Speaker 1 (00:00):
So hello there, and thanks for joining. As we continue
our study and the Book of Proverbs chapter nine, I
will be reading from New International Version Bible, and you
welcome to follong with me with a Bible version of
your choice. I will also be sharing insights they're found
alongside with scripture and pray. They are a blessing to you.
Thank you once again for joining me. You could have
(00:21):
been anywhere, but you chose to be here, so I
appreciate your effort to be here. Before I step into
the study, I wanted to share some of the important
definitions before I get into the actual studies. So the
words that I wanted to take a closer look at
our wisdom and folly. And so I went ahead and
(00:45):
researched these two words a little deeper, and I found
out that wisdom is the quality or state of intelligence,
the capacity for learning, reasoning, or understanding. So let's keep
this in mind. Whenever wisdom is spoken, this is the
quality or state of intelligence. And when Solomon is speaking
(01:05):
about this wisdom, he's not talking about the wisdom of
this world, which is education, knowledge, and experience, but rather
it is wisdom of heaven, wisdom that is not available
in this world that can only be gained from God
through the fear and respect and reverence of the Lord.
(01:26):
The other definition that I wanted to take a closer
look are is folly is the quality or state of
being foolish lack of understanding or sense. So there are
two choices that are presented in this chapter, wisdom versus folly.
When you are on the street of wisdom, foolishness has
(01:46):
no place in your life, and vice versa. So if
you are on a street of foolishness and you're looking
for wisdom, wisdom will be nowhere to be found. So
let's read about wisdom and folly as well as their
invitation and learn. Wisdom has built her house, She has
(02:08):
set up its seven pillars. She has prepared her meat
and mixed her wine. She has also set her table.
She has sent out her servants, and she calls from
the highest point of the city. Let all who are
simple come to my house. To those who have no sense,
she says, come eat my food and drink the wine
(02:28):
I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will
live walk in a way of inside. Now I'm gonna
pause here one second before we go into the next
section because proverbs oftentimes is broken down into sections, so
the entire chapter is not going to focus on one thing,
It's going to be broken down into different sections. So
(02:52):
this first section is talking about wisdom and how she
is ready to feed you Withsdom has set up a
table of delight before you. Wisdom has set up it's
seven pillars, and she is ready to dine you, and
she's ready to just, I guess, grace you with her wisdom.
(03:22):
And so she's sending this invitation to the people around her,
and so she's saying, come, who are simple, Come who
have no sense, Come and eat my food and drink
that I have prepared. She says, leave your simple ways
and you will live walk in a way of inside.
(03:45):
So wisdom is always available, Wisdom is always calling, Wisdom
is out there searching. But are we going to respond
to wisdom? Are we going to reject her wise counsel?
Or are we going to keep on waking? Next section,
verse seven says whoever corrects a mocker invites insults. Whoever
(04:06):
rebukes the wicked in curs abuse. So there are consequences,
and I call this backlash of the enemy. The minute
that we try to correct or rebuke a mocker. A
lot of times when we correct or rebuke a mocker,
they are going to come to us with fire. So
we have to be correct very wise. And how we
(04:28):
go about it, we have to walk with wise, in
a way of the wise, and with insight. As we
are approaching these type of situations, do not rebuke mockers
or they will hate you. Rebuke the wise and they
will love you. Instruct the wise and they will and
they will be wiser. Still, teach the righteous, and they
(04:51):
will add to their learning. So remember, no matter where
you are in life, do not reject wisdom. Wisdom is
always there to guide you, or wisdom is always there
to instruct you. Wisdom is there to teach you. And
if you reject her counsel, if you reject her direction,
or you reject her insight, she will leave you. She
(05:12):
will walk the other way. And so let us continue
to seek for wisdom no matter where we are in life.
Verse ten is the next section that Solomon is presenting
before us. The fear of the Lord is the beginning
of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
So if you want wisdom, the fear of the Lord
(05:33):
is the beginning of wisdom. You are to reverence, respect
honor the creator who made you. So. If you are honoring, respecting,
and giving your most adoration to the King of Kings,
you are wise. You are inviting you wisdom to live
in your heart, for through wisdom your days will be many.
(05:55):
These are benefits of wisdom. Your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life because wisdom
will guide you in the way that you should go.
The step of righteous men are ordered by the Lord,
and so right here wisdom is saying, if you are wise,
your wisdom will reward you, and if you are a mocker,
(06:16):
you alone will suffer. So check yourself today. Are you
a mocker? Do you left? Do you look down upon others?
If you are walking in this way, change your ways.
Go back to wisdom and allow wisdom to teach you.
Next section, verse thirteen Folly. This is talking about folly.
(06:39):
Remember folly. Folly is a way of foolishness. Folly is
an unruly woman. She is simple and knows nothing. She
sits at the door of her house on a seat
at the highest point of the city. She is ruled
by pride. In other words, she is an unruly woman.
She does not listen. She is this obedi and she
(07:00):
is rebellious, and I can totally relate here. When I
was a young teenager, I can totally relate here. I
was a rebellious teenager. I was a child that was disobedient.
But I have repented and turn around in my ways,
(07:20):
and the Lord has given me wisdom. So I am
definitely a testimony here. She sits at the door of
her house, on a seat at the highest point of
the city, calling out to those who pass by, go
straight un their way. Let all who are simple come
to my house. This is her, just as wisdom is
calling out foolishness, or folly is also calling out, let
(07:44):
all who are simple come to my house. To those
who have no sense, she says, stolen water is sweet.
So she offers these lies and deceptive conversations, or the lie,
these lies and deceptive thoughts to the people that are
coming around her. Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in
(08:06):
secret is delicious. How many times folly has whispered in
our ears, Oh, what you're doing is not a big deal.
Everybody's doing it. You know, nobody has to find out.
You know, it's okay, You're not the only one, and
so we have to pay attention. We don't want to
be ones that are led us a stray by Folly. But
(08:31):
little do they know that the dead are there, that
her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.
So she leads you to destruction. Folly leads you to destruction.
Folly does not know nothing. Folly is simple. Folly is
calling out to those who are passing by to come
and meet her, to come and join her, to come
(08:53):
and hang out with her. But we're not going to listen.
Not only Folly is lying and deceiving, she is also
calling out to the wise and saying, come and join me.
And we are not going to listen to this woman, Folly.
(09:13):
We're not going to listen to this, to thee foolish
ways of her, foolish words of that that she speaks
to us. So this concludes just my study in the
Book of Proverbs, chapter nine. I pray it was a
blessing to you. I hope you have learned something today.
I hope that something I have said, something you have read,
(09:35):
is igniting your soul. And if you are walking in
the way of foolishness, please turn around, don't continue to
walk this way, there are there is nothing better where
you are going. Just turn around and do better. Invite
wisdom into your life. Wisdom will guide you, Wisdom will
instruct you, Wisdom will show you a better way. Run
(09:57):
away while you can, and so yeah, thanks for joining.
God bless you and take care
