(00:00):
I absolutely love the Book of Proverbs. It is filled with so much insight,
so much wisdom, so much experiencefrom the wisest men to ever live
again. Proverbs is a book thatis set up of many different advices,

(00:23):
many different instructions, warnings, correctionand so forth. And so as we
just go into the book, itis filled with wisdom. It is failed.
And Solomon says that the beginning ofwisdom is to fear God. The
beginning of wisdom is to acknowledge thatGod is your creator, and that he

(00:48):
is in the center of your life, and he is the master of your
life. And I could say moreabout that, but first let us go
into Proverbs six, chapter six,and it is titled Warnings against Folly.
Folly, in other words, isfoolishness, warnings against being foolish. This

(01:15):
is Solomon writing to the audience,my son, and you can also you
can also put here, my daughter, if you have put up security for
your neighbor, if you have shakenhands and pledge for a stranger, you

(01:37):
have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth.
So do this, my son,to free yourself, since you have
fallen into the neighbor's hands. Goto the point of exhaustion and give your
neighbor no rest. Allow no sleepto your eyes, no slumber to your
eyelids. Free yourself like a gazefrom the hand of the hunter, like

(02:01):
a bird from the snare of thefowler. So what is this? What
is Solomon trying to say? Here? Solomon talks about making promises to people
or doing some doing a good deedfor your neighbor. If you cannot deliver
it, Please do not promise thingsyou cannot keep. Instead, hold your

(02:24):
tongue. If you say you're goingto do something, go ahead and follow
up with your words. And thisreminds me. This reminds me of the
times that we promise, or thetimes that we say we're going to pray

(02:45):
for someone, or we're going tofollow up with some type of action.
Do not entangle yourself with promises youcannot keep. He said you will pray
for someone, then do everything inyour power to accomplish which you have said.

(03:08):
If you know you're not good atkeeping promises, why don't you do
it right there? And then whydon't you pray for that person right there?
And then if you said I'm gonnapray for you. Why don't you
just reach out and pray for themright there? And then do not say
thoughts and prayers and then be heldaccountable for your negligence. Gotta be careful,

(03:31):
since what Solomon is talking about here, we have to be careful what
we promise. We have to becareful about what we do. Go to
the end, you slugger, considerits ways and be wise. It has
no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer

(03:55):
and gathered it's food at harvest.Have you ever seen an ant get gathering
crumbs of bread or anything for thatmatter? Have you ever seen the determination
of this ant? Have you everseen how this little ant, this little

(04:16):
tiny creature, does not have aleader or overseer, yet it works diligently,
yet it is decharmined to carry theload. You can learn a lot
from the just watching the ant.You can learn a lot from its determination,

(04:46):
diligence, as well as hard workethics. Be an ant gatherer,
don't be a slugger. And thenSalmon also talks about the sluggard, which
is a lazy person, a lazyperson that sleeps. Then expects the harvest.

(05:12):
Have you ever met somebody that doesnothing to improve, does nothing,
does nothing, puts in no effort, but expect some kind of harvest.
If she did not plow, youdid not plant, Do not expect to
reap the harvest. Do not expectto reap the harvest. It says,

(05:43):
how long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up
from your sleep? At sleep,A little slumber, a little folding of
the hands to rest, and povertywill come on you like a thief,
and scarcity like an armed man. These are the consequences they're going to follow

(06:04):
you. A troublemaker and a villainwho goes about with a corrupt mouth,
who winks maliciously with his eye, signals with his feet, and motions with
his fingers, who plots evil withdeceit in his heart. He always stares

(06:29):
up conflict. Therefore disaster will overtakehim in an instant. He will suddenly
be destroyed without remedy. Solomon issharing wise insights with his audience. He's
talking about the troublemaker and the villain, the evil one. He talks about

(06:56):
his conduct, behavior and action. He talks about how he plots, evil
and de seit is in his heart. There's nothing good. There's nothing good
that you can say about a suchperson. And then Solomon introduces the six

(07:20):
things that the Lord hates, veryfamiliar to a lot of us, seven
that are detestable to him. Andhe goes on to say how the eyes
are lying tongue, hands that shedinnocent blood, a heart that devices wicked

(07:40):
schemes, feet that are quick torush into evil, a false witness who
pours out lies, and a personwho stares up conflict in the community.
So these are the six things thatthe Lord hates, and seven are detestable
to him. Haughty eyes, evileyes, looking for trouble, type of

(08:03):
ice, always racing to do evil, prideful, arrogant. Number two,
a lin tongue, no matter whatyou ask of them, their line line
line three. Hands that shed innocentblood, murder, hands that shed innocent

(08:31):
blood, the participants of murder.A heart that devices evil schemes. This
is talking about a planner, acon artist, a scammer, feet that
are quick to rush into evil. How about some conversations we entertain some of

(08:56):
some of these conversations that has nothing, they have nothing to do with us.
Our feet are quick to rush intoevil. False witness who pours out
lies. This is talking about agossiper, a liar, a gossiper,

(09:20):
a liar who continues to pour outlies. And another a person who stares
up conflict in the community. Thisis a person who stares up trouble.
He devises the divides people. Healso stares up conflicts, and so forth.

(09:41):
So these are the six things thatthe Lord hates, and seven there
are detestable to him. Let uskeep that in mind as we continue on
our journey. The next section thatSolomon is also covering is called Warning against

(10:01):
adultery. Now, in Proverbs chapterfive, he was talking about that wayward
woman, that forbidden woman, thatwoman that stirs up trouble. My son,
keep your father's command and do notforsake your mother's teaching. Bind them

(10:26):
always on your heart, Fasten themaround your neck when you walk. They
will guide you. When you sleep, they will watch over you. When
you awake, they will speak toyou. For this command is a lamp.
This teaching is a light, andcorrection and instruction are the way to
life. Keeping you from your neighbor'swife from the smooth talk of a wayward

(10:52):
woman. Remember the woman that Solomonmentioned in a Proverbs chapter five. I
believe the wayward woman, the onethat speaks well, the one whose speech
is smoother than oil. That waywardwoman. At first she sounds nice and

(11:16):
sweet, but as you get toknow her, you find out that she's
full of bitterness, full of evil, divisive, and quick to stir up
trouble. So Solomon warns us.Solomon warns us against this wayward woman domns

(11:46):
with another man's wife. Don't eventhink about it. This is also talking
about it to talking about a manwho is also dividing families, a man
who goes out looking for another woman. Do not lust in your heart after
her beauty, or let her captivateyou with her eyes, so he says,

(12:11):
she's quick to pull you in.Be careful. Her eyes are real
pretty. She is enticing. Andthis is also speaking of sin. Sin
is very enticing, and it isvery indulging, and it looks good at
first. But don't let it foolyou, because the wages of sin is

(12:35):
death. For a prostuct can behad for a loaf of bread, but
another's man's wife prays on your verylife. Can a man scoop fire into
his lap without his clothes being burned. Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scourged? Thereare sequences to the fire. Don't play

(13:01):
with the fire. Don't play withthe fire. Don't play with another man's
wife. God is watching you, too, so be careful. So is
he who sleeps with another man's wife. No one who touches her will go
unpunished. Be careful. People donot despise a thief if he steals to

(13:22):
satisfy his hunger when he is starving. This is another section talking about a
thief. Yet, if he iscaught, he must pay back sevenfold,
though it cost him all the wealthof his house. Is a very good
principle right here. If a thiefis caught, he must must pay sevenfold,

(13:45):
even if it cost him the wealthof his house. Thief who has
come to kill, steal, anddestroy, we must catch him in his
action and put him behind bar.But a man who commits adultery has no
sense. Whoever does so, destroyshimself. Blows and disgrace are his lot,

(14:11):
and his name will never be wipedaway. These are consequences for an
adulter. For jealousy arouses a husband'sfury, and he will show no mercy
when he takes revenge. He willnot accept any compensation. He will refuse

(14:31):
a bride, however great it is. Solomon is warning us. He's saying,
do not engage with another man's wife. Do not again engage with another
man's husband. Stay away altogether, and play with fire. He's saying.

(14:54):
They are smooth as oil. Haveyou heard them? Them boys talk so
smooth. Just you just want tolisten to every word that they're saying.
They're trouble, They're trouble. Howabout that woman that speaks so smoothly and
she's kind at first? Oh,yes, she's kind at first, and

(15:18):
she's loving, she cares for youand all of that. Wo But once
you once you go near her house. Proverb says, once you go near
her house, you will lose dignityand honor. You will lose everything that

(15:39):
you have. Be careful, becareful. And so I hope these were
a blessing to you. It surelyhas been to me every time that I
read these scriptures. There is somuch to discover, so much to uncover,
And I pray that this was ablessing to you, Thank you once
again for joining my table. Godbless you and take care.
