters we haven't gotten,
and there's a lot of wonderful characters that nobody's clamoring
for until they find out about them, but eventually to
keep the interest, they're going to have to start playing
the hits again, or as Chris Bailey would say, bringing
out the big guns. They had a perfect opportunity to
do that with the Fantastic for it, They've done it

(01:31):
occasionally with people like Sam Wilson as Captain America went
from variant to standalone card. So I said, the quick
way that I was thinking of it is the top
five cards that need a first Steps type update. All
the Fantastic Four got that update to tie in with
the movie, but the Thing was the one who really

(01:53):
needed it, The Torch, the Invisible Woman. Mister Fantastic are
all playable.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
And Invisible Woman definitely has her spot and a discard
deck along with Hella or or you know, so she
could hide Wong and whatever's going to happen there human
Torch move decks, but these four in connection with each other,
there just wasn't anything there.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, and the Thing was the one who went from
never going to use him even if he's your second
favorite character, to this guy it can be part of
an effective strategy. So I said, what are the top
five cards that need some kind of update, not necessarily
to totally change their their power, you know, not to

(02:36):
do an America Chavez or Spider Man. The card that
already exists can go on still existing. But who needs
that boost in their profile and power? Okay, the way
I was thinking of it.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I like it. I think the reason why I got
so tripped up with it was because I started looking
at things. You'll notice that a few of these cards
that are on this list actually sort of have kind
of like a first steps might not be this card,
but there might be a variant of this person. That

(03:09):
kind of tripped me up a little bit, but I
still went with it. Also, I was sitting there like
when you look at a lot of these cards are
very like in tune with the comic books and how
the mechanics of their powers work in the game. I
have one on my list here that I'm just like,

(03:30):
I mean, this person it's a stretch to kind of
put on the list because I feel like where they're
at right now is a really good spot. You could
definitely make an argument for this person continuing to have
the power that they do. What I ended up doing
was I was like, Okay, I'm taking a look just
like you said, the ones that I feel only need
an update. I suggested some updates. Is what the updates

(03:51):
would be. You talked about how it might not be
an America Chavez situation. I think all the ones where
I was on here, I feel like we need there's
probably something that I suggested that needed to be changed
in with their ability. I'm curious if we will have
any overlap.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
I just rearranged my list. Okay, an example, because there
are a couple that we have gotten new versions of. Well,
if that one's a good example, then here's the other one.
And then I rearranged a couple of it.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
All right, let's go for my number five, the one
card that I would use a lot. It's my top
favorite character in comic books, and that's the Punisher.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Guess what my number five is?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah? Oh wow, there you go.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
We're both revisions of my.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
List, No kidding.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Moved him up and then moved him back.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah. I don't know what it would take to update him.
I think it could be just as simple as a
buff for him. Maybe his cost gets decreased. His ability
is right now for every it'll be card, it's plus one,
I think, is how that one, which but yeah, you know,
the more he's out numbered, the better advantage he has.
I was thinking maybe if you dropped his dropped his

(05:04):
costs down, or maybe increase it, but then increase his
ability as well, so it's not just gonna be plus
one for that or maybe a situation where it's plus
one for every other card at the location, so not
just you know, you got people to back you up,
and you got people you're going up against, and you
can have a potential of it being a plus seven

(05:26):
and also give people reason to avoid the lane. But anyway,
that was my thoughts for Punisher. Did you have any arguments.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
His ability makes sense? But he just I mean I've tried.
I've even tried to put him in some decks recently,
and he always gets gets squeezed out. He's just not
somebody that you consider a lot index. I think he
needs a whole new ability. I mean, he needs to
be able to take out a card, yeah, or more

(05:55):
than one card. I don't know exactly what it would be,
but it needs to be something along the lines of
any death strike or shang chie. He needs to be
able to eliminate somebody to reflect the character my favorite
punisher is the John Bernhal Netflix Daredevil Born Again punisher.
When he shows up, something's going haywire. It's not just like, oh, hey,

(06:16):
the punishers here, guys. It's it's it's huge. So yet
he needs something quick and brutal. Maybe not a card
that turns the tide every time you put him in there,
because he's still a guy with a lot of guns
and really stubborn, but something that, in the right circumstances,
can swing a lane. But yeah, I think he needs
to be able to destroy a card or you.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Know, maybe it's it's a silver sable kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, or what if it's an on reveal or activate
destroy a card with a higher cost or a higher
point value. So like, you're not guaranteed to take out
the big one like shang Chi. But but the Punisher's
going to take down somebody that doesn't think he can
touch them. Okay, it could be the Hulk, it could
be a slightly boosted Nicholas Scratch.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I like it all right, very good. Number four? What's
your number? Four?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Number four? And I didn't think of this at all,
because there's nothing wrong with these cards as they exist
right now. They actually do have synergy and some of
the longest running comic accurate synergy in the game. But
one of the first alternate versions of an existing character
we got was Rocket and Groot. D Groot's good, but

(07:31):
you got to have them together. So we need a
Cloak and Dagger do it.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yes, I forgot about the duo idea tag on it.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
They haven't done it five minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
They haven't done that with anybody since. And this was
what Marvel Rivals I think was the big deal. Yeah,
so yeah, that needs to happen. Dude, that's a great pick.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
So I don't know what it would be, to be honest,
The last couple of days were crazy. I came up
with my list really quick, and I was like, yeah,
that's good. But they do work well together because Cloak
allows you to move someone, Dagger gets a bonus for moving,
so it is like the best early synergy probably in
the game. But yeah, it's something where they are together.
And maybe it's something like a dual thing where you

(08:14):
know where mister fantastic first steps gives you minus one
cost or plus two power. Maybe it's something like that,
or maybe it's an activate or an on reveal where
the effect changes like it's light one turn and dark
the next turn, and you pick which one you use
something like that.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
So you combine what we have already, so you have
Cloak allows other people to move to that location, and
then of course you have Dagger, who could potentially move
over there and then gain the power off of that.
In this situation, we ought to do an activate and
when you activate them, they move to a random lane

(08:53):
and then get the bonus. It doesn't have to be
the full bonus that Dagger gets. Something similar though, like
a plus one for everybody that's there. Act debate it
and then it moves. But maybe you can't control the location.
Both of them move somewhere and teleport out of there.
That's a really good pick right there. I like that.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Here's an idea. What if it's a card that you
play and then if it's destroyed, splits into a Cloak
card and a Dagger card and each goes to a
different location.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Oh that's interesting. That's pretty cool. Yeah, that'd be interesting.
Good thought. All right, Well, my number four, this is
a card that I think almost has the perfect spot
already in Marvel Snap, but I think something more could
be done.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
For Iceman Okay, he is a mega mutant right.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
And he's sitting at he's a one two one.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Marvel is legally obligated to mention in every appearance he makes.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I think he's a one two. But essentially his ability
right now is you lay him out there is one
reveals he causes another card to cost one more, which
I kind of understand, Like, Okay, you were thinking about
playing that card, Well you're frozen in your tracks. You
can't do it because now you gotta wait for the
next turn to play it. That could happen, you know.
So I like that, but I feel like, again, this

(10:11):
card could have a little bit more of a boost.
So the thought I came up with was something like,
maybe this is similar to one of the cards that
we have in the new season upcoming. What was it
that erases text from the other card? Yeah? I was
thinking something similar, like he could negate an ability on

(10:33):
another side, but just for one turn. Yeah, so you
know he could stay at a one two, but that
right there would freeze that person. They're unable to do
anything that turn. He'd be fun to play on turn
six and mess somebody up. That was my thoughts Iceman
for my number four, So then now I'll.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
See him maybe something like it and activate where since
Jodenheim the Land of the Frost Giants subtracts one from
every card there instead of absorbing it, you activate and
he produces one power for the opponents. I like that
for everybody. You could have a mute next season. It's
the mute X version of all those characters.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Nah, yeah, nice, Yeah we can. I don't know a
lot where that is.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
But they did do a whole Exiles season.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
So uh huh he did they did? All right, my
number three, so let's see possibly some overlap.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
He's on my list, but he's not number three.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
All right, then we're moving to your number three. What's
your number three?

Speaker 1 (11:29):
My number three is somebody in the same boat as
the Thing, A long standing character respected has a spot
in the game. Doesn't seem quite as embarrassing as the Thing,
although I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just because I
like to think so much better. But he has a
spot in the game, but it's only carrying water for

(11:50):
Patriot or the high Evolutionary and that's Cyclops. And maybe
it could be like an Age of Apocalypse cyclop something
like that, or we'll get a James Marsden style one
for Avengers Doomsday.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
I don't know, let's do a duo. It's Cyclops and
Havoc back to back. We could have a cool duo
there with Cyclops and Havoc.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
He's master strategist, cool underfire except for when he became
terrorist revolutionary. But he had reasons. So yeah, don't know
what it would be. Maybe you just push him up
to a four or five or a five six and
give him the high evolutionary power. But you couldn't just
do that to the card because then, you know, then
you'd lose him for high evolutionary purposes, right, you know,

(12:32):
which reminds me you didn't even talk about the end
of turn thing. The big synergy is high evolutionary. A
lot of those are end of turn. Oh I have
high evolutionary. I forgot about that.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
I haven't got him yet.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
The deck I need to try out now, but that
way right, So yeah, sometimes Cyclops is just seen as
the boring stick in the mud, but you check out comics.
He can more than handle himself and needs a higher
snap profile than just you know, hey, put me in
high evolutionary.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
I can do it right, all right, I'm definitely agree.
So that was your number three, and are we going
to number two? You're going number two?

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Now?

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Okay, yeah, all right, what's your number two?

Speaker 1 (13:14):
My number two? I feel like you'll agree with this.
He might even be on your list. He's a character.
I don't think they should get rid of his existing
card because very few of us can get it to work.
But it's one of the best ideas they've put in.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Snap, I know it's coming. It's got to be what
mine's number one is? Hold on to that one, then
I guess I go to my number two. My number
two is this is a card who's last change that
occurred to this character was absolutely horrendous. It made no
sense to me whatsoever. And I think that we need

(13:49):
to do something to whether create a new one. I
don't know what it would be, maybe give him a
robotic suit or something like that, but we need something
to happen with Rhino. Have you seen Rhino's ability? Yeah,
his new ability is at a rock to your side?
What why? Yeah, he's a three six.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
I put him in a deck with Strange Supreme for
five minutes.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Okay, all right, so you're feeding Strange Supreme. I can
see that. His original ability was I think perfect. Yeah,
I don't understand why they went why but I don't remember. Okay,
well did I read it? Probably not. Did I like it? No,
I don't like it. I think it just didn't make
any sense whatsoever.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Remember, Rhino. To me, it sounds like you need to
get on the horn.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
I remember what the change happened. I had to read
it three times. I was like, no, that's not right.
That's to their side, right, No, it's to your side. Okay.
I did not like I understand three six, Okay, fine, whatever.
So anyway, I think a lot of mine when I
suggested new abilities, was more like, let's give it some
kind of chaos factor. And that's kind of what my

(15:04):
suggested ability for Rhino is. Wanted him to do something
like Juggernaut. You know, Juggernaut comes out and runs through
any players that are getting or any characters that are
getting any cards are getting played on the opposite side
and sends them flying. Rhinos should do something very similar.
I'm just not saying move them. I was thinking he

(15:26):
hits one and that's already played and makes them randomly
change their text on their card. I wanted something to
be like, oh crap, the rhinos here people worth flustered.
And that's the only thing I can think of do
is change their text. I have them as number two
because I hate the way that his ability is now.
And yeah, there's ways to get rid of the rock,
but I dated the added to your side. Let's get

(15:48):
him a first Steps card, another card that makes it
a little more useful. So there you go. That's my
number two pick.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah. Now, probably I don't know. One good way to
get rid of the rock would be to give him
an oscar bait script about ultimate fighting. Oh wait wait, no,
just a one zero rock.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
That's the rock. Okay, Well, then I guess we talk.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
About why the number ones are.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, I guess we talk about my number one. You're
number two. So yeah, I mean, look, Kang the Conqueror
needs to be tweaked somehow. His ability, though, makes complete sense.
That was my notes was that his ability right now
makes complete sense.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
That's why he needs a new card. You can't take
that away. It's one of the best useless things in
the game.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
It's just not advantageous really in any way. So the
only thing I could think of is here's what I wrote.
I said, what if we put an enemy card back
in the opponent's hand, but the Kang cannot be played
after turn four, So that way and limit you to
be in like, hey, you just laid out iron Man.
Christ shouldn't do iron Man. Whatever big daddy you have

(16:51):
on that side. I'm just going to go ahead and
send the Hulk back to your hand. I don't think
that is extremely fair, but you lower Kang's call and
that will keep maybe you can keep him out there.
So but your other your opponent doesn't lose anything. Kang
shows up, it's just that time resets itself and he

(17:11):
goes back into your That's about the only thing I
came up with.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
What were your thoughts when you're talking about putting an
opponent's card back in their hand. That would mess up
certain cards like ghost Writer, Hella Morgan le Fay True,
sorry to say alex Or, but nobody's going to be
playing Alixor now. It's he hasn't been around long enough.
Maybe they'll find a way to make him work. But

(17:34):
name one comic Elixir was in let alone two or three,
So there are ways that would mess things up. Or
if it's a card that you know, I mean this
wouldn't be the whole reason to play it. But another
way this could mess you up is the good old
abandoned mine. It's like, oh, we destroyed all those rocks. Well,
now you got a rock back in your hand. I
could I could see that and kan could stay on

(17:55):
the board, you know, right right, Or it wouldn't even
have to be kyg. It could be a mortal.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
I think that if you return something to somebody's hand,
I could work for you, and it can also work
against you too. If there's an one reveal that you're
sending back. I think there's also an upside for the
card as well.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Maybe he could be like a three five or something
like that.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
He could have been in this. Well, no, they weren't
going to do that. They were not going to put
Kang in this first steps. All right, well there is
my number one, Evan Bevans. You have the floor with
your number one.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
He's been number one. Another list expressing our discontent and fine,
I accept Captain America is always going to be the
guy that gives other ongoings plus two. But come on,
let's get another. We have Sam Wilson Captain America. But
let's get another Steve Rogers. Maybe it's the triangular shield.

(18:45):
Maybe it's the weird energy shield from the two thousands
that felt like it should have happened in the nineties.
Or better yet, how about a cap wolf. You've got
to do something with Captain America. And if you feel
like he's set in his ways and he has a
place in Marvel's and he's gotten better with the advent
of Sam Wilson, but we gotta get something else for

(19:06):
Captain America. Maybe it's as simple as you can't reduce
the power of characters in this lane, which makes him
less than Luke Cage. Brian Benness made Luke Cage more
than a trivia question. We just need something where Steve
Rodgers is doing. This is the guy who, in the
comics and the movies face down Thanos with no backup whatsoever.

(19:28):
Worked out a lot better for him in the movie
than in the comics. Yeah, this is the guy who
when he speaks, when he says jump four and hercules
say how high and they don't think twice about it.
I like the idea that he boosts other characters. But
you know what, if we said over and over, Steve
Rodgers isn't even the best Captain America in Marvel. Snap. Yeah,

(19:49):
we need some kind of new version of Captain America here.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I agree. My suggestion was, and we kind of already
do have this there, but we need something a little
bit more with the shield, like right now. It the
way that it's written is if cap shield heads to
the cap, it gives the cap plus two.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Yeah, is that how it works?

Speaker 2 (20:12):
I mean, come on, Captain America. With Captain America's shield,
there should be something else going on, just a little
bit more. But yeah, I had this at my number three,
and this is a card that needs the cap Wolf
came to mind for sure. I was like, okay, we
get a cap Wolf. I don't know what that event
or season would be based on, who knows, how awesome thing? Yeah,

(20:35):
something incredible this season is awesome.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Maybe with cap wwol. If it's for every ongoing card
at this location, give cap Wolf a plus two.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
I like it talking about with the shield, since the
shield relies on moving and Sam Wilson can move it,
what if this new Steve Rogers is like Hercules, but
just for the shield.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
You bounce it off.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Yeah, Like the field comes in, the shield goes by
the location, so you could double up on Sam or
maybe something like that, or since the favorite line in
the MCU, I can do this all day. Maybe if
Captain America is destroyed, immediately return him to this location.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Okay, so he I guess that's like Wolverine, but Wolverine bounces.
This is I get it. It's kind of too close.
But regardless, he'd beat Indestructible.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Oh well, no, just the first time. Okay, so I
never got this one, but a long time ago, and
here it clicks. They had a Captain America theme set
and all the chases were different versions of cap There
was a cap Wolf, the Native American cap from sixteen
oh two and one where it was him falling out
of the ice block. I forget how the mechanic worked,

(21:51):
but it was something like you started him off and
there was stuff you had to do to get him
to fall out. Maybe there's something where it's like a
one cost zero power and he just while he's there.
But if you can take him out early or something
like that, maybe he comes out of the ice and
powers up.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I don't know, Like Uncle Ben, you just figure out
a way kind of like okay, throw down carnage carnage
doesn't kill Cap. Instead, he's shredding the ice and then
out Pop's Cap. And I mean it'd be a weird
situation with him beating a destroyed X, but yeah, maybe
it works.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Who knows.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
I mean Spider Man destroyed Dex sickle. Ah, this was fun, Evan,
We did a good one here. This was our top
five cards that need a first step revision. What'd you
call it?

Speaker 1 (22:41):
First first steps update? There we go. I like the
first steps reboot.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Perfect. Well, there it is, ladies and gentlemen, that is
our top five. We will be coming back at you
next month with our discussion on what this season turned
out to be like. And Harold, Oh yeah, good old Harold,
good old Harold.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Yeah, that's a pretty chunky moon over there. It might
have what you're looking for.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Let's get some plugs in. What do you got going
on over there? And asked fifty one.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
Well, we're coming off the super blog team up. I
read and wrote about the four issues you did five episodes,
about five issues and a soundtrack and a annotated bibliography
and an interpretive dance and all kinds of stuff, and
made the rest I dance. Yeah that was in time.
I talked about how Squirrel Girl is the best at

(23:36):
time travel and brought the receipts to show it. Then
I'm working on a new Naked Gun movie in the theater.
I thought it was about time I watched the copy
of Naked Gun. I bought a dollar tree a while back. Okay,
so I'm pretty sure I had. I wasn't sure if
i'd seen it, but I had, And a spoiler alert.
It's a funny movie.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
It is Leslie Nelson. Great.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
I am coming up on my three hundredth soon, and
just like you when you had your three hundred episode,
I am not doing anything about three hundred because yeah,
not my thing, but so working on something special for
that over at astros fifty one to blogspot dot com.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Yeah, as Evan talked about the super blog team up
was this past week. Put a lot of work into it.
I feel like I could have done some better script
reading when I did it, but that's all right. The soundtrack, though,
I will tell you I've listened to just working around,
Like the whole time I was working on our document,
I had the soundtrack to Timequake playing. This is just
