Georgetown, where every day is aboat show every day, and by the
Freedom Boat Club where your boat iscold but it's waiting. Hey, it's

(00:21):
not that bad a weekend. Andby our good friends at Monarch Roof and
we're excited. Our good buddy BertWilliams is gonna come bring us some breakfast
this morning. Course, you knowwe don't need breakfast. Probably where we're
sitting we're probably gonna eat really goodfor lunch here in just a little bit.
But we are at Judy Boone's andmerles Inlet. We are Judy Boone's
family tradition kitchen sitting out front.Jamie has welcomed us this morning. And

(00:44):
hey, we got some giveaways.Yeah, we got a lot of giveaways.
We got a lot of giveaways righthere, and some nice ones too.
We're not giving away all those casina, yeah, but we do have
some giveaways. And I'll tell youwhat. Let's do it. First person
to stop by, let's do it. First person to pull up. What
are they gonna get? They're goingto get a choice of a gift certificate
the Judy Boons or to the wonderfulDrip Woods. I like me some drift

(01:07):
Woods. Yeah, I know whatthat's over there by my house, by
your house. You know, BeanBeaver has Charles Biaver. Let's Charles Beaver
has a mast quite a group ofrestaurants between Pork and Links, Drip Woods
and here Judy Boons, and weare excited to offer you an opportunity to
go enjoy it and test it ifyou haven't been there yet. Again,

(01:30):
we're right here on seventeen Edmurle's inlet. You can't miss us. Look for
the trilogy truck right in front ofus. We're warming up. Yeah,
it's definitely warming up, warming upold earlier, but now it's definitely starting
to warm up a little bit.Well, I know one thing I got
that taking care of today. Ifinally wore my nice jacket that shin and
bolt me yep, I turned iton with the battery pack. I was

(01:53):
waiting. You got electric underwear orsomething. It's battery pack powered bah it's
heated. I can see it's onhigh too. I could see the steams.
See when he pulled that zippr downthe steams, you better hold that
steam in. I'm gonna tell you. I borrowed that jacket, all right.
It's a great concept, it reallyis. I borrowed that jacket for
Kentucky last year for deer hunting. It's a great concept. You get too

(02:15):
hot, No, that battery whenyou're sitting next to a tree, leaning
against a tree, that battery kindof rubs your back. It does well,
which I didn't. I guess Ishould have showed you where the battery
packs at the cord. You canactually move it around to the front pockets.

(02:35):
It's got a slots in there torun the wires through. A friend
would have told me that. Yeah. Now, a friend would have loaned
you a heated coat, and youwould have usually had you not left the
damn battery at the hotel room orwherever y'all were staying. No, that
was somewhere else. I did takethe battery. That the battery with me
the one time, because that waswhen I was duck hunting, Yeah,
duck hunting. I left it.See, I would think electric jackets and

(02:58):
duck hunting wouldn't go together. Electricityand water aren't the best conductors, you
would think, you would think. But it's in that waterproof. It is
waterproof. Yeah, okay, it'swaterproof. I tell you what, though,
if you want to, if youwant to stay nice and warm and
be ready for duck season, godown and visit pal Meta pal Meta State
Armory. To visit Palmeta State Army. But go down and see Will Pouli's
Allan Outdoors. Will's got you setup. I got down there this week,

(03:21):
hung out with him. And ifyou're looking for steel shot, you
know, and years past there hasbeen some issues about mid season finding steel
shot. So if you want some, he's got it. Everything from every
price range, whatever you want,he's got it heavy steel. Trying to
remember all the others. He's gotsome of the oh god, the goods
value, the real good value shellthat I like so much. Oh the

(03:45):
Rios Rios got Rio stopped by Paula'sAllan Outdoors. Go down there and check
it out and get set up perduck season. And you know we duck
season is coming right around the corner. But more importantly, you know we
talked about these cold temperatures trout, and they're here, trout, Are they
here? They are here? I'vehad they are here. I got confirmation

(04:10):
yesterday. I'm not gonna call whohis name is because he's kind of a
secretive guy. He's not one ofour our captains. But I saw a
regular guy who fishes merls inlet heyou mean a trout fisherman, the secretive.
I saw a post last night thatthey left the dock at four o'clock
in the afternoon. They got backat five thirty and caught their limit.
Nice all right, So and it'sa it's on Facebook. The pictures are

(04:31):
there. That's what I needed, any of your nice one jet or yes,
So you know what just happened. The moon, full moon, full
moon pushed this trout in and thecold temperatures is knocking down. The biggest
challenge we've had is pinfish. Imean, who wants to buy, you
know, fifty dollars worth of trimpgo out there and feed it to the
penfish? Catch two trout. Howwhat's the temperature now into inland? It

(04:56):
was in the mid sixties, becauseI remember it was eighty degrees last week,
So I the water temperature. Lastwater temperature was seventy degrees hang on
seventy degrees on I want to saySunday of last weekend, I did somebody
was sent me their trout review withwhy the trout was not here or if

(05:16):
they were here, why the pinfishwere so numerous? And it was seventy
degrees. But it's got to belower. I think it's mid sixties,
maybe upper sixties. Right now it'sup. I mean river warm circle pine
was sixty seven six is the warmcircle pine in the river the other day?
So but I could tell you evenour captain, Captain Nick, who

(05:38):
drives Carolina Girl, took a tooka good friend of ours out and they
scouted some trout and introduced him ourgood buddy Drew introduced him to his first
ever cork fishing. Oh yeah,I can tell you. I was.
I was getting text messages at nineten o'clock last night. Man, this
is awesome, this is cool.I can't wait to do this. So,
I mean, there's another example. You know, somebody's ever done it.

(06:00):
You know, he traditionally thrown artificiallive bait floating that court and final
five years old or fifty he getsyou excited. I do not mind be
in the court dork. I lovethat. I don't mind it a bit.
I don't mind living the court door. And I'll tell you the other
thing when you look back. Andwe're gonna talk a lot about the Marshwalk
Mafia in short slam. Here comesMarshwalk Mafia in short slam. We're gonna

(06:25):
talk a lot about it. That'sour winner, he said, y'at a
winner winter Chicken dinner. Let's givehim his choice. You are the man,
m all right, you get achoice, Drip Woods or Judy Boons.
There you go. Congrats. What'syour name, Ricky Ray? Ricky

(06:50):
Ray is your winners buddy. Thankyou, rick Thank you for listening,
my friend, Thank you so much. All right, So, uh you
know that's awesome. The Trout Tournament'scoming up. Marshwalk Bobby in short Slam,
November eighteen. We're talking a lotabout it, but it's typically this

(07:11):
time of the year. And I'lltell you I went. Tony didn't go
with me, Winston went with me. We went, and you were talking
about the Pinfish. I think weleft with ten dozen. Stopped by to
see Ronald at in lit rocks andloaded up on some of that shrimp from
him. We went out and Dude, I watched the lives goat. It
was crazy. I could see thetrout. The trout were there. They're

(07:32):
there, The trout were there, but you would drop that bait back.
He'd get five feet from the boat, and the pinfish in hundreds would get
up to the bait first and thetrout were under it. I mean a
lot of people probably don't know this. You know, penfish don't feed at
night. A lot of my friendsfish at night, and I was getting

(07:54):
some pretty good reports, you know, of guys throwing you know, artificial
lures at night. These trout hadbeen here since the end of September.
It's just like you said, Imean, it's like, remember that he
can't even get a bait to them. Yeah, makes you wonder, like,
I mean, they are they isolatedin areas where there's no pinfish,
because, I mean, the fightfor food's got to be on. You
know, you remember that day inthe tournament last year when we had to

(08:18):
go under them and not go withthe cork and difference maker make should have
tried that when you were there theother day and them penfishes getting there.
We did it might have helped.I don't know. Well, I say
we did, Russ. That's whatI had to give Russ. I'll tell

(08:39):
you, Russ into barber rod notgoodding. Well, he still has it
figured out the speed in which tobring the rod back as he's letting the
line go, so about every thirdtrip, every third time he lets line
out, the line gets wrapped aroundthe end. So then he's got to
walk up front so we can bendthe rod to you so you can untangle
it and then keep going. Youknow, it's just my favorite thing to

(09:05):
do. I think Tony agrees.I know you love it. I know
you getting into artificial because you're you'reyou're you're in that hy pollutant, uh
white collar crowd. Now, ifyou if you paid attention last week into
the World Championship in Georgetown, theboys, it was a reverie fish.
Every boat was popping cork. Theywas chilling them, popping courts. Dude.

(09:28):
I watched it, dude. Itwas awesome. It was awesome.
I'll tell you what we want toget. We do want to give a
big shout out to Georgetown, GeorgetownCounty and to bass Masters. What an
incredible tournament last weekend. And I'lltell you my friends at the claw House.
Did Dave Mercer right? You know? After the show, I called

(09:48):
down talked to the Claw House.I got Dave down there with the camera
live on bass Masters. Uh.I think he said we we actually have
texted this week some but thirty sixoysters he ended up eating while he was
there. I figured once he gotahold of them, he would enjoy them.
And we said he'd like some raw. Yeah, he liked him rall
the best. Tony was with methe truck when he takes me the other

(10:11):
day. He said, man,I missed that weather down there, and
I said, dude, it wasthirty four degrees this morning. He's like,
what so? But man, tohear every single angler get on that
stage and talk about Georgetown County, talk about Georgetown, talk about our fishery,
talk about the way they were treated. That is just awesome and by

(10:33):
the people, and the other reasonto be proud of where we lived.
Another reason to be proud of wherewe live. And you know, just
see all the people come out andsupport you know, the county and support
these anglers. You know, Imissed Sunday. Unfortunately, well fortunately I
was on my way to Hilton Head, but I missed Sunday, but to
watch it and listen to who allcame up. Jamie Huff came up to

(10:54):
support the guys. Other captains fromCharleston that weren't eligible came up to support
them. It's a big sport andthey're coming back. I promise you they'll
be They'll be coming back. Wellthat's the name of the game. As
you know, Georgetown is one ofthose places. It's so diverse to just
so many different things you can do. I've said it my whole life.

(11:16):
And you know, Charleston is thebig city. You know Merle's Inlet is
now they're very very close to beinga big city because a lot of people
are moving here. Yep. Georgetownis like probably one of the best fisheries
on the Southeast coast. And it'sstill hidden, it's still not talked about.
It's still kind of secretive. Imean there's stuff that goes on down

(11:37):
there that you won't find anywhere else. You know what. My uncle was
here from Arkansas and he used tolive here in fish bass tournaments with me
and my dad for twenty years.Down here. He called a flounder up
Sampit River the other day when hewent bass fishing with my nephew, and
he said, I didn't even knowflounder lived in Sampit River. And I
was like, really, uncle Bill, are you kidding me? All the

(11:58):
years you've eat here, yeah,it's nothing to catch a flounder in Sampit
River on a red shed worm.And he's like, I didn't even know.
And he said, Carter didn't knowwhat. I was like, well,
now you know, so story agood friend of ours. He's traveling
the world now Captain America. Wewent fishing in one of the first times

(12:18):
I ever went fishing in the SandpitRiver and it was like, okay,
you know, I never used toseeing water that's dirty, Like what are
we going to catch? And Ialways tell the story, but like,
the first three fish I caught wasa large mouth bass, a flounder,
and a red fish. And I'mlike, oh my god, you just
combined everything I enjoy. This iscool, you know, But that's what
they did. When they went theywent to the notorious three v chemical had

(12:41):
popping corks using fake shrimp, andDwayne called a mudfish from around a joke
bite my uncle Bill called a flounder, or no h. Carter called a
flounder, and my uncle Bill calleda striper, all in the same hole.
Where can you do that? I'mgonna tell you this is I'm going

(13:03):
back because I can remember how excitedthis one was. Right here. Him
and carry Gmon were going down thereas much as they could. This is
when you were just cutting your teeth. Two to three times a week.
They were going down there fishing inthe Sanfit River, and boy, they
were loving it. You couldn't getus off the water. No, why
would you, good lord, ifyou like catch fish and different species of

(13:28):
fish, if you have scenery, like going back in some of those little
channels and stuff. I mean, you feel like you're in a different country.
Some areas English put up a post. Me and him was fishing down
there a couple of years ago.He said, inga river. I'll give
anybody, no, he said, the creek. He's named the creek.
I'll give anybody a twenty five dollarsgift certificate if you could tell me you

(13:50):
were me and the beast mass offishing. And I'm looking around with yesterday
and was a penny Royal. No, we were in It was in Whites
Creek. Ah. We had abunch of guesses but and somebody finally got
it. But it's like that placeyou look at it and you think it's
just like it's a dead marsh, dead trees. It's got more life in

(14:16):
it, and you'll ever know itis insane. Hey, Scott Todd,
just text me and Scott being safetravels to you. Those boys are world
travelers. Now. By the way, just got done in Florida working.
Now they're loading up. Poor guy. He's heading to Texas now to go
work. And you know, whenyou're the best, I mean, when
you're the best at what you do, you've got demands. And that's father

(14:39):
Son's wedding and services. And I'lltell you what, Scott, we can't
wait to see this trophy. Iknow I can't wait to see the trap
for a couple of weeks. Anduh, you know, I know you're
busy, brother, I know you'rebusy. But we're gonna find a boat
for you to fish. If you'regonna be around that weekend, we'll find
somebody to get you on the boatwith. And if you need any any
help English, go ahead and texthim how to spell mine in your name

(15:01):
to go on that trophy. Thatway you'll be prepared. And y'all been
on enough trophies you need to shareto wealth now he can't keep them all.
Well, you know what, that'sone tournament that I love to fish.
Me and English always do good init. We've been fortunate to win
it, but it's one of them. It's I don't care who wins it,
dude, It's just it's just afun, fun, fun time with

(15:24):
all you guys, and whoever winsit, I'm props to them. They
get bragging rights for the next year, and I'll give them a pad on
the back for the next year.Jason and I had this conversation yesterday.
You know, a lot of alot of there's some people that are scared
of some of the competition. Butwhy would you be scared. There's no
reason to exactly, Can I justtell you? All right? So once

(15:46):
again, I know I've said thisover the years. For me, it
makes it that much more fun.Yeah. For me, I want to
go out there and have a chanceto beat somebody that does it every single
day, because when I do it, I know I can secretively pat myself
on the chest and go, hey, dude, time on the water is

(16:07):
definitely very important. But sometimes wejust get lucky. But I'll tell you
this. I'll go back to whathappened with us last year, and I
won't discuss details because maybe it'll happenedthis year. But me and you went
pre fishing. Yes, but meand my partner Chris Osmond, who fishes
up in Little River, we wentand fished. What was my go to

(16:27):
holes. When I mean go toholes, I mean I had white kings
fish for a week straight. Yep, guess what happened pre fishing. They're
gone. So here we are twelvehours before the tournament, scrambling around trying
to find something, and we wentinto the tournament unsure of where to go.
And this is why I think anybodyhas a shotep. During the tournament,

(16:49):
we started working in one little areathat we had caught fish, but
I had not caught fish there ina while, and lo and behold,
we started catching them. But thatwas a prime exam even the guys who
are out there on the water everyday, those fish can throw you a
curveball the next day and you're sittingthere stumped. You better know it.
If you're in the right spot andyou got the right strategy, you got

(17:11):
just a good a shot as anybodyelse. And not to mention, I
mean there's some really good money andprizes in this thing. So what and
you think about it. Let's sayyou know you can't get all three,
but if you happen to land, you know, a big flounder or something,
I mean, you're gonna get You'regonna get acknowledged on stage as you
caught the biggest flounder. You maynot get all three, but you can
win the big flounder. You canwin the big trout, you know.

(17:33):
I mean there's even other categories. So basically, if you go out there
and fish and you just happen tocatch one really good fish, you're gonna
get to stay on stage and getyour name called out and get a check
in your hand. So so andand this year, for the first time,
we're gonna guarantee first place two thousanddollars two thousand dollars mountain. See.
I guess it is all contingent uponall the raffle tickets selling, but

(17:56):
I think we're gonna we're gonna guaranteetrouble so we're gonna guarantee two thousand dollars
two thousand for first place. That'llbe the biggest payout for first place ever.
Yes, it will be, withouta doubt. And in the process
of doing that, we're gonna raisemoney for Salt Sudient Angle League Tournament Trail,
something that's near and dear to allof our hearts and uh Rayburn and
the crowd who best of luck toall them. They're fishing today. They're

(18:18):
fishing today, but we are goingto So we have fifty dollars rapple tickets
reverse rapple. They go on sellup to do. They go on Cell
day. If you if you're lookingfor them this morning right now, you
can stop by emlet Rocks. Ronaldhas them up there, fifty dollars.
We're gonna do reverse rapple. We'regonna start it on the seventeenth, hopefully
we sell them all out. We'lldo some raffles on the seventeenth of the

(18:40):
Captain's meeting and then we'll finalize itat the awards on the eighteenth. Last
ticket drawn whins twenty five hundred, twenty five hundred dollars and the twentieth fortieth
sixtieth eightieth ticket all win of greatprize as well, so you got additional
ways to win. And again you'regonna help Salt. We're gonna make a

(19:00):
big donation to Salt two thousand tofirst place and twenty five hundred winter And
I'll go ahead and tell you thisright now, And if Ravern's listening,
he'll immediately text me. But Iwas gonna announce this ourself. H M
I f C is going to matchevery dollar that is donated to Salt through
the raffle M I f C isgonna match it. Hey, did you

(19:21):
hear that, Ravern? Even Jennaheard that? One buys Well, if
you want to get into these tickets, Jason's gonna have them. I'm gonna
have them. We'll definitely have themat Inlet Rocks. We'll talk to Perry's
and get them down there. FishingChargers will have them ten thirty to six
every day every day. And ifyou need any message, any of us,

(19:41):
we can, we can meet you, get you tickets, upp whatever
we need to do. They're gonnasell out fast'll sell out last minute.
And that's why we did it atPiggy Dollars. Yeo. I need to
go ahead and reserve one. Yeah, there's Jenna phone. Look at the
phone lighting up here? We goall right, well, hey look I'm
I'm looking in front of me.I got you know, I feel feel

(20:02):
like I'm cheating on him. Butwe got McDonald's and Krispy Creeb in front
office. And that is all thanksto our good friend Bert Williams from Monarch
Rupen, who is now sitting inwith us. Good morning, guys,
Good morning, good morning brother.Hey have you already been to the gym
this morning? Uhm, it's theweekend you're supposed to splur Yeah, exactly.
Hey, we need to talk tohim about the Inshort Slam, because

(20:26):
I mean, it's his His bosslikes to fish. His marketing director likes
to fish too. Well, youknow what his Instagram name is. I
know he's fishing flounder pout of twentythree, twenty three babies. That's that's
twenty three over there. Baby.We got, we got, we got
to get them, get them intotournament. This is gonna be a really
big tournament. Like I said, this is going to be the biggest has
been yet. Yeah, oh yeah. We the amount of sponsors and people

(20:48):
that have shown interest. I meanin the past we've done kind of a
smaller tournament, but this year, with the support of everybody, I mean,
it's gonna be a big turn.Yeah, thank you. Marshall's Marine
once again idol sponsor. Uh again. It is the Marshall's Marine Marshwalk Mafia
in short slam right down there atmerles Lit Fishing Charters and and we normally

(21:08):
do have a pretty good party anda lot of smack talk on the seventeenth
or the captain's meeting that what happenson the seventeenth is you when you get
a bunch of fishermen together and youmaybe throw some of those Marshwalk cold drinks
yep, the merles On sodas,Yeah, the merls of adult drinks.

(21:29):
Yeah yeah. What happens is youhave some sluggish people the next morning and
a good time that night. Well, it's fun and we'll as we get
closer, of course, we gottwo more weeks, we'll talk about it.
But you know, a lot ofgame plan goes into that tournament too.
To be here's a deal. Youcould either go into that with no
game plan and just go fishing.Yeah, but you I think strategically,

(21:52):
you have to have a game planset in your mind, Tony. We
always do we know where within withinan i'll or of where you know that
we want to be at certain spots, we know, we know where we
want to be, and we getit. We we try to fish based
on that. And then how abouthalfway through the day, when things hitting

(22:15):
panned out the way they're supposed to, just thrown out and start Yeah,
exactly. Well it's an interesting tournamenttoo, because I mean, to win
the overall tournament you have to haveall three. So I mean, you
got strategy. You know, we'reallowing up to three people teams. Three
people is the mix. So intheory, you could just have one person
dedicated to flounder, one dedicated totrout, you know, and you know,

(22:36):
one could be swinging for the TWT'sor whatever you want to do.
Or like you said, you gota time frame. You know, maybe
you want to catch a trout atthis tide. You want to catch a
flounder at this tide. You know, you want to chase the red at
this tide, you know. SoI mean, it's it's cool strategy.
But again, going back, youknow, if you get two out of
three. I mean you you stillare gonna win a nice prize, You're
gonna win money, You're gonna getacknowledgment in front of you know, the

(23:00):
best fishermen in all of merles Inlands. So it's a great time. So
let's clarify one thing. If noone catches all three, then it's the
largest aggregate. Yes, if there'snot one single inshore slam weighed in,
then it reverts back to the combined, the heaviest combination of two fish.
Now, I'm pretty sure last yearwe struggled on the plounder. That was

(23:21):
our The flounder was our nemesis thistime of years. Kind you know,
it could be tough to catch akeeper flounder one of the sorties another.
I usually don't have a problem withthe flounder during the slam tournament. That's
usually one of my easy catches. But I left them last year during the
trout tournament, which is what threeweeks after that, I left them to

(23:44):
go to I had to go tothat party. So I left at eleven
o'clock. Him and Kenny went backfishing. How many keeper plounder did y'all
have? All trout fishing was insane. So, I mean, it's anybody's
turn, but it is. Andand for those that are scared to fish
against certain people, I'm sorry. You know what, I'm sorry. And

(24:06):
even we got some negative pushback. We're like, well, it's opening day
of duck season. You can missone day of duck season to go fishing
there, you could go the nextday. I mean, the ducks don't
all fly on one day and thenseason's over. Think about it. This
is a once in a year opportunity. Oh, Captain Sarah is not fishing.
She's going duck. Oh I'm sure, well she could do both.
She can hunt that morning out puttoo much work in that John boat painting

(24:33):
that she's going. She's going toGeorgetown. I understand that she's going to
Georgetown. But that's okay, that'sokay. We'll miss you, Sarah,
but you know it's gonna be agreat time. We're looking forward to it,
raising money for Salt and we gottago to break. We go back,
go to break real quick. Jenna, you're ready, I am all
right. We go to break realquick. We come back. On the
other side, we talked to Burke, talked about that golf tournament, how
it's going, and uh and andchit chat with him for a little bit

(24:56):
and uh. Then we've got somegreat interviews in including everybody's been asking where
Senator to Goldfinch, is he back? Where's he at? Well, I
tell you what, I got agreat interview that they did. It's gonna
it's a preface to a podcast comingup in next week. But uh him
Rick and Rick Austen and his wifeHeidi were out in Colorado chasing elk and

(25:21):
nice. They recorded from the campfireat Camp Wow. It's a really good
pard. It's a really good podcast. We're gonna tease you with a little
bit of it and play that. And then Gene Powell from Santee Cooper Country
that Tony and I had the pleasureof fishing with Geene and I talked a
little bit because this also is thetime to go to Santee if you want
to go catch strippers, I meanbig stripers. Now's the time to go
to San Tea and and and alsocrappy. So uh, we'll play those

(25:45):
interviews, but for now, let'sgo to break. This is the Southern
English radio show on the gate ofone O seven point nine Public city in
Georgetown every day is a boat shooevery day, and by the Freedom Boat
Club where your boat is waiting, and by Monarch Rupin, who is sitting
right aross the table promise. Isay, look, we should have brought
that back in for us. Iknow, I know. All right,

(26:06):
let's hey, Burt, come on, let's talk about this golf tournament.
Yes, sir, yes, sir, has grown exponentially. And I know
you're ready December or fourth. Yeah, absolutely, man, I'm like super
excited. You you got spots open, it's coming together. My teams are
full. I've got a few pillsnot and paid, but basically the teams
are full. I've got corporate sponsorshipsleft are the main spots. And you

(26:29):
do get a team with those corporatespots, so they can reach out to
me at eight four three five Ofour seven eight one eight and I'll be
happy to them. Where is thistournament. It's at the best golf course
on the strand, this Watchsaw Plantation, which is basically a private course.
So we're uh, it's a veryexclusive and it's it's gonna be a great
time. Man. We're just superexcited. We got great prizes. We've

(26:52):
been have a low country bull atthe end, Josh McKay's playing. We
just got a lot going on.You uh, you know what you do
is really good. You guys raisingmoney to help veterans. Absolutely, that's
what it is for. I mean, that's all it's doing, is it's
shelter for veterans. And with whatwe raised, which we're hoping it will
be about thirty thousand dollars, we'llbe able to do about twelve roofs replacements

(27:15):
for veterans. That is great. That's nice, dude. How do you
get nominations for that? We do. We work with some veteran associations and
we get a lot of referrals onwho really really needs it type things,
and then we go and kind ofinterview them and look at and see what
we can do for him. Thatis great, man, I'll tell you
what, thank you for that?Absolutely better. Yeah, we're happy to
give back. Man. Martin's reallybig on giving back to the community and

(27:37):
especially the veterans. Well, hehired the right person to be to head
that up. Is that. Imean, let's do what is your job?
Is that? That is my job? I am business development basically pray
an ambassador. All I do isgo out and call on like builders and
realtors and property associations and things ofthat, anybody that we can get a
root from, you know, that'smy job. And just going to every
event I can possibly go to andjust spending the monarch word. And you

(28:00):
know your niece got married last Saturday. Yes, And during the day Saturday,
you had to go to a fundraiseryes, Yes, trunk or treat
Man at the Service House. Thatwas a fantastic event. And I don't
know if you've been out there tosee it yet. It's the house on
Peach Tree right by the drawbridge, and we did a brand new roof on
it. But if you look atit, it looks like it was just

(28:21):
meant like it had been there becauseit blends in perfectly. Jake did a
great job picking the color on theshingle and they were so excited and so
appreciative. That's great. So thatwas awesome to be able to do that.
Yeah, I had a busy Saturdaylast week, busy week period.
Yeah, you're always always hustling, baby, always hustling. You got to
well, everybody's always needing some roofrepairs, yes, And We talked about

(28:47):
this when you were in the studiowith us, but most people don't even
realize it. Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing, you know. I
mean, if you've got a smallleague, that small league can turn into
a major, major problem. Sodon't let it go. And people do
that and we see that all thetime. But you know, we're ha
you come out. All you cando is call and we'll do a free
inspection. We call it RUF tuneup. We go up there, we
take video, we take pictures. It's time stamped. You've got that from

(29:07):
when we do get a storm foryour insurance agents. But if we see
a little minor damage up there,we're gonna go ahad and fix it for
you for free. So I mean, that's that's pretty strong. Well that's
slam. Do you think you gota chance from maybe getting a team and
getting in Yeah? Man, nowwhat y'all tell me? I'm gonna talk
to the trip and see if hewants to fish in it with me.
You know, I can see aboat of three guys out there in the
blue shirts with that monarch crown Icall it monarch roofrizing the inlet. I

(29:34):
see it now, Yes, Ithink it's a great idea. Yep.
I think you need to come fishit with us and at least come to
the captains meet and then hang outwith us, because you, oh,
absolutely you know how to have fun, to have a good time. Oyster
ROAs. You're going to that today. I'm gonna stop by there. I
told him, you know, Ivolunteer a little bit, so I'm gonna
try to help with something to cleanup at the end. Are you okay

(29:55):
good? That was the big thing, and I was getting ready to mention
that, so Stacy reached out tome two days ago. She's got plenty
people set up. Unfortunately, shedidn't have a lot of people sign up
for cleanup, so it's real simple. All she needs to do is to
get everything from across the street atWI can tune a crazy sister back over
to the twenty twenty office there andif you can find her around three o'clock.

(30:19):
If you're at the Oyster ROAs,find her around three and she'll get
everybody point in the right direction.Like she said, an hour tops that
should be to finish up and geteverything cleaned up. I'm gonna try to
get over there for a little bit, but I have an event at four
o'clock that I'm helping with, soI've got to be over to celebrate mister
j T. Tompkins qualifying for theElite Series something that you know, I

(30:44):
mean, it's pretty dog on special. That's really special for a twenty one
year old from here from Myrtle Beachto now be on the biggest stage in
bass fish. Hey, there's onlyeighty people in the world to get to
fish. So when you say eightyout of how many millions of people is
into the United States, that's prettyall. That's pretty strong. Yeah,

(31:08):
I'm super excited to get with him. I want I can't wait to talk
to him. But I was gonnatry and get him on the show today,
but I know he's trying to relaxa little bit, but uh,
I want to talk to him abouthow his sponsorship game is going, because
you know, that's the big thing. Yeah, the big thing is they
all fish for money. They alltry to make a lot of money on
the water, but most of themmake most of the money off the water

(31:33):
before they get on the water. And I think JT, without a doubt,
is going to be a great pacefor a lot of companies and uh,
there's no doubt. If you justgo back and listen to Trilogy Outdoors
podcast with him, you can.You can listen to a twenty one year
old that sounds more like a fortytwo year old YEP, one hundred percent
that's been out there for years fishing, and I mean he understands every aspect

(31:53):
of it, not just the competitionside of it, but all the off
the water stuff. So he's definitelygonna make us proud. And having the
history of being in the bass Master'sClassic, you know, that was really
cool last year. I mean lastweekend when Dave Mercer sat with us and
talked to us about JT and said, he put his arm around Jasob and
said, you really like this, don't you said, mister Dave, I've

(32:15):
got to get back here. Igot to get back here, And he
said, I got to figure othow to get on that stage, and
yeah, I gotta figure out howto get on that stage. Well he
got on the stage. He did. He got on the stage, and
I can't wait for the magazine tocome out next week. Whole Greg Greg
Holzauser hit a home run with anincredible one on one with JT and Craig's

(32:37):
not a big bass fisherman, buthe understands the game into sports and he
asked some great questions. So that'llbe out next week in Trilogy Outdoors magazine
when it comes out, And I'lltell you what, Bert, We're gonna
let you warm up, and we'regonna warm up a little bit. But
while we're doing that, I'll tellyou what again. I told you the
Senator is back. He is inphil therapy mode right now, recovering,

(33:01):
but he was able to sneak outthe Colorado to a tip to guide his
friends Rick and Heidi Austin on anel khunt and they had a really cool
campfire talk. And we're gonna teaseyou with a little bit of it here,
miss Jenner, you got that tunedup over there, all right,

(33:22):
Well, we're gonna tease you witha little bit of it. And next
later in the week, you'll beable to listen to the complete podcast at
Trilogy Outdoors. But for now,we'll just give you a little bit of
teas and then go to break andwe'll come back on the other side of
the break and we'll talk some morefishing, because there's a lot to talk
about We've got a bunch of guysright now fishing in North Carolina. We'll

(33:43):
see if we can get a livereport from them off of Hatteras fishing in
the meat fish Slam. But Jenna, if you're ready, go ahead and
crank that up. Welcome back tothe Southern Angles Radio Show, coming to
you live via the Toyota Tunge Studio, presented by sparkshow To where the dealers
always in, and by Key WestBoats and Morrison in Ablick City and Georgetown
every day it's a boat show everyday, and by the Freedom Boat Club

(34:05):
where your boat is wity hey,And I tell you what by Monarch Rupin
our good friends over there. AndI also want to talk about one other
thing. My good friend Sean Builton, friend of the Southern English Radio Show
here, uh, several months ago, or back about a month and a
half ago, maybe, was thevictim of a theft of all of their

(34:27):
music equipment everything. Oh no,it was in a storage area. It
was in a storage area. Andunfortunately they are bit by bit piecing things
together. And they are piecing thingstogether. But I want to talk real
quick. If you want security, you know, we're talking boats here we're

(34:51):
talking trailers, we're talking everything.Pone Road Storage, our good friends from
Elvis Services. Pone Road Storage locatedright here and mules in it conveniently,
I mean, five minutes from thepublic landing, five minutes from Wakawachie.
Uh. If you want some incrediblestorage options secure and I'm talking the most
high tech security system that you'll findanywhere, go over and visit our friends

(35:15):
over there. Great options. You'vegot indoor storage, outdoor storage, all
kinds of stuff, climate control, whatever you want. Stop buying and see
those guys. But I feel bad. I was with Shawn last night and
he's actually gonna be playing some music'safternoon at our event, and you know,
it's it's terrible, dude. Theylost over thirty thousand dollars worth of

(35:37):
sound equipments. Horrible, and Imean some of that stuff's probably irreplaceable.
Yes, a lot of the youknow a lot of that band equipment stuff
that you know, they come outwith newer models and stuff, so some
of that stuff they probably had foryears and now they got to you know,
recoup all that. That's absolutely hard. YEP. So we we're gonna
do something here over the next month. Or so to help Sean raise some

(35:57):
money to get some of that equipmentback. Shawn's a great dude if you've
never met him, and one hellof a singer. Any good fisherman,
yeah, and a good fisherman, yes, sir, caught some big old
flounder with us. Go ahead anddon grab that headset till Tommy gets back
out here. We do have sheef. Tommy is here now on the premise
we'll get him out here with us. In the meantime, we've got mister
Kayak Mudfish aka mister Mudfish Don NeeSmith sitting in with us, and uh

(36:23):
Don, let's talk about Dagwoo Lake. Do Woo Lake is fun man.
You know it's funny because I'd neverheard of it before you started going.
I'd never heard of it until fivemonths ago and lived here my whole lo
love going down there, and nowI do. I absolutely love the Elvid
spot. It is cool, verycool. Now. You did say last

(36:43):
week you got the witness some alligators. Yeah, CoFe, Yeah, I
went down the one. I wentdown Saturday morning and there's four hogs that
had been killed, wild hogs, and somebody had looked like I guess took
a machete, cut the heads offand then just pushed them out in the
lake and the alligators are having themsome breakfast. I had to wait about

(37:04):
an hour, hour and twenty minutesbefore I even thought about getting in the
water. I would have I wouldhave done the same thing, but you
know, i'd have just left. That's a round right there. Four gators.
I was. I was trying tobetter a number, and that's an
hour and twenty five minute ride oneway. I'm not turning around just to
come home empty handed. I was. I was gonna make a day of
this place. Sounds awesome. Itis gorgeous, especially in the mornings when

(37:28):
it's the smoke on the water.Man, I'm telling you that any photographer
that would like to come down there, I'll put you in the act.
Take all the pictures you want.Spoon Bills for some reason love that place.
I mean, you'll see forty orfifty in one tree. Is this
same? Yeah, the big curveroseated. I mean that. I don't
no, no, that I seewhat he's talking about. Yeah. I

(37:49):
have never seen that many of thisbird in one spot ever. Other than
this, this little wake just hassome weird It's just weird. Where's you
fed from santy seen Tee River?Yep. So as far as fresh water
fish, you obviously you mud thrush, the mudfish, chain pickerel, gar,

(38:10):
long nose, gar, brim, and I haven't caught them, but
the boys say in the springtime, everyone made that place is load to a
warm mouth, walmouth, whatever youwant to call them, any bass and
bass and they're they're all. Everything'sin there. It's amazing that anything's in
there. For as many mudfish arein there eating everything, but everything is
in there. It's insane. So, I mean, I would have to

(38:32):
say the crop crappie, it seemslike they would be in there. I
mean they are, they are.I just haven't caught one out of there
yet. Put you put anything thatI use for crappie. If the minute
it goes under it's a mud it'sa ninety percent of time it's a mudfish.
Tattoo it. And if you're ona little tiny crappy rod four foot
crappy rod with a six pound mudfish, that's that's a fun time. You

(38:53):
have you been sure to check allthese mudfish and make sure that they're not
a snakehead. Yeah, I haven't. None of they're all MUDs. Yeah,
I don't know the difference I saw. It's very minor, isn't it.
I mean it's the bottom fin init. Fins on them is different.
One of them is full fin,one of them separated, one of
them has a split in it.Yeah, because I hear, I hear.

(39:15):
You know, we've had some peoplethat have gone to dn or with
some snakeheads that they've caught, Yeah, in the PD and off the PD.
So I could only imagine and andand they are mudfish are native here?
Right? Yeah? Yeah, they'rethey're not. I mean the dinosaur
that's been here longer than any ofthem, I would think probably most fish,
right Toney. I have no ideawhere they originated from or how long

(39:37):
they've been here. They are.All I know is they can. They
can cost you a nine dollars crankbait and a heartbeat in a second.
Yep, tear up a rod, tear up a net, tear up everything
in the boat if you throw themin there. Yep. They're in a
kayak in a confined space. Letme tell you, if you're not prepared
for what that thing's going to do, it's a shock well, I tell

(39:58):
you you know, this is atime of year. We talked about it.
You you love traveling, you lovetravel fishing. You went down to
Cooper River a couple of weeks ago. I'm going back down to Paradise next
weekend. Another Heroes on the Waterjust having This is not a tournament,
this is just an open thing. They're having a barbecue and a fish come
down and hang out kind of deal. So another fish head, Greg McKelvey,

(40:19):
just went to Paradise this week andlimited out on trout. I wouldn't
doubt that trout, he texted meyesterday. But this is a great time
of the year to travel. Wehave been known to go to San Tea
with our group, take a coupleof boats and go to Santia this time
of the year. And I'll tellyou san Tea is a really easy trip.

(40:40):
Yes it is. And I'll tellyou I was had the pleasure of
spending a little time on the phonethis week with Miss Jane Powell of Santee
Cooper Country, and we talked aboutsan Tea and exactly, you know how
easy it is to get to everything, and I want to play a little
bit of that. You can alsogo listen to that podcast full length on

(41:00):
any platform, Trilogy Outdoors podcast anduh, miss Jane really promotes and does
a good job. And I'll tellyou the other thing about saying tea is
now with the new public fishery, the public reefs, what do you want
to call it? I mean,it's a fish habitat that the state is
putting out. If you're not surewhere you want to fish and don like

(41:22):
the three that I fished where thecrappy aard to be crappy, you can
get to it easily in your kayak, all right, bet put in a
bono, Yeah, yep, andyou just go right towards the dam and
when you get to that cove tothe left where the damn starts, all
three are right there, okay orshort stay in time. Not like I
need to help you, but I'mjust telling where you could do it.

(41:43):
When I fished down there before itwas now this has been years ago,
was Harry's fish camp. Yeah,I think on a diversion canal. Yeah.
A friend of mine has a place, I'd say a quarter mile from
there, and we and we'd staythere and fish either side of that diversion
canal. We always did good. And then when I was a real young
guy, I fished with Jason's olderbrother Dicky Smith a couple of time down
there for Stripper, yep, Andwe always did good for Stripper down here,

(42:06):
and I don't remember when we went, but we always did good for
Stripper. Well, Stripper's right nowtoo. And uh, Jane talks about
that a little bit, Jenna,if we have that set where we could
play it, all right, let'splay that real quick. We'll come back
on the other side of the breakbehind that, and we're gonna get Shep
Tommy out here with us, andwe're gonna we're gonna, we're gonna go
into we're gonna dive into the kitchenhere at Judy Boons and see if we

(42:30):
can answer some questions because a lotof people have some preconceived ideas exactly on
some of these items that are onthe buffet here, and Tommy's gonna enlighten
everybody on those and exactly why thefood here is so good. So let's
listen to miss Jane, uh,and we'll come back on the other side
of the break after that. Allright, folks, welcome back to Trilogy

(42:52):
Outdoors Podcast and coming up In thissegment, I'm joined by Miss Jane pie
All from Santique, Cooper Country, who I had the pleasure recently of going
fishing with. And actually we wentcatching, didn't we, Miss Jane?
Yes we did. We had agreat time. It was so much fun.

(43:14):
I wish that the wind hadn't beenblowing quite so hard that day,
because instead of catching a smaller striper, I'm sure we would have caught,
we would have caught a trophy's sides. We gotta go back, We got
to go back. I'm in,I'm in. You just tell me when,
and I tell you Captain Joseph Dennisuh did a great job that day.
And y'all did you know I youknow, have you ever seen that

(43:37):
bumper box? That was that?Your first time ever seeing the bumper box
like he had? Yeah, I'venever heard of such. It was like
a vetrono, you know that theyuse a piano lessons. Yeah, you
know, I mean what it whata great idea. It seemed to work
because if you said here you cansit and watch the stripers, they were
under there. So you know,we called them, that's right, we

(43:58):
did. And you and I weretalking before we started recording about how it
would how nice it would be tobe there now because the next couple of
months are you know, Sante Cooperis known. You know a lot of
people don't understand the facts and theabout the stripers overall in this country,
freshwater stripers, and how they prettymuch all have a genetic relationship to Santee

(44:25):
Cooper. That's right. You're awareof that. You're aware of that.
I knew that. Yeah, youknow, the Santa Cooper Lakes are known.
I mean we're known from all overthe country as the home of the
landlocked strip bass. Yes, andas you were just referring to, you
know, our Santa Cooper Lakes.I mean, first of all, I
live on the Lake Marion. Andsecondly, you know I love my job

(44:49):
because I mean, my gosh, just to promote life and recreation and just
fun, you know, for theSanta Cooper Lakes is not even a job,
so as I almost feel guilty fortaking U salary. But anyway,
but loud, well, we don'tknow. We might just want to whisper
that. But anyway, you know, when when when our lakes were created,
you know, they were created aspart of FDR's new deal, and

(45:14):
you know they started created. Imean, we have a lot of the
swamps, and you know we havethe river that ran through this area that
was that goes all the way outto the Charleston Harbor, so striped bass
of course, and I mean allof you guys out there realize this,
but you know said they're game dish, but they have to they have to
spawn in fresh water. So youknow, they would come in from the

(45:37):
Atlantic Ocean and come way up theriver, you know, to go ahead
and spawn. So when they werebuilding the lakes, when FDR and and
Santa Cooper Public Service Authority uh wasout creating what's now known as the Lake
Marion and Lake Boultrey, then youknow they were having the clear cut all

(45:57):
the timber away. Uh. Theyhuge encampments of you know men out there,
you know, were moving trees, especially on the lower Lake Maultree.
And World War two was breaking out. So they started in nineteen thirty nine
creating the lakes. But world Wartwo was breaking out, I broke out,
and so they had to go aheadand they had to dam up the
lakes because they needed to have thepower from the generator down in Mott's Corner

(46:23):
and so in doing so, theyknew that there was going to be stripers
that were going to be locked inand did not have a way to escape,
to get back out in the ocean. So, you know, as
genetics would have it, young, you don't mess with Mother Nature. But
dog gone if they didn't find away to create and genetically form to live

(46:46):
in fresh water. So back towhat you were saying, just to circle
back real quick, the stripers andour lakes learned to live fresh water.
And so we have the hatcheries thatsee. Cooper is great in the Apartment
of Natural Resources. They have hatcheriesaround the state and they have the fingerlings.

(47:07):
So just about every every lake inour country has their strifers that come
back to their beginnings right here inour in our lakes in South Carolina.
The story, huh, it isan awesome story. And I tell you
you know, folks, just soyou know, she's not a biologist,
Okay. She is there to promoteanother slice of God's heaven, the Santee

(47:30):
Cooper Country. But the lady understandsfish, trust me, and she understands
the incredible place that she lives andpromotes. Just like she said, but
it is it is so cool whenyou think about it. You know,
you think about Tennessee, all ourfriends in Tennessee, that fish that go
up there, and they brag aboutDouglas Lake and all the big fish.

(47:51):
Well guess what folks y'all can thinkus for that? You know, that's
right, You got right. I'lltell you something else. It's and even
though back when when we were outstriper fishion, I've already got a message
this morning. This morning, Ifound a message from Captain Joe Dennis with
he's already sent us up. He'sbeen out this morning with a crew and
they've already caught their limit of stripers. I mean they're just laid out on

(48:15):
the docks. So yeah, wedefinitely have to go back and stripe and
go striper fission. I want tocatch a big one. I am in
and you just let me know whenI will be there. Trust me,
we can go over and see ourgood friends over at the landing and campground
again and leave from there. BecauseI had a blast, And I told

(48:36):
you I had so much fun theweekend that we were there with you that
I turned around and booked a vacationthe following weekend with my family and to
think it takes me an hour infifteen minutes by the way to get it
takes me an hour and fifteen I'msorry, I had a phone call coming
through. It takes me an hourand fifteen minutes from my house to get

(49:00):
to some part of the lake, not not you know, the closest part,
but and our in forty minutes forme to get to the DIU Virgin
Canal. I mean that is anhour and forty minutes just to get over
to Burtle Beach. You know, you know where I live. You know,
it's crazy. We've got South Carolinahas become so popular and there are

(49:22):
so many people that are now movinginto South Carolina that you'd be surprised with
again back in the Conway, MyrtleBeach, Polly's Island, in that area,
that they really don't realize that we'rejust an our, you know,
hour fifteen minutes here and you've gotwhen I say large lakes, Lake Marion

(49:47):
is the largest lake in the stateof South Carolina. So we're located just
inland from the coast. The largestlake in South Carolina, Lake Moultrie,
is the third largest lake. Soif you combine the two lakes, you
know, Marrying and Moultrie. Thenyou've got the largest lake system in the
state. So it covers over onehundred and seventy thousand acres of water,

(50:12):
you know, so you can goout there and you can find your own
little piece of heaven. I donot even see a boat the rest of
the day. It's just such amassive it's such a massive lake. And
I'll tell you something else we havewith the fresh water from down on the
southern part of the state. Iknow that, like in the Beauford area,

(50:34):
we're the closest fresh water lake tothat part of the state. So
you know, a lot of thesepeople that are moving in, they sometimes
may want to just come in andget away from the coast, get away
from the salt air, and comein enjoy the fresh water. We've got
fabulous camping. I mean there's justthere's campgrounds, waterfront campgrounds alone. We've

(50:57):
got over twenty three twenty four gota waterfront. Just like you were saying
when we went out of Hills LandingHills Landing down in Cross which is right
on the Diversion Canal. The DiversionCanal is the Diversion Canal is a piece
of water that's about seven miles longthat connects Marion and Faultry. So and

(51:19):
it's while we're talking about that, let me say this great camping. But
yeah, Hill's Landing. They havenew owners down there, they've got and
this is perfect time, by theway, to come camping. By the
way, it's beautiful here right now. The fall foliage is gorgeous. The
sun is dancing, I mean, the light coming off the water. It's
just it makes me not want tobe at work. I want to go

(51:40):
camping myself. But you know anotherthing that's fun that it's locals. And
I think you might have done thiswhen you came with your family that you
know, just on the other sideof you've got Lake Marion, then you've
got the Diversion Canal, then you'vegot Lake Maultrie at the end of Lake
Maultree. We also had a localfavorite, which is the Panopolis Lock.

(52:04):
That's a great a great time. And I think you said maybe you had
experienced that for the first time.Oh, we did, and I'll tell
you it was incredible. I'm allright. So when we went in,
obviously it was a little bit slower. There was only one other boat going
in with us. But the lockmasteror whoever had time to come over and

(52:27):
chat with us, and he wasjust awesome and he knew a lot of
history, and he knew about theyou know, having to do with FDR
and everything else, and he letus kind of stand up and let us
look, you know, get outand showed us how we could look down
and see that seventy five foot fromup top is incredible and to the point
where my nine year old, mysix year old and me were all kind

(52:51):
of like, Okay, this isscary, but it's not you know,
oh I know when you think aboutespecially that you came in from the lower
parts. So it's listen, it'sit's a it's a local favorite. I
mean people from Charleston come in fromthe from the coast. They come up,
you know, through the tail Racecanal and they come up to go

(53:15):
through the locks. People here,I've done it, and it's a great
weekend where you can get two orthree your you know, your your buddies
and you've got a convoy of boats. You can take off and you go
through the bottom of Lake Maultrie andit's almost like an infinity swimming pool.
I mean, you just stop. The lake just ends. And so again,

(53:35):
yeah, it just ends. Soyou you know, you let them
know you're coming. It's spread charge. You don't have to pay anything to
go through the locks. But allof a sudden, it's like these massive
wooden doors. It's like the partingof the waters. And then, like
you're saying, you pull your boatin, you're tethered at each other.
And then when the door is shutand they start lifting you down and you

(53:57):
can see the water trickling through thedoors from the top. You know,
I mean, it's just you haveto experience it really is so cool.
Well, every day it's a boattoo, every day and by the Freedom
Boat Club where your boat is.And and and uh, listen that that
PSA we've been playing for them. That sounds like an awesome event next Saturday.

(54:17):
Oh, that sounds amazing, awesomeevent. Oh look at there,
here comes a delivery of food. And speaking of food, here at Judy
boons. We've got the warning onlyhe said, I'm a I'm a cook,
I'm not a chef. Tommy Wilsonis joining us now, and Tommy,
thank you so much for coming inearly to sit with us. Thank

(54:39):
y'all you know, last week ortwo weeks ago, when I was here,
you and I you took me ona little trip because I made a
comment. I said something about kenlima beans and and something else, and
uh, you enlightened me real quickon that. You know, you know,

(55:00):
it's hard to brag about how goodyour lima beans are, but your
lima beans are good. And Ijust I think I was I was asking
you about salt, wasn't it,Because my thing is, obviously we know
that a lot of your crowd issome of the older folks who don't eat
a lot of salt. But yetI find myself grabbing, you know,
liva beans and most of the timeall your items have just enough salt for

(55:22):
me. I don't have to dunpmore salt on it. And I said,
so, whatever can you're using? And you say, you brought me
back to the back. Everything's therecipe here it is. It's from scratch.
Where'd you get that from? Itstarted up the road a little wayst
that's right. Well, you cantalk, that's okay, But hey,

(55:45):
recipes are really good in the senseof passing them down. So he's got
a family recipe for what do y'allmake Mexican Hot to Molly Hot to Molly's.
They got a family recipe and theydon't it. Don't leave that house.
I don't know it. Yeah, they won't even tell Tony it,
won't share it with me, youknow. But that was miss Ellie may

(56:06):
Small's. That's where they're riching atit. That's what I thought. I
figured that, miss Ellie may itwas. And and your linea beans are
fresh frozen, they are along witheverything else. Your black eyed peas.
You do the same thing. That'swhat I showed you out there that day.
I wanted I would didn'tlight you andshow you exactly what we did.
What we did well. Last nightI was with a group of people.

(56:29):
We were talking and I told himthat we were coming here to do the
show, and I was talking aboutyour my conversation and I just was surveying.
I told Jason, everybody said, figured, you've had one of those
big racks with all the cans layinsideways. You just pulled from a rack,
open up a can, dump itin, heat it up, and
go yeah, Nope, that's nothow that's not how it works. And

(56:51):
the other thing that you amaze mesay if you do, I want I
want you to tell me where toget that can address and you got you
make around here. I want mea big can of that. How about
the flounder? Seeing the flounder backthere, Yeah, that's my favorite.
Every time I eat here, I'vealways get picking up the flounder and eating
though well, perfectly fried and everything. I'm gonna tell you, the plounder
look good. And I don't mindshowing you exactly where we start with it.

(57:15):
That's the way to do it.That is everybody, honest. Yep.
And uh well, I mean you'veshowing me all kinds of stuff back
there, But you know, alot more goes into food prep here than
what people think. Yes, it'sit. It's all day jobs. What
time do y'all start prepping food here? Some of them they start parts of
it the night before. Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. Somebody

(57:37):
said, like with turkey and stufflike that, when you do your turkey
and dressing, you start the eveningbefore, don't you. They'll be putting
the other and this afternoon for inthe morning. Wow, how about you
barbecue? Let's talk about that?Is it? It's Proceser's barbecue. That
is great, original process, theoriginal, Yes, and it's good.
People love it. People love it. We people love this place. I

(58:00):
mean I have never have you beendown here on a Sunday? Have you
have you you know you're normally efficient. Have you driven by here on a
Sunday and cars you can't find aparking spot there parked down the road.
I mean, that's just a testamentto what you do. I mean obviously,
I mean people will come far andwide just to eat recipes, which
is awesome. Heed, We're blessedon this. We never dreamed to take

(58:22):
off like this when we started this. I know, I bet Bean was
nervous. Huh, he's calm allthe time. Whatever. Yeah, you
know, we were talking about thegroup of restaurants that he has and drip
Woods again. I eat there alot. I go to Drip Woods.

(58:42):
I love it. I mean, you know, they promote it as you
know, Marsh. You know, waterfront seafood served at a fair price.
You just don't have the waterfront infront of you. And and and that's
the truth. You know, mykids go there. You know what they
love fish dip, the little cupof fish dip with the Captain's wafers with

(59:07):
the captain's wafers make me hungry, they do. Do you know anything about
that fish dip? Where's it comefrom? Who makes it? No?
Make it in house? But Idon't know. It's good. I don't
care. It is good. Andyou know, I've heard I know a
lot of locals here that swear theyhave the best fish dip, and they

(59:28):
love to do it with mackerel, king mackerel, which is the predominant fish
dip with yep and and whatever itis. I don't know. You can't
get enough on my table. Yeah, I don't care. If there's mullet,
mudfish, goarfish, whatever kind offish it is, it's good.
I love it. And And anotheritem that I'm really going to brag about,
and I think you're doing it hereon the buffet line too, is

(59:50):
the salmon. We do it everyFriday night. Wow, that that's salmon.
So I got salmon the last timeI was out at Driftwood, I
got salmon. And I got itwith the bourbon glaze, the sweet glaze.
Oh my god, was ridiculous. It was. It was good.
I you know, everybody that's listeningright now, if you're hungry, Judy
Woons will be opening it up hereshortly. I'm about to say they gonna

(01:00:10):
have a line stretch from here.Hey, I on the way to surf
side, the way we were talking, I just walked inside for a minute.
Smell it? You already smell it? No, No, I didn't
have to smell it. I walkedright over there to the buffet. I
had to go to the little boy'sroom for a minute, and the buffet
was already steaming in there, andhis food already. Did you slap your
hand when you went by and said, yep, I understand. I had
to make myself walk way wide ofit. That's why i'm outside here.

(01:00:35):
If they let my big behind inthere, it's not gonna be a good
thing. Hey. And it's abouttwenty degrees warmer in there too. Oh
yeah, I know who had thisgreat idea of sitting out front. I
want to know what the sunshine youwas bragging on was gonna be up by
eight o'clock or seven degrees? Tody, you gotta go. You gotta agree
with me, though. It waswhen we got here at seven thirty,

(01:00:57):
it was almost warmer than it isnow. It was it was you text
me in and said, uh,it's fifty two outside right now. Because
I was like, are we insideor outside? And he said, it's
only fifty two degrees for God's sakes, And and I'm over here shivering and
got long underwear on. I gotlong underwear on too. Another thing my
kids love here is your brownies? Are they are? They made in the

(01:01:22):
house? They we make them inhouse. Do you really bet they're We
get powder and stuff and yeah, yeah, but they do. They're unbelievable,
they are. The brownies are good. The I can't decide if I
like the pineapple or the apple orthe peach cobbler better both of them.
Is they're neck to neck in therace. Now, they're good. They're

(01:01:45):
good. You ever had those?Jesus, I've remember looking at my child
just talking all out his feet itemsat homemade coolip on him. Oh yep,
yep, And uh, you knownow I'm hungry. Now we're gonna
have to go in there, knee. It's like watching those Food Network shows.
When you watch them, you justimmediately want to go eat everything or

(01:02:05):
go to the groc store and buythe whole grocer store. You know,
well, I'll tell you, Iknow you I know you're a busy man,
and uh, you guys just havecrushed it over here. Consistency,
man, consistency and the recipe game. And that's why there's so much consistency,
and it's much appreciated because I knowwhat I'm getting when I come here.

(01:02:27):
I know exactly what the chicken ballis gonna taste like. I know
what the dressing's gonna taste like.But that that's huge, and that's that's
overlooked at a lot of places.I'm to come back through the same thing
when they're coming. If it's notconsistent, you're gonna lose business. I
mean, you're driving from Flora.I know people drive from Florence just to
eat here. And that's the onething they say is I can't wait to
taste it. Like you said,I means. And I've got friends that

(01:02:50):
I have introduced from Conway that havenever come down there. They're in the
inlet all the time and they said, you know, we've never stopped by
the They didn't even know you're abuffet. And he owns a big landscaping
business, big and he's down herea lot, and now he is a
loyal Judy Boons fan and those exactly. And you come here at lunch time,

(01:03:15):
you know, Yeah, if youget here at twelve fifteen, you're
gonna be in for a little bitof a weight. But it's a buffet,
folks. It goes fast, itgoes quick, It goes quick.
Sundays are no. You might writea story that's a beast. Yeah,
But you know, we all gotour religion, worth it, worth it,
worth it. We all minute. We all get our religion in in

(01:03:37):
the morning, and we got togo get us a good old meal in.
We got all the Judy Booze girlsover here with jazz, all the
girls, you know. And thatwas the other thing I was going to
say. First, the food isgreat. Secondly, every single one of
y'all, every every staff member here, it is. I mean, when
you come in here, it is. I mean, you know, when

(01:04:00):
you think comfort food, when youthink southern, you're good. You're you're
thinking you're gonna get hospitality, You'regonna get great treatment. And that's how
it is here. And I've neverseen a waitress, a bus boy,
a server, anybody. I've neverseen anybody in here walking around with a
mad look on their face. Nope, never, I can honestly say that

(01:04:21):
I've never seen nobody that it lookedlike they was having a bad day.
Now, they may do, andthey may just hide it well, but
I've never seen it. They're alwayslaughing, smiling, cutting up. Yep,
that's it. You always got asmiling face when you walk in the
door. At the counter, that'sthey're making faces. Yeah, they're making

(01:04:41):
faces at Tommy, making faces atTommy. Well, I tell you what
it is. It is unbelievable andit feels so great inside. You know.
I like the way that Bean didn'ty'all didn't change things up in there.
You know, it's it's you know, I know he tried it as
you know, a regular restaurant priorto to go into the buffet, and

(01:05:02):
Tony and I ate here several times. The food was great, as you're
gonna expect out of Bean, ButI think the buffet you nailed the bull's
eye when y'all switched over. Gooddeal. I mean, that's what our
aim was to pull businesses going intothe holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Obviously

(01:05:23):
y'all gonna be busy. I thinkpeople can pre order. I was just
yeah, so you know, ifwe got family we're gonna have over the
house, and we want to fullthem into thinking that we cooked. We
can pre order everything, can't,Well, you do everything, we do
everything. What's the what's a goodtime span? If we will say,
if you're going to do that, give them a week. Try to try

(01:05:45):
to give you a week. Iwould go ahead and get am in as
soon as possible because the quantity oforders that we've got already, it's gonna
take time. What is your numberone holiday dish that y'all get orders for.
Hey, it's it's even span acrossthat. Uh, there's no particular
one. To be honest with you, I am. I didn't know if

(01:06:09):
it would be Barbie barbe between thebarbecue and the fried chicken. Really,
Yes, I'm the macaroni guy.I love y'all macaroni. Good lord,
I'm the fried chicken guy. Butlately everybody's starting to get into the chicken
legs and that's my favorite part,and that's the kid's favorite. And I
normally have to sit there and waitfor a refill to get to get plenty

(01:06:32):
of legs. I need to ordera case. It just legs for you,
say you donet started something now?Every time you're coming. Now,
Tom's gonna have you four chicken legsstuck off to the side somewhere well,
and the and the is it shortribs? Is that we call them short?
The ribs? God, those arethose are great too. That's another
that's another item that I typically havenot tried on the buffet until here.

(01:06:54):
And they're soft moist, I meangreat. And the pork chops, the
pork chops good. Everything's good. And we do the pork loins and cutting
ourself every day. Everything's good. And I always have to make sure I
get plenty of hush puppies and rolls. Gotta have them. The rolls are
good. But man, we loveit. Y'all come down to Judy Boons

(01:07:15):
and I tell you what we're gonnado. One more gift card. Here's
the deal. We got what twentyminutes left? No fifteen minutes Leftah,
all right, So everybody's up andat them. We're right here sitting in
front of Judy Boons ship ship cook. Tommy Wilson's sitting here with us.
Pull up the trilogy Outdoors Tundra sittingright here. Pull up and tell them
tell us you heard it on theGator and we're gonna give you a twenty

(01:07:39):
five dollars gift card to come hereand enjoy and hang out with Tommy and
enjoy some of his great cooking anduh great boot here. But Tommy,
thank you so much. We're gonnatalk some more fishing. You're more than
welcome to sit and keep talking.Pission. Yeah. Let Jamie work.
Yeah, Let jab keep work.Would be a change face. Let jam

(01:07:59):
keep good. Well, I'll tellyou what there's Uh Jason, what's Charter's
been like? What? How's thebusiness been? Is it? We we
definitelyransition. It's transitioning. You know, we're not quite as busy as we
were at the end of summer inthe beginning of fall. But the thing
that people don't realize is the bestfishing of the year starts right now.
And so what we're seeing, whichis typical this time of years, were

(01:08:21):
real busy on the weekends, theweekdays kind of you know, hit and
miss. But you talk about incrediblefishing. There's a reason why we got
the Inshore Slam Tournament coming up intwo weeks. This is it, I
mean, best some of the besttrout fishing you'll see all year, best
red fishing flounder. They're still catchingking mackerel on the beach, probably for
another week, still getting a fewof those bullreds. I mean it now

(01:08:43):
it's the time to come fishing.Yeah. I saw some big bullreds called
uh actually, Steven Goldpinch went out. They went out last week one day
on one of those last calm daysthat we had. Because it's been blowing
every day. It's been blowing everyday. It's been blowing. I see
other things that kind of kept y'allkind of stuck in the creeks. But
the big bull reds hit. Theywent sighte fishing for him on the beach.

(01:09:04):
They were chasing them in Georgetown onthe beach. Yeah, sight fishing
for them and that that does soundlike a lot of point that shallow water.
I can't imagine. I watched thaton TV. I can't imagine seeing
it in person. Yeah, speakingof TV, who's in Charleston. Is
that open to public? Is thatevent open to the public. You have

(01:09:25):
to sign up ahead of time.Okay. It is one of the biggest
shamano events in the country. They'vegot c A. Richardson there. They've
got Carter Carter Andrews, the worldrenowned Carter Andrews, and they are stacked
with bass guys. I think youcould sign up five minutes before he goes
from nine to three today. It'sright there. The coolest thing about this
it's at the Shamanos factory headquarters.Right is that headquarters If you've ever been

(01:09:50):
in that place, when you walkin the coolest display I've ever seen in
my life. They have their reelsbroken down into every single part in shadow
boxes on the all so you couldsee from every little washer and spring and
screw. Probably one of the coolestdisplays I've ever seen in fishing. No
thank you, because I I thatwould just over up. I can't do

(01:10:13):
it now. Is how many reelshave you ever made an attempt to clean
and ton all the parts? That'swhy I got I got that new spray.
I got that new spray. Ijust spray it on there and let
it real magic and let it rise. What's most fishermen do. They they've
cracked the seal on them and thenhit them with the water hose and it's
shooting the grease in them. Butit's crazy to think about that. I

(01:10:34):
mean, I think the one reelone of their spinning reels has almost two
hundred individual parts to make it work, like you would never guess that.
Yep. Well, you know whatwe're gonna have to do is I gotta
find out, do we Jason, who do we have now that we can
send fishes to, or or wecan go to who do we have for

(01:10:54):
real repair? I know we candrop it off at Paul's on I Will
Will's got a guy down there.Do we have anybody up here? We
don't do it. I don't thinkwe have anybody. I don't think we
do. You had some wonderful guyslocally. One of them moved away.
I think one of them relocated theirshop to a different area. But yeah,
there's definitely a licking, you know, the service department side, because

(01:11:15):
we're coming into you know, alot of people this time of the year
that are scared of cold weather mightnot fish much. But this is a
great time over the next couple ofmonths to get you real service. And
I'm gonna tell you from experience, servicing your rods and reels can make a
big difference in how long they last. Yeah, I mean, Jamie quit

(01:11:36):
lapping at me from a charter guide'sstandpoint. You know, if we take
care of these rod and reels,we'll get a couple of seasons out of
them. But we're using them everysingle day. If you don't, you
know a lot of the times whenyou let them sit up over the winter
and you don't use them, andthat, you know, oil and stuff
starts to break down and stuff, and that's when you have problems. You
go in the springtime, you're readyto go. You put a new line
on your favorite reel and you goout there and you get the old grinder,

(01:12:00):
any of you like? All right? Uh? The other thing I
do need to mention Scotty Captain ScottLambert called me from time of the State
Army to let me know, Yes, you already know, I already know.
I already got to let me knowthat if you remember back during the
grand opening the uh what was thecombo? Whis a pin battle on the

(01:12:21):
pen battle three on the g loomisno on a finwick wick yep and you'll
never believe the price ever. Nope, mine got destroyed. I never got
to tie a lure on it.Ninety nine dollars up. Yep, they're
doing it again, Black Ritay Yep. That reel by itself is usually one
hundred and thirty bucks. So basicallyyou're getting a portion of the real free

(01:12:41):
and the rod for free. Andhe said they got a big shipment coming
in. He texts me yesterday. That is awesome. Our charter guiys right
now, that is one of theabsolute best trout rods you ever put in
your hand. Yep, ninety ninebucks, Like that's ridiculous. Yeah,
I can't even see that. Itprobably costs you thirty dollars just put line
on it, you know, AndI mean ninety nine bucks. Anyways,

(01:13:01):
I told some of our guides they'reto MFC and they're lined up today getting
ready for as soon as he givesthe word where we're going up there to
get a bunch. Now, I'lltell you another rod that I have been
super impressed with. Rod and realcombo that I've been super impressed with.
And both our friends at elett RocksBiting Tackle and at Perry's Beaten Tackle carry
a lot of them, and thatis the thirteen combos. A lot of

(01:13:26):
our captains use this. They aregreat combos, they really do. They
fish great, they hold up,they seem to hold up and a lot
of the charter guys were using them. Yeah. Yeah, Captain Crystal that's
all she uses. Captain Aiden usesthose, and they come in some cool
colors. They have a hey dothat lime green one? Every time I
see that one, I'm just likesomebody went in my head and just took

(01:13:47):
my ideas and threw it on therodden reel. But it is stay out
of my donuts. Oh all right, folks, the one and only Jamie
Johnson has joined us. I suckeredhim into sitting down. Now. He's
been trying to avoid it, butsince Tommy had to get on here,
we're gonna make it. Jamie, get on here a little bit and talk
to us. Yeah, this guytold us. Now you didn't hear this,

(01:14:11):
Yeah, he told us. Well, you know, Tommy, he's
a he's kind of quiet and shine. You know, you have to kind
of get it out of And Mom'ssitting there thinking to myself, does he
talking about the same time that Iknow. I know that's not the same
dude. No. Now, nowlet's see who's the shy one in his
crab, right, Jamie. SoTommy keeps all that chaos organized in the

(01:14:33):
kitchen, it's your job to keepit organized out front. No, no,
it's all Tommy. Now. Wewe are blessed to have Tommy and
in my opinion, in the beststaff. So the girls and the guys
in the kitchen, with Tommy's help, make this place run one thousand percent
through and through every day. Tommy'shere seven days a week, and so

(01:14:57):
sore are our kitchen staff. Soall I have to do is open up
the doors and keep the lights on. They do the rest. So it's
Tommy show. Like I said,I just have to keep the doors open
the lights on. Well, y'alldo a great job here. JB.
You do a great job keeping thatstaff happy, keeping them here. We
were talking about that and how awesome. Ye, there's the sign is there's
the sun. You're talking about howgood a job and your staff does.

(01:15:21):
They are awesome. They're always youknow, and you've got everything from I'm
guessing fifteen and sixteen year old hostesses. We've got fifteen year old, sixteen
year old young ladies and gentlemen hostingbusting to we even have a few young
at heart ladies who are our serversin the sixties and they're just phenomenal.

(01:15:44):
They work their tails off. Weare open, like I said, six
days a week, Tuesday through Saturdayeleven am to eight pm, and then
Sunday ten thirty. Now we openup thirty minutes early and we close now
two o'clock on Sundays. I justheard that. Shannon just told me that
y'all started closing it too now onSundays. These girls and guys work their

(01:16:06):
tails off. Like I said,I don't know how they do it.
That that closing at too on Sunday. I mean, I've seen people lined
up still trying to come in,and we get them in. Listen,
we get them in. Don't worry. We're not going to turn away any
when we just have Whenever you haveso many people, we have three thousand

(01:16:26):
people coming through the week, ittakes a little bit extra time for us
as a staff to get back,to recuperate and get ready for the next
business day. So we cut itan hour earlier than we had been just
so we could start getting everything cleaned, restocked, and also to give some
of them a little break, yep, a little break, yep. It's

(01:16:50):
uh, you know. Still youhear so many places struggling to find help,
struggling to keep help when they getit. And it doesn't seem me
all a short staff. You seemto keep your staff blessed. We are
truly blessed. And again that goesthrough. I'm pretty sure Pork and Link

(01:17:10):
probably doesn't have his trouble and DripWoods doesn't have trouble. And again,
you know, even in one ofthe ads I talk about being and how
it starts a credible restaurant tour thathe is, he starts with him.
He's phenomenal. Yep, he is. And I hate we missed him this
morning. I know he's busy. He's uh, what's he doing this morning?
You can say he's cooking us todo to help out some people at
Blaine Church. We're doing a brunch, but he's been here. He met

(01:17:36):
me, He actually beat me herethis morning. And right now the guys
are helping him out in the back, cooking for him. But he's doing
a brunch for Blaine, helping themout. But Tommy had to do some
special ordering some items that we don'tcarry. But now Bean's been cooking it
at the actual location and then comeback here to get the rest of it.

(01:17:57):
So he's he's one hundred seven daysweek. Also, yeah, and
Tommy already covered we talked about preordering for the holidays for food, and
make sure you go ahead and getthe ordering now, yes, sir.
Yeah, So November nineteenth will bethe last day we take any catern's order
catering orders for Thanksgiving, okay, and then you'll be able to pick it
up that Wednesday to twenty second, and we close at eight o'clock that night.

(01:18:20):
And in Thanksgiving Day we'll be openat ten am to three pm for
fifteen ninety nine oven roaster turkey, baked ham, Tommy's special dressing, mashed
potatoes, giblick gravy, green beans, rolls, mac and cheese, fried
chicken, prossers, very old poolfor barbecue. Every day. He's killing

(01:18:41):
me everything, he's killing me.This is like the torture. Let me

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
