Speaker 1 (00:12):
Hi, I'm Lisa Praither and welcome to the Voice of
Health with our host, doctor Robert Praither of Holistic Integration,
where lives are changed every day through the natural approach
to healthcare. Today we're talking about tips for a healthy
holiday season, very important. We're in the midst of a
holiday season and we tend to see increased stress. Unfortunately,
(00:38):
it's not supposed to be about that.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
But everybody's sick right now, uh huh. So you know,
most of my patients are coming in with some kind
of virus or something going on. So this is a
stressful time of the year. One, we don't have as
much sunshine. We're all trying to get used to the
new cold weather.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
It's dark by four thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, yeah, So you know, all those things do play
a big role. The vitamin D level is dropping rapidly
in people, so you know, that's one thing that people
need to be aware of. And then also we have,
you know, changes in our behavior. You know, we're eating more,
parting more, drinking more, and probably a lot more stress
(01:22):
for most people trying to get everything.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
All done, getting a lot less and that's.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
That's not a good combination for your health. So what
do we do to get healthy and stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's what we're going to talk about today. Oh excellent,
So first thing, washing hands, Yes, washing our hands. Let's
talk about that. Washing hands often helps prevent spread of germs.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Correct, correct, That's one of the big things is it's
just very, very easy to spread germs. So if one
person you know, kind of gets sick and they sneeze,
that sneeze will go about twenty five feet and all
it takes this one water drop in the right place
and you're sick. So just being aware of health standards,
(02:08):
you know, cover up if you're going to sneeze.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeap in that elbow, elbow crease. That's what I just
did it.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
That's right. I think everybody saw that, right, But you know,
it is something to be aware of. Now is the
time that you're going to spread germs, especially if you're
in large groups you know, of people. One of the
easiest ways is that it gets on the hands, you
rub your eyes, or you rub your nose, or get
(02:34):
in contact with food and then you can get that
virus in your system. So just making sure that you
have proper sanitation, that you're aware of other people and
trying to avoid one catching infections and two also avoid
spreading infections, and just having that awareness can really help out.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah. Next is bundle up to stay dry and warm.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yes it is.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
I love my new winter coat goes all the way
down to the ankles.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh, very perfect, Very well. You know, the stresses on
the body weakens the immune system. So the more stresses
that you have on your system, and the cold is
a definite stress. So staying nice and warm. I think
one of the things that you said several nights that
you know, I'm a little chilled. Yeah, I'm going to
(03:26):
take a bath and a nice absence at bath. Yes,
and that's just a very nice type of thing, keeping
your body as relaxed and as warm as possible, and
that really will help out just to avoid the weakening
of the immune system when you have that cold. I
mean people are out there putting up lights on Christmas trees.
(03:48):
You know that, you're out shoveling sidewalks.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Not yet well.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
You know all those right, So you're seeing people doing
all those different types of things and just trying to
stay warm. Bundle up, make sure that you aren't getting
yourself chilled, because it is absolutely true, you get chilled,
then that's a sign that your body needs to get
warmed up. And the immune system always works better if
(04:16):
you're nice and warm.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
I like to be warm good. I probably take a
bath every night. And they have lavender apps and salt
now excellent, Yeah, which is great. Manage stress, Well, that's
easier said than done, especially during this time. How do
we do that, doctor Praither?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Well, I've told several patients that you know, I can
tell that you're a little stressed as I'm checking them.
It's very obvious because you can feel certain muscles go
into spasm. And I told them I'm going to write
them a script not to get stressed anymore, and I
expect them to fill it, and of course they all laugh.
(04:56):
But again, managing stress, knowing what you know, finding out
way of cutting down on your stress. You know how
many people you shop for, what you have to get ready,
asking for help, you know things that are going on.
Of course, one of the things that can be real
stressful is just family relationships. You know, you're seeing people
(05:17):
that you probably haven't seen for a while, and just
making sure that you try to keep a positive attitude
even as you're going around from people to people. There
is a difference in your immune system if you frown
or if you smile.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Ah, so tell me more about that.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
They have proven that if people practice smiling on a
regular basis, it actually boosts the immune system. And if
you're frowning and you are stressed, even on your face,
then they'll actually weaken the immune system. So, you know,
keep a smile on your face, give people a lot
of grace.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Right now, and yourself.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
And yourself, laugh at yourself and laugh with others. You know,
we're all human and not to expect superhuman results just
because it's Christmas.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
But what about the Hallmark channel? You mean her lives
aren't like the Hallmark channel.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
No, no, I don't watch Hallmark channels. No no, I
avoid that. But that could be something for some people.
Kind of a stress you know, and finding those stress
releases also right now? Is that a really good thing.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Massage is really important, and we're offering gift certificates here
at I don't know what I do without my massages.
I get two a month. I got one on Monday,
coming off the weekend, and just very helpful to decrease stress.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
That's a really, really excellent type of thing. So you know,
coming in getting your massages is a really excellent way.
A lot of people. A lot of my patients actually
even like acupuncture more than massages that they actually have
more relaxation with. And people that funny, you know that
you even stick needles in somebody and it relaxes you.
(07:06):
But interesting story with acupuncture. I had a law student
come in and he was studying for the boards, and
he said he had read online that to help with
focus and relaxation to do acupuncture, that some people had
actually because he was looking for different types of things
because a lot of his friends were doing add or
off for concentration, all those different types of things instead
(07:29):
of going pharmaceutical or drinking or those types of things.
He sat there and said, I want to give acupuncture
a try. And drinking drinking, you know as a relaxation
or drugs or other things. You know, what can I
do besides the pharmaceutical route. So we went ahead and
did the acupuncture, and he hadn't been sleeping very well anyway,
(07:51):
He fell asleep during the treatment, got up and he says, wow,
I feel really really better. So he said, you know
that he's i'd better. He I was able to concentrate,
and pretty soon I had ten law students who are
taking the boards who were all of a sudden in
my office wanting to get acupuncture. So thinking about those
(08:11):
different types of things, it can be really helpful.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Right, And those gift certificates will be you know, a.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Great oh that's a yeah, a great Christmas present for
you know, to get their stress down.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Why was that a friend's yesterday and we were talking
about Christmas and she's written a book called Compose Your Soul,
and she said, this year, by now, she's got a
ton of presents under the tree, and everybody has a
lot of presents, and so she's decided to just scale
back on that and be present this Christmas instead of
(08:44):
all these presents, that she would be present with her family,
the people in her life, her faith. And that really
hit me.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
You know that is give the gift of yourself instead
of objects.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
I'm really just focus on being present for people.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
That's nice.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah. And then expectations is such a big thing, you
know this time, you know, we're going to have that
hallmark like Christmas, everybody around the table, and.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
If you have certain expectations, those expectations aren't met. Then
that can be a stressor in your life.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Yeah, and I was out with some friends last night
and they were asking me, well, you're done shopping. I'm
pretty much I'm done shopping. But the reason we started
this is we give a budget to our kids. This
is your Christmas budget, and so they can order what
they want and the present is sent to the house.
(09:44):
All I have to do is wrap it. They've forgotten
because they do it on Cyber Monday, so they can
get twice as much, you know, for their money. They
budgeted and they've forgotten what they got and it's worked
out really well, and it's taken a lot of stress.
So when we come back more on the tips for
a healthy holiday season. Does your group or organization need

The Voice of Health Wellness tip featuring rapid release technology. Well,
(10:31):
let's talk about fascia restrictions. Fascia is kind of like
a shrink wrap that surrounds every muscle in our body,
and it can become dried out and lose elasticity, lead
into more tension and stiffness.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
One of the interesting things that they've been doing research,
and this has just come out within the last two years,
is that the fascia is one single organ. It's as
much of an organ as your liver, heart or kidneys.
So all the fascia in your body is completely connected
with each other and intercommunicates with each other. It's the
main thing that determines your posture. Matter of fact, it
has a very big effect on the nervous system. So
(11:06):
as you can get the fashia back into alignment, it
can actually change how the nervous system works. And much
of the muscle is controlled by the fashion material, and
if you look at the low back, it just covers
the entire low back really, so oftentimes your low back
problems is connected to the fashion material. Fascia is really
where rapid release comes through. One of my good friends,
(11:27):
Warren Hammer, that's his main thing is fascial. Actually I
introduced him to the rapid release. He came to my office.
I was working on him, doing some adjustments and then
I took the rapid release and went over and he goes,
what is that? As soon as he saw the rapid release,
it's just revolutionized his treatment. Yeah, and that's the main
thing he teaches now is how to release fascia with
(11:49):
rapid release.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
A lot of people are tight in their glutes. The
pure formist syndrome will get them in a prolonged stretch
and run the rapid release over that just for a
few minutes. Big changes.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh yeah, it again revolutionizes fascial.
Speaker 1 (12:05):

You're listening to the Voice of Health with doctor Robert
Prather of Holistic Integration, the most comprehensive wellness center in
the Midwest. Stay Today we're talking about tips for a
healthy holiday season. Let's talk about sleep.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Sleep is very important, very important aspects and one of
the things, of course is there's an awful lot going on,
there's parties, all that type of thing, but making sure
during this time that you get your normal sleep and
then also trying to get into a sleep rhythm that's
circadian rhythm, you know, once your body gets kind of
used to that, instead of staying up all night and
(14:23):
say that you'll make it up in the morning, that
you know you don't day, you don't really make it up.
So making sure that you got your sleep really has
a huge effect on your health and well being, on
your immune system and whether you get sick or not.
That's one of the things that we see quite a
bit with patience and everyone that we know that you know,
if all of a sudden you're going through and you're
(14:44):
not getting your normal sleep, then all of a sudden,
you're going to get sick. So really keeping up your
strength one, you're trying to avoid getting an exposure to infections,
which is real good, but also keeping up your own
immunity is also the other aspect of that and sleep
is absolutely critical for that.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Yeah, and it's important. People are having a hard time.
There are people having hard time sleeping, sure, and I
know we offer different supplementation that can help.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, and you don't have to go pharmaceutical. There's a
ton of different products, actually more products naturally that can
help with sleep, so that you know, you don't have
to go pharmaceutical to get your sleep in And we
have a very very high success rate and with absolutely
no risk. You know, it doesn't naturally and you don't
(15:32):
become dependent upon it either.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
I mean, when you can get a good night's sleep,
you have less pain.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Sure so. And one of the things that people, you know,
the more tired you are, the more exhausted you are.
Oftentimes that's the times where you can't sleep, you know
what I'm saying. So if you get yourself completely worn out,
then you can all of a sudden get yourself into
a cycle of sleeplessness that can become a chronic type
of thing. So nipping it in the bud, not getting
(15:58):
yourself too exhaust keeping enough on your regular sleep is
all very very important aspects.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Yeah, and I'm the type and you've been really good
for me. You know, I was not a napper or
the more productive you can do that you're successful with this,
you know inner voice saying that. And you've taught me
to slow down.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
One thing that you were doing was say, wow, I
could get a lot done at night. Yeah, and that
was not working out well, it was pretty much wearing
you out. Yeah, so we got that switched around.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Now.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I don't get on the computer after a certain time.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Sure. As a matter of fact, we don't talk business
after us eight o'clock.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Eight pm, right right, and if one of us starts,
we stop the other look at the time, it's after me.
And never talk about money after eight No.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Number five is don't drink and drive or let others
drink and drive. That's where the Uber comes in.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Ubers. Yeah, we'll put a nice plug in for that. Yes,
do not get behind the wheel, and don't let others
get behind the wheel. Make a plan beforehand. One of
the things that when I was in college, I was
very popular because I actually didn't drink and everybody wanted
me to go along with them to the bars.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Yeah, I was, you know, and then you were Uber
before Uber. That's right, I was Uber before there was Uber.
Did you get paid Yeah, they paid for all my
you know, the whole cause.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Non alcoholic drinks.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Right, non alcoholic cover charge. Oh yeah, they were more
than happy.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
And that funny. You were popular because you didn't drink, right,
You got to share that with kids these days.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Right.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Also does alcohol decrease your musics?
Speaker 2 (17:45):
It does. Now, what they find is that people who
over drink, of course, live longer, I mean die younger.
So if they overdrink, of course, you know it's going
to cause a lot of problems. But a little bit
of alcohol, you know, seems to be probably the best
everything in moderation.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Right, Number six is fastened seat belts. Why driving or
riding in vehicle very important? Safety, very important.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
You have vehicle safety. I mean, that's one of the
big killers this time of year, so make sure that
you fasten up. You never know when something's going to happen,
and it does give you a much better chance of
survival if you do have your seat belt on. That's
why that's very important, because you might be a very
good driver, but you don't know if that person that's
coming towards you has been well well I meant you know,
(18:39):
coming on the opposite side. Yeah, if they're over in
your life coming forward, you hm fast Yeah, if you
fasten your seat belt, breathe deep and relax.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
And they're talking about not to put them in their
car seats with those winter coats on, because they can
slide right out of them, you know, so that's tricky.
You're trying to keep them bundled, keep them warm, safe.
But there are some coats now out that you can
put the seatbelt on the inner side of the coat.
So very important. Number seven, be smoke free. Yes, yeah,
(19:17):
is that secondary smoke also secondary smoke.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Also, you know, when someone is smoking around you, you
get sixty percent of everything that they are smoking, so
it's almost like you're smoking with them. So that's why
it's been very important to be courteous. That's why the
rules of different designated smoking areas is so important that
(19:43):
you don't add to other people's you know, if you
choose to smoke and have the injury that's associated with that,
that is your decision, but it shouldn't be someone else's
problem too. But if you can quit smoking, maybe the
holidays aren't the best time, but you should be very
(20:04):
considerate of others. But do not smoke if you possible.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
And we offer a smoking cessation program here. You do
very successful m HM use some aur regular therapy. So
if you get to a point, but you have to
choose to want.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
To quit and cigarettes have been designed to be addictive.
They really worked on that, which should be well, actually
they did. Well, it wasn't a good thing to do.
That's why the tobacco companies had to pay out so
much in fines, but they still didn't change it. It's
just as addictive as it was.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Right, there's hardly any tobacco in it anymore. Yeah, two
percent tobacco and a lot of terrible things in it.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yes, and it was all put together to make it
as addictive as possible. So cigarette companies are not your friends.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
Let's talk about health. What should we focus on on
our health and prevention?
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Well now, right now, of course, this is the end
of the year, and one of the things is, you know,
most people have already met their deductible now's a good
time to make sure that you got all your yearly
annual exams, you know, so if you have anything that
you normal types of checks, perhaps smear, rust exam, colonoscopy,
(21:23):
all those different types of things, your heart exams, now's
actually a good time to get it in this year.
Blood work, blood work, before everything's all done. So we're
encouraging our patients too, and we encourage everyone to get
with their doctors and see what should be done. So
ask your doctor what exams am I missing and get
(21:44):
those done before the end of the year. That would
be a great idea.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, yesterday I was out and ran into a patient
and he almost seemed guilty when he saw me, Like,
I need to get in for my blood work, you know,
by the end of the year. And sure, sure, I
need to make it a point.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Yeah, and make them feel real guilty. That's what I
always do. I always say, you you center hang your
head in shame.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
So get exams and screening. It's important, especially you know,
if you've reached your deductible well, I.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Mean you should anyway, but you know, most of the
time those are the ones that are required are free,
but you should get those in on an annual basis.
And some insurances take that in consideration, will reduce your
rates because you did that, right, There are rewards if
you check.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
So let's talk about treatments, your treatments that improve your health.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Sure, of course, getting all those different types of things
we mentioned a few things. Massages reduce stress, acupuncture reduces
stress quite a bit, boost the immune system. Chiropractic adjustments,
of course, has a you know, a big thing. This
is the time of the year that stress does knock
out vertebrate and getting that fixed up, which you can't
(22:58):
do just from a massage. Massage is great for the
soft tissue. Chiropractic is fantastic for the skeletal structure, and
it always makes everything work better if you have that
lined up. So getting your chiropractic adjustments is a very
important type of thing to do for your overall health
and well being. Also making sure that if you are
(23:19):
getting toxic or if you are getting sick, seeking some
treatment along those lines. One of the nice things is
that whenever you're talking about pharmaceuticals, there's always negative effects
with that, but we have when most of our patients
get the flu or cold or something like that, one
of the things is we have natural remedies that are
(23:39):
extremely effective that don't have negative side effects, so you
don't have to go pharmaceutical to get treatments. There isn't
any condition that can't be helped through a natural product
that boosts the system makes you healthier whenever you do
a pharmaceutical. Pharmaceuticals are listed as pharmaceuticals because they always
(24:03):
have harmful side effects. So if you can get any
type of a treatment without pharmaceuticals, that is absolutely the
best way to go, right. You know, pharmaceuticals aren't necessary
at times, but you should always exhaust the other possibilities first.
So seeking those types of treatments out and that's one
thing that we provide. Finding a good structure function office
(24:26):
to provide those is is something that everyone should have,
is a structured function doctor that brings the body back
into homeostasis, and homeostasis balance is the definition of health.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Good. We talked about give the gift of health.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
And one of the nice things along those lines is
we do offer you know, like cards, things like that,
gift cards, gift cards. That's what I was trying to
kind of I was hoping you were going to try
and there for a little bit because I'd kind of
lost it there. But yeah, our gift cards are a
great way of doing that and your children and your family.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
I know one husband every year he comes in and
buys a whole package. We can sell massages in packages
of six sure for his wife, you know, every year,
which is nice.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
That's a really nice gift. And then also give the
gift of health to wives usually tell their husbands how
to stay healthy. Mm hmm, because the husbands usually don't
think about that, right, So you know, give the gift
of health to your husband and also to your kids
and make sure that they are taken care of. And
that's an important thing to be thinking about, especially this
(25:37):
time of year.
Speaker 1 (25:38):

for the clean up, but she wasn't home that afternoon,
so you put them all on.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
The kitchen counter. She kept texting me.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Now, remember at three o'clock you're supposed to start the Glenns.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
You know.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
I passed everything I've ever eaten in my entire life.
I passed things I had always thought about eating. I
passed things my neighbors had. I passed a red bicycle.
We keeping them arrack and one hour later what was
coming out of me was so pure it could be
legally declared Mountain spring Water.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Just much roasting on.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
An open fire, Jack Frost nipping you. I'm Lisa Prither
and you're listening to the Voice of Health with doctor
Robert Prether of Holistic Integration, where we get to the
root cause of your health issue. Today we're talking about
(29:30):
tips for a healthy holidays season and doctor Prayther, we
were talking about how important, especially we're nearing the end
of the year. Many people have reached their deductibles. It's
a good time to make sure to get your exams
and screenings completed, even if you haven't reached your deductible.
Good time. So we're talking about the gift of health.
Let's talk about an issue practicing fire safety.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Sure, this is the time where we have more during
the holidays, more house fires than any other time of
a year, so something to be aware of. You know,
people think, oh, you know, no, we deal, but there's
heaters that people put on. That's one of the big things.
We have Christmas trees now in our houses, there's fireplaces
(30:14):
that we're doing and so you know, fire safety right
now is a very important type of thing. One of
the things is outlets. You know, we have about twenty
Christmas lights all attached to one outlet and there's a
little spark. And so practicing those intelligent types of things
that you're not overloading and electrical wires that you're taking
(30:38):
care and making sure that the Christmas tree is not flammable,
making sure that the fireplaces are safe, and making sure
especially the biggest thing that kicks off house fires is
space heaters, you know, So making sure that if you've
got a space heater, that you only have it on
when you're watching it, turn it on during the night.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, we have one in our closet because it just
gets so cold and rare.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
And just making sure that that is off if you're
not in there is a very important thing, because those
space heaters are the number one reason for fires to
kick off. So that would be one thing that I
would really just if we can just help one person
and one person keeps from having a fire because of that,
then the show is definitely worth it.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Okay, how about preparing food safely?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Yes, And when you're talking about like chickens, thirty three
percent of all chickens have food poisoning on them. An
easy thing to do is to you know, you take
the chicken, you wash it in the sink and you've
got all this water splatting around. One little droplet of that.
If that gets in with the lettuce something that's not cooked,
(31:53):
then you have food poison. You know, that just hits
right then, So make your turkey, make your especially don't
combine meat and non cooked products together because you usually
cook meat at much higher temperature. You need to make
sure that you're following the guidelines I believe you have
(32:14):
to have. If you're got a thermometer in there, it
needs to hit at least one hundred and sixty five
to kill the bacteria food poisoning that's in there. So
you need to reach at least one hundred and sixty
five inside the turkey or the chicken or whatever you're cooking.
That can be on any type of a meat, and
that's the most common ways that that's spread, but it
can also be from handling of food. So your vegetables,
(32:37):
make sure that they're washed thoroughly, you're using some good
sanitation with that, and then just making sure that those
cutting boards are cleaned on a regular basis. Just the
right dishwashers have been one of the major things that
is cut down on the number of food poisonings. That
has been one of the one of the great inventions,
(32:58):
just like washing machines have cut down on a lot
of different types of infections too. That was spread through clothing.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
And if you're like me, you wash your dishes before you.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Put them in the dishwasher, right, and you usually use
the dishwasher as a sanitation. You know, it really does
hit those temperatures where there's not a carryover of issues.
Making sure that your refrigerator is cold enough. Also, if
you freeze meat before you actually cook it, oftentimes that
can cut down on the number of bacteria too. And
(33:29):
then you know, for turkeys and chickens, how you thaw them.
You know, you should throw them in the refrigerator or
you should be thawing them in cold water and then
changing it every couple hours, so you change the water
as it's thawing. And you can look up on a
Center of Disease Control several different sites that can go
through copper food handling. We don't have time to go
(33:52):
through all of those different types of things, but food
handling for those who are preparing it not spreading infections.
There are seventy five million food poisonings it so, oh
that are reporting know that, they know that that's kind
of how that's going. So there's about seventy five million
(34:14):
a year. So it's a very common type of thing.
And it is not any fun to spend your holidays
cooped away in the royal.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Throne exactly, unless you want to get out of cookie.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Well, it's still not worth it, still not worth it.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Oh well, let's talk about eating healthy during the holiday season.
You know, it's very easy. Sure, people are bringing us
here at the office some wonderful sweets.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Sweets, Yeah, a lot of them, and if you eat
too many, it does lower your immune system.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yeah, So let's talk about eating healthy this holiday season.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
Right, And one of the things that people need to
remember is really thinking about is this a healthy way?
Of course, you're going to indulge a little bit, and
if you are over indulging, taking some vitamins minerals along
with that, because you're probably whenever you take sug The
reason sugar is so bad is that it's empty calories,
and to process calories, you need a lot of vitamins
(35:16):
and minerals to put that through the ringer to say,
to turn it into energy for the body. So when
you take a lot of sugar, it deplete your body
of all the different vitamins, Vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin C,
the B vitamins, zinc, manganese, all those different types of
things that are necessary for the proper functioning of the body.
(35:38):
And so when you have those empty calories, you know,
you weaken the whole body and the immune system and
then you have you get sick much much easier. So
trying to think of what's healthy, what's not, and try
to be a little bit extra careful, especially if you
indulge as we all do.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Yeah, and maybe you know, switching that to fruit or.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Sure and fruit is really a marvelous way.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
And if yeah, I know, I'm going to increase my
pomegranate intake. Yeah, my pomegranity is Well.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
We did a food allergy test just recently to see
what things were helping us and which things weren't. And
that's an excellent type of a way to kind of
get things back up to part.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yeah, it was very very helpful. So let's talk about
stain active. When you're talking about stain active, doctor pray there.
What are you talking about.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yeah, it's some good exercise. I mean, exercise, as I
always like to say, cures a world of sin. If
you exercise, it makes everything work better. So finding a
good exercise routine. We are coming up on the new year,
actually start that maybe if you haven't been doing it beforehand,
you no reasonable some good walking, some listening, weights, different
(36:51):
types of activities. The more active you are, within reason,
the better your health is. It helps with the insulin levels.
It helps to make up for some of the bad
food that we might eat. It helps to clear out
some of the alcohol that we shouldn't have been drinking,
all the other things that we know have over indulged.
Exercise can really help out tremendously with those things.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
And I know a lot of people walk outside and
now it's very cold, you know you can. I was
at the mall yesterday exactly saw walkers and they were moving.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
One of the things. They have a whole program on
the Center of Disease Control website on mallwalkers. Yeah, on
how much beefit is. They have a program for that.
And mallwalking. You see a lot of interesting people. It's
not too cold out there.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
You're not by yourself.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
You're not by yourself.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yeah, and you're not even spending money, that's right unless
you want to.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Right, and you walk quickly past the cinnamon, you know. Yeah,
you have to plug your nose, right, that's right, watching
out for those places you might remap you're malwaking to
kind of avoid those. But yes, the malwaking is a
marvelous way and then it's also a great time of
(38:08):
socialization too.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
M Yeah. And there's a lot of community centers. I
know the Monon Center in Carmel that has an inside
track and I think it's free actually for people in
the community if they wanted just to walk the track.
But a lot of communities have centers like that where
they can do that.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
It'tant and making that apart. I mean, we're all so
busy and having something along those lines would be just
a very very smart thing to do.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
And I have finally found, you know, being over fifty,
it's been really fifty. Yeah, I know, surprising. It is
finding an exercise that wouldn't do me in you know,
like I still think I'm in my twenties and thirties
somehow mentally I still but my body can know better exercises.
(39:00):
But I've finally found pilates and I have to schedule out,
which is really good for me. And then if you miss,
you have a no show, you have to pay ten dollars.
So those are the things I needed, and I've been
really committed to it and noticing the difference.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah, they keep you committed there.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Yeah, but there's I haven't There hasn't been any injury,
you know. For me, it's it's been really good for
me and really working on on that core.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Yeah. For those of us who are a little bit
older me included, avoiding injuries is one of the most
important things, right right, because oftentimes I sit there and
still think I'm in my twenties and thirties right as
I start doing things and I figure out the next
day that probably wasn't a good idea.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
Yeah you do tai chi and yeah, that just been Yeah,
I think you were sparring with a yeah, a thirty
year old.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah, it didn't go well, let's put it that way.
Just kind of drop it.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Okay, all right, let's talk about you talked a little
bit about vitamin D levels. I'm going to turn your
vitamin D levels. Anything more that you want to stay
in that.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Well, that's actually one of the theories because it's during
the wintertime that flu really takes off, and there's a
very strong theory that they're trying to prove that the
vitamin D and the flu taking off is one of
the correlations. So vitamin D is a very important part
of the immune system. Now I don't recommend taking it
unless you do a blood test because you can get
(40:36):
too much vitamin D. We had a patient who came
in who had just started out and it heard that
vitamin D was important for the immune system during the holidays,
and so was taking fifteen thousand units a day and
her vitamin D level was two hundred and fifty, which
is way too high. Yeah, yeah, that was so yeah.
(40:57):
So you know one of the things that we as
soon as we got that, we called them up, said hey,
you need to stop your vitamin D. You're at a
toxic level. So I've had people come in and I said,
you know, this is one time we need to check
your vitamin D and they said, I don't need to
check because I'm taking And I said, even more, why
you need to check your.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Vitamin D because it's a fat soluble fat valuble.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
It can accumulate in the system and cause liver damage
and several other things. So it's important again. Homeostasis is
the most important thing, not too much, not too little,
you know, in everything. That's where we really work at.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
Right. Another thing is don't be alone during the holiday season.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Yes, sometimes the worst thing is no one around. You know,
find people if you don't have family, things like that,
and make friends. There's always people who are willing to
take you in. But being alone during the holidays or
anytime really weakens immune system. So being alone is you know,
home alone is not necessarily a good thing, even if
(41:57):
your family is a little dysfunctional. Times dysfunctional is better
than nothing, all right, all right.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
And any other expert advice Doctor Praither.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Well, one thing I would say is say no to
raw dough. The reason you say no to raw dough
is because they got parasites in them. Yes, don't eat
it if you don't want worms.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
All right. Well, thank you doctor Prayther for tips for
healthy holiday season.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Oh my pleasure.
Speaker 1 (42:22):

our mission is restoring hope to our patients. Well, doctor Prayther.
This week you'll be hosting a seminar and Healthy Holidays
and Longevity on Wednesday, December third at six thirty pm
(46:34):
at co Hatch and Carmel. And this is the second
time that we're going to have the seminar at co Hatch.
We chose it because it's in the middle of the
Carmel Arts and Design district, right there on Main Street,
offers free parking and right in the heart of Carmel
downtown community.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Very fun.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Yeah, so people can come before and go Christmas shopping.
But again it'll be at co Hatch and Caramel and
we have some food there right yes, oh yes, we
also always have great food and we're upstairs. But they
do have an elevator if people that come need that.
(47:17):
So it's just a great venue for our seminar.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
So yeah, I really liked it last time. It was
kind of fun to do. I got a little elevated
spot that everybody can see me.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
Yes, when you're speaking, right, and the room is nice
and soundproof.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Right, and then I don't have to set up the
chairs beforehand.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Yeah. Right, So you're going to be speaking on healthy
holidays and longevity, and we're going to be offering all
of those who attend the seminar in person or by zoom,
we'll receive twenty percent off our prey through profile blood analysis,
you know, which is always our starting point and Dotter
(47:58):
preyther let's talk about that. Why is blood work so
important as a longevity tool.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Well, you start out and you want to know what
the markers are. You know, how well are your kidneys working,
how well is your immune system, how well is your liver,
your enderconsystem, all those types of things, and it's good
to know if you're in a crisis, but it's also
good to know because things start to creep up on
you and it's much easier to fix a fire if
(48:28):
it's located in your trash can than if it's roaring
through your whole house. So you know, if you're looking
at longevity, knowing where you're at is probably one of
the most important things and what you need to work on.
So blood work, as we say, is the blueprint to
your health.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
Right, And I mean, like you said, it's so important.
It kind of takes the fear out of it too,
because you've always said, you know, you have to know
kind of that blueprint.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
Right. It's just like doctor Geiton, who wrote the physiology
book that I read when I was going through school.
He said, if you don't test, you don't know, and
if you don't know, you can't treat. So blood work
is the way of actually knowing, right.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
And how often should a person get blood work?
Speaker 2 (49:23):
Well, of course it's recommended even by insurance companies who
pay for it done once a year, but really I
do mine every three months, and you should probably do yours,
you know, if you're really up on it, every three
months or every six months instead of just once a year.
Once a year is sort of the minimum. And it's
amazing how few people actually do that on a yearly basis. Yeah,
(49:46):
even so, this is an opportunity to you know, take
a look at things, see where you are and know
how you're going to work with your health for especially,
get an idea before the coming year, you know, and
then New Year's is always a great time to make
those New Year's resolutions. Resolutions is what I was looking for.
(50:10):
It's a great time to do that. And if you
already know what your markers are, that gives you a
good idea of where to go.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
Yeah, so the blunt test is called the preath Or profile.
And you know why is it called that? And let's
talk about what's included.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Sure, well I gave that to What's quest and also
lab Core, you know, the two big ones. You know,
as I was starting out to see what they could
do as far as on a price, and they looked
at it and said, oh, yeah, we can do this,
and they said, hey, you know, this is actually a
pretty good profile. Do you mind if we offer that
(50:46):
to other people, other doctors? And I said, oh no, no,
not at all. And so they called it the preath
Or profile. So you can actually go to another doctor
and say, hey, I want the prey through profile and
they can order. So it started out that way, but
it was something that I designed out to cover all
(51:07):
possibilities of different diseases actually starting to occur. So one
of the things if we're talking about longevity and overall health,
I mean, everybody is supposed to know their cluster numbers,
which is a real good place to start, but really
one of the things is how well your kidneys are working,
the mariial filtration rate, which is determined, and knowing how
(51:30):
healthy your kidneys are, because that would actually give us
an idea of your longevity. You can actually have a
biological age for your kidneys. So trying to keep your
kidneys even in your eighties as a twenty year old,
that's going to do wonders for your health and wellbeing
and increase your longevity. We also can get a picture
(51:51):
of how your lungs are working, we can get a
picture of how the liver's working, your immune system, on
and on and on. That just really makes it big
difference in knowing how to kind of work with things. Yeah,
And it's just like I had a couple come in recently.
They had some testing done. The one spouse actually the
guy was like super great and the wife was like, hmm,
(52:16):
we've got some work to do. So, you know, it's
amazing how many people say, well, I don't really want
to know, you know, kind of like being in the dark,
and that's not a good place to be.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
No.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Yeah, because I have people who come in who are
all worried and then I check them out and they're
great and that's great to know. You know, you keep
up with the same things. But if you are in trouble,
that's really good to know because then you can do
something about it before it becomes a crisis. Crisises are
never fun, right, you know. And evaluation reevaluation, just kind
(52:53):
of seeing where you are is a fantastic thing.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
Yeah, and what's nice is when people will get their
blood work, we have them come back, we review it
with them. They get a copy as we're reviewing it,
and then if supplementations needed or whatever's needed.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
We make recommendations. We don't twist anybody's arm to buy anything, right, So,
you know, just being aware of where you are and
how things are working. We always didn't have people come
in who have other people kind of handling their nutrition,
but they come in for the diagnostics. We have a
tremendous amount of people who come in just for the
diagnostics so that they know where they are.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Yeah, yeah, so so important. So once again, Doctor Praither's
Seminar Unhealthy Holidays and Longevity is this Wednesday, December third,
at six thirty pm at Cohatch and Caramel. You can
get tickets on our website at the Voice of Health
radio dot com and you can also attend on zoom
if you can't make it in person. Those who attend

that done to find out exactly where your health is.
