Speaker 1 (00:00):
The UFL season finally has a start date, and we've
got plenty to catch up on, including the reps vacation.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
We got tons of go on.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's episode ninety of a long awaited UFL podcast episode,
and it starts right now.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Long till wait.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Welcome back everybody to the UFL podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Now it's been a minute, it's been. It's been a
good time.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I checked my calendar and it appears it's been it's right,
one hundred and five days.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Jesus Christ.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
We've been gone a little way summer vacation to the max. Uh,
someone's been out and about on the opposite side of
the pond. But we got a lot to catch up on.
But before I do that, you know, let me address
the man who is the globe trotting fanatic that is
the ref on the opposite side. It's good to see you,
I'll be honest. Ever since the championship, you and I,
I mean we've been keeping tabs, but like, haven't we
(01:11):
had a video call or anything in a minute, So like,
it's good to catch up with you.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
That's a roll. I mean, I think some assumed I
may never come back. Some were hoping it probably as well,
but you know what. Here I am. Here, we are.
I was telling you, Zach, wefeere you know, no curtains
before we got on the show. I've had these smart
lights plugged into this ceiling fan for like two years now,
(01:35):
and I finally synced them up to the app to
where they do something other than just operate as normal
light bulbs. So enjoy the atmosphere. I was I might
change it. I was maybe gonna do with the lights change,
but I was feeling a little dizzy. It was a
little bit too much for me. Uh but no, it
feels good to be back. We have some news to
(01:57):
talk about, and I'm gonna be doing a little bit
of gloating. I'm gonna be doing a little bit of
a cake walk today. But we're gonna get to that
a little bit later, Zach. I mean, we'll talk about
what I did over my summer break, because that's basically
what it was with summer break schools back in, folks,
gotta get back on the podcast. What did you do
(02:19):
for your summer break? Oh?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
You know, you know me work avoid the sun because
as you as you and I both know, the Arizona heats,
no joke, no, but the good news is because one
thing that's lovely with my some vacation is the falls here,
which means cool weather, which means I'm going to be
going outdoors. I bought I bought a hiking backpack. I've
(02:42):
been prepping for the good times.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
So let me ask you, so this is this is
gonna be a funny thing. So cool cool weather that
is probably like ninety degrees. Ninety degrees probably feels cool now,
doesn't it.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I was gonna say, hi, Hi have like ninety ninety one.
I invite those days in today.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Funny how that works.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
It is, well, there's no humidity, so like you and
I both know, like it was ninety seven in Saint
Louis Dury in June, and that is the worst I
felt all year anywhere in terms of like overheating or
like trying to like stay hydrated, and like I feel
like I'm gonna pass out from eating exhaustion.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Was the championship game this year, and I lose so hot.
It was so hot I got sick for like three weeks.
Like I don't know if you remember that I was
so sick. I was convinced that I had the new
illness that we shall not be named. I was like,
oh no, here we go. It's election year. What's going on, folks,
(03:41):
what's going on? But you know what, it all turned
out fine. I guess it was probably just the first
It was probably just the first illness that we shall
not name. But dude, yeah, well I'll say, you know,
I'll always admit when i'm wrong. Luke, I remember he
was in the discord and he said, bro, it's hot
out here, and I said, guy, you just came from Texas.
(04:02):
It ain't that hot. And then we were there that
afternoon it was it was hot. Yeah, I didn't like it. It
was so hot. It was not fun. The game was good,
and I'm very glad it was in a dome. God
if it was outside in that heat, unlike the two
years in can't Ohio. We're just beautiful.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Those were lovely nights out there, man, really lovely nights
for those us USFL games at the time. And I
think we have a little bit of a discussion today
as well on the championship game. I know we're already
thinking so far ahead, but before me, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Let's think.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Let's think a little far farther back in terms of
the start and let's plug some stuff. It's a podcast.
We gotta get back the swinging things. We just gotta
get back into giving you some awesome opportunities. So, first off,

know what, let's dive into something that you know you
are hinted at. You you're I want to hear you gloat.
I want to hear you get your get a pump
(06:29):
your chest out a little bit. The Roughnecks are returning
to TDECU, which uh, I believe you were one of
the first and the first to point that fact out
that they are coming back this year.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I mean, since you bring it up, Zach, you are
absolutely right that I was absolutely right. Uh you know.
I mean the real deal is this is amazing news.
This is great news. It might be the best news
of the week if you ask me, because quite honestly,
if there's one thing that bummed me out more than
maybe the record of the Roughnecks that last year was
(07:05):
the location and nothing against Rice Stadium. But when you
compare it to TDCU, I mean, it's really way miles apart.
We have one seatbacks at TDCU on the the one thing,
I'll give it the gripe. I'll give it it's nicer on
(07:27):
the visitor side, but I sit on the visitors side
for that exact reason. We get shade. We get shade.
So when it's you know, a million degrees out and
hot and all that, at least you have shade. And
I'll tell you I never really noticed in Michigan growing up,
but living in the South, living in Arizona, you learn
shade matters. Shade matters more than you would ever know,
(07:49):
and so it goes a long way. It also has
a whole like boxed in club area, so if it's raining,
they have a whole like bench table with seats, so
it's almost like seating on the inside, not to mention
private restrooms, not to mention your private merch room, not
to mention like a private bar and all that stuff.
(08:10):
Where I mean, if I've ever had to wait in line,
it was maybe one or two people in front of
me for the same price. Of course, I'm gonna pick TDCU.
I just well, the campus is top notch, so it's
already on sale, which I got to give a shout
out to Hector. Hector is my man. I told you,
(08:32):
you know, my man, Brettzeleski, our man, our dude, our homie.
Poor went out for him. He left, he found a
different venture in the off season. I was worried. I
was worried, as oh what am I gonna do? That
was our dude. That was how I was going to
ensure that I have my VIP premiere access to whatever
(08:53):
I need and my tickets. In this I got a
direct line and I didn't even have to reach out
to anybody. My dude, Hector, he he reached out an email,
which I'm not acting like. He just reached out. He said, oh,
I gotta go find this the ref guy and reach
out to him. No, no, no, no, this is how good
he is. This dude's working hard. He's reaching out to
everybody that was season ticket holders, and I'm you know,
this is at least for the last year. If you
(09:15):
were a season ticket holder in twenty twenty three, which
I was. He was. He just said, hey, do you
want the same seats that you had at TDECU the
prior year, sign me up. And actually, I said, you
know what, I can't remember because I knew. And this
is why I'm glad he did this, because in twenty
twenty three, going from twenty twenty, they didn't have any
of our seats saved, and so there was a mad
(09:37):
rush of people trying to get seats, and I lost
my seats, and honestly, I couldn't remember. Like I was like,
you know, I knew I couldn't get my seats last time,
but I can't remember if they were good or bad.
And he's like, oh, no, these are your seats here.
I said, oh, those are actually better than I remember them.
Book it. He's same card, same card, book it. I
(09:57):
didn't have to do anything. So the moment they went
on sale, you know what I was doing, working, not
having to worry about like trying to get out of
a meeting or on a meeting, be like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm paying attention while I'm like, what's my credit card number?
I gotta get these seats fast, you know, so I'm
locked in, I'm ready to go, and I'm hoping. Please Hey,
UFL gods, UFL guys, one of you gotta be listening.
(10:20):
One of you has gotta be listening. Here's what I
need you to do. Maybe I'll reach out to my dude, Hector.
He's there, he's listening, he's responding, here's what I need.
It doesn't necessarily have to be the first game of
the weekend, which hey, if he did it that way,
that would be pretty fun. But if it's not, please
let Houston have a home game that first week. And
because I gotta take you, Zachi boy, I gotta take
(10:41):
you and show you luxury. We're gonna go. You're gonna
feel like a king. You're gonna be drinking with your
pinky in the air. We're gonna be sitting there like,
I mean, I don't even know what. We might have
to get a horse and carriage to bring us to
kid of the game because we're gonna be like royalty,
which if you're in Houston and you haven't heard the
Roughnecks are back at TDECU and you better be at
(11:02):
this damn game this year. Really, I mean, what are
your thoughts.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Look, it's it's a better venue, it's a nicer venue,
it's newer, it's it's got everything, you know, And I've
never been to TDCU. You have told me so many times.
And not just you, there's other We've talked to other
Houston fans. I remember being at Rice last year and
we sat there for that opener and kind of we're discussing,
you know, the changes, and clearly the contingent was if
(11:26):
we can get back there, people will be happy. And
I think for the venue, I think also for just
maybe even location wise, based on what I've understood, like,
I think that's going to help bring people in, and
I think those numbers will get back towards the ten
k plus mark that they used to be. Now that's
location that's not gonna do everything. You still got to
have a good team, which we I mean, I'll be
(11:47):
honest with you something. I haven't gotten a chat much,
but we've talked on discord. Will Lewis has done a
lot of house cleaning and there might be some changes
coming in or might be some new and improvements with
that too, So fresh start there, fresh start again, going
back to a venue that people know about.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
It's good.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
I am very thrilled and I will be making my
way down your way to see a game. You've you've
been telling me for years about this venue and.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
I got to check it out.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
It looks gorgeous, like it's it's model.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
And I even even been to it since they've added
the renovations and done some of the changes that they
were working on, so I can only imagine it's even
nicer than it was before. Now I'll tell you this.
You know, with the TDECU announcement, which again I must
admit I was the first person to put that out
there that they were in talks to return. You know what,
(12:37):
when you're right, you're right. I'm not gonna dwell on that,
but I will dwell on this. Things make so much
more sense now. Of course, of course, the Roughnecks would
never go twelve and oh at Rice Stadium, it would
be a waste. It would be a waste.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Oh now, how I did, how I have been racing
for this? It was coming up. I gave you a
little softball with Will Lewis.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
But here we are. Please conside you now, with the
change of venue, now with the homecoming, it all makes sense.
We have Will Lewis, we have a restructure, We have
so much time in between now and when we hoist
up that beautiful United Football League trophy at the end
of the year. Some would say, well, how are you
(13:25):
gonna beat the Stallions? And I would say, We've done it.
We've been there, done that before. Now I will say
I if I have to play the Stallions in the playoffs,
I would be worried. I might be a little confident,
but a lot worried, a lot worried. So, just for
all the Stallions fans out there, I cannot deny that
(13:48):
your team is what we all strive to be. You
are the champions upon champions upon champions. It doesn't matter
what the league, it doesn't matter what the opponent. You
guys come out on top. So I get it. I
get it. But this season is destiny. It was meant
(14:08):
to be td CU no, no, no, sign td CU up.
That's what I say. We are not only going to win,
we are going to win big and confidently, and maybe
for the fun of it will only win by a
(14:29):
couple points. Just make it interesting, right, But it's gonna
be good. It's gonna be a fun season. I'm looking
forward to it, you know, just because this is on
my mind and it feels like a natural progression into
the next talking point here. Sure, UFL they we have
(14:50):
details on the twenty twenty five season, real concrete details,
more confirmation to some of the things that we've heard
in the past as well. So we have the kickoff
date before we get into that again, I'm sure everybody
knows what the date is, but this kind of it's
falling in line with what we've heard from earlier communications
to season ticket holders, specifically to the DC Defenders. Again,
(15:14):
shout out to Sem in the discord because he's always
kind of keeping us updated with the things that he's getting.
But earlier this month, they sent a notice out to
the season ticket holders kind of give him a quick
outline of the timeline of what they could expect in
the off season, and they said, hey, you know, in
the next few weeks you'll get a look at our
season footprint. And I know there's a lot of people
(15:36):
that what what does that mean? And I think some
people were thinking, well, maybe it's the dates. Maybe because
we already know who they're playing. They're going to play
every team in the league, right, and we're not going
to know who they're going to play because they said
well later in the fall or by the end of fall,
you'll get the full home and away to people like, well,
what is a season footprint? And I mean, I think
(15:56):
it's a fancy way of saying, well, we're going to
start releasing details around the season, and here we are
a couple weeks later, the two weeks it happened. Here's
the thing, you know how the two week meme is
always perpetually. Two more weeks, two more weeks. We got
the two more weeks and the news came, yeah, we
did sign them up. Nobody gives credit when it actually happens.
(16:19):
Folks sign them up. So we got a March twenty
eighth kickoff, which is essentially the same kickoff that we
had last year, other than it's on a Friday night.
A couple takeaways Friday, they're going we we had rumors,
it was pretty much a confirmed rumor that the league
was going to be playing on Friday nights. We didn't
(16:40):
know to what extent, but they're going all in if
you will all in? Oh yeah, ten games on the season,
Uh so, basically a game every week, including the opening week.
Now two points on this one. I think there were
people weren't sure when the kickoff date was going to be.
I think, and I even saw some folks online we're saying,
(17:02):
you know, I kind of expected them to go back,
and the reason they did it later last year was
because it was such a short runway in. But we're
still seeing them stick to the March twenty eighth. I'll say,
I like it. I'm fine with it. I actually enjoy
having a couple of weeks, a little bit of time
in between the super Bowl and the beginning of the season,
(17:24):
I think. And we'll have to see, but I think
will be impacted less with the heat now that we're
at TDCU. I know that sounds crazy because they're both outside,
but I'm telling you, the shade will make a lot
of difference, and if there's an indoor section area, but whatever,
I get it. Yeah, what are your thoughts? I don't know,
did you expect us to kind of be the same.
Do you think they would go earlier? Do you have
(17:45):
an opinion either way, if it's good or bad, what
are your thoughts.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
I was wondering if they were going to move in
earlier because they last year. As if you remember us
talking about this, it was considered a kind of a
compromised choice. And I think that, you know, when all
the common are coming out from Darryl Johnston and Russ
Brandon going we're evaluating everything. We're going to see every
kind of basically see every off season now, like what
(18:09):
works best for us and how we can adapt and change,
And I think those comments a lot of it was
taken as more in two ways. I thought people were
going to say they're going to evaluate the start date
and going to evaluate the kickoff because the NFL now
has the XFL kickoff, which I have. I'd love to
talk about my two cents and how it's gone so
far once we if we go later in the show,
but for now, you know, I personally they was gonna
(18:31):
get gonna get moved. You know, I didn't know if
they were going to do it, and I think that
for all intentsive purposes, and I think what won out
still to me, I really don't think they want to
compete with March Madness and this kind of puts the
point out because they keep in mind, yes, the Final
Four does play that weekend by the scheduling terms of
(18:51):
what March Madness should go by. However, you avoid the champion,
you avoid the championship itself, and keep in mind March
madisonly plays one of those two days. You're playing on
Friday now, so you take one of those games out
of the equation on a separate day. I think the
Friday games might have saved that. I really that's my hypothesis.
(19:12):
If we're in speculation zone, I think the Friday primetime
game helps justify that a bit more because then you're
only sacrificing one game to the dogs of competing possibly
on the Final four night. And I think it works out.
I personally like the bit, like it too. I know
there are a lot of people that want to have
it the week after the super Bowl. They want to
go straight in. It's been done before, and I think
(19:33):
that there is viable arguments for that. I know that
some Birmingham fans I've talked to, or you and I
have talked to, you know, because the heat in the
Southern games. I think that's a good question still and
they'll get monitored, I think, yeah, But I like the
break personally. I like to get geared up and get
kind of hyped up for another season rather than getting
lost in the sauce of like super Bowl weekend and
(19:54):
everything like that. That's why I like it, because it
gets me geared up more. And I think it's the
casual fan geared up more to go, oh yeah, football,
Just give me a little time and then we got
more football.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
On the other side. That's all you need. And when
it comes to the weather, and I feel like not
all of it, but a good majority of it can
be solved with scheduling, and I think it's important that
they do schedule Birmingham, Houston, Dallas, Memphis earlier in the season.
(20:24):
The Bramas we'll talk about a little bit later, but
the Bramas, you have funny enough, which kind of goes
against but you do have a little bit more flexibility
because you have the dome apparently not well. But again,
story for a little bit later in the episode. But
I feel like if they can, if they can get
the schedule right, then the later kickoff won't be such
(20:47):
a moot point because if you can have those later
games in Michigan Saint Louis is in a dome. DC's
kind of a mild atmosphere as it is. Sorry, go on, No,
you're bringing up a point, But I think you bring
up a point about Friday night because what is one
thing people have wanted. They wanted more night games. They
want in the.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Southern in the Southern team bases, they want more night games.
Guess what do you don't I if I was a
smart scheduler and they're still working out the schedule you got,
you can't tell me they're not gonna focus on getting
more of like the Birminghams or more of the like.
Maybe not as much Memphis because of the situation with
the arena, with the venue, but like say, like the
(21:26):
Birminghams the Texas squads for night games that are outdoors
because it's gonna feel good, especially Birmingham. Those Stallions fans
are gonna love it. They've been arguing for a while,
and I think the proof is in the pudding that
those people come out more when it's an evening game
where it's cooler, and it's also the end of the week.
You know, you can get have some fun in uptown
at the end of the week too, you don't got
(21:47):
to worry about you know, I know a lot of
people arek about like church and other factors there too.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Midday.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
It's hot in the summer and the spring. I think
that's part of the adjustment. It's just, hey, how do
we alleviate the heat while also putting more in prime
time so that we have maybe possibly a better chance
to get people to watch. So I think there's a
lot going on that makes it and I think Friday
solves a ton of problems and a lot of things
that we're possibly going to need to be compromised. Like
the schedule, it does a lot. You know, it's still
(22:13):
a gamble. Friday on TV still is not the most
popular day at all on TV. Actually it's considered a
dead period for a lot of shows. But for sports,
I think it might be proving itself well, and I
think it will this year.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Well, it'll be interesting to see what. So they're by
proxy taking over SmackDown spot, but they're really taking over
the off season of the college spot. But in between
that time, I'm curious to see whatever they put on
that Friday night slot in between college football and you know,
the championship and the UFL. I'd be curious to see
(22:49):
what numbers those get, because I bet you, Zach, I
bet you that the UFL gets similar, if not exceedingly
better numbers than whatever thing that they would either have
to spend money on to put on the air, where
you could argue, yeah, they're spending money on the UFL
because they own it and they're putting money into it
in that way, but they're not having to spend money
(23:09):
as far as broadcast rights. It's it's kind of evergreen content.
To me. I think it's kind of a win win,
But I'll be curious to see what those numbers look
like because that'll be an early tell for me of Okay, no,
this is a good idea. This makes sense for them
because otherwise you could see what they'd be getting anyway,
and this is either better than that double than that
tripled in that or even if it's the same, then okay,
it's not worse. You don't want to be worse. If
(23:31):
it's worse, then it's like, okay, maybe maybe Friday night
isn't the best time. I don't think Fox is too
worried about it. I think their hope was to really
start leaning into the streaming aspect of it. Unfortunately for them,
the Venue thing wasn't able to kick off in the
way they wanted, which I'll be honest, I'm a little
bit upset by I get the argument because I don't
(23:54):
want to see things like Fubo go away. I didn't
expect it to get kind of kabashed right at the
last minute. I was kind of excited. I was really
excited to have one app, one app for the UFL.
So I don't have because I'll credit where credits due.
That was the amazing thing about that twenty twenty three
(24:15):
XFL season is if you had ESPN plus boom your set.
You have every XFL game, you have the playoffs, you
have the championship, the whole kit kaboodle, you're signed up,
where last year you basically had to get YouTube TV
or Hulu TV or have cable because if you had
ESPN Plus, you're not getting the whole thing. And I
(24:36):
don't watch enough TV. I don't watch enough TV. With sports,
they get you, so Venue, I was the person that
that was made for. We could argue all day and
night that the price point was not correct, but I
don't I'm not here. We didn't even get an opportunity,
and that bothers me. I don't like not having an
(24:57):
opportunity to test something out if it's a free market,
as much as I love Fubo, and if everybody wants
to use Venue and not Fubo, I mean, that's that's
how that things work. Guys.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I could have a whole episode on on Venue because I,
I'll tell you real quick, love the concept. I think
it needs to happen for the for the market and
for the for the media set up we have today.
I want something like that, but I think we're going
to either see that get shaken up again or we're
(25:27):
going to uh definitely have it where someone else might
pull out through their good news is though, I and
here's again Friday Friday night football. You know what that
also solves to me, you're going to be unless, well
unless Fox does use f S one. There's been no
indication they will. I mean, keep in mind only they
sparingly used f S one last year. To me, this
(25:48):
is another hype again speculative portion. I think it removes
f S one out of the picture entirely because you
then nice, Yeah, you don't have to over stuff on
a Saturday or Sunday, you know, And yes, Fox is
getting in the car next year, so that's something that
is worrisome. But because they moved it to Friday for
one of their primetime games every week, you have a
(26:10):
little more playing room to run with if you want
on that weekend schedule. So yeah, to me, I think, really,
if you just buy ESPN plus, you're spending eight dollars
a month to get everything, So that's good. But yeah,
I think fascinating overall, just really the start day, the
fact they didn't change it and just it does. It's
(26:30):
amazing they didn't. But I think the Friday night games
really did help save that a lot, a lot of possibilities.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Do we all due USFL and XFL after dark games
like the late night games. Some of those, yeah, were
the most fun. It always always turned out. There was
one game of those USFL ones that was so I
can't I think of the breakers were in it. But
I'm not trying to be a hater, I swear, but
I'm pretty sure with the break where it was. I
(27:01):
think it was the generals and the breakers if I
remember correctly where it was, so no scoring, it was
so boring of a game, but then like the fourth
quarter was maybe the most exciting quarter of football I
have ever seen. I have to go back. I'm I'm
I'm collecting and getting all of the games in order
(27:21):
because I have I think I have all of them now.
I think I have all of the games from all
of the XFL seasons and the USFL seasons. Here's hey,
this is I'm going to use my platform for good here, guys,
does anybody have the Spring League games? They do not exist.
You cannot find them. There were people that had them
(27:42):
on YouTube, They're not there anymore. There is nothing. There's
nobody hosting them streaming wise. Does anybody have the Spring League?
Because especially if anything, the Mega Bowl? I know somebody,
somebody out there has to have the Mega Bowl. Please
reach out. I was at the Mega Bowl, so I'd
really like to have it. That's a shame, man, I mean,
(28:04):
that's that's football. I mean, it's not like crazy, it's
football history in terms of this, Like, you don't have
this whole UFL without at least get the lost media.
This is lost media is lost media.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Someone's got to have it somewhere. I mean, you you
can't tell me, Yeah, you.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Know, probably has it set lessons. I bet you he's
got I might. I might go on threads. They say,
jump on threads and hit them, threads and hit them.
I'm you know what I'm gonna. I will keep you
guys posted. You should because all the Spring League games will.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
While the ref is looking that that up, let's jump
into something else that has been discussed with this to
two items that are kind of schedule based around and
that have been kind of hinted at. Right now, apparently
we're on the street. Is the DC is an early
condender to host this year's championship game. Fascinating Now context wise,
(29:02):
now let's remember last year's championship Saint Louis. I think
we all have discussed at one point or another that
I think the league, without saying it directly, might have
been leaning into the BattleHawks maybe making the championship. And
you know, credit, they still sold decent amount of numbers,
actually pretty similar numbers to what they sold out. DC
(29:26):
Venue Max is now thinking about this what if hypothesis.
This is a choice because it's a twenty k seat
stadium and if you fill that bad boy up, it
looks fantastic on television and it's a market that still
is pretty ravenous for spring football.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Well, I'm gonna tell you this, it doesn't matter where
the championship game is going to be, twenty thousand, thirty,
fifteen thousand, whatever the stadium is, you're going to have
that many cars with swangas on their way from Houston
to go to that game because oh girl baby, oh now,
I'll be honest. I kind of like DC is a choice, uh,
(30:06):
bucking the trend a little bit because with the X
with the XFL at least, uh both both the championships,
you know, the twenty twenty. Unfortunately we never got our
championship in Houston. You can bring it back, guys, you
can do it. I can tell you, Scott. But I
win it yourself. So it is, Yeah, that's what it is.
We gotta win it and then say hey, come and
get it, come and get it right. So anyway, so
(30:29):
they're not in the Dome this year. I was actually
we did early speculation zone. I think either on the
last episode maybe it was a to U. It was
one of these things where I was saying, oh, I
wonder if it's gonna be ford Field, and uh no,
it doesn't. Well we don't know if it will or
won't be uh, but DC's up for the early contender.
Now here's my initial feedback. They have a fun audience
(30:51):
as it stands, right, And so if you can get
a core of that rowdy DC audience to build a
beer snake and maybe not throw lemons, but where lemon
gear and you know, just have you know, be loud
and rowdy, and then fill that up with the remaining
people that are traveling to the championship like I know,
(31:11):
I will, you will, and all sorts of people that
are fans of their teams, like I said, a whole
bunch of people with Swans because the Houston Roughnecks, Togoing
twelve and oh this year. Then you kind of have
an atmosphere for a good time. The worry is just
the weather. You just have to hope it doesn't rain.
Now I don't know much DC, Yeah, I mean, if
(31:32):
you're opening up that that's the only thing. I don't
get to look up the rain totals or average rainfall
really quick, but you know that would be the only thing.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You do lose the comfort of a dome in this sense,
and you know, we're comparing at least last two XFL
ch or last two championships that are on XFL S teams,
you know, because that seems to be the pattern we're
following right now. You've got San Antonio in the Dome,
then you got Saint Louis in the Dome. DC is
a fun rowty bunch too, So I like the choice
for the pick. If if it is the case they
(32:02):
are going this way, it still is a good fan
base to roll with. This is a team that still
near sells the entire stadium every week, it doesn't matter
how good they are not. But yeah, weather, you know.
And it's funny because I feel like the spring football scene,
you get like people way more critical about like certain
elements of football because it might mess up.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
The growth of the game.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
So like, for example, I remember in the USFL, like
the two years we the first to the two seasons
we were covering and like any of the rain, I
think the games are rain delayed to be like this
is a mess, this is why we can't play outside,
and it's like, well, I mean it's it's spring and
slash summer in Alabama. It kind of gets crazy out there.
From what I've told DC, maybe.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Not as much, but I'm gonna say this, when it
comes to weather in football, bring it on. I mean,
I'm maybe I'm old zach mate, and you know.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
What, I'm outdoor all over indoor personally, like take any time.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Like to me, I we had the opportunity to have
more snow games. I want a snow game. Now that's
not I mean it's really not going to be no
probable at least with the schedule that we have. But
you know what a good rain game. I'll tell you.
The most memorable XFL original V one game to me
(33:20):
was the There's a Rain Game with I think it
was the Memphis Maniacs. I can't remember who they were playing,
but it was like a mud pit on that field.
There was like puddles and they're sliding around. Sign me
up on that. Now, you don't want people getting hit
by lightning, but I do want to see shenanigans on
(33:41):
any given Sunday. And now it's any given Friday, Saturday
or Sunday. Not oh when the weather's good. No, this
is football, this is United Football League. And so if
it's a little bit of rain, little bit of rain, no,
the worry is it is lightning because beyond the safety,
(34:02):
and it making sense for them not to keep people
out there. Legally they cannot. Legally they have to, I
think stay out for forty five minutes from the last
lightning strike within seventy five miles or something like that,
which again I am four. I am four, So that
is the risk. That is the risk. I'm not gonna
(34:22):
say what I think just in case I'm wrong, because
people on the internet will clip it and say, re peteos.
I don't know what the weather's like in wherever it is,
so I don't know. I don't know it's summertime though. Yeah,
I did check up. I did check up on two things.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
So first off, in DC in June, it averages about
on record average about three and a half inches of
rain a year. This year was really light, about an
inch and a half, so not too bad. It's like
it's middle of the road. It's not like spring apparently
it's a little more rainy. And then the lightning delay,
So that's the NFL policy, which I believe the UFL
(35:03):
also follows. It's a thirty minute timer, so thirty minutes
timer begins after lightning strike when thunder is heard, so
it resets every time. That happens is what goes on,
so you know, and I get it. You know, that's
a delay. It's springtime, so like we are running into
more storms at that time. But you know, I don't know.
(35:24):
It's you gotta live with, live with it is.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
How it goes.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
And keep in mind the markets that we're in, and
you know, not everywhere has a dome that's just readily available.
That's a nice NFL quality one too. I think the market,
if it is DC's great. You know, some people might
argue Saint Louis still, but it's not fully set in
Stone's just the word on the streets that we're hearing
(35:47):
is that d C is very likely in play to
be this.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
So I asked, I asked our new AI overlords aiolord situation.
I said, what is the weather in d C and
in June in regards to thunderstorms? It says this. It
says DC usually sees sunny or at least partly sunny
day skies on about eighteen days of the month, with
rain occurring on about nine or ten days, with thunderstorms
(36:17):
lightly on six six. Significant rainfalls of a half inch
or more, however, only occur two to three days so
you're thirty percent chance to get a storm, but of
that thirty percent, it's it's a lower, lower likelihood that
(36:38):
it's going to be a significant storm. Thank you, AI,
if you ever become sentient. This is the proof that
I approve of everything you're doing presently and in the past.
I approve of it. Don't do or harm me.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Please leave us alone. We are going to we will
be helpful in the growth of AI.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Cut this later for us to save his proof.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
They've gotten to the point, Zach, where AI models are
now creating better AI models, And I don't know, Zach,
I don't know, maybe getting close, maybe get.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Better AI models on forecast predictions for these UFL games.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Then well, well, at least you're thinking positive about it, Zach, Like, Okay,
what if they build a robot body.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
I'm finding lying around, I'm finding the way to use
this for football purposes.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Don't don't place football players anyhow, Oh yeah, man, don't
do that. No no, no, no, no, no, no, no no
no no. I shouldn't never suggested that. Now they got
the idea AIS like bepepe beep football player. That's a
good idea, you, Zach. Anyway, now, I've lost.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
It again and I get concussion.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
All right, last thing on the dot.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
So while we are currently hearing the word on this
street that DC has a high chance or a good
chance at least of being the host championship game, something
else that was confirmed and is definitely happening. According to
Saint Louis Battlelock season ticket emailing is the Battlehocks are
taking a game from the San Antonio Bramas And this
(38:22):
was kind of explained. The best way I can put
it is availability was not there is the best way
I can put it, which I don't know about you.
I know that this isn't the first time availability has
affected a game. Look, I'm a Michigan Panthers fan. Clearly
concerts have been the bane of existence for me. But
(38:45):
still kind of sucks like there was no other alternative,
and they like, I find it different like that USFL
at the time was we had certain hubs and you
still had Canton you could lean on, and it was
kind of very flexible.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
This is very like we're trying.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
To grow these communities even more, like there's much more
emphasis on these communities need to come in. So while
I get it that it's easier just hey, Saint Louis
has availability, go right ahead, and it's a it's a
day for tickets. I'm also on the belief that dang
Man Bromise fans kind of get get the shaft on
this a little bit.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
For season ticket holders, it's it's here's the thing that
gets me. So I get it from the UFL's perspective,
They're like, look, we got this game, we can't play
it at their home stadium. Where should we do? Oh,
we got this stadium that like a lot of people
show up to. So I get it from a ticket
sales perspective, I'll start there, get it, got it good,
sign us up now, I will. I will say this
(39:45):
from a logistics perspective. The team plays in Texas. There's
three teams that play in Texas. They hub all of
the teams when they're not playing their games, all go
back to Arlington, Texas. Why wouldn't they play the game
(40:06):
either in Arlington or just a quick bus drive down
to Houston. And I you know it would have been
it wouldn't have been great. But you could even say, hey,
season ticket holders, here's what we're gonna do. We're only
going to charge you for four tickets for San Antonio,
but if you want to travel to the game, we'll
(40:26):
get it for free. We'll give it to you for free,
and you know what, maybe we'll even charter a bus
and we'll charge I don't know, five ten bucks a
person and you can all take a bus together, right
to me, and I get it. May there might be
reasons the availability might still not been there for TDCU.
Maybe it wasn't there for Choctaw. I find it hard
to believe, though, I don't know well, And that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
I don't have the rundown of events listed right now
as to like, what's what are the other Texas stadiums
look like? Are there other venues you can negotiate, like,
I don't know about that right away. You know, I
know you you and I I've talked in the past,
and some other people talk. You know, it's it's Texas,
so you could do high school football, but then you
gotta you know, you got a debate on where you're playing.
(41:09):
I digress. That's not really in the focus. What the
focus is is, you know, could this game have been
played in Arlington or in Houston?
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Possibly?
Speaker 1 (41:19):
And I think more so, which was I think that
would Arnkin's a little closer, right, like, not by not much.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Yeah, well, to be Arlington probably makes more sense because
they're already there. They're already there now you don't have
to pay a you don't have a plane ticket, you
don't have a bus, you don't have to do anything.
The team's already there, right, So logistically, to me, that
makes the most sense. But okay, yeah, maybe maybe Choctaw
is booked. Houston's we drove therezagad ain't that far. It's not,
(41:49):
it's not.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
It's a reasonable drive, you know, and you got two
BUCkies on the way. It's exactly you got great road
I mean, dude, Texas is a great road trip state. Anyway,
I gotta go. I gotta go drive out that way
myself when I get time. I digress that. It just
makes me wonder, you know. And again I think like
the simple logistics of it are, like, look the league itself,
it's gotta make money. And I think that that is
(42:10):
definitely people are gonna come out to that. You're gonna
get your thirty k fans to watch that game. I
guarantee it. It's another home game. I had someone try
and tell me it wasn't like, well, it clearly is
because they're selling it as the package with the BattleHawks fans,
so it's a six game, so there is that. But
I do think this is something you just you can't
(42:31):
do that too much moving forward. I think in the
USFL era it made sense because they were more laxadaisical
on the hubs and the teams being whare and whatnot.
But now, look, we got to commit to these markets.
And I mean, I know that they are. They're not
as big of a sports property in Texas, but like
(42:52):
Antonio doesn't have too many crazy large sports properties. And
I'm surprised the Albumodome doesn't have availability when it's not
college football season. By the way, there only it could
be Roadrunners, that's it.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
It could be Monster Jam. I'm not gonna lie. I
mean yea, like that's Monster Jam season. There's maybe a rodeo,
possibly a motocross that feels very Texas in that time
of year. So I do kind of get it, but
I feel like there were other options. All three of
them were booked a way, and and here's kind of
(43:27):
the thing that's really kind of kicking them while they're down.
They're saying Okay, not only were we taking a home
game away for you, we're gonna put it at the
place that you got shut out. Yeah again the championship.
It's like, come on, man, like that's I get it.
You can kind of have your redemption story there.
Speaker 1 (43:46):
But what's wild to me is there's actually a beef, right,
a beef I've seen online between Brahmas and Battleogs fans
for a little chippiness apparently at games with the last
matchup they had. And this is just something a song commons.
I'm just saying, though I've seen.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
It, so people had some words and uh, I don't know.
It's just I feel like we're getting a little bit
of a rivalry for some of the weird reasonings in this.
But yeah, hard hard to put it. I mean, I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
I want in the future this year, I want it
to be an anomaly that we see this. I don't
want this to be a regular thing. The league shouldn't
want it. They probably don't. But you can't keep doing it.
Like the farther we get into this, you you cannot
have the accept the expectation where the possibility lingering that
you may lose a home game, season ticket, holders won't
(44:37):
stand for that, not not on the long term. Maybe
this year they will if they get more perks, but
you can't do that year over year over year. That's
just going to drive some people away.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
And you know, I drive one exception. With one exception,
what is it? If they play the game in Houston,
I think people will be fine with it because they're
going to want to come to that state of the
art TDECU Stadium. They are going to lose the game,
so they might as well get a vacation out of it.
They could see some swing as in real life, you
already know what the results.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
They already know what the result is, right, That's exactly point, dude.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Twelve and oh twelve and I was going to feel
so good, dude, if you thought things were bad with
ress law being you know, not one percent, not two percent,
not ninety one hundred percent correct over the last two years.
That just wait until we go twelve and oh dude,
it is going to be good. It is going to
be fun. And I hope, I hope please. This is
(45:29):
what I ask again, UFL people, somebody's got to be
listening again. I'll send Hector an email. Don't make me
please let this be March twenty eighth opening game of
the season, Michigan Panthers visiting the Houston Roughnecks at td ECU.
So we can do our barbecue bet once again. And uh,
(45:52):
this time, Zach, I'm going to take you to a
different place that the place I took you was good.
We went. Wait, did we get barbecue? No, we didn't
do it. We did not. It's right. Okay, we got
BUCkies barbecue, which is good, but it ain't I mean,
we went.
Speaker 1 (46:06):
We had a few great good spots in your neck
of the woods, though, so I'm not complaining.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
But you know that damn berthas Berger, Dude, I have
one the other day.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
God, God, don't don't get me started. I'm already I'm
already dreaming. I'm already thinking about it. But yeah, I mean,
this is a bummer. This is a bummer for Brahmas fans.
I saw the fan of the show, Brama babe. She
was you know, she's not gonna stop being a.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Fan over it, but you know, rightfully a little upset
by it. I would well use, zachly.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
Use one more experience, one more memory, one more time
to be.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
With your team. That's the thing.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
You know, we we try to. I feel like spring
football fans connect deeper with their teams than maybe even
they do with the teams in the NFL, And so
I think that's what hurts a little bit more too.
If you're a Bramas fan, is like, damn, I lose
one more opportunity to kind of get get an opportunity
to see Wade Phillips and his crew, like John Trey
Kirschwan who just got signed on back recently, like some
of these great players. I get to, who's that chance
(47:00):
to see that? So, you know, yeah, it's I just
don't want to see this be the regular.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
Thing moving forward.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
This the exception, not the rule after this year.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
But man, it feels good to be back. Zachie boy,
I think those are like all the topics.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
Yeah, this is like ranting time for me. Well I
was to say, it's not over for you. I this
is my little pseudo interview inside of this. Look, oh okay,
the globetrotter. Come on, man, let's let's let me hear
about the experiences of the globe trotting ref the the
man in the black and white going to was it
(47:37):
UK and France?
Speaker 2 (47:39):
Yeah? So I went to. We stayed in London, which
I'll tell you I wasn't so sure. I wasn't because
I'm not a big city kind of guy, Zach. You know,
you saw where I live. I live. I'm not like
in the middle of nowhere. But I'm not smack dab
in the middle of somewhere either, right right, yeah, And
so big cities they always kind of give me a
little like, I got what's going on here? You know? Uh?
(48:03):
And you know what, it was perfectly fine. I am
so envious of the rail system in Europe. I love history,
and the one thing about Texas is there's some history here,
but it's kind of spread out because there's not there's
a lot of land. I mean, it takes, you know,
twelve hours to get from one side of the other.
But it's like, okay, it's the oldest standing wood log
(48:26):
cabin in the state. That's cool once, yeah, you know
what I mean. But looking at something like, you know,
anything out there, even you know, Big Bend, the Tower
of London, even going to the museums, that to me,
I'm a museum guy. I am a antiquities guy. I
like statues and things like that. And in the British
(48:50):
History Museum. They have the Rosetta Stone. To me, that
is like the coolest fucking thing. Oh well, whatever, it's
very late to the episode.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
The jewels out there too, yeah you know.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
And you know what, Zach, this is the one time
I didn't have my spyglasses on when we got the
Crown Jewels. Oh but I did get a picture. Come
and get me now, dude. The guards were on it too.
They were like looking at everybody and I snapped one
of his little blurry.
Speaker 1 (49:22):
I was like, I mean, there's serious about that crapa
in that. It's been a long time since I actually
been the UK. But like they hey man, they watch
like a hawk, like, oh yeah really.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
But we were talking about this before I went. But
the food, you know, it's funny people, it's a food
in London, food in England. Who would want It's not
really about what the food is to me, it's about
the food quality. Food quality is so much better there
than it is in the States.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Tell me, let me ask you this. Did you feel
lighter when you came home?
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Oh? I felt a million times better. And ever since
I've got here, everything just tastes like salt, which I
don't like salt. As it is. I'm already like a
you know, Zach, you kind of know me in real life.
I'm kind of a weirdo on weird things and salt
is one of them. I just I don't dislike salt,
but I don't like a lot of salt. And so
(50:18):
I left and I was like, man, everything tastes great,
this is amazing. And I came back and I could
just taste it right away. I'm like, posh, salt, bloaty, puffy,
it's gross. And I'll be honest, I'm just pounding water
more than I normally am because all I taste is salt.
But dude, food wise, So we did the Borough Market.
(50:39):
We did the Borough Market a couple times. We did.
We went to this place Dshume, which is it's a
Michelin star Indian restaurant in London. Wow, the most amazing
Indian food I've ever had, and I knew it was
authentically Indian because it's still messed up my stomach the
next day. And it wasn't just me everybody, but it was.
(51:01):
I would do it again. I would one hundred percent
be right on in line at Deshume eating that again.
We also went to Gordon Ramsey's River Restaurant, which was
at well, I'll tell you, Zach, I am a I'm
(51:21):
a weird guy. I'm a weird guy, right, And so
the River Restaurants at the Savoy. The Savoy is like
a five star hotel and uh we we get an uber.
I get out of the uber and it's like the
bell man opening the here you go, sir. I'm like, oh,
I am in the wrong place. I Am not gonna
feel comfortable in this place if they're opening the door
(51:44):
to my uber. And I got like a wind jacket
with me. I'm like, okay, I can't let people see
this thing. And they even had like coat check and
I'm like, I can't. I cannot drop my coat. This
coat off at the coat check. I feel dressed down?
Is that what I'm Is that what I'm understanding? I
felt dumb, you know what I mean? I felt like,
oh god, I'm just an American. So we sit down
(52:05):
and this is the worst thing that could have happened.
So we went with two friends of Lisa I guess,
the two friends of my wife and I I guess.
And so there was me and Lisa were sitting staring
towards the restaurant, and our friends were sitting towards us,
which faced the window, so they didn't get the luxury
(52:27):
of seeing what I got to see. And I'm already
like awkward as it is, and I could just see
everybody is like, oh, hey, how you doing? Knife and
fork with like their tips of their fingers. I'm like,
where am I? I'm like, does my hair look good?
I'm like trying to hide my jacket. I'm like, you know,
trying to make sure my shirt's not all crazy and
(52:49):
you know, and they could also like, Stefan, what's wrong
with you? I'm like, no, I'm fine. Just you're not
seeing what I'm seeing. Guys, this is freaking me out
a little bit, freaking me out. And so so because
I was like, just watch, just watch, I said, I said,
I don't think they want us to have our phones
out at the table. I said, I'm just gonna I'm
(53:10):
just gonna try an experiment, but let's just see what happens.
And so I pull out my phone and sure enough,
three people swarming on Eh, do you need anything? I'm like,
see see, I said, this is what this is what
I'm watching. Because every time, they're pulling out their phone
to take a picture to their like looking over and
they're like what I think it was? So at first
I was like, are they just like weird about the
(53:32):
phone cameras? Like what is the deal? Here's what it is. No, no, no,
they just have amazing service. Act. They're like, oh, they
have their phones out, they must be ready, they must
be bored. Like they were like only there to like
present for us. Now I'll tell you I'm still awkward
and out of line and weird. Until God heard my
(53:55):
prayers he sent the most awkward guy to this restaurant
to save me from feeling awkward. Because this guy, he
was set over like maybe a couple of tables from us.
He was like talking on his phone, and then he
started like walking while talking on his phone, looking at
the menu, and I could see the waitresses and the
waiters being like guy, dude, this place is too fancy
(54:18):
for that, And so they come and talk to him.
And he was a French guy. And I don't know
if you know much about French people, but they talk
to you, not all, but most they talk really close
to your face. And this guy was like right. Even
the waitresses like freaking. I was like, this is amazing.
This is the best thing that could have happened, because
(54:38):
then I started to feel comfortable, which was the worst
thing that could have happened, because Zach, if you know me,
I am a magnet for mistakes. And so we we
get our food delivered. The fanciest dinner I've had. It
was so much. It was like six hundred dollars meal, right,
whoa Lisa got the you know, the the the signature,
(55:03):
the what is it called the beef thing with the pastry.
Oh my god, be Fallington, Beef Wellington, Yes, thank you.
It's like his best known dish. That's like his thing, right.
I like beef. I'm not always a huge beef guy.
So I was like, you know what, this is my sound.
I went for the curry. That's curry I've ever had
(55:24):
in my life. But curry is Gordon Ramsay, that's one
of his other things. He's into doing curry. So I
was like, you know what, sign me up. He does
talk about all we all got different meals basically, right.
And so I'm there and I'm enjoying my curry. This
guy's yapping over here talking with his newspaper out and
I don't know. I put down my fork and I
(55:45):
go to grab like my drink, and it was like
something out of a movie where like the fork does
like the full flip in the air. I'm like ah,
and I try to grab it and it lands like
right on my shirt and I so now I have
this big like orange on my shirt in this five
star like oh god. So then I was back to
(56:05):
being like a little bit awkward. But then the guy
who started acting again, he got the back of the
waitress's face. I was like, God, you're right daring. I
just felt a little thing. You can't be mad at
me for that. At least. I'm not crazy like this
guy over here. But I will say it was expensive.
But we also, so here's the thing. We all had
four entrees, we got appetizers, we got drinks. So I
(56:30):
would do it again, but probably not like to the
extent Paris. And I'll be honest. I can only be honest.
I've been to Paris before, and it seems that Paris.
Paris isn't a dump. But it doesn't get cleaner. It doesn't.
It doesn't get cleaner every time I go. I'll just
(56:51):
say that much. The people are friendly as you would expect.
My wife loved Paris. I like Paris. I'll say that
much good. I'm glad. I'm glad you also still enjoyed
your Sorry. The Louver is great. Which here's the thing
(57:15):
with the Louver, right, so everybody goes to the Louver
and everybody goes to love and you know what they
talk about, Oh, the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lise is
at the Loover. Have we got to go see the
Mona Lisa? No? I mean the Mona Lise is great,
but have you ever been? Have you ever been to
I luckily.
Speaker 1 (57:29):
Did get to go to Paris in that same trip,
so uh yeah been. I have seen it in person.
You know, it's small, though it is it is surprisingly small.
Actually the star.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
Of the show though, Zach and I don't know if
you remember. All you gotta do if you're looking at
the Mona Lisa, all you gotta do is turn a
complete one eighty and look at the wall and there's
like a huge painting or a tapestry. Maybe now I'm
not even doing it justice. It is the most remarkable
thing that's in that damn building other than like the
antiquity state. I choose things like that, right right right up?
(58:02):
Uh so, yeah, I mean we did the louver. The food.
This is the thing with Paris, so you know, I
told what I was talking about. Everybody says, oh, the
food in London, it's so disgusting. Food in Paris. Everybody
talks about how great it is. It is fifty fifty
and yeah, you know, the closer you are to the monuments,
the grosser it's going to be. It ain't that great.
(58:25):
I'm just gonna be honest with you. It's okay, it's fine.
It's okay at best. And we got the croissant, I
got the espresso. What else did I get? I got it.
I'm let you know. I did all of those things
and they were fine. They were fine. I did get
French onion soup at a place and it was disgusting.
(58:46):
They should be They should be kicked out of France
for thinking that what they're serving is French onion soup.
I I should have known there was a problem when
our waiter fas one of our friends into ordering a
drink because she was like, I don't know what to get.
He's like, oh, get this, this is what you want,
and he came back and had like fireworks coming out
(59:07):
of it, and that's all I was like, that's the
instant I knew. I was like, we're at a horrible restaurant.
Oh boy, we're at a horrible place. This is gonna
be just horrible food. You're thinking tourists, trapped tour Yeah,
it was just too not far enough from the attractions, apparently.
And so the meal comes, or when it comes to
(59:28):
ordering the meal, that's when I got the French I
need to same person that ordered the firework drink. Unbeknowns
to her, she's like she didn't know what to get,
and he's like, oh, you got to try this, trust me,
everybody at the table would be jealous of you and
blah blah blah blah. So she orders something and it
was like it was a steak again with fireworks. I
(59:49):
don't know. I don't know if they were trying to
impress her what the deal is.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
It was only her meal, So it's one thing with
a drink, steak, just sparklers on the on the meat.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
Well, it was like, I don't even know how to explain.
It came on like a little tray and there was
like little holes in it and it was like sparklers
going off, which again I wouldn't really want my food,
nor would I want on my drink. No, thank you,
but yeah, continue, I want to hear the rest of this.
So is steak and then bone marrow, which is a
delicacy to a certain extent, but at a place like this,
(01:00:20):
I didn't try it. I was not. Again, I'm already
a little weird when it comes to things like that,
so I wasn't trying to hear. And then beef tartar,
which is just you know, not cooked ground beef. And
I'm like, nobody is jealous of that? Now nobody's here.
And I didn't try in of it because I already knew.
(01:00:41):
I already knew what my food tasted like. And I
mean Lisa got a margarita pizza. Oh that was the
other thing. She got a margarita pizza and it was
cheese and I had four olives on it, and I'm like,
I don't is that a margarita pizzas was supposed to
be going on here and it tasted like I would
rather have chuck e cheese pizza. So I mean, knowing
(01:01:03):
that much, I'm like, i think I'm good. No, I
mean on the top, what the hell four olives. I'm like, okay,
that's terrible, man. So I love the food in London
though Paris, you know, take it, leave it whatever you want.
But dude, I'll tell you that flip and Sunday roast. Man,
(01:01:25):
if I could get a Sunday roast every day of
the week, which, if you guys don't know, it's basically
a beef Thanksgiving dinner. It's beef like, almost like a
prime rib. I would say, gravy a Yorkshire pudding, which
is not a liquid, it's a bread. The Brits are
crazy like that. Guys comes with potatoes, maple, carrots, bubble
(01:01:50):
and squeak, which I think is like cabbage and cheese
or something like that. Oh my god, sign me up, dude.
Everything everything was good in London. Everything was horrible in Paris.
Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Okay, let me let me ask then, if we're going
back to the London food, So obviously you make your
way to a pub, yes, a lot, Yeah, I mean you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Gotta go one. It's kind of hard to miss. I've
got to drink since I came back from London. If
that tells you something, A good point, good point? This
isn't rigulated.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
I just am saying, because one of the best pubs
they do a fantastic English breakfast. Please tell me how
the traditional one I did, but it wasn't. I should
have went somewhere else. So it wasn't a good one,
but it had this stuff wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
It was an okay one, but it was. It was
at the hotel. Now credit where credits do? The hotel
didn't do. It wasn't like I don't know. It wasn't
like a motel six breakfast. It was a little bit
more done up, but it was still kind of like
buffet style. Yeah, that makes sense. It was fine, but yes,
I should have gone somewhere different. Now, fish and chips
(01:02:56):
sign me up. Pies of all sorts. And if you
guys don't, no again, when I'm talking about pies in
the UK, it's usually stuff with meat or cheese or
not fruit basically. So if you think I'm talking about
good old America pie, I ain't. I'm talking about cheese
and onion pie past these, you know, the good old
(01:03:16):
beef ones, empanadas again. Burrow Market. I could go on
all day about Burrow Market because we were do we
got I figured we'd be in a good location. Again,
I've never been to London, right, So our hotel was
across the street from an underground station, so there subway,
and that subway got us most of the places we
(01:03:39):
need to go, and if it didn't, it was just
usually like one stop or two stops over and that
line will get us anywhere we need to go. It
was amazing. And so like Burrow Market, it was two
train stops from our hotel, so it's like, this is great.
So honestly, any day I was hungry for lunch, I'm like, well,
let's just go to Burrow Market. It's right there, and
you had every option, you know. But we did have
(01:04:00):
like amazing restaurants even around us. So again we had
the Indian food, where again I think a lot of
Americans wouldn't expect that Indian food would be popular out there,
but INDI you know, I think butter chicken is the
national dish of the UK's actually it's from it was
made in the UK. It's kind of like burritos, I
(01:04:21):
think in that or maybe one of those things that
we all think is Mexican food was actually made like pizza.
That's a good example.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Here's another example, Uh, you know Hawaiian pizzas made in Canada.
It was made in Canada, that's what. Yeah, something like that.
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Well the Italians they'll kill you, I hear if you
order a pineapple on a pizza. Yeah. Honestly, I thought
the whole meme about like pineapples do not belong on
pizza was a joke because I I actually don't mind
a good pineapple on my slice. But but then I
heard about the Italians. I'm like, you know what, Okay,
maybe the meme is real, maybe maybe there is actually
(01:04:55):
something to the argument. But I'll tell you this, I
am actually I could see myself living in Europe for
a little bit. I don't know where. It probably wouldn't
be London. It absolutely wouldn't be Paris, I'll tell you
that much. I'd go to Germany. Honestly, I've been looking
at Italy. I've been looking at Italy. Would be here.
(01:05:19):
The only reason for me some my my grandfather was
born in Italy, which makes it I wouldn't say easy,
but easier for me to get a passport, okay, an
Italian passport, which makes that I mean, then you could
stay there for a year do whatever the hell I want.
They also have an ELF team, which I might have
to switch my team. We got the Milano Seamen, and
(01:05:41):
I mean I feel like I like some seamen sometime. Yeah,
they're good, good enough. I mean they didn't have a
very good record this year. I know I was going
for the Musketeers, but I think if I switched my allegiance, maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Maybe maybe their fortunes will change. You really, will you
ever know?
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
So? And I didn't make that whole statement just to
make the Milano joke. I think I might go, and
it would probably be it would probably be like five
years connection kind of like I gotta respond, I gotta
I was just telling you I gotta buy a new
air conditioning unit. So it's not like I got anything
going on, uh that where I could leave my house,
But I could see myself floating over there for like
(01:06:25):
three months at a time, getting an airbnb, coming back here,
I mean, working remotely, doing the things that I need
to do. I mean, I don't know, man, I don't know.
My freaking froze. No, you're good. So here's the thing,
and we'll leave this in too. This is the one
(01:06:46):
thing that I love about stream Yard well, you already
know the thing I hate. They don't have an audio
meter stream yard. What are you doing? The thing I
love because it has local recording. If you or I
freeze up, as long as we just keep going, it's
going to keep recording us and throw it in there.
So I'm and I'm gonna leave that in there too,
all right, all right, unless you're flailing around, I'm going
(01:07:08):
to go back to edit this year. Like I think
it is frozen, I might still leave it in too,
because that might be funny. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
I don't know what happened there, but you know is
what it is? Is this still part of the show.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
I mean, we'll find out. If it depends on how
late it takes me to edit, I'll pretend that we're
getting back into it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
Three, any other any other items you wanna you might
might have missed on your trip trips here? I know
you you a w event out there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
To I can't believe I didn't even talk. That was
like the whole reason we went, because we went not
just to a W we went to a W all
in all in and uh so I went with again.
I went with my wife, two friends of ours, one
of which is a wrestling fan, which I didn't know
how much of a wrestling fan. He was like, people
say they're a wrestling fan, that means they I liked
(01:08:05):
I liked Ulk Hogan. I don't know right, this guy
was actually a wrestling fan and he was into it.
His girlfriend, on the other hand, wanted no part of it,
and I didn't do We didn't get her there yet,
but I'm telling you we got it closer. And I'll
tell you so, WrestleMania is in Vegas this year. It's
also on my wife's birthday and my wife is from Vegas.
(01:08:28):
So we're going to Vegas to go to WrestleMania. Well
that's where the people we hung out with in Europe
they live in Vegas. So now we've got them going
to WrestleMania with us, and which this is I'm telling you,
this is what's gonna get her into wrestling. Going to
wrestle Khan not for the convention, yes, but they do
their own wrestling show and I get front row every
(01:08:50):
year and being that close and it's basically every guy
that's not in WWE. If it was a name you
heard before, they're probably there. And if you haven't heard them,
they're probably going to be in the best match of
the night. It's how It's always crazy how it works out,
because sometimes I'll look at the wrestle kan matchless I'm like,
who are half of these guys, And then we go
(01:09:11):
to the show, I'm like, that was the best match. Like, seriously,
some of the best wrestling I've ever seen is at
that damn Wrestle con show. And since you're up front,
right at the front row, they're like throwing people into
the rail and they're flying over you. It's amazing. That's
what's going to get on wrestling. But yeah, our big
thing is we couldn't make signs because the sign shop closed.
(01:09:33):
So they don't have like at least in London, they
don't have grocery stores like we do in the States
or like Walmart, like that doesn't exist. So like their
grocery store, you know what they sell, groceries, So finding
like poster board and marker was more difficult than I
thought it would be, and they were closed on Sunday.
Once I finally found out where they were at was
(01:09:54):
when the show was. If we can make signs, I
think she would have gotten into it. Hold everybody, I
said we watch, we're gonna do a sign exercise and
what I said, I'm gonna bring it up and she's
gonna say, oh, that sounds fun. And sure enough she
came and sat back at the table. I said, Hey,
here's what I'm thinking. Before we go to the show,
we all make signs. I'll get some poster board, I'll
(01:10:15):
get some markers, I'll get some glitter. And she's like, oh,
that sounds like fun and laughs of plenty, because I'm
telling you that's how you get them into wrestling. So
we're going we got another coat coming up in Vegas.
But all In was awesome because it wasn't just in London.
It was at Wembley, which is kind of like ild
me that yeah, bucket list item, bucket list item. How
(01:10:39):
big of a crowd was there? Man like fifty I
think fifty five thousand, that's yeah. It was pretty pretty
damn good and uh, the craziest thing to me, and
I thought for a second I was gonna have a
sad night. They have signs everywhere that you can't bring
beer to your seats, and I'm like, what he is?
(01:10:59):
It is this? I thought they drank a good paint
in England. And so I said to the security guy
because I had just bought, you know, four beers for
me and the people sitting down. Which that's another thing exact.
They let you buy four beers at a time. They
even have a deal for four beers for like twenty
eight pounds. I was like, hold on because in the States,
I don't know if you know, you can only buy two. Sure,
you're only supposed to buy two sometimes whatever, anyway, I know,
(01:11:22):
I know. Yeah, So they let me buy four. And
so I get to the thing, I'm like, well, wait what,
I can't bring him to my seat. What the hell
have I gotta do with these four beers? Right? So
I talk to the security guy. He's like, no, that's
only for the football games. And he's like they get rowdy, Okay,
all right, fair enough, I got youa so a little
mini heart attack there. But Sting showed up. That was awesome.
(01:11:45):
MJF match was good. I mean, the whole pay per
view was just pretty solid from beginning to end. Jeff Jarrett,
which is one of these guys that I don't think
it's mentioned enough when we talk about great wrestlers, but
he's always doing something and it's always in and you
might not see it, but Jeff Jarrett was there and
he got probably the biggest pop, the biggest cheers I've
(01:12:07):
ever hear heard him get. So that was kind of cool.
Jeff Jarrett again a little mini story, and this is
another reason I like wrestle Khan Russel Khan in twenty sixteen.
Twenty sixteen, we were staying in Dallas and my wife
was going to the bathroom from the wrestling show we
were at because they have the wrestling show in the
(01:12:28):
hotel that you stay at. Yeah, and she goes out
and she's like, Jeff Jarrett's at the bar. And so
next thing I know, she got a table next to
Jeff Jarrett and she's like, just meet me after the show.
There was like one match over left right, So we
sat down at the table. Within a couple drinks, we
started like shooting the shit with Jeff Jarrett. Next thing
you know, we closed down the bar with Jeff Jarrett.
(01:12:49):
No way, it was Jeff Jarrett. It gets funnier. And
so for wrestling fans you'll know why this is funny.
It was Jeff Jarrett. It was Marty Jeannetti. Now, Jack,
you won't know why that's funny. I'll give you one reason.
We won't dwell on it. But about a year after
this night that I partied with Marty Jeannetti, he went
on Facebook to say that if his daughter wasn't his daughter,
(01:13:12):
he would do things to her. So that's the kind
of guy, weirdo person that Marty Jeannette may or may
not be allegedly. I'm not gonna say it was or wasn't.
I don't want to get sued. But we had, like
Kevin ash was there for a quick but like all
of these names of wrestling, we're just stopping by because
it was Jeff Jared's table. Jeff Jared's wife was telling
him because he was like eating our chicken wings and
(01:13:34):
our snacks, and she's like, stop, that's their plate. I
said not. I mean that's Jeff Jarrett. He can eat
whatever the hell he wants. Now, I will say, and
I don't know if this is a coincidence. He no
longer drinks, my wife no longer drinks. And I mean
outside of that trip from London, I'm basically stopped drinking.
So I don't want to say it was that trip
because I have drink a little bit since then. But anyway,
(01:13:57):
Jeff Jared's a riot to party with. At least he
was back then, but he got the pop of his
lifetime in London. But yeah, I'm ready to go back
to Europe. I want to check out. I think what
I would like to do next is do like Italy,
Spain and Portugal maybe, or do like Germany Switzerland Italy,
like do like a little roundabout because again with that
(01:14:21):
rail system and the bullet train, yes, it took me
two hours to get from London to Paris. It's it's
im impressive. Man.
Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
I really hope that. I know there's projects in the
US that are trying to get off the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
I hope it keeps going from Houston to Dallas, which
I mean as an UFL fan. Think of how great
that would be is that we can get on and
ninety minutes later be in Dallas. I can A man
can dream? Sign me up, man can dream? Please? What
they've been talking about that since I moved here and
it's been seven years and they haven't done anything. So
hopefully one day we can. Only we can only hope,
(01:14:52):
is all I got to tell you. Anyway, So that's
a lot I think. Get I think that's about to
do it. Thanks for letting me know about the trip.
I honestly pull disclosure. Folks.
Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
That's the first time I gotten to ask about it.
So getting everything is great, And honestly, my advice, I
think both of us will say, is if you have
any chance to travel, take it, like, explore the world
a little bit. It's it's amazing what you can find outside,
not even just you're not even go across the cross
into a new country, just even in your back even
in your backyard, our country is amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Tons of funks go too.
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
So you know, go travel a bit, exploit the world. Really,
you don't know what you're gonna you're gonna find.
Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
This is what I love about us doing this show
because I may have gone to Birmingham, Alabama, but it
was never on like my list of places to go.
Now I'm telling my wife, like, we gotta go back,
because she's into the whole foodie scene. They talk about
places with amazing food. Birmingham, Alabama, to me, it's the
greatest small big city in America, and it's like a
(01:15:58):
big city that's not big, if that makes sense. The
fact that I parked across the Street from the stadium
for free is insane on game day. It is a
wonderful city.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
And no matter if we can go for Springstock or not,
I am dedicating a trip back this year absolutely because
I missed out last year and I was really disappointed
I didn't get to see some of my friends from
down there.
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
I have to go. So it's happening one way or another. Yeah.
But like you said, Zach, you should travel, do whatever
you can. And even if it's the same state, there's
got to be something you haven't seen before. Oh. Absolutely,
you know. And that's why I like about moving, like
you kind of get to explore. Now you get you've
been there, what almost two years, you're year and a
(01:16:44):
half plus. Yeah, tell you a good story.
Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Just went two weeks ago and I traveled four and
a half four hours up to the Petrified Forest.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
Yeah, isn't it cool?
Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
It's incredible. The and the thing is for Arizona. The
drive is part of the fun. Do it through the
mountains is is just you you can't describe without doing it.
Is wonderful little excursion to go. I will say my
Lunka Pass needs to improve because that's the same roughly
the same height above sea level as Denver, and now
(01:17:15):
I know exactly how that feels. So uh oh yeah, yeah.
I tried to hike like a quarter mile one way
and then realized, oh crap, this feels like I've already
worked out. Yeah, it was not for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
But what I would say, because you're probably pretty close
to South Mountain. Actually I don't know how close. You are.
Speaker 1 (01:17:34):
Not that far from South mounta if we're talking the valley,
it's not that far.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
Yeah. South Mountain to me was always like, my, ah,
I want to do an easier hike mountain. South Mountain
is great, and if you haven't done it, it's even
worth driving up to the top at night or as
the sunsets, Like if you find you know, hey, you
find a little chicky you want to do something with,
you know, take her up to the top of the mountain,
because what's really cool is you watch the sunset and
(01:17:59):
then you see all of the street lights from the
whole city come on at the same time. Yeah, it's
pretty flipping cool. It's pretty pretty gnarly.
Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
But even the hike they have, what I would say
is more lenient hikes. Now, if you really want to
torture yourself, go do the camelback Mountain because it's it's hell.
It's not that it's not that bad, but it ain't
great that South Mountain. I got that backpack.
Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
I am all freaking set, and I'll be honest, so
am I all set for what is to come for
the rest of this offseason, because I mean, shoot, man,
we're just getting started on signings. There's tons more to go.
I'll be crying out loud. I'm I mean waiting an
official word from ford Field, even though I think I'm
expecting it back. But you know, they are still negotiating.
(01:18:47):
If I'm talking my own fandom right right, There's a
lot of other stuff, coaching, coaching opportunities, like we haven't
heard anything from Memphis, which that's supposed to be soon
according to Yeah, according our own guy James Larsen, should
be sooner rather than later. It sounds like now it.
Speaker 2 (01:19:00):
Could be as early as today, the day that this
episode drops. Now, that would be a shame that I'll
be sad. I don't think they would drop it on
a Friday. Please don't drop it on a Friday. Emergency
pod inn't coming. But yeah, it could be. I mean,
we could be here next week talking on this show,
talking about the new head coach of the Memphis show Boats,
(01:19:21):
which I hope, So, I actually hope. So I think
that now that they drop this news about kickoff, even
if it's not major news every week or every other week,
I think it would be smart to start dropping just
dropping little pieces, little pieces that you're gonna have to
drop anyway. And you and this is what I said
to I think on our last episode, I expected things
(01:19:41):
to dry up news wise other than signings either going
to the NFL or getting recruited back to the UFL
or whatever it might be. But it's usually always around September,
mid to late September October when the ball starts rolling,
and then by the time we get to the end
of December January, by then we're all going to be
saying this is so much news. It's all common left
(01:20:03):
and right. And so I hope there's not a lot
of people that freak out, because, as we've seen before,
if they could pull it off last year, they could
pull it off this year. Now. Again, the hope is
that we have tickets on sale a little bit earlier.
With Houston, we're already there. Yeah, we're already there, right,
and some of the other locations already there. Michigan still
has a little bit of work to do. But if
they can get those tickets on sales still even by
(01:20:25):
the beginning of the year, that's not back. And you
basically have four months, right, because yeah, kickoffs in March,
but is basically April. Right, there's time.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
And I again, we've talked to this on length on
there as we're wrap it up that, you know, just
I like going back to Fortfield, but I digress. This
is a whole other show we can talk about later, folks.
It's just been so long. We're just glad to be
back with you. Consider us fully back into trying to
cover the swing of things. We'll try and give you
as consistent episodes as possible. Still is off season, but
(01:20:56):
uh hey, there's enough stuff to talk about. We're jumping
in on a show, and then you know next year
season four is back in these are well I guesse
season three? Wait, no, season four? Yeah, shoot, that's right,
we're still.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Back in season three. Season fours on the run. Well, yeah, well,
the fact that's what's even crazy. You're talking about season four,
the season four, that's even crazy. To hear think about. So, yeah,
January will be season four. But then Springstock four, think
at that zech y Springstock four. Yea, I'll tell you
that four. You know what they did. They had a
(01:21:30):
tournament for the championship belt. No, I don't know what
it was. The only WrestleMania that was on two VHS tapes.
The rest were only on one. So that must mean
that Springstock four is going to be bigger, better than
(01:21:51):
even this year that was bigger and better than ever before. Man,
there's so many options. With a three day week end
and three teams in Texas, that's all I'm saying. If
the schedule's right, we could have it really might be
bigger and better than ever before. Not that we would
do a show all three days, because I don't know.
(01:22:12):
I like to have fun too. But we'll be there,
we'll be doing stuff. But yeah, I'm glad to be
back on the show. I'm glad that news is coming in,
and I'm looking forward to the next episode and soon
enough and maybe even by the end of the year
here or it might be around the end of the
year or the beginning of next year, we'll be at
that hundred mark. We'll definitely hit it before the season starts.
(01:22:34):
So we're getting there. We're having fun, you're getting I'm
looking forward to it. Any final thoughts, Happy to be back.
Let's bring it in.
Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
One hundred episode is on the horizon. I can see
in our future. We're getting there.
Speaker 2 (01:22:50):
