(00:05):
The Book of Proverbs is one ofmy favorite books in the Bible. Proverbs
is a book of wise sayings, riddles, insights, delights that come from
the life of Solomon, the wisestman to ever live. He had it
all, he experienced it all,He had the richest wealth, women,
(00:30):
He had experienced the good, thebad, and the ugly. Now he
lives to tell us his story. He offers advice. He offers different moral
behavior as as well as family matters, and he also challenges us to make
(00:56):
wise decisions versus foolish ones. Heknows that if you choose a wise decision,
you're going to read the benefits ofthe blessing that come with it.
But if you choose the foolish wayof things, destruction room and death is
(01:17):
not far behind. Solomon often saysthat the fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom. The minute thatwe decide to throw away foolishness, wisdom
joins us on our journey. Theminute that we decide to confess our faults
(01:41):
before God is the minute that weinvite fear of God into our hearts,
and that is when wisdom starts.I pray that this selection of the lights
will be a blessing to you.Thank you once for joining, and God
bless the proverbs of Solomon's son ofDavid, King of Israel, for gaining
(02:13):
wisdom and instruction, for understanding wordsof insight, for receiving instruction and prudent
behavior, doing what is right andjust and fair, for giving prudence to
those who are simple, knowledge anddiscretion to the young. Let the wise
(02:36):
listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance for understanding
proverbs and parables, the sayings andriddles of the wise. What is the
purpose. The purpose is to gainwisdom and instruction and to understand the words
(03:00):
of insight. Who is this bookwritten to. This book is written to
the wise to add to their learning. So, if you're already wise,
(03:21):
this book is an addition to yourknowledge or to those that are young.
Knowledge and discretion is added to thosewho are young, and giving prudence to
(03:46):
those who are simple, to thosewho are gullible, to those who have
no moral direction and are inclined toevil. So these proverbs were given to
anyone who wills. So if youfind yourself that you know it all,
(04:12):
and you find yourself that you don'tknow it all. This is a book
for everyone and love. Verse seven. The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of knowledge. But fools despisewisdom and instruction. So the start of
(04:35):
wisdom begins in the fear of theLord. Not the fear like trembling or
running away from the Lord, butthe fear as in respect and honor for
the king of kings. Once youhave respect for the king and honor,
(05:04):
wisdom joins you. But those whoare foolish, they don't like wisdom and
instruction. Wisdom, in other words, is instruction, and sometimes instructions are
(05:30):
not easy to receive. If youare wise, you will pick up those
instructions without a question. But ifyou foolish, just about like, just
like the Bible says. But ifyou foolish, you will despise wisdom and
instruction. Let us continue verse eight. Listen, my son, to your
(05:57):
father's instruction, and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They are a
garland to graze your neck and achain to adorn your neck. So imagine
you're wearing a necklace. Imagine youare wearing a garland on your head.
(06:23):
That is what instruction and the teachinglooks like. So when you wear this
necklace, it is always next toyou. You don't take it off.
And when you wear this, whenyou wear this garland upon your head,
(06:46):
it's always with you. It's rightnear you. Listening and not forsaking ore
the instructions. Listen myself to yourfather's instructions, and do not forsake your
mother's teaching. Verse ten, myson, If sinful men entice you,
(07:14):
do not give in to them.If they say, come along with us,
let's lie and wait for innocent blood. Let's ambush some harmless souls.
Let's swallow them alive, like thegrave and whole, like those who go
down to the pit. If peoplecome to you and they're senseless, they're
(07:35):
just like, hey, let's goshut up this and that, and let's
just go out and break rules orwhatever. Don't follow them. What are
you doing? Follow them? That'sfoolishness. It's only going to get you
into trouble. Follow men who aregoing to give you wise instruction, who
(07:59):
are going to you, who aregoing to guide you into the right direction.
Don't follow those that they are lookingfor trouble. Don't go behind them.
And yes, there are temptations. They are meant to tempt you because
(08:22):
they will present all these beautiful things. Hey, if you hang out with
us, listen, we got thisand that. We're gonna go to this
place and that place. You know, we're gonna hang out at this house
or that house, and they willbe enticing. But the end, the
result is not. Let us continueverse thirteen, we will get all sorts
(08:50):
of valuable things and fill our houseswith plunder, cast lots with us.
We will all share the loot. That's what they're saying. They're saying that
there are beautiful things, and let'sgo do this, let's go do that,
(09:11):
hang out with us, and casta lot with us, and you
know, we will all share andwhat it is that we are doing.
Their words sound good, but theiractions lead to destruction. Verse fifteen,
(09:33):
my son, do not go alongwith them, do not set foot on
their path. So don't go alongwith their plan, or don't be a
follower of the wicked. The wickedplan and plot and scheme. The wicked
(09:56):
also destroy. Don't go along withtheir plan, don't follow them, don't
be a follower of the wicked.Verse sixteen says, for their feet rush
(10:18):
into evil they are swift to shedblood. There's nothing good that comes out
of it. They're drawn to evil. How useless to spread a net where
every bird can see it. Thesemen lie in wait for their own blood.
(10:39):
They ambush only themselves. Such arethe path of all who go after
ill gotten gain. It takes awaythe life of those who get it.
When I read Proverbs, it isa very hard chapter to die. Proverbs
(11:01):
is a very very wise chapter book. So much wisdom within that book,
and we ought to pay attention sothat wisdom will guide us. We are
(11:28):
to pay attention so that wisdom willnot leave our side, because this is
what happens when you leave wisdom.Let's read about it. Verse twenty.
Out in the open, Wisdom callsoutloud. She raises her voice in the
public square, on top of thewall, She cries out at the city
(11:50):
gate. She makes her speech,How long will you who are simple love
your simple way? How long willyou mockers delight in mockery and fools hate
knowledge. Wisdom calls out loud,She raises her voice in public square.
(12:16):
You see men and women preaching. You see men and women on the public
square, or on the corners,or on the streets, preaching and calling
out for you to turn back. That's wisdom. Wisdom is crying out,
(12:43):
Wisdom is making her speech. Howlong will you go on? How long
will you delight in mockery? Howlong will you hate knowledge? Repent in
my rebuke, turn around in youractions. Then I will pour out my
thoughts to you. I will makeknown to you my teachings wisdom. The
(13:09):
rewards of wisdom are great. Butsince you refuse to listen when I call,
and no one pays attention when Istretch out my hand, since you
disregard all my advice, and youdo not accept my rebuke, Wisdom says,
I will laugh when disaster strikes you, and I will mock when calamity
(13:35):
overtakes you. Powerful, isn't it? So I will laugh at you.
So I will. I will mockwhen calamity strikes your way or overtakes you,
When calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps you over like
a whirlwind, When this stress andtrouble overwhelm you, then they will call
(14:01):
to me, but I will notanswer. They will look for me,
but will not find me, sincethey hated knowledge and did not choose to
fear the Lord. Since they wouldnot accept my advice and spurned my rebuke.
They will eat the fruit of theirways and be filled with the fruit
of their ignorance, of their schemesand the consequences. It says, no
(14:28):
matter how much they cry out tome, no matter how much they call
out to me, no matter howmuch they look for me, they will
not find me. Because you eitherchoose foolishness or you choose wisdom. There's
a path that leads onto righteousness, and there's a path that leads onto foolishness.
(14:52):
Which one are you going to choose? Can't do both, can't do
wisdom and foolishness. You gotta goeither in a way of wisdom or you're
gonna go in a way of foolishness. There's a choice that stands before you.
Which way will you turn? Forthe waywardness of the simple will kill
(15:15):
them, and the complacency of foolswill destroy them. But whoever listens to
me will live in safety and beat ease, without fear or harm.
How long how long you continue todo what you do, How long you
(15:37):
will continue to mock and sit andplot and scheme and follow these wicked men.
How long will you continue to doall this nonsense, as my dad
calls it, How long will youdo that? But whoever listens to me,
(15:58):
whoever repents of their ways, whoeverturns away from their from from their
evil ways, they will live insafety and be at ease, without fear
of harm. I hope this chapterhas been a blessing to you. It
surely has been to me. Everytime I read it. There it's new
treasures within. Every time I readit, something new comes out of it,
(16:23):
and every time you read it itwill also be. So Just continue
to dig those treasures, continue toseek those treasures. They are within the
Holy Book. God bless stay
