Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, Dylan Brooks here your friendly neighborhood guide to
all things stoic. Ever feel like life's just a woman
of tadas, deadlines and in this notifications, Yet me too.
That's why I started this little project, The Stark Mind
Jimio daily workout from Mental Fitness. Today, we're tackling something
super powerful but often overlooked, mindfulness in the mundane. Think
(00:23):
about it. We spend most of our time on Autopila,
rushing through chores, scrolling through screens, barely registering what's happening
around us. But imagine if we could bring a sense
of presence and intention to even the simplest tasks. That's
where mindfulness comes in. It's not some mystical practice reserved
amongst some mountain caves, though they seem pretty chill. Mindfulness
(00:44):
is about actively engaging with your experiences, noticing your thoughts
and feelings with that judgment, and finding that sweet spot
of being fully present in this very moment. And trust me,
it can be a total game changer. You'll feel less stressed,
more connected to yourself in the world around you, and
even fine joy in the things you might usually take
for granted. So are you ready to level up your
(01:05):
daily life. We'll all up because here are five key
takers to get you started. Firstly, ditch the autopilot mo Evan.
Notice how you can do a task like washing dishes
an autopilot. You're just going through the motions without really
being there. Bring awareness to each step, the feel of
the warm water, the scent of the soap, the rhythm
of your movements. It sounds silly, but it can actually
(01:28):
make mon na intaths more enjoyable. Secondly, savor the little things.
We get so caugh hop and chasing big gulls that
we forget to appreciate the small winds, a delicious cup
of coffee, a sunny day, a half fought conversation with
a friend. Take a moment to truly experience these moments,
notice the details, and let yourself feel gratitude for them. Thirdly,
(01:48):
embrace boredom. Yes, you heard me right. It are always
on world. We're constantly seeking stimulation, but sometimes embracing those
quiet moments of boredom can be incredibly better. Official It
allows your mind to wander, sparks creativity, and helps you
connect with your infer thoughts and feelings. Soap, put down
the phone, step away from the screen and just be Fourthly,
(02:12):
practice mindful listening. We often hear words without truly listening.
Our mind's already racing ahead to formulate a response. When
someone's talking to you, give them your full attention. Focus
on their words, their tone of voice, their body language.
This not only shows respect, but also deepens your understanding
and connection with the other person. Finally, cultivate self compassion.
(02:35):
We're all human and we make mistakes. Instead of beating
yourself up over slip ups, treat yourself with kindness and understanding.
Acknowledge your own perfections, learn from them, and move forward
with grace. Remember you're doing the best you can, and
that's enough. Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine
your preparing dinner, chopping vegetables, stirring a pot, listening to music.
(02:58):
Instead of letting your mind work your to do list
or yesterday's drama, focus on each set, the feel of
the knife against the cutting board, the aroma of the spices,
the warmth of the stove. You're fully present in that moment,
enjoying the process and appreciating the simple act of creating
a meal for yourself. That's mindfulness in action. Turning ordinary
tasks into moments of mindful awareness. So remember these key takeaways.
(03:23):
Be present, savor the little things, embrace boredom, practice mind
for listening, and treat yourself with kindness. This isn't about
achieving some perfect status end. It's about gradually weaving more
intention and presence into your daily life, one mindful breath
at a time. Ready to take action, try incorporating one
of these practices into your day to day. Share your
(03:44):
experiences in the comments. I love hearing how you're applying
these stoke principles to your lives, and don't forget to
subscribe so you don't miss up on future episodes packed
with wisdom and inspiration. Until next time. Keep training that mind, Jim,
and remember a comm mind conquers all. This podcast is
