Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the second half of Tom's Polka Party
right here at kmy T. On the program today, we
are going back to last year's Katati Accordion Festival, where
he recorded a lot of the music on my iPhone.
Enjoy the twenty twenty four Katati Accordion Festival. And it's
just not polk music. It's music in and around accordions.
(00:24):
Even those classical trained accordionists can play at polka. But
there are great accordion sounds from all over the world.
And this was one of my favorite bands this year,
and I was glad to have met this gentleman. He
did not speak very much English, and I was actually
able to carry a conversation with him in Spanish, and
I was proud of myself for being able to do that.
(00:46):
We're going to listen to the Alejandro Britis trio. He's
originally from Argentina and now lives in Brazil. The Alejandro
Britis trio.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Di aything th th.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Alejandro britest with one called on my Day I la Distancia. Well,
I want to play one more from Alejandro. Unfortunately I
only got to record one of his songs there at
Katati Live. My battery and my phone died. Of course,
that's always what happens to these high tech devices. But
I did pick up a c D and we'll play
(07:12):
one more from Alejandro Brites. This is called Laberintos you.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Talk to art.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
That of course was Corey Pestito playing a little jazz
and the piece is called jazz at Primus ecalo in
that particular piece started with the song that I knew
called Caravan. Corey doing a great job on that. I'd
like to describe Corey like this. If you took Elvis, Presley,
Dick Contino, Alex Mikester and an orange accordion threw it
(13:43):
all on a blender, that's what you would end up with.
Quite an entertainer, Corey is something else and always a
great staple at the Katatian Quity Festival. Unfortunately he didn't
get to play in the Bulka tenth this year because
he was on stage every time the Bailes band was plane.
But did get to see Corey and always a pleasure
(14:03):
to see him play.
Speaker 3 (14:05):

And I hope too that we get to see them
again next year. At the thirty fourth annual Katatia Accordian Festival,
Disco's Asaka Collective featuring Mariposa Del Alma and Deuce Eclipse
in one of my favorite moments from the festival this year,
I did not get videotaped or audio taped. And what
(46:34):
it was was after one of those fine songs from
the band I believe it was, Marina Mesa of Matapolsa's
Del Alma looked over, saw me standing near the stage
and shouted out we want to say hi to our
new friend Polkatam out there and the people in the
audience even cheered for me. In all the years I've
gone to the Katati Accordian Festival, I've never had someone
(46:56):
call out my name while they're performing.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
So thank you.
