Speaker 1 (00:01):
The news, opinions, commentary, and interviews. You need to start
your day, and you're listening to the West Carrol Morning Show.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Thursday morning thirty, first and final day of July. I'm Wes.
Thanks for joining me. August Eve. It's coming up fast.
It's not all bad news though, as we've discussed for
about a week or so now, dragon Con comes in
August Labor Day weekend downtown Atlanta. Dragon Con Pregame Show
(00:34):
happens the weekend before dragon Con, and you can hear
it radio throughout the state of Georgia and surrounding states.
It's just the nature of the way radio works. You
can pick the signal up as we've got a good radio.
You can pick it up from anywhere just about pick
it up online from those radio stations anywhere. You can
(00:56):
also catch it on the dragon Con Pregame Show podcast.
Wherever you listen to this podcast, you can hear that podcast.
There are plenty of past episodes for you to go
back and check out some interviews. I'm especially proud I
will always mention William Shatner. There was an award at
the Gabbys for that interview and that show, but there
(01:18):
was one in particular I did with Zachary Levi where
we talked about mental health, and especially proud of that show.
Especially proud of that interview because how deeply he decided
to dive into his personal story and his struggles with
mental health and his faith and going to counseling on
(01:41):
top of getting his life right by his faith. He's
an outspoken Christian and he got the role of Shazam
immediately after he got out of counseling. He didn't even
audition for that role initially, he was trying for a
different role in that movie, and he got that role
kind of I mean, at least interest in him having
(02:02):
that role while he was getting help. So that interview
is there, and he has talked a lot about his
mental health struggles since then. This was very I'm sure
I'm not the first person to interview him to talk
about it, but we did spend a lot of time
talking about that. And then a similar sort of story
with Ross mar Kwand who was on The Walking Dead.
(02:26):
And he's been a part of a number of the
X Men animation franchise as well as the Marvel Cinematic universe,
playing in the role of Red Skull in a couple
of movies and he had a similar story. He wanted
to be on SNL and it didn't happen. That's what
he thought his life was going to be and that
(02:47):
acting was going to take him in that direction. It
did not. He's a great impressionist. SNL missed out on
having him be part of that show, but I think
things worked out well for Ross. But my interview with
him on there as we actually part of the show
where I talked with William Shatner and talked with Ross
mar kwand again last year he was actually in Columbus
(03:09):
for a different event and we had a chance to
chat with him in person. I went and took Jake
as my cameraman and we did an interview with him there.
But also part of Dragon Con pregame shows passed and
you could check those out now. And we're just weeks
away from the new episode featuring Katie Sakoff from Battlestar
(03:33):
Galactica and the Star Wars universe, as well as Longmire
and other guests. I still can't tell you who they
are yet. I just can't, and as soon as I can,
I promise I hope to have that for you at
least maybe by next week at the very latest, so
check it out. I want to thank our sponsor for
(03:53):
the Dragon Con pregame show. It feels like as always,
but almost as always. If you go back and listen
to those old shows, you got to go way back
before you find one not sponsored by Columbus State University's
Coca Cola Space Science Center CCSSC dot org. We got
some good numbers yesterday as a country when it comes
(04:13):
to the GDP, the spin on that against the president
by a lot of the media outlets, some folks actually
giving him credit that things are in a good place.
It seems we are pacing in the right direction in
so many ways, and that just means that we have
even more confusion and chaos on the left. They don't
(04:38):
know what to do, they don't know how to handle things,
they don't know what a strategy is. I actually heard
someone recently talking about the fact that sometimes political parties
just end, they just go away. There's no more wigs
and Tories and all those things. You go back far enough,
(05:00):
and there was a time when, yeah, there was no
Republican party, and then that happened, and of course Abraham Lincoln,
first Republican president. So it is possible for a party
to just end. I don't expect the Democrat Party to
just end, but it definitely is a very divided group,
and historically, at least in recent years, that hasn't been
(05:25):
the case. I've done a number of shows, it's not
even been a year probably since my last show about
the fact that the Democrat Party is one that stays
pretty unified, not anymore. That's something that over the past
several years, if one of them seemed to stray away
(05:47):
just a little bit, they got them back in check
very quickly. Now many would stray further to the left,
and the people further to the right, you know, just
left of center people. They would all hurry to the
left a little bit more to try to keep up
with the group. And now that we have so many
that are so far left, many that are left of center,
(06:10):
saying we can't be part of that. We can't be
part of the Mom Dannie crowd that's trying to take
over New York City and ruin it completely and absolutely
destroy it with just basically ideas that are going to
run business out of New York City. And we already
have a crime problem in New York City. Now it
(06:32):
will only get worse if his idea is about what
to do with police and all sorts of you know,
we're back to this defund the police mentality or this
sense social workers in mentality, and that's supposed to fix problems.
And now he's screaming for gun control. You know, he
wants to push He's blaming recent issues involving guns in
(06:57):
New York not on the gun control laws that are there,
but on the fact that everyone else doesn't have the
same gun control laws that they do, and that basically
the only way to let the people of New York
know that they'll be safe from these guns coming in
from the rest of the country is to make sure
that the rest of the country has strict gun laws
(07:17):
like New York. I know that there is there's some
argument there to be made. I tell you all the time.
I can hear other sides of arguments, and I can
hear people make cases, and I can give them sometimes
a bit of a concession. Say you know, yeah, there
are places where guns maybe are coming in from elsewhere.
(07:41):
You know that happens. I don't know that New York
really needs people bringing them in from the I don't
know that New York is sitting around waiting on guns
to come in from the Deep South. Like I don't
know that that's what's happening in New York City. I
don't know that that's what's happening in Chicago. I don't
think that the crime in Chicago in the daily and
(08:03):
they have horrible shootings every weekend, and I don't think
people there are just sitting around going, man, we'd really
like to have some gang shootings this weekend, but we're
waiting on that shipment of guns to come in from Mississippi.
I just don't think that that's what's going on, And
I think it's such a stretch and it's so disingenuous
(08:24):
to pretend that that's what's going on. Are there some
guns coming in and that's happening? Absolutely, Is that where
most of the guns in New York City are coming from? No, No,
it's not. You have law abiding citizens in New York who,
for the most part don't have guns. I guess by
obeying the law and not having a gun would make
(08:47):
you a law abiding citizen. But the criminals, of course
are the ones with guns, and creates a balance, an
imbalance of power there, because you know, there's only so
much you can do when someone comes at you with
a gun in New York City or Chicago or a
place that has very strict gun laws, there's a very
(09:07):
limited amount of things that you can do. So now
that the party is so split, they're desperate for some
sign of leadership. We just saw Corey Booker go crazy
the other night, starts the other day and starts screaming
at people, and you know, he does these things. He
likes to posture, he likes to I mean, that's what
(09:28):
he does. He had a horrible run for president when
he tried to do that. It was really, I mean
one of those things where you have that kind of
a run, you have that kind of a failure, you
don't make it deep into the primaries, and then you
just kind of bow out. You go, you know what,
American people weren't ready for me. Maybe they never will
(09:49):
be now. Kamala Harris had a similar situation where, you know,
ultimately the Biden administration over committed and said, you know what,
it's gonna be a black woman. We're gonna pick, and
then they realized they don't really have anybody we can pick.
We're very limited on our options. If they even kind
(10:10):
of looked in the direction of Stacy Abrams, that tells
you how desperate they were to find someone. So what
they did was they went, well, you know, Harris has
a profile, let's go with her. Let's take Kamala Harris.
That's who we're gonna pick. And I have said many
times I think they picked her because they felt like
she'd be easy to control. They felt like she would
(10:32):
be a lot like Julia Louis Dreyfuss's character on the
show Veep, just somebody that they could, you know, put
her off to the side in a little box, and
if they needed or they'd have her. That's what I
think they did. It's one hundred percent what I think
they did. And she was able to be whatever this
caricature of a vice president that she was, because that's
all she was, was a caricature. She seems very much
(10:56):
and this is not, you know, I'm just the impression
that many Americans have of her now is that she
was drunk soccer mom just sitting in an office as
the vice president and then her name got called to
run for president for some reason. I still think that's because, Hey,
she'd be easy to control. I told you back when
(11:17):
they were picking a candidate to be the vice president
for the Biden campaign, I thought that Tammy Duckworth would
have been a great choice. I was actually a little
scared of her being picked because I thought she could
be an actual, formidable addition to the ticket. That's what
I thought, and they didn't pick her. And I think
(11:39):
part of why they didn't pick her is because she
was somebody who wasn't going to be just put on
a shelf. I don't think that was the case, and
I think they went with somebody that they felt, well,
should we need her, we know we can get from
her exactly what we need. And then they did. They decided,
let's take her out of the box and put her
(12:01):
on the main stage and listen to her babbel incoherent
things and have word salads and lose miserably and make
zero gains from the previous election. So now what do
they do? They're trying to figure out who. Corey Booker
seems to be trying to make some noise. I don't
know why. No one's interested. No one we know. Gavin
(12:24):
Newsom seems to be the one that's just waiting in
the wings. But he hasn't had a great run, not
as a governor. No, ask the people of California who've
had multiple disasters under his watch. And some of the
reasons that those things got as bad as they did
is because you know, he's looking out for donors and
people that need water and those kinds of things, or
(12:46):
so they say, or so they say. And now we've
got someone that people are saying, well, maybe there is
a real candidate out there. Maybe they've got one that
is waiting in the wings. They have a candidate that
we all know him. We all know the name, we
(13:09):
all know him. Maybe for infamous reasons, I don't know,
but it's yes, Representative Eric Swalwell. That's right. He has
been one of those guys who any opportunity he gets
to try to sit in on a committee and make
a point, usually embarrasses himself says something really stupid. We
(13:31):
all know, wasn't he dating a spy? Chinese spy? I mean,
this is not exactly someone anyone would have thought could
potentially bubble up, could rise in the rankings as someone
who might be on the radar. But apparently there's people
saying it and Swalwell is doing his best to go
(13:54):
after that all coveted male vote because we learned from
this past election with Trump. If you get on the
good graces of Joe Rogan, if you can get on
Kill Tony, if you can get on some of these
podcasts and have a strong male audience, right then you
got a shot you reach them. Because the reason that
(14:17):
the male audience, I think, in my opinion, has become
so prominent and so sought after is I think we
have a lot of Americans and it's coming out, especially
in male comedians that are just fed up with the
whole PC thing. They're fed up with the woke thing.
They're fed up with being told you have to do this,
you have to do that, and pretending that we're doing
it for some greater good. Because there's a number of
(14:39):
things that were just this is for the greater good.
You can't drive this kind of car anymore, you can't
have this kind of shower, you can't have this kind
of stove in your kitchen. And you watched all of
these comedians that we're talking about all flocked to Texas
for freedom. We've watched businesses and people that make lots
(14:59):
of of money moved to places like Texas, Georgia, Florida,
trying to get away from California and New York. It's
only going to get worse if they make the wrong call.
They're just it feels like one vote away from making
a really bad call for New York City when it
comes to the mayor. But anyway, so Eric Swalwell decides
(15:23):
he's going to get on social media and he's really
going to court these He's going to court these male voters.
And Congress took an early like they were. They had
their leave planned. They took it a little bit early
because I don't even know it was really that early,
but they took it a little bit early. They had
their August recess just a little bit early, just a
(15:46):
couple of days, that's all it was. Now Eric Swalwell
accuses the leadership of hey, we're trying to get us
out of there so that we can't have any kind
of a vote. Concerning the Epstein files, this is the
one thing that they're ready to die on. They're convinced
there's something horrible in these Epstein files. By the way,
(16:06):
all of the Epstein file intelligence has been in the
hands of the Biden administration. It was in the hands
had the Harris camp would have had access to it.
No discussion anywhere in there about Trump, no accusations of
(16:27):
him being involved. But that's the accusation now, is that
this is the reason that they were cut loose. So
Eric Swallwell made a series of videos where he's one
he's in a pool with his shirt off and he
jumps out of the pool and shoots a basketball and says,
you know, I should be working right now, but I
should be at the Capitol in a suit, but instead
(16:51):
they sent us home. There was one where he is
I guess lifting. He's doing a bench press. I'm pumping
out iron at the gym instead of working right now
because Republicans shut down Congress. And there he is bench
pressing one hundred and thirty five or one hundred and
(17:13):
forty five pounds? How much is it? One hundred and
thirty five pounds, that's what he's doing, So that's two
forty five pound weights and the bar right that comes
up to one thirty five. You can tell I'm not
a gym I mean I go to the gym. I'm
not a gym guy. Like when I hear people talk
(17:33):
about the weights. I go, that's ninety pounds. I'm aware
that there's a weight to the bar. I just don't
think of it immediately to that. Jim people do. Jim
people have called out Eric Swallwell for trying to use
this as some kind of a pr move to court
male voters, like testosterone driven male voters are going to go, man,
I got bench pressing. Look at that. At least he
(17:57):
has a shirt on in the bench press video. He
did not when he's in the pool. So he's made
these videos and he's basically just saying, yes, this is
what they're doing instead of talking about Epstein. They're forcing
me to make these silly videos. This is an attempt
at getting on the radar. I'll say this. I like
(18:17):
it better than Corey Booker screaming at everybody. I mean,
they're both lame attempts, but it is better than being
screamed at. Today's show brought to you by Columbus State
University's Coca Cola Space Science Center.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Hey everyone, this is doctor Sean Crusin. I'm the executive
director of Columbus State University's Coca Cola Space Science Center.
I want to tell you about a very special exhibit
that we have on display the summer. It's so big
that it can't even fit in our own exhibit gallery.
It's just too many pieces. This is a collection of
(18:51):
items from the personal collection of astronaut David R. Scott.
Dave Scott flew on Gemini eight with Neil Arms, he
flew on Apollo nine, a dress rehearsal for the moon landing,
and then most importantly perhaps he commanded Apollo fifteen, where
he became the first person to ever drive a car
on the service of the Moon. Because Dave's brother, Tom
(19:14):
lived and worked here in Columbus, Georgia, with our Columbus
Chamber of Commerce, we got to be good friends with Tom.
Tom has coordinated a very generous donation of artifacts and
memorabilia from the Scott Brothers collection to us here at
Coca Cola Space Science Center. And again, that collection got
so overwhelmingly large we couldn't put it on display here.
(19:35):
That's why we're doing the exhibit at the Bow Bartlet Center.
They are open from eleven am to four pm Tuesday
through Saturday. Go down and check out this great exhibit
on display at the Bow Bartlet Center. Check out all
the other wonderful pieces of artwork down there as well,
and then come visit us here at Columbus State University's
Coca Cola Space Science Center.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Today show brought to you by Overhead Door Company of Columbus.
For all of your garage door need, commercial or residential.
Maybe you have regular maintenance that it's time for. It's
always good to get maintenance on anything that has parts
that move and have electronics. The folks at Overhead Door
Company of Columbus can take care of square in that
(20:17):
away for you, and while they're there, you can always
ask them questions about some of the maybe cosmetic changes
you'd like to make to your garage door. Maybe your
curb appeal isn't quite what you want it to be
and you need some repair work done to the outside door.
Maybe you need a brand new garage door completely. Maybe
it's making a noise when your garage door opens and closes.
(20:38):
Maybe it's some sort of installation issue that you've got
with colder or warmer weather. Sometimes that stuff gets in
and it's inconvenient. Maybe you're looking at a situation where
you'd like to add a screen door to your garage
door system that you can put down, and you can
use your garage space as a sort of outdoor but indoor.
You know, if you like to work on your own
(20:59):
car in there, or maybe you just want a little
man cavid, you'd like to be able to open the
door up and not invite all the insects in. Uh,
they can do that for you as well. And again
they do after hours calls. There's nothing worse than that
thought of having your car trapped inside your garage and
your garage door won't open and you need somebody to
come help, and they do those as well. Seven oh
(21:21):
six thy five eight forty five hundred seven oh six

more West Carol Morning Show right after the break. Well,
it's never too early to think about fall. We still
(21:41):
have another hot month ahead of us, but we can
start thinking about fall. We can start looking to post
labor day, right, we can start thinking about that. Uh,
So let's think about fall TV with basically TV programming
are basically saying you're gonna have to wait until fall
(22:05):
because that's what we do, that's what you do. They're
fully capable of bringing new programming before fall. But that's
just the way things have always worked, and they're continuing
to do that. The only non sports or game shows
that premiere before September Dancing with the Stars season thirty
four really and the last year's breakout hit High Potential.
(22:32):
NBC gets their new year started September twenty second with
the twenty eighth season of The Voice and the second
season of Brilliant Minds. Fox gets underway September twenty third
with Murder in a Small Town, the second season for that.
My friend Kristin Kruk on that show, I know she
was excited about getting a second season for that show,
(22:55):
and then the show doc CBS starting their new schedule
September twenty fourth with season forty nine of Survivor Wow,
and then they'll all be on the apps the next day,
and it's just back to that point that they could
do it these shows. They don't have to go to
the traditional network route for any of these shows. They
(23:15):
get premiere shows anytime they want to. But they're still
sticking with this old formula, and you know, I guess
there's a certain amount of familiarity to that. I guess
Dad's gone viral after being just exhausted at his daughter's
wedding reception and see Chad Anderson, whose daughter Justice, got
(23:36):
married in Butler, Missouri, gained social media fame for dramatically
expressing his desire to leave the celebration after his social
battery ran out and most guests had left. His wife
was still socializing. Chad lay on the floor inside the venue,
pressing his face and hand against the glass doors, and
a humorous display of exhaustion. You may have seen this online.
(23:57):
A friend capture the moment on video, which Justice later
posted on TikTok with a caption when your mom is
being a little social butterfly, but your dad's ready to
leave the video game. Fifteen million views, four million likes.
The family was both surprised and amused by the response online.
We just didn't know how much it would it would
blow up the way that it has. So it's a
(24:19):
fun story and making the most of something that was
going on at a wedding. This guy was ready to go.
I've been there. Social battery, man, it runs out, and
you're just like, it's time to go right now? What
is the ideal bedtime? Bedtimes are probably a topic of
discussion right now as many schools in the area getting
started back, some of them today and some getting started
(24:42):
back next week. So it depends on the person, and
I guess the age of people as well. But if
your goal is to be more physically fit, you may
want to get to bed earlier. A study of nearly
twenty thousand people found that people who went to bed
around nine pm were more likely to wake up energized
and ready to move more exercise than night owl counterparts.
(25:03):
Even if you get the same amount of sleep, the
timing matters. Early sleep were squeezed in fifteen to thirty
more minutes of physical activity the next day compared to
those who stayed up late. So if your goal is
a healthier lifestyle, it might be time to just get
to bed earlier. It's not a bad idea if you're
(25:24):
capable of doing it. Not everybody is. Some people have
kids that are staying up and you got to you know,
in some cases you got to make sure the kids
get to bed. In some cases, maybe you snore and
your wife likes to get a head start and go
to bed before you do. Not speaking of experience or anything,
is it time for a spacation. Well, some people crave
(25:45):
adventure on vacations. Others want to just party and hang
out and others just want to chill. And that's where
the spacation comes along. New travel trend. It's all about
relaxation and pampering yourself. Massages, facials, wellness activities. Focus on
self care, away to unwind and recharge without that stress
that often accompanies vacations. Yeah, but you could still stress
(26:11):
about that vacation, right if you have anxiety, be about
way from things or fomo if you experience fomo and
all those sorts of things. So if you want an
instant boost in mental health, they say taking a trip
will help. According to a new survey, the average person
reports feelings seventy percent better mentally after taking a trip.
Those who traveled frequently were much more likely to rate
(26:33):
their mental health good as good or excellent compared to
those who did not travel as much. So traveling good
for mental health. Again, unless traveling brings you stress. And
if you find yourself crawling into bed only to have
your brain rehash every cringey thing that happened to you
over the last ten years, you may have turned on
(26:54):
the TV for a distraction. And while that was previously
thought to be a no no, studies are now saying
it might not be a big deal. Seems that it
really depends on the person. Screens emit blue light which
can interrupt circadian rhythms. And if you like watching a
little TV as part of your bedtime routine, though, it
becomes just that routine and you can actually help with
(27:16):
reducing nighttime anxiety. And they say it's important to keep
the volume low though and dim the screen if possible.
So if your TV has a timer, set it to
go off after about thirty to sixty minutes, that'll do
it for this Thursday edition of the show. Thanks to
our sponsors and patrons. Thanks for listening. I'll catch you
back here tomorrow morning.
