Speaker 3 (00:36):
Cast a line out and stay awhile the Trilogy Outdoors

wake zone. If you think the public landing on a
Saturday afternoon is entertaining, just sit back and enjoy the
next couple of hours of your Saturday morning with the
Grand Strand's longest running outdoor radio show. Captain Ee and
the crew want to help make your time on the

(00:57):
water less stressful and more successful. Let's send it to
the crew and the Sparks Toyota Tundras Studio.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
All right, folks, good morning, and welcome to Trilogy Outdoors
Radio Show. We're coming to you live via the Toyota
Tundra Studio presented by Sparks Toyota where the dealer's always.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
In, and by Key West Boats and Marrison, Marino, Lick
City and Georgetown.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Where every day is a boat show every day. Hey,
And we're coming to your prom via the Pond Road
Storage Studio. Of course, our good friends over here at
Palm Road Storage keeping us and my boat and and
everything else over here nice and warm, not having any
trouble keeping it warm right now. What we're having trouble
doing is keeping it cool. But we're trying. We're trying.

(01:38):
We've been we've been doing what we've been doing the
best we can. I think Tony agrees, or Ship, you
probably conpeeling that when when you got ice in that
evaporative cooler, it's not bad. It's actually cold air.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Listen, the time before last at me and Ship was here,
we were still complaining about it being cold.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah, that's right, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Well, I don't think we've got to worry about that today,
because I'm gonna tell you that Rapert and I spent
quite a few hours mounting that TV up there, and
it was in a fine job I may say, yep, yeah,
I will say that that was a It would have
been a three men job. And you know why you
need three because you got to have two people to

(02:18):
put it together and one that would have taken their
time and read the instructions. They would have saved them
about two hours of.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Work, let's call corrections.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
I'm not lying. So it's all held together obviously by
that ratchet strap, by the tide down.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
That's the whole thing that I'll give you a thumbs
up on that that took a lot of searching.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Is designed for porches, for patios and for gazebos, like
to hang it on the gazebo.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
And when you have a building that you're not allowed
to just screw holes in, it makes things difficult. But
I'd say you did a good job McGovern and got
the ratchets straps guvered up.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
You got it, baby, as you done the deal.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
So we'll be able to watch the baseball game, which
congratulations to Coastal. Make it it uh one more step
closer to Natty Natty Championship number two.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
We'll find out tonight and noble touch Coastal. I don't
they've got it going on, dude, they got it.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
They're they're rolling, they are.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
And all the other teams had to play an extra game.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
And then the Bakele touch Coastal. I'm proud of those boys.
They look awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
I think in that elimination set up, that that elimination
deal if if you're if you win that first game
and you can get that by that that that little
bit of time between games, yep, that that's the key.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Oh and this heat it and you don't want to
play the extra game, which is burning up your pission.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
That's right.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
So last night on it, well the other night when
I was watching Arkansas at us SHIA, I was pulling
for Arkansas because that way, if Arkansas would have won,
that would have acquired another game on Friday, which would
have put more pitching on the field and would have
put Coastal even better position than they were. Yep. So

(04:11):
you know, it's like the ninth then, and I thought
Arkansas was gonna pull it off. But let's sho it
is it is L s U.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yes, all right, and and L s U they history
they go play to nine. Yeah, they they've got a
pretty good history there at the n C Double A Baseball.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Who is Coastal's next game.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
With l s U. It is L s U all
the games to best two out of three Saturday night.
I think it's seven o'clock ESPN. I believe seven o'clock.
That would be the first game, best of three.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
And that'll be the championships.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
Nice, So if they told off two games, they're gonna
win national championship.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
The way Coastal's pitching is looking, yep, the way their
bats are operating. They got the best catch, the best
catcher better in the entire country. That's gonna be first
round draft pick for some lucky baseball teaks. He can hit,
and it won't.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Be the Braves, I can promise you.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
But uh uh as bad as they need him, you know,
I know. It's just wanted to give a shout out
to the local boys. They've done really good. Maybe it
maybe they worked their butts off get there. Well, they
have won twenty five games in a row, which has
unheard of us.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Jesus, listen, we are this is uh, this is what
Rayburn and I were talking about. We all become CCU
fans at this point. I mean, well we have become,
but but we all are pulling hard for their Their
fan base is huge. I don't I don't know if
you can see it, but on the back of that

(05:51):
recliner over there by the way, that thing is electric
in case you were wondering. You just sit in it
and it moves and does everything. But if you roll
that down, that is a Coastal Carolina that is for
putting on the If you open the trunk of your
car tailgating, it sits down in the trunk and leans
over so you can sit on it to just hang out.

(06:14):
That is from I got that in two thousand twelve
or thirteen in a gift pack at a raffle somewhere
and I found it when I was cleaning out Winston's.
I had to clean out a bunch of stuff out
of Winston storage out of his other storage unit and
had to get it out of there, and I found it,

(06:34):
and I was like, oh, this is perfect. I'm bringing
it over here and setting it up.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Well, what's happened when Coastal is there? You know, they
were not even ranked a lot of the year, but
they're come in a powerhouse in baseball to draw players
into their program. Yep, I mean the coach's first year.
He stepped into a really nice program when he came

(06:59):
in to these guys are will be destination football players
want to play a coastal which means they can be
in Conway, which means they can be around here. And
anybody want to decide to go fishing, and they may
decided to go hunting, and that might be part of
the draw, or it might be the ladies in the
beginnings at the beach.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Oh why would I mean, why would somebody want to
come here to school?

Speaker 5 (07:21):
I don't understand it.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
You think local scenery would have nothing to.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
Do no springing and the springing, the falling seven and
seven around the school. Now, there's no reason you want
to come here. No, no, wait a minute. You you
actually pay attention when you go there. I'm a very
You're more.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Worried about traffic, don't lie.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Yeah, I pay attention to my heart. I'm very focused
on my driving. Yeah, you were way more worried about it.
Even when I'm stopped at the traffic light, I'm still focused,
all right.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
So pred I'm trying to one thing I'm learning right
now about this new setup. I can't see the time
on the on the screen. So I'm trying to keep
our time schedule, but I can't see it. But I
think we're good still.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
I was gonna say that I love the way you
did it, but it looks like it's gonna present some Well.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Here's the deal. In a podcast where we're here for
an hour or to an hour and a half just
talking straight up, it's good. But in this situation, it
is going to be a little bit.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Situation is that the man in charge on the board
can't see the board.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I can't see the boards. They're under the table.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
Hey, but like limitation.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Hey, but like Dieter said, Dieter said, when you walk
into our studio, it looked more like we were saying
or I was saying because but I was saying, hey,
look at me. We got all this equipment and the
best thing to do would be to have it clean
and out the way at all, especially you know, to
switch over to video. So I took his advice and

(08:54):
we put it to use. And thank you Dieter, who
has checked in and with us and had a great
time with all of y'all. By the way, he was
glad he got to meet everybody and hang out and
he will be back a lot sooner than later. But
he does want to go pishing with that man over there.
And I knew that was gonna come, but I told him,
I said, dude, it ain't near cold enough. I say,

(09:17):
you wait till he gets cold. And then when when
it's cold, you go fishing with pread. And then you
get down there and you get an edumacation and you
get to go to National Geographic. That's when you don't
care about catching them. It's more about looking at him.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
Yeah, I mean you can, you can catch a few
and then just watch. I mean you just appreciate what
you're looking at. So we did that with a drone.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
So we didn't get listen. I'm getting ready to give
him pre advertising Swell Pro have y'all name ring a
Bell Swell Pro. So they are a company that builds
drones poor surf fishing okay, And they are in town
this weekend today doing a demo on Yucca Drive in Garden.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
City to drop your bait offshore.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
To demonstrate their drone and how it works. And I
watched some videos this past week on it. Very interesting.
Their drones are actually they have a night vision on them.
They have the release clip and they can carry a

(10:30):
lot of weight and release and they are extremely apportable.
And so I've got to figure out where how they
made these drones that have all this that a portable.
But I would love to go. I would love to
be able to go see how they work. But unfortunately, sous,
the show's over. I've got to go to North Carolina.
Watched my daughter dance her very last dance of twenty

(10:53):
twenty five, go Peanut in the National championships Hip.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
But swell pro there's an answer to that. That's what
Trump likes to say China.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Well, my only thing with the drones is it all
of us from being around here over the years, we've
learned that most of our quality fish are in the
surf are into breakers. They're they're not way past them.
But with a drone it opens up the big opportunities

(11:29):
for catching torpen and catching kings.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
Yeah that's true.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Well, well listen, we got a great show for you today.
Captain Ravern uh Posting is gonna sit in and talk
about salt Uh. Senator Goldfinch and I sat with Russell
Prye this week. We've got that as well, and a
lot more and I know it's time we're gonna go
to break, but we're gonna come back on the other
side of the break and continue to talk about some
great things that I want to talk about these guys,

(11:58):
and and I want to talk to Fred and particular
how he's handling this heat with Charters, like let's talk
about it, like what's what's some good advice to give
clients or or just recreational fishermen who are out there
fishing in this nasty heat right now you don't get
a hey es, either go fishing or don't. So when
we come back on the other side of break, we'll

(12:19):
cover that. You're listening to Trilogy Outdoors Radio show here
on the Gator one oh seven point nine. All right, folks,
it's kept an e here with Trilogy Outdoors Media, and
it's my pleasure every week to come to you normally
from our Palm Road Storage studio, and I'll tell you
what we are, super excited and very thankful to be

get your name on that list if you're looking, because
I can tell you everybody wants to come here to
ponn Road Storage. And there's a reason. Again. It is
the most state of the art security system, absolutely clean,
taking care of, well maintained, and of course when Elvis
Services is behind it, it's going to be the best
pawn road storage right there on nine thirty En Road

(13:26):
merles Inlet two nine five seven six, just on Old
King's Highway. Come see us.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Now back to the Sparks Toyota Tundras Studio and the
hosts of the Trilogy Outdoors Radio show on Gator one
oh seven point nine.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Hi folks, here we are Trilogy Outdoors Radio Show coming
to you, and we're in the Pawn Road Storage studio
of course, but we're coming via that Toyota Tundra Studio
presented by Sparks Toyota where the dealer is always.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
In and we're brought to you by Key West Boats
and morph Marina, Blake City and Georgetown.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Every day day is a boat show every day, Tony,
You're you're sitting, I'm over here trying to get your
bike level right, and you're like going and then all
of a sudden, every and I'm are you redlines, but
I got you, I got you back. No, you're good man. Listen,
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Emphasized every day for these people, every day. It ain't
just on Tuesdays or both day, every day.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
That's right. Hey, listen, pred let's talk. You know, I
guess you are doing such an incredible job with our
good friendship Richard. You got him back out there again
this week.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
Yeah, you got an invite.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Well, I want to hear about it, y'all. Let's let's
talk about it real quick. And I'm guessing you all
shows mertles in it and went into the new ships, right, Yes,
chef founder the chif finder, that's it.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
Yeah, No, it was great once again, had Fred on
the bot. You know, it worked out beautifully because geographically
this is not Merle's inlet, is not his area of expertise,
so we were working together. Uh. He helped me find bait,
uh huh, which has always intimidated me.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
And well we we went twice before and one of
our issues was bait was bait. Yeah, so today we
saw that with Mullet An then Hayden.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I think Tony will tell you that one thing about
merles Inlet is as far as bait, you need to
know the spots to go one like and and where
you know your place. I mean, I know when I've
been with you where we're going. We're gonna we're gonna
look behind Marshall Island, the islands, right, we're gonna back
there in the back of uh Muddy Bay. We're at

(15:46):
no Man's and and and those are you know, well
ours is a little different, and it's a lot smaller
areas and not quite as much bait. So you really
got to be key to that. And you know, typically
you can go set up when the mullet are running
on any beach what either north or side, south side,
Oaks Creek or the Garden City side and just sit
on the beach and wait for him. But well sometimes

(16:07):
we can't all wait.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
Well, today we were at speed when I saw the
man a oh really and so and I've got to
have it. And I'm running creeks. I'm always looking up
the creeks and what I'm looking for is reds mostly,
But every creek I go by, I'm looking down that creek.
People are looking at me, like what are you looking at?
And my surroundings. We went by this creek and I

(16:30):
saw them in there, and there was a bunch of
them in there, and I knew it, and and I
just got Chefs to flip around. And so we go
in there and one of the coaching things, which is
from No Old King Fishing Days, is up. You get
the net ready, yep, and you wait for one of
them to flip, and when one of us in net
range and wait on even to flip. If you hit

(16:52):
that flip, you go get a net full, which that's
what Chef experienced today.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
And so we hit an It's amazing to see an
uploaded net.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Yeah, I mean it was there.

Speaker 7 (17:06):
I think that y'all should explain what a floating net
is because I didn't know.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Oh great, there's so many in the net. They swim
the net up. It actually floats to the top.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
It does.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
It's visually unbelievable. I thought I've set the people. I
thought that I was caught.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
On an oyster bed that's all heavy.

Speaker 7 (17:28):
And I said to Fred, can you move the boat
so I can get this up, And it's like he's
backing it up.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
I'm already back through internet. I started backing up.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
Yeah, he started backing up right away, and I'm thinking
to myself, he's going the wrong way.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
Well, well, so we went on a spot. He had
a red fish bike. I caught one on top end
of the tide.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
And another cool thing that that Captain Fred did today
as far as sort of pushing me a little bit,
he was saying, whenever you go out, no matter when
you go out, fish fisher spots, but fish you an
area you haven't fished before. Every trip, with every trip
with me, I have to admit that do you hear that?

(18:12):
That is where I false you hear them?

Speaker 6 (18:14):
Well?

Speaker 5 (18:14):
And I explained it. I explained myself on a charter,
if you're going to charter with me, one of spots
that we're going to fish, I haven't fished. In other words,
I know these places, I have history in them, but
I haven't said I haven't been there three weeks or
a month. I'm gonna go hit a spot that I
hadn't hit for at least twenty minutes.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Is that more so now that you got a boy,
you've got a little bit older, or no, you've always
don't always done that.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
That's a good.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
Well let's say we go to a spot, we have
a good day. Well, you keep hammering that spot day
after day after that after day, guess what happened. So
you need to have somewhere else. You need to have
one more than one spot that Okay, this isn't producing today.
I can go run to this spot. Well, I went
two days ago when I was just scouting, and I
found fish in this spot that nobody's been pounding on,

(19:04):
and I'll go hit that one. So it always gives
you one more spot. Just to like, it's different from
me than it is for chef, because Chef's gonna go
to spots he does not know at all. But it's
also going to educate him where he might have some luck.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
And you, you and I both know that.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
I've said it for a long time. I don't mean
to cut you off. You'd it for a long time. Uh,
you can spend every day learning or most of the
time losing Yeah, that's great. That's just you always want
to learn something as a fisherman. When you go out
you depend on the same old, same old, same old,
you will lose most of the time. You have to

(19:41):
read the conditions of what it is in front of
you at that given moment.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
One thing that Captain Jason and I discussed that is
a feature I look for with red fish is this
place we stopped it. I want to be specific, Well,
were starting to this spot and it was the mouth
of two creeks, not one, So it was a why
anywhere there's an intersection, if you've got an y or tea,
that's generally a red fish spot, and this fish was

(20:06):
right in the grass. I had myself right out in
the grass on high water, and there's other places in
Merle's Inlet that I think are gonna produce better than
what we saw today. If I brought my forty pounds
setups on my heavier sticks yep, and put four rods out,
I'm pretty confident that we could go over there and
probably smack them.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Tell everybody why you would bring a heavier setups.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
Well, because I'm gonna put the bait in the grass
and when he says in the grass. He means in
the grass.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Oh, I'm well aware.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
But to find that a little better that I'm not
just throwing it up in the middle of the marsh grass.
I'm looking for sparse grass along the edges where it's
not as thick. Usually you'll have a thicker wall of
heavier spartana grass, and then out in front of that
you get this kind of grass that's not as tight together.
It's usually around the worship beds and stuff. And I
will throw the bait literally in that grass. And it

(20:56):
could be cut mullets, it could be cut manhaid, and
it could be live or both men. And I'll give
you another trick, and Captain Chris and I'll discussed this
one too with Men hay If you throw live Men
Hayden out in that situation in the grass, what they're
gonna do is they gonna swim in a circle and
they will wrap you, wrap you, wrapping up. So I'm
done this King fishing with big baits, clip their tail off.

(21:16):
If you go fishing live, just take your scissors. And
I've always got a pair of scissors on the boat.
Just clip his tail off. Throw them up in there now,
you still fishing live bait, but he can't swim in
a circle anymore. That makes him very attractive, so and
it keeps you prevents you from wrapping up mullets. Won't
do that if the water's muddy, which is we had
the other day with all the rain we had last week,

(21:37):
and the low tide is muddied up Georgetown, a cup
bait's best because they can smell it versus having a
seat if the water's not real clear. But the water
here today, to me is relatively clear. The live baits
are the work been just as effective as a cut
bake today.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
I have seen it. There's several different ways you can
do things. Everybody has their own preference. Like you said,
you clip the tail. You can also eliminate some of
that by the way you hooked the bait, whether you
nose hook it or teal hooked.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
Well, that was something else that we discussed today's chef.

Speaker 7 (22:07):
Yeah about you taught me that about don't hook it
through the bottom lip and the top lip, because then
the fish can breathe.

Speaker 5 (22:16):
On a man on a mullet, on a mullet on
a mullet, you can go through the bottom of his chin.
Out through the top. Men Hayden, I don't like cooking
him sideways, so I do. He's opening their mouth and
bring it up through.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
You just said, I nose hooked my men Hayden when
I'm blounder fishing, and I don't go through the lips
at all, just like you're rigging a kingfish rigged, and
they seem to last a lot longer doing that.

Speaker 5 (22:41):
Well, the rig I was on today was a jighead,
soad not gonna work. I threw a jackhead and had
it up open his mouth, stuck it up through the
roof of his mouth and out through the tower.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
That would be it. That'd be the way to do it.

Speaker 5 (22:56):
And but one thing I the chef, learned it. You know,
you learn something every day, you literally do, but that
a manhaden you cannot lock his mouth shut because he
opens his mouth to force water through his gills, which
a mullet doesn't do. So you've got to make sure
that you leave his bottoms all loose so he can survive.
So one other thing about Manhattan today is we got

(23:17):
towards the end. I noticed if the Menhaden were losing
their slim, and that means they're not as good as
shape as they were when we started.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
So they were losing their slime off their So that's
a live weell issue, right, or that's.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
They've just been in there long enough.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
You know there, I guess you would say up allagic.
They have to have moving water at all time.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Actually, there is a different name for them. They feed there.
It's a filter, uh, Peter. They eat each other's crap. Yeah,
and that's why they swim in circles. And I can't
remember the name. Is that why you always follow me
right behind your right behind you, buddy, hey, right behind you,
right behind you. No plounder or so I know, frids

(24:00):
not you know, doesn't doesn't get into the plounder fishing.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
Well, we did that first. We flying a fish. That's
the first thing we did. So we were we were
in one of the chef spots we had. We've had
some success. Oh give me right behind his boat, yeah,
right behind it. And no, he that was gonna be
his next go spot. So let's go somewhere new.

Speaker 7 (24:18):
That's right, that's what you said.

Speaker 5 (24:20):
Let's go try another spot. Well they went another spot,
had a little bit of success. Learned something today, all.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Right, I want y'all when y'all start experimenting. Now, I
want to challenge y'all to go to two different areas.
I want y'all to go north past the condos. You
know where the condos are. We went there. I want
to go to the condos in north, and I want
to go south from three creeks or from Brigham's Hole
and back and then report back.

Speaker 5 (24:46):
That's going to be very with GPS numbers. Well, I
will say this Captain Chris. When Cheft first got his boat,
CHRISTI and Jason got on the boat with us. It
was low tide. We went up the creek that runs
Jason to the park. Yes, and Chris pointed at some
areas where there might be some red fish. Well, guess
what those areas have? Sparse grass? Mm hm, I bet
I could go right there and catch some right there.

(25:08):
So since that is gonna be, that's gonna be one
of our missions one of these days. A chef and
I get out again.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Well, when you go south and you go past Brigham's
Hole from there on back, it's kind.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
Of like I don't know what Brigham Pole is, so oh,
we gotta get you and you gotta know where that is.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
That's right Oaks Creek and you come around the really
big sand bar and you're right on the low tide. Okay,
you're headed back to what is called Oyster Landing right
and fish and once you pass that, there is a
very very narrow passageway once you get back towards three
Creek that.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
You don't run the bank, you don't run the other bank.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
You have to find that little channel that's washed in
between them two sand bars, and it changes so much,
but once you get past that then it's not near
as bad.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Gotcha. I know some areas just like there, trolling motor
to get in there, but once you're in there, it's okay.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Yeah, all right, hey listen, I'm gonna cut you off.
We'll come right back on the other side of the break, y'all.
We are trying to keep with this clock. Bread is
not only the Redfish Police, he is the time clock police.
And we have got to get out of here and
go to break real quick. Get Jenna working back there
and share some love with our wonderful sponsors that include

(26:23):
Sonic and many more. And speaking of Sonic, if you
don't stop by there and pick up one of the
new Drawberry cream cheese. Oh my cheesecake milkshakes. Oh my god,
you're missing out, y'all. I swear stop in check it
out right now. But we'll be right back on the
other side of the break. We'll talk more about that
and some other thing, including how Fred is dealing with

(26:44):
the heat. Again, I keep mentioning that we are going
to talk about that when we come back. Trilogy Outdoors
Radio show talking pens, fur and feathers right here on
the Gator one oh seven point nine. We all know
that the Inlet rocks when it comes to great fishing
and good times on the boat. Now the description of
why this is so great is now the new baiten
Tackle Shop here to serve a rocking good time to

(27:05):
all the fisheads and anglers out there. Ronald Stalby brings
his enthusiasm, excitement, and genuine care for the angler to
the new store and is ready to serve all your
fishing needs. If it's live bait, hand tied rigs, the
hottest and artificial baits, frozen baits, apparel, and much more,
they have you covered. If you need anything that you
don't see, just let Ronald know stop in and welcome

(27:28):
them into town. And get all the latest report. Inlet
Rocks baiton Tackle opens daily at five thirty am and
is located on seventeen Business, just a quarter miles south
of the merls Inlet Landing.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
Hey all, this is Rush Russ.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
You're listening to the Trilogy Outdoors Radio Show on the
Gator one of seven point nine. All right, folks, welcome
back to Trilogy Outdoors Radio Show, coming to you live
from the Pond Road Storage Studio. But you know the
most important part of that whole puzzle is the Toyota
Tundra Studio, brought to you by Sparks Toyota, where the

(28:01):
dealers always in and where Jenna is back there keeping
all things organized and running. And of course are good
friends at Marshall's Marine and Key West Boats of Lake
City in Georgetown, where every day's a boat show. And
I'm gonna have to get a hot key that says
every day in the background. And coming to you from

(28:23):
a very balmy Pond Road storage studio that has undergone
once again another facelift by myself. As I am on
my I don't know what you want to call this rayburn,
but it is the standing joke. Is this this is

(28:48):
my pig with a lipstick. Pig with lipstick, That's what
I call this. I continually trying to update, upgrade and
get the old studio looking good over here at pon Rope.
And last week with Dieter meil Horn in town, he
gave me some advice and we're setting this thing up
so we can go live feed audio, video and audio

(29:11):
and Rayburn. You know, everybody wants to see your pretty
face and hear about salt by looking at your face,
but they also I want to supply a wonderful place
for you to come over and shoot some of your
salt videos, which, by the way, you are will be
more than welcome to come use the studio once I
get set up, and I'm actually gonna have an area

(29:32):
we're gonna build, you know, create a little area up
here that you know, esthetically to the eye that walking up,
they're just gonna look like a like a weird small
area with nothing on it. But when we pull the
cameras in and everything else is, it'll be you or
me or somebody standing there rigging stuff. But obviously you
know who my next guest is, and that is coach

(29:52):
Captain Rayburn posting of salt and the FCA fishing and Rayburn.
Cheers to you, brother, and good to see you.

Speaker 8 (29:59):
Happy to you here. And I've been in the studio
a few times and it keeps looking better. I mean,
where else can you go? And uh hang out with
your boat? I mean you got a beautiful key with
over there, Thank you and uh man, every time you
step away to do something, I'm over there looking on
that boat. I mean key with doing a great job
designing that boat. Every year they get better.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Well, listen, I appreciate it, and that's very kind words
of you. And I feel the same way. You know,
I've been so fortunate over the last twelve to thirteen
months to enjoy that twenty five. And you know, we
joke around. There's no doubt that if you were given
a choice between eighteen poot or twenty foot boat, what

(30:41):
are you gonna take twenty? If you're giving a choice
in the sixteen or an eighteen foot boat, where are
you gonna take twenty? There actually are you know, incidents
in instances where when I'm giving a choice of the
twenty five or the twenty three, had had I had
a choice going forward, Okay, let's just let's let'sypathetically look
at this, because hypothetically and well and realistically, I don't

(31:07):
have a choice. So the two point thirty, the twenty
twenty six two thirty is excitingly awaited by myself and Russ. Russ,
of course, but we are we are super excited about it.
But that tupippy has been wonderful. I was showing you
that colping box on there probably is the is the

(31:31):
other than having that two put a difference When the
ocean gets a little snotty makes a difference, it does.
It makes a world a difference. You cannot deny to
put making a big difference.

Speaker 8 (31:41):
One thing I've learned from having a boat, starting with
a seventeen going to twenty one now twenty two. The
bigger the boat, the lest chance I get to fish,
because people assume that you got a bigger boat. When
you invite a friend, well they seem to want to
invite a friend. No, No, invite a friend. Those you
got those friends that do that.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
Yeah, it's tough man. It's hard for me to say no.

Speaker 8 (32:06):
I've learned in this retirement and this new adventure to
say no a little bit more than I invite too.
But when it comes to fishing. I mean, it's it's
tough to say no, but sometimes you got to rayburn.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
I'm writing this down right now because and I'm going
to bring this up with the rest of the crew too,
because why is it that I'm guilty? By the way, Lucas,
I know you're listening, I'm I'm very guilty. Okay. Why
is it that we feel when we're invited in it?
And this goes beyond just fishing. Why is it that

(32:40):
we feel like and because I'm getting ready to clarify
me why I do Why is it that we feel
like we have it's like instantly almost I'll have people
that I'll invite fishing and I'll hear yes, but like
it'll be like the yes, but like the b is
like starting at the e yes, Buck can I you know?
But why is it that it's that that we always

(33:02):
want to bring somebody or invite to take somebody with us.
Do you think it is?

Speaker 6 (33:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (33:08):
And you obviously have friends Jamie Carson. And one thing
about Jamie, you know he's he's the vice president in
Florence Anderson Brothers Bank.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (33:19):
One thing about Jamie if he's bringing somebody. Next thing,
I know, we got another partner with Salt, and I
don't mind that. You know, Jamie has said I want
to bring so and so. Is it okay if they
bring their son to immediately? I know I'm not fishing,
but I'm going to do my best to put those
guys on fish.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
Talk to them about Salt, talk to them about fc A.

Speaker 8 (33:39):
And next thing, I know, you know, we got a
new sponsor on board.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
So I don't mind that.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Well, I am texting with uh the gentleman that I'm
getting ready to to I'm getting ready to accept that
I'm guilty and and that is Patrick's parks. And I'm
just gonna be honest in most incidents for me, Okay,
in most instances for me, it is truly because I

(34:08):
want to share the experience with a print, right, and
I'm being honest.

Speaker 8 (34:12):
Like we started fish, yep, you exactly, You ran all right.
So here's how I got into fishing in maryldven full
time football all the boat ran into English and on England.
Since we were in high school and he was at
the he was that he was at Lake City and
I was at Winnisburg Academy. Went to college together ran
into English and English. His first thing is, dude, did

(34:34):
I see you on a boat? I'm like, yeah, I
bought a boat. I'm a bath fisherman. I don't know
how to catch salt with a fish. You take me
and Jamie out for seven hours and we gave you
a little money, and back then it was a little money.
Thank you for accepting that little bit of money. We
called a ton of fish, hit some community spots.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
We had fun.

Speaker 8 (34:51):
But the thing is, you know you want to catch
some fish whenever you go out looking out.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Look, what has happened to you since we went.

Speaker 6 (34:59):
The A lots have and you changed my life?

Speaker 1 (35:01):
No, I'm not looking at it like that. And this
is another one where you know.

Speaker 8 (35:05):
Midlife crisis guys. I didn't. There was no woman involved.
And they say you named your boat after a lady. Yep,
so you know I'm on Shelby Gene two now. So
that's my mama's names.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Well, that's that's a good one to name it after.
I have not been kind enough to marry Glover and
named any mine mary. But mine are so appropriate named
not mine, I mean they are, well, that's appropriate, it's
very appropriate. But you know, I think back, and I
go back and I look back, and I'm you know,
I'm gonna bounce around a little bit. But I think

(35:39):
back to when we first went, when you and I
first went, and you were like, Salt wasn't even a
thing like real life. You remember, right, Salt. I don't
think had even started yet, had you or were you
doing the beast thing?

Speaker 8 (35:52):
The background on Salt is we started the Tiger England
that Conway, and right off the bat we were top
five team in the Stay.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
YEP.

Speaker 8 (36:00):
Didn't want us stay championship, but the notoriety was there,
and you were adamant about helping us raise money where
you brought all your friends to Conway High School and
we had really good fundraisers YEP, and that field at
our dispenses, but all these parents were calling me and
principals were calling me, and you know, I sat down

(36:24):
with the school district and offered to be the fishing
coach for the school. Didn't want to die from it,
and liability wise, they couldn't handle that. If you got
three or four lake houses, that saying tea, I can't
be in but one place. But they were cool about,
you know, we'll send people your way, you covering the
liability with Salt, And that's kind of how we started it,
just so other kids could participate.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
You know.

Speaker 8 (36:46):
We had kids from soccer see the Leedfords. Yep, they
proved to Conway to be on the fish.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
On the team. Yeah, I'm trying to what's the daz's name, Scott. Yeah,
they're great people, man.

Speaker 6 (36:57):
Alan and Colton.

Speaker 8 (36:59):
Yeah, well fishing at Clemson for a little while and
Colton he's in with the turkeys.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Now.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Well, I know, in some way, shape or form, I
am told now, whether I know it or not or
realize it. But just like you mentioned about me and
Palm Meta State Armory, right, is when you do your
job the right way, it should become second nature and
you should all you should truly forget that you're doing

(37:26):
your job. And that that says a lot. That's pretty
that that it's hard to do because there's you know,
especially when you've got sponsors that are outside the box.
And that goes through with Salt and with Trilogy Outdoors,
when you got sponsors that are outside of that box.
But the other thing is for the most part, like

(37:47):
you know, generally sitting around like it's it's not hard
that ps A comes up and some conversation is about fishing, tackle, guns,
something involving that you can find at p s A.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
Well.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
You can also find it at Pauly the Island Outdoors.
You can find it at in lit Rock's baiton Tackle,
you can find it at Perry's Baton Tackle, Herbie Street's
Board and Goods. You can find it at all those locations,
and uh, you know it's but it's just weird that
some things just you know you they fire it right
off your lips and you This is where I was

(38:19):
getting with this was everybody talks about how much they
hear salt on the radio show, and I'm like, good,
we're doing our job. Like we're doing our job. That's
all I need. And you know, it's not a paid promotion.
And as I have said, more so in the last
three months than I've done in the last thirteen years,

(38:40):
we do not mind promoting not for profit things. But
where we have to draw the line is when it
is a poor profit event that only people are putting
money into the pocket and it's not going to anything good.
I was the one that said all along, you've got

(39:01):
to start making money. You've got to be making money
off this, and it's got to become a job. And
once it became a job for you, look at what's
happened with Salt. It has absolutely grown exponentially. It is
I mean, it's so much better. The experiences are incredible.
The kids, the kids love it, the schools love it.
I mean, it's you know, it's it's it's bad ass

(39:24):
to have been a part of this since day one.
Like I feel like we've been part of this since
day one. And you eat, sleep, drink FCA, Salt and
the Good Lord, and you tie them all in through fishing.
I know that's what your job is supposed to have
been ever since you've partnered with FCA. But the kids

(39:45):
love it. They get excited. And now with like this summer,
and we're gonna talk about that as soon as we
get off this soap box here. But the kids have
opportunities this summer to virtually put fish pictures up.

Speaker 8 (39:59):
Right right, We are partnering with Sonic and each week
if you email me your picture and what grades you're
going to be in, Yep.

Speaker 6 (40:10):
What school?

Speaker 8 (40:10):
If you're homeschool, that's fine too. We love those guys.
They were to have a bunch of pictures. But anyway, Yeah,
and on Sunday I get my wife's a draw name
out the hat. And so far we've had two weeks
in We've had a good many of pictures. It's starting
to grow. But it's a picture off of a boat
or on a boat. It doesn't matter, any picture anywhere,

(40:34):
any fish. I mean, it just gives us a chance
to promote kids fishing. And that's what Salt's all about.
It's about the kids. And you said something about my
face earlier. My face, nobody would want to follow Salt,
not with this big nose.

Speaker 6 (40:49):
But the face of Salt is our kids.

Speaker 8 (40:52):
Pictures of your son holding whether it's a fish or
you know, a trophy or the championship Barty won, or
any kids. You know, they're they're the face of the elite
and when it comes to our kids. You know, over
the years I've been preaching community service. But now that

(41:17):
I'm retired, I've been able to get some sponsors like CCA.
They give us money for community service awards YEP for
Georgetown and the Low Country. And you know, we were
able to give away some gift cards for that. You know,
the extrinsic reward is the gift cards, but the entry
of that rewards is you know that they were able

(41:38):
to help out and on our page, you just be
a maze at some of the comments that they put
when they submit community service. How good it made them
feel to work with these kids, and they were so
happy that they did this and did that. And that's
what it's all about, you know, whether it's spiritually through
Jesus or whether it's in this world as a kind person.

(41:59):
You know, we're trying to create model citizens through SALT
that are willing to sacrifice materialism and sacrifice their time
to help others. Because if we live in a world
like that, what a wonderful world it'll be.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Amen. Wow, dude, that's true. That's the like sermon for
the day right there. Yeah, Hey, you didn't guy, that's
pretty awesome. Dude, Well I tell you that, you know, Salt.
It's it's just so fun to watch now the parents
out there getting excited, enjoying it. And then I go
right back, you know to June the end of school, Uh,

(42:37):
Cody Wilder's recognition for scholarship, you and I being there
with him, you know, at Conway, and he was the
first Conway student to ever receive a best scholarship. Yeah,
all right, now listen, I want to put something into.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
Perspective for you.

Speaker 1 (42:55):
Okay, yeah, how many years has Conway High School been there?
Do you do?

Speaker 2 (42:59):
You know?

Speaker 1 (42:59):
Because I have. I didn't. I wanted to do the research.
But however many years you think about all those graduating classes.

Speaker 8 (43:06):
That was the first time ways an old school. It's
old and we won six state championships bass fishing. Yeah yeah,
oh yeah in about fourteen years. And Cody is the
first one to get a scholarship at a salt period.
We've had some absolute great student anglers fishing college. But

(43:29):
the novelty of fishing in college is if you got
a basketball, you go to Carolina, you go to Clemson,
you go to you know, Newberry, you go to some
of these places. You can be on the club team. Yep,
that's not an issue. Coastal Carolina. You can be on
the club team. Fisher Gallup is going to Coastal Carolina

(43:51):
from what I understand, and that Mark's boy, yep, and
he's going to fish for the China Clubs. And I'm
excited about that. I love fish. I'm gonna miss him
and Kyle. But you know Cody got he got offered.
I mean you made the contact with the coach, and
the coach got with Cody and they recruited him hard

(44:12):
and yep, I'm excited for him.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
I'm texting with Patrick Sparks right now.

Speaker 6 (44:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (44:18):
Patrick actually has seats behind me ye out the Coastal
Carolina football games, and he's a big guy and he's
you know, he stands up you see him. But when
it rains, that's a little area between me and Patrick
that I can stand under and I get wet when
my seats were at so I might chat it up
with him a little bit when it rains. But yes,

(44:40):
far as Porto has been, you know, they're a lot
like Marshall's Marine. When you have events to raise money
for Salt, they do help out. Yeah, you're readily sponsors,
but you like Marshall's Marine. You know, when Jason has
to slam tournament and before when Dan had the special
studs that help out. I mean, everybody seems to want
to help out. I was so all that's greatly appreciated.

Speaker 1 (45:02):
Well, I'm gonna tell you that you we we I'm
I'm going to over the next three weeks, get on
a soapbox for one show, and it may last the
whole show. And it's not just for me. It is
for every tournament director out there, every person that goes,
and it puts the time in that that that makes

(45:26):
the phone calls, that that sits in front of the computer,
that prints paper out, that draws the leader board, that
does when I go on my soapbox, it's gonna be
for every single one of them. And it's it's not
gonna go pretty for some, but for most people, they're
gonna they're gonna respect it, they're gonna appreciate it, and
they're gonna realize where it's coming from. All right, folks, well,

(45:49):
i'll tell you what. We're gonna go to break. We're
go take us take a break right here, and we're
gonna come back next week and finish the rest of that.
Awesome interview with coach Captain Ravern. Always fun to talk
Salt and promote that group. And again, it's a wonderful
group and I'm enjoying so much having my son be
a part of it. And I know we've got a
lot of fathers that are out there that are listening

(46:11):
in right now and probably feel the same exact way
as I do. But we covered a lot of subjects
and Rayburn and I kind of got off on a
long tangent there, and we're gonna wait and we're gonna
share the rest of that next week from Pauley's Island
Outdoors where we're gonna be live next week. But right now,
let's go to break. And of course you're listening to
the Trilogy Outdoors radio show. We're listening. We're sitting here

(46:33):
talking fins for feathers, and we'll be right back on
the other side of the break. This is Gator one
oh seven point nine. All right, folks, psych on the commercial.
We are not going to commercial. We're coming live, and
I am now in the ponn Rod Storage Studio, coming
to you live, Jenna. Thank you great job back there
in the Sports Toyota Tundra studio. But I am now

(46:56):
live here and I got a couple of things I
want to talk about for this week. Obviously, we just
talked about our Bowl Peanut cook off and fundraiser this
Thursday at the Biaber Bar Pavilion particularly and we got
raffles involved with that, and then of course the Big
walkome all neck Bull Peanut cook All and while the

(47:20):
interest we've gotten in that, and you know, unfortunately Jenna's
not gonna be there. Super Gena will not be on site.
She's got to work her other job. Unfortunately, she'll be
cooking other meals, not peanuts. But we do have some
incredible celebrities that will be joining us this Thursday to
raise money for the Walcome All eight and Under All

(47:41):
Star Team. Again, I want to make sure people understand
exactly why we're doing this. It is for the Walk
Them All eight Under All Star team that just won
districts for the first time ever and are now going
to state championships next weekend. They leave next Friday, the
day after this cook All they head to Orangebird to

(48:01):
go compete for the state championship and man, we are
super proud of them and want to help those periods
out and coaches. So we are doing a great idea
of wonderful ideas of fundraisers next Thursday, and y'all come
please join us and reach out all the infos on

(48:21):
our Facebook page if you want to find out how
to get raffle tickets too, and you do not have
to be present to win that Big five thousand dollars raple. Okay,
also Luca James strong Man Luca James Golf Event here
it comes July thirteenth. I mean, this thing has snuck
right up on me. Katie was texting me earlier. Katie
and her and her husband Michael obviously great friends of

(48:42):
the show here and we will be there in some way.
Russ and I will be there at the tournament, whether
we play, whether we're there just promoting it, doing something
fun to help raise money for that event. But this
event is, you know, changed a little bit, and if
you'll read about it and go find all the information
which we'll share. They've got a couple spots open and

(49:06):
expect it to be full. So if you want to
play in a great event and have a good time,
I can tell you, Russ, we had a good time
last year, didn't we. Yes, Russ said, yes, you got
to get signed up for that. Okay, that's a strong
Man Luca James Golf Event Sunday, July thirteenth, and it
is back this year at burning Ridge, So Great Golf Course.
Next week we will be at Paully's Island Outdoors, our

(49:29):
good friends down there. We always love when we'll host
us down there, and of course Will does love us
down there, but he has to come in on Saturdays
when we're there. So we're gonna be there. We're gonna
be lying, okay, we'll be on site, and we've got
some great contests and giveaways. With the fourth of July
right around the corner, we're gonna do a great job

(49:49):
of making some people happy and being very patriotic in
doing that. John and Xander. I want to give you
guys a shout out, thank y'all for listening every Saturday.
I think they're on the road. I think they're up
here at the beach this weekend once again fishing. Sanders
had some nice sharks last weekend or weekend before, and
Russ had a great time last night. We've got to

(50:11):
give a shout out to the Sonic team and uh
Jason Brett in particular, who lined up for the Astros
to welcome on Astros to come out on the field. Jenna,
I told you they ran out with the players to
their position for the national anthem, and you know, I
can't think of a more incredible h memory for a kid,

(50:34):
you know, as they start to grow up in sports
to look back and have that picture of them standing
on the field with a professional baseball player at his
position for the national anthem. So we are super thankful
for Sonic doing that. And you're gonna hear a lot
more about Sonic and which is so easy. Jenna, I'm
sure you eat at Sonic every now and then. Don't

(50:55):
you come home? Man, and I'll tell you what. Hey,
you just mentioned it. That's a that's an unbelievable store.
It is. It's great. The staff there is incredible. And
I don't know if you saw the picture of me
running the register. The register is really easy. I can
even do it. But listen, it has been a great
show today and I want to thank everybody. Ship, Richard,

(51:18):
fred Tony, I'm leaving it out, Rayburn. Who else do
we have, Jenna, Austin, Austin Dylon, let's talk about Yeah,
how awesome was that? Yeah? Exactly, Austin. Tell you can
hear that. Go to Trilogy Outdoors podcast. We're on all
