Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's up everyone out there in internet land, and welcome
to episode four forty two of the Straight Shooters available
wherever podcasts are found. My name is Vaughan Johnson, and
I'm joining as always by my main man, Pots and
Pants and Pacona Crossing Broad and Fox Phlo Gambler, and
we have yet another fantastic show ahead of us here
on episode four hundred and forty two. We've done over
(00:36):
four hundred of these things, but on this the latest episode,
the four hundred and forty second episode.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It is a deep dive.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
We're diving deep and to the Fall Brawl war games
from nineteen ninety four. So it's fall. I think officially
turned fall this past Sunday. Was it this past Sunday? Yeah,
I think so. I think that was the last night
of summer. So we're officially in fall, one of my
favorite seasons. I think this is my favorite season. We
combine football and Halloween and everything else with it. Not
(01:06):
the heat, not the heat that we're experiencing right now
as I say this, but typically you know, it's a
little cooler around this time, and hopefully it'll get there soon.
But why not commemorate that with a classic Fall brawl
from nineteen ninety four. But before we get into a
deep dive and of course our current day nonsense, I
do more weekly check on my main man, pops and pants. Nick.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
How are you on this Friday evening?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
My good brother?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
What a win Sunday for the Eagles? Where were you
when that happened?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
On my couch working watching the game and having two
graphics ready to post at the same time. I had
one where the Rams won and one where the Eagles
won in case they missed it or blocked it.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Published that Patreon.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Just in case, and I had but the copy that
I wrote down in the post was losing copy.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Just no, just no.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And then once the kick was blocked and then Jordan
Davis was running down the field at eighteen miles per
hour at three hundred plus pounds, was scared.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
That's like a car.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I heard some rumbles from my apartment.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
But once that happened and pandemoniums broke out, just changed
the copy to like I didn't have any like in
depth copy at that point. It was just like the
Eagles won, because that's what everybody else was saying. So
but you know, that was a little bit of a
in the moment conveying the feeling kind of post there
(02:47):
because everybody else was screaming.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
So yeah, that was wild.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
That was a tail of two games, right, and I
remember just being like, oh, I'm gonna have to hear
crap not only from the worst bad faithers we have
here in Philly, but the l A. Rams and their fans.
They have fans like I'm sure they have at least
one that will probably find me on social media or
(03:15):
fight Eagles fans and just go, yeah, baby, here we go.
That was harborvenge and you know the Rams, the Rams
are number one and all that I didn't knew it
should have beat last year. Did not want to hear
that at all. So, you know, the second half where
they got the first touchdown, I was like, Okay, at
least you know, they'll make it respectable maybe and it
(03:37):
won't be like another forty nine Ers game from twenty
twenty three. Yeah, that was bad. And then they scored
the other the second touchdown together within I think it
was five right, twenty six twenty one yep. And and
then obviously the last one where they took a lot
a lot of time off the clock march down the
field from like their own end zone. Basically just like
(03:59):
the Sun folks. That's methodical, man, that's what I love.
I was like, oh my god, they're gonna win this
game just based on how they were moving the ball
down the field that last drive. So and I'm sitting
here like I almost gave up on I almost gave up.
I did because during the games now I try to
grab the clips as we go. Uh, just a lot
(04:20):
easier for me talk regardless to timing and all that stuff,
Like I don't want to waste the rest of my
sundays doing That's what I did anyway. But it was
just an incredible ending, that's why. And I had no
problem doing that. But during the course of a game, I'll,
you know, try and get the clips, and if we
wind up losing, I'll just delete them. And yeah, I
(04:41):
don't save it. I do not save the ones that
I that I make. If we lose, I get rid
of them because I don't need that stuff a little
that and my hard drive, my hard drive does not
need that at all. So I was saving them and
I was like, I don't know, like should I start, Nah,
I'm not going to start. I waited till they got
(05:06):
the go ahead touchdown, but then once they failed the
two plugin version, I stopped. I was like, oh yeah,
I could see the Rams just marching down and getting
the game winning field goal, which they almost did. Almost,
but Jordan Davis, Man, he said nah. And that was
just an incredible one of the best regular season games
we've seen. And I can't remember how long exciting a
(05:31):
game where you were like, Okay, they have no shot.
It wasn't even like close, right, You're like, okay, they
got no shot to win this. And then it was
like the second half where you're like, oh, like maybe maybe,
And then even when they were losing twenty six to
twenty one, I was like, at least, you know, they
made it respectable and I'll feel better about this loss
moving forward to this week against Tampa. But they wound
(05:52):
up winning, and man, that the rest of Sunday and
a Monday and even Tuesday, even Wednesday. Man, it was
a lot of fun just being a part of that
type of win that we just haven't seen that much.
And dude, I don't even care that the Phillies lost
in Arizona. I would have been annoyed.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Drawn by though you know, they're still doing pretty good.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, yeah, I would have liked the for one seed
and at least, you know, handle business in Arizona, which
is similar to like our city field issues. But you know,
I'm not that negative nick right now, so you know,
but there's plenty of times over there's plenty of time
for the Phillies and Needles to change that. But I'm
not going to uh try. I'm going to try to
(06:36):
rise above. Like John Cena says.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Jared McCain's got hurt. So there's there's something for you
to worry about. I guess.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Sixers. I ain't even worried about that. They brought back
those black jerseys too. I'm not a fan. WHOA, I
know it's the AI I wrote, but I never I
never thought they were good looking.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
WHOA, hold on, that's not true at all.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
May not be.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I know people, there are people that like it. I
just don't see I don't see.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
It, man. It may be a departure from the rest
of seventy six ers history, which is traditionally red, white
and blue. Because they're the seventy six ers, right av,
That's why they would choose those colors. But the departure
was a dope departure, especially for the time, especially for Iverson.
It's maybe maybe it's nostalgia because that was my childhood,
(07:27):
obviously our childhood, and there wasn't there was that Jerseys.
Wasn't every household, every household had an Allen Iverson jersey.
I had an Allen Iverson Sixers jersey of that era.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Yeah, and he kind of got made fun of if
you have like an older jersey, like a Barkley jersey or.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Right, you can't even rock the Clarence Witherspoon. Get that
out of here, right right, you better get an Iverson
or McKee or Eric Snow or but Tumbo rest in peace,
George Lynch, I thow Tyrone Hill and then come on, now.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Come on that guy, that guy man, come on.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Tony Kukach is there for a little bit too, you know. Yeah,
but but yeah, the Sixers brought back those jerseys this week,
and Nick apparently not a fan.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Get it together.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
I just don't. I don't see it get one the
like tonight the Phillies are wearing their city connects and
a lot of people just aren't a fan of that.
But that's kind of how what I feel about the Sixers.
Black jerseys.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I don't love the Phillies Connect. Mostly it's not good.
I don't love them.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
The font is it kills me. I just don't like that.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Fine, I don't like it. It just doesn't look great
to me. It's such a departure from the Phillies font,
the typical font, which is a great font.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
H But this is why you love the Sixers black jersey.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
No, that looks great. This is totally different. No, man, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
The departure, it's not just departure. It doesn't look good.
The uniform itself isn't bad. And the hat, the Phillies
City Connect hat is fied.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, man, I got on.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I got a Liberty bell.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Hat that is fire.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I ain't gonna hold you. But the font on the
front is just in the number of Fine. I just
don't love it. If they change it, Even if they
change it, they don't have to use their typical Phillies fund.
They could change to a different font, just not that one.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
It should change it to the font that the bets
use on the It says New York with like the
the fancy lettering that'd be hilarious or Philly and like
cursive or something maybe.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Maybe Speaking of uniforms, see the Cardinals uniforms from the
Thursday night game.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
They're like rivalry uniform.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
So I made a clip of the Cardinals radio call
at the end, and I wasn't even paying attention to
their jerseys, so I did not come on it's such
a like. I literally watched it, but it's.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Like like desert saying looking it was kind of it
was interesting, Oh.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Okay, Like I I remember seeing Kyler Murray sitting on
the bench and I was like, oh, like he got
I guess he got roughed up, looked like because they
looked like like.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
What happened to him?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Who did he kill? Out there? Uh No, that's just.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Part of Jonathan godn't do it over there, man.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
It's not.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
It wasn't a bad unit, I will admit. And I
do love to use of the state flag for Arizona
and anything they do because they have a cool state flag.
I think the Cardinal should use it more. Why not?
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Uh but Seahawks jersey was cool though. I do like theirs.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
That's the typical uniform.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I know that's what I'm saying. I know we're talking
special jerseys, but I figured I throw that in there.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Okay, the Seahawks have nice uniforms too.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
You know, the Twins have nice uniforms. Then they did.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I like their uniforms. I like this too.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
We can't have a whole uniform.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, we need to brought back pinstripes in baseball. Too
many teams are getting the stripes.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
So that's a good point. How many teams with pinstripes
out the Phillies Yankees do the White Sox with pinstripes.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
I believe white so White Sox, the Reds, I think Cubs, right,
maybe the discovered of Theirs. Yeah, the Cubs. The Twins
are wearing Theirs tonight in Philly. They're away uniform has
pinch stripes. But doesn't I feel like not as many teams.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
I just feel like we named like ten teams. I
thought it was like two.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Should like more than it was like twenty years ago.
What all you talking about?
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Right?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Because I feel like less teams will pinch strike day
the pitchtripes make it up in the Phillies. It's like
in the Phillies. I guess the Cubs have had their
oldest franchise and sports damn there, so maybe they've had
him for a long time. But either way, all right,
let's get into some current day rattling nonsense.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
I guess we have to write we do, we.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Do, there's a retirement in the near future.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Next year, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
No, no, no, no, next year.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
No. Johnson is twenty twenty five, but twenty twenty six
would belong to the phenomenal one AJ Styles, who apparently
told Tokyo Sports that he's hanging it up sometime next year.
Didn't give an exact date, but sometime next year we
will see AJ Styles' final match.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Like second, it's like, what the hell's happening?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
But yeah, he uh, he's hanging him up.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
He's forty eight years old, and he's been doing it
for twenty years straight, pretty much, at least twenty five years,
I'm pretty sure at this point. Yeah, because yeah, ninety nine,
two thousand, so he's done that at a super high
level for a long time. I feel like, before you know, obviously,
(12:34):
time comes for us all and AJ Styles is, as
far as we know him as super athletic doing Peyley
kickstill at damn near fifty phenomenal form. And I guess
if you get older and your body's breaks down a
little bit can't do those moves anymore. It's like it's
time for me to go away now. So we'll power
to AJ Styles. Man, he's had an incredible career and
(12:54):
he's still still going strong. He's probably still, in my opinion,
got at least two years left in him. But he's
hanging him up next year. But yeah, tip of the
cap to AJ Styles, who has had an incredible run.
Who would have thought that after he went from TNA, right,
and he was known as the TNA poster boy for
so long. I if you told me to put money
(13:16):
on whether he would have succeed in WW I would
may not have done it because it's Vince McMahon's company.
And who's to say that he likes AJ Styles right?
Like he wasn't his creation. He's not the tallest, biggest
guy in the world. But no, he pushed AJ Styles,
made him a chance, put him on the cover of
the video game. How crazy is that? So yeah, AJ
(13:39):
Styles absolutely a bona fide legend and apparently hanging him
up next year. Do you have any thoughts in AJ
Styles announcing preemptively announcing his retirement.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
No, Yeah, it's like, okay, I probably you know, harken
back to his career in twenty twenty six, but right
now it is kind of like, okay, like I think
we all as if you were figure this was coming
at some point, I'm not sure that we would have
thought he would, like do we do we think of
(14:11):
so John Cena type thing? Where is he gonna go
in a farewell tour?
Speaker 2 (14:15):
I mean he deserves one.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
I mean I could see it, but I don't think.
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, it'll be done at a high of a level
as John Cena, But for the career he's had, I
wouldn't mind a a mini tour for a j styles.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
It's not like he's not like he's worthy that, and
it's not like he's trying to, you know, shuffle around
a movie schedule or TV.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Schedule we've got for the whole year.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Yeah, you could probably use him and a lot more
that than Scena has been in this year.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
So do a much better job John Cena.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yeah, maybe brought five of them ten times or something,
which I'm sure we'll talk about that, but yeah, I
aj awesome. Like I loved him in TNA, didn't really
pay much attention when he was in WCW because it
was towards the tail end, and you know, I was
out on WCW, but man Aj. When AJ left DNA,
I was actually like upset. I was, yeah, and he
(15:14):
went to Japan. I'm like, I think it was at
the time we still weren't getting uh. I guess it
was before New Japan World was the thing, so we
didn't really see j and JPW that much here. So
I was like, oh, like, I just wanted to watch
him in TNA, and I was super annoyed when he
lost that. I think it was like a winner and
(15:35):
take all type batch and he lost to Magnus, who
is uh And I remember being like, oh, there's no
way AJ is losing this, and then he lost and
I was wrong, So that pissed me off. But yeah,
like uh, I like I love watching like listen, his
w W stuff is great too, Like I couldn't have
(15:55):
imagined him having a similar type career in w W
that he did in TNA, but he really had. But
CNA he was the guy.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
He was the guy.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
So he was like, there are probably kids old enough,
you know, listening to this and watched WW now because yeah,
I think ay Style has been in WW for nine years.
It'll be ten years in January, like a couple months
from now. Wild because he's debuted in the Royal Rumble
in twenty sixteen. So he's talking about a decade that
(16:26):
went by like lightning.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
It really did.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Could you like think about the ten years? It was
such a shock just to see him show up one time,
just one time, him showing up, whoa and the Rumble.
If it never happened again, it still would have been huge, Like, Wow,
we got to see it once. We're so fortunate, how
lucky yowe remember that one crazy time AJ Styles showed up.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Instead, he's been.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
There for ten years straight, so that's insane. Man, I
forget where I was going with this.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
It's funny like he showed up, right, and that was
the Royal Rumble. Worth Romans was on the line, so
I think we, yeah, some of us Aka may talk
to ourselves into oh my god, hej might with.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
The title oh yeah yeah on first night in right,
But that was going I forgot.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I lost track.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
But what I'm saying is there's people old enough who
probably don't even remember prime AJ Styles and TNA. Yeah,
because he didn't leave until twenty thirteen, fourteen. But the
TNA had was going down to tubes by that point,
and he wasn't doing anything of really significant spy that point.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
But go back to like.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Two, three, four, five, six, three, like oh eight, and man,
those uh, those those ex division matches he would have
with Elix Skipper and Christopher Daniels some still some of
the best wrestling you'll see and some of the best
wrestling you've seen coming out of TNA ever period. So
(17:49):
you go back and when maybe it'll be on a
plot streaming platform that ww is affiliated with at some point,
maybe it'll be on Peacock soon or something. But if
you get a chance to check out some of those
TNAS impacts, especially from uh the Spike TV days or
even before that when they was do the weekly pay
per view schedule or Fox Sports Net or whatever it was,
and those are available somewhere, how they are. Was that
(18:12):
yeah going back, man, Yeah, going back. You gotta go
back and see see the classics. So uh yeah, check
check check it out.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Man. That was on like the Comcast Sportsnut channel. Right
they've returned to Fox Sports like night and Overnight and
then come back for like Sports Rise and everything, and
it's like, yeah, it's going on. That's before I understood
TV and how TV works.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Mhmm, yeah, you didn't know where to find a j
Styles some O Joe another incredible counter.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
I definitely so. I think it was unbreakable right where
the three way between Styles, Daniels and Joe incredible made it.
I think that was like my favorite match.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Yeah, that was the main event of the show too.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Forever. It felt like forever before another match happened and
I was like, oh my god, like this this is
my favorite match now. Man like was not having matched
the year candidates, like especially after buying w CW, like
TNA was where okay, like this is Matt wrestling. Uh yeah, like.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Like shoot, but you didn't see wrestles like AJ Styles
anywhere else right, and working at the pace that we're
working at. And it wasn't like they were like cooperating.
It was like they were going against each other. And
then you get put some more with Joe in there,
who's just bruising, you know, bruising through people, like just
powering through people. It just such a contrast to what
(19:45):
AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels and Daniels kind of being
more the technical guy who could do the the you know,
the moon Salt and everything.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
It was just man magic.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
So those are and TNA made a household name and
the Cone household. A lot of those guys throwing that era,
so I wouldn't have known some ojo it wasn't for TNA.
Same with AJ Styles. I mean I knew the name
and I remember w CW, but I didn't watch him
until TNA. Like that was like TNA was AJ Styles
and a bunch of those guys, but AJ was like
(20:15):
the face you know of the company any Jeff Jarrard.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Notwithstanding No, yeah, yeah, no it AJ Styles. You you
tune into watch Impact to watch AJ Styles. Any dope
theme music too. Back in TNA, fire well back and
check out AJ Styles the music from TNA and the
entrance you would come out with the hood on and
throw the hood up. Now no, he still does that now.
It was just cool back in two thousand and five,
two thousand and four or whatever. It was just a really.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Cool back then.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
But let's move on to WWE, the company that AJ
Styles works for, and their debut on ESPN for Wressell Puloza,
not ec W Russell Paloza, not even an extreme rules
type deal.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Just Russell Paloosa.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
They just unearthed this name and just slapped it on
this show that they was rushing out there for ESPN.
I'm just give it disclaimer. I didn't watch Recapalooza, nor
did I watch All Out because I was out of
the house all day. So from what I've heard, though,
(21:19):
Recipaloosa did not live up to, let's say, a high
standard that ww I guess fans would expect from WWE. Right.
It felt short. It wasn't good, so much so that
ESPN's own Andreas Hale gave it a C.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
In his report card, and he was generous as well.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
I mean, from what I've heard again, when the opening
match is brock Lesner beating John Cena and ceremoniously.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Not great carbon copy of There's SummerSlam ninety four match.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Twenty fourteen, He's gotta span generations, Yeah, fall broad naughty
four on the mind, I think, yeah, that was I
didn't so I kind of thought seen it was gonna lose,
but I didn't want the same time a batch But
who am I kidding? Brock Lesler is not going to
do anything special. He's going to do what he does
(22:21):
and gets a rise out of whoever reacts to it
now in twenty twenty five, it's not for me anymore.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
I've seen it. Didn't think we needed a carbon copy
of a match that we saw eleven years ago to
open that show with something like that. That's really supposed
to get you hypes for the rest of the night, Like, yeah,
I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
I'd take Johnny be Bad versus Lord Stephen Rego. Hell, yeah,
I know, I know this was better. I know Lord
Stephen Rego and Johnny be Bad was better from fall
a Broad ninety four. Stop playing with me. But but yeah,
it didn't sound like it was a false star the imagination.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Would you rehashing the same thing for like do you
think you're getting as And.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
It wasn't really like this. I mean, it was a
classic moment.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
But in twenty fourteen, of the means to an end,
you had Rock who just beat the undertaker the industry.
So of course he kills Sena and wins the title,
so you can make Brock to you know, the big
monster heel that you wanted him to be. So it
made sense in twenty fourteen to have him wiped the
floor of John Cena. I guess maybe they're trying to
(23:41):
run it back. Maybe seen it gets this revenge. Maybe
you don't blot like that. I mean, he's gotta face
aj Styles first apparently.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Oh yeah, it's got about that jewel.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
That's happening at Crown Jewel.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
As is all social media built, by the way, I
don't think it was a national TV at all.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
So there it is for the ciccos man. It's for
the sickos who remember A. J. Styles and John Cena
from twenty sixteen and seventeen.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yeah, that's right, sixteen and seventeen.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yeah, because they had the SummerSlam match in sixteen. Yeah
I think, yeah, yeah, sixteen.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Yeah, I'm thinking fifteen because of Kevin Allens. That's always
by the year I go too, but yeah it was
Kevin Ellens and fifteen.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yeah yeah, so but yeah, maybe they're running back.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Maybe that's his last match, is he gets to beat
brock Less to end his career, and maybe hopefully it
is not like F five F five F five attitude adjustment,
attitude adjustment, attitude adjustment. Maybe it's like more like their
match they had at Extreme Rules back in like what
was that twenty twelve when brock first came back.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Twenty eleven, something like that twenty twelve.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Yeah, so maybe it's like that, maybe it's more competitive,
and that's.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Where we all were like freaking out. That scenic one
by the way.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
That mess oh man, I remember, I mean it was.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
You're gonna beat Brock at his first match back?
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Why that was a decision. That was a decision though
when you think about it, like, don't forget that Brock's
first two years there, he was just a guy pretty
much like he lost a Sena, he lost a triple
h uh. He was just just another guy. It wasn't
really until they had him beat the Undertaker it's like, oh,
(25:19):
we should just have him beat everybody exactly. It's like, oh,
it took you two years to figure that out. He
had to pay his dues or something.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
And think sure, it was like damn it, Like what
the hell he had He had to he had to
do the honors to to to Sena and triple hs
before he beat anybody, or he beat.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
See him punk in twenty thirteen talk about that. He
did do that, beat the daylights out of him too.
But that's why I was so shocking, and he beat
the Undertaker because like it wasn't like brock Leslon was invincible.
Just saw him lost lose to Triple H the year
prior to WrestleMania, then heeded the street. So oh well,
anything else that you noticed from Wressell Palooza that uh
(26:00):
that either uh lent to Andreya's Hall's Andreya's Hall's C
grade or something that went against it.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I didn't really care about the next tag, although I
thought it was cool to see aj Beck, It's just
everything's rushed and I don't like that. So it really
was off putting to me just how fast things happened,
just because they wanted to put something up against all out.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Yeah, and then they got Crown Jewel and they're doing
the title versus title thing, which is also kind of
out of nowhere. And at least Cody and Seth has
a have a personal issue. But it's like like they're
gonna do on the other side for the women like
Stephanie the care and somebody make that make that personal.
You can't so.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
And yeah, Cody winning, I thought it was obvious, but
I thought maybe we would get someone like attacking him,
like a cliffhanger or something like you why not? What
where is that? Why?
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Crown.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
He Seth couldn't attack him.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Then he's on a diversion.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
No no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
They got to talk it out. First. They had to
talk about WrestleMania forty, which was I mean, was smart
bring up WrestleMania forty cod Seth was literally Cody shield
and the main event of one of the biggest matches,
you know, the biggest shows they've done in recent memory.
So it was fair to bring it up. I didn't
know Cody got everybody.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Brown come out and attack him, and then Seth be like, hey,
I didn't I didn't tell him to do that. But
now that we're here, you know, let's you know, like
beat you up like I'm.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Gonna beat you up too.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
In the perth.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Indeed, like any thing like that. I was like, you
need like a hot ending too, And it's just like
everything fell short of what they wanted us to think
was going to happen. Now you're putting it's been a
year and a half now or like over over that
of them kind of like, Okay, we're listening to you guys,
We're gonna do this, stay stay with us, We're gonna
(28:01):
have surprises and stuff. That's been just way too long
since we really.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Have Yeah, WW likes to take their sweet time delivering
on big moments, right, but then they I don't know,
it's weird. It's like it's slow, but they also packing
the show with a lot of people proc lessing their
aj lee, like Cody versus Drew Mcatire. But it doesn't
feel like Then you watch the show and nothing feels
like anything happened, right, So it's kind of weird. At
(28:26):
the same time, it's like there's so much happening and
yet does you could have skipped the show and missed
nothing exactly. At the same time, it's like there's spinning
and wheels like you burn it out in the car.
You're going nowhere. He's just in the same spot. You
just digging deeper into the mud. And so it feels
like WW is doing at times creatively it's kind of
weird a little bit. And I feel like twenty twenty
(28:48):
four was a pretty good year for them creatively, and
twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Five is rocky, Yeah, and it's funny list.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
No pun intended, because the rock was heavily involved in
a big earlier this year that started out hot and
then fizzled immediately so, and it was like, it's like
the biggest storyline of the whole year. It's like the
biggest through line of the whole year. And it did
not work, and it did not work to a point
where they just abandoned it.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
The day before SummerSlam, just the day before.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Pulled the plug on that. He's still retiring, but he's
not a heel no more. We're sorry, He's sorry. All right,
Back to I regularly scheduled programming. Brock Lester come back,
beat the beat the daylights out of him, just like
old times. See good God, John Cena again, just like
old times. Now let's shift gears to the other promotion.
(29:45):
Who had to show last Saturday, All Elite Wrestling with
All Out in Toronto. Another show I did not personally watch,
but I've seen plenty of recaps and highlights. There were thumbtacks.
It was four hours. Eddie Kingston came back. Uh Adam
Page is still the world Champ. We got a new
(30:06):
women's World Champ and yeah, edgend Christian teamed up again
and Beth Phoenix got pile dropped by ftr CO, which
is best.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
I don't know what they can call it.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Beth Phoenix, beth Copeland, Copeland, Emmy.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
I guess Bethany Copeland got to be called.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Cope and Bope.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I actually watched that over, you know, Seth and Becky
versus Punk and.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Cope and Bope.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Also, speaking of women's wrestlers, uh AW is also bringing
out women's tag team titles.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Okay, so okay, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Another set of championships and aw, they got so many.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
They get a position that above the unified title.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
I mean, I don't should the titles look good though,
they look like the men's world titles.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
I mean great, I mean that is the least they
could do, right for however long they have that first
women's world title. Man, I've been on it and they
finally changed it. So good for them.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Understanding the value of a good looking.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Belt, yeah, I mean, I don't know. The unified title,
it's just there. What's the point of it.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
I'm sorry, I don't.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
I don't get it. I don't.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I don't understand. It needs to be explained to me.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
That's it. Maybe after an explanation, it'll make sense. Women's
tag team titles makes sense. They've been having women's a
lot of women's tag team matches especially this all star
like eight man tags they do every week for like
five hundred grand. Uh, just make them tag teams, man,
you got a lot of women on the roster. Tag
team it up and have something for I guess you
know the different shows. Just a lot of titles, man,
(31:59):
and they got to ring up of titles on TV,
so many championships in in a w uh anything else
you wanted to mention from All Out? Nope, the fallout
from All.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Out didn't wan. Hey, I like that. Why didn't I
type it like that? That was great kudos, But no,
I didn't watch it and didn't really catch it he
recaps or like I had Dynamite on, but I wasn't
really paying attention. We got these the stan Phillies team
piss pisces me off where they take my attention away
(32:32):
from what's important in life for wrestling. Yeah, so I
did not watch as much Dynamit like it was on
in the background, but didn't really. I can't tell you
anything that happened on dynam although I will say I'm
glad aw started putting their logo in the middle of
the ring. I know they've had it there for like
(32:53):
a few months at least now at this point, it
looks so much better than just the plain old stuff
or random as is the way w W has their
mats now, Like I didn't think it would annoy me
as much as it does, but it does because they should.
They should at least put the events logo on the
mat as well, and doesn't do that.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
So no, that space could be sold.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
But you in between the top ad like the corner
AD and then one in the middle, you could do
it like between that space.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
No, no, no, if you want to make the most, if
you want to maximize the earning potential on this matt,
the best space to sell is the center, big centerpiece. Bro,
it's gross.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
You can move it down a center dead center.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
You're gonna still see it on team charge.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Someone at least a million dollars.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Just move it. I'm just saying I just move it down.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Morally, I feel like outside of capitalism, I'm with you,
But inside capitalism for WWE a special even if aw
if they could sell that spot, they damn well better
Okay down that type of money, that good money.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
He's one. They haven't had one in a while.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
They haven't, but maybe they don't. Maybe they won't. But
I feel like if the opportunity arises and the check clears,
do it. Especially awww they get plenty of money in
other places they don't. Maybe you can say, hey, maybe
I'm gonna turn down an opportunity or two. Aw is
not in that position. Take the money, take the money.
I feel like the dude from Boomerang. I don't know
(34:34):
if you've seen Boomerang, but Eddie Murphy. He tries to
talk to a woman in a park, but he pretends
to have a dog, so he buys uh he buys
a couple's leash off from their dogs, so they have
a dog in the leash. He's like, I buy that
leash on me for twenty dollars and the lady is like,
uh what, And the dude's like, take that good money.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Food.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
She coughs up to the leash and he uses the
leash to pretend that he's calling his dog kurbye. So
the lady walks by, it's like, oh my god, are
you missing your dog? And he's like, Kirby curbby, are
you And he used the leashed as proof that he
had a dog.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Did the other dog run away?
Speaker 4 (35:15):
No?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
The other dog was they carried him.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
I guess good, No, they had Yeah, they had the
dog with the leash and he's like, I just want
the leash and they gave it up.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
I think it sounds like it would have been a
funnier scene if the dog just ran away after that. People.
That's a sad scene, I know, but like it'd be
funny with Eddie Murphy, he making.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Fun making funny somehow. He just laugh it's all.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Right, and like look at him and he's like, my
leash now or something like that.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
This is why you don't write comedies, Eddie. Just make
it better, Eddie, make it funny. Make everybody feel.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Better, the viewers, not the actors.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Make the viewers feel better.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
But do something funny and then and scene cut, send
it straight.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
To the room perfect to edit it.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Stood this straight in.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Movies on my passion.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
You know what, I gotta watch the So my first
Eddie Murphy movie I watched was Nutty Professor. So I
think I feel like I need to watch that again
because it's been a while and I remember thinking it
was very funny. Funny.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Watch that again.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
But there are other movies like Boom.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Ring Classic should have win triple Maybe it did, but
it went triple platinum. In the hood tell you that
right now? Ninety two? So rom Com It's got Eddie Murphy,
Chris Rock, he's got a bit part. Really, But who
else we got? We got Martin Lawrence, David alland Greer,
(36:46):
Robin Gibbons, Hollie Berry, whoa, whoa, John Witherspoon classic. Oh man,
come on, man, you gotta watch it so good. I
feel like I'm missing people who was in that movie.
But if I did, I'm sorry that you are listening
(37:09):
to right, they're listening. Somebody is listening. I'm like, damn,
there's somebody else in that movie that I could mention
that I can't remember.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Oh well, are you ready?
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Speaking of the nineties, are you ready to go back
to nineteen ninety four for fall Bra War Games?
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Man? This era of WCW. I am ready.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Let's do it all right. Fall Bra War Games in
nineteen ninety four from World Championship Wrestling took place in
September eighteenth, nineteen ninety four. The show emanated from the
Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke, Virginia, building now known as
the Berglan Center. Did you know that?
Speaker 3 (37:56):
No? Did we just talked about Roanoke last.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Week we did. I don't recall that at all.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Unless it was af air and we were talking about
this show. Maybe I feel like I was. I put
it on. I was like, oh, Roanoak, me and Paul
were talking about that last week, not on the podcast,
so I wasn't sure.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Yeah. I don't recall thinking about Roanoke until I started
doing research for this show. No, no, like disrespect to
the good people of Roanoke, Virginia. Just not necessarily a
talent that's top of mind for me. That's just me,
all right. But I did get some research. I went
down a rabbit hole a little bit. I'm not gonna lie,
(38:37):
so bear with me a little bit.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Rabbit hole.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
Yeah, there you go. And that sounds that sounds crazy
taking so many different ways, that is wild. But so
I was looking up. I was like, Hey, the Berglan Center.
Who plays at the Berglan Center. It's gotta be some
type of sports team, right, Yeah. Their primary tenant is
a team called the I want to know rail Yard Dogs.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
It is three names.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
On this team dogs, Yes, rail Yard Dogs, r y
D not jy D r y d uh.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
They play in the s p h L or the
Southern Professional Hockey League.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
And in case you were wondering, Uh, the rail Yard
Dogs again three named team, not like the Blackhawks or
the White Sox or Red Sox or something like that,
where there's other two name teams and minor league baseball
and stuff like that. You know what I'm saying. Never
heard of her three name team though, right, not Blue J's,
not the Blue Red Jas, just Blue Jas.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Rail Yard trail blaze that's one.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
I think, trailblazers.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
That might be two words too.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Yeah, I always thought it was one. By the way,
it might be two words in a wiki search and
it was like trail space Blazers, blazers.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah, yeah, not too many, but da there's some two
name teams, right, just named a few, not a lot
of three name ones. But the rail Yard Dogs here
they are and three names. They finished in third place
last year in the SPHL, finished but they lost in
the first round of the playoffs. In case you were
wonder so I'm doing more digging, I'm all right, what
(40:16):
else they got? I recognized that the SPHLD they played,
they're going to play a fifty eight game schedule this year,
which means the rail yard Dogs will have twenty dowe
home games they have they have a theme night for
being there, every single one of them.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
You want to hear something, Oh I do, I do?
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Watch how I bring this back around?
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Though?
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Just stay with me, with me, let's stick with me. First,
you have Opening Night. It's just Opening Night, that's the theme.
Right October seventeenth, they're playing the Huntsville Havoc in case
you were wonder. But then we go right into Scooby
Do Night on October twenty.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Fifth, will be there.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Right then they have a Military Night and a food
drive night around Thanksgiving and they have a stick to
stick it to Cancer Night as they call it.
Speaker 6 (41:09):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
And those are nice, you know, endeavor stuff like that.
But what about blow up races on ice Night on
November fifteenth?
Speaker 3 (41:17):
I'm sorry, blow up racist on ice Night.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
In Roanoke, Virginia.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Race racist or.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Racists racist like you know, like NASCAR races, not blow
up Racist's right? What does that look like? What the
picture are you doing with that? Don't say it, don't
say it. Just have a pop up picture in your
mind and tell me off the air.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
No races our a c on I blow up races
gotta go to the rail.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Yard Dogs game to find out baby.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Locals my local speedway them maybe I don't know, go
up to Poconon and ask them dover either one. Yeah,
like Dovers is closer? I guess it is closes. It's
like thirty minutes away. Pocono's about hour and a half.
But they got a theme night called Thursday Thursday. You
(42:21):
can go to both of those. It's two of those,
December eleventh and January eighth. You can go and get
a beer for only three dollars. Oh wow, hire extra security.
Rail Yard Dogs might be some drunk drunkards at the game.
Speaker 3 (42:36):
That's all you can drink.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
I mean, no, no each beer?
Speaker 1 (42:40):
Come on, Oh you could drink for three dollars. Man,
people going to the hospital.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
List a been. I don't know what they do in Virginia.
Speaker 1 (42:51):
Man, Look that's I don't know if that's even legal.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
Shut the whole game down?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
What no three dollars.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
A piece? Then there's a rebrand night where they'll just
become a different team on January tenth. No decision on
what that is should be the Sixers. Then you got
small dog Race Night on February six small dog, small dog,
but not to be confused with Wiener dog races on
(43:22):
February seventh. Oh they're different, two different nights baby, back
to back.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Nights, so the Wiener is not small.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
Look, let's move on. There are more, though, but the
best one I found was on December twenty seventh. It's
called Rumble in the Rink and from the arena website
it says get ready for a night of action at
Rumbling the Rink night Enjoy pregame wrestling matches in Bergland
(43:51):
Hall featuring local amateur wrestlers before the dogs dawgs by
the way, you alright, dogs okay? When they faced the
Knoxville Ice Bears again two names, though not the Ice
Iceberg Bears like dogs in that one. The Ice Cold
(44:13):
Bears No ice Bears.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
The pregame event is free to attend when you present
a hockey ticket for this game.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Puck drops at seven o five.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
We'll see you there, man. No promotion was announced on that,
but I did some more digging.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Because why you're the man, this is why you.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Know, you know, this is why we do this.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
Man. So I'm like, is an amateur or is it proress?
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Independent? Pro wrestling.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
They cut like a wrestling style promo to promote this
game last year, and it's on their Facebook page. And
then somehow I stumbled upon the team recap of last
year's uh Drink Rumble on the Rink. Rumble on the
Rink one too. I don't know, but on their website,
on the team's website, Emeralds they should bro Why wouldn't you?
(45:04):
But according to the team website that the wrestlers were
from Pure Pro Wrestling, which is based out of Virginia PEP.
There you go. If I'm pp W, the Rumble on
the Rink is our biggest show. That is their wrestle
It's our WrestleMania straight up.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
The Stanley copp gonna come on.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
Right, That's our biggest show.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
But they have a free show coming up on Saturday,
September twenty seventh at the Clifton Forge Armory in Clifton Forge, Virginia.
So if you're in that area, go check them out.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
I guess yeah, if you listen to this within the
next twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Guy limited the amount of time.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
How did you hear about oh, the Straight Shoots podcast
on Spotify?
Speaker 1 (45:48):
Yeah, some guys in the Philly were talking about you.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
Maybe that's sponsorship.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
What the hell are they talking about Fall Broad ninety four.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
Oh, okay, they'll put two or two together.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
Oh I'm sure they would. Was that in Roanoke?
Speaker 3 (46:02):
All right?
Speaker 1 (46:02):
How did they get to us?
Speaker 3 (46:05):
They're talking about the raid one.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
In two minor league hockey teams.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
S p h L teams.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
So we still gotta keep up with the dogs fan
Now we look, we got the.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
Calgary hitman in that one hockey league in Canada. We
can be rail Yard Dogs fans too. Just pick it
up minor league hockey teams as we go. Uh, the
official minor league hockey teams of the Straight Shooters.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
What are the official podcasts of these minor league hockey teams?
Speaker 2 (46:36):
Look, we'll have guests on.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Who's your favorite wrestler.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
And why is it Brett Hart? Because your Calgary hitman.
There's only one name that you can say, Uh, he is.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
Brett Hart.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
You better not.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Say gold Bird, you might get cut.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
We're not allowed to do any show is that involve Goldward?
No deep dives?
Speaker 1 (47:07):
All right, back to w CW did we have to
and Fall Broad nineteen ninety four? Where are we we
are in the September of nineteen ninety four, and we're
only a couple months into Hawk Hogan's w CW tenure
and he's already not appearing on the show in person,
(47:27):
in person, and at this point he's.
Speaker 3 (47:30):
Been in on three shows. Right Saturday Night when he
made his debut and then Batch at the Beach, right
and then the Clash of the Champions. Pretty sure that
was it.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
And not fall Brad. He's world champion by the way.
Speaker 3 (47:42):
Yeah since July, so two plus months.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
So far, there you go, and he's not there, but
we will see him in the worst segment of the show.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
Yeah, you know, let's say now that is the worst,
the worst onun wrestling happening.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
We'll talk about it. We'll talk about it. Spoiler we agree.
But this is pre n W O w CW, so
it was still a little more cartoony, and it would
get more cartoony as ninety five turns, you know, going
to ninety five, but this roster was still stacked at
(48:21):
this point. That's stacked. Bro Pre New World Order w
c W had Vader Sting, Ricky, Steamboat, Steve Austin, Lord,
Stephen Riegal, Cactus Jack, Dustin Rhodes, Terry Funk and more.
I didn't mention John to be bad. How about the
(48:42):
how about stars and stripes? How about how about pretty wonderful.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
Arn Anderson bro stacked?
Speaker 1 (48:53):
How are they losing money like they were? Oh yeah,
whoa wow the nature Boy So like they had talent experience,
young guys and workers. You had your experience with like
Terry Funk of obviously HAWLK. Hogan, Ric Flair, you had
(49:16):
your Ricky Steamboat. You had your kind of current day
guys like Vader and Sting, and then you had your
up and comers like Cactus Jack and Steve Austin, Dustin Rhodes.
But you know, things changed.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
They got hotter.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
They don't get me wrong, but in ninety six, but
ninety five was tough times there. But we're gonna talk
a lot a little bit about Steve Austin and Cactus
Jack in particular, and later on this show as well.
But this show, according to good old Wikipedia, has six
five hundred people exactly in attendance for the second annual
(49:54):
Fall broad By the way, I should have mentioned. We
get to the intro of the show and it's like
a war themed type of type of deal where it's
like you're flying through some type of mission and it's
like people popping up on a screen and coordinate to
popping up.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
It was silly, but it was actually pretty fun.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
I liked it a lot.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
And unless that was a lot of the wsw intros
abound this time, they were all like silly, but in hindsight,
it's kind of.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Like the only thing you needed. It was still a
Turner production, so they weren't as inser kid as you
might see on WF. But uh, I think that was
part of the charm of w CW at the time,
where they weren't trying to be WF. You know, even
though they had Hogan come in, they were still like
(50:46):
and then the then Kevin Nash and the Sky Hall.
They definitely weren't WF because they were a lot better
Roddy Piper.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
Yeah, but they weren't, you know, they weren't. Uh. We
got a national anthem on this show from country singer
Martin del Rey. Ever heard of him, No, me neither,
but he had some top one hundred singles in the
US country charts and he did a fine rendition of
(51:19):
the national.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Anthem any in nineteen ninety four.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
I don't think so I should have checked the gear,
but I don't know. That's why he was in w W.
All right, don't ask all these questions. No, you had
some hits. He charted top one hundred, said top one hundred,
(51:44):
which is Look, I'm not knocking it, but you know
his levels to it as well. On the call is
Tony Shavanni, Bobby the Brain Heena with a neck brace,
and in the beginning we got Gene Oakland. But he
wasn't there the whole time, right, I don't think he was.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
He wasn't on commentary.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
It was just Bobby and Tony.
Speaker 1 (52:07):
Yeah right, yeah, but yeah, Bobby, heen' wearing a neck brace.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
Do you recall why he was wearing a neck brace?
Speaker 3 (52:13):
I don't know. So it's ninety four he had only
he had just gotten there, not that long before this,
so I don't know if he was trying to sell
something or because his debut. I don't think he was
wearing it. So maybe he got hit or let's try
to be funny about some or maybe he actually had
that surgery. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
He ain't wearing that.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
It might have been it might have been legit, and
then they would have played it off that he was faking,
but it might have been legit.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
I don't know, that's crazy. I see that, and I
can't help but think of Tony Kahan wearing it in
the draft room for the Jaguars. I'm surprised that peisn't
allowed it, but he's the only son. What you're gonna do?
Speaker 3 (52:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (52:54):
No?
Speaker 1 (52:56):
And then he went on one network and was like
talking crazy about man.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
Tony Connen was wild and bro.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
That was good stuff, good times when he did that.
But let's get into Fall broad nineteen ninety four with
our you know format, I categories of course match of
the night, worst match of the night, top non wrestling happening,
the worst non wrestling happening, which you kind of said already,
(53:26):
any hitting gyms, if there are any worst spot, best spot,
my dog spot, my spot, random thoughts, and yeah, that's it.
So I'll start off with you, Nick, what is your
best match of the night from Fall Brawl nineteen ninety four.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
I thought this was going to be a shoe in
to be war games, so I I almost did it
preemptively and then I didn't really have a lot to
say about it. But I also really loved Johnny B.
Bad versus Stephen regal Man, So yeah, I'm just gonna go.
(54:11):
I also had that as a hit and gem before
War Games. So can I make a one of my
favorite matches a hitten gem. I don't know if I'm I.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
Guess, I mean, but we make the rules on this show.
Speaker 3 (54:23):
True, true, So I'm gonna pick War Games just because
it was the main event. And I enjoyed seeing the
Nasty Boys kill Colonel Robert Parker. That actually made me
laugh and hit the way he sold it after the match,
and I did read something to where I think Dusty
said on one of the Legends of Wrestling or it
(54:44):
was like a show at some point that he soiled
himself after those elbow drops. Colonel Robert Parker had like
soiled himself. So man like, maybe they really they were
being stiff with him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Oh man, Just Robert Parker sounded git scared.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
He did.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
I'm so scared. I thought, who's going in the Who's
got to go on to Wall Games? It's supposed to be,
It's supposed to be.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
It was a hackou Oh lord, No.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
By the way, why did why does he look so
much bigger in WW than he did? In w W seriously.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Because w W had bigger guys Hogan and Warrior and.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
The biggest is.
Speaker 3 (55:30):
It because the ww ring was so much smaller.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
Maybe I don't know, he did look huge.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
He didn't wear shoes in w w F as Hackoo,
so but I remember just thinking, this dude's huge, Like
that's not the same guy. And I was like, but
he's Hakou, Like I'm not afraid of him, you know,
like because I would watch w W like periodically or
in the course of this, especially because Hogan went there,
but I didn't watch it weekly. I wasn't like a
(55:56):
habitual watcher or anything. So I remember seeing like Hakku,
I keep saying, Hawkou Meng show up and I just
remembering like wow, like he's a lot bigger. But I
just didn't care much for the old WWF guys going
to w CW. It wasn't Hogan was like the only
guy and then obviously Randy Savage later where I was like, oh,
(56:17):
like I should probably watch this, but other guys like
Ricky Steamboat Exul, Jim Duggan, like those type guys. I
didn't really care to see h in WCW. So I
think just off that like the Nasty Boys I didn't
really care about. But even Dusty Rhodse at this time,
(56:39):
I'm like, oh, I don't care about him. He's barely
on commentary at this point. He might be doing like
the weekend syndicated shows, but he wasn't. You know, it
was before Nitro, so you know, like I was just
kind of like, eh, okay. But the War Games match
I thought built up really well. I loved that they
started out with Orn Anderson and Dustin Rhodes from their
(57:02):
beef they had. I was like, oh, like, they're getting
right to it, which I thought, you know, that was
the longest period, right the five minutes, I believe, and
then I was like, yeah, two minutes after that. So
I thought it really set the pace wall for the
match itself that you could have. They basically carried the match.
You had that really entertaining five minute period, and then
(57:24):
of course you have to have the Nasty Boys going
there and then Terry Fuck and bunk House Bus. Yeah.
So I enjoyed, you know, that aspect of it. And
then obviously they had where they were just like torturing
Colonel Robert Parker where he eventually just had to submit.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
Oh god, they're dropping so many bulls on me, dropping
throwing balls on me lefting right. Somebody helped me surrender.
I give up.
Speaker 3 (57:56):
Four WCW. I thought it was, you know.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Fine, Robert Park. It sounded like you're on the plantation.
But I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
When he's scared.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
It cracks me up every time he's like, oh no, no,
when they told.
Speaker 2 (58:09):
Him that he had to go into the Wargames match,
there's nothing.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
Wrong with my heart. My heart's perfectly fine. Oh lord,
I gotta good. I gotta do what help man. I
think that's funny.
Speaker 2 (58:22):
You talked a lot about the match.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
The match. I agree with you. It's a lot. It's
just fun, just fun war games, nothing like too crazy.
It was my tenth best war games of all time,
according to my Wrestling Junkie rankings from him a couple
of years back.
Speaker 3 (58:38):
According to a source, you me.
Speaker 1 (58:41):
Uh yeah, I ranked it number ten on the list.
And again, it's just fun. It wasn't like a you know,
a barn burner. But it was the most fun match
on this show for sure.
Speaker 6 (58:54):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
In my opinion. I do love though, and I think
we got to talk about it just because we're here.
The build up to this match where Dusty is trying
to get Dustin to be his partner.
Speaker 3 (59:05):
Well, if you didn't watch w W TV, you were
caught up before.
Speaker 1 (59:09):
This match started, that's true. But it's so well done.
I feel like it's warrant. It warn't a mention like
the promo where Dusty is pleading to Dustin like I
want to want to be your partner, like come over
here sitting with a kissing the U Oh, how did
Dustin keep it together? That I would have been crowded
(59:31):
turned up a little bit watching it. But Na, Dusty, Dusty,
you've conveyned that emotion to his son, of course, his
real you know emotion.
Speaker 3 (59:39):
It was.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
It was great.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
And then the so super cheesy skit with Dusty Rhodes
going to the quote unquote hood.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
You know, the hood.
Speaker 1 (59:51):
Where the Nasty Boys hang out in this abandoned warehouse
with other white men arm wrestling and yelling and screaming
at each other. Went on the bad side of town
Jack and recruited the Nasty Boys.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
It's so stupid.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
But so good, so cheesy. Like an eighties action movie,
you gonna go to the other side of the tracks
to get some help. For this one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
I need someone nasty.
Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
Oh my god, Dusty showing up in this Canadian tuxedo
and his cowboy hat. Did you have a jean shirt on?
I feel like you had a geen shirt on. He
probably did, but either.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Way, let's get nasty.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
I'm watching it now. He did have I think he
did have a denim shirt of some story with his
cowboy hat. Walked into whatever this is supposed to be,
this compound that they're at, it's so good. It's so good,
and the match yourself, was a lot of fun. But
I do have an honorable mention, and it's not trying
to be bad versus Lord Stephen Regal. I agree with you.
(01:01:01):
That's my hitting gym. But I think the portion of
the triangle match that just involves Sting Invader was tremendous.
Notice suspect to the Guardian Angel, they had him out
there just to save time, just to get him out there,
I guess, in a big match, and then to like,
all right, let's have Sting rest up, make Vader look like,
(01:01:22):
you know, a badass, and then we get Stinging there
and then they go. But that portion of the match
I thought was tremendous. You know, you got the easy
story of Vader being a powerhouse and Sting fighting fighting
them all, fighting back from underneath, Harley Race getting involved.
(01:01:42):
He's taking a bump. I think Sting superplexed him on
the floor. He hit a super plex on Vader, which
is wild. Then they go into overtime because there's a
so the triangle Litten, let's back up for a second.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
This is.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
This is this is a little commonloe, it's a little convoluted.
So it's a triangle match, which is you would think, oh,
it's three way dance triangle. It's triple threat, so everybody's
fighting at the same time. No, Instead, they have like
back to back matches. One involved Vader and Guardian Angel
(01:02:19):
and Sting just kind of hung.
Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Out with like a bye to whatever. They didn't say that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:25):
I think it's just because it's Sting would and they
said Sting is a bigger name than Guardian Angel. So
Sting goes second. Just what it is, right, So yeah,
after Vader dispatches Guardian Angel, he has to turn right
around and go against Sting. So if anything's at a disadvantage,
(01:02:47):
but it's a little weird. Then they have time limits.
The first period between Vader and Guardian angels only fifteen minutes,
right or something like that, and then they turn around
do the same for Sting versus Vader. So they run
the time limit, but they're like, there has to be
a winner. We need a number one contender. Like, we're
not going home until we got a winner. So they
(01:03:08):
go to overtime, five minute overtime, right, and each guy
goes at it, you know, but nothing happens. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Then it goes to sudden death.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
It's like, okay, what's the difference, right, I thought sudden
death overtime just happened. But yeah, first pen no, no, no, no,
the stakes are even higher. Oh sudden death and according
to WW in nineteen ninety four, meant that it was
the first person to get knocked off their feet loses.
(01:03:41):
What yeah, oh yeah, It's like it turned into a
last man standing match without the ten count. If you
just left your feet, you lost, and the other person's
the number one contender to hagk Hogan's World Heavyweight Championship.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
Just by virtue of being able to stand.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Just by staying on your feet. If you try and fall,
you cook, you lose. Better watch out for a banana peel.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
All right, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
This it seemed like it was. It was. It was bizarre.
It's kind of convoluted. It seemed like a way to
beat Vader without getting him pinned. And maybe it starts
off that way because Vader is just wailing on Sting
right and Stay is only being held up by the rope.
So it sounds like things about to make a comeback here,
(01:04:30):
you know, and he eventually does and knocks Vader down. Unfortunately,
the ref didn't see that. Not only did the ref
not see it, this masked man who if correct him,
correct me if I'm wrong, is that arn Anderson in
that mask? It looks like him who was in the mask?
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Okay, so in that particular one, I believe it could
have been brutish beefcake. But when he Hogan, definitely definitely
and so I don't know if they did the double
switch or not. But dude, that guy almost got attacked
(01:05:12):
in the audience. See that, Bro.
Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
The Stings fans are rolling Oak when not playing Bro.
He don't have to fight his way out of there.
Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
I'm pretty sure he like swatted at him.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Yeah, from them some kids like trying to run kind
of running them down.
Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
Man, ask him.
Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
It's Scooby Doo. It's Scooby Doo. Night at fall bra.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Are the rail what is it?
Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
Rail yard yard dogs?
Speaker 6 (01:05:44):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
They make the they make the cut the fault. Did
w W show them in the audience?
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
I don't think so. I don't think so. But yeah,
the rail yard dogs get it right, rail yard dogs.
It's two where words crazy? It's definitely two words.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
I went to the Facebook.
Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
Not rail yard dogs. It's rail yard dogs. What so
much to say? The dogs?
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
But the guy in the mass, he gets away barely
with his life, uh.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Barely.
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
And however, the ref now turns around to see staying
on the ground Invader standing up and awards Vader the
match and he's in one contender?
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
What's that Harley race? And who was the fight with
him in the in the aisle where the ref was
had his back.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
I can't remember now was it? I couldn't see it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
But like I was looking at Vader.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Why is the ref near the entrance trying to break
this up while he's supposed to ref a match that's
happening in the ring.
Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
Right, do your job, bro a football rough jumping into
the stands and stop breaking up a fight like that security.
He could do that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Let that go. You got a job to do.
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Unreal.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Speaking of Reughs, did you see that ref at the
during the Seahawks game.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
I did not watch the car.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
Oh man, there's a there's a good moment where Jackson
Smith and Jigber got called for a holding penalty. Uh,
that was questionable, but I don't think it was a
horrible call. But he thought it was. And he yells
this is bs right into the mic as the reference
like it's about to announce the call, and the reference
as he's announcing it, he yells it, and the ref
stops and just looks at Smith and Jacobit like man like,
(01:07:40):
like a like a parent that's about to tear fire
to him, like, wait till we get in this car. Oh,
wait till we get in this car. That's how he
looked at him. He couldn't he couldn't like really act
out because he was in public. But he looked like
once they got in that car, it was trouble for JS.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Would the NFL be allowed to object the player for
doing that?
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
I don't think it just didn't last night. He didn't
like yelling into the mic. He just yelled at no,
if you tried to, that'd be crazy. I don't know,
but he was just happened to be walking past, as
I said, I can't say he yelled it like he
didn't grab it like this is bs.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
Do that? Go birds?
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
Just grab grab the referee bar scruff and just yelling
into the mic, go birds. That'd be crazy. It could happen, though,
you never know. You might just give it an idea. Uh, somebody,
don't send me that fine check though, when that's on
your locker stool on Tuesday or Wednesday. Don't come call
(01:08:43):
on me. I ain't got it. Okay, I ain't got it.
You better call Uncle Jeffrey on that one. Ain't I
ain't got it. But yes, Vader wins triangle match and
it's the number one can in strange fashion with the overtime,
(01:09:04):
double overtime, sudden death, overtime and whatnot everything else that
happened with that match. Let's move on, though, to the
worst match of the night, Nick, what you got for me?
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
Right, Let's let's go that little what was it? Ten
second match?
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Thirty five seconds?
Speaker 3 (01:09:24):
Thirty five seconds? I did not keep track. Jim Duggan
versus Stunning Steve Wawson pretty easy one. Yeah, not even
a match, but not like like I believe Steve also
just won the US settle back the next month anyway,
But I know it was a way to you know,
pop the fans and stuff because Ricky Steve Mode had
to you know, he was getting surgery and whatnot. And
(01:09:45):
I think that his career was effectively over at this
point because he couldn't come back from that injury. But man,
really did Steve Austin dirty there? Like, Yeah, he was
one of the guys when I was watching WCW here
and there that I gravitated towards, like I paid attention
to him, whether like he was wrestling or whether it
was a promo, Like he got that out of me.
(01:10:07):
So like seeing him just kind of get toyed with
a little bit during this time, it kind of annoyed me,
even though I knew he was a bad guy. And
then they showed a lot of this type of footage
on their weekly TV wrestling shows too, so I didn't
have to watch the pay per view to see some
of the stuff happen. That's how I knew Dugan won
(01:10:28):
the US title. They showed this clip h on a
Saturday night, you know, probably the next week or two
weeks later. So I just didn't I didn't like it.
When Steve Boston was gonna like messed around with I
was just like, you know what, like I like him
for some reason, and I wasn't a heel guy, you know,
Like I wasn't with someone that cheer for the heels.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
But he saw it for everybody else did.
Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
I did, even before even before Jim.
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
Rarows, I mean yeah, even before Vince he keep me
made him the ring Master, good Lord.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
But yeah, he was just I was just like, man,
this is stupid, Like but that he wins the title
the next month, but it was stupid. It was a
bad just you know, and he tried to sell it,
you know, also tried to sell it and he was
kind of flopping around a little bit. I kind of
liked that because he made it fairly entertaining to me.
But I'm glad he didn't hurt himself on the ropes
when he was flopping into the ropes, because damn those
(01:11:23):
ropes are hard. Man. But yeah, it's like Jim Duggan too,
like he had just debuted in WCW. Not like I
don't think that was his debut. I think he had
a match before that on like a Saturday night and
then uh so he had already been, you know, on WWTV.
So I was like Jim Duggan, like he was never
a champion in WWF. So like, I again, I'm eight
(01:11:49):
years old, I'm like, anyone that wasn't a champion in
WWF and then goes to WCW and wins the title
made me think less of w CW.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
So, I mean that was just how it was fair
as a as a that's fair. Like, it's this basic
logic at the end of the day, he wasn't that
nice over there, and he comes here and he immediately
wins a title. What does that say about this spot
over And.
Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
Like I was like, oh, Steve Boston wants to be
a total loser and I like him. Ryan, this sucks.
Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
It's tough, man, It's tough. But uh just the recap.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Steamboat came out for what was supposed to be a
championship match between Steve Austin and Ricky Steamboat, but he,
like as Nick said, could not wrestle due to an injury.
Title came out and his khakis and his polo tucked
in right, just like the nineties classy man that he
probably smelled good too, had just loafers on this nice watch,
(01:12:42):
you know, class class man. But uh, he'd not only
relinquished the title, he handed it over to Steve Austin.
Steve Austin was the champion for all of a minute
and then Nick Bokwaker came out and was like, hey, congrats,
also defended right now. And Steve Boston was like, uh,
I know that's even fair, that's kind of wild. I
(01:13:05):
signed to fight this guy over here, but he can't go,
so I'm done. He's like, nope, stand the ring and
bring out Jim Duggan, and Jim Duggan pinned him in
thirty seconds thirty five seconds, and it just felt like
a waste of Steve Austin like, damn, that's it all right,
and that was it. But again he did win it
back eventually. I had an honorable mention here and that
(01:13:29):
was the Loser Leaves WCW match between Cactus Jack and
Kevin Sullivan. It had to short anti climac very short
for that for what was supposed to be what was
Cactus Jack's slash mcfoley's final match in W CW before
heading out on his own to do you know, other things,
(01:13:50):
including EA c W. This was how he went out,
with a couple of painful ass spots and an anti climactic.
Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
Boss dude, what is he doing?
Speaker 4 (01:14:03):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Those are my worst spots of the night too, at
least the one, the one where he took the bill
off of the top rope and went to the floor.
What he the unpadded floor on his way out? How
you want to be healthy for the next promotion. But
I don't know where. I don't know where he went
next specifically, I don't know if it was I know
(01:14:25):
he went to East a W, but I don't know
if he went to if he did like FMW like
the uh Japanese shows by this time, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
But either way, brother, don't you want to wrestle for
another promotion?
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Instead? He's taking the bills off the top rope like
it's nobody's business.
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
But it's it's wild, Like I remember just cringing watching that.
I was like, oh, he's still doing that on his
way out because I'd never seen his last match in
w CW, so watching that, I was like, oh, he's
still doing that stuff, And it was like, really, the
guy doing it to him kind of booked him to
get it to leave. Basically, you know, they they just weren't.
(01:15:06):
Him and Kevin Sulvan just weren't on the same page, and.
Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
You had to be by the pencil like Brian Pinson.
Brian Pillman said, the booker man.
Speaker 3 (01:15:13):
Got him and just and it was it was that
like off the rope and then he did a body
slam on there as well. Yeah, just like he took
at least two. I mean, it might have been more,
it might have been one more, but the two that
you know had the most damaging effect were those two.
Uh yeah, my wrest spots of the night too. And
you know, you see later in the night Bobby he
(01:15:37):
didn't was talking about tactics Shack and he said yeah,
he like, yeah, he walked right out of here. He's
out of w CW. And he's like, yeah, it's probably
holding the sign on the street saying will Russell for food.
And he started laughing. Tony Schavati laughs with him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
He did.
Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
That was right. He wasn't even defending him because he's like, yep,
Jack's out of here. So that's twice that he messed
with Mick.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
Man, what kind of heat does Tony Shavanni had?
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
That's wild. I didn't know that happens until obviously I'm
watching through the rest of the show. That might have
happened before the main event, but or the Hulk and
Rick promo. But they yeah, like, boy, I thought Shavanni
was gonna have like a quip like come back to
when he didn't said that. He's no, he laughed, He's like,
that's actually really funny because like, but he was totally
(01:16:26):
serious about it. So I'm like, oh, Tony Man, come on,
that's wild.
Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
But yeah, in reality, Mick Foley just didn't see a
bright future for him in WSW with Eric Bischoff's new
regime and opted not to sign a new contract once
it expired.
Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
And he turned out.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Okay, but he did all right, But he was to me,
it represented another like pretty much homegrown talent that Debis
w could have built around for the future, right, you know,
while like Holgan, it's still your centerpiece for today, current
day and no those you know, I'm not gonna knock
Debis whatsoever for signing Hogan. He was the biggest star
(01:17:02):
in wrestling. Ain't even savage to a certain extent, but
it just seemed like they lost a couple guys in,
not only Cactus Jack, but I think Steve Austin, who
they could have built around to go along and be
the flag bearers for the next five years beyond Hogan's time.
And they eventually found some guys like Goldberg and DDP
and Booker T and you know a few others, but
(01:17:24):
they definitely missed on Cactus Jack and Steve Austin for sure.
Speaker 6 (01:17:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
In my opinion, they whiffed on those two guys top
non wrestling happening. For me, it wasn't a lot on
this show that I would.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Say it was a top little tough.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
It was a little tough, But I did find it
funny that Bunk house Buck cut that promo in the
in the in the bathroom, and he sounded I couldn't
understand a word he was saying. I barely understood what
Colonel Parker was saying.
Speaker 3 (01:18:00):
Hair man.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
So much like where would you even call that?
Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
Did?
Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
Like the hair slip down in the middle of.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
The forehead like that? What a wild look he went
out in public looking like that. I mean he made money,
he did, but what was that when people walking around
with that back in the nineties or at any point
in human history, what, what decade, what century was people
(01:18:31):
wearing that? Somebody tell me I need to know, because
I ain't never ever seen that before.
Speaker 3 (01:18:39):
A rail yard dog.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
Look, maybe it's a rail yard dog fan bunk house
buck out there in Rowe shout out to the r
y ds out there row where one of the two
teams had an official hockey team of the straight shooters
(01:19:05):
one of two and counting and counting.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:11):
I did find it funny that when Brutus beut Cake
or brother Brutus whatever he was known ass uh at
this time, when he walked out with Hogan, while Hogan
had like the bum leg, he had not one but
two fanny packs. So I thought that was kind of funny.
(01:19:32):
And lastly, Paul Orndorf dancing doing his like wiggle before
he did his elbow job. I just thought that was funny.
Speaker 3 (01:19:38):
That was the worst not wrestling happening. No top top
I did, Okay, I had that as my top too,
all right, cool wiggle man like dude. The crowd was
going nuts for it, and I was I started laughing.
I was watching this with my dad and I he like,
we just supposed to started laughing because we're like it
was so random. He's like and then he that's like
(01:20:02):
a face thing to do, man, And I was cracking up.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
For one. It looked like something Paul Orndorff would have
done after a couple of years, Like he he had
Margarita though, having a good time and he did a
little wiggle after his fourth mark or something. Bro, that's
something I would do after my fourth mark. Maybe I
just put it on me. I wouldn't put that on
rest in peace to Paul Orndorff. Maybe that's just what
I would do. I had a couple of months even.
Speaker 3 (01:20:26):
Yeah, he told me like buff Bagwell the Patriot and
Paul Roman and Paul Dwarff in that match, if something
was gonna do it, I would have like, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:20:38):
Bark Well, for sure it was.
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
I'm like hilarious, and I literally like right away I
put that down as my top non wrestling happening. I
didn't know if it would be usurped and it wasn't
so amazing, but by my worst non wrestling happening either
way or no. Added to my top non wrestling happening
(01:21:03):
is when Nick Bockwinkle made the announcement that the Flair
Hogan match would be inside a steel cage.
Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
You know, I had that as like a random thought.
But Nick Bockwinkle was so good he was given these
announcements he was I almost forgot he was a wrestler.
Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Me too, I don't even know he was when I
was watching at this time. I was like, Nick, that.
Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
You wouldn't have had no idea because he didn't give
off the the wrestler vibe whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
He was a true pro, a true administrator.
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
Right, and he laid it all out plain a day.
But yes, go ahead with the Top nine wrestling happening.
I'm sorry because this it does get hilarious.
Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
I know this girl on the Phillies game, I gotta
I gotta clip that for Yeah. My top was when
Nick Bockwinkel made the announcement that it would be in
a steel cage. G goes, what are you smoking? Are
you smoking? And I was like, Geene, man, what is.
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Wrong with you? I can't believe you do something like this.
Speaker 3 (01:22:07):
You can't do this, he says, like it's gonna explode.
What are you doing? It's like, I want to see
that match as much as anyone, but not a seal
cage and.
Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
They put these matches every year, Jean, nobody gets hurt.
It's all right, buddy, what are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (01:22:25):
You're about to see a double one? Like, what are
we doing here?
Speaker 6 (01:22:28):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
You're about to see war games. You're like, oh, dear god,
no steal cage or Flair and Hogan what He's literally said,
what are you smoking? Nick Barkwork should have said crack.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Like what are you thinking?
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
Like?
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
What are you smoking?
Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
Was crazy?
Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
Hilarious, come back crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
That might be the top that wrestling. I forgot about that, man.
I had it in my notes, but I should have
moved it to the top of my list because that's
that was hilarious. But come together too. He was like, Yep,
it's gonna happen in a still cage on this day.
As by a virtue of Rick Flair saying on a
national television doesn't even need to sign a contract.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
Yeah, exactly that. I noted that too, Like he basically
was like, yeah, but he set at all TV, National TV,
so it's it's a done deal.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
That's as good as the signature.
Speaker 2 (01:23:20):
Every time we asked my signature is can't play that video.
Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
That's a signature.
Speaker 1 (01:23:25):
We played in court. Get the big TV out with
the TV stand so we can play Ric Flair signing
his contract surrounded by beautiful women. That's how he did it.
See Yanna legally binded what I tell you? I told you.
He said it in front of everybody. Yeah, that was
(01:23:48):
a good time. Good time. Any hidden gems. I think
we've talked about this already a little bit. Let's talk
about it some more. W W World Television Championship, johnn
to Be Bad versus Lord Stephen Regal.
Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
Both about hitting Jim.
Speaker 1 (01:24:02):
For n ring just Bell to Bell n ring, normal
match action, the best match in the show, Just Matt wrestling.
They worked at a fun pace, but it didn't feel
like they were doing too much like it was. It
was eleven minutes, which isn't like a short match, but
they did so much. Didn't feel like eleven minutes. It
(01:24:24):
was felt like it was all time perfectly and the
fans were into it. They both were just on top
of the game, trying to be bad Man or Mark
merrill Man?
Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
Was he good or what? Bro?
Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
He is one of the guys that I loved watching
a WCW like I was underwhelmed when he went TOF
because he didn't have that bad presentation the wild Man.
He was one of my favorites in WW at this
time that I just loved watching, And yes, I do
have Little Richard, so I'm like, oh my god, that
guy looks like little Richard, you know, like like is
(01:24:57):
he supposed to be him? Or is this little Richard
like reincarnated? Like what's going on here?
Speaker 1 (01:25:03):
But Richard more light now?
Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
But like he was good in the ring too, so
I really enjoyed. This was his first singles title apparently,
which is kind of wild because I started watching WW
in ninety three, uh, you know periodically obviously, so I
knew Johnny b Bad was there, but I just sworn
he was like a champion before that. So it's kind
of kind of wild that that was his first title.
(01:25:25):
And William Regal, I say William, but he was Lord
Stephen Regel. Yes, it was just like, you know, a
perfect guy to hate at this time too, just like
his mannerisms and his facial expressions. I hated that dude,
I really did. So this is like a perfect matchup
between you know, my the era of which I watched
w CW, not intently. But those are two characters that
(01:25:49):
I always had like a certain feeling about.
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
Uh Regal came out speaking of Regal and the uh
the white wigs that the British judges still wear, Like
what for one, I'm off for I'm off for keeping
like Tom on the traditions.
Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
I get it, you know, but I feel like this
is one we can let go.
Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
Well, that's also worse than the hard hat that he
had in w WF.
Speaker 1 (01:26:12):
So no, the hard hat was a dark time in
his life.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
I'll I'll take that over.
Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
He's a man. Oh but at the end of the day, Uh,
Johnny be bad one with the backslide to become the
new World TV champ was.
Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
Wild that uh you know, you could tell, especially in
the replay, how hard Regal was trying to keep his
weight shifted so his legs in like fall back and
touch the ropes, like just a little thing that I noticed,
because uh, like, these two guys are phenomenal pro wrestling yea.
So it's like one of those little things where you
(01:26:54):
could just tell that his momentum was going back so
his feet could have clipped the ropes at some point
and make the finish look really really wonky, especially if
the referee wasn't paying attention to that stuff. But he
like just shifted his weight to stay on Johnny b
Bad so his feet wouldn't fly behind him behind his head.
So I thought that was really cool, like a you know,
(01:27:15):
like inside wrestling type of saying. So if you like,
if you miss that, go back and watch it. You
could definitely tell the Regal is trying his best to
keep his weight shifted.
Speaker 1 (01:27:27):
Yeah, this is a great match though. This is a
lot of fun to watch. Fans went into it. Johnny
be Bad super over and like you said, Lord Stephen
Regal just an easy guy to hate, wig and awe
just an easy guy to hate. So yeah, to me,
this is a match that when we say hitting gyms,
this is kind of match we're talking about, Like right here,
it's Johnny be Bad versus Lord Stephen Riego, a match
(01:27:49):
you wouldn't immediately think about it. Oh, let me go
watch an whole match real quick. This is one of
those matches. It's a little bit of a deeper cut,
but you'll enjoy your time in only eleven minute. How
about that in and out best spot? Uh Orndorff not
only did the big wiggle. But he also dumped a
cooler of ice on Marcus Alexander backwell, which I don't
know why. I thought that was hilarious. Just gave him
(01:28:12):
a gatorade bath.
Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
For no reason.
Speaker 3 (01:28:14):
You're waking them up, like the hell?
Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
So that was my best spot? What about you?
Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
What the ice?
Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
That was I had nothing else on.
Speaker 3 (01:28:27):
My spot of the night was the Paul thing.
Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
Oh, the big wiggle, that's right. Yeah, yeah, that was hilarious.
I will say that as well. Uh, worst spot, we
already talked about it. Captain Jack taking the flip off
of the top rope to the unpadded floor.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
Geez, I need to tell right away upon impact, he's like,
and then he just rolls over it because they're not selling,
you know, like they're legitimately hurt. And the Kevin Salvan
just goes right down and starts beating them up, and
it's like, no, like give him a give him a
few seconds, dude, like relax. But they didn't do that
back then.
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
M M no, man, you didn't feel nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
He just kept going, nothing happened.
Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
It's not me. So that's what Kevin was thinking. A
list it's not me. Random thoughts during that bed Uh
Regal match. Notice you know Regal was trying to pen
attempt on bed and Sir William was holding that staff
(01:29:32):
or whatever, that Caine or whatever, and Regal held on
to it. Nick Patrick kicks his hands off. We always
talk about these types of spots where the referee gets
physically involved. It's like, could you imagine if like the
NFL ref saw some player holding somebody and like chop
their hands away instead of throwing the flag.
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
Like.
Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
Right, like like why is that okay in wrestling? You know,
it just makes me laugh when we see spots like that.
I just it's so unbelievable that a wrestler would be
okay for a referee getting physically involved like that. But
you know, just like imagine an NFL ref like chopping
a guy's hands away who's holding somebody.
Speaker 1 (01:30:13):
Else, Like when Tommy Young would shove Ric Flair, Yeah,
shove him down, Rick Flair, shove him you shove him back.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
Rick Fleer takes a bump.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Oh my god, points to his shirt like on the
referee here follow my law? Yeah, that's goofy. Also during
that match, Bobby Heenon says, almost everyone here has shoes on. Amazing, crazy,
(01:30:45):
crazy boy. That's wild.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
He didn't even go to WW right away when he
left w F ninety three, so he he hadn't been
for w CW that long, but he was like still
prime Bobby Heaton.
Speaker 1 (01:31:00):
It definitely was good. Lord cooked the entire city of Roanoke,
Virginia shoes. That's great, amazing, Oh my goodness. Uh and
my last note, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:31:18):
So we didn't get to uh the worn wrestling happening,
did we?
Speaker 1 (01:31:24):
We didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
Oh man, did I skip it?
Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
Oh man?
Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
Yeah, it right by it.
Speaker 3 (01:31:29):
Hold on, yeah, listen, I know we don't want to
have to mention it, but no, for one.
Speaker 1 (01:31:34):
Let me get to this last random note, and is
that we got to look at Blacktop Bully Blacktop Bully
aka Darius bar Darzol yelling at security during the opening
match because he was supposed to be a fan. He
just like just loved wrestling. Also he is a trained
wrestler at the same time, but whatever, he didn't stay
too long. He got fired at the at the bleeding.
Uh he got fired for bleeding. But yes, I skipped
(01:31:56):
right by it. Oh my goodness, gracious, the worst non
wrestling happened. I just this my mind just blocked it
out for some reason. Actually talked about Paul's Big Wiggle,
which was Norman somebody like, huh, that might be something there.
I might have something. There might be something I could
do it better than Paul one door. But yes, the
(01:32:17):
worst non wrestling happening easily the obviously not live promo
with HAWG Cogan and Rick Flair and me and Gene Oakland.
Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
Do you have audio of this? I, unfortunately don't because
it was too long.
Speaker 2 (01:32:32):
It was long.
Speaker 3 (01:32:34):
I actually started recording it and then I was like,
just this is too long to play and boring, crunching
time crunching. So I was like, yeah, it was boring.
We can laugh at certain points, and I don't know
if I want to make like different clips of that,
but I think just talking about it.
Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
Well, well, let's let's set the stage a little bit here.
Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:32:55):
Rick Flair is walking around with Hall Cogan's w'sw title.
Uh he wanted after supposedly making hal Hogan submit to
the figure four. He's walking around with it.
Speaker 3 (01:33:06):
By the way, Hawk conmits, right.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
Look, I was gonna get to that, bro, so don't
get to that. So Rick Flair is like, I'm the
real World Champion because he tapped out, I'm the champ
and I'm retiring.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
So mean Jeane is interviewing haw Hogan quote unquote live
via satellite. Hogan is on the screen in a gym
with his leg bandits because the guy in the mask
aka Arn Anderson hit him in the leg with the
night stick thing he had or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
So HAULK Hogan is nursing.
Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
A leg injury. It was like a tyro or a
weapon supposed to be pick the Nancy Kerrigan attack. Good Lord,
good Lord, which, by the way, I went down a
rabbit hole last night when I was watching, So yeah,
I know too much about the Nancy Kerrigan Tanya Harding thing.
Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
Terrible, terrible, terrible thing that happened to Nancy Kerrigan. But
uh so Hogan's.
Speaker 3 (01:34:08):
No, I don't think she wants she skated after that.
Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
She did, but man still, uh Tanya Harding not okay
after that?
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
Uh no.
Speaker 1 (01:34:19):
But Hogan is in the gym and he's talking to
Mean Gene and again a promo that is clearly not live,
like Jeane's trying to get a word in. Hogan's talking
right over him because he's not Hogan's not talking to me, Jen,
Hogan's just talking to the camera, but we have to
pretend that they're talking to each other. Then somehow Holgan
(01:34:39):
gets a phone. I think did did Jimmy.
Speaker 3 (01:34:42):
Hard give him one?
Speaker 1 (01:34:44):
Just hands him the phones. You know what, I'm gonna
call up Ric Flair right now. I'm gonna hit him,
get him on the horn, calls him up. He calls
him while Rick Flair sitting in that casino in Las
Vegas or something, I don't know it tracked and the
lady answers the phone. Right he calls Flaire and the
(01:35:04):
lady answers the phone and says that Flair is busy, busy,
not worried about you, and Hogan's talking all this trash. Oh,
I'm sure you're keeping him busy.
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
He's broken up and.
Speaker 1 (01:35:14):
Sweat and Flare's like, bro, like I'm retired, I'm not
even worried about you like that for real, for real,
Like you're not even like that.
Speaker 3 (01:35:25):
Living in hogan', said renfree Rich.
Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
Free Hogan is sleeping at the gym. Apparently he's working
so hard. I'm getting my leg back in shape.
Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
Brother.
Speaker 1 (01:35:36):
Meanwhile, Flair's out here at the casino wherever he was
sharp rest attack. All the ladies around him wearing evening gowns, right,
and Hogan's trying to talk trash to him, and Flare's like, Bro,
I can't even hear you speak up.
Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Bro.
Speaker 1 (01:35:51):
I'm out here living life, living my best life. I
got the holes around me. What's up? Bro?
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
What you talking about for real?
Speaker 1 (01:36:00):
Right? Hogan is like, oh, what you want to hear?
And It's like, what do you mean? What you want
to hear? What you called him? You called this guy
when he was out here having a good time. He's
being unbothered and you call him up? What you want
to hear?
Speaker 3 (01:36:18):
Brother?
Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
It's like, I want to hear you shutting up. That's
what I want to hear. Ladies around me, I got
even in gowns, all trying to have a good night,
Like what do you want?
Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
Like wait, what you're the You're the one that called him.
Speaker 1 (01:36:31):
Right, And Hogan, like you said, eventually says, well, maybe
I did give up.
Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
That was the best part of it, because I did
like a double take. I was like, wait a second,
like what that is not something called cooking? Says first of.
Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
All, maybe in a in a moment, the referee saw
me give him.
Speaker 3 (01:36:51):
In my head, you heard me say, I give up.
Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
But so you lost in brother, get of the back
of the line. You're behind Guardian Angel.
Speaker 6 (01:37:03):
Now pro man, earn your spot, my spot, not my
dog spot, the number one contender spot.
Speaker 3 (01:37:17):
This really made Rick Flair look good. Unfortunately, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Bro, And I think that's a problem with wrestling throughout times,
various times where the baby faces can just look stupid.
I think WW has a problem with that. Now the
baby faces can look like just like Dweeb sometimes sometimes
and Hawk Hogan looked like the biggest dweb and Rick
Flynn looked like the man. All right, how is this
supposed to make Hogan look cool? Flairs surrounded by beautiful women,
(01:37:47):
the big gold belt shoppers attack, having a good time,
winding and dining, winding, gallivanting out here with the world title.
Speaker 3 (01:37:58):
Hawks like, that's what's difference between me and you. I'm
here in the gym and you're partying.
Speaker 1 (01:38:03):
Yep, and I'm still and that still beats you.
Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
It makes me go, oh, I like Rick, then right.
Speaker 1 (01:38:09):
I still made you give up? And Hogan's sitting in
the gym with Jimmy Hart in a bum leg.
Speaker 3 (01:38:17):
What a great life, right.
Speaker 1 (01:38:21):
What Flair? I noticed that Hogan's got a cordless phone
and Flair's got the chord phone in the in the
in the in the restaurant, whatever he's in, but holding
at the cordless phone in the gym like that's a
life of luxury back in ninety four. And then eventually
they get to the point, which was Hogan proposing that
(01:38:44):
if Flair beat him with the figure four the next
time they feeds each other.
Speaker 3 (01:38:48):
By the way, by the way, before this, he keeps saying, oh,
like I got him, like, brother, I know exactly what
to say, Like how I'm gonna get Rick to like
accept to challenge yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:39:00):
He was.
Speaker 3 (01:39:01):
He literally teased that about five times before he finally
got to it. He said it to Gene Okerland before
this call happened, and then he kept telling Rick like
on the phone, I know exactly what you need, like
before he finally got to it, like it literally took
five minutes for him to get to this point.
Speaker 1 (01:39:19):
It was that was a damn point. Yeah, And the
point was Hogan saying, hey, let's have another match, and
if he beat me with the figure four, I'll retire,
And the outcome has decided because you know, he's not retiring,
but Flair is suddenly intwest. He's like, oh, okay, let's
(01:39:40):
do it then, and then Hogan's like, yeah, yeah, I
got him now, ha.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
You wait, Jimmy Hart.
Speaker 1 (01:39:48):
It was just weird. It's cheesy and creepy all at
the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
It was it was strange, well because he lured him
in because Rick thinks, to me, is still in bad shape.
But it's oh oh oh hawked at the old trick row.
Speaker 1 (01:40:03):
Oh boy, it was terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:40:08):
I didn't like it.
Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
And it's crazy to say that about our promo involving
Rick Flair and Hawk Hogan.
Speaker 3 (01:40:14):
It is, and it's funny. He started doing like his
calisthenics right, and Gene Okleman looks back at the camera
and gives like a oh, look at this, like he's squatting.
Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
He did a Hindu squad look at that.
Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
Nah.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
This was bad, bro.
Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
It's crazy again to say that about Flair and Hogan.
But what a waste of time. This was spent all
that time just yelling at each other. I guess Hogan
yelling at him and Rick being unbothered just to get
to like the retirement match. It wasn't exciting, It was long,
It was boring, terrible, worst part of the show. Any
(01:40:50):
other random notes, random thoughts from you before we wrap
it up here.
Speaker 3 (01:40:56):
That was so funny. That was the you know moments
when Nick bock Lingle made the announcement of the steel
cage and goes, what are you smoking?
Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
What are you smoking?
Speaker 3 (01:41:05):
Literally trying to like get Nick Bockleingkele to change his
mind of it, like how how much he'll heat what
a Gene had? If Dick was like, oh, you know what,
you're right, no steel cage? Like goodness, everyone hates Gen
Oakling now.
Speaker 1 (01:41:18):
I think Nick me and Gene wasn't a booker because like,
what are you talking about, bro, It's a steel cage,
sting Rick Flinn hal Coogan. Of course we're gonna do that.
Match what you worried about? Shut up, count the money? Okay,
what are you talking about? But yeah, that was a
fun part of the show as well. Where are you smoking?
Is insane to say to the boss, either, I got
(01:41:41):
to have a.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
Talk with you in that back here.
Speaker 1 (01:41:44):
You got to hear a piece of my mind here,
Nick boch Winkle, he.
Speaker 3 (01:41:47):
Was still hawking the hotline too.
Speaker 1 (01:41:50):
I'll tell you what I said to him on the hotline.
Call it now all right?
Speaker 2 (01:41:59):
Anything else about up Fall Bra nineteen ninety episode.
Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
Two, sleek logo I like to set up like WCW
was well produced at this time. Despite the wrestling on
storylines not being particularly great, it was always a clean
show and obviously a turner was part of that though
production scene for a little bit, it seemed to be
better than WWFS. Honestly, it just even though it wasn't
(01:42:26):
as extravagant, the picture always looked a little bit cleaner
to me when I when I was watching during this era.
So I just liked the look and feel of a
WCW show, even if it wasn't you know, some big,
high maintenance type entrance the way we got for like
later Halloween havocs or Spring stampede batch at the Beach
that was. This was still like just kind of felt
(01:42:47):
like a big show and it looked cool. And I
always I'm a sucker for that WCW Fall Brawl logo.
Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
I just it is. It is a great logo.
Speaker 3 (01:42:56):
Unique.
Speaker 1 (01:42:57):
I have the WCW logo in the f that's a
good look. I don't mind the kind of the letters
kind of going on the incline a little bit, then
in the middle. It's kind of fun.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
I also like the poster for this show with like
a cage length fence went to taped up hands kind
of climbing on it for War Games. I think that
was a cool little illustration to use for fall bra
I don't see fun posters like that anymore, so it's
nice to see a little fun posted like that for
Fall Broad nineteen ninety four. But let's wrap it up
(01:43:26):
for a deep dive with some plugs. So Nick, take
us out with some plugs please.
Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
