Speaker 7 (02:00):
Time, So that one for wm OV and I'm down
at the Mason County Fairs. We are all all day
and all week and here with many with Mason County
commission President Rick Hanley, who serves pizza, serves ice cream,
kind of helps folks out here, Commissioner, great fair.
Speaker 8 (02:18):
Oh yes it sure is. It was a really nice
crowd last night. The temperature, the weather really cooperated with
everything that went on last night. Had a great little
Mister and Miss contest, had a great queen contest last night,
and just great to see everybody back out again here
at the Mason County Fair.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
Yeah, kind of a little bit of that Little Mister
contest and that one young fella he's saying it was
pretty funny.
Speaker 8 (02:42):
Yeah, they sing, they tell jokes. Sometimes the jokes are
really really funny, and sometimes they're just you gonna left
at the kids doing this, And I admire all those
little five, six, seven year old kids getting up there
and performing and just doing a great job. And it's
to be tough. I mean, it's rush to get up there.
It'd be tough time for you and I get up
(03:02):
here and answer the questions which you don't know what's coming.
But they do a wonderful job. And those who put
that on is should be admired for helping to bring
those little kids into the fair.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
My wife said, I explain it to me, and the
ither thing I could think of is kind of art
link letter but kind of on steroids.
Speaker 8 (03:21):
You never know what those kids are going to say,
as heart Lincolner would say, but it's a lot of fun.
I think they had thirty seven to compete, you know,
both Little Mystery and and Miss Mason County. So it
was a it was a great evening for them, and
that's you know, you get parents, you get brothers, sisters,
you get aunt cycles, you get grandparents, come in. Just
(03:42):
a good family time for everyone that attended last night.
Speaker 7 (03:46):
Now, the commission you all help the fair doctor.
Speaker 8 (03:48):
Yeah, this is our property here, and we allow the
fair Board to do what they want to up here
as far as bringing in you know, they're in charge
of everything, and we're so happy for the fair Board,
the junior fair here in a Mason County fair and
it's just a lot of cooperation between us.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
And then it's.
Speaker 7 (04:05):
Pretty amazing the number of campers are up there. I mean,
this is truly. I talked to one family yesterday and
it says, this is your vacation and it's like, yeah,
we get one week in Myrtle Beach and this is
their vacation.
Speaker 8 (04:16):
Yes, a lot of people do that, and especially those
who have animals. You know, if you live in the
southern part of the county, maybe at the northern end
of the county, you have a camper here, you have
your children, go out in the morning, feed you have them,
take care of them during the daytime, and you know,
you get ready for a show, then you go back
to your camper, take a shower, get ready and come
(04:38):
back out and perform again. As far as selling your
animals on Friday, Friday is the big day because Friday
is this is what the fair is all about for
age and FFA and these kids have earned money by
selling their animals and looking forward to being part of
that to sell on Friday.
Speaker 7 (04:54):
Now in terms of for you, did you used to
show animals you're a kid or did you come up
to the fair.
Speaker 8 (05:02):
I'm an old city boy and I had no idea
about taking care of animals besides dogs.
Speaker 9 (05:08):
But I do admire those.
Speaker 8 (05:10):
I hear a lot of stories from these kids about
you know, getting up early and taking the care of
the before they get up. During the summertime, you know,
you just can't sleep in late. You gotta get up
to take care of your animal. You gotta work your animal.
You gotta make sure that you can handle it in
the show ring come Friday, and it's it's just a
(05:30):
but not me. I love to watch. We love to
you know, buy animals and all the businesses or it's
great to have these businesses come out and support the
local four h and the f f A people. But
that's what it's all about.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
And uh, but no, not me.
Speaker 8 (05:45):
I love to watch them and I admire them for
them what they did, but uh, that's something I never
did take part in.
Speaker 7 (05:51):
In terms of the fair, what's your favorite part of
this fair?
Speaker 8 (05:54):
Seeing people? That's where everybody congregates. Uh, this this includes
the whole county. You get people from from all parts
of Mason County coming to the fair. You renew from
friendships that you haven't seen maybe since last year. There's
not a whole lot that brings everybody together, maybe except
from sporting events at times. But yeah, there's people that
(06:14):
I haven't seen for a while here and it's nice
to see, especially the older folks who'd like to come
here and just renew friendships from down through the years.
Talked to one a little while ago and he was
just tickled death to sit with his wife. They're in
their eighties and just to see the different people and
talk about you know, there is so and so, and
we used to see his mom and dad come here
(06:36):
all the time, and just again just a place to
come and hang out.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
Plus eat it is that I've noticed that. And it's
non calorie from when I understand fair food.
Speaker 8 (06:46):
No, no, we have the rotary ice cream booth and
it's a non calorie ice cream so you can eat
all you want now if you're come to the fair,
it's just a great place to get anything you want
to to eat. Again, we have pizza, have a different
vendors here for different things, Apple dump plans, you've got cheeseburgers,
you've got fishtails. You name whatever you want, you you'll
(07:08):
find it here. A to Mason County Fair.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
You can eat every day and eat something different. And
if you leave here hungry, at your own fault.
Speaker 9 (07:13):
It's your own fault.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yes, sir, all.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
Right, I'm Tom Sussman for WMOV Commissioner. Thank you very
much again. The Mason County Fair continues through Saturday. Sarah
Evans is on the stage on Friday. Animal sell is Friday.
We'll have it live on WMV starting at eleven o'clock.

Hello, it's Michael Been here with your look at sports,
brought to you by Main Street Furniture and Flooring in Middleport.
This year, the Glenville State football team will be playing
home games at various high schools as their new facility
is currently under construction. For more on the situation, I
talked to Pioneers head coach Mike Keller. This season, you
have the construction of the Morris Family Health and Fitness Complex,
(13:21):
So it's I'm sure changing your day to day. You're
playing home games at different sites. What's the message to
the team and just your thoughts about the future of
the facilities at Glenville.
Speaker 9 (13:31):
Well, the future couldn't be any brighter as far as
that goes.
Speaker 22 (13:34):
I mean, we're going to have a facility that, you know,
my opinion is going to be second to none, you know,
so you would like to think that I'll help you
with with your recruiting and the way your current team
carries itself from day to day. It's it's easy to
you know that it's easy to get the team to
care when you're showing them how much you know you care.
As far as this season, you know, it's a very
(13:55):
unique situation. You know, we're telling them that we're gonna
try to do something that no one, as far as
I know the history of the NCAA has ever tried
to do. And it's basically played eleven road games. And
I told him yesterday in the team meeting, was you
gotta be road warriors. You know, it doesn't matter where
you play, it matters how you play. And uh, that's
gonna be our message to our team. And uh, I'm
as interested. It's not like I could call anyone and say, hey,
(14:18):
the year you guys played all road games, how did
you guys handle that? You know, this is we are.
We are breaking ground with this one. So uh, I'm
excited about it. It's just gonna be different. And you know,
we got to play the cards that were dealt to us.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Talking to coach Mike Keller of Glenville State, last year
you finished on a five game winning streak. What clicked
around the midway mark? And how do you maybe try
to get off to a quicker start this year?
Speaker 9 (14:43):
Well?
Speaker 22 (14:44):
I think you know, you know, my first years here,
we started out really really well.
Speaker 9 (14:49):
You know, we started out hot, you know, one O
two and oh two and one three and three and
oh stuff like that. Uh.
Speaker 22 (14:54):
Last year, I thought the beginning of our schedule was
was quite frankly around the conference was really time off.
Lock Caven had a really good team. Henry and Henry
went on and two in the sack. I mean, those
were two really good squads for us. Then then you
know in the league, we opened up Farremont, Charleston, you know,
the teams that were the upper half teams in our league.
Speaker 9 (15:13):
So I think that was part of it a year ago.
You know, this year here, it's very similar.
Speaker 22 (15:18):
You know, as far as schedule goes, we did, we
did click and start playing well towards the second half
of the season. Really the first half, I mean there
were times in each of those games where you're like
you could see that that we.
Speaker 9 (15:30):
Had a really good football team.
Speaker 22 (15:32):
We just weren't, you know, just missed something here, missed
the block there, missed the tackle over here, bad playing
special teams here, missed the guy open air, gotcha.
Speaker 9 (15:41):
It was always just a little something in those first
couple of games.
Speaker 22 (15:43):
And then probably after a week four on, I thought
we played pretty well.
Speaker 9 (15:46):
Even in a couple of those losses, I thought we
played pretty well.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
That's Glennville State had football coach Mike Keller on the
Valley Today Sports Report brought to you by main Street
Furniture and Flooring in Middleports.
Speaker 23 (15:58):
This is this day in reds By with team historian

Speaker 24 (16:02):
In the summer of nineteen twenty seven, the media spotlight
focused on Charles Lindberg, the American pilot who became the
first to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The historic
flight came in May, and on his return to the US,
Lindbergh was a huge celebrity and in August, on this
August sixth, nineteen twenty seven, Lindbergh flew to Cincinnati to
(16:23):
be honored. And where did they hold the public rally
at the home of the Reds at Crosley Field, although
then it was still called Redland Field. Was there a
game that day? Well, nobody would have paid attention, so
they canceled it and played it the next day as
part of a doubleheader. A day at the ballpark for
hero Charles Lindberg. This August sixth, nineteen twenty seven. This

and dump their garbage in a site.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
It's fantastic. We're very pleased with it.
Speaker 14 (25:06):
The new center will be opened at seven am Wednesdays

Morrissey made the announcement earlier this afternoon. Ewing takes over
for Justice Beth Walker, who retired in June. You're listening

Speaker 17 (25:29):
When gods like me separate from the military, we tried
to move forward, but to truly move forward, we need
to take care of our bodies and our minds. I
finally understood that after I went to VA. I saw
the difference it made to have providers who understood what
I've been through and know how to help. I'm getting
the highest quality health care at the lowest cost, and
I'm telling every veteran I know that taking care of

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Do you give birth? We had a plant.
Speaker 33 (28:36):
We didn't do any of it, but that's pretty much
to a birth gals. I guess I'm running around with
masks and gloves on, and all of a sudden, in
one big bellow of a scream, I heard the baby cry.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Listen to Inside Appalachia every Saturday morning at eight on WMV.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
I'm Tom Susmen's for WV and it's the Valley today
and I'm at the Mason County Fair. There's a lot
going on and there are a number of various booths
that you can find over in the exhibit hall. And
instead of being outside with our truck. We decided to
come inside here because it's a lot cooler, despite the
fact that it's not very hot outside for fair season.
(29:21):
Can you tell me your name?
Speaker 15 (29:22):
My name is Josie Hill.
Speaker 7 (29:24):
Josie, you're with Mason County Right to Life.
Speaker 15 (29:26):
I am I'm one of the volunteers, and there are
many churches that actually volunteer. I'm part of Jackson Avenue
Baptist Church at Point Pleasant.
Speaker 7 (29:33):
I noticed yesterday I went, I stopped buying to talk
to someone. They said, well, they'll have somebody come talk
to me, and I guess you got you.
Speaker 15 (29:39):
I am the nominated one.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
Yes, the nominated one. Congratulations. But I looked on the
list and there are a number of churches that are
volunteering to staff the booth here at the fair ground. Correct,
what is your message to folks here at fairgrounds?
Speaker 15 (29:56):
The main message with Right to Life is first and
four most, no child should be aborted. Every child is
made in the image of God, and we firmly believe that.
And it's not so much of just even explaining that
abortion of any method, of any time during a pregnancy
is killing a baby. It's not even just that we
(30:17):
also do outreaches for expectant mothers by providing them things,
especially here at the fair. We have partnered with Babies
and Beyond in Point Pleasant, West Virginia too. Beyond Babies
and Beyond is a store that does supplies for infants,
toddlers and young children and it is clothes and supplies,
(30:38):
so that's strollers, cradles, whatever you can think of.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
And now do you all meet normally as a group
or how how does how does?
Speaker 11 (30:47):
How does?
Speaker 7 (30:47):
How do you coordinate?
Speaker 15 (30:49):
So we do have a coordinator and her name is
Denise Bonecutter and she is over Mason County Right to
Life and she does reach out to the churches to
see if they are able to come during the week
and be able to sit and talk with people as
well as speak with children, because we do want to
explain to the child you were the small at some
point and you still mattered at this point.
Speaker 7 (31:10):
I know that doll got Penson, who we interviewed quite regularly,
and the pastor at Grace Baptist Church, and I think
they've got to both that here he's relactive and right
to Life for the churches. Yeah, Now, are there any
I know that you all here at the fair and
are there activities that you all have planned for folks
if they wanted to get involved or how would they
(31:31):
get involved with well more.
Speaker 13 (31:32):
So with right to Life.
Speaker 15 (31:33):
It's just any time that you want to reach out
or find any sort of circumstance or any help. Most
churches in the area are also willing to help and
to just even coordinate for anybody in the community to
reach out and say, hey, I'm in need of this.
Speaker 13 (31:48):
There are churches.
Speaker 15 (31:49):
That have food drives, clothing drives, and we are able
to reach out to places in order to say, hey,
this person is in need. They have a infant that
doesn't have enough formula, does not have enough diapers, doesn't
have enough wipes, they need a new stroller, they need
a new car seat, and really anything to get involved
(32:11):
is first off, you have to have that take that
stand every child matters, born and unborn, and from then
on you just any method possible, whether it's here at
the fair or doing baby drives of any kind, or
even just sticking up in the community for those expected
mothers who may be unsure if they made the right decision,
(32:33):
to show that even if something was a mistake, that
baby matters and it is not that baby's fault.
Speaker 7 (32:39):
Now. You know, some would say that with the overturning
a roe V way that the problems solved. Is that
true or not.
Speaker 15 (32:46):
No, the uptick and abortions across not even just West Virginia,
but across the country has pretty much stayed the same.
But the ones that are considered unsafe for those that
are not clinical quote unquote clinical, have skyrocketed, and we
(33:07):
want to try and eliminate those as best we can.
And we recognize that some people do not agree that
the child in utero is just a clump of cells
that does not have a heartbeat, that does not have
brain waves, and those brain waves and heartbeats are detectable.
Keep in mind, I say detectable, not created, detectable as
early as nine to twelve weeks in utero. So we
(33:30):
want to make sure that all of these situations that
whether it was your choice or if you are a
victim of the very unfortunate circumstances, that you are not
alone that baby. Yes, it will remind you, but be
reminded that baby is in the image of God, that
it is not that baby's fault, and there are people
(33:51):
who are willing to help you raise that baby and
care for that baby.
Speaker 7 (33:55):
We really appreciate you stopping by today and you say,
but if you have questions or whatnot, reach out to
your church.
Speaker 15 (34:02):
Yes, reach out, reach out to the churches across Mason County.
And if anybody knows Denise Bonecutter, she is definitely the
woman's of contact because we all go through her and
she is an amazing coordinator for Mason County Right to Life.
Speaker 7 (34:16):
Well, listen, we really appreciate you joining us today on WMOV.
I'm Tom Susman for the Valley Today.
