Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hey, everybody, and welcome to a new mini episode of
the Terrible Terror Podcast. I hope everybody is doing well,
and I'll keep this relatively short with everything that I'm
trying to do. Hopefully relatively doesn't mean thirty minutes, but
you know me, that's the way it is. So just
a couple of quick things want to talk about, including
what we're going to be watching and kind of our
(00:52):
theme month for this month, because it's going to be
really random for August.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I mean really random.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
And it's only because I've been about this movie a
couple of times, and that's the one reason why I
am doing this movie.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
For the podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
And I don't know if I want to torture myself
with it, but I figured that let's pair it with
something just as ridiculous and fun and we'll make a
theme out of it at the same time. And we
are slowly closing to the end of this current season.
Season ten is almost in the books, and we're almost
ready for season eleven. Oh my god, I can't believe
that we're almost there, that we're going to be hitting
(01:29):
three hundred episodes very very very soon. In fact, the
next episode is two ninety nine and then three hundred
is going to be a doozy, and that's the other
reason why it's going to be fun. So I can't
believe I've done three hundred episodes of this goddamn podcast.
Somebody stopped me, Please, somebody stop me. But nonetheless, that
(01:50):
is a lot of movies too have gone through, and
in talking with someone, they're like, You've just hit the iceberg,
and I'm like, holy shit, I've done three hundred movies
and I've just hit the iceberg. Where the fuck am
I gonna go for this and do this stuff? But anyway,
so had a great time going to see nine inch Nails.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Holy crap.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I can't believe that Trent Reznor is fucking sixty years old,
because he does not look like or sound like he's
sixty years old. It's amazing that he was able to
put on such a high energy show. It was just
absolutely fantastic. I liked my seat where I had it.
I wished that I was down on the floor, but unfortunately,
when I got tickets, I forgot that they were going
(02:31):
on sale, so I couldn't get a floor seat. And honestly,
I think for a big portion of the show I liked.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Where I was.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
So it was at the Oakland Coliseum here in the
Bay Area, and they have certain seats where there's nobody
in front, even though it's a seat and it's not
against the railing and basically bottom level and at the
end of a corner and there's just a single seat.
I did this for Pearl Jam too, and that was
a great seat for Pearl Jam, and here this was
(02:59):
a great for Nine Nails. What was odd is they
had boys noise open and I didn't know what to expect,
and I thought it was a band turnout it's a DJ,
and so there was a DJ out there spinning the
ones and twos, and I listened to some of the
stuff that the guys put together before and I was like,
oh god, this is weird to have this as part
of it. But after being at the show, it was
(03:21):
really appropriate and everything that he played meshed what we
were going to hear, you know, because you know nine
to Snails themselves, it's not completely just like guitars and stuff.
It's a mixture of you know, synth wave and you
know techno and you know electronica and all that stuff
kind of mixed in one more goth industrial than anything else, right,
(03:42):
if you really want to pigeonhole into something. And so
I was very surprised that everything kind of meshed. But
it was weird because he played for like an hour
and I was just like, what the hell and played,
I know is loose. You know, he's mixing for an hour.
Maybe that's the best way to say it. And what
was really cool is that the mix went right up
(04:02):
until nine to Snale started the set, and so he
had like a breakdown thing that he did, you note,
where like the beat is getting and the beat's gonna
drop and you're getting all pumped and stuff. And then
the beat dropped and there was two stages set up.
It was a main stage and there was like a
smaller B stage that was in the crowd. And right
when the beat dropped, the drapes for the B stage
(04:26):
dropped and there was Trent Reznor in that stage and
he started right where it belongs on piano with it.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
And it was weird. It was like a weird mix,
but it was cool in the way that it was done.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
And I really enjoyed hearing that song being played live
because I had not heard it before they I mean,
it was just like banger after banger. The only thing
was is that they played Sin. But they did Sin
on the B stage where they were doing more of
the electronica style stuff and the like remixed versions of it,
and he did like a techno remix version of Sin,
(04:59):
and Sin is like one of my favorite, if not
my favorite nine Ish Nail song, right, and so when
you got to that, it was like it just sounded weird.
But what also happened during it is that one of
the fog machines broke and a bunch of the fog
juice dumped right on top of Trent Reznor, and so
he like kind of messed it up in the way
(05:19):
that it was. So it was like it was one
of those like natural things going on. And so when
like at the end of the song, he goes, well,
I was trying to be cool, but some water shit
hit me and I apologize that wasn't very cool. I
don't even know what the fuck that was. All right, well,
here's back to trying to be cool. And then they
(05:40):
went into came Back Haunted for that ending that part
of the set.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
It was cool.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
They played you know, about three or four songs on
the B stage and then went to the main stage,
hit about five songs, went back to the B stage,
did four songs, including the new song from tron Ares
that was amazing live to hear that mixed and done
live that was really fucking cool, And then they went
back to the main stage for about five more songs
to finish up the entire set no encore. Of course,
(06:08):
finished it with Hurt, which was great. I actually kind
of shed a tear during that song. It was beautiful again.
That's that again is one of my top songs from him.
And it's funny because a lot of people are like, yeah,
it wasn't until Johnny Cash that people didn't really notice
how good of a songwriter than Trent Reznor won is.
Then I was like, I guess if you weren't listening
(06:29):
to the band, I'm like, I guess you're coming from
like a mainstream perspective of it makes sense, you know
that that would be it in that maybe that song
because it had such a wide appeal when Johnny Cash
covered it, not just in the rock world. I mean
it was played on rock radio stations everywhere because it's
Trent Resnor's song, right, but it hit mainstream appeal too,
(06:51):
and there was a lot of different genres, and really
Johnny Cash did make that song his own at that point.
That song and even Trent Resner says that that song's
Johnny Cash a song. He was wary about it about
him doing a cover of it, and then when he did,
he's like, yeah, that fit him, and it really amplified
the meanings behind the song. But you know, I've been
(07:14):
listening to them forever. It be you know, around the
time of the downward spiral for me, that's where you
know they really took off. But Pretty Hate Machine is
a phenomenal fucking album as well. You know, it's not
just about Closer of course, as a kid is like ooh,
he says, I'm gonna fuck you like an animal. Ooh,
I'm gonna totally get into that, and it's like Noddy
(07:34):
and that's what you listen to. But The Fragile is
my favorite album of theirs. It's a dual CD. It's
long as hell listening all the way through, but it's
got so many different genre blends in it, and it's
beautifully written. And he played somewhat Damaged, which I've never
ever seen perform live before, and that was fucking amazing
(07:55):
and I was just blown away, like it was. It
was just an amazing night of music and seeing one
of these childhood bands, you know, and even him at
sixty years old, still killing it, still sounding great. The
band sounded great. The only one that was a little
bit rough when I listened back to stuff is you know.
He did Perfect Drug and Josh Freese. This was the
(08:17):
first show with Josh Freese back playing with Nine Inch Nails,
and he did the part of Perfect Drug where the
drums just go absolutely nuts and it's an amazing like
solo drum solo that they have in that song, and he.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Nailed it flawlessly.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
And at the end of the song, you know, Trent
looks back into me, He's all, this motherfucker here practiced
with us for one fucking day and fucking nailed it,
and the audience gave him a standing ovation after the
Perfect Drug. That's not the weird part. The weird part
was the the side vocals, the backup vocals for it
when they're doing like the high vocals, it just didn't
(08:55):
sound right. It really didn't like it was fine within
the confines of the concert, but like the mix that
came through on the little bit that I recorded off
my phone. It's just like video to put up on
my profile for a bit like it was weird. It
sounded a little bit weird, but at the show didn't care.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Sounded great. I don't know what it is.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I don't know it was, but overall, great experience, great concert.
Sucks that it was on a fucking Wednesday and they
didn't start till eight and end of the show at
like ten thirty, so you know, I didn't get home
to like eleven thirty and getting up at five the
next morning. Fucking sucks, especially when you're my age, you know,
with everything that goes on in my life. So other
than that, went and saw weapons last night, there is
(09:36):
going to be a full review. I'm definitely putting this
video up. It should be up either later today or
on Sunday. Sunday is probably the better day. I might
eve been doing a stream of video editing to make
sure that the stupid thing actually gets up and is
on YouTube and everything's ready to go for it. I
enjoyed it. I didn't love it. I liked it. I
(09:57):
loved it. There's a couple of things that to talk
about them require spoilers and if you want those spoilers,
I want you to go over to the YouTube video
and check that out when you get a chance. I
just I felt like it was too comedic in some regards,
and some things that maybe weren't supposed to be comedic
ended up being a little bit too much. And it's
(10:20):
told like episodically, it's told from different perspectives. It's not
a spoiler, that's just what you're going to get into.
And it almost feels like it could have been a
TV show, And if it was like a five or
six episode TV show and focusing on each one of
the characters, maybe it would have been better in the
way that is, and there's two characters that they do
(10:40):
perspectives of that in terms of the overall story, just
in my feeling, they could be just removed entirely because
you'd still get to the same ending. It just wouldn't
include those two characters in the end, right, So it's weird.
Like ultimately it's like a three out of five for me.
I really love Barbarian, and I would rank Barbarian way
(11:04):
higher than this, right, Like Barbarian is peak. This is
just kind of okay, not necessarily my favorite for when
it comes to at least this type of genre movie.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
I think that it fits it.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
I think that it has some really good scenes, and
I kind of talked myself more into liking it as
I was going through it. So with all that, there's
still one more thing that we got to do before
we end the podcast, you know, like I said, trying
to go through things a little bit quickly, and that's
what are we watching next? Now, I've been more than
a couple people have asked about this movie and if
(11:40):
I have seen it yet and what my thoughts aren't
and people that don't listen to the podcast as regularly either,
like they're like, you need to do this movie for
your podcast, Like I want to hear your thoughts on it.
I want to see if this is as bad as
it says it is, and I want your opinion on
this podcast and need to check it out. So I'm
doing a month long, month long, meaning we're only doing
(12:04):
two episodes because that's all I do for most months
until we get to October, which I still need to
figure out what the fuck I'm doing for October for
that whole month, and luckily that is only going to
be four episodes long. So you'll have that when it
comes to it. But for this, yes, maybe it's not
as much horror. Yes, it's a little more sci fi,
more sci fi action. Maybe I haven't seen anything about this.
(12:27):
I haven't seen a trailer. I haven't seen reviews. I've
seen some people talk about it a little bit on
the sign, right, but I haven't watched anything major about this,
So I have no idea what.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
To expect when it comes to this movie. Right.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
So you're maybe hearing the trailer for the first time.
I'm watching the trailer for the very first time. And
the movie that I'm talking about and the month long
celebration we're going to have is going to be based
around ice Cube, and we're going to be watching for
this one, which is available on Amazon Prime and Amazon
Prime Only.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
We are watching War of the World.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Hey see, you took the Sunday Graveyard shift again.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Dat when's the last time you left the office that's classified?
Speaker 3 (13:38):
The surveillance Industrial Complex is collecting massive amounts of data
with the Goliath program. Our most precious resource on Earth
is data, and data is food for the superior intelligence.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
H you've seen this, you've seen this? Can here tell
you what they're comprised.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Uh no, sir, I've never seen anything like this. I win.
This video is coming in from all over the world, terrifying.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Machines riding out of these meteors.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Get away from that.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Down.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I'm coming for you now. Oh good, Oh good.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
So this looks like we're gonna be watching screens like
it looks like everything is on a screen or on
a phone or on something.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Is it going to be like this is going to
be you know, ice cubes fucking the room.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I don't know what this is going to be. I
hope that.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
I hope that it's better then people are saying. I
will say that right now, right it is like a
zero percent on Rotten Tomatoes or like a lot of
people even on here when I'm looking at the YouTube
page for the trailer and all these things talking about
how terrible it is. It could either it's going to
be supremely terrible and it is going to be something
(15:52):
that is going to be you know, one of the
like classic episodes of this podcast with me just going
off on this thing constantly and see what the stupidest
things could possibly be about this movie.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
We'll have to wait and see.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
So that is going to be it for this episode
of the mini episode of the Terrible Terror podcast. So
thank you guys again for watching it.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Now. I don't know how hot, how difficult this.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Movie is going to be in terms of, you know,
putting it onto a podcast and audio and how much
dialogue that this is going to be if it's primarily
going to be screens that we're going to be viewing,
So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
We'll have to see.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
So follow the socials, check out everything out there, join
me live on Twitch and YouTube every Monday and Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Football season is here.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
So who knows what the schedules are going to be
like for Sundays, but you can find all that as
we move forward if you want to come and hang
out with me and chat and watch the games, or
we're doing like a watch stream or something like that.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
So thank you.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Guys for checking out this episode. We'll see you for
the next one. With the War of the Worlds, take
care of ourselves and each other.
