Sometimes we take actions that will postpone

(00:03):
action
Hello and welcome to another episode of the Stand Up Dude podcast
I am Stewart White one of your hosts along with our main host
Oh, it's a main host. Well the main man. I like the main man. Okay. Okay. All right. Hey, Mr. Tim Bessonio

(00:25):
Bisagno. Yeah, nice to be here man. Your show
That's pretty good. I like this. Yeah, best opening of hard really. I like these where it's just us sometimes because yeah
It feels like we get to just riff on
Say it's been a minute just two of us just
Yeah, we've been for real. We're gonna get some great guests sit right here. Yeah, yeah, we have for sure

(00:49):
We're talking about changing that up too. We might even move them over here or over there. Yeah, that that could work
You can actually everybody see each other. That'll be the secret magic
Going parabolic on YouTube or whatever they move the guest and that was when that's when I was a roof
Well Tim you have prepared a message today on action with purpose. Yeah, specifically

(01:15):
This show is a show for men young and old and we really have a heart to see men
Find their purpose in God find their purpose in Christ and ultimately live out of the God given purpose that each and every one of them has even if they don't
Believe in God, right? Yeah, absolutely. So I want to hand that to you and here all of this because I haven't actually even heard this message

(01:43):
Yeah, so this is gonna be fresh for me. Yeah, it's fresh for me. Yeah, I like it
I started it about a week ago and set it down until two days ago and
picked it back up and felt like this is this is the one you know, I have just a
heart for
Man especially young man because I

(02:05):
Wanted to have purpose. I wanted to live my purpose. I wanted to do my purpose. I was I felt like I was a loaded gun
I just wanted God to like where do I steer this thing man? I I've got this
This this jam just yeah, and I didn't I wanted purpose so bad and

(02:27):
And I've and I finally found that at
27 when I actually happened to get sober and I don't believe that those two things were a
Coincidence yeah, but I I even threw my drunkenness and and sleepless
Slavery to drugs for for many years I genuinely I still loved God

(02:47):
Believe it or not. I really did. I'm telling you I loved Jesus, but I was really stuck and
I've learned a lot of things since then about having
purpose and taking action. I kind of like to think of it as
As a as a diesel engine. I personally love the smell of of a running diesel engine

(03:12):
I love the sound of it
Even even when it idols it just sounds so so ready
So I just wanted to to prepare the hearts of men still seeking
Action and still seeking purpose with their life with with the focused

(03:35):
brilliance that that that comes with the illumination of God in your heart God in your mind God in your soul
Found also coming out just of your eyes and just all these beautiful pieces that happen to you when you meet somebody
That is full of of passion and purpose in the spirit

(03:57):
So I'm gonna read just a little bit more notes
This time then I've I've ever had here on the podcast because I want to stay on track
And I want to make sure that that it's understood clearly of what I'm trying
What I will portray that you hopefully will help you tremendously for those that are seeking

(04:19):
Action with purpose
Like I said, it's a little bit like it like a diesel engine
It's just a beautiful thing in my opinion. I used to hate the word
potential
Stewart I didn't ever think of that as as a as a compliment
I actually really didn't like the word responsibility like oh man

(04:43):
I really didn't like either one of those words, but I've learned recently that
Responsibility can really be just the having the ability to respond to response
ability and
That the responsibility and having the ability to respond is being ready

(05:06):
When God calls upon you when man calls upon you to be ready to step into your calling and to be the manager
you're born to be
With readiness and readiness is is is is a beautiful
Characteristic that will be built into you. I hope from from learning some today

(05:31):
Hearing from God and doing it. I think a lot of us spend time when we want purpose and we want to know what are we supposed to do with our life?
Yeah, we pray and then God's speaks and then we don't do it and I think a very
underestimated part
first

(05:52):
Nugget that I hope sinks in here and I hope there's many
Would be that when God speaks and you you long to hear him speak and he speaks a very underestimated part of
Living your purpose is actually responding and having having the the the readiness to respond and to do it to take

(06:15):
Action Psalm 37 for is an interesting verse. I think to bring up here, but it's my favorite verse
The scripture says delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the
Desires of your heart
That I don't think I could have told you what the desires of my heart were when I read that verse the first time

(06:39):
But when we delight ourself in him when we find our delight in him we find that the the desires that are in there
We realize he gave them to us. Yeah, so the caveat is well
Well, delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Well, how do you delight?
Well, I hope that again that we unwrap that some more here this this afternoon. Yeah, man

(07:06):
It's that's something I've heard so often is sometimes people think it's
Do whatever you want like just the desires of your heart or God will grant you your wishes
And it's really more that as you delight in him your desires are formed and shaped by him like you're gonna find your
truest calling you're gonna find those desires are in line with the things God wants 100%

(07:31):
Yeah, it's a good questions that you could be asking yourself is well are these my desires are God's desires?
The answer is a beautiful yes when we're delighting ourself in him
Yeah, that he gives us permission to follow our heart when we're delighting ourself and delighting is kind of like
I believe it's a hebraic definition that I'm that I'm using here is it's almost like a dance

(07:58):
It's like when when two people are moving together
Which one which who's leading and who's not and and who's who's dancing that they're both leading
They're both dancing and that's a beautiful orchestration of of God working in your life when you delight yourself in him and
Recognizing that the desires that are in there he put them there and guess what he has given you a response

(08:24):
ability to
Respond to those
Desires that he put in there have you ever thought for a second that God actually
Trusts you we hear a lot about trusting God, but he has entrusted he has entrusted in you
The the these passions that he has given you and and he's trusting you to

(08:49):
fulfill those to carry those out because he chose you because he called you forward in these actions
He trusts you with these desires that he has put in your heart. I love that. It's
It's freeing in a sense because when you know that God has given you these things and you know when I'm delighting in him

(09:10):
That the desires in my heart are not suspect
Doesn't mean you should never test them, but you can walk freely you can move in greater
Faith to just say hey, I love the Lord and I'm gonna take this step and now I'm gonna take this step
And you don't have to be a panic all the time like God what is your will?
You know and and just running around like a chicken with your head cut off

(09:31):
Sometimes I think the panic looks like sometimes when we don't want to take the response ability
to follow through
With these these these passions these these desires that he has put in your heart
That you're built for
Basically, we don't do those because we're just plain scared of of what the result might look like if we fail and it keeps us stuck

(09:57):
And and we'll put it off to protect our ego. Yeah, and often we'll protect our ego at all costs and that can be a downfall
We'll defend it
What are you I want to ask something what I think
When you know how you can't bring up purpose without bringing up

(10:19):
Procrastination and procrastinating. Yeah, I want to ask the the listeners and the viewers
What are you doing or not doing today that's keeping you from having the ability to respond?
Okay
Secondly, what are you doing that's keeping you stuck from

(10:41):
Delighting in the Lord
You know there's certain
Actions and if that's sinking in I don't want to just rush through that. I'm gonna say that again
What are you doing that's keeping you stuck?
From delighting in the Lord
There's certain actions and we're gonna unwrap this here in a second that are keeping you from living

(11:06):
Into the desire of your heart that the Lord put there
procrastination
causes fear and
Fear
causes procrastination
But when we have faith
With trust that's the action step it produces action

(11:33):
What action has has God entrusted you men out there with and
Giving you because he trusts you with it
God trust you with it the big questions are you gonna trust him?
With it

(11:54):
That's a toffee
It's easy. Well, of course I will
But trusting them and taking that action
Put one foot in front of the other
Is a whole another that ball of wax. Yeah, sometimes sometimes
Stu I'm gonna go down a list that I think will really connect with with with you guys

(12:16):
Sometimes we take actions that will postpone
Action here's what I mean sometimes we take actions that will postpone
real action actions like
porn
actions like
weed
actions like

(12:37):
overly exercising
overly drinking overly eating overly working
These actions will actually postpone us taking real action
We're all guilty of these forms of procrastination
Every single one of us that is so convicting because

(12:59):
That is the the core of procrastination is that you're avoiding something right and or delaying doing something and usually
It's a good thing that you need to do or are responsible to do
But you just don't want to and sometimes we we can fill ourselves
I like that you listed both good and bad things because some I'm guilty of that. I'll go too

(13:23):
I know I need to do my taxes
But seems like a really good time to clean my garage
No doubt and and I'll fill my time with that and then I'll be like oh shoot and all it does is kick the can
Until you have nowhere left to kick it and then you're left
Panic I have to get this thing done sweating. Yeah, and it betrays us but then the other things listing the

(13:46):
drugs and porn and
drinking and any of those things those are
Things that we use ultimately to check out. Yeah, we don't want to be present for our life because there's pain or
Discomfort of some sort and we just think well
This is a great temporary solution
Yeah, I can forget for a moment, but it actually makes you feel worse. Yeah, it does not leave a satisfying soul satisfying

(14:15):
Result. Yes, and that is just tragic. So what actions?
Actions are you guys taking that is postponing real action in your life because it if and keep you stuck guys for years
procrastination
causes fear and

(14:36):
fear is what will continue
Holding you in procrastination
But faith plus trust is what action looks like you could almost
I'm just this is hitting me. Okay
If I'm not saying this is like a perfect litmus test, but

(14:58):
What is the thing that's scaring you right now? There's a good chance that that's what you are
Responsible for if not even being called by God. Oh, buddy to do right now and
maybe we avoid our calling by even taking on smaller responsibilities like I can't do that right now

(15:20):
I've got I've got a clean the garage, you know, I can't I can't go pray for that person. I'm on my way to work. I'm too busy and
I think that man that's kind of hitting me. I'm gonna be dwelling on that for a good week or two. Okay. Yeah
well
action
Big or small

(15:42):
This is a good unstuck tip. I hope it action late on me action big or small in the same direction
causes a purpose
to
become a reality and by the way
Don't let perfection get in the way of
I'm guilty of

(16:06):
Taking the next step perfect usually never comps. Yeah, instead remember and I like this
I
heard this a couple weeks ago and I wrote it down and I wrote put it on a post-it note
Went old school and put it on the monitor of my computer
slow
is smooth and
Smooth is fast

(16:29):
so my son grew up playing writing a skateboard is pretty good and
I heard him talking about reds reds are ball bearings that are very fast and very smooth and I just couldn't help but but remember
ball bearings in this situation a beautiful analogy of

(16:49):
the steadiness of
purpose of
Putting your hand to the plow and not letting go and
Forgetting the sense of of of time where it has to be done by this. It's got to look like this
That's that fear and that's that perfection that'll keep you stuck, but instead

(17:11):
Slow is smooth and
Smooth is fast and it will get you there
One day at a time and all of a sudden you'll find yourself
riding ahead of of
Not it's not a contest, but you'll find yourself riding ahead of of

(17:36):
People that stay stuck. Yeah
There's there's so much wisdom in that it's such a simple concept, but even like I play guitar
starting slow and working up to that and getting to our smooth and fluid in that and suddenly I'm faster and more effective and
able to play better, you know, and that applies even to like your sand. Yeah, living our lives in faith and

(18:00):
living our our actions out as we're responsible for them. Yeah, I love it, man. Yes, man
So what action or or a real action?
Are you guys
postponing right now by taking other?
actions

(18:22):
What action can you do today?
What action can you literally take today? We're gonna go there
What small steps can you take today to create momentum?
Just like the momentum that's created with fresh ball bearings these these reds these bearings in skateboard
I'm gonna ask you again what small step can you take today to create momentum?

(18:49):
To be the man you're created to be starting today. It's not future. It's not what's created to be it's is is
Created to be that you are created to be
stop for a moment and
I'm gonna ask you what action just just one
Can you decide to take today?

(19:13):
No, I want to do an exercise
Let's literally take it take a deep breath, okay? Let's take a deep breath
And just think of what action and ask God to speak to you
I want to be quiet and just ask him what action can I take today?
Did he speak?

(19:47):
Then listen
For many of you God spoke
Now do it
There's no fluffy talk around that now do it
If you guys ever seen I'm sure you have or maybe made them yourself

(20:08):
The dominoes that that line up and you tip the first one if they're all lined up and they all
I
Learned something again just a couple weeks ago that I'd never really thought of
But you could start with a two inch domino and then
Just a two and a eighth of an inch domino and a two and a quarter inch domino and move on up and

(20:32):
One little domino could end up
Tipping a domino at the end that's literally three feet tall because of the of the momentum that's created
And they all fall down one at a time
But it's the momentum of that first one
What's really beautiful is that the first domino could be quite small and as they continue to fall the dominoes get

(20:58):
Larger as I said and the larger dominoes fall just as easily as the other ones
Because of the momentum
One small step can take that you can take today can create momentum
Here's some is say here's some samples. Okay. See if these fit
for some of you

(21:19):
It may be sending that application for that job that you want that you really want
Might just be going to that actual website and
learning more
For some it might mean just begin just beginning
This is what I did back in the day, but this is pre-email when I did this

(21:42):
I had to pull out a piece of paper and and and write a lawyer to help set up a nonprofit 35 years ago
It was overwhelming. I couldn't believe how hard that this was going to be in my mind and my AA sponsor said Tim
Grab a piece of paper and set a pencil and put it on the desk tomorrow

(22:02):
Say dear Jeff the next day write three or four more sentences
The next day finish it fold it put it in an envelope stamp it and take it to the mailbox
Like genius and I did it and three months later. We had a nonprofit
So for some of you it might just mean beginning that email by putting the subject in the subject line literally not being silly here

(22:32):
And being committed to write at least the first sentence
That day or the next morning and hitting send
For some it might mean cleaning off your cluttered desk
For some it might mean cleaning or vacuuming your car or truck
Clearing the space

(22:54):
cluttered space cluttered mind clearing your mind hearing hearing and seeing better from from from from from
the perspective of
When God speaks and in your you've prepared yourself okay
For some it might mean making your bed every morning
For some it might mean having the cleanup conversation

(23:16):
With someone that you've wronged
For some it might mean this is what I've done by the way is putting on your running shoes
Put him on that afternoon knowing and honoring your commitment that you'll be going jogging that afternoon
That really works for me instead of getting in your head and and finding out reasons why you you can't jog because now

(23:40):
It's already seven o'clock or six you got to eat you got to do this you got to that the friend called you putting on you put your shoes on that afternoon
And you're committed to doing it and you go
For some it might mean changing the strings on that guitar of yours
Or changing the bearings on your skateboard
And getting yourself outside again

(24:04):
For some it's wiping off the dust of your Bible and opening it up and finding up the and putting that pencil inside
Getting ready for you to be there the next morning
And setting it's your clear desk and preparation for tomorrow morning's reading of the scripture really
cleaning getting ready find in the Bible putting it there in the space creating a space where you meet God

(24:30):
Romans 10 17 says faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God you need faith put your nose in the word and listen
We we like to think that that seeing is is is believing also
Well faith shows the reality of what we hope for and the evidence of the things that we can't see

(24:55):
Faith comes by hearing and faith comes by seeing
The writing is on the wall and faith comes by seeing and hearing from God
And may I add faith comes by taking action
On the information that you've been given so far ask God to give you a future

(25:20):
Uh future he's promised that he would
Ask him to give you a vision for that future
And expect an answer and take action
My dad used to say pray for potatoes and grab a hoe
I think that's really great advice
For those that don't know that's what you do when you're garden

(25:42):
You pray for potatoes you grab the hoe you dig the trenches you put the seed in cover it up and pray for rain
Most men really are made for more
before you leave today
To yourself and to another man
And call them as soon as we finish here commit to take action today

(26:05):
To be the man to further the process to take that step towards being the man that God
Created you to be
Email us if you'd like we'd love to keep you accountable at at at dudes at standupdude.com
And let us know the action step that you the vision that you're gonna pursue and the action step that you're gonna take and we'll we'd love to stay in communion with you

(26:32):
So then stay ready and be the man that you're created to be
Thank you Tim. I really appreciate what you had to say and I think there's probably a good chance
There are a lot of guys that are
At least taking pieces of that to heart and as as they go about their day their week

(26:55):
There's going to be more of that that begins to come to light and
I don't want to I want to let them know you can go to our website standupdude.com

(27:45):
This is not just for fun. We are here because we want to reach
people with news that is good
We call that the gospel and good news
This is something that is the most important news that you could possibly hear and that is that you
First it's bad news right you are separated from God because of sin

(28:08):
Sin separates
Sin has a penalty that penalty is death. That's the wages actually that it pays the payment the worst job in history
You could say yeah, and that's that's your reward
But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus and it says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord

(28:31):
And you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved
That you can put your hope in faith in Jesus right now that it isn't about you
performing to impress God, but that it is about
What God has done for you in Jesus? He's the hero and he's the one that you need and I need we all need
So if that's something that has

(28:53):
Peaked your heart today that is peak your curiosity again go to standupdo.com

(29:16):

Yeah, and this is what we've spoken of meeting your creator
loving your creator serving your creator my dad used to say that God's will
is an unfolding revelation and he will

(29:38):
Bring you to be the man that he's created you to be
Start with knowing who that creator is it's Jesus and he loves you. Thank you. Amen
