Cutdown Tuesday (Aug 26, 2025) locks in the Cleveland Browns’ initial 53. Based on current reporting, rule mechanics, and the preseason finale, the most credible outcome is four quarterbacks on the 53—Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders—while Deshaun Watson remains on PUP and Tyler Huntley is waived with practice-squad hopes. This video explains the emergency-QB rule that drives the math, the three-elevations limit on practice-squad players, what GM Andrew Berry has said about using developmental roster spots, and how Sanders’ rough finale fits into a longer runway rather than a verdict. Sources include ESPN’s roster projections and Berry comments, NFL.com’s finale recap, the Browns’ PUP transaction for Watson, and wire reports on the emergency-QB rule reverting to 2023 terms after the NFLPA’s 2024 veto.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back once again to another episode of The Sports Executive.
I'm your host, Jimmy Skirts, and let's jump right into it,
ladies and gentlemen. Chadoor Sanders had his second opportunity to
prove himself and let me say it didn't go well.
It went terrible. He was sacked by five times, misthrows,

(00:28):
miss reads. You know, he holds the football too long.
Just a terrible outing. And again, I think with their
bleak from last week was the real opportunity. I just
don't think he's in a good place right now, and
it's going to play into the narrative that the head coach,

(00:48):
who doesn't want him anyway, is gonna se a c
That's why we put him in fourth position. He's not ready.
I got to tell you that Joe Flocco went out
there today. No he's not a Lamar Jackson, No no, no,
he's not a jail in Hurts. But he's a veteran.
He was poised. He knows what to do. But we're

(01:12):
gonna see when the live action starts soon. But here's
the issue. Four quarterbacks, really six one deadline? What the
Browns will do on countdown Tuesday and what it means
for Shador Sanders, he really you know, some people say

(01:34):
he was set up. I don't like to use excuses.
He just didn't He just wasn't good today. And again
Joe Flacckel came out, he looked great. Gabriel came out
and he looked great. So they got suh Door in
option number four. And I really think he may not

(01:59):
be number because Huntley led him to two victories in
the end. I really think he's gonna get cut. And
I keep telling people it's not about the money. It's
not about what the Dog Pound wants, or the fans
or what's best for the team. This was a setup
solely to hurt Dion Sanders sins of the father. Can't

(02:25):
get the father, so we'll get the sons. I think
both of them are gonna be cut. I think Shador
is gonna be cut from the Browns. And I think
that his brother down in Tampa Bay who got ejected,
Shiloh h you know, I really think that's gonna happen.

(02:49):
You might think in the worst case scenario, Shaudor might
go to the practice squad, but even if they keep
him on the practice squad, that's gonna be forever. He's
never gonna get out of there. I think the best
thing that happened to him is that he gets cut.
Maybe another team will pick him up that needs a
backup quarterback, even a third string. Even better that doesn't happen.

(03:12):
I think he should just go to Canada and play
for a year. He's still staying in shape, still getting reps,
and he can prove himself. But there's four quarterbacks, one deadline.
What the Browns will do? What are they going to do?
What are they going to do? Countdown Tuesday? What it

(03:33):
means for Shador. Countdown Tuesday is August twenty six, twenty
five will force Cleveland to define its quarterback room for
real games. Every credible beat reporter in roster projection converges
on the same outcome. Cleveland will open with four quarterbacks,
which is unheard of the fact that he's in Cleveland,

(03:53):
the most dysfunctional organization in the NFL. You know it's
no accident that was done intentionally. Four quarterbacks Joe Flacco,
Kenny Pickett as the backup who hasn't played all preseason,
Dylan Gabriel. I'm telling you he's looking better than Shador

(04:14):
right now. I hate to tell you. Yeah, he's short.
He threw a few inner picks interceptions, but he looked
good the other day. And if we're going over overall
performance over the last couple outings, Dylan Gabriel's there. I
don't think you know, he's not a slouch. I don't
think Chador may be the future for them, I'm telling you.

(04:39):
And while Deshaun Watson remains on the pup list, Tyler Huntley,
who led him to the last two victories, is waived
with hopes of returning on the practice squad. This configuration
reflects both public hens from GMA Andrew Berry about treating

(05:02):
the back of the roster as developmental space and the
practical constraints of the current emergency QB and practice SQUAL
rules that shape modern roster math. I'd be wanting to
get out of here. I'm sorry, I'd be wanting to
get out of there. Let me tell you something, Tyler

(05:23):
Huntley paid, Okay, okay, what Tuesday actually is and why
it forces a QB answer? Okay. The NFL requires all
clubs to submit initial fifty three man rosters by three

(05:44):
pm Central Time four pm Eastern Time on Tuesday, August
twenty sixth. That means that Tuesday four pm, the initial
fifty three man roster must be presented. Wednesday morning waiver
claims players with fewer than four accured seasons must clear

(06:05):
waivers Wednesday afternoon, practice squad building begins, and again the
emergency QB rule forces hard choices. Emergency QB must be
on the fifty three man roster to not count against
game day active slots. Practice squad elevations capped at three

(06:27):
per player during the regular season. This context is why
keep four has moved from theoretical to likely for Cleveland.
The emergency QB rule pushes teams to protect a third
QB on the fifty three and the three elevation cat
limits gaming it with a practice squad quarterback. And that's

(06:52):
where Shador Sanders was going to be. I mean, they
might bring it huntly over over Shador. Right now, I'm
telling you, the best thing cal happen to him is
to get out of there. I gotta tell you to
get out of there. I know people aren't gonna like that,
but it's probably the best thing for him to get
out of it. And again, the room today, who's actually
in play, Joe Flacco publicly a firm Week one starter.

(07:17):
Kenny Pickett is the number two. I mean, shit, you
might as well move Gabriel up. Kenny Pickett didn't play
all preseason, but he's a veteran Dylan Gabriel round three
rookie with developmental upside. Then we got Shador Sanders round
five rookie. The front office is incentivized to develop and protect. However,

(07:42):
based on the performance today, I gotta tell you, I
would not be surprised if Tyler Huntley jumps over Shador
Sanders and Shadora goes into the practice squad just to
mentally screw with him and screw his father. And don't
forget Deshaun Watson, who's making videos of him and recovery

(08:07):
is there stuck. He's stuck, even though he's on the
pup list, He's still there. He's still lingering. I mean,
he could rise from the ashes. Who knows. So what
the final told evaluators, not the fans. You know what

(08:29):
do we have here? Joe Flacco handled a clean tune
up drive that confirmed veteran readiness. Yes, he was flawless
in his drive. Dylan Gabriel, author to composed Scoring March
that checkboxes on operation and deciphi decisiveness. And again, I

(08:50):
tell you know, people say that Sanders is better than Gabriel,
he's taller than him. But I gotta tell you, yay,
do a couple of picks. I'm telling you Sanders playing
terrible today did not do them any justice. Chardoor Sanders
today and do it a rough series three for six

(09:12):
for fourteen yards with multiple sacks. Five tape shows a setback,
not a not a sentence, reinforces QB as a proper
immediate landing spot. Tyler Huntley closed the go ahead series.
And I'm telling you, don't be surprised if Tyler Huntley

(09:36):
moves above Shador Sanders. I'm telling you, I'm telling you.
I'm telling you don't be surprised. The front office is
signaling carrying four is intentional, not accidental. Yes, because the
Cleveland Browns are a dysfunctional organization. They draft a rookie

(09:58):
in the higher rounds and then get another quarterback just
for the hell of it. And multiple recent touch points
with the media, GM Andrew Berry has telegraphed comfort with
four qbs to start the season, framing the last several
roster spots as developmental bandwidth in today's elevation era. National

(10:19):
outlets have echoed the expectation this week, with ESPN and
others asking the specific question will they keep all four
and answering and the affirmative again. Cleveland Browns the most
dysfunctional franchise in the NFL because they don't know what
they're doing. And again, they still have the Sean Watson

(10:42):
who could rise from the ashes, and that would be something.
The rule math behind why four okay emergency QB rule
emergency quarterback must be on a fifty three man roster,
not a game day elevation. This push the team toward
carrying three qbs on the fifty three in any case.

(11:05):
Waiver wire risk. If Sander is waved, that's a possibility.
Thirty one other teams could claim him on Wednesday. Draft
procepts option still shape league views. High risk of losing him.
I'm telling you it's the best thing. If he gets waved.

(11:28):
I'm sorry, it's the best thing. If he gets waved,
right now, get waved. Let him get picked up by
somebody else. If not, go to the freaking Canadian League.
Practice squad limitations. Each practice squad player can only be
elevated three times in a regular season, will just elevate

(11:48):
him as our emergency is in a season long solution
developmental approach. Barry described using final roster slots as developments.
Protecting both rookies on the fifty three aligns with this philosophy. Basically,
if Sanders makes it on the roster, he's going to

(12:11):
the practice squad, He's going into the abyss. He's going
into the abyss. You'll never hear from him. I don't
care who gets injured. They're playing with him. They are
playing with him to get back after his father. They're
gonna screw with this guy mentally until they break him

(12:33):
like a buck. That's what's going on, like it or not.
And again, here is the likely Tuesday outcome. Most defensible projection.
Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel, Shador Sanders. You're gonna

(12:54):
put Deshaun Watson on the puplist and Tyler Huntley wave
to the practice squad. But I gotta tell you, I
don't think it's gonna be Tyler or Huntley on the
practice squad. I think it's gonna be Shador Sandlers, Sanders,
Tyler Huntley drove them in two games to victory. Really

(13:16):
can say three and again. Independent reports from national desks
to team centric analysts have described precisely this scenario over
the past day, including New York based coverage that reported
the club expects to retain all four, which is dysfunctional.
The combination of the finale's tape, roster rules, and Barry's

(13:38):
prior comments makes this outcome more than a message board
wish casting. But again, I gotta tell you, do not
be surprised if Sanders is relegated to the practice squad,
telling you do not be shocked or waved, which would

(13:59):
be the best thing for him in my opinion, to
get out of dodge while he can, while he can,
while he can, get out of dodge. Now what this

(14:28):
specifically means for Shador Sanders, Okay, he's under protect the
qbfore development track, protected from the wave exposure on a
fifty three man roster, scout team work against the first
team defense, aggressive meeting room installs, package based approach of circumstance,
creates snaps. The difficult preseason finale stringses the case for

(14:51):
stabilizing him as a QB four rather than treating him
like a cramped arm. This approach avoids the reputational and
confidence damage that can come from thrusting a rookie into chaos. Basically,
he screwed himself by his past performance. And again when
they use the word developmental, note he's going to the
practice squad. But again, the purpose is not to develop him.

(15:15):
The purpose is to humiliate him, break him like a buck,
break his psyche, and to get back at his father.
That's what's really going on, and that's why I think
the best thing they could do is to release him.
But if they waive him, excuse me, no one's gonna
pick him up, and I'd go right into the Canadian league.

(15:37):
I know that's not the best choice, but hey, he'll
be in shape, he'll get reps, he may even win something.
But he's still going to get noticed on ESPN still, regardless, regardless,
and again what could shift the picture, but probably won't.

(16:01):
Only two realistic pivots unexpected trade. Most chatter centers on
league wide QB movement. The NFL has listed Picket among
names that could draw calls. He could get you know
if Picket gets traded, Okay, different story. Sudden injury would

(16:23):
force short term insurance moves. Low probability, you know, injury.
Even with the trades in there, emergency QB rule pressure remains.
Cleveland would still need to preserve at least three qbs
on the fifty three game day Flexibility, Sanders protection loggage
logic stays intact short of any of these unlikely scenarios.

(16:48):
The roster mass that stays intact four qbs under fifty
three Huntly, the practice squad, which I think is going
to be Shador, Sanders, and Watson on the pup. Okay,
the seventy two hours timeline after Tuesday, what happens next
Tuesday four pm? You need that fifty three man roster.

(17:11):
Wednesday morning waiver period runs. If Huntley is unclaimed, he
becomes eligible for the practice squad. I think somebody's gonna
pick him up. Wednesday afternoon, Huntley can signed to the
Browns sixteen man practice squad. Rest of the weekly churn begins, elevations,
IR designations, back of roster swaps. Nothing about this mechanics

(17:37):
window undermines the cape for logic. If anything, on reinforces
it by making the emergency QB destination easier to manage
on game days without spending scarce elevations. Again, Cleveland's quarterback
answer for Tuesday is less about who won a camp

(17:59):
battle and more about roster architecture. In twenty twenty five,
Flocco's obviously gonna be QB one pick. It is the
veteran buffer. Gabriel is ready to address rookie who passed
the operational test. Sander now becomes the long term upside
play who needs a quieter runway. The emergency QB rule

(18:22):
and three elevations cap make it inefficient to stash quarterbacks
off the roster. But again, I just got a feeling
that Sanders is gonna be waived or to the practice squad.
I'm telling you, don't be surprised. Don't be surprised, because

(18:47):
it's obvious that they want to go with Gabriel. It's
extremely obvious that they want to go with Gravy Gabriel,
and I don't care who gets injured. He will not
be promoted. He will not be promoted. Yeah, he got
sacked five times because he had shit offensive line out there.

(19:10):
That's trying to make the Tuesday roster. Yeah, he holds
the quarter he calls the football too long. Should have
got rid of it. Plenty of times, overthrow, overthrown a
few receivers. But I gotta tell you, the more I
look at this, I'm trying to be objective, but I
gotta tell you, they just want to screw with Dion Sanders.

(19:36):
They want to sins of the father and they're gonna
break his sons like a buck mentally. And let me
tell you, I don't care who gets injured. He's never
gonna get elevated off the practice squad never. They really

(19:58):
don't want him. They don't want him. It's just that
the black hand, the hid in the hand of the
NFL are vindictive and they can hold that vindictiveness for years.
And this is the opportunity to get back at Dion.
And addition to that, they're hoping that the Colorado Buffs

(20:22):
gets slaughtered this year. And I gotta tell you, I'm
looking at him right now. And they lost those that
receiving corps, they lost Travis Hunter, they lost Shador and
I'm looking at the people there now. They got that transfer.

(20:42):
I can't remember the college he was at, but anyway,
the highlights they got at Liberty where he was at.
The highlights look great, but I don't see that in
the practice I don't see that at all. They got
one of the receivers from last year. He looks great still.
But I gotta tell you the problem with Colorado. They

(21:04):
can't get those big dogs, those massive dogs, those massive linemen,
you know, those massive defensive ends, defensive linements. They don't
get those big house boys. They get them medium sized boys.

(21:28):
And I don't know how to they might get slaughtered.
I don't know if it's going to be another one
and eleven, but AH gotta tell you, they're hoping Dion
fails this year. And that's what it's all about. That's
what it's all about. And again I want to remind
you that we use NFL dot Com, Gain rapesn Roster Projection,

(21:52):
ap CBS game Summary, and the Browns transaction log to
come up with this assessment. Leave me a comment, tell
me what you think, and I'll see in the next episode.
