Light the Beam.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Welcome into the Tuesday edition of the Sports Cave with
Biggest Puma and light the beam on the NBA season.
We are hours away from NBA basketball tipping off. I
am your host, Sam Freeze. If you can't tell, I
am really excited for meaningful basketball to be back in
our lives. If you want to talk some basketball with me,

(00:29):
you can always reach out on Twitter at Biggest Puma,
on Instagram Biggest Dot Puma broadcasting Live to tape Minor
Detail once again here on the East side of San
Antonio where the NBA season is tipping off tonight, but
we are still two days away from Spurs opening night.

(00:49):
I mentioned the NBA season getting up and running. Tonight,
we have our first TNT doubleheader of the season, Cat's
debut for the Knicks at Celtics. Celtics will be raising
their championship banner, and then the nightcap tea Wolves at Lakers,
where it sounds like we're going to get Brownie James'
NBA debut, as the Lakers appear to be focusing more

(01:13):
on marketing and selling jerseys than actually winning games this year.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
But we'll talk a lot of NBA on the program.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Tomorrow, We've got some contract extensions to discuss, and of course,
just a season preview for the Spurs as they tip
off in Dallas Thursday night. In our main segment today,
we're going to recap the college football weekend from this
past Saturday, where apparently it actually does pay to throw
a fit and throw stuff onto the field, albeit it

(01:43):
didn't pay off in the long run for Texas. But
we'll get into all of that as well as the
rest of the top twenty five games in our main segment,
But as always, we start with what I watched last night,
and I'm sure like most of y'all on Monday nights
in the fall, it's a lot of fun football, and
we got a really interesting game in the first window

(02:05):
of the night. It was another doubleheader, although the second
game was only on ESPN streaming platform. Still curious exactly
what numbers that game did. I haven't seen it yet,
But the more interesting game was definitely the first one
of the night, where if you just looked at the
final score, you wouldn't really understand how back and forth,

(02:27):
or I shouldn't even say back and forth, how one
sided this game started, and then how one sided this
game ended Bucks go up ten to nothing on the
Ravens before the Ravens scored thirty four unanswered points and
end up winning that game forty one to thirty one,
And it looked like the Bucks might have had something

(02:47):
cooking the way they started that game going up ten
to nothing. But even worse than giving up thirty four
unanswered points was the injuries they incurred throughout the rest
of that game. Mike ev ends up leaving with a
hamstring injury. He was already banged up going into the game.
The criminally perpetually underrated Mike Evans he now is being

(03:12):
ruled out till after their bye week in week eleven,
he ends up leaving the game early and then Bucks
fans can't catch a break at the end where in
a ten point game with less than a minute left,
Chris Godwin has one of those injuries where they don't
even show you the replay on TV and if if
you're a real sicko, kind of like the Aiden Hutchinson injury,

(03:35):
it wasn't hard to find footage of how bad it was.
They call it a dislocated ankle, and he broke his ankle.
It was facing completely the wrong way he's out for
at least a year, at least the rest of this year.
And now the Bucks, after a great start to the
season on offense, now down two of their biggest weapons up.

(03:56):
Speaking of weapons, it's amazing what Derek Henry is continuing
to do for the Ravens now that they have gotten there.
It seems like they've gotten on the same page with
how to utilize him. You know, John Harball specifically mentioned,
you know, Derek's not going to be a guy that
touches the ball thirty times a game. Well, he apparently

(04:18):
doesn't have to, because he still is on pace to
break Eric Dickerson's rushing record now in his age thirty season,
his first one in Baltimore. And it does help to
have a weapon like Lamar Jackson, you know, line up
next to him in the backfield. Jackson ends up going
for two hundred and eighty one yards and five touchdowns.

(04:39):
But even more impressive, he is now twenty three to
one against NFC teams. So if the Ravens can ever
get back to a Super Bowl, I would feel pretty
confident in taking the Ravens and Lamar over whoever the
NFC produces, just based on that track record, But I
mentioned another great night from Derreck Henry.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
He rips off.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
An eighty one yard run where the only reason he
was tracked down is because the safety had an angle,
but it took the whole length of the field for
him to catch up to him and prevented him from
having the long touchdown run.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
You'll be happy to know Jerry Jones did.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
He returned to his radio show on the Cowboys flagship
station up there earlier this morning, and he let us
know that Derrick Henry wouldn't have done what he's doing
in Baltimore with Dallas this year. And Okay, he might
not be on record to break Eric Dickerson's rushing record,

(05:39):
but I bet I'm pretty confident in saying he would
have given the Cowboys more than the two headed monster
of Rico, Dowdell and Zeke has given them.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
But sure, Jerry. Sure.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
We'll talk a little more about Jerry's return to the
radio show later before we get into the main segment.
But we did have another Monday night game, albeit between
two way less exciting teams. Cardinals end up winning that
seventeen fifteen over the Chargers. They get a game winning
field goal, right at the end to win it and

(06:09):
more importantly, pull even with the forty nine ers per
second in that NFC West Division. As Dallas prepares to
travel to San Francisco or rather Santa Clara to play
those forty nine ers this week, that feels like a
natural lead in to jump into Jerry's comments on his
return to his radio show this morning. We will talk

(06:32):
a lot more Cowboys come Thursday, if not tomorrow as well,
if we get any more headlines injury related. Still waiting
to hear for sure whether Micah is going to return,
I'd say it's still probably even less than fifty to
fifty if you're reading the tea leaves right now, and

(06:52):
potentially Deron Bland coming back from injury as well, now
that he's had the additional week from the bye to recover.
Micah's saying he's unsure if he's going to play, And
if he's saying he's unsure, I would say that means
the coaching staff and the training staff is probably even

(07:12):
more unsure of his status at this point as we
sit here Tuesday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
But we'll cover that as soon as we hear more.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Would it surprise you to know that Jerry did not
apologize to any of the radio hosts this morning in
his return to their show after you know, basically telling
them that he pays them so he doesn't have to
answer any of their tough questions, which the questions weren't
even that tough. They were literally questions that every Cowboy

(07:45):
fan is asking themselves, you know, the question of like,
why didn't we do anything in the off season to
make our team better? Why did we wait to hand
out contract extensions when every other team handles their business
in the off season. You know, very straightforward, simple questions
that Jerry just didn't want to answer. So he returns

(08:06):
to the radio show on the flagship up there one
oh five to three the fan earlier this morning. And
I'm not gonna spend a lot of time on this
because again, we could bitch about Jerry every single episode,
but I will say he threw Mike McCarthy under the bus.
Specifically said, you know, we're running bad schemes, bad concepts,

(08:28):
poor play design, but I liked the players, I like
who we have. We're just running bad concepts. So parse
that to basically say, he said, our head coach is
doing a bad job, but our general manager is doing great. Now,
why would that be the case? Could it be because

(08:49):
he's the general manager and he can't admit any fault whatsoever.
So it's got and he's right about a lot of that.
With McCarthy, he's right about the bad schemes, bad concepts,
he's right he mentioned poor execution. All of those things
can be true while also admitting that the talent is

(09:12):
not where it should be. After the top tier, you know,
the top heavy part of the roster. Great NFL players.
Every team would kill to have a guy like Micah
cd hell, even Tank Dak. I mean, as much as
you want to criticize Dak, there's a lot of NFL
teams that would rather have him than Gardner Minshew. But

(09:32):
outside of that top tier of the roster, the last
two drafts, their premiere picks, their first and second round picks,
are absolutely some of them have already been benched.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
You know.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
It's the worst defensive tackle in the league this season.
He was a first round pick two years ago, a
tight end that would barely get on the field for
most teams. He was a second round pick two years ago,
a first round tackle from and this last summer that
you've already benched.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
But the general manager is doing a great job.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
And I know again every episode could have a Jerry rant,
and I restrained myself as much as possible, But it's
just the lack of accountability with that franchise has gotten
to the point, thankfully, that enough of the fan base
is tuning Jerry out now. It doesn't matter in the
bottom line, It doesn't change anything, but it does at

(10:29):
least seem like his stranglehold of the narrative has completely
been taken away, and he doesn't know how to handle
that outside of continuing to lie to his fans that
line his pockets. Like when he said we spent more
cash than anybody, Well, actually you were dead last until
you gave DAK and CD contract extensions and that only

(10:51):
bumped you up to thirteenth. But sure, old man, keep
lying to us. We'll keep buying tickets, We'll keep watching
because they're only a aim out of the division myself
included did. I cannot quit that organization. It's left me
in the precarious situation where I celebrate when they lose

(11:12):
and I celebrate when they win. It is not a
fun existence. But I know a lot of y'all share
that existence when it comes to our collective cowboy fandom
these days. But that's enough Cowboys for now. We'll talk
more on Thursday as we preview the upcoming NFL week,
and of course, if we get any more news regarding

(11:33):
injuries or anything, we'll talk about it tomorrow before we
jump into some college football talk. I wanted to mention
Champions League returned earlier today. Now that I'm not distracted
by mid day playoff baseball, I can be distracted by
midday Champions League soccer again, and today was full of

(11:54):
some absolutely distracting matchups, starting with Captain America himself, Christian Polisic.
He scored a beautiful Olympico goal earlier earlier this afternoon
from a corner kick, and on top of that, he's
now doing his post match interviews in Italian. I would
say he is absolutely becoming a Milan legend.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
They get the win three to.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
One over Club Bruges, the Belgium team, probably the most
surprising final score of the day. Actually not probably the
most surprising final score of the day. The Dutch team
PSV ends up getting a tie out of their matchup
with PSG. Psv V PSG very confusing. That game ends

(12:42):
one to one. Vinny Junior ended up getting a hat
trick in Real's five to two drubbing of Dortmund. Didn't
expect that one to be as one sided as it was,
but Real Madrid is inevitable when it comes to Champions League.
It feels a couple of the other scores. Monaco Blue
out Red Star five to one. Arsenal gets the close win.

(13:05):
They end up winning by the slim margin of one
nil against Shaktar don esk Aston Villa unveiled an amazing
three lions tifo for their match. They end up winning
two nothing over Bologna. Not every Italian team had a
good day. Juventus loses one nothing to Stuttgart, the German outfit,

(13:26):
and I'm sure by now you're laughing your ass off
listening to my country ass pronounce half of these teams.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
So I'm still not.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Exactly sure what to take away from these games at
this point, because it's not the normal group stages as
it has been my entire life.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Still not exactly sure.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
How much Dortmund hurts from losing that game to Real,
because it's not like they have to fight back and
win their group. But someone way smarter than me, please
reach out explain to me the actual ramifications for losing
these games at this point in the competition, because I'm
about to the point where I'll really lock in when

(14:13):
it's knockout round. But it's still live afternoon sports and
highly entertaining at that It definitely beats watching whatever lifestyle
show or soap opera CBS would be running here locally,
which again, it still blows my mind that Champions League
soccer early stages like this is taking over big CBS

(14:36):
channels all across our country. Where it used to be
you'd get one Champions League game replayed the next day
on Fox Sports Southwest back when I was in college.
And now, to think about here, it's easier to watch
international European soccer here than it is in most of
those European countries. We have way more access now compared

(15:00):
you know, Premier League coverage here versus Premier League coverage
in England. It's insane how far the soccer broadcasting spectrum
has come so fast, so quickly, but it is.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Soccer is the.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Most played youth sport going all the way back to
the seventies, but still obviously Miles and miles behind the
rest of the rest of Europe when it comes to
producing top top talent, although more Americans are playing in
Champions League now than ever before, so we're at least
making ground, I should say. But enough of that, Let's

(15:37):
talk some real football. Let's talk some college football where
apparently college game Day is ready to work a little blue.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
What's your major here, kinesiology? I'm PREMI okay, Tony, I
didn't realize that we had weep puvetcent lesbians kickings. I
don't know if that's on my tuck. Max. You got
these boots on. You're gonna go straight ahead, right, that's
what you said, straight on the strategies. We got this
wide toe box. I'm just gonna hit it straight ahead

(16:09):
and I hope for the best.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
All right, well, brother, first time, yes, time, straight on
we've never had again.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
First time for striving it.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Let's matty Tony come on over here.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Okay, Tony, I'll take the microphone.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Max.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Just first thoughts are not I mean, it's an incredible look.
He's like broke back Bob the Builder.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
That was the work of the great Tony Hinchcliff On
College Game Day this past weekend, of course Tony, the
namesake of the show Killed Tony if you're unfamiliar, a
great stand up comedian YouTube show, also really popular, really
famous from doing the Brady roast as well as a
bunch of other roast It's really interesting to see Disney

(16:58):
lean in heavy with the stand up comedians this year
on Game Day.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
We had Shane Gillis.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Early in the year at Kyle Field when his Fighting
Irish were playing the Aggies, and now we get Tony
with Game Day in Austin. All of the comedians that
have moved to Austin recently, it wasn't really surprising that.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
They went with one of them. But Tony is.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
He works really blue and to the point where Pat
McAfee is trying to keep the show on the rails
while Tony's dropping one liners left and right. But he
wasn't the only guy dropping one liners because we got
some absolute audio gold when it came time for Scottie
Scheffler to take a seat at the desk and give

(17:47):
us his celebrity picks. This is what his pick for
the Miami v. Louisville game sounded like, give me Miami.
There's no way I'm picking Louisvoe this particular time where
I'm sitting right now. Yeah, not to bring anything personal
into this with Louisville a great city, love the people, But.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Did you watch the film or no film? Nothing?

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Miami, great way to handle that from Scotty. There's a
couple of things to pick up on there. One, Scotty
has some nice comedic timing there, and if you've already
forgot the joke there is it was the Louisville Police
Department that arrested Scotty before the tournament earlier this year.
It's a nice little comeback there. And secondly, poorly Corso. Man,

(18:40):
those laughs at the end of that cut. Uh, just wonder,
just wonder when it's time to stop traveling. Maybe we
do these, Maybe we just let Herbie tell us what
Corso's picks are moving forward, But never forget one of
the funniest moments in game day history is when Corso
was having trouble with the notes and just says, Fitt

(19:02):
chunks on him and then makes his pick. I mean,
Courso is a lot of our childhoods, and I guess
as I approached forty myself, it's starting to sync in
that the old man is really really old now.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
But enough of the game day desk.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Let's talk about the actual football, where I think it's
pretty safe to say that parody has officially arrived in
college football, ironically the year that Nick Saban has finally
left college football. It's now a wide open race to
win a championship. And also, what a great year to

(19:41):
introduce a twelve team playoff, because I think right now
there I would confidently say I think there's four teams
that could win a national championship this year. I think
there's six or seven teams that could play in a
national championship this year. And then the rest of the
top twelve is filled out with unexpectedly undefeated teams so

(20:05):
far this year.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
But we'll start at the top.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Where obviously the game of the week was the game
in Austin, Georgia's return to Austin for the first time
since nineteen fifty eight. They end up getting the thirty
to fifteen win over Texas, and that score is extremely misleading.
Texas put a good fight together in the second half,
but that first half was absolute, pure and utter.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Domination from Georgia.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
If it wasn't for Carson Beck having a couple turnovers
in the first quarter, that game could have been way
worse at halftime, and if it wasn't for the Texas
defense doing everything they could to force Georgia into kicking
field goals or punting instead of capitalizing off of the
turnovers they were creating. Georgia never trailed at any point

(20:57):
of the game and honestly never really looked. Even as
Texas was scoring in the second half, it still felt
like Georgia was comfortably in control of that game. And
of course we'll talk about the biggest talking point to
come out of the game, the Texas student section throwing
stuff on the field, but first should mention Travis at
the end ends up with three rushing touchdowns, the last

(21:21):
of which was with about twelve minutes left in the
game that really put it away, put them back up
by two scores. As Texas was charging, but it was
all about that Georgia defensive front. They made quinn Ewers
life such a living hell, to the point that Sark
let us see a little bit of arch manning go

(21:41):
up against that Georgia defensive front. As Sark said after
the game, he did it just to calm Quinn down
before he ends up going back to Quinn for the
entire second half, and there's a lot of talk regarding,
you know, has Sark now psychologically lost Quinn for.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
The rest of the year.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Hell, there was a fake story floating online yesterday that
Quinn had already left the team and was preparing for
the NFL Draft and was no longer going to play
for anybody this year.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Well all of that was.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
Bogus fake news, as Quinn put out on Insta. But
I think it does beg the question of, you know,
did Sark make the right decision in turning to arch
And I think if it was any other backup quarterback
not named Arch Manning, I think it's a great move
because even if it had been Malik Murphy like it

(22:37):
was last year, the idea of just letting Quinn calm
down and you know, talk, have some coaching on the
sideline to look at some you know, tape available to
him there to try to make adjustments before even halftime.
I understand the logic of that decision, but I think
the fact that it is a Manning sitting behind him

(22:58):
as the backup, and the thirst that the crowd has
to see Arch Manning play.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
I mean hell.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
On Arch's first play he comes running into the game.
The record attendance one hundred and five almost one hundred
and six thousand fans go crazy, to the point where
Arch is having to tell them, Hey, shut up, I've
got to make some calls at the line. I've got
to bark out the play call. You know we're on offense.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Be quiet.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
So definitely opened a bit of a can of worms.
But I also think it's something Nick Saban would have done.
We saw Nick Saban do the same thing in National
championship games where he pulls Jalen Hurts to bring Tua in.
I don't get the vibe that pulling Quinn Saturday against
Georgia is going to have any long term effect on

(23:45):
this Texas team, because at the end of the day,
quinn led offense only had thirty eight yards at halftime.
Sarks trying to win a SEC Conference game against a
great defensive front. Arch is a more mobile quarterback. It
just kind of felt like a nice situational opportunity to

(24:06):
get Arch in see if he could do something. If
he did do something righting for the rest of the game.
If not, you've got Quinn getting some coaching calming down
and you're going to make adjustments at halftime. Because to
be honest, it wasn't to me as much about Quinn
or Arch or really any of the players. It was

(24:27):
a masterclass from Kirby Smart. It was a Kirby Smart
defensive scheme that knew exactly what Sark wanted to do
and knew exactly what Sark was going to do before
he did it. And that goes back to the familiarity
that Kirby had when Sark was calling plays for Alabama
for Jalen Hurts and to you know, Kirby has the

(24:52):
game plan to beat offenses like that, and they ran
it to absolute perfection. In fact, the win, now that
was Kirby's one hundredth career win in one hundred and
seventeen games. That's nine seasons worth of coaching now for
Kirby Smart, and I think going back to twenty twenty one,

(25:14):
the only losses he has is to Alabama and obviously
now continuing that streak, but defensive masterclass from Kirby. You know,
that defense ends up getting seven sacks, causing four turnovers,
and more importantly, the Dogs offense is able to capitalize
score seventeen points off of those Texas turnovers. I mentioned

(25:38):
Carson Beck and his turnovers. He ends up throwing three interceptions,
two of them in the first quarter, but Texas can't capitalize.
I can't get anything going because of that Georgia defense.
But the third interception that Beck threw is the one
that got the most people talking because, of course, that
was the one that was initially called off due to

(26:00):
a pass interference call, which led the UT student section
to start throwing stuff onto the field, which then gave
the officials time to talk about said call. It'd also
helped that they showed the call on the Giant Godzilla tron.
They have their DKR, so it was very clear it
was a bad call, no question, it shouldn't have been

(26:24):
called in the first place. Fans throw stuff on the field.
Referees are human. They get together and say, hey, we
made a really bad call.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
We have the opportunity to fix this.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Now, let's go ahead and reward this bad behavior and
change the call. Also, Texas returned the interception all the
way down inside Georgia's ten yard line, so it set
them up for first and goal, where two plays later
they end up scoring a touchdown and start to get
back into the game. Actually at that point they were

(26:56):
back into the game. That made it twenty three to
fifteen late in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
And all of.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
These events led us to thousands, countless numbers of social
media jokes about you know, tea sippers throwing a fit till.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
They get their way.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
I saw a lot of aggies playing the moral high ground.
You know this is we told you all this would
happen as soon as you invite them to the SEC.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
We could have told you this is what they would do.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
And all of that is true and funny, but it
also worked, so I don't think that call gets changed
and less stuff gets thrown onto the field which causes
the delay. So it's the rare example of where bad
behavior actually did reward the home team. I guess the

(27:48):
only penalty they got the SEC ends up handing down
a quarter of a million dollar fine. They also threatened
to potentially limit alcohol cells in future games if it
happens again. So really, no harm, no foul, except for
the fact that the athletic department has left with a
two hundred and fifty thousand dollars tab to pay. But

(28:10):
I think the biggest takeaway from that game besides the
guy with Conway twitty hair who looked like he's wearing
a Guardian cap. Sure, I mean that's a nine inch
fitted cap skull size. Just my favorite social media joke
coming out of the game was I feel sorry for
the pledge class that's about to have to deal with

(28:31):
him tomorrow. But besides that guy stealing the show, I
think the main takeaway is the SEC is still Georgia's
despite the loss to Alabama. It is still Georgia's to lose,
and maybe that gap between Georgia and Texas is bigger
than I expected or then I thought going into that game.

(28:53):
Speaking of the SEC and Bama, they lose another game.
It's the first time they have two losses before the
end of October since two thousand and seven, which also
coincides that was Saban's first year at Alabama. That was
the year they also one of those losses was to
Louisiana Monroe at that point, so a very different two

(29:17):
losses than where Sabin had inherited the program in seven
versus what Kellen de Borr is working with now, but
still technically by ranking it was an upset on Saturday.
Is number eleven at the time. Tennessee beats number seven
Alabama twenty four to seventeen. Tennessee stays in the playoff hunt.

(29:39):
I don't think Bama's completely out of it, but they've
got to rebound, rebound fast now. And really, my biggest
takeaway from that game, besides the freshman Nico for Tennessee
having a great bounce back game after a kind of
a bonehead finished last week, Tennessee fans still don't know
how to smoke sigar as they were starting to spark

(30:02):
up the cigars as the game was over Tennessee tradition.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Two takeaways.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
One, not many of those people they had on camera
know how to properly smoke a cigar. And two, I
think at one point there was a footage of a
fifteen year old high school kid sparking up a cigar
which went in rome. I mean, I would have been
that fifteen year old kid doing the exact same thing,
probably with my dad right there helping me light it. Sorry, Dad,

(30:30):
but you know it's true. It's tradition. You would have
gone right along with it. But they get the win now.
Consecutive times Alabama has traveled to Kneeland Stadium there at Tennessee.
Tennessee now has a back to back wins the last
two meetings in Tennessee. I remember two years ago when

(30:52):
Tennessee beat saban and Bama and the footage of Josh
Hipel after that game when they stormed the field. That
was a win worthy of storming the field. That was
a win worthy of screaming dixieland delight after the game
as one hundred thousand plus celebrate. Not sure the win

(31:12):
on Saturday was worth storming the field, but again, it's
really hard to stop the emotions when you're right there
in the middle of it. I'm sure, but that win
was not Vanderbilt tearing down the goal post and throwing
them into the Cumberland River. I felt like Tennessee, especially
when they have aspirations of being a playoff team, I

(31:34):
don't think you need to be tearing down the goalpost.
But I also don't think that I need to be
in the business of telling college students how to celebrate
big victories like that at home, because it's also the
same college students that make the college football environment the
absolute best sporting environment we have in America. So Tennessee

(31:55):
gets the win. Elsewhere at the top of the rankings,
we had a bunch of teams still staying undefeated. Oregon
beat Perdue thirty five nothing. That was actually a Friday
night game. No challenge there from their Big Ten Conference
opponent per Due. Oregon and Perdue are in the same conference.
I'm sorry, it's still tripping me up. It's gonna take years.

(32:18):
Miami avoids catastrophe. They hold off Louisville Scotti. Scheffler's pick
turned out to be correct. Miami can put points on
anybody at any time. Just have a lot of questions
about their defense. They win that game fifty two to
forty five. Iowa State had a much closer fight with

(32:38):
UCF than I think they intended. That was an home
game for Iowa State and they really sneak away with
a thirty eight to thirty five come from behind win
to stay undefeated themselves stay in the top ten. BYU
stayed undefeated. That was another Friday night game, another come
from behind win. They saved their ass late thirty eight

(33:00):
to thirty five against Oklahoma State. That Oklahoma State season
is just absolutely stuck in quicksand after appearing in the
Big Twelve championship game last year, losing to Texas. Obviously
they had higher hopes than where they find themselves right now.
And then from a team in Oklahoma State that had

(33:22):
all the expectations to play for a conference championship this year,
how about Indiana, a team that they might have had
some personal expectations, but as far as you know, national
media expectations, I would say Indiana was expected mid table
in the Big Ten at best. Well, they go out

(33:42):
and beat Nebraska fifty six to seven to remain undefeated. Now,
there was some bad news coming out of that game.
Their quarterback Rourke is going to miss some time with
a broken thumb, which is never a good thing for
a quarterback. So it feels like they might have a
returned to the median in store through.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
The rest of this season.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Again, speaking of low national expectations, Army and Navy both
won again this past weekend as well. You know, it
was cute when everyone was throwing around the fun fact
of it's the first time Army and Navy have started
four and oh since nineteen forty five.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
How about seven and oh? And not just that, but
they're blowing the doors off of teams.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
I mean they're putting fifty on teams on conference opponents
week after week. Army wins forty five to twenty eight
over East Carolina, a same East Carolina team that beat
UTSA last week or two weeks ago and then fired
their coach midweek. This week, Army beats them forty five

(34:51):
twenty eight. Navy blows the doors off Charlotte, another conference opponent,
fifty one to seventeen. So that Army Navy game is
going to be really exciting, and it's actually it could
be two Army Navy games because if they both are
the top teams in the American Athletic Conference, they'll play

(35:12):
for the conference title, which would then basically be a
de facto play in game for a playoff spot.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
If they do both.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Continue on this trajectory, and then they would turn around
and play the actual Army Navy game, that wouldn't apply
to postseason rankings or playoff eligibility or anything like that.
It's a fun little carve a round to maintain the
date for that Army Navy game without it impacting their

(35:43):
ability to be selected for the playoff potential. So that's
the rest of The Undefeated's add in Penn State and
pitt who were both on a bye this week, And
that's all the remaining ones. Now, I still sit here
and think that Georgia as a one loss team, Texas
as a one loss team, they're probably both just as good.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
I think Georgia is better than Oregon.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I think Oregon and Texas would be a really really
interesting matchup. I think Texas and Ohio State would be
a really interesting matchup. And that's when I kind of
say that top four of where I kind of see
the hierarchy cut off. I say, you know, there's your
top four. You could convince me that Penn State has

(36:32):
some level of an argument. You could convince me that
Miami has some level of an argument to be included
in that group. Penn State's defense is awesome. I have
questions about their offense. Flip that for Miami. Miami's offense
is awesome. Cam Ward is amazing in that in his

(36:52):
new home in Miami, but the defense leaves me with
a lot of questions when it comes to projecting playoffs
success against those top four teams that I mentioned. We'll
burn through a few of the other top twenty five
games from this past weekend. LSU blew the doors off Arkansas.

(37:12):
Thought Arkansas would be better this year. They've been close
in a couple of games, had some tough losses, obviously,
had the big win last week in the upset over Tennessee.
They come back this week get the doors blown off
of them by an ever improving LSU team. Clemson had
an early challenge against Virginia, then they pull away forty

(37:34):
eight thirty one. Notre Dame continues to be ranked way
higher than they should. They beat Georgia Tech thirty one thirteen.
The Ags played with their food a little bit before
eventually closing the door on Mississippi State. I saw Dak
and Dan Mullen and the rest of that team that

(37:55):
climbed all the way to number two in the rankings.
They were in stark for the Mississippi State homecoming. It
was homecoming week at a lot of places across the country.
But I say the Ags end up winning that game.
Thirty four twenty four. My fighting SMU Ponies get the
win over Stanford in an ACC Conference game. Now again unstable, insane.

(38:19):
It's going to take a while to get used to
the idea that SMU is playing Stanford in an Atlantic
Coast Conference game.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
But I digress.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
The worst news for SMU coming out of that game
Russell Maryland's son RJ. Maryland, one of the top tight
end draft prospects. He is injured and is going to
end up missing the rest of the year with a
knee injury. I never want to see that. And then lastly,
the only reason I'm mentioning Illinois Michigan is because Illinois

(38:51):
wore some of the most ridiculous uniforms I've ever seen.
They tried to reenact old nineteen twenty style jersey with
the leatherhead helmet, so it was just helmets painted to
look like leatherhead old nineteen twenty style. Very unstable, but
it did get them the win. They beat Michigan twenty

(39:14):
one to seven, making that Texas win in the Big
House earlier this year looking less and less impressive now
the deeper we get into the season. And then lastly,
I mentioned it was homecoming at a lot of schools
this past Saturday, and let me give you a taste
of the two sides of the coin here as someone

(39:36):
who went back for their twenty year high school reunion
earlier this year on homecoming, just to watch my high
school lose their first home game in over five seasons.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Homecoming can be a.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Massive distraction, just asked Texas Tech, because they end up
allowing fifty nine points to a really, really bad bay
Let team, a Baylor team that Dave Randa probably knows
his time in Waco is nearing an end. The win
over Tech might spare him a little bit of the

(40:12):
pressure of the hot seat starting to boil.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
But Baylor.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
Still, this came out of nowhere, and TeX's defense is
not good. It hasn't been good all year, but I
didn't realize it would be bad enough to give up
almost sixty points to the Bears on homecoming. But that's
exactly what happened. Tech loses their first Big twelve game
of the season, and then on the other side of

(40:36):
that coin Utsa is able to write the ship at
least for one week. They get the homecoming win over
Tom Herman, who I kind of forgot was still at
Florida Atlantic. They get the win thirty eight twenty four
in the Alamodome last weekend. So another week a college
football is in the books, Another college Football Tuesday recap

(40:59):
is behind. We'll, of course talk more college football come
Friday as we preview this upcoming week, but it is
officially almost time to watch some NBA basketball. I am
wrapping this segment here quarter till seven on Tuesday night,
getting ready to go pop into the other room watch
that NBA doubleheader NIS at Celtics and then t Wolves

(41:23):
at Lakers. Also got a Stars game tonight. I haven't
been looking at the score. Got to check in with
my Stars. They're in Buffalo tonight as well. And if
you're a true sicco, there's college football for you to watch.
If you so choose Sam Houston State looking to bounce
back from their loss last week to Western Kentucky. They
play in Pittbull Stadium tonight taking on the FIU Panthers.

(41:49):
Or if you truly truly are a sicco, you could
watch UTEP and law Tech in the late night window.
But that'll do it for today's addition. Tomorrow, we will
talk plenty of NBA. We'll talk about the double header
from tonight, we'll talk about some of the recent contract
extensions we saw, and of course we'll talk a lot

(42:10):
of Spurs as they get ready to tip off Thursday
up in Dallas. As always, I appreciate y'all riding along,
Be safe, Listen to some Conway twitty.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
We'll talk to y'all tomorrow. Kids. What do we say
about drugs, Yeah,
