Speaker 1 (00:36):
Hey, everybody, and welcome to a brand new episode of
the mini episodes for the Terrible Terror Podcast. And I
have been so wrapped up and doing everything else in
this world. I realized that this season is basically over.
There's only one episode left in season ten after just
finishing episode three hundred that I am so wrapped up
(00:58):
in doing the rest of this stuff. Last episode was
the penultimate episode of this season for the Terrible Terror Podcast,
so we are going into the very last episode, and
so we were gonna do, you know, our things back
to back like we normally do, and so this is
also I guess I said out with the last episode,
but I think this episode is going to serve as
(01:18):
the birthday episode because there's a movie that I do
want to do and I've been wanting to do and
I'm gonna do it for this one. So we'll talk
about that in just a moment. I think I'm gonna
get that out of the way. So if you don't
want to listen to all the movie reviews and stuff
that I'm about to go through, which is a lot,
and I just came back from one, so I'm gonna
talk about one in just a moment and then, as
(01:42):
if anybody, if you have listened to this podcast for
quite some time, you know that we're always going to
start off at the beginning of the season either with
a classic horror movie or a really good horror movie.
So I have to figure out what that's going to be,
and so we're kind of doing maybe both for some
people to end this season with. And the movie is
(02:05):
something that I find a lot of fun with and
funny enough. I actually do enjoy the remake, even though
a lot of people didn't enjoy the remake as much.
I thought they were both very good, but it's always
the original.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
That I will always love.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
And this is one of those movies that I saw,
probably again pretty young as a kid, and one of
those ones that my parents actually showed me because they
were like, oh, this is such a great movie.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
You would really love this. You would be okay with this.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
But you know, it's still relatively scary when you think
about it for some kid that maybe is at the time,
maybe ten to eleven years old that's seeing this, considering
that this came out when I was a young lad
of five years old when it came out, and it's
got like some things that I think are kind of creepy,
but overall it's relatively fun. This is a very fun movie.
(02:56):
So for the penultimate episode of the Pot podcast, we
are going into vampires again. This came out in nineteen
eighty five, and it's a movie that my dad does
really like as well. And he's actually the one that
showed it to me when I was a kid, because
he loves one of the actors in this movie because
it reminds me Hymn of when he was younger watching
(03:20):
these episodes of a television show that he was a
part of. And so for the last episode of season ten,
I can't believe I'm saying that we are going to
be watching fright night.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
What would you do if you accidentally discovered the house
next door was occupied by something not human, something horrifying,
something unspeakably evil. No one believes you, Mom, I didn't
have a nightmare, Not your mom.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I did kill a we're all over there, Not your girlfriend, Charlie.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Is this some sort of a trick to get me back?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Not even the police.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Look, I know it's crazy, I.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Know that, but all the time it knows that you know.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
You'll do anything to protect yourself, but it will do
anything to protect it's secret.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Fright Night. If you love being scared, this could be
the night of your life. Fright Night coming to your
neighborhood this summer.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
So that's right, we're going to be watching Fright Night.
It's currently available on like to B and Plex and
a couple other services like that. Also, if you have
YouTube TV, you can find it on YouTube tv as well.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's available there.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
It's been showing an AMC so they have it as
a OD if you really wanted to watch Fright Night.
So I'm looking forward to it. It should be a
good time, should be a lot of fun. Again, this
is a movie that I love from my childhood and
I think that it's a very fun movie, great practical
effects for the time, and there is some body horror
(05:30):
that's in there. So speaking of which, so I believe
that I have made my choice. So we are going
to be doing body Horror for October. So we will
have four episodes of the podcast that are all focused
on body horror. And if anybody's listened to the mini
episode and you have an idea for some body horror
(05:53):
movies that you'd like me to check out, go ahead
and message me on you know platforms, whether it be Twitter,
Face Book, Instagram, go out there. I'll go, of course,
like I always do, through the links and stuff at
the end of the show. So if you want to
send me a message and you have an idea of
movies that you want to do, and I think there's
one that I want to do, and I might end
the month with it, or might start with it, or
(06:14):
I might.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Even lead into it.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
But the hard part is is that I want to
do this classic movie. So unless there's like one really
surefire classic horror movie that is body horror that I
don't think that I've done, or what I consider to
be a great one, like Video Drome would have been
a great one, but we've done Video Drome already, so
I'm you know, I wouldn't pull that one out of
the hat again or just put up the episode.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
That'd be a really big fuck you to the everybody. Else.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Hey, we're just going to do a replay for this one,
and you guys are gonna have to listen to my
video Drome episode, or it's the video Drome remastered episode
like they remaster every fucking or the remake Video Drome episode,
or however else instead of it being you know, I
think back then even it was close to two hours maybe,
and it'd be like a four episode of the Damn.
(07:00):
I don't fucking know. I would never do that to
anybody out there, nor do that to myself, even though
there are some episodes of the show, honestly that I
would love to redo and do it in the new format,
like even the very first episode. It's an idea that
I've always had, but I don't know how that would
fly if I did Terror Vision as a redoone episode.
(07:20):
And it may be that if I decide to end
the podcast, maybe that's what I'm gonna do. I will
start the podcast with TerrorVision, and I will end the
podcast with Terror Vision. So that's always something. So if
you ever see that episode, that means it's the last
episode of this podcast period.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
So anyway, but I look forward to it.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
So if you have ideas a body horror, let me
know and I'll see what we can put together in
some of the you know, the movies that we are
looking at in this world of body horror. So there
is one that I'm thinking of doing. I may not,
but I think it'd be interesting to do. I'm just
(07:58):
not sure if it is that it's the right time
to be doing that movie personally. So, and it's a
more recent body horror movie that's out there. And there
was one that I kind of did I think like
a video review for, or at least I talked about that.
I'm kind of like, uh, I don't think I do
a full episode of the podcast for just because I'm
not sure if I want to sit through the movie again,
(08:20):
because while I did enjoy it, I think it's awfully
slow and for a lot of it and those are
the hardest for me to do for this podcast. So
without further ado, let's talk about some movies that I
have seen lately. So I'm gonna start with the most
recent movie and we'll just work our way back to what.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
I remember the most, what I remember the least.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
And so I just came back from The Conjuring last Rites,
and let me tell you, I am not a person
that The Conjuring is made for. I just think that
even after this, like all the movies, there haven't been
many that I've like, really enjoyed. What I love most
about the movies, Okay, and I'm not saying that they're
(09:03):
bad movies. There are a couple that are bad in
the universe of it, and there's a couple of Annabel
ones that come to mind. But overall, what I really
do enjoy about the Conjuring movies is the whole thing
of the demonology stuff and the spirits that are there
and wanting to learn more about those things. And like
(09:24):
with the last Annabel movie, there was a couple of
spirits that were used in that movie that didn't get
enough time to shine in my opinion, kind of like
the second one with the Crooked Man, Like I really
wanted more out of the Crooked Man in that movie, like,
and I wanted to learn more about it and actually
did my own like reading of lore and all the
other stuff, because you know, if you know me, I'm
(09:45):
a low hound when it comes to these things. I
will put on Like Lord to sleep too and end
up not sleeping to it because I want to listen
to the whole thing that's there. And so what I
didn't like about this one because it's focused on what
we be, the last thing that they ever did right,
the last case that they ever had, the warrants had,
(10:07):
and it's about the conjuring mirror itself.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
So yeah, get it the.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Conjuring, Conjuring mirror, that stuff that's there. Yeah, it's kind
of like summing up on itself, and it's a decent
wrap up to what it is, but there's not enough
behind it, behind the lore of it and what it
it does, I mean, the basic premise. And I'm trying
not to spoil this as much as I can, you know,
(10:30):
and you know me, I ended up spoiling things. I
just want to talk about things and just get it
all out there and all my thoughts on the table.
But when it comes to this, I don't know what
the demon is that's behind it, right. Is it just
something that can just summon demons? Or is it a
portal for other demons? Like I do want to know
more about it, but there's not enough in this movie
(10:51):
for me to be like I just I have to
digest everything, and that to me personally, it kind of
really hurt it. The other thing that I I know
a lot of people are going to absolutely love and
they're gonna get into it, but for me it just
did not work personally was the fact that they're like
(11:11):
the other Conjuring movies, you spend a lot of time
at least in the first two not so much. In
The Devil Made Me Do It. The Devil Made Me
Do It kind of did the little shift like this
one did where it's focused more on the Warrens than
anybody else in the film, And that one it seemed
to make a lot more sense that they did because
(11:32):
it was kind of a personal and this is personal too,
but I felt like we didn't get enough of the
stuff that was happening to the family, that this demon
was really affecting, whereas in the first one and in
the second one there is a lot of that, and
I like those scenes the best right out of those movies.
And again with the first two, I did not see
(11:53):
them in the theaters. I've seen every other freaking movie
of this series in the theaters hit or miss, And
when it comes to like these two where it's focusing
on the Warrens, I either want them to be directly
involved consistently in it, or I want to get like
that outside thing I want. If you're going to have
(12:14):
this two and a half hour movie, two hour or
however long it was, then why don't you show me
more of what's happening to the family instead of all
this accessibility. I know that this was really doing more
of a like fast and furious, Like I'm surprised Vin
Diesel didn't come out and say family at some point,
you know, family, that type of thing going on there,
(12:35):
And I you know, it starts off fine in what
it is in that their their very first case turns
out to be their very last case. That it is
the first thing that they ever really did do with
each other where she was pregnant and you know, had
her daughter in her womb, and then they ran into
the mirror and then the ghosts kind of or the
(12:56):
demon kind of attached themselves to the daughter that was
in the womb, right, And so it's really about that.
It's about how they get you know, the demon's gonna
get the daughter back into the situation that that's over there.
But there's all this other stuff that's just like personally,
I don't really need to know. It's more like focused
(13:19):
on them, But then why add the family, Like the
aspect is just to get the daughter backed in there,
that's all it really is. But even then, like there's
some really well shot scenes in this movie. I love
the wedding dress scene. I think that was really fucking cool.
And sorry if I burped in your ear. I didn't
intend to do that. Now I'm hiccupping, so I'm trying
(13:40):
to hold a fucking back. But I like I like
the way that that's shot, and there's a couple of
creepy scenes. But what also happens with this too is
that it uses so many standard tropes in it that
I just was like, Oh, Okay, this is gonna happen here,
and this is good that happen there, and there's gonna
(14:01):
be somebody in the background. Like this one loved to
use background stuff, which I like for overall. You know
when movies do that, but when it's like sparingly used,
and it's like constantly there's always some type of spirit
or ghost or demon or whatever it is in the
background just say Hi, what's up.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
I'm here.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
And there's so many stupid decisions in this movie that
I'm just like, why would you even do that? Like
you are related or are the warrants? Why would you
even continue to do these things? Like I can understand
maybe the warrants putting themselves in the way of danger
to solve the thing, but they're all at the point that, oh,
you know, Ed's had his heart attack and he can't
(14:40):
afford to have another heart attack or he's gonna die,
and you know, she doesn't want to put herself in
that type of danger anymore. And they've like kind of
retired with the whole thing, like there's all that stuff
going on, and but yet they're still like I get
it if something draws you back in, it's so like,
you know, it's so engrossing, the just can't not do
(15:01):
this and they have to help these people. I get
those things. I totally get those things, but I just
felt that at times there were just so many things
in this that I just wanted to like rip my
hair out at things, and things were unintentionally funny. There
was stuff that I was just laughing at in this
movie because I found it so fucking ridiculous. And there's
(15:22):
a scene with a dog that I was like, uh, okay,
yeah you did it, Like it looks bad and it's
funnier than it is, like sad that it's being done too,
but I'm like, you don't really have to throw the
dog around, do you? Sorry for the spoiler on that,
whereas somebody else gets like thrown down the stairs and
(15:43):
then you don't get to see that, Like you don't
see any of it, right, You just see the person
being dragged out of the house on an ambulance, and
it's like, well, why didn't we get to see that scene?
Why didn't we get to see the setup there with
that character, no matter how minor she is to the
whole plot of the whole thing, Like I want to
see more of the ghost or demon fucking with people,
(16:05):
then more stuff about like the son in law as
soon to be son in law. They're you know, asking
for her his daughter, their daughter's hand in marriage, and
all the little awkward things that they do. Like maybe
and me and I could be wrong in my thought
process with that of what I'm expecting to see in
this movie versus what this movie itself is trying to
(16:30):
do and what the story's trying to do, But I
just feel like it's really messy, and like you don't
need the other family to just keep doing this type
of stuff other than it they're just a basic plot
device to get from point A to point B. And
I wasn't really fond of that, Like I just kind
of want to give everybody like a fifty to fifty
show more of what's happening to them, even though it's
(16:52):
not saying that it's not a lot, because it's quite
a bit that goes in there. But I just felt
it didn't amount to whole much. So while I don't
I don't think it's terrible, but I just don't think
it's great, right, Like I might give it like a
three out of five, you know, coughing up glass or
copying up mirror, whatever you want to say for that one,
(17:14):
like that was And that was just funnier to me
than it was like scary, Like nothing was scary in
the movie to me, Like even though it's got decent tention,
it's just the payoffs aren't good because I know what
the payoff is going to be.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Like it was just.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Everything that I could just figure out as I was
watching the movie. So I was like, Okay, it could
have been better. It could have been a lot better.
Whereas the other movie that we went and saw that
it's like a hundred. It's a one to eighty for me,
And I bet you there are a lot of people
that don't like this movie as much as I love
this movie, which was the reboot of The Toxic Avenger.
(17:51):
I thought it was fantastic. I thought it was really funny.
I think that I wish there was more practical gore
that was in it. There was plenty of a lot
of gore, and it felt very trauma to me. And
that was like the number one thing is that I
was afraid that they were gonna do their own thing.
But it did feel at times like the director writer
(18:12):
was making a movie for himself, and like if you
weren't in tune with his humor and the style, then
you weren't gonna get it. And luckily for me, I
was in tune with it. I also think that tonight
I am now completely spoiled by Alamo Drafthouse and having
it here and going back to a regular theater where
people are just being fucking dix the entire fucking movie.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
It sucks. It really does, and I really want to
go back.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
And I kept thinking to myself because Alimo has this
thing that you can call the attendance and write down that, hey,
these people are being assholes and on the second, you
know time that the person approached them, they will toss
their asses out of the theater without any refund.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
We're here.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
It's like this lady had her phone light on the
entire time, and then like, I don't know what she
was doing, because you sounded like a fucking pug that
was just constantly snorting through the whole movie. And the girl,
one of the girls that was with them, was so
bored of the movie. They were just looking at their
phone the entire time, and I kept having to go over, hey,
would you please.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Turn off your phone? Would you turn off your phone?
Speaker 1 (19:12):
And that doesn't make a good viewing experience for a
movie either, So maybe it's a mixture of both the
reason and like Condrey, whereas with fucking Toxic Avenger Man,
the only thing that I was upset about is that
Peter Dinklish isn't in the suit. I wish they were
in the suit. I wish he was. But he does
a good job. And the actress that plays the Toxic
Adventure as the Toxic Avenger did a really good job
(19:33):
of emulating the way that Peter Dinklish's character would act
in it. And I've seen some people saying, oh, the
humor doesn't hit. The humor hit really well. For me,
I thought so much was funny. I thought that the
how ridiculous and over the top it was. I know,
it's not the exact same story as it is for
the original, and they're not just doing a piece by
(19:55):
piece remake that they're trying to update it. Like it's
not Tromaville. I ain't Roma's Ville or some shit like that.
I can't remember if it was a ville or town,
Saint Roma's Town or something like that, So it's supposed
to be Trauma's town. And they did recreate the fast
food scene a little bit different, and it definitely was
a little more over the top, and it definitely was
(20:17):
a lot gorrier than I thought it was going to be.
I like the fact that they put all this shit
in the background and that you could read all this stuff,
and especially when you get to the mismeat and all
the stuff that they have on the walls. It's fucking hilarious.
And I love the stuff that you see back there,
and I love all the other stuff that's in the background,
and even the background throwaway lines that just happened randomly
(20:39):
and break the fourth wall. It's fantastic. And I thought
that Peter Dinklish did a great job as the Toxic Avenger.
I thought Kevin Bacon was great. I thought Elijah Wood
was really good. I think the character was underutilized. I
wish we had seen the character more, but I like
where they went with the character. I don't like necessarily
where the character ended up, but I thought that it
(20:59):
was it was good, and I like the fact that
there were practical costumes that they were using for a
lot of things out there. And there's some great dick
jokes in this movie that are really fucking funny and
out of the middle of nowhere. The best one and
I'm gonna ruin this and if you haven't seen it yet,
maybe you want to skip over the next five minutes
or something like that. But the best one happens in
(21:20):
the park after she beats or he beats up the
rock band that's there or whatever band you want to
call them. That's like the thugs of the movie, and
like everybody's oh Toxy and like the chicks are flashing
him and everything like that goes to different than a
dude flashes his dick and balls at him. And that
came out of like left field, and I was fucking
busting up laughing because it was hilarious in the way
(21:41):
that it was. And there's another dick joke that happens
later on in the film as well, and I just
thought that it kept the humor alive, it kept the
gore alive, and it kept the campiness alive of what
the Toxic Avenger is going to be. And that's a
solid four out of five, you know, Dick flashes for that.
I just absolutely loved it. It didn't quite hit the
(22:03):
five out of five. And there are a couple of things. Basically,
I wish they had to use more practical effects in
the movie for a lot of the gore and maybe
kept it in that cheesy camping realm of having those
practical effects for what they are. But for what you get,
it's pretty good. And it's understandable that this thing's been
in limbo for like three years now and it was
supposed to come out in twenty twenty two, which I
(22:23):
think when it was filmed, and just nobody picked it up.
And finally, you know, there was one publishing company which
I can't remember the name, and I no, Bloody Disgusting
also helped publish this movie. And it's great that we
got the unrated version of the movie in theaters. If
you're in any way interested or you're on the edge
and you love the original. I think that you really
(22:44):
loved this movie as well, and it just fits that
so well. And I just was so excited with the
movie after we saw it. I also got to have
a great viewing experience at the same time. But even then,
it's not to say that people weren't loud and laughing
and making comments and stuff like that, but it wasn't
anything rude that was there. And I love the way
(23:05):
that Almo Drafthouse did a bunch of trauma shit before
the movie started. We got the trailer for Tromeo and Juliet.
They showed the old cartoon trailer for the Toxic Crusaders,
as well as the old commercials for the toys and
everything like that, Like that shit's cool, instead of sitting
there and watching the same fucking ad seventeen times and
the stupid coke intro about how you need to make
(23:27):
sure and go get your popcorn and shit before the
movie starts because you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Miss the big thing.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
It's like, when does the big thing happen right at
the beginning of the movie unless it's a sequel to
something else and they have some big scene that they're
doing that's not gonna be the biggest scene of the
goddamn movie. It's gonna be later on. So if you
went out and got to refill both your popcorn and soda,
that's your own fucking fault if you're missing something at
the end, But to miss something at the very beginning,
especially when they showed, you know, thirty fucking minutes of
(23:53):
commercials and trailers, but after the time says that the
movie's gonna fucking start. We're over there with Alamo. They
it happened right away, you know, it said seven fifteen.
At seven fifteen, the trailer started rolling, and in fifteen
minutes later the movie started playing, and we were out
of there at a decent time. It's a really good
run time. It's just a fun film to see. And
(24:15):
if you get the chance to go see The Toxic
Avenger in theaters, please go and do it, because I
think it'll totally be worth your time. Now, the last
movie that I saw I mentioned a little bit, but
a little bit more. If you really want maybe a
little more in depth review on this, you can go
to the YouTube channel and you can look at the
past dreams. I think from two weeks ago that Monday,
(24:36):
because I went to an extremely late showing of Hellhouse lineage,
and I thought about doing the hell House movies for
the October, which I think I already talked about. But
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. In terms of
the lore of the hell House saga. I think it
does a good job. I didn't like that it's sequelbating
(24:57):
at the end because I thought this was going to
be the final movie in the franchise. Turns out we're
gonna get another movie to complete this story, at least
one more movie that we're going to get. I didn't
like that that we're getting towards the end of them,
like what are they gonna do? And they're setting up
all this stuff. The one thing I did not like
about the movie was the lead actress. I just didn't
like her, Like she just wasn't engaging enough and for
(25:21):
her to be the main focus. And if you've seen
the hell House series, she's one of the survivors from
the third movie that's there, and that you know the
fact that she had to die and be reborn because
that's what was doing that was going to stop the
evil and the hell House stuff that was going on
there and spoiled it for the third one, which has
been out for quite some time. So she's the main
(25:44):
character in this one, and just as an actress, I
don't think that she can really carry it that well.
But I think that, you know, the director does a
very good job at, you know, creating tension, creating good scares.
There's one that actually got me in the movie, you know,
And I said with the last hell House movie that
I actually was it was pretty frightening, and I think
(26:05):
it's one of the better ones of the series. If
I had to place this one within the hell House series,
I would say it's probably number four for me. So
like the best is the first one, like, and that's
a lot of series the way they are. Then I
think the third one, and then I think the second one.
(26:26):
This one and the third one is my least favorite.
So and it's funny because the third one has a
good amount of lore and maybe and I always flip
flop these two. It could be second, third, and I
might even put this one third in compared to the
second and the third one, But as it stands right now,
until I can watch it again, I would put it
in the fourth. And I think what really hurt it
the most besides the lead actress of the movie is
(26:48):
the fact that they went away from the found footage
documentary style of movie. I think it really works for
this series, and this one was a straightforward movie, something
that the director was trying for the first time in
this but I just I didn't feel it, and I
like the idea of it being in that documentary found
(27:10):
footage that you're in the shoes of whomever is in
the scene at the moment that we're following around, so
you visially, you don't get those cues and you don't
see the weird stuff that happens in the background and
all those things. It's like a blink and you'll miss
it type of thing, which adds to the tension for
a lot of things. But there were some great filled
(27:31):
scenes in this one. The one inside the Carnie game
that was there. I like that one and how that
was set up. There's one later on towards the end
of the movie that's great, But there's just a couple
of things. And I think that the priest that shows
up he was in one of the movies as well,
if I'm not mistaken. And I like how it's going
(27:51):
directly from the last one, and how they're using footage
from the last one in this one, and how there
are some you know, kind of cutaway flashbacks that go
in here. Like I said, it's not bad. I think
it's good for the lore, and hopefully we're gonna get
up to the point in the next one that we
actually finished the whole thing and we find out the
entirety of why this is all being done. And you know,
(28:14):
even starting this one basically a little bit before the
last movie that was there that we knew stuff about,
but we got to see a little more of what
was going on. Is well done, and I guess the
big twist in the movie relatively early on it was
gonna be between one of two things in my mind,
and then one of them happened to be right. So again,
(28:36):
I wouldn't say it's great in that four or five
star territory, but it's definitely a good, solid three out
of it. If you like the hell House series, I
think that you're really going to love this one. And
I would definitely give this three out of five. Failed
priests in this and I think that it's it's just
a fun movie, but if you try to take it
(28:58):
super serious and being a super SERI horror movie or
like like the other Hellhouse movies, maybe you're not gonna
have as good of a time. But if you're really
into the lore of this series, like I am, and
I didn't think I was going to be. And even then,
the first hell House was a movie that I just
watched during COVID when I was stuck in the office
by myself. I was the only person that was working
(29:19):
in the office at the time, and I just said
that I could do the shipping and everything else for
the company and watch the building for a while. And
with that, like, I just put the movie on the
background and ended up paying more attention to the movie
than me doing my own work. And then I started
watching the other ones on my own time. And so
(29:39):
it's a series that I didn't think that I was
really going to like, and I really do like, and
I'm really really into and I really want to see
the next in this series. So but yeah, that's basically
it for this episode. So we'll be back on the
