KEP Pound. Today we're talking about Mike the Tiger. Mike
the Tiger has been the official live mascot of Louisiana
State University since nineteen thirty six. The tradition began when
LSU students raised seven hundred and fifty dollars to purchase
a real tiger from the Little Rock Zoo, named after

athletic trainer Mike Chambers. The original Mike, the first arrived
on campus in a cage and was greeted with a parade.
Since then, each Mike has lived in a habitat on
campus near Tiger Stadium. Over the years, the role of
Mike has grown from simple school spirit to a beloved icon,
embodying LSU pride and intimidating opponents with his fierce roar
