Speaker 1 (00:01):
The news, opinions, commentary, and interviews. You need to start
your day and you're listening to the West Carrol Morning Show.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Tuesday morning, fourteenth day of October. I'm west Thanks for
joining me. Took the day off yesterday. My kids had
the day off yesterday. I know many in the Muskogee
County area, a lot of Columbus kids had the day
off part of the fall break. I know they've been

(00:32):
working this fall break thing in I guess past ten
years or so, maybe as long as my kids have
been in school, maybe a while, but this has been
something it feels like it's kind of grown. I feel
like this is they're working it into a full week off.
That's what it feels like. And I know my kids

(00:53):
really appreciate their summer break, and they feel like summer
break is shortening so that they can get these extra
breaks out of this. The fact that these extra breaks
get added in when the summer break is winding down
and they go, wait a minute, Especially my thirteen year old,
he's not a big fan of the short summer break. Now.
In his defense, he doesn't like I feel like it

(01:17):
is getting shorter, and I also feel like he doesn't
remember a time for us gen X speaking here, when
we got three months off for summer, but we didn't
get any time off during the school year other than
spring break. Right, you got the winter break, which we
called Christmas break, but it was I think shorter. And

(01:41):
now they get a little bit longer off of that.
They get this now fall break, and then they get
some others here and there. Just a couple of days.
It was stuck in random places. But I know, shorter summer,
they don't like it. I feel like I enjoy the
fact that they get these breaks, and I know we've
had a heads up this one was coming. But I'll

(02:02):
be honest, I wasn't paying attention to all that. Just
being blunt, I wasn't fully tuned in to the fact
we were getting the longer break. And we managed to
get some things in for the weekend and a few
things yesterday just me and the boys kind of hanging
out in jail. Went back to work yesterday. She took
a couple of days off at the end of the

(02:23):
week to fit some things in. They did a museum tour.
They went around National Infantry Museum, they went to the
Columbus Museum, they went to Oxbo Meadows. They hit up
a few places and some donut shops. I was invited.
I decided. In spite of the fact that all of

(02:43):
that sounded like a good time, I still just was
it wasn't feeling great late in the week.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Just a little.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Little illness. I don't know what it was, but I'm okay,
I'm fine. I mean, I had surgery for crying out loud.
It's probably a little product from that. So I just,
you know, I'm in that phase of just a couple
of things that are going on, but I'm you know,
should be fine, just not just wasn't feeling great those
two days and enjoyed having some time off. Now, we

(03:14):
did venture on Tuesday up to Pumpkins at Callaway. That
was fun. We had a good time for that. That's
become a tradition now and that fits nicely in with
our fall break as part of our fall break plans,
so we were we were able to do that quickly.

(03:34):
Just want to remind you that tickets for the Columbus Nutcracker.
The only place to get those tickets coming up in December.
You get those tickets strictly from the the Columbus Ballet
Dot org or Rivercenter dot org. Don't fall for the scammers.
Don't go for the price markups. You don't need to.

(03:58):
There's no reason to do that. You can get your
tickets from the actual source, and you don't have to
worry about paying extra because the tickets are priced that
baseline price, and then if you buy them from one
of the other sites, you're going to pay more. Thirty
five to sixty dollars. That's what you're going to pay

(04:18):
for the tickets if you get them actually from Thecolumbus
Ballet dot org or Rivercenter dot org. So make sure
that you do that again, don't overpay, don't fall for
the scams. This is something that's been going on for years.
I have friends who have in the past been like, man,

(04:39):
I would come to the Nutcracker, but tickets are one
hundred and something dollars apiece just for the nosebleeds. Man.
You know, well, first of all, it's the River Center.
It is not a bad seat in the building. Let's
get rid of the nosebleed talg. Second of all, you know,
you don't have to worry about paying one hundred dollars
for a ticket because that's not how much the tickets
cost shows December thirteenth and fourteenth at the River Center. So,

(05:04):
and I actually yesterday met one of my new Tabithas,
one of my new Pollies from the show who maybe
I had met her before, like as a baby, as
seen her as now dancer, ready to go, ready to
jump in and looking forward to bringing Quinley into the

(05:24):
Tabitha family. And we're gonna have a good time at
the river Center. So get your tickets and we hope
to see you there, and again get them from the Ballet,
get them from the River Center. Don't pay the markup
ticket price, all right. Speaking of gen X and speaking

(05:44):
on behalf of some of my other fellow gen xers, Remember,
there was a thing that we used to say. It
was pretty common for us to say it. It just
we would make references to because of how absurd the
concept was, what a huge reach it would be for

(06:07):
us to attain it. And we would say it sometimes
when people remember we had the whole peace out thing
that would happen. That was something that you know, I'm
sure we had recycled that, but we would get the
peace out and then we would say, you know, peace
in the Middle East, and that seemed like that would
never happen. It seemed like it was a completely absurd notion,

(06:30):
something that no matter how much we said it, it would
never happen, no matter how much, don't stop believing we
listened to. It just seemed like it was a ridiculous notion.
And we would say it with hopes. I mean, some
would just say it because it, you know, had that
little kind of rhyme pattern to it. But overall we

(06:51):
would say it. Some of us would say it with
a little prayer in our heart, thinking, man, maybe we
can have peace in the Middle East. Well, guess what
it took peace in the Middle East to get some
folks on the left to actually give compliments to President Trump. Yeah,
they actually did. Senator Chuck Schumer referencing the hostages being

(07:20):
released yesterday, the last twenty surviving hostages, Chuck Schumer says,
today is a wonderful day. Finally, finally, finally, the last
living hostages brutally held by hamas or home an immense
and overwhelmingwhelming sigh of relief. I commend the enormous advocacy
of the tireless hostage families, President Trump, his administration, and

(07:44):
all who helped make this moment happen. He said, there's
an enormous opportunity ahead for a long term and lasting peace.
It is with the utmost importance that every party involved
pursue the opportunity to finally build a lasting peace ultimately
through a realized two state solution that ensures security, prosperity,

(08:07):
dignity for Israeli's Palestine. So like, all right, that's his
full statement. I was mainly just trying to focus on
the fact that he gave Trump some credit. He's not
the only one. The ladies from the view Alissa Farrah
Griffin basically says, yeah, a massive diplomatic achievement. There's the

(08:29):
whole world can breathe a sigh of relief and saying
we can all pray it stays that way. We also
had some of the folks from CNN, Chris Slisa, I
don't know all the people on CNN, sorry, Chris was

(08:50):
one of the ones. It said that people who weren't
giving Trump credit are blind. And Jake Sullivan, the former
national security advisor for President Biden, when asked by Dana
Bash if the president deserve credit, of course he does,
and I give credit to President Trump. I give credit

(09:12):
to Witkoff, Kushner, and Rubio. These are hard jobs. The
president of the United States is the hardest job in
the world, and these other jobs, including the job I occupied,
are tremendously difficult. I mean, it's still a compliment. I
know he came in there and he had his little

(09:33):
patting himself on the back. I mean, he understands it's
a tough job. I get that. But let's just take
a moment and say, hey, the hostages are home. The
families that got the hostages back, they're surviving hostages, can celebrate.
The folks who don't get that same privilege, that don't

(09:58):
get that same moment to welcome their loved ones off
there is obviously, they still have to be thought about,
they still have to be prayed for. But this is
a huge step towards attaining something that I don't know
that anyone really thought was possible. The Clintons, I guess,

(10:21):
have both given credit to President Trump. Hillary Clinton's amazingly
gave him credit for something. I remember she called him
a warmonger, a war president. Remember that's what she said.
She said, his whole tone is that he's a war president.
So this is what it took for them to get

(10:45):
to this stage where they would give him a compliment.
They're not all giving him compliments, though not all of them.
But let's also see how long it takes for the
usual suspects to get right back to throwing hate in
his direction. One that is not giving him credit though,
one who is basically not happy with peace. I guess

(11:10):
New York City mayoral candidate Zoron Mamdani condemning US support
of Israel for funding genocide. Today's scenes of Israelis and
Palestinians are proudly moving, profoundly moving. Israeli hostage is being freed,
Families reunited after years of fear, uncertainty and torture, the

(11:30):
first days in Gaza without relentless Israeli bombardment of Palestinians,
as families return to rubble and loved ones freed from detention.
He says, We've watched our tax dollars that have funded
a genocide. The moral and human cost will be a

(11:51):
lasting stain and requires accountability and real examination of our
collective conscience and our government's policies. I've spent time talking
about him, and there's concerns that we have to take time,
and I'm not gonna I'm not going to dive too
deep into this. I just want to just say this,

(12:14):
mom Donnie, is part of a big picture strategy. And
you can say this is either the communists hiding under
the guise of democratic socialists. That is certainly part of
what's going on here. Go back to Martin Luther King
and mom Donnie has quoted him the democratic socialist thing.

(12:36):
This is how communists will be seen democratic socialists. But
they're communists, that's what they are. That's that's the term
used to try to confuse you. But it's also more
than that. This is also uh, there's just more going
on here. We have people that want to tear down

(12:57):
this country. And remember nine to eleven, the focus was
taking down the biggest city in the US. It was specifically,
let's take down the World Trade Center. It took two attempts,
Let's take down the World Trade Center. We're going to
take down these buildings, and we want to show the

(13:18):
world that the Americans aren't safe, that their precious World
Trade Center, that trade in America can't be protected from us.
There's a very specific focus on New York City. There's
a specific focus and when you change the rules that

(13:40):
a Democratic socialist not a Democrat, can win the primary
and be the Democrat nominee. Just be aware of the
fact this is someone who does not have good intentions
for America. They want to destroy New York City, all
of the things that they've talked about doing that. The
people are just kind of blindly saying, ah, we're looking

(14:02):
for something fresh. We heard Palestinians were good. So just
be aware there's a lot at stake here. There's a
lot at stake, and he is doing more. There's a
trojan horse element to this, and just be aware when

(14:23):
he destroys New York City and business leaves, and that's
what's gonna happen when he wins, and there's gonna have
to be the concept of elections have consequences is going
to play out in New York. Now back to that concept.
Let's go back to Donald Trump. Let's go back to
what happened yesterday with the hostages being released. That moment

(14:47):
would not have happened had Donald Trump not won. Think
about another four years of Joe Biden when all of
this started and it felt like no one was in charge.
The auto pen was signing documents. No one was really there.
He was working four hours a day. He was watching Mattlock.

(15:11):
He got confused, why is Mattlock an old lady? Now
there was just a lot of confusion. There is a
lot of confusion when you can't fit why does of
Mattlock look like Bobby Bouchet's mom? Now was it? There
was just confusion in the White House. It's Kathy Bates joke.
By the way, So we wouldn't have had this, Kamala

(15:34):
Harris wins, we wouldn't have had this. There'd have been
no focus, no effort on this. This wasn't a concern
on the left. Now the next question, and this is
where elections have consequences. We went through four years of
this Ukraine Russia war, the invasion and the war that
continues to go on and on and on, the funding

(15:57):
that went on and on and on, and this war
now drawn to a close cease fire. There is currently
peace in the Middle East, at least of the time
of recording. Trump didn't just meet with the families of
the hostages that were released. He didn't just meet with them.

(16:20):
He just didn't just meet with leaders. He also went
to some of the neighboring countries and said, we need
to talk about what we're going to do to make
sure this doesn't ever happen again. That was all part
of his trip, continues to be part of his trip.
How do we make sure this doesn't ever happen again?

(16:41):
Elections have consequences. We don't have a lot of listeners
in New York. I'm shouting down an empty hallway, but
I can just tell you you have time to pull
out of this decision about electing a mayor that wants
to destroy New York. You have time if you want
to hang on to his city now. Granted, can he

(17:02):
destroy the city in one term as a mayor? He
can do a lot of damage. Biden did a lot
of damage in four years just by not being there,
by being asleep at the wheel. Can he completely destroy
the city? Well, if the businesses start pulling out, they're
not coming back. It's going to take a lot to
get them to come back. So, if you're happy about

(17:24):
what happened yesterday, if you're happy about the hostages finally
coming home, if you're happy about peace in the Middle East.
As you can see, many leaders on the left giving
Donald Trump credit and it's time for that to trickle
down and people on the people who have to get
on Twitter and Facebook and shout to the world and

(17:47):
get really excited that the two hundred people that follow
them can see their message. And really it's only like
twelve because of all the algorithms. Time for them to
shout it to their twelve people that are going to
see it. He deserves. It would not have happened had
he not won the presidency. Today's show brought to you

and the careers in space and STEM fields are booming
right now, and you can learn more about maybe getting

also check out some of their upcoming programs. They've got
this incredible collaboration that they do with the Schwobe School

(18:55):
of Music from Columbus State University called Music under the Dome.
It's unlike any comert experience that you can get anywhere else.
It's one of those things that when you're watching it
in Columbus, Georgia, you think, is this really in Columbus, Georgia.
I mean, this is a major city attraction that happens

(19:38):
and you can do that as well. Upcoming Astronomy Night
events also on their website. It's CCSSC dot org. As
Sean Crusan says, Charlie Charlie SamSam Charlie dot org, I

by Overhead Door Company of Columbus for all of your
garage door needs. Commercial or residential. Maybe you have regular
maintenance that it's time for. It's always good to get
maintenance on anything that has parts that move and have electronics.
The folks at Overhead Door Company of Columbus can take

(20:18):
care of square and that away for you, and while
they're there, you can always ask them questions about some
of the maybe cosmetic changes you'd like to make to
your garage door. Maybe your curb appeal isn't quite what
you want it to be and you need some repair
work done to the outside door. Maybe you need a
brand new garage door completely. Maybe it's making a noise
when your garage door opens and closes. Maybe it's some

(20:41):
sort of installation issue that you've got. With colder or
warmer weather, sometimes that stuff gets in and it's inconvenient.
Maybe you're looking at a situation where you'd like to
add a screen door to your garage door system that
you can put down and you can use your garage
space as a sort of outdoor indoor, you know, if
you like to work on your own cars in there,

(21:03):
or maybe you just want a little man cavid. You'd
like to be able to open the door up and
not invite all the insects in. They can do that
for you as well, and again they do after hours calls.
There's nothing worse than that thought of having your car
trapped inside your garage and your garage door won't open
and you need somebody to come help, and they do
those as well. Seven oh six thy five eight forty

right after the break well? Is your car a magnet
for bird poop? According to a new survey, brown cars

(21:48):
are the most likely to get bombarded by bird droppings,
followed by red and black vehicles. If you drive a
white or silver car, you're in luck. Those colors seem
to attract fewer gifts from above. Certain car brands also
seem to be bird favorite, Dodge Ram trucks top of
the list, followed by Jeep and Chevy. The cost of

(22:10):
cleaning up after birds isn't cheap, either, with nearly twenty
five percent of drivers spending over five hundred dollars annually
on car washes or paint repairs because of bird poop,
with Tesla and BMW owners facing the steepest bills. Scientists
suggests birds may be drawn to certain colors due to
their ultraviolet vision, and shiny surfaces like mirrors and hoods

(22:31):
can trigger territorial behaviors, especially during mating season. To avoid
becoming a bird's favorite target, experts recommend parking in a garage,
using a car cover, or opting for lighter colored vehicles.
Not much you can do if you've already bought the car,
I mean, in the garage with a car cover, all

(22:52):
those things. But it's not like you can just lighten
up the color. I mean, you can get it painted,
but that's pretty expensive for little bird poop, you know,
I mean, and I know if it gets I don't know,
if it gets so bad that you gotta do repairs
to it, maybe you just run it through the wash
every now and then. It's not a big surprise that

(23:13):
high school kids use AI for their schoolwork, but the
shocking results of a new study find that they're also
using it for romance. According to the study that came
from the Center of Democracy and Technology, one in five
high school students say they are someone they know has
had a romantic relationship with AI, and forty two percent
say they've used AI for companionship or mental health support.

(23:37):
One of the authors of the report, Elizabeth Laird, says,
I think students should know that they are not actually
talking to a person. They're talking to a tool, and
those tools have known limitations in their defense. A lot
of the kids that they might be talking to their

(23:57):
real people are also tools. Also in the subject of
AI and romance, if people in Ohio want to turn
to AI for love and companionship, that's okay, But they
can forget about marrying AI if new legislation passes. State

(24:18):
Representative that he is Claggett, chair of the House Technology
and Innovation Committee, proposed a bill that would make it
illegal for people to marry an AI system. The bill
specifically prohibits artificial intelligence for being recognized as people. He explained,
as the computer systems improve in their capacity to act

(24:38):
more like humans, we want to be sure that we
have prohibitions in our law that prohibit those systems from
ever being human in their agency. Claggett insists that the
bill will prevent AI from taking on roles held by spouses,
such as holding power of attorney or making financial or
medical decisions on another's behalf. Now if you're thinking this

(25:01):
could never happen. Why would they go to all of
this effort. Let's just leave this out there. There's a
lot of things that have happened in the last ten
years that we would not have imagined would have been
allowed to happen. At no point would we have imagined
somebody would say, you know what, not only should it

(25:21):
be okay for biological boys and men to compete against
girls and women in sports, but you should encourage them
to do that Like that would not you know, I mean,
let's just understand they're trying to get on this right,
you know, at the ground level, that's what they're doing.

(25:41):
Sometimes one of the best things to eat after night
of partying is a good old fashioned frozen pizza. And
Simple Recipes is put together panel of food experts to
pick what's the best frozen pizza that's in your local
stores freezer right now? The name the Screaming Sicilian as
the best brand, with particularly high School the worse for
the companies Holy Pepperoni. One member of the panel, Alison Robacelli, said,

(26:06):
to be honest, the best supermarket pizza is the one
that you're in the mood for at that moment. Some
nights call for something lousy but intensely nostalgic, one that
reminds you of an after school snack or a bowling
alley snack bar. I agree with that sentiment. Tesla owners
got an unexpected upgrade on their screen that shows the

(26:26):
vehicle going down the street. The company sent out a
software update that enables consumers to turn their vehicles into
light cycles from Tron on their screens. However, it doesn't
come with your nine inch Nails soundtrack for free, like
the one from the movie tront Are, So just keep
that in mind. You still have to pay for that,
and you can't be mad at them for years, like

(26:47):
the people that get mad at Apple for putting You
two on their iPhone. Apple did it, but people got
mad at you too because they have this blind loyalty
to iPhones. And if that's you, that's fine. I'm just saying,
let's put the blame where the blame belongs, or just
enjoy a free U two album. That'll do it. For
