Speaker 1 (00:01):
The news, opinions, commentary and interviews. You need to start
your day. You're listening to the West Carrol Morning Show.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Friday morning, third day of October. I'm west Thanks for
joining me. I know it's Friday. We try to keep
it kind of light. That's what we do on Fridays.
But before we can do that, I've got well, I've
got a story. I feel like it is worth mentioning,
it's worth noting, and I feel like we need to

(00:31):
at least discuss it. University of Delawar's Student TV network
included at the end of their I Guess TV shows.
At the closing credits to one of their shows, they
had some special thanks listed and Charlie Kirk's Killer was
one of the people that received special thinks it's ud

(00:55):
student run STN forty nine. I Guess is the name
of the show, and they listed some other what they think.
It's a live sketch comedy show biweekly that they do
and also in there was cocaine and violence were other
things that were thinked. They did take I Guess eventually
take that down. The network overseen by someone on faculty

(01:19):
and advisor. It's part of their calm department. It said,
the University of Delaware unequivocally condemns the deeply offensive and
insensitive language that appeared in the rolling credits of the
live broadcast of a comedy program that was produced by
the student led television station. Following the live streamed comedy show,

(01:40):
a member of the station immediately raised concerns among student
peers about offensive language and the credits. Recognizing the negative
impact of that language, the group decided within hours of
its original broadcast to remove the rolling credits before posting
the content to their site. We want to state clearly
that UD does not condone the use of any language

(02:01):
that diminishes the value of human life, respect, and civility,
or core university values. UD remains committed to fostering opportunities
for dialogue about civility and the responsibilities that come with
free expression in a diverse and inclusive community. So there
you go. This is I guess the former President Biden's

(02:26):
alma mater. I don't know if that's relevant. I don't know.
It's just worth noting that this is the kind of
school that puts out Joe Biden. That Nick Miles, by
the way, it was the executive director of this program,
and he had this quote. This program operates under faculty oversight,

(02:48):
with taxpayer funded resources, and carries the university stamp of approval.
For something like this to make it on air is
both disturbing and unacceptable. So yeah, a little bit. It's
a little bit unacceptable. It's not okay, not at all.
You gotta wonder if the flood of people who decided

(03:10):
that it was funny that Charlie Kirk was killed and
that they should go online and post about it, or
the people who you know, went you know, just streaming. Yes,
who's next, those kinds of things. Those people losing their jobs,
many of them that did work at universities. It makes
you wonder if that had any influence somehow. Quickly this

(03:32):
was pulled down that someone there at the school. I
mean they're saying that it was someone involved with this
show itself decided that it was in the best interest
for it to be pulled down, so anyone. Sometimes we
have to talk about these things. It's unfortunate. I'd like
to do it on a Friday. I like to keep
it light. You know. We like some weird news, we

(03:54):
like some fun, positive news, we like all of those things.
Before we jump on over to the good news because
we like the happy, happy news before we get into
the less happy news, just want to remind you that
the Nutcracker Ballet, presented by the Columbus Ballet is coming

(04:15):
again to the Columbus River Center and don't miss your
chance to get your tickets to the show, and we
want to see you there in attendance. And we'd like
to remind you yet again that don't get your tickets
from any of the third party sellers. That's not the

(04:38):
way to go when you go online to get your tickets.
If you're buying them online, you should get them from
the Columbus Ballet dot org or directly from the River Center.
You can get them from the River Center's box office
as well. And you shouldn't be paying these up price
these up charged ticket prices. You're getting ripped off. You
don't want to pay one hundred bucks for tickets to

(05:02):
the show, You shouldn't have to do that. And the
show Saturday, December thirteenth, seven thirty pm. Sunday December fourteenth
at two thirty pm, the matinee show at the River Center,
and we'd love to see you there. I'll be on
stage and the role of Mother Ginger for the seventh time.
I'm very excited about getting back to the stage. I

(05:22):
did my next surgery with this show in mind. My
recovery will have me ready to go back on stage,
back on the stilts, and ready to perform for you.
So we hope to see you there and again. Ticket
prices from the actual people selling the tickets the Columbus

(05:44):
Ballet through the River Center or whatever. Thirty five dollars
to fifty nine dollars, that's your price. Ticket range, tickets
range for the prices. You don't want to pay one
hundred and fifty dollars at Someone tell me one day,
I was trying to get some seats down near the
stage and they were like three hundred dollars, and it's like,
what where are you getting those from? You don't want those,

(06:06):
nobody want, You don't need that. That's not how much
those tickets cost. Someone is buying those tickets and reselling
them to you. That's what's happening. And you don't fall
prey to that. You don't want to be a victim
of all that. Nobody needs that. That's not what we
need at all. December thirteenth and fourteenth at the River Center.
Get your tickets from the River Center box office or

(06:28):
the Columbus Ballet dot org. Rivercenter dot org is the
website for the River Center's box office. All right, let's
jump into some good news, some positive news, some happy news,
some things that we can feel good about. And how
about this one. I like animal stories. We all like
a good animal story, right, I mean, when we get

(06:49):
to the weird news, if we can get a story
about a bear breaking into someone's kitchen and you know,
eating all of their honey or something, that's it's right too.
But this is a good news story. I mean, that's
a good news story for the bear. This one is
about a pig. Story about a brave little piglet in
Iowa with a happy ending. Animal rescuers and Cedar Rapids

(07:12):
say that this little pig, which has been named Peppa,
leapt from the back of a moving truck on a
highway in a desperate jump for freedom. She suffered a
few bumps and scrapes, but Cedar Rapids Animal Care treated
her and said in a social media post that she's
doing so sow l soalwell. The pig Peppa spent her

(07:37):
first day of freedom, getting warm hugs from staff needing grass.
But the story gets better. After hearing about her harrowing story,
the Iowa Farm Sanctuary offered to take her and give
her a forever home where she will get to enjoy comfort,
care and an occasional role in the mud. I would think,
as a pig, you want plenty of roles in the mud, right,

(07:59):
So give them tow her. Just give him to her,
Let her have her roles in the mud. Back on
July fourth, phasin Chawdry lost his Faison. Faison, maybe be
that's what that is? Childhrey lost his phone. It's an
iPhone fourteen promax. He was tubing on the Delaware River

(08:21):
along the New Jersey Pennsylvania border. But two and a
half months later he got a call from a woman
named Mattie Wells, who spotted the phone during a Did
I say he lost the phone? He lost the phone
during a canoe trip and brought it back to him
amazing or it brought it home amazingly, eaving that the
phone was submerged in water for months, it powered on
still worked perfectly. Maddie called Faison with the good news

(08:45):
she had his phone and it was working Faison was
shocked by the news. He even thought it was possibly
a prank, and he said, I was sketchy about it
at first, thinking I might be getting scammed or something,
but he changed his mind when Maddy sent him a
text with a picture of his phone. Faison drove to
meet Mattie and get his phone back. I just couldn't

(09:05):
believe it, he said, and I was just mind blown.
I mean, you wouldn't expect something like that after two
and a half months being in the water. That is wild. Phone.
My phones don't have I have to put them in cases,
and even then, if they get dropped or scraped, there's
always going to be some issue with it. All right,

(09:25):
let's move over to some strange and bizarre news. A
stretch of highway in LA was left looking like the
morning after a wild frat party when a multi vehicle
crash spilled beer, kegs and cans all over the road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, several vehicles were involved,
including some semi trucks. One truck's trailer was ripped open,

(09:46):
spilling its entire load of cors like cans and kegs.
All westbound lanes were initially closed following the crash, but
crews were able to move the debris to the right
two lanes, allowing traffic to pass on the left. No
s curious injuries were reported. But it's a scene, man,
It's a scene, you know, straight out of Animal House

(10:10):
or any of those movies. A school in Ohio briefly
offered students of course in yak wrangling after I heard
of yak's escaped from a nearby ranch and ended up
in the school yard. During recess, five large bovines got
out of their enclosure at Hidden Nook Ranch, located about
a mile from Indian Lake Middle School. Some sixth grade

(10:32):
teachers noticed the animals munching on the grass while students
were outside for recess. Sheriff's deputies in personnel from the
ranch responded to the scene and tried to wrangle the
animals into a trailer, but the yaks wouldn't budge. It
took several people using gates to finally lead them into
a truck and ultimately get them taken back to the ranch.

(10:56):
How about that for a story. I mean middle schoolers
es chipping in helping out. I don't know. Police in
Germany recently pulled over a bright pink car because they
thought it looked a little suspicious, and they were right.
Officers approached the car and opened the trunk to find
a Shetland pony just chilling out on a rolled up

(11:16):
carpet in the back seat. The little horse even got
a bucket of feed in front of it, and it
was settling in for a road trip. The driver, a
woman from the area, didn't seem to think anything was wrong.
She'd tied the pony to a metal hook it insisted
that it was safe. Police, though, weren't convinced. They explained
that in the event of a crash, the pony could

(11:37):
be thrown forward with a force of about seven and
a half tons, posing a serious danger to everyone on
the road. The woman was issued a forty one dollar
ticket that she refused to pay because she didn't think
she did anything wrong, but authorities disagreed. She was stopped
from continuing her journey with the pony in tow and
faces criminal charges. It's a forty one dollar ticket.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Pay the ticket.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
You're getting off easy with a forty one dollar ticket,
believe me. I mean now, it's like forty one dollars
for jaywalking, right, I mean at least parking in the
wrong spot, you're gonna get forty one bucks. I think
I've got more animal stuff, Peta, calling for a criminal
investigation into a teacher at a high school in Texas

(12:23):
who was accused of feeding a week old kitten to
a live snake in her classroom. Now, this is the
case where Pete I think is okay to be involved.
Often Peta chimes in on things, and I think you
know what, Stay in your lane, Peta. But this might
be one where Peter should be involved. An advance to

(12:43):
animal science teacher at Albert High School allegedly brought in
four kittens that were born to her own cat and
fed one of them to the snake. The incident came
to light after a student, who was very upset, took
home remaining kittens. Unfortunately those kittens. Later students in the
classroom say the teacher told him that she had more

(13:04):
pregnant cats at home and had fed kittens to the
snakes before. Because you can't save them all is that
the Pokemon slogan? That's sort of it's close right, can't
catch them all right. Peter's filed a complaint calling for
a criminal investigation to Meanwhile, the school superintendent says the
teacher is an experienced educator and an animal lover and

(13:25):
has apologized. She also has removed all snakes from her classroom.
Peter said in a statement, anyone who would demonstrate such
cruel and disturbing behavior shouldn't be around children or animals.
Like I said, normally, I don't tend to be like Pete,
and I often see things like when they were complaining
about Uga and they said it should be a robot

(13:46):
bulldog and all those sorts of things. I can't side
with Pete on that, but in this case, and I
also would just like to point out this as well,
allowing her to take the snakes home where she says
she has more pregnant cats. I don't know that that's
really a good idea. I mean, I really don't know

(14:08):
that that's in the best interest of those cats, because, yeah,
you're basically sending the snakes to the house where the
other kittens are. Right, all right, A little different now.
A man in China went viral on social media after
he got his head stuck inside a traffic light. Probably

(14:29):
doesn't sound likely, but here's how it went. The man
was riding an electric scooter collided with a temporary traffic light.
Somehow his head got stuck inside the metal casing and
was wedged so tightly that it took firefighters nearly forty
minutes to cut him free. Fortunately enough for him, though
the bizarre scene was captured on camera. I mean probably

(14:52):
not fortunately for him, but fortunately for him they will
get him out.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
I guess.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Shared all over social media. The video showed him lying
in the street with an illuminated train light stuck on
his head. While physical injuries should heal, the embarrassment not
going away anytime soon. That's pretty rough. It looks weird.
I mean, if you haven't seen the video, it's certainly
worth checking out. It's weird. And finally, a thirteen year

(15:16):
old boy took his curiosity to new heights. Literally. He
managed to slip past security at an airport in Kabul
and climbed into the wheel well of a passenger plane
bound for Delhi. No one noticed, so he remained in
the tight, freezing space with little oxygen for the entire
two hour flight. Miraculously, somehow he survived. When the plane landed,

(15:40):
he wandered around the tarmac until finally someone saw him
took him into custody. He told him he was curious
about the plane's landing year and didn't know how dangerous
it was to climb into it. He also said he
wanted to go to Iran and he believed that this
particular plane would take him there. The boy was eventually
sent back to Afghanistan on the Sandeane, although inside the

(16:02):
cabin for that trip. Today's show brought to you by
Columbus State University's Coca Cola Space Science Center, inspiring and
educating the youth and future STEM leaders and STEM career
holders that really of all ages. I mean, they do
it for school age kids as school age kids visit

(16:23):
the Coca Cola Space Science Center, but they also do
it through their university programs where you can learn engineering, astronomy, physics,
and the careers in space and STEM fields are booming
right now. And you can learn more about maybe getting
your degree on their website CCSSC dot org. While you're there,

(16:46):
also check out some of their upcoming programs. They've got
this incredible collaboration that they do with the Schwobe School
of Music from Columbus State University called Music under the Dome.
It's unlike any concert experience that you can get anywhere else.
It's one of those things that when you're watching it
in Columbus, Georgia, you think, is this really in Columbus, Georgia.

(17:08):
I mean, this is a major city attraction that happens
right here in Columbus. Inside the planetarium at the Coca
Cola Space Science Center and the new season of Music
under the Dome. Check out upcoming dates for the shows,
and also check out when the next Astronomy Night's coming up.

(17:28):
Where you can get outside. Sometimes you do it at
the Cocola Space Science Center. Sometimes you get outside somewhere
outside the city lights. You don't want any light interference,
and you can do that as well upcoming Astronomy Night events.
Also on their website, it's CCSSC dot org. As Sean
Crusan says Charlie Charlie SamSam Charlie dot org, I just

(17:50):
remind you that it stands for Coca Cola Space Science
Center CCSSC dot org. Today's show brought to you by
Overhead Door Company of Columbus. For all of your garage
door needs, commercial or residential. Maybe you have regular maintenance
that it's time for it's always good to get maintenance

(18:10):
on anything that has parts that move and have electronics.
The folks at Overhead Door Company of Columbus can take
care of square and that away for you, and while
they're there, you can always ask them questions about some
of the maybe cosmetic changes you'd like to make to
your garage door. Maybe your curb appeal isn't quite what
you want it to be and you need some repair

(18:31):
work done to the outside door. Maybe you need a
brand new garage door completely. Maybe it's making a noise
when your garage door opens and closes. Maybe it's some
sort of insulation issue that you've got with colder or
warmer weather. Sometimes that stuff gets in and it's inconvenient.
Maybe you're looking at a situation where you'd like to
add a screen door to your garage door system that

(18:53):
you can put down and you can use your garage
space as a sort of outdoor but indoor. You know,
if you like to work on your own cars in there,
or maybe you just want a little man cavid you'd
like to be able to open the door up and
not invite all the insects in. They can do that
for you as well, and again they do after hours calls.
There's nothing worse than that thought of having your car

(19:14):
trapped inside your garage and your garage door won't open
and you need somebody to come help, And they do
those as well. Seven oh six thy five eight forty

Right after the break Well, a newlywed couple in India's

(19:42):
called it quits less than a year of marriage. And
it wasn't because of money. It wasn't because of in
laws or cheating. It's because their dog and cat couldn't
stand each other. Yep, the dog and the cat constantly
fighting and despite trying to make peace, the couple just
couldn't handle the chaos and neither wanted to give up

(20:02):
their pet, so they chose divorce instead. Maybe this is
just a lesson that we could apply to life and say, hey,
if you start getting in a serious relationship and you
have pets, maybe spend some time with the pets together.
You know, they say it's important that you spend time
with your future in laws, and I agree with that completely,

(20:25):
especially spend time with your future spouse and their in laws.
They say, you know, for men, you want to watch
the way the dynamic between your lady friend and their father,
and then the opposite. For women, you know, you want
to check the guy out and how he interacts with
his mom when possible, and then maybe you want to

(20:47):
just you know, get your dog and your cat in
the same room, see how they get along, and then
you may, well, maybe we could give this a run.
Maybe this has a chance, if it's going to be that,
if it's a deal breaker for you. Americans this Halloween
expected to spend a record thirteen point one billion dollars
on costumes, decorations, candy, and greeting cards. What According to

(21:11):
the National Retail Federation, greeting cards costumes account for the
biggest expense, with about four point three billion dollars expected
to be spent. Three point nine billion will go towards candy.
The average person this year, we'll spend about one hundred
and fourteen dollars, which is also a record. One of
the reasons for the record Halloween spending is an increase
in the price of candy, which is up about eight

(21:32):
percent compared to a year ago. A new study says
a lot of young singles are hitting pauls on dating,
and the reason isn't app fatigue or ghosting its money.
According to research from datingnews dot Com and the Kensey Institute,
nearly half of young singles are going on fewer dates

(21:53):
and over a third or cutting back on dating altogether.
Why Because it's too expensive. Gen Z is feeling it
with as far as the most, with fifty percent saying
financial stress is making them hesitant about pursuing a relationship.
So it's not just the cost of the dates, it's
also about the potential cost of being in a relationship.

(22:17):
So yeah, there's that. If you think just throwing money
away and redistribution of wealth around the world in the
name of climate change and green New Deal and all
that fun stuff doesn't have a long term impact on
everyday citizens, well here's another example of how it does.

(22:38):
How much is a decent night of sleep worth for you?
It's a question posed by the eight Sleep Company and
their new pod pillow cover. The cover is designed to
slip over your existing pillows without changing their shape or firmness,
and it uses silent hydro channels to circulate temperature control

(23:00):
old water beneath your head. The sleeper can pick an
exact temperature anywhere from fifty five to one hundred and
ten degrees fahrenheit, and the cover, they say, will maintain
that all night long. Price to keep your head cool
or to always have the underside of the pillow up
top ranges from a well it's one thousand forty nine

(23:23):
dollars for one, or you can get a pair of
them for sixteen forty nine, as in sixteen hundred forty
nine dollars. For close to five decades, the Jack Daniels
Distillery in Tennessee has been helping the local economy in
an unusual way by giving it's spent grains to cattle
farmers for feed. But no more. The distillery has struck

(23:44):
a deal with Three Rivers Energy to turn the stillage
into renewable gas and fertilizer. It's a move to try
to help the environment. Bad news for the farmers though,
who had come to rely on the feed. One of
them says, all I know is it's going to destroy us.
And of course the move comes when beef prices are
high and an all time high, and it makes farmers'

(24:07):
lives even tougher. So there you go. That'll do it
for this Friday edition of the show. Thanks to our
sponsors and Patronspatreon dot com slash West Carol God bless
you for supporting us there and for supporting us just
by listening. You're doing that as well, so thank you
