baseball season.

In my book, we gotta get we gotta get.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Through the it's here, but we got to get through
the NHL and NBA playoffs. But the college basketball season

a disembodied voice parts unknown LG.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Do you read hello, Hello, Hello, there we are.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I always like to test our technology live on YouTube. Yeah,
it always, you know, I always it's a journey. I
always hear him when we're testing things. But then I
just like without like I'm looking at you without having
him in the same room. Well, it's it's that you're
leaving it out to kind of feel like you're potentially
(02:27):
leaving yourself out to dry a little.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Bit, because he's just talking smack underneath his breath sometimes.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Sometimes well, and I can already tell the idiots blowing.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
One of these nights, he's just gonna leave us out
to dry, and he's gonna just give it a strong
like five seven second lane frost eight second delay before
he actually says.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Oh no.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
But as always, Fellows, happy to have you back in here,
Happy to.
Speaker 1 (02:54):

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Mandated.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah, hey watch watch. Indifference is the enemy. No trying
to build that channel. Of course, as always, there will
be an audio version of this thing to drop at
some point tomorrow, but you're getting the live taste of
things here on YouTube, as we will be going forward.
We're all ready of course today tonight with the championship game,
(04:03):
I had to juggle the schedule a little bit, but
we'll be back to eight pm next Monday night. But
when there's a National championship in your front yard. Literally,
I could have thrown a rock and hit like the
official NCAA lot attendant that was working the Alamodome from
where I live. You have to stop down and change
(04:25):
your schedule around the the not just the game tonight.
Obviously we're going on after, but the whole weekend was
It's just change any plans you had if you forgot
it was coming to town.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It looked like you had some fun this weekend.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Oh buddy, just what that brings? What you are two
episodes in already a professional. As always on Monday nights,
we start with a little weekend recap and you can
already imagine, you know, my with my house being where
it's where it is located. We were right in the
heart of things and it's you know, I guess I
(05:02):
sort of miss underestimated exactly how not how many people
they were gonna be downtown, because downtown was packed, every bar,
every restaurant it I would love. I'm gonna try to
get one of my buddies that owns a restaurant bar
right there across from the Dome, Charity Bar. I'm gonna
(05:23):
try to get him on soon. To talk about just
some of the you know exactly. We hear all these
numbers from city government it's going to bring such and
such millions of dollars to San Antonio. Well, I'd love
I'd love to hear from you know, actually talk to
a local bar restaurant owner from you know, the downtown
in the neighborhood that like, what kind of pop you know,
(05:44):
just straight from the horse's mouth, What did it do
for you? Because it looked like every place was packed.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Are you talking about the expansion.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
The the new arena, the whole overpass walkway, all that
kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Well, that'll be nice when it only gets here. But
just as it was right now with the infrastructure we have,
it was I mean, it seemed like it was.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
It seemed like it was a big win, especially judging
by you know, hearing multiple reporters say, you know, how
well San Antonio did carrying the event, how well they
did organizing it, how well how much just people liked
the city.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
It sounded it seemed like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I didn't really hear any big complaints about.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
It, which is you know, besides, we bitched a little
bit about the traffic and construction, and that was Still.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
We are lucky compared to other cities in La Rive,
especially La It's another world.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
We are lucky, but the excuse, the excuse shouldn't be
at least we're not as bad as Boston.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
You know, we could still do better, is all I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
But outside of that massively successful weekend you mentioned, you mentioned,
it looks like we had a little bit of fun.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Yeah, Facebook stocked you a little bit.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Curmudgeon, a geriatric millennial.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, properly.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Now we uh you know, as we are wont to
do on weekends with uh, you know, no kid related responsibilities.
And when an event this big is in town, you
got to match the you gotta match the level of
the event. And we we did our best to achieve that.
We went out quite a bit and it I was
(07:25):
we were all talking earlier, the roommates here, Uh she
watched the game with us, and you know we were
talking about how every bar you walked into you immediately identified,
Oh that's a journal that guy writes for the Ringer.
Oh you know, those are the barstool guys. Those We'll
talk a little bit about them. But like you saw
(07:47):
a lot of uh you know, journalists, you recognized media
personalities that you reconnize. I mean, hell, we saw the Hornet,
We saw Billy Napier, the head Florida football coach earlier today.
So just walking around, you know, and that we were
over by the Convention Center, were walking like over by
the Alamodome.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
So it was one of those weird.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
I know this person and they're sitting in my neighborhood
bar that I go to every weekend to watch sports,
and now there's a guy that.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Writes for It's like a disconnected feeling.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
You're like, I'm somewhere different, but I'm exactly where I
always go every week.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
And that's exactly what it was because also with the
journals that were in town, also came the influencers and
influencers in their own right, but also the only fans girls.
And let me just tell you, strike it where it's hot,
that's where. That's where it felt like. We were in
(08:49):
uh La Atlanta, Miami, you know, not exotic, but just
it felt it felt like a party town.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
You just felt a nipis come somewhere.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
It felt I've never seen as much plastic, I've never
seen as much work done in my neighbor like I
walk into my neighborhood bar, and all of a sudden,
it feels it's like I'm in a different city. These
are not the same, Like I know the people that
come here every weekend, Like I know generally what a
San Antonio crowd looks like, even if I don't know
(09:21):
who they are. These were not San Antonio crowds. These
were not your locals.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yes, below you, ma'am, I should not come here.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I immediately walked in and you know, my uh, you know,
six foot four self conscious ass immediately started thinking like,
oh wait.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
A second, Like I I I don't think I need
to be like belong around these people.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
I'm not a did you go to the bathroom, check yourself,
get your hair comb, make sure the stash is looking good.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Well, I mean I I had I had the roommate
with me, so I had to make sure.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
I had to make.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Sure there was no one there that was from the
male side of things that was gonna necessarily be looking
too much better than me.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
She's not gonna tell you if you got some on
your teeth. He's like, no, she's gonna leave me. She's
gonna hang me out to dress.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
She's just like, hey, isn't that that writer you said
you knew, go talk to him.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yeah, go make a fool of yourself. No, it was
we sat there, we set at the bar a couple
of times this weekend and played the game of uh,
professional entertainer.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Or oh you're telling the street walkers. Yeah, well you
know they travel again, the highly, the elevated, the elevated.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Only fans h girls that the event seemed to bring in.
It felt I was kind of waiting for Bonnie Blue
to show up at any moment.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah exactly.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Hey, those those women are millionaires and entrepreneurs. I absolutely
applaud their work everything. The uh, you know, big takeaway
again is it went at event like this happens in
your city.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
You got to take advantage of it. So we were out.
We were out as much as we could.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
We never went into the music festival, but just walked around.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
You could.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
I mean, it's not like the sound was contained. You
could hear it just walking around. Went to Uh, we
went to the fan fest.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
We're not front row.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
We're not standing up at the front people anymore. Even
though I did tell him a nice little hack to
do it, because we are tall and big enough.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Is you take the.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Flashlight and as you're walking up to the front, you
take your phone and shine the flash light in your
eyes and say security, security, Security, And you can do
that all the way up to the front.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Well, you can't have a five foot five guy doing it.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
No, you're not getting away with six.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Four and above.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, it's a nice little hack.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
It would take me back to my Aztec theater days
of just put the security voice on, get back into
that mindset. But it was I mean again, uh, we
went to the fan fest, saw ended up walking past
Christian Latner, which is just like that doesn't happen on a.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Normal weekend in my.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Town, in San Antonio, in our in our town. You
know that was buddy, Yes, yeah, Now if it had
been Steve Wojahowski, I wouldn't have been able to do.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
This stream tonight.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I would have been I would have been so exhausted
from the mental gymnastics of just playing that moment over
and over in my head. But of course, mentioning Duke
were we're gonna talk about We're gonna talk about the
game we just watched. We're gonna talk about the game Saturday.
Because all in all those three games were that was outstanding.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
That was the best you could ask for.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
You got four number one seeds, you got three awesome games.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
That's gonna be our comebacks. Yeah yeah, you.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Got, you got storylines, you got individual stars, you got upset,
you got and you got the stars either rising to
the occasion or looking lost at times. So, uh, final
four is gonna be our main segment. We're gonna tie
a little bit of Spurs talk again in with the
(13:05):
Final Four because we also over the weekend got officially
eliminate Spurs got officially eliminated from play in contention, So
we'll see you all of that will make up the
main segment. As far as I know, a lot of us,
you know, this weekend is gonna be a lot of
the same stories with the Final Four in town. But
(13:26):
I found myself, I mean, obviously I watch a lot
of sports on weekends, Yeah, a lot.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Yeah, that's what we do.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
A fanatical amount of sports. This weekend felt like I
turned the channel on at nine am for Premier League
games or nine am for Premier League games, and I
was watching all day.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
You know, that's like my teams. You know, we had
soccer in the morning. We had Rangers playing a day game.
We had stars playing back to back day games. We
had a.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Local SAFC on Big CBS, like all of it with
Spurs games. I mean, we had just NonStop. It felt
like everything was staggered very nicely. I mean, hell, Vo
Texas Open was in town even and those scores, yeah,
that was the weather. The completely changed the complexion of
(14:18):
that tournament. But just not only the final four, uh,
but just all across San Antonio. I mean s AFC
on national TV, the Valero Texas Open on national TV,
and the final four in your town. It was I
almost felt like Randy from like it was.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
It was almost too much, got too much sports. San
Antonio got to shine this weekend, which is very.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Nice, big time and again everyone seemed to say that
it's not just us saying that, as everyone seemed to
be saying celerities.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Everything.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Valero Open was great and that was to the final.
You know, they almost were blowing it the top guy.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
I think it was, uh, Harmon and Harmon. It was
just basically about just maintain par and you would win.
And someone that's played that course, that's of course, well
there's a reason it's okay.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Course I don't want to spend a lot of time
on it.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
But I wish they would rotate courses again, just because
I would love. You know, that's the sixth oldest golf
tournament in the US.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
That thing has so much tradition. I mean there were
you know, there were.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Major US Opens played or either US Opens or not
PGA champions No at Brack in the hearted, you know, downtown.
I would just love not that it would ever go
back to Brack. That would be awesome, but you know
they're the two lock and Terror courses.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Or shoot like like one who cares?
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Like the winner was what I think eight or nine
under harmon this week. But anyway, I wish they would
rotate it just because JW is so far out there.
That's more like a it's more like a Valero Texas
Open held in the hill country than it is in
at you know, proper San Antonio. But the sprawl anyway,
too much time on the blarro. But like I was saying,
(16:07):
weekend was a lot of sports, I would assume that
it was the same for you same a.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Lot of sports.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Just I was trying to get man one thing with
this weather going from one hundred degrees to fifty degrees
my knees were like, I'm getting old, no cartilage, and
I started the aqua therapy. Oh yeah, hey, I was ready.
I walked in there, your choice or doctors, Well, my
(16:34):
choice and the doctor okay.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
I was suggested as.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
A lot of trainers told me check her. You go
at the door, do what you're supposed to do. Just
try to get better quality of life. Yeah yah, yeah, right.
So I walk in there and no, I'm gonna be
the youngest person, not by thirty years old, but I
was the youngest person. I was ready to go, you know,
and I'm ready to get in the pool.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
And I can laugh at that joke because I've had
already at thirty nine.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
So I feel, I feel.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
This, And unbeknownst to me, it was just the evaluation.
So they had me to do a lot of box
squads's and box squads, get up and walk to this cone.
What's your flexibility like? And by the end I'm like,
we're not getting the pool. They're like no, and I'm like,
somewhere in my speedo for nothing could have told you
could have told me. I'm in there rocking a banana
(17:26):
hammock and people are looking at me and I'm just
I'm ready to go swimming.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
This is the thing, this is the thing about you.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
You could tell me, nah, I'm just kidding. That's okay,
But you could have also. You absolutely could have also
said hell yeah. I was in a like yes, like
what do you mean, I'm there for therapy trench Like
I immagin flexibility.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Exactly like you could have. You could have sold me
either way.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
That's my cheesy dad joke. There you go.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Well, I think the cheesy dad joke works for a reason.
It uh. I was curious though, because the.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Sport I know you watched the most of when you're
not doing water based therapy. I know baseball is your
most watched and last Monday we were talking about the
you know, the evil menace of the torpedo bat, and
exact God put that thing away, the Derek Jeter bat
(18:27):
that he's now showing on stream now. Last week it
was the panic that the torpedo bat was causing. I
would assume you've watched, if not every one of the
Yankees game since, but all of them.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Okay, so I missed half a game because I didn't
know it was on earlier, but I watched them all.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
We came back to Earth.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
We'll hold that against you that game, I know, right, And.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
We came back to Earth.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
The hype over the torpedo bat died down because, oh,
unbeknownst to us, we played a Yankee stadium with a
bunch of left handers in a short porch, and we
have Aaron Judge, the greatest home run hitter in our
generation at this time, and all of a sudden, you're like, oh,
they hit nine home runs in one game, surprise, surprise,
against a weak pitcher and week relief staff in Milwaukee.
(19:13):
They're getting it right now. But now we come back
to Earth. It's starting to shape now, even though Aaron Judge, you.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Know, okay, hold on holding. We're not doing this every week.
I'm not gonna be I'm not gonna be bogged down
by Yankees talk every week. LG, do you have do
you have the ability to give me? I'm gonna give you.
I'm gonna give you a Yankees minute every Monday night,
(19:39):
because here's here's the clock, here's here's the logic behind it.
My Rangers are eight and two, that is true. They've
got the best starting pitching e r A in the
al Right, it might be in all of baseball. They
they're not hitting their team batting averages under two hundred.
But I think the Rangers have staying power. Any team
(20:00):
in the history of baseball that has gone eight and
two over any ten game stretch during a season while
hitting under two hundred. They've all, like four of the
six have appeared in the World Series.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
That was kind of the Yankees last We overperformed with
our pitching, our young starters, and then we came back
to Earth.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
And I think that, I mean, clearly that's going to happen,
especially if they keep not being able to hit. They're
just smashing home runs right now with no torpedo bats yet.
I think Jock Peterson used one for a game, but
it hasn't gone back to it. But I think the
Rangers are going to be in the long fight for
the AL. I will feel bad for Astros fans because
(20:42):
some Houston fans, some of my Houston fans, have felt
bad about the Luca trade. I will say, if you're
an Astros fan and you saw Bregman win AL Player
of the Year or Player of the Week and Kyle
Tucker win NL Player of the Week.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Twist that knife that hurts.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I hate go crying a trash can.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
I hate that for you personally as a fan. I
love it for the prospects of my Rangers, but I
think Houston will still be around. I think at the
end of the day, the three teams that I have
the most confident or have the most confidence in is Texas, Houston,
and New York. So that being said, I think Astros
and Rangers fans both need to keep an eye on
(21:24):
what the Yankees are doing. So every Monday, that's al
for us. We're going to give you a Yankees minute.
We'll put you on the clock. You got a minute
to tell us whatever you want to about the past
week of Yankees baseball.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
I will get a veto if there's something important. If
there's some important, A judge hits a number three home
run game and well we have it for eighty six
home runs this year.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
We have an odd number. So LG will help us. Uh, yeah,
LG can override if he doesn't deem it worthy. LG,
do you have an ability to count a minute for us?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
He wants, he wants, he wants a virtual.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
Shot Yeah, one, two, three.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Oh my, I thought you were giving us an.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Now, I've already used my Yankee minute. We're done, Brooklyn
shout out.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
I have the ability to put a timer up.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Okay, we will have uh we will have some gimmicky
wacky uh bit to count a minute for captain starting
next week.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
But then when the Niners start playing, I'll get three minutes.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Well, NFL, NFL season changes everything. I'm sure you say
that often. And if NFL season changes everything, that's going
to be a lot of hell.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
We're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
We'll end up doing three minutes about the Broncos for
some reason, come in NFL season. That's just how the
NFL is dominates Broncos. But besides sports, besides Yankees baseball,
besides aqua therapy?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Am I amazing speedo?
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (23:00):
In the amazing speedo? It sounds uh, it sounds.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Like all in all, it was a good it was
a good week, good weekend, LG. We got anything for us.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Uh No, I'm a little mad that they the tariffs
have delayed the pre orders on the new Nintendo Switch.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
Okay, kind of, i I'm still it's only delayed the
pre order option plan that only so far.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Now Switch Zelda for Life, Man switches Fanta, hold your
hold your tongue.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
I'm a little worried about the pre orders being pushed back,
but I'm also I mean, it's not what it doesn't
come out officially till like June, right, yes, something.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Like that, but pre orders are supposed to open up
soon and not in the USA now.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Yeah, it's not.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
It makes me makes me wonder if that four hundred
and fifty dollars price point is still going to be
the price point.
Speaker 5 (23:59):
Well, yeah, it'll probably be five fifty.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Were well, and it's still it's this one's gonna be
full ten eighty. Which the first switch change it helps,
it helps.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
It was if you plugged it into a TV, yeah, if.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
You if you docked it, yeah, no, I I have
I have my concerns with the That was definitely a
headline that crossed my news death.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
I know, I usually don't pay attention to the headline,
but then it was like, oh, You're going to mess
up my pre order on the new switch because I'm
all about that new Mario card.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
And it was like two days after they had unveiled
all of that exactly card, they had just done the
Nintendo Direct.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Yeah. That was again there's some concerning signs we switch to.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Is one of them, maybe not the most important, but
it's don't buy a car.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
It's personally up there car right now? Yeah or may Yeah,
I don't know. Well yet to be determined.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
No, LG.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
I know, uh, earlier you were mentioning it's trash day
out here, and I was just having the mental because
I this was what I asked, you know, how was
your weekend? He was like, well, this morning I had
to run out to get my trash to the curb,
and so instantly I just imagine, you know, we're out
here in suburban I imagine LG a suburban dad like
(25:25):
waking up and grabbing robe, running trying to.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Walk down into the driveway.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
I mean that that's what happened.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
I was just really shocked because it was freezing this morning.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
For he sleeps in the buff.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Yeah, well now I don't.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
I don't do what Puma does.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
I hear that is uh the actual healthy way to
sleep now it uh right now, kid, let's go ahead
and just move this along.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Yeah, that was what that was what I led with
with the only fans girls at the bars this weekend. No,
of course, it sounds like I mean, all of us
were wrapped up in the Final four this weekend in
one way or another. So let's jump into the main
segment tonight. Of course, before we talk about the game
(26:25):
we just watched, we got to go back to Saturday,
because I you know, when you get four number one seeds,
and going back to what we talked about last week.
You know, I told you before the tournament started, the
top eight teams are clearly separated from everybody else. And
you know, watching watching the top four teams play each other,
(26:50):
I think you can clearly say the top four were
even you significantly separated from one.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Good game, Yeah, exactly one blowout and then they looked
like the was gonna pull away, and then the veterans
Houston just coming back, and you stay like, no way,
there's there's a minute left, there's still up by nine.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
No way, they're up by six with thirty seconds left.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Yeah yeah, I look again.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I mean, Duke, it's very stereotypical for a small town
white kid to love Duke, but it is what it is,
and it's it's where we're at. I mean, that's my
team when it comes to college basketball.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
I it was a rough final thirty five seconds, no
I had. It was a rough, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
I had flashbacks of the you know, when Duke came
back down eleven with fifty one seconds left in College
Park against Maryland back whenever I was a kid, and
I've always I have always held onto that game in
the back of my mind, especially when it comes to
college basketball, of just how crazy.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
A finish can become.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
You might not even see it coming like that gaming
Duke was down eleven less than a minute left. They
end up winning the game against a good, really good
Maryland team. Back then, I mean this was in the
Final four, in the late night game. The entire you know,
everyone is it's the game. Everyone was looking forward. I
mean Auburn Florida was great, we'll talk about it a
(28:19):
little bit, but Duke Houston was.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
You had the star power Cooper flag. You know who
said the Spurs facility was amazing.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Well, let's come on.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Now, if they're helping it, if they're helping anybody, they're
helping the MAVs after the Luca trade, Uh be icing
the envelope like you ing, you had the spotlight and
the game delivered just unfortunately for Duke fans like myself,
it was, uh, you know, a historic meltdown. There's no
way around it. And you know we can get into the.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Specifics of that foul call on Cooper flag. It's a
soft call. I don't think it's a foul. I can
see why they called it. I get it.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
You want to let you want to see him play.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
I want to see him play, kind of like tonight,
you know, in the championship game, we're going to talk
about it. The first half. I thought great officiating. Taylor
two has with way too many whistles in the second half,
and especially at that point in the game to call
something that soft that appear would appear to be so
influential on the outcome.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
It was only influential because Cooper Flagg had his shot
at the end of the game completely agree nine times
you think that's going in. Yeah, and he say even
said it. He's like, I'll take that shot every time.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
As he should. He got a good look and it was.
It was a good look.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
It was good defense, better offense to get the shot off,
and of course he misses the shot. But also go
back to Duke's inability to inbound the ball.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Because of Houston's fresh us. I mean That's where I
don't the rush to the rush to declare that Duke
threw that game away. Yes, they made mistakes. The the team.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Team that hadn't played in close games all season, Duke,
who had played gone through a much softer conference schedule.
The ACC was down the worst it's ever been in
my lifetime, versus the team in Houston that played won
a game in Kansas that they shouldn't have. WI could
(30:21):
come back at the end of it, had been tested
all throughout conference play.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
You know. Kelvin Sampson said it himself.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
What we didn't We didn't go nineteen and one in
Cupcake Conference or whatever.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
He said, Yeah, like we were, you know we were.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
They were battle were nineteen and one in the Big Twelve,
which you would is it's the second best conference and
it's the closest to the SEC, and the two of
them are so separate from every other conference.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
So I think you saw the difference from the one
year Dukers, yeah, to the three four year veteran team
of Houston.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
No doubt they.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
And not only that have been there just this year,
but guys that have been there throughout the process of
getting to this point.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Because that.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
H and they're you know that that family culture is
no joke. I mean those guys are so fully bought
in to Kelvin Sampson's style and and philosophy. Not to
say that the Duke players aren't with Shire, they just
don't have as much under the program. Yeah, let's talk
about that a little bit, because you know, flag got
(31:30):
called for the foul misses the final shot. He's still
the number one pick in the draft. Of course, that
would be like, there's no, that's not the that's not
the conversation. The more interesting one to me is Malawash,
the big man, the South Sudanese player.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Out for Houston.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Uh no, no, no, for Duke, the big steven foot to
kid who's projected top ten pick. You know, he was
an absolute no show against Houston.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I mean I think only I was like maybe one
or two rebounds.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
I'm not really, he just got played off the court.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
They were boxing the mountain. I I saw.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Houston's a rating that if you're not familiar with it,
one of the best kind of scouting rating algorithms is
by a dude named Ken Palm. H He's got the
He's got the Ken Palm ratings is what they're called,
and it just it's a good way to get a
kind of big scale picture. Look at a team like Houston.
(32:30):
I think they were the two hundred and forty ninth
tallest team in America this year if you just took
the average height of every team in America.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
So they're playing small balls.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
What you're saying, rights for flag six eleven, six nine,
six ten. Yeah, it's not the only seven to but
like Kanka Nipples six five sixty six.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Might even be six to seven.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
You know, Tyre's Proctor six five sixty four just had
You know, Duke was a much bigger team, but Houston's
physicality was way too much for that to overcome. I
mean they wanted it and they played. They played like
they had the height of Duke on their roster. I
mean they're they're six foot seven, guys were playing like
(33:15):
seven footers.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
I mean, the it was almost like tonight too. They
were out, they were out rebounding.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Them exactly easily. And that's who Houston has been all year.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
That's what they are, that's what they are based in
the toughness, the physicality, the we're gonna out rebound you,
We're gonna hound you. On defense and force turnovers, creating
you know, fast break opportunities for us. And unfortunately, you know,
Duke did a great job of handling it until they didn't,
and and that until they didn't in the last it
(33:44):
came in the last two minutes and then that last
thirty five seconds was that was uh. I think those
kids will be thinking about that last half minute for
the rest of their lives.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Again.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
You know, Cooper is gonna be the first round pick.
The Nipple is gonna be a lottery pick. Malawash is
the one. I think some people are seriously at least
asking asking questions they already might have had, but asking
them louder now after.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Seeing him perform against Houston.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
But I also saw wink I could be coaching is
can he be coached up? Someone's gonna take a risk
on him and pick him in the lottery because they're
like seven for two. I think he's got too much
attributes not to be great.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
His potential is still there.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
That's it's and he's only been playing basketball for like
three or four years exactly.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Someone's gonna they're gonna be like, we can coach him up.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
It makes me wonder, you know, Jannis was and not
comparing him to you, I'm not saying that, but some
guys that are entering the American basketball system at his age,
like a Yiannis or like a Embid at Kansas, you know,
just from a international you know league or upbringing into
the US. Sometimes that that tough not toughness, but that
(34:58):
intensity is no something that's there at the beginning. But
it doesn't mean it's not going to show up. I mean,
like young Jannis was no physical, intimidating presence. As soon
as he grew into his body, he became an.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
When he started getting into the playoffs with Milwaukee, yeah,
he was a shadow of himself and then all of
a sudden he started getting that experience again, that playoff experience.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
It's not to compare malaw Wash to a guy that
wins MVP and it never finishes lower than third in
the voting. I'm not saying that, but I do think
the you know, the upside is still there, and I
wish I could give credit where it's due. I saw
somebody put out you know, Houston might be the most
physical team he ever plays against, like the teams in
(35:42):
the NBA, Like Houston plays like the nineteen eighties Pistons.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Oh yeah, in the league is as physical as especial.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Elbow.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
They're doing everything it takes to win if you can
get away with it. They're pushing, they're making the officials
become the main character in the movie. Yeah, and majority
of the time they you know, that physicality goes uncalled,
which again is how I prefer to watch basketball, at
least at the college level.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
You know, the pros, I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
See them beating the hell out of each other as much,
just because there's way more skill.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Let's go from the defense from Houston to the offense
of Florida.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Yes, yeah, on the second game of the Final four, Yeah,
that's a that's a great. That's a great because the
guy that has been Floorida's engine this whole run, uh,
the Iona transfer, Walter Clayton Junior. Amazing, amazing that those
those thirty four points in that first game Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
I mean it seems like he just runs to the
three and jacksonvia shot.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
A La kurk.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
There were there were flashes of Steph Curry and there
were flashes of uh, you know, him not being the
most athletic guy on the court, like Steph Curry, but
being the most impactful and being the guy the big
time funnals the defense or you know, pulls the defense
like a like a magnet towards him because he's such
a threat anytime he crossed half court. And you know,
(37:10):
anytime you're doing something in the NC doublea tournament that
hasn't been done since Larry Bird, you're having a pretty
hell of a run.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Through the NC Double A turnament arguably the best college
player of all time.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Argue very easy.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
I mean, uh yeah, of course, look not to get
bogged down, but you look at the you know, the
runs of UCLA with with Kareem and Walton going undefeated
all those years. But I mean, that's that's basically the list,
Like adding Bill Russell at San Francisco and we're basically there.
But it was him thirty four points Saturday night after
(37:49):
scoring thirty points in the Elite eight game, as the
first time a guy has scored thirty or more points
in the Elite eight and then the Final four since
Larry Bird at Indiana State.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
So and he did something Larry Bird didn't win it.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
All, and he ends up winning it all exactly. So
I had quickly I mean, I think a lot of
y'all are, like, you know, not just because I'm a
Duke fan, but the Duke Houston game was the talking
point coming out of Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
That was the game. I woke up Sunday morning still thinking.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
About not to overshadow Clayton Junior's performance in the first game,
but really Auburn ran out of gas. Florida's depth just
finally beat them down in that second half. That Auburn
team was banged up. I mean, Broom wasn't fully one
hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Beginning of the tournament.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah, last game in the Elite eight, Yeah, and then
there I'm blinking on his name, the swing forward Auburn has.
He's gonna end up having to have thumb surgery. He
tore a ligament, but he was playing through that. And so,
you know, just being as banged up as they were
and not having the depth that Florida has, that Florida
(39:02):
was able to go to combined again with with Clayton Juniors,
they played a hell of a game. Yeah, entertaining like
you were saying, rarely, I mean really in a Final
four and a national championship game out of the three games,
like you said, you get one good game, Yeah, like
one of the games Saturday or the National championship game
is like, you know, majority of the time, or at
(39:23):
least lately, you know, we haven't really had back to
back compelling national championship games. It's been like, oh, here's
Gordon Hayward almost banking in a.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Half court buzzer beater.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Oh, and now here's Baylor just physically beating the hell
out of Gonzaga. You know, it was you got both
polar opposites and uh tonight. Of course, obviously after we
finished watching it earlier, that is absolutely what we got.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
I'm it was a tailor two halves.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
Yeah, I mean the first half I missed a little big,
a little bogged down, but I was there's some highlight
plays that dunk.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Yeah, I had five highlights in the first three and
a half four minutes of the game. I mean it
just instantly the game had such rhythm and cadence. It
was like, all right, hold on.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
To it totally, like we're four fouls called yeah in
the first first half something. And the only the only
thing that threw off any of the rhythm compliments to
Houston was Florida had nine first half turnovers.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
I mean, besides thee and lopside.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
I'll tell you this is how I know it was
a good product in the first half. My uncle, who
loved sports, basketball is lower on the total pole. I
mean big football, baseball, hockey might even be ahead of basketball. Honestly,
but he texted me and you know, was saying, like,
(40:52):
hell of a first half. The they were letting them
play through the contact.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Like I loved it. I was entertained, so like for
a new utrol like him who's.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Not locked into college basketball all year all the way
to a fanatic who's watching that's like me for Tuesday
games in week.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
One maybe called a Duke North Carolina game. That's about it.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
That was the best we could have asked for from
all spectrums of fandom.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
It was a great It was a great tournament.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Great product in the first half.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
But as you say, uh, incomes the rep too many,
way too many whistles in the second half. And I
get you know, like the kid slamming the ball for
the technical, you got to call that a technical. That's
the head coaches jumping up off the bench. That felt
a little that I think they thought it was a
(41:44):
player and then they didn't want to take it back.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
But if you have two technicals in the second half
of a game, and in the second half of the
National Championship game, usually that's a sign like.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
It seems like you're employee, you see.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
And at the time, I'm I mean Florida down twelve,
got down as much as twelve.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
In this game.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
Walter Clayton Junior was hitting nothing. He had no points
in the first half nothing, really didn't have any points
for the first ten minutes, twelve minutes.
Speaker 4 (42:12):
They couldn't hit they have They had like sixteen turnover
or twelve turnovers.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
The big men were missing layups at the rim. It
looked like Houston was ready to clamp down on defense,
continue to you know, drive the ball on off back attack.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Yeah, And I.
Speaker 4 (42:28):
Will say when their big men got in foul trouble,
when they got their fourth fouls and they had to
take them out, Florida took advantage.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Yeah, And that's when.
Speaker 4 (42:39):
We saw Clayton start driving to the hole or feeding
the pack, feeding the ball down low. There was a
there's a bunch of miscues down low and then Clayton
showed up and started hitting some threes like he like
I've been seeing him do all tournaments.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
And again you also got the refs.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
Blowing more whistles, getting the gays into uh the earlier Yeah,
they were elongating the hell out of that game in
the second half. But again I don't think there it
didn't seem like there was, you know, from watching it
without having the numbers in front of me, it didn't
feel like there was really any massive bias towards the
(43:19):
whistles in the second half. I'm just I just felt
it there's too many just in general.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
There was a lot of a lot of cupcake fouls.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Yeah, and I think you know, Florida got into the
one and one, like one foul ahead of Houston. Florida
got to seventeen fouls and then.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Like seven fouls with Houston, and then it was.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
And then it started with it was almost like they were, oh, hell,
now we've tipped the scale too much.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
Now we got to call more to get it back
to even. But but the last five.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
What five six minutes? Was that was a great product?
Speaker 1 (43:50):
Yes, yeah, it was again except for the lay.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
Okay, god, let's let's let's jump straight to it, because
really the last two possessions for Houston. It looked like
all of a sudden, the urgency that had been there
from the tip.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
They should have went two forward. Why they didn't go
for two for one? They were sitting there walking up
the court like they had the lead and it was
Florida that need to be when they were down one. Yeah,
and it was Florida that had the lead, and I'm like,
what are you doing? You want to go two for one?
And what happens? He drives to the hole. They swiped
(44:29):
the ball turnover.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, what was that forty three seconds left when they
started that possession?
Speaker 2 (44:33):
And then they swiped the ball at twenty seconds.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Right, So you would have had thirteen You would have
had thirteen seconds to get a shot off if you
were trying to get the two for one.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
I can kind of.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
Foresight now with the the f up at the end,
What if you had thirteen seconds left?
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Yeah, and you don't know, you don't know what's going
to happen at that point. I can kind of under
I understand the strategic side of not wanting to force
a show with that much on the line. You're only
down one, so it's not like you're down two. If
you're down two, and you foul. They make both of them.
Now you're down four, you down when you're only down one,
(45:11):
you miss, you foul with at that point, like twenty
seconds club, it's all you can still play. So like
I can understand at first, you know, okay, I get it.
You didn't want to rush a shot, you didn't want
to go two for one. Still no urgency on that possession.
A lot of dribbling from the top of the perimeter,
not a lot of movement off ball. Houston didn't generate anything. Uh,
(45:34):
and you get the turnover. That was the turnover on Sharp,
which unfortunately is how both of those ended.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
That's why it went out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Hey, now that's when it went out of bounds on
that play.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
Then of course foul Florida.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Uh, it makes one of two, Houston gets the ball
back and then yeah, that final play, clearly, you could
tell as soon as they were again showing not a
whole lot of urgency, as soon as they crossed half court.
That told me immediately they're they're running curl screens for
the three.
Speaker 1 (46:11):
They're they're shooting there.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
They're aiming to get a three point attempt out of
this possession.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
You don't.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
You don't dwindle the clock there unless you're hoping you
take the final shot of the game and it's a
made three pointer put to put you up by one.
You're not so again, I don't mind that strategy. It's
the National Championship game. Go for it all play to win.
The problem they run LJ Cryer off one side on
(46:38):
the screen.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
The problem is everybody knew it was coming.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Exactly, and again they wait late to get the set
to initiate the set, end up swinging the ball to Sharp.
I think he attempted the shot with like five six
seconds left, goes up, realizes the shot is going to
get swatted to Bernie. There's my sports dad joke for you.
I hate it when announcers do that, but I just
(47:03):
did it. So instead of shooting the ball, he drops it,
but now he can't touch it because it would be traveling.
So he's waiting for a teammate to trump come try
to get it. And all of us were sitting there saying,
just grab the ball.
Speaker 4 (47:16):
Just grab the ball, just turn it over and try
to do a Houston and get it on a lockdown
defense exactly on the You're still you have options you're
still only down two, there's like five and a half.
Maybe you touch it with still six seconds left, you
foul immediately, and you pray Florida misses a free thrower too.
Speaker 1 (47:36):
You still would have.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
I know, it's countering their free throws exact Florida, you were,
you were, you could have felt somewhat confident that you
were at least going to get a shot to tie
that thing.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
And I understand the counterintuitive nature of, oh crap, if
I touch this, it's traveling, But I think strategically the
best move would have been rabbit immediately or just don't
even drop it, just come down with it and be like, well, crap.
Speaker 4 (48:04):
That's Monday morning quarterback. But that's why it all ends
to me. It was the play before that mattered everything. Yeah,
I don't agency. Yeah, going for two for one, acting
like you were up when you were the one down,
that was that was the game for me.
Speaker 3 (48:21):
Yeah, killing all of your well, I mean, taking so
much time off the clock that it eliminated some of
your options there at the end of the game. So
I again, all in all, what more could you have
asked for?
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Man? I mean, it was I think Vegas.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Vegas had the line open Florida minus one and they
end up winning by two. So I mean it it
played out exactly like you would have wanted.
Speaker 1 (48:49):
Of course, I know I have.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Way, way, way more Houston fans than I do Florida fans. So,
you know, condolences to condolences to the boys at mcphinnigan's
and all of the Houston Cougar contingent that was in
the crowd, because it was Here's the other thing, you know,
living over in the East Side Saturday, very little neighborhood
(49:13):
parking because all the teams are there, all the fans
are staying in hotels downtown and or at Airbnb's. They're
they're not driving their car into the neighborhood day of
to go.
Speaker 1 (49:27):
To the game. They've been there all weekend. So like Saturday,
it was kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Because I make money like parking, my parking.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
I made money.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
I had come at me city. I made money. Don't
worry about it. You'll got plenty of it too. We
can all share.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
And I saw all your little meter maids that were
working the work in the neighborhood to tack, you know,
attacking some of the citizens. Some of my neighbors and
my friends trying to take money out of their pocket.
How there, you just worry about the construction project and
leave us alone over there. But Saturday it was weird
(50:05):
because you know, like when when Bad Bunny or def
Leopard play at the Alamo Dome, my neighborhood, like, I
can't get anywhere it is it's a parking lot.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
Everywhere is a lot.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
You just walk, Yeah, And so Saturday we were bracing
ourselves for that kind of crowd, and there was some
street parking, but not nearly as much tonight, Buddy. I
I mean that reports from inside the dome where it
was heavy, heavy Houston crowd, majority Houston fans, and I
believe it because I think I think they all parked
(50:39):
in my neighborhood tonight, Like.
Speaker 1 (50:43):
Well, and you know that's the beauty of like, well.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
You know, if they win, you know, go back to
Saturday night and you tell yourself, well, if they win tonight,
we'll just drive over Monday morning. And that's that's what
the majority of Houston fans did.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
Uh, they drove over day of to the game tonight.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
So again, sorry condolences to all the Houston friends. But
on the other side of it. You mentioned your aqua
therapy made you feel old and the weather's making you
feel old.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
Dude, I think makes me look old, so it looks
it makes you look sophisticated.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Now I'll tell you what makes me feel old. Todd
Golden is my age. The Florida head coach.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
He is my He's total bro coach. He's total broke coach.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
They did they did a piece with the Florida team
showing some of their practice footage from from earlier in
the season, and he's he's literally straight, Like he tells
one of his players. He's like, hey, man, I saw
that new whip you got.
Speaker 1 (51:45):
I saw you.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
I saw it on in I saw you flashing it
on Insta, and it's just like, dude, exact, yeah, very much.
It basically sounds like like Kevin Burkhard, Kevin Brohard trying
to be cool like it was.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
So it was very broy But hey.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
My book of Bonyx is up to date. Pity you know.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
He's got all of it.
Speaker 4 (52:07):
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I'm just not gonna say.
That's why I do.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
That's a thousand percent that's why Steph and I do.
Who won the Internet on Friday, so I can try
to stay up to date on whatever the hell is
taking over Lingo was But Todd Golden thirty nine years
old now the youngest coach to win a national championship.
Florida three national championships now in the last twenty five years,
(52:32):
seven and eight back to back with the no Al
Horford Noah Corey Brewer triumphant and now this twenty twenty
five team. Todd Golden only thirty nine years old. If
he stays at Florida, I don't think there's another college
program he would really be looking.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
To jump to. I think anytime soon it would be.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
If anything, it would be an NBA exit like Billy Donovan.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
Actually, I think he's gonna stay.
Speaker 4 (52:59):
I think with in aile, all the Southern plantation owners, man,
they're all.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
Pulling their money.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
Oh yeah, and now they're spending money on basketball players,
not just football players.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Well and and you know, Todd Golden had some of
his own controversy and internal investigation at the beginning of
the season, and the administration stood by him. I would
imagine he's probably not too uh, you know, not too
quick to want to leave an administration that stood by
him through all of that.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Uh, and you know, seemingly at least what they told
us found to not be into bad a violation of
their ethics there in Gainesville's the question to me is,
you know, it's Florida that the head of that kind
of second tier group of college basketball blue bloods right now.
(53:51):
You know, I remember they made the national Championship game
back whenever I was a kid with Mike Miller, and
then they had the you know, the the back to
back titles.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Now they've got this one.
Speaker 3 (54:02):
If they add another one in the next two years,
either go back to back or win two out of three.
Speaker 4 (54:08):
They gotta go. They gotta go deep. They gotta go deep.
At least a couple more times we considered that. I
think the ACC relied on their name power a lot
for recruiting and then got to wake up call when
the money spoke.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
So the SEC is, I mean, if he keeps doing
this in the SEC, yeah again, I mean, they're they're
set up to be a final four team, perennial perennially
as long as he is at the head of that ship,
it seems, you know, and then players in the transfer game,
you know, they they it seems like they in three
(54:50):
He's been there three years and they've won a national championship,
so it seems like they understand the mission and they
understand how to get there. So uh again, as a
college basketball die hard, I sat there on the couch earlier,
you know, when we got to the minute mark of
the game, and I just thought to myself, like, man,
(55:10):
these are the years that keep me tuning in in
week one. You know, these are the years that when
you get a year like this it I mean this
not to get too sappy, but like watching College World, well,
it made me feel like I was ten years old again.
I mean, it made me feel like I was a
(55:31):
look because as I get older and watching college kids,
it doesn't have the same appeal anymore. You know, when
you're when you're in high school and you're watching college sports,
you're thinking like, hey, man, that could still be me.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
You know, there's still like, oh, I still.
Speaker 2 (55:45):
Got a couple of friends out there. I could have
been pro bro.
Speaker 3 (55:47):
Hey, well hey, learn to punt, learn to punt and
walk on at long five.
Speaker 2 (55:54):
But now these are the right long as not my
way to one hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
These are the it's not a bad living, it's living.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
These are the years that make sticking with College of Basketball,
all these years of my life worth it. It was
a hard hard to point except for my Duke fandom
and them not being the ones winning tonight, It's hard.
Speaker 1 (56:17):
To point at any part of.
Speaker 3 (56:19):
The College of Basketball season that wasn't entertaining, because again,
these teams were good. We got a thirty six and
four Florida Gators team beating a thirty five and five
Houston Cougar's team. Both of these teams they played in
the best two conferences in America, one in the SEC,
one in the Big Twelve, and they both entered the
(56:39):
national championship games with four losses each.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
Now a football fan gonna start clapping and chomping at
the bit for SEC basketball.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
Oh, I think there's I think there's a decent thing.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
I've heard it.
Speaker 3 (56:55):
Yeah, I know, I think there's a decent amount of
crossover in general. I mean basketball, it just it's I
prefer it, of course, I love baseball my favorite basketball second.
But uh, there's all I mean. SEC football fan is
always going to.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
Be the loudest.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
Yeah, I mean, as as it should be. As it
should be.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
But I do you know, having the having the amount
of talent the SEC has right now in basketball, and
the way these guys are recruiting the hell out of
you know, even mid tier SEC schools.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
It's it's going to be entertaining.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
Maybe not to this level, we can only hope to
ever get to this level, but it's going to be
entertaining every year. One other thing I can't go without
mentioning at whatever point of the game they did it,
I think it was at the under eight minute time
out when they had the whole crowd singing, don't stop believing,
(57:51):
holding like that. There is nothing more san Antonio than
having the crowd sing like eighties journey song.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
Like the eighties journey song is.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
Boston Sweet Caroline.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
Okay, you mentioned I called it.
Speaker 3 (58:08):
We were talking earlier about you know, Deve Portnoy of
Barstool dis and Pop talking about how much he hates him.
We were talking about Barkley talking about the big old
bitches in our town and and how you know both
of those guys are in town as personalities playing their
greatest hits. It's on the big stage. That's their bit,
(58:29):
that's their greatest hit, that's what they do.
Speaker 1 (58:31):
They know what's going Their goal is to get engagement
from you.
Speaker 3 (58:35):
They know what's going to work. Oh yeah, I'm just
gonna go shop on pop for an hour. And it
wasn't even an hour, it was And they understand that.
That's why those guys are where they're at. That's why
they're so successful. They understand that better than.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
Than people will toast right to the heel and baby
face back and forth.
Speaker 7 (58:55):
Oh Chuck, don't say that, and then third Wheel there,
I uh, I said it.
Speaker 3 (59:09):
I mentioned earlier, I mentioned before the game when we
were talking about that all uh, you know together.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
That's the equivalent of THELM.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
That's the equivalent of Journey coming to town and playing
don't stop believing like they're not going to come to
San Antonio and not play that song their greatest hit.
Chuck's not gonna come to San Antonio and not say
something Truro related or women related. Portnoy is not gonna
come here and and trying to be yeah and try
(59:41):
to be Actually, my expert analysis about the weekend is no,
he's gonna come and say pizza.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
I love y'all.
Speaker 3 (59:48):
I respect the Spurs, but f pop all right, we're barstool,
you know, like it's you can't get you can't get
so tied up in that, but hearing the whole and
holding the cell phone lights like, man, yeah, that was
I would.
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Say that was the if the game. If the game being.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
As good as it was is my high as well
as me getting my ice Kareem Bucket hat fanased.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
I feel like I'm your sweet Hat.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
I'm doing my best Nick Mullen impersonation right now. Shout
out Stavey, who was in town this weekend to uh,
you know if that if those are the high points
of it. I think the worst part of the week
it was the crowd singing don't Stop Believing.
Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
But again.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
So so San Antonio, which is also why I kind.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
Of loved it because it was such a loud pop.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
I mean, I was getting video sent to me of
you know, the crowd singing along to White Stripes seven
Nation Army before the game.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Uh, perfect hype song.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
I did not have on my bingo card the crowd
singing journey in the middle of a close game and
the second piece for the National Championship. But I should
have expected it, because God bless it, that is our town.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Real quickly before we get out of here.
Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
I mentioned also over the weekend the Spurs were officially
eliminated from postseason contention.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Yeah, bust out your trombones.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
But I think to a man, obviously with the injury
issues the Spurs have had with Wimby being out with
now Fox ended up having the surgery and and so
Han's injury plug season, this feels this was a snake
bitten year.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Oh I know about Snake.
Speaker 3 (01:01:41):
You know, like, it's not God everything Niners or Yankees.
It's not a It's not such a detriment or setback
to panic. And I think a lot of this summer
the young and he's not I mean he's not a
part of it. Sure, bring him back, but he can't
(01:02:03):
be your starting point guard. You gotta find you gotta
have Fox next to Castle, and then you've got to
figure out what you're doing with Basel.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
How much of a piece needs to be its to
be a six man.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
And for the contract they signed him to, that's a
little rich, but not terribly rich. I think the big
thing to me is there's going to be names on
the trademarket this offseason. This NBA offseason is going to
have some pieces moved, like Kevin Durant first name at
the top of that list.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
He's out of Phoenix. Oh yeah, that that team has imploded.
If anything, the Rockets might be able to go big
and try to attract Corey Booker with some of the
assets a Corey Booker, Corey, Yeah, don't get me Devin Booker. Uh,
you know that the Phoenix is going to be looking
(01:02:54):
to making moves.
Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
Who knows what Joannis and Milwaukee do in the playoff
and how you know the rumblings of that. Katie's thirty
eight years old, and the idea that bringing in another
basically another I mean, he's way more productive than CP
three is at this point still, but bringing in another
(01:03:16):
guy that doesn't match up with their roster timeline right now.
I think the two things, it's you got to focus
on the summer at this point and you play out
the season, of course, But you got the two draft
picks locked in, one of them going to be somewhere
in the back part of the top ten, the other
one right in the middle of the first round. Yeah,
(01:03:39):
like basically eighth and sixteenth. That might have changed a
little bit over the last five days, but you got
to look at. With as good as this draft is,
you're going to have a chance to get a foundational
piece with that first pick somewhere around a you know,
hopefully it jumps up. Hopefully Cooper Flag is loving the
Spurs Prack facilities next year as a member of the
(01:04:02):
Spur of course. But even if it, if it only
jumps up a couple and you get to six, you
still got a good swing at a big piece. If
it stays in the top ten, you're going to get
somebody that's a part of your future, or you're gonna
have the chance to draft.
Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
This is not gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
This is one of those drafts where the guys that
end up going like sixteenth through twentieth, one of those
guys is going to become an All Star. Like this
draft is so deep, but yet there's so much conflicting
preferences among NBA scouts.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
The teams needs yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
Like like Ca Nipple might not be a multi time
All Star, but he's going to be a solid role
player that you're gonna get.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Someone's gonna get in the in the.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
Mid first round because some other teams doubt his athleticism
at the next level.
Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
Solid doubts, but can't wait for the lottery. That can't wait.
Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
That's the next thing.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
So what we need to going into the summer the
draft lottery, see where the Spurs end up there, and
then the two things I said, you know, focus on, uh,
the future and youth and not not rushing the process.
I don't think we I don't because.
Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
Even though that's not his favorite player, that's his favorite
PA player of all times.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
Spurs are not.
Speaker 4 (01:05:24):
Going to put a thirty nine year old who demands
that much attention, that much you know, needs a fake
ig account or a fake Twitter account, the drama that
comes around him.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
Oh god, yeah, Burner, no, Burnt Burner, k D and
san Antonio would be pretty damn We.
Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
Got three because it's a veteran and he can coach
up our youngins. That's the reason why we got him.
And we're not going to do that to try to
win it all next year. And that's we know what
we got.
Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
That's where I say, you know, with the amount of
future assets they still have and the amount of un
certainty across the rest of the league with some big
names like if if Booker becomes available, Houston's gonna throw
assets at that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Yeah, and Houston's a good team right now.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
And they have the assets the Spurs can enter that
could enter that conversation with the assets they have, and
then it would just be a matter of which package
the Sun's like. Better not to specifically throw names out there,
but I really think there's going this is gonna be
a summer where not only is the draft really good,
which also is I think going to lead teams that
maybe fall in the draft lottery, they're gonna try to
(01:06:34):
trade back up higher in the draft. Perfect example, the
Luca draft year, MAVs end up losing out. They should
have had like second or third best odds, They drop
all the way to five.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
They know they want Luca. They end up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
Trading back up to number three, and that's how you
get Luca to Dallas, trade young to to Atlanta. In
that draft, I think you're gonna see some trades like that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
On night, there's gonna be a lot of movies.
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
I think there's gonna be a lot of movie and
it's it's the kind of summer where I think a
lot of teams, specifically like the Suns, are going to
make moves just because they feel the pressure to make moves. Yeah,
the Suns are capped out where as they are currently constructed,
they're feeling pressure to make moves. It's just a matter
of what moves they make. But I think we're gonna
see movement and first be patient.
Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
Yeah, next week, I can't wait to see how the
West falls out, because we got four teams tied right now.
Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
And yeah, what is three through seven all the time? Yeah? Lakers, Yeah, Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (01:07:36):
Memphis, Memphis, yea, and they're all stars on all those teams,
right and way Denver is Denver? No, Denver got up
because they beat.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Yeah Denver Denver might. I can't remember the order off
the top of my head, but I know till next week. Yeah,
Well it's funny. It's funny you see that because on
Wednesday's episode, I'm going to talk a lot of gonna
have full flashed Luca thoughts with a with a buddy
of mine who's a MAVs fan, and then we're also
going to talk NBA, nice generic talking and right here,
(01:08:09):
what does what does that say?
Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
Right there? Cat? Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:08:13):
Western Conference?
Speaker 3 (01:08:14):
Crazy Western Conference on the list for Wednesday?
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
You just put me on the spot your hand, right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:20):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (01:08:22):
Don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
I don't know how I do it though. Wednesday coming down,
we're going to talk NBA uh and then Friday the
roommate bear with me. The roommate the last three weeks.
Three weeks ago, she was in San Jose, two weeks ago,
she was in New Orleans. Last week she was in Chicago.
Got back into San Antonio late last week from Chicago.
Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Pushed the push. Yeah, I don't don't. I don't don't
put that level woman up, don't put that she's here,
she's under this roof. You're loud enough.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
She didn't hear. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
I think she's already looking at how she can drive
to her next trip. But no, she is back and
fully back in the swing, rested and recovered from.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
Three straight weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
And we're actually we're going to the beach this weekend,
so I know, yeah, we've recorded a Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Yeah, it's gonna be rough.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
We've recorded a Friday episode from the beach before the beach,
and I think we have that on the docket. Actually
I don't think I know we have that on the docket.
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
So with that being said, again.
Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
Y'all quick hitters, O what a time, real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:09:33):
Almost the same amount of games the same exact amount
of game. You taught me a lot of history of
Wayne Gretzky's not a hockey buff, and about how the
assists are ridiculous Underwayne.
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Well, I got to thinking about it because, you know,
thinking about like the MLB, like home run race, like
when when McGuire and Sosa were going for it and
then when Bonds was it was full. It was full Royds,
but it was full attention of the sports world and
the OVI. You know, Avechkan chasing the record got a
lot of attention, but it didn't get the level of
(01:10:06):
attention at first that I thought. I was like, Oh,
that's kind of weird. He's about to break Gretzky's goal
scoring hockey. Well, as we were talking about, uh, you
could take away all of Gretzky's goals he ever scored
in his career, take all the goals away.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
This is amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
He would still be the all time points leader in
NHL history just based off of his assists alone. And
if you don't know hockey, total points is how they
like a point a game guy. A point of game
guy is like hitting three hundred in baseball, And they
count assists and points each as one. So take all
(01:10:44):
of Gretzky's goals away, He's still the leagues all time.
He still has more assists than second place ya Mar
Yager has goals and assists combined. Gretzky averaged one point
nine to two points a game for his career, so
every game, while the league was trying to while the
Stars were trying to be point a game players, he
(01:11:05):
was damn near two points a game every night.
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
Just insane.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
That'sous.
Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
Second quick hit. I'm glad you're reminded me finished white lotus.
Not gonna say anything, don't worry, no spoilers, no spoilers,
but the one thing, one thing called one thing. I
would say, it's pretty funny to me that Stiffler's mom
and Uncle Rico are a massive part.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
Put that together for me, I like, I was, like,
he looks so familiar, shatters your brains like it breaks
my brain, like hair, makes a lot of difference.
Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
He's been in every season, but now apparently he's a coup.
No no spoilers, no spoilers. He uh yes, Uncle Rico,
and then of course Stiffler's mom from the first two seasons.
So just our childhood of pop culture ending up now,
mister Yeah ended up being a foundational piece of arguably
(01:12:07):
the most.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
Popular show on right now.
Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
So again, thank y'all for writing along on this thing.
We will be back live next Monday, back to eight o'clock.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Of course.
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Check out the audio version of this podcast tomorrow. I
will release it through all of your normal podcast channels,
and then we will talk to y'all Wednesday, back on
the audio podcap as always.
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Brother, I appreciate you.
