Dr. Prather says that, "if you really want to lose weight properly and in a healthy way, you have to deal with the Endocrine System and Hormones—otherwise, it's just a waste of time."  In this episode, you'll discover:

—Why the body first tries to burn muscle instead of fat when someone starts to lose weight.
—How Estrogen-dominance (in both men and women) will cause you to put on fat.  And how fat is a hormone producer itself.
—The role of the Thyroid in controlling your metabolism.  And how Iodine helps you to lose weight because you need it to process fat.
—Why Dr. Prather will often tell patients it's not their fault that they haven't lost weight through diet or exercise because their hormones aren't going to let them.
—The reason Stress causes fat gain by producing Cortisol in your body.  And how"brown fat" is more difficult to lose and is "almost always" involved with Cortisol levels
—How you will have problems losing weight if you aren't sleeping well.  And the impact of blue screens on disrupting the Pineal Gland and your ability to sleep.
—Why Dr. Prather says that bioidentical hormones are  "the most unnatural you can possibly go, with a lot of unintended consequences".
—How getting the nervous system working correctly through Chiropractic makes "an immediate difference" in your hormones.  And how your Thyroid will not work correctly unless you get your Atlas set, "no matter what you do".
—The organized efforts to block the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services.  And how you can make your voice heard to support his nomination.
—Plus, we talk about our Free Holistic Integration seminar on Wednesday, January 29th at 6 p.m., "Gut Reboot: Holistic Care For Digestive Health".  And how you can get a 20% discount on all advanced diagnostics at Holistic Integration for the month of January.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Hi, I'm Lisa Praither and welcome to the Voice of
Health with our host, doctor Robert Praither of Holistic Integration,
where lives are changed every day through the natural approach
to healthcare. Well, today, doctor Praither, we're going to talk
about unlocking the secret how hormones impact weight loss. And

(00:33):
let's just start with how to hormones influence our metabolism
and fat storage.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Wow, that's a huge subject because it completely controls. So
it's interesting because your hormones will determine so you actually
have an image in your brain of what your body
should be okay, and it has certain hormones that can
actually override that. So, in other words, your body's kind

(01:02):
of locked in. It likes your fat percentage, it likes
your body prphology right, and it wants to keep it
that way. So one of the things that occurs when
you try to lose weight and you cut down your calories,
body isn't getting enough calories to kind of maintain things.
So it will first start to take away muscle before

(01:26):
it takes away fat, because it says, hey, this person
is starving. You know, it isn't getting enough food. But
let's save the fat for the end and let's kind
of use up some muscle. So oftentimes people will start
to lose weight and they go, oh, this is an
amazing diet, But if you actually check their fat percentage,

(01:48):
their fat percentage.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Is going up, and they're losing muscle, and they're.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Losing muscle, so that's one of the big things. And
then when you go off the diet, your muscle comes back,
but it's at a smaller in other words, the fat
percentage states, and then you actually get bigger than you
were before. So if you look at the diets, ninety
five percent of the people who go on a diet
will actually wind up having a higher fat percentage in

(02:15):
five years than if they never died it at all,
ninety five percent. So you lose the weight, but you
wind up in five years actually fatter than you would
have been if you had never done anything.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And less muscle mass.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Well, actually, the muscle mass usually comes back, but then
the fat percentage actually stay. So we actually have people
who even have because what we do is we don't
really look at your weight. We look at your fat percentage,
not your weight, and it's really the fat percentage that
determines the physiology that's associated with this. So the hormones

(02:51):
are one way, kind of a tweak way that you
can actually start to actually lose weight. That's what's nice
about it. And there's a whole of things. I mean,
the big thing that you think about is thyroid. So
thyroid controls your metabolism. You know how much thermogenesis you have,
how much you actually eat up. So if your thyroid

(03:11):
goes low, which most people are hypothyroid, then you're going
to have more fat percentage than you actually would. So
also then when you put on fat percentage, that's actually
the fat is like a hormone. It actually produces estrogen.
And then you have the balance between progesterone testosterone which

(03:33):
helped to lower your fat percentage, and then the estrogens
which actually increase it, so that if you are estrogen dominant,
you're going to put on fat. And then there's the
human choreyonic anatotrophin, which actually then can override the mechanism

(03:55):
of you losing fat instead of muscle.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
So that's the balance, and that's what we talk about.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Interracut Yeah, you got the adrenals if you're stressed, cortisol
level if you're really stressed. The body says, Ah, this
person's really under stressed, probably can't get enough food, so
there must be something you's stressed about. Let's put on
a whole bunch of fat to try to protect him
from whatever he's afraid of.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
That's the cortisol.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Cortisol, that's one of them. So it goes on and
on and on and though. Two things that actually control
the body and everything that's about you is your hormones
and your nervous system. And basically they're almost the same.
You know, the hormones are the chemical aspects. The nerves
are the electrical aspect of telling the body what to do.
So hormones. If you really want to lose weight properly

(04:45):
and healthy, you have to deal with the underconsistent and
the hormones. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Well, you talked a little bit. Let's talk about which
hormones are most commonly associated with weight gain or weight loss.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Thyroid, of course, is a big factor alone those lines.
Iodine plays a big role in thyroid function. One of
the things is that people who take like the medicines
if a thyroid don't see the kind of results that
they would like to that's because it's not a complete thyroid,
So there's a whole problem along those lines. Also the

(05:18):
iodine levels, so even when you're talking about thyroid, it
becomes a little complicated.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
So you said complete thyroide, what.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Did you Yeah, Well, you know you've got the lethotherroxin
and it's a synthetic type of thyroid that's supposed to
act on the body, but it doesn't completely act the
same as the real thyroid thyroxin. So you know, when
you're synthetic, it's a synthetic, so it's not going to
act the same like you don't get If you actually

(05:47):
get the right thyroid with the iodine and all the
different types of things that are involved in that you
need to you will see much more. Like one of
the things we do is is when people are on
thyroid medicine, which oftentimes they need to be, we actually
need to add some portions of the thyroid gland that
aren't there, So we also need to add iodine. We

(06:11):
also need to look at the copy's inchray show it
goes on and on and on. Yeah, so the hormones
are definitely complicated. Thyroid's probably one of the most important ones.
That you always think about. I mean, there's so many
people that we actually get to lose weight once we
get their thyroid actually working correctly. So that's a really
big type of thing that we look at. The adrenals

(06:33):
are involved with the stress factor, you have the hypothomis.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
And on and on and on right and I know
here at Holistic Integration we do a thorough blood work up,
the pre through profile and what are you looking for
that you know. As far as the thyroid, well, we actually.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Do a complete type of a thyroid tests. Most of
the doctors when they're checking it actually do like just
thyroid stimulating hormone. We do the entire thyroid. We do
the T three T four T three uptake to see
how it's responding the free thyroxine TSH. So it's a
much more complete type of a thyroid test and it

(07:12):
really tells us what's going on with the thyroid and
its function. Also, you're never really doing a complete thyroid
test if you don't do iodine.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
So you always do iodine.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
We always do the iodine.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
And you talk about here we're here in Indiana that
we have low iodine in our.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Soilure Iodine itself helps to lose weight. You need that
to be able to process fat. So you know, as
you're looking at the enderconsystem there's a tremendous amount involved
with it.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
So can imbalances in hormones like insulin, cortisol, and thyroid
hormones prevent weight loss even with diet and exercise.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yes, when you're talking about the blood sugars, how that's
actually controlled insulin resistance, there's one the glucagon like peptide
that's produced. Yeah, it's produced in the small and large
intestine will actually come up and stimulate the insulin production
so that you can actually get the glucose into the cells.

(08:11):
It also helps with the glucose resistance so that you
might have a barrier there. So you have to look
at that and be able to understand how that goes.
That's a whole other talk on insulin resistance. So you know,
looking at how that's all going. And one of the
big things we sit there and say, we've got to

(08:32):
get your hemoglobin A one see down, you know, your
glucose before you can actually really lose the weight that
you should.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Right, because you'll see people they're doing the diet, they're
doing the exercise and the weight's not coming off.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Yes, there's many reasons for that. And oftentimes I'll sit
there and I'll tell people, hey, you know, this isn't
really your fault that you haven't lost weight. Your hormones
aren't going to let you at this, So you need
to look at the whole intercom system and actually get
that balance out to be able to process it. Even
goes on more than that. There's the liver. There's all
sorts of things that are involved and getting the body

(09:08):
balanced and then being able to metabolically lose weight.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, yeah, makes sense. So how does stress related cortisol
affect our ability to lose weight?

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Well, cortisol one, it has an effect on the insulin levels,
so that there is the stress involved with that, you
will actually sit there and it will produce hormones that say, hey,
lay down fat. A matter of fact, brown fat is
almost always involved with cortisol levels.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
And let's talk about what is brown fat.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Round fat is fat and gut. So you have your
white fat is when you can actually pinch a whole lot.
Brown fat is when you actually have the larger and
stomach type of thing. So and the brown fat is
actually harder to get rid of than the white fat.
But that's basically a stress type of effect trying to
get that out of the gut. So you have to

(10:00):
take down the cortisol levels. You have to, and the
usually the adrenals are not working up to par. That's
why the cortisol's out of balance. And then so you
have to get the adrenals back up to par working
correctly to be able to control the cortisol levels. And
then cortisol has an effect on the hypothomus and on
and on and on, and it's all interrelated.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
I know, I hear you say. You know, if patients
people are waking up at three in the morning or
two in the morning's usually cortisol.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Yeah, the cortisol kind of comes out. And almost everybody
who's really stressed wakes up at three am in the morning.
That's because if you look at a cortisol ur intest
that's one, it usually spikes interesting, you know, kind of
come out. So, you know, looking at the adrenals getting
that down one. Adrenals have a huge amount to do
with sleep, sleep effects, hormones. Hormones effect your fat percentage,

(10:54):
So you're looking at a very you know, as I'm
explaining to people, you wonder why anybody can you know,
actually be balanced, right, because there are sixty four hormones
that are all interplaying with each other, and one affects
the other, and you know, it's sort of a whole cascade.
That's why it's so difficult to come in with an

(11:15):
outside type of a synthetic hormone and get the type
of reaction that you're looking for, because the body's like that,
what the heck is this? And if it's too close
that it can even cause more problems.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, we're going to talk later on about the products
we carry and our natural and help balance the body.
And yeah, I'll tell you when I have a full
night sleep, you know, the world looks totally different.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
It feels that it's a huge effect on the nervous
system and the hormones.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Right, and workouts better and all right, Well, we'ld be
right back talking about how are hormones and packway loss.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
We'll be right back.

the rapid release technology work on?

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Carporal tunnel, shoulder issues where you'd have restrictions even like
shoulder rotator, cuffy, problems with the pains in the elbow,
either golfer's elbow, tennis elbow all help out tremendously.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Neck pain, low back pain.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Headaches, extremely excellent for headaches, Yes, siatica, pureformist syndromes, scoliosis even.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah, and we've used it on TMJ EVENJ we have
that big mass that or muscle that we need to release.
Nat conditions planar fesci.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Itis to Patron's contraction.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Rappid release has five heads on it, so you can
use specifically. Smaller heads would be for someone you know.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
For smaller areas for the hand, type of problems along
those lines, any type of scar tissue post surgical trying
to get that back to where it needs to be.
Basically almost every type of muscular skeletal condition out there.
It's very versatile. Amazingly effective, and one of the greatest
things is safety. In other words, with the rapid release,
you're not going to make.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Something worse, right, and it's not painful. We've had quite
a few patients by and for themselves.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Oh yes, yeah, We've had several people who came into
our office and said that was the only thing that
really helped them, you know, of everything that they had
tried before, the dramatic changes along those lines.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah. And someone will say, well, I have this thumper
or a big massager at home. It's not the same thing, right,
not the same technology.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
No, it's not even trying to accomplish the same thing.

of Health with doctor Robert Prather of Holistic Integration, the

(16:06):
most comprehensive wellness center in the Midwest. So today we're
talking about unlocking the secret how hormones impact weight loss.
And we've talked about the importance here at Holistic Integration.
Instead of weight loss, we're looking more at fat loss.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Right, it's the fat percentage that's important. The reason fat
percentage is important is it changes the physiology. So fat
is actually a hormone producer. So if you have too
much of a fat percentage, it throws off the pH
It acidifies your body, so there's a change in the
pH which throws off all the chemical reactions. Also, fat percentage,

(16:49):
the higher it goes, it actually produces hormones that produce
more fat. So if it goes lower, it helps to
take that down. So it's actually a hormone producer in
of itself. So changes the physiology, changes the hormone balance
of the body, puts more stress on the heart, more toxins, etcetera, etcetera,
et cetera. So you have an ideal fat percentage really

(17:13):
that you should have and as opposed to BMI, that doesn't. Yeah,
it's just how much weight you have for your height.
And we have people who you know, have been show
up on BMI. A matter of fact, I've had patients
come in and say, yeah, my doctor says, I'm obese,
I work out all the time and they only have it.
They have like a ten percent body fat percentage, which

(17:34):
is actually very athletic. So you know, that's not a
good measurement. We have people who are actually what we
call skinny fat. They have no muscle. All they are is.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Fat, and it's brown fat. Usually no, it's actually white fat.
It's white fat oftentimes.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Yeah, and oftentimes it's women who don't eat a whole
lot and they want to keep their weight so that
they actually eat like a bird, but they have no muscle,
and so you know they have too high of a
fat percentage. So it's the fat percentage, not your weight,
that is critical to your health, and we're looking for
a balance on that. So anything that's over thirty percent

(18:15):
for a female as far as body fat percentage is obese,
which increases your cardiovascular possibility of type two diabetes cancer,
all those types of things increase dramatically as far as
once you hit that magic thirty percent. For males, it's
twenty five percent of fat percentage, so you know you're

(18:35):
really looking at that to see what's going on in
the system. Now, you can go too low on your
fat percentage. That's not healthy also because you need a
certain amount of fat, but maintaining that and trying to
get down like a male will want to be below
really healthy male will want to be below twenty percent.
Female should be below twenty five percent, so for real health.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
So that's that using a body impedance testing.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Body impedance and that's about within two percent of accuracy,
so it's it's a very good way to do it.
That's how they check it. Most places there are places
that you can get exactly but that's a lot more involved.
But we do check on that, and the BMI is
not really an accurate way to do it, so you
really want to see that to see what kind of

(19:24):
effect and then as you can take down that. Really
we're looking at taking down that body fat percentage, not
really just going for weight loss, like if I was
checking people on the lucagon, like peptide agonists like wago
vi and ma journal and ozembic. What we see is

(19:46):
that people's fat percentage are actually increasing as they're on it,
so you know, it's just the opposite of what you're
trying to do. They're getting skinnier, they're getting skinnier, but
their fat percentage is actually increasing, and it's the fat
percentage that makes them unhealthy. Now it helps with the
A one C can help with a lot of different
types of things, and for people who are more bigly obese,

(20:09):
it's better than baryatric surgery, and that's really what it
was approved for, you know, as far as at the beginning.
So there are times to actually use it, but it
is something that is way overused by the majority of
people who are using it shouldn't be using it. Yeah,
And really one of the reasons that people have so
much problems with weight loss is i'd said ninety five
percent of all weight loss regimens wind up with people fatter,

(20:32):
and so people are frustrated. They want to know what
they can do to help control their weight because they
know it causes cardiovascular disease, cancer, it causes type two diabetes.
And then we also have a body image. You know,
you want to look beautiful, so trying to get that
type of thing and look attractive. So I understand why
people are looking for easy answers, but there aren't easy answers.

(20:56):
And one of the things, of course, is just the
terrible toxins that we have in our system. And we
have a lot of different types of chemicals that actually
imitate hormones in our body that are in our food supply,
so you know, it's really stacking up against people.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
Yeah, but it's so interesting because when you do the
blood work and you're looking at these hormones and through
natural means and natural products balancing that people start losing
the body fat. Right, you know, it becomes so much easier,
so much your body's healthy, because that's the goal is

(21:32):
to be healthy.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Sure. Like one of the things is that the hormones
control thermogenesis. And it's interesting because once you go above
so like if you, as a woman had a twenty
percent body fat percentage and you ate a meal, you
would increase your thermogenesis by about seventy five percent. That's

(21:55):
a normal type of reaction, so you burn up what
you take yet, which is what you're to do. If
you're above thirty percent, you're only talking about a twenty
to twenty five percent increase in your thermogenesis.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
It slows down, and if you're forty percent, it's zero
wow when you eat, And so you can see where
that's the problem because then in other words, obesity leads
to obesity.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
It becomes a vicious cycle. So you can do some
cheets on that because you can give things to actually
increase the thermogenesis through the hormones, get that balance out,
and then you can actually start to increase that thermogenesis
to actually burn the fat.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
You're talking about certain products.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yeah, certain differ Yeah, yeah, especially working on the indercon system. Yeah,
you know, thyroidor is a key. Adrenals are the key,
are a big key. Hypothomis Well, let's talking about all
those things.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
The role the sex hormones play. You talked a little
bit estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, how did they play in
weight management across you know, different life stages too.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
You have if menimaus if you are for a male,
if you have higher than a twenty five percent, and
if you have or female with higher than thirty percent
your estrogen, you're going to be estrogen dominant just because
the fat percentage is going to create estrogen.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
So both men and women, for both.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Men and women, okay, so you become a more estrogen dominant.
Estrogen dominance goes along with fat. If you're fat, you're
estrogen dominant. If your esg dominant, you become fat. And
if that cycle continues, it continues to grow and grow
and grow. So getting your testosterone up is a critical
type of thing to be able to get that down

(23:39):
and the progesterone and then actually take the estrogen down.
And you can do that naturally. One of the big
things that we use is glandulars, and glandulars can stimulate
the body's own production. You can also do you know,
the shots and then the biodentical type hormones. But you
don't get the same effect as if you're doing it

(24:00):
naturally and you become dependent upon them, because then your
body stops making those right on its own, right, so
then you have to keep up with it, and then
it has other effects like we can see the insist
In other words, doing it naturally is obviously always the
best way to do it.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Yeah, And we don't do the hormone replacement therapy here
at Holistic Integration. We do more of a natural approach. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Yeah, the glandulars are a big thing. Getting the nutrients right,
Copper zinc ratio effects the hormones. It goes on and
on and on. There's a lot involved in it.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Yes, let's talk about how does hormonal fluctuations, you know,
during menopause effect weight distribution and that retention. I've experienced this.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Well. I mean, you know when you start to go
into menopause or malopause, either one, because both of them
kind of happen.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
In another way talk about mail pause.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Yeah, there is definitely something like that where the testos
room drops on males. Yeah, you know that's when they
kind of put on the weight and change and become
drope and all those types of things. Yeah, it is
a change in the hormone balance. You know, the hormones
of youth no longer there. And it also happens during
menopause for women, but it starts to occur even before that.

(25:16):
You know, where the hormones the inconsistent, the hormone balance
starts to change, and that's one of the things that
can happen. But you can fight against them, but it
takes a lot more effort. As you it was like
up until the age of forty five, I could eat anything,
do anything, and never put on a pound. After forty five,
it was just like a magic number for me.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Yeah, yeah, you remember that, well for me too. Yeah,
so you don't even remember my forties. You're busy with
You're busy.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
You're busy. Yeah, so you know, trying to keep that
balance up and you have to check it to see,
you know, what's actually going on. And then you also
have the balance of the estrogen proges and testosterone and
that affects the thyroid conversion into usable thyroid, So you know,
there's an interplay on that. So even if you have

(26:10):
normal thyroid levels, it may not be converting into the
metabol it may not be used because of your androgen
hormones are out of balance. So getting that whole thing
balanced out is critical. And there, you know, it's something
that we check on on everybody, and as we do that,
we can actually see. The thing that I like about

(26:32):
what we do is we know what the problem is
and we know if we're fixing it right. And then
we sit there and say, you're going to start to
see results now, right, because up until now you're just
wasting your time.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
And it's an affordable test, you know, for people to
check and important to do.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Yeah, and you have to get your hormones balanced really
before you start a weight loss program, because otherwise you're
just spinning your wheels.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Yeah. Balanced. You know, I had a twenty some year
old say, well, why should I get my hormones check?
You know, we're seeing males in their twenties with lower
testosterone than we've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Yeah, we're seeing a lot more in balance than when
I was actually a kid.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
And if they already have low testosterone or the imbalances
in their twenties, what's going to happen in their thirties
and forties? So more on how hormones and packweight loss
will be right back listen to the Voice of Health

(31:19):
with doctor Robert Prather of Holistic Integration, where we get
to the root cause of your health issue. We're talking
about unlocking the secret how hormones impact weight loss and
doctor Prayther, let's talk about the relationship between sleep hormones
like melatonin and weight loss.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Well, if you aren't sleeping well, then that actually puts
on weight. So basically the pineal is what regulates that
pineal gland pineal gland. So one of the things is
a lot of people look at their phone before they
go to bed or do screens, and blue screens actually

(32:02):
throw off the pineal gland, which gets your circadian rhythm going.
And the more you can follow a proper circadian rhythm
as far as on your sleep pattern, the more weight
you lose. So if you're not sleeping well, then you're
going to have problems with your ability to lose weight.

(32:23):
In matter of fact, they've shown that if you have
disturbed sleep, don't get into that type of sleep where
it actually heals and regenerates the endercon system and the hormones.
Then you're naturally going to put on weight without any
change in your calories. So looking at your sleep, making
sure that you're good, you know, kind of measuring it.

(32:44):
They have a lot of ways to measure your sleep.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Now, Yeah, we have a sleep number, bend.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Right, sleep studies, all that type of thing. It's going
to affect your weight. So, and the pineal is actually
one of the keys along those lines. And we have
a lot of ways of working with the pineal melatonin
as that's just one of the hormones that's produced by that.
But we also actually give pineal glandulars that has all

(33:10):
the different things that is some of the things that
we don't even know that the pineal is doing. We
also have homeopathics for the pineal gland, so we have
those types of things. Then also we have different types
of herbs. Chest tree I know, actually helps out with that.
That's one of the herbs that so we have a
lot of ways of working with the body's ability to

(33:33):
go into a better sleep, and the pineal gland kind
of controls everything else. It's kind of the master gland.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yeah, and how does that affect sleep? Without getting too scientific,
but it's just interesting. I know that in my own life.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
You know, well it's considered like the third eye. You know,
they talk about opening up your spiritual eye and everything
like that. But the pineal gland can sense sunlight.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Oh okay.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
So one of the problems that we have is we
aren't out in the sun like we're supposed to be,
and that helps to regulate it. So again, another aspect
of sunshine is it helps to regulate the pineal gland.
So if we're you know, don't have that that type
of thing where we have the blue lights going, it

(34:23):
throws off the pineal gland. You know, our lifestyle and
how we live. There's a lot of things. So making
sure that the room is dark because that kind of
tells the pineal gland, hey, go to sleep.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Mm hmm. Yeah, the room darkening, yeah, is important. And
we you know, we're not going to see the sun
for the next couple months at least it seems that way.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Yeah, it's kind of hard to get any sunshine. But
one of the things, like depression has a lot to
do with it. My depression causes it in the pineal
gland and so you know you have a little light
the sunlight.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Type thing yeah my desk when I work.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Yeah, yeah, so you can do that type of thing
that actually helps out quoese. Yes it does, you know,
kind of gets you over that sad type of you know,
without the sun that kind of hits a lot of
people right right.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
And what I'd like what we do at our office
at Holistic Integration too, you know after the lab test
and again we're looking a thyroid panel is part of
our lab. Yeah, and what does it all include and
the thyroid because I know sometimes patients will bring in
other labs and it's not thorough enough.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Yes, you know, you need to hit all the different
types of aspects. So it's just like we had one
patient the thyroid was actually working well, but the thyroid
stimulating hormone which is from the pituitary, was high. But
it was having to do with the androgenic hormones and
the balance on there. So we're not just looking at

(35:51):
the thyroid numbers, but we're looking at how the other
hormones are affecting the thyroid, which we can actually do
through a T three update. So very very and very
few people. Actually a matter of fact, indocinologists were like,
why are you doing that? We don't do that anymore,
and it's because it's dictated by the pharmaceutical companies. Yeah,
you see what I'm saying. So, you know, we go

(36:13):
beyond that and look at how that's working. And of
course you also have to look at the iodine. As
I mentioned earlier, you're never going to really get the
full benefit of the thyroid if the iodine levels aren't
up to part right.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
So hence holistic integration.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Right, Holistic we're looking at all the different steps of
how the thyroid works, and it's actually much more complete
than I've ever seen even an endocinologist do.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
So, yeah, let's talk about hormone replacement therapy, and that's
something we do not do at holistic integration. You want
to talk a little bit about that.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Sure, So the body is the way that hormones work.
The best is if the body's regulating them, and you
get the body's own regulation going, so you have different
levels of interference. Like what we do is we give
the body the necessary type of ingredients to stimulate it

(37:10):
to work, and then it starts to work in that
type of you know, in a natural type of way
builds it. It's not quick, but once you've got it,
you've got it right, you know. In other words, the
body's working now. Like if we're trying to raise a
man's testosterone or a woman's testosterone. We give the things
to build a testosterone, and once it's working, you're making
your own testosterone and it can regulate it much much

(37:34):
better and it's much healthier for you. You can actually
take pharmaceuticals you know as your premar and and different
things like that, and basically what you're doing is they
kind of override the body, but they decided not to
make them exactly the same because they still want some
body regulation. Then you have biodentical, which completely fools the

(37:57):
body into thinking that that's the hormones I produce, and
so there's a lot of effects on that that can
be unintended. You have to really watch it to get
everything balanced because you can throw things off.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
Really watch labs, really.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Watch the labs, really monitor it extremely closely to and
it's a constant type of thing of balancing. When you're
talking about damage that's done. The way that we do it,
we decrease the chances of any type of cancers that
can develop problems from it. In other words, the things
that we do can't hurt you, It can only help you.

(38:32):
The hormones, the pharmaceutical hormones do increase your chances of
breast cancer and other different types of cancers in the
body if you are taking them. If you are taking
biodentical the risk of cancer goes right through the roof.
Matter of fact, they had stopped the study because there
was so much cancer that was being produced. And I've

(38:53):
taken care of a lot of people who have developed
cancer after taking biodentical hormones. That's something that I see
on a regular basis, and I can actually see that
there's a lot of problems that occur from that because
you're overwriting the body's own regulation and it's throwing off
the hormones. Now you feel great, right, But long term

(39:16):
it also shuts down your own body's production, so you're
dependent upon them at that point.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
But you can feel great, you know, I mean there's
a lot of times replacement. I'm sixty two. I had
one hot flash and you told me I had better
take care of it.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Yep, it better not happen again. Yeah, right, right, yeah, yeah,
I have a lot of motivation.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
So it's not you know, there are other options and
natural options. Sure, I think some people think this is natural.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Yes, that's the thing. Well I'm taking while i'm taking natural,
I'm taking biodentical, and I'm like, no, that's not that's
further that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's anything. But that's
the most un natural that you can possibly go mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
A lot of unintended consequences with that, right, And we're
really not that smart enough to be able to regulate
the hormones because it's kind of all over the place.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Yeah, right, they're always changing.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Moving, always changing moving.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
I love that you said we're not smart enough, you know,
I mean who created our bodies?

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Right, Yeah, we're not there yet. So about maybe someday
we will be uh huh, you know where we can
completely override and do it safely, But at this point
we can't.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Right, all right, when we'd come back, we're going to
talk about lifestyle changes and that you can help regulate
your hormones. We'll be right back. Never miss an episode

Robert Preyther. As we step into twenty twenty five, now

(41:18):
is the perfect time to reset and take charge of
your health. This month, Holistic Integration is making it easier
than ever to help you kick start your journey to wellness.
For the month of January, Holistic Integration is offering twenty
percent off our advanced diagnostics. Whether it's the prey their Profile, bloodwork,
food sensitivity testing, or our gut zoomer Gi test, Holistic

(41:42):
Integration Diagnostics get to the root cause of your health
issues and offer a personalized blueprint to your health.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
There are certain a diagnostic tests that different people should
be taking, but what does everyone need at least on
an annual basis? And I'm talking about from a baby
to one hundred and five that everyone needs We have
three tests that we talk about. Our blood test with
the year analysis is something whenever you come in for
your annual exam that you should have a nice, thorough

(42:11):
one that's recommended by every single healthcare provider, insurance, hospitals,
all the doctor groups all recommend that. But I'd also
throw in there a care analysis and I would also
throw in a GI stoolkit as things that everyone should
be having on an annual basis, just to get the

(42:32):
basics of how your health is going and give a
synopsis of what's happening and what should be done.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
What is the prey through profile? What does it include?

Speaker 2 (42:41):
When I first started to practice, i'd come up with
a panel on blood work because when I was going
through the lab tests that they were offering me, the
panels weren't thorough enough. It wasn't anything that I considered
up to part. So I designed out a panel, and
then I went to the labs and said, hey, could

(43:02):
you bundle this and make it cheaper for my patients
because this is the standard of what I would like
to get. So the Preaker profile is now in all
the major national labs as one of the profiles that
they offer. But it really covers anything from A to
Z that could be off, and so it gives you
a good basis of where to start and then you

(43:23):
can branch out from there. It really leaves no stone untouched.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Well, let's talk about the gi still kit, the gut zoomer.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
That is absolutely the most important thing. I won't treat
somebody with inflammatory bowel disease without one. All autoimmune diseases,
we have to find out what's going on in the
gun because eighty percent of all autoimmune diseases start in
the gun. You need to know what's going on infection wise,
which that tells you. It also tells you the inflammatory

(43:52):
process that's going on, how great it is. It tells
me the gut flora, what's happening, how the pancreatic enzymes
are working, how the bile flows going, and all the
different types of things that I need to fix about infections, infections,
all the different types of infections. Tells us exactly what's
going on bacterial and as we work with that, it's

(44:14):
just the blueprint for the gut. If you don't want
diagnostics done, don't come to me, because if I don't know,
I can't fix your problem. You know, as people who
are serious about actually getting well, who really want to
get their problems solved, understand the true reasons for their
problems with their health and want to get better. And

(44:36):
those are the patients that I'm looking for. And we
are more thorough and do a lot more diagnostics than
probably any place you've ever been. Yeah, because we have
people who've been to Mayo Cleveland, John Hopkins, and we
get them after they've already been there and figure out
what their problem is, even when those institutions, which are amazing,

(44:57):
didn't figure it out.

Speaker 1 (44:58):
Schedule your appointment at Holistic Integration and make the most
of our twenty percent discount on all lab tests for
the month of January. Three one seven eight four eight
eighty forty eight. That's three one seven eight four eight
eighty forty eight. Stop. Really, you're listening to the Voice

(45:26):
of Health with doctor Robert Prather of Holistic Integration, where
our mission is restoring hope to our patients. Talking today
about unlocking the secret how hormones impact weight loss and
doctor Pray there, let's talk about the lifestyle changes that
can happen to regulate hormones and you know, to make

(45:47):
weight loss easier.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
It's just you know all the things your mamma told you.
You know, you eat right, cut down on the sugar
because that that will change your hormonal balance. Yeah, sugar
increase your fiber, which makes a big deal diference. We
had talked about how important that is. Get your sleep, exercise,
exercise cures. If you can do exercise and within five minutes,

(46:12):
your endercin balance changes. Wow. As you do it, within
five minutes, it starts to the insulin starts to work better.
You're actually releasing good hormones. It's cutting down on the cortisol.
You're just kind of balancing out your whole system. We
were made to move, we were made to exercise. And
if you get your exercise, your sleep, eat right, eat

(46:35):
it at certain times, and be happy. It's amazing how
much like One of the big things is people like laughter. Yes,
laughter is a very important part of regulating your hormones.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
Laughter is the best medicine.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
Holding a baby, you get your baby fix.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
I'm actually doing that once a week.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
Now, so all the gals want to grab a hold
of the baby. Whenever somebody and a patient brings them
into the office. It actually increases the oxytocin which reduces
their cortisolts. So it's a feel good type of thing.
Nature getting out in nature. We are made to be
out in nature. Being in a cubicle is not really

(47:18):
that great for us. So nature getting out and doing
all those types of things. And men, if they're married,
live longer. So if you have relationships, relationships, Yeah, women
can do without men as long as they've got you know,
other women to talk to. Doesn't really change their you know,
their length of life. But for men, they live a

(47:40):
lot longer if you're married. So having all those types
of things. Having community, we need our social interaction. If
you go to church, people who go to church have
less pain, less depression, and you know, having a community
of believers is something that makes a big difference in

(48:01):
one's life.

Speaker 1 (48:02):
Yeah, we're part of a small group from church and
we meet twice a month, and I really look forward
to that time. I just feel and I might go
into it feeling, you know, I don't have anything to give,
or you know, I'm I'm spent. We both you know,
and we're done. We leave and we.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
Were filled up, we're refreshed, yes, uh huh.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
And you're an introvert, you know, I am me, it's
easy to understand.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
Are you an extrovert? I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (48:33):
Are you surprised? Yeah, you're an introvert until you we
ask you a question that you this is funny. You
want to talk about the underwater basket weavy.

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Nobody.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
Someone was trying to stump you to see if there's
something you don't know about, and they go, okay, doctor Praither,
what about underwater basket weavy? And ten seconds went by,
and then you gave the whole history where that term
came from only my husband.

Speaker 2 (49:07):
I'm glad you like me.

Speaker 1 (49:08):
Yeah, anyway, keep me entertained. So when somebody comes into
holistic integration. You know the diagnostics we don't check the hormones.
Is the prey through profile very affordable blood work that's
very thorough, and you're checking the hormones any other diagnostics
that you do.

Speaker 2 (49:28):
Par analysis is very important because you have the copper's
inc ratio calcium magnesia ratio and that has a huge
effect on the hormones. So looking at the minerals makes
a very big difference of the gut. You know, you
have a lot of hormones that are being made in
the gut, and we were just talking about the glucagon

(49:49):
like peptides and how much that makes a difference on
the whole system and how it works. So the gut
is a big type of a aspect of it. Matter
of fact, we have all the different areas that the
different balances of the you know, the bacteria in the
gut actually will influence. And we can actually see everyone

(50:09):
who has trouble with their hormone shows up that there's
an imbalance in the gut. Right, it's involved with it.
So you really can't fix the hormones without looking at
the gut.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Right, Well, let's talk about services that we provided holistic
integration to help with the hormones. Talked about supplementation certainly.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Yeah, you know you've got the herbels, you've got homeopathics,
we have the nusisceuticals, we have the glandulars, all those
types of things that actually help. And then we also
have chiropractic. Chiropractic makes a when you're talking about the
endercan system. The thing that actually even controls the hormones,

(50:48):
because the hormones is a controlling factor of the body
is the nervous system. So when we get the nervous
system working correctly through the chiropractic, it makes an immediate
difference in how well everything's working. Like your thyroid's not
going to work correctly unless you get your Atlas set
no matter what you do. And we see definite changes

(51:09):
just by putting the Atlas in place on the thyroid hormones.
So you know, there's that whole aspect of the chiropractic.
Different types of adjustments effect different the adrenals, all those
different types of things. And you know, even back when
I was in school and just doing the chiropractic, women
would sit there and say, after they got adjusted, my

(51:30):
mental period was all normal, you know, everything balanced out.
That that makes such a huge difference. So you know,
the nervous system really is a big key along those lines.
The other thing that you look at is acupuncture.

Speaker 1 (51:46):
Yeah, that really helps me.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
Oh yeah, you know people, you know, we were talking
about sleep. I had a lot of people come in
who were having problems with their sleep and we did
acupuncture on them. Men said, now, you know, just we'll
just lay down and you know, by the time they
come back there snoring. Yeah, and they haven't been able
to sleep for a long time. Yeah, And it starts

(52:10):
to make a huge difference. So you know, on and
on and on along those lines. We have so many things.

Speaker 1 (52:15):
Well, I want to make sure that we spend we
have a couple minutes because we want to talk about
something urgent regarding Robert Kennedy. Go ahead, and then I'll
tell people where you can go. There's a link on
our website at the Voice of Health Radio. But yeah,
go ahead.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
So Robert Kennedy Junior is coming up for confirmation for
becoming health Secretary in the United States, and so he
would be able to have a big influence on how
our health actually runs. And he's probably the most qualified
person in the entire world for that position. He's very smart,
very well learned, and knows what to do to actually

(52:52):
fix our healthcare system and our food supply and the
pharmaceutical companies, the chemical company, and he's all the bad people.
Then also, they've gotten the medical doctors to write into
their senators to opposing So there's this whole campaign of
the people who are poisoning us, on keeping us poisoned,

(53:15):
and so we really need to respond on that and
actually stand up and show our senators that we actually
want to be healthy.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
And I want to make sure there's so much bad
press out there. Yeah, you know, saying he's an anti vaxer.
He's not an anti vaxxer.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
He just wants to He was involved in making the MMR,
and after he was involved in that, the number of
injuries from the MMR dropped by ninety percent. So he
wants to cut down on the injuries and make the
vaccines safer and more effective, and to do studies on
it because they haven't done the clinical studies. And we're

(53:56):
talking about our children here. He wants to protect the children, right.

Speaker 1 (54:00):
So you can go to our link on our website,
the Voice of Health radio dot com. You can send
a quick message to your senator asking them to confirm
Robert Kennedy. It's important to make your voice heard. Holistic
Integration is located at eighty nine oh two North Meridian
Street on the north side of Indianapolis, just south of

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
