This week we hauled the Toyota Tundra down to the beautiful Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet to do the show at Murrells Inlet Fishing Charters. Capt Jason was down this week and under the weather, but Capt Chris played host to Capt E, The Bassmaster, Bert Williams, Don Nesmith, Chef Richard and JAson Grant and Michael Holmes via phone. We had lots to talk about this week with the fishing turning on and the Easter Week being super bisy for all of our partners on the water. We are joined by Jason Grant of First Mate Marine to discusss the Georgetown Meatfish Slam coming up on April 13th thru the 20th out of Georgetown Landing Marina. This event is gonna be bigger and better with the addition of some great sponsors and increased promotion of the evetn. We are also joined by our good friend from Sparks Toyota, Michael Holmes. Michael's son Luca was diagnosed with Leukemia and has been going through several years of treatment and is just a month away from his last scheduled treatment. The Holmes family have started a non-profit to help families that are faced with the same diagnosis and to prepare them for the battle ahead. We will be sharing all the info for their events in the coming months and we hope that the Fishheads will participate and help support this group. Bert Williams of Monarch Roofing joins us to chat a litte about some upcoming events that they have going on that will help raise funds for their incredible charity. We are blessed to have a platform to helo so many great groups and our incredible sponors. Thank you to all that listen in to the show and podcast each week. This week we also have an extra segment at the end that includes Doin Nesmith and the one and only Private Chef to the Stars, Chef Richard Florczack. Enjoy!!!!

Good Morning, Fish is welcome tothe Southern English Radio Show, coming to
you live via the Toyota Tundra Studiopresented by Sparks Toyota, where the dealer

(01:29):
is always in, and by KeyWest Boats of Morris's, Marino Lake City
and Georgetown, where every day isa boat show every day, and by
the Freedom Boat Club where your boatis waiting. Hey, And speaking of
waiting boats, boy, Captain Chrishas had a busy morning down here,
little excite man. We got itall figured out and we're good to going
up and running. You know what, though, that's the thing you guys

(01:51):
are always good at though. Gettingit figured out, got to gotta make
people happy. Speaking of which, how many all right? So now Sprinkles
has got the the the grand chilling, yep, old grand chilling back in
the water. How many boats combined? Now do y'all have between on the
fly and and m IFC with flatsboats? We're up to twelve boats.

(02:14):
Twelve? Wow? Yeah, sowe we've got everything covered. You want
to do shallow water to offshore,we got you. Wow. That is
awesome. Hey, we are herelive at Merle's nit Fishing Charters, contrary
to our plans, which were tobe at Sparks Toyota, and I will
tell you that scheduling a big remoteparty on Easter weekend was not very smart

(02:38):
and I am the king of makingnot so smart decisions. Unfortunately, well,
Captain Chris actually had to give acharter away so we could be with
us this morning. Thank you forthat, absolutely, yeah, we do
appreciate it. Chris and the restof the crowd, you know, obviously
picked up some troops and they're busy. The weather this week was terrible.

(02:59):
As I'm so ready to see March. Yesterday was our best day and even
at the end of our afternoon trip, it really started blowing again. But
the morning was beautiful. It wasa little chilly, no end, fish
bit good afternoon, same thing. It was beautiful out. So we started
out with, you know, fivelayers and got down to two by the
end of the day. And we'resweating. So I know a guy yesterday

(03:22):
morning who went turkey hunting, andthat individual did not look at it's forecast.
Oh no, And that individual tookhis six year old son and I
left my house it was forty fivedegrees. When I arrived at the hunting
grounds, it was thirty seven andcontrary to normal Believe anybody, this turkey
hunter understands each cold of mornings, you don't expect to hear them. Like

(03:46):
dude, it was a perfect dayto go. Ruscott du Get excited,
his heart heart pumping, but unfortunatelyhe was shaking so bad, and it
wouldn't because of being excited. Wewere freezing. Oh no, but if
anything yesterday was enough to make himhe will go back. He's got the
bug. Well, man, whenyou got five Tom's within one hundred yards

(04:09):
of you, they are just competeand just I mean it's just non stop.
I mean just I mean, that'sexactly what it sounded like right there.
That's no thing, just non stop. You know, it's enough to
get you going. But so soI'm gonna you know here, I am,

(04:30):
I'm this is week number two ofadmitting mistakes. So fortunately we did
not shoot a turkey yesterday. Sometimesseeing that though, that's enough to get
him excited, to get him interestedwhere he wants to go back, right,
do it again. But let meexplain to you why, folks,
if you have a young child whofalls under the don't need a license,

(04:53):
please understand, if it's a permittedanimal, in other words, a turkey
or a deer, they still haveto have permit. I did not know.
Therefore, we will not be goingback until we go to Interer and
go get our turkey down. RussRouss So, yes, great, I
mean anything, everything worked out perfectyesterday because I can just see. You

(05:15):
know, obviously, immediately upon harvestingthat bird, we would have been taking
pictures. They would have been onFacebook, and here would have been this
turkey with no tag on his leg. So I did not know that either,
honestly I did not. It shockedme. I was like, they
don't have to have a license, but they have to have a I guess

(05:36):
it's because it's a federally protected animal. No, it's it's just because it's
a permitted And I'll tell you why. Typically that that permitting is to keep
up with accounts. It helps withoh yeah, harvest count so and real
quick, I meant to do thisfirst thing. Saint James Sharks golf team

(05:58):
had their record setting day yesterday.I believe they're at Tradition Club playing in
a big tournament. I want towish all of them the best of luck
today is round two Jackson Denny seventyfive, I think is what he fired.
Best of luck to the entire golfteam. And that's that's awesome.
You know, I'd like to beI'd like to be giving him a shout
out for catching big fish, buthey, golf's important too. Hey,

(06:21):
growing up myself and you know,we didn't have bass fishing back then for
high school and middle school and firstgraders and everything else. So yeah,
we did. You was just thenerd. If you did that, you're
right, Yeah you couldn't. Well, I guess you could be a nerd.
But where I grew up, therewasn't much nerds. You were redneck

(06:42):
or redneck here a redneck or redneck. I'd like to see it go back
to those days for just a littlewhile. Yeah. Absolutely, Hey,
let me real quick. Let's talkabout who we have joined us speaking us
Fork Toyota. My friend Michael Holmes. We have talked about him, We've
had him on the show in thepast. Michael's son Luca, was diagnosed
with cancer three years ago. Ibelieve has fought a very hard battle and

(07:06):
at this point is winning it.And with that, with that being said,
Michael wanted to do something for otherfamilies that will be challenged with this
diagnosis and all the things that goalong with it. So Michael has started
a five of one Sea and theyare going to be helping other families with

(07:28):
this through a golf tournament start offwith. They'll be doing this summer.
We'll talk with Michael about that.Michael's going to join us after the sales
meeting out there as sparks which heget out there, kind of took home
or tundra or anything. It's theend of the month. Got to go
ahead and throw some cars. Goout there and see Michael or Dave Bowering
of course, the one and onlyChip Bull. And if he's not fishing,

(07:50):
he's selling cars. Do you knowwho that is, the Blue Express.
Yeah, you know. Yeah,So get out there and visit that
sales staff, but also join usJason Grant First Mates and I'll tell you
First Mates is a really cool company. Their concept was great, I thought
when they started to Yeah, youfollow them on Facebook. And Jason is

(08:13):
revamping, rebuilding, rebranding the meatFish Slam out of the Georgetown Land and
Marina. I've always said in thepast that tournament could be a really big
tournament since we had, you know, no other local really you know,
short term off short tournaments like otherthan the Blue Marlin event down there down

(08:33):
there. Yeah, and he hasdone a great job, got some incredible
sponsors. Uh. The price isunbelievable to get into the general tournament.
It is unbelievable. But Jason isgoing to be joined us from the water.
He's actually fishing in Georgetown right now. Jason's gonna join us and talk
about that. Don't forget. Iknow everybody's really started talking about the habitat

(08:56):
for humanity in short Slam down inGeorgetown. Uh, that is coming up.
It'll be here before you know it. But prior to that, we
obviously got the Planner Tournament on thetwenty seventh. I think we're all participate.
We're all gonna be participating in that. And then after that is the
Chilele Everybody give me Gary, I'mso sorry. I can never say it

(09:18):
right, the Chilele Planner Tournament. But then we've got the kids fishing Rodeo
in Georgetown County, which is alwaysa blast at Eight Oaks coming up in
May. But man, it's thattime of the year. Is super you
know, great things happening. Areyou? You're fishing with us on the
fourteenth. This is another thing, the Marshall's Marine Fishing Tournament that we're having

(09:39):
on the fourteenth year. Yes,I will be here. Yeah, it's
a private tournament, yes, yes, yes, yeah, but it is.
Yeah, I gotta remember that.Marshall's Marshall's Marine Appreciation Day and trilogy
and m I f C and onthe Fly. We're gonna have a good
time. We're gonna go out andman, so here here's one thing I
thought about Carolina hooking flying. Iknow, am I saying on the plaza

(10:01):
It's all Mike, It's all right, okay. Anyway, well, this
is what happens when you two bignames and combining them. That's it,
you know. Uh, but weare going to have a blast. And
and uh, in talking yesterday withGod, I said, you know what
we're gonna do. There's gonna bea Barbie Rod on every boat. There
should be, so no matter whatyou catch on that boat, for your

(10:26):
fish to count, you have tocatch a fish on a Barbie Rod down
for it. And it's gonna haveto be videos. You're gonna have to
have a video of it. Andhopefully by then we'll have the new trilogy
outdoors television up out here, sowe can come back and we can watch
everybody's again. And we're gonna bewatching the final round of the Masters,
so in which Tiger Woods is comingback. Hopefully he'll be playing on Sunday.

(10:48):
We'll see how I am a bigTiger Woods fan. It's hard not
to be. It's hard not tobe. I'm sorry, but the man
makes golf what it is he does. He has what he's done for,
Look at what he's done for.Yes, has he has? He had
some hiccups? Yes, we allhad uh, we all have had some
hiccups, Sean Bond, our goodbuddy from down at Crazy System Marina.

(11:11):
It also maybe join us. I'mhoping he's. I know they had some
shrimping plans today. They were gonnathey had a permit for a test drag
so off the beach here, soI know that Robert and some of the
guys were going to do that. But he said that he may roll over
on the golf cart and come hangout with us. But is that through

(11:31):
coastal I'm sorry, is that throughcoastal Carolina? Oh? I think it's
through the state. I think it'sthrough the Maybe we get him to explain
it because the research boat has beendown there all week. Okay, there,
so that's yeah. Uh well, let's talk about the pision real quick.
Let's let's talk about merles Inlet.What's what's Biden? It's actually been
pretty good. We uh that windand cold, we kind of we hit

(11:54):
a little snag. It got toughfor us. He really had to work
for it. But uh, yesterdaywas an amazing day. Everything trout,
reds, black Drum, they're they'reall still here. We've had a couple
good you know, I think ourbiggest flounder this week was just over three
pounds, you know, twenty anda half inches. Jimmy caught that,
and uh, it's it's getting betterevery day. And if we can get

(12:16):
this stable weather pattern to continue,it's only going to get hotter. So
there's a lot of short flounder inthe creeks. You just got to kind
of pick through them and put yourtime in. But there's fish here.
Yeah, So did I see anyBenito picture? There is? There were
still they're still here. Spanish areshowing up. The blues are really thick,
so there's there's a lot of stuffto be caught. There's still sheep's

(12:39):
head and black drum at the reefs. Yep, they're all still there.
So we just need the weather toget there. You mentioned. And I
know they get a they get areally bad rap, but I don't care
this time of the year. Yeah, the blue beish are freaking huge.
They are angry too. They area lot of punt are a lot of
artificial white tackle. It's hard tobeat that, you know, and there's

(13:01):
a lot of people that eat them. Are you casting jigs at them or
what are you doing casting leads?Stuff like that? Okay, clarkspoons.
You can put a trolling sinker onwith a short leader with a clarkspoon on
and accomplished the same thing. Well, you and I were talking about weak
fish in text the other day. That certain spot where I was talking about

(13:22):
where I found them. Yeah, are those males you think? Because we
didn't catch any big ones, andI was just wonder, do you think
the males come here and then makethe move to the reef to do their
deal? I mean, obviously ittakes a mail and a female to do
that strong possibility. I don't know. I completely forgot about those fish yesterday
because I probably should have went outthere and tried to target them. But

(13:43):
I know at the reef yesterday theydid not bite until a certain point in
the tide yep, So they weregetting very finicky, and you had about
a twenty to thirty minute window whereif you had five people on the boat
you couldn't keep up right, sothey just chewt they So when I found
them last Sunday, you know itwas I told you it was a weird

(14:05):
deal. I spun the live scopearound and saw seven fish and all of
a sudden they started biting. Itwas fun, I mean I've got video
and and and and out of respectto you, I have not shared that
video because it does show exactly wherewe are. But I mean, we
have bob We're we're doing a countdownon the Bobber, like literally like rush

(14:28):
rush, those is out there. We put it out, We come to
the computer screen, I'm video inthe live scope and I'm like, all
right, Russ, your Bobber isgetting ready to go down, and we
pan over into Bobber's down. That'sfunny. But they were all pounders,
you know, pounding that half legal. But but that's another limit weak fish,

(14:48):
great trout, uh, summer trout. That's another limit that I've just
am blown away by one. Iwish they would do a reassessment of it.
No, I mean, you know, it's been like that for a
couple of years when there was bigfish kill Yep, a lot right or
somewhere up north, all up anddown the coast. We actually had a
big fish kill here with it aswell. Okay, So hopefully among all

(15:09):
the other species that need to bere evaluated, hopefully that's one of them.
Because there is a strong population ofthem. You can go out there
and catch one hundred of them intwenty minutes, right, you know.
And the same thing like you canthrow small swim baits and catch them and
that is fun. You get atwenty five hundred or three thousand on a
light action rod and that is agood time. Yep. And and what
are your thoughts on the Texas regulationchange on speckled trout. I'm happy for

(15:33):
it. Yeah, I think thatI think they needed it. You know,
you look at Texas and Louisiana.Their limits were so high that you
know, all the charterboat captains downthere have been for years complaining about it.
The same thing, the conservation, the population. A lot of the
guys that I follow. Louisiana isone of the big ones that I follow,
yep. And every one of thoseones down there between the netting of

(15:56):
the man Hayden, uh, youknow, just everything going on. The
limits are too high, yep.But they are they are they That's the
simple math on it. You're gonnafish it out. Man. You talk
about some nasty dock pictures, Boy, they do it in the Louisiana.
They do boat pictures where the boat, the deck of the boat, it's

(16:18):
just completely covered in reds and troutYeah, they don't even it takes too
long to line them up. Theyjust dumble them on there, jump them
on there. Yeah, And I'lltell you I think our friends that release
over twenty you know they I noticedthat they shared it obviously because they did
take twenty inches as the max ofthe slot, right it is, and
then it's one or over one trophyfish. Yeah, so that that twenty

(16:44):
to thirty inches is protected, andI think that is what we need.
So here's the other thing. Ithink three trout are plenty. Yeah,
listen, I would be happy withfive trout doesn't freeze, well, nope,
it does. So it's unless you'regonna eat it fresh. It does
not freeze. Well yeah, turnscrew. It gets mushy. And even those
big ones, you don't want toeat those anyway. It's like eating the
big King mackerel. Yep. Allright, well, Jenna, I'll tell

(17:07):
you what. That's a great openingsegment. Guys, Thank y'all so much,
Chris, thanks for making sure youcould hang out with us today.
We got a lot more show left, but we got some great interviews.
Jenna, are you there all right? Listen, we're gonna go to break.
We come back on the other sideof the break, I sat down
with two of them. I'm two. I'm gonna call them the dream Team

(17:30):
and and I'm glad to have apart in putting them together. But Marshall's
Marine has two new sales members downin Georgetown, Claire Collins and Captain Robbie
Remsen, two good friends of mine, and I sat down with them yesterday
talk a little bit about life atMarshall's Marine and be a new salesman down
there, and you know, joiningthe family not only as customers, but

(17:55):
joining the family as a sales teammember. And it was a great interview.
So when we come back on theother side of this break, we're
gonna listen to that interview. Jenna. All right, here we go,
folks. Hey, y'all, don'tgo anywhere. We'll be right back.
Got some got a great show today. This is the Southern English radio show
on the Gator one oh seven pointnine. Perries Beaten Tackle has been making
their customers' days on the water moresuccessful and enjoyable for nearly seventy years.

(18:19):
Perry's is a fully staffed and stockfamily owned tackle shop just north of the
Marshwall. They have always taken pridein the best hand tied rigs, and
a knowledgeable staff that is comprised ofcharter captains and experienced anglers. Their close
proximity to the water allow them tooffer the very best in live bait,
and the options are endless. Perisis now fully stocked with everything you need

(18:42):
to make your day on the waterof success. If you're in town visiting
with no equipment, Perry's is yourone stop shop with apperil tackle, baits,
rods and reels and boating supplies.Perry's Beaten Tackle serving Merls Inlet since
nineteen four. All right, folks, we're back in live now. We

(19:03):
are here on Jason's big wooden deckat IFC and joining us on the phone
line now, like we promised,is our good friend Jason Grant, First
Mates Marine. But also he isthe dude. I'm calling you the tournament
director, but I know you arethe dude. You're you're doing an incredible
job building and promoting the Meatfish Slam, which you and I talked about it,

(19:26):
and I told you I thought itwas a tournament that had not been
getting enough exposure in years in thepast, and I think this year You've
done an incredible job and changing thatformat to where we can actually pick a
couple of days during that seven dayor eight day spen is crucial, dude.
But let's talk real quick about theMeatfish Slam and let everybody know the

(19:49):
things that are going on with it, because I know you've made some changes
and everything else. Right Well,in the past, it's the months before
the Marlin Tournament in Georgetown, soit's always everybody sort of hyped up about
Marlon Tournament. The meat Fish iskind of a warm up, so it's
been all, Yeah, we're gonnafish it, but nobody really talks about
it. And let's make it bigger. Let's make it the tournament that just

(20:10):
looked forward to. So we decidedto change the format to a week long.
That way give everybody more of anopportunity pick two days to fish.
Aggregate categories dolphin, wahoo, tuna, and are all in a one you
and just that two day pick isjust crucial for giving everybody an opportunity to

(20:30):
get out there before fishing season reallystarts heating up. Absolutely ed. The
format of the tournament overall is anaggregate of wahoo, tuna and dolphin,
correct, correct, correct, yougotta have all three? Yeah, I
think you hit it on the nosewhere they're always. It was always very
last minute. You never saw anyadvertising for it, and it would pop

(20:52):
up on like a Facebook memory orsomething. You were that I think you
were in the group text last lastyear. We said we were. It
was like two days before the tournament, were like, Hey, have any
of y'all heard about this tournament? No. I was like, I guess
they don't want the guys from Merle'sin the right. I mean, that's
just that. That was the waywe looked at it. But it was
hard. So I'm glad you're takingit under and doing some improvements and some

(21:14):
changes to it. Yeah, andwe and dude, the dockage thing,
explain how that works, because that'sanother issue that a lot of people have,
you know a lot of times withthese boats. I mean, it's
pretty expensive to run the boat fromhere down to Georgetown af Fish and back.
But let's talk about that. Ithink you've got some dockage set up.
Yeah, free dockage during the tournamentweek that way, take you at

(21:36):
merles Ellant. Just have a runnercar if you will, to take you
back up but the boat can stayat the marina all week from that Friday
before Thursday before whenever you want toget down until the tournament ends that next
Saturday Sunday weekend. So no chargethere, come from wherever you want to
leave the boat there. That wayyou don't have to worry about putting it
in and out. Yeah, that'simpressive. That is that's a that's a

(21:57):
great, great idea and and Ido know a lot of people that will
take advantage of that. And there'snothing there's not a party like a dock
partyland and marina. That's probably oneof the best features of this tournament.
You know, we're never gonna makeit as big as a saying more than
tournament, but you never know.I want to keep it where the cat

(22:18):
you know, you never know. The captains meeting and the wars party is
always on the dock. We'll havefood, we'll have plenty of beverages.
But to get off the boat andthe party be right there is always fun.
That is the fun. The camaraderie, you know, the smack talking
and all that good stuff. Theside that's yeah, the side middle who's
gonna win the party? Yeah, yeah, yeah, No doubt about it.

(22:42):
I'll tell you what. The guysat Georgetown Land and Marina also have
really stepped it up down there, and they they probably don't hear it enough,
but how much we appreciate them asanglers that fish the King Micherel series,
the Wahoo series, the Dolphins series, in the fact that they give
themselves up to be a way stationand they're always courteous to help you tie

(23:03):
weight off. If you need someextra ice, they got you covered.
Yep. They're always super polite toeveryone they are. That crew down there
is great and you know, Ithink it's a perfect scenario. And again,
you know, like we mentioned,I don't think the tournament got near
enough publicity in the past, andyou have done an incredible job. Let's
let's real quick. Let's let's shipgears a little bit from this, because

(23:25):
I want to talk about your businessbecause I really think your concept. When
you and I met at the boatshow two years ago, you had just
you had just launched the First MatesMarine. Am I saying that correct?
That's correct, First Mates Marine? And you you were super pumped up,
as we all are when we starta business, and I really thought your
concept at that point was great, and now where you've moved and brought in

(23:51):
some incredible pieces to the puzzle asfar as your sales program, sales staff,
and everything else. But real quick, explain to everybody what First Mates
Marine is and exactly what you guysoffer. Okay, so we're out of
Georgetown. Three of us include myself, used to work together for a long
time at another marine dealer. Sowe have a service side, of finance

(24:12):
side, and the cell site, but not your traditional boat dealer. So
we are a if you will quoteunquote third party finance company where we do
new and use boats for any andeverybody. If you find a boat,
we can finance it. We dohelp some dealers as their extension of staff
as their finance program for some dealers. So you go buy a boat at

(24:33):
a couple of dealers around here,we're the ones doing the financing for them.
The other side is we're heavy onbrokerage. I tried to get friends
and people I've worked with over theyears up and down the coast from Bluffing
and now we just stretch. We'reabout to take a step over the state
line, so we're covered Blufton CharlestonMerle's Inllant, Georgetown, North Myrtle Beach

(24:59):
in the Little River area. Rightnow, I think we have eight of
us. I'm starting to lose count. And then we're also heavy on what
we call boat management and mobile servicekind of combined, so we will come
to you to do anything, butwe really push this proactive approach to boat
management. You call us, willyour guy that you pick up the phone

(25:19):
and say, hey, I havean issue coming up or I'm coming down
for Easter weekend. Can y'all gocheck on my boat make sure everything is
good to go before I get there. So you're spending time on the water
in that time fixing your boat.So we offer plans that kind of a
prepaid way to just not worry aboutit, and all you have to do
is pick up the phone and it'sanything from hurricane removal to full scale audio

(25:45):
solutions, power poles, troller murders, if you just need it clean before
you come down. A lot ofguys in Georgetown that we have customers and
say DEVI do or bell out. They take advantage of what we call our
walk on, walk off service wherethey call us on say Wednesdays and I'm
coming down for the weekend, Cany'all get my boat in the water.
So we'll go get the boat, fill it up with gas, clean it

(26:07):
up, not falling off, putit in the water, and they enjoy
it on the weekend, and thenMonday morning we go pick it up and
put it back in their yard ortheir store. There. Nice. That
saves a lot of time with thesecond houses, I need to get yours
number. That side of things isreally taken off. And that's kind of
the center of everything we do becauseonce we get you as that boat management

(26:27):
customer, we want to be yourcustomer for everything in the future. To
help you find the boat to buy, to help sell your boat, learn
the registration questions. That's that thatis a that that is an incredible service
to offer it. And and youknow you keep mentioned in that South end
down there, because that is aperfect scenario. I mean that that Debuto
bell out of brink exactly right. And and you mentioned it again. The

(26:52):
guys that come down, you know, they fly in to I mean a
lot of them fly into Georgetown andand drive over to the house, and
man, the first thing they wantto do is go catch your red fish.
And they go down and the batteriesdead, the boat dirty as hell,
and and and having that opportunity tojust get on the boat, like
you said, walk on, walkoff. I mean, can cure the

(27:14):
two foot itis where you should havegot that bigger boat. You know you
want that? Yeah, yep,you want that two ft itis. We'll
take care of it. We'll sellthe boat while you're gone, exactly,
and we'll put the new boat onthe on the We'll have it on the
trailer, on the on the uhwhatever, We'll have it ready for you.
How do people find out more informationon first Mate marine and on the

(27:34):
tournament? Where can we send themto? Okay? For first Mates,
website is first mates dot net,First mates dot net, Okay. Then
of course on Facebook, Instagram,TikTok, YouTube, all those channels.
Tournament wise. Reach out to Davidat Georgetown Landing for any kind of entry
or any specific tournament questions. Yep, and I got that number. I

(27:56):
shared it. Yep, let methrow in one more ten it for our
sponsors. Come on to the tournament. Yeah, please do. Without them,
we wouldn't have these accurgates. Itwould have just been a wash tournament.
So I made one phone call topeople I know that will be fishing.
And they said, here's the money, So green Wave Contracting, when
y'all record, Anderson Brothers, Bank, United Rendalls and Coastal Structures, their

(28:18):
Civil and Industrial Division. I thinkyou got them all green Waves, ye
Rends, Anderson Brothers, whin y'allrecord and Coastal Structures, and what they's
gouts jump jumped out the gate. And what they did is so we're we're
we're talking bonus money for categories.Correct, that's in there as well general
entry. And we wouldn't have thatno way. But what general entry?

(28:41):
Let's talk about that and we cango over the TWT's real quick. But
what is the general entry for thetournament? Just general basic entry is two
hundred dollars. Have you ever fishedin an off shore tournament for two hundred
dollars? The red Fish insure thered Fish tournaments are more. Yeah,
exactly, how do you beat that? You can't? And that was the
other thing. The format you've setup. You know, while you have

(29:03):
that opportunity to go two days, you can actually win the tournament on one
day. You can, Yeah, for sure if you get out there and
and and have a Glenn Wilson Dayor a Jay Weaver day. You can
you can go out there. Youcan go out there and do it in
uh in one day. But man, it's a great it's a great format,

(29:26):
great tournament. We're glad to bea part of it, glad to
be promoting it, and we're lookingforward outdoors for helping me too. Man.
We we we appreciate the opportunity.Man, it's been it's been fun
promoting it and we're looking forward toit. That's gonna be a fun week
down there. We're I'm just hopingthat my partner can can get some time
off from landscaping. Yeah. Yeah, I gotta start calling friends. How

(29:48):
do I lose my partner? Iknow? How do I lose my partner
to a job? I mean that'sthe hard part. How do I lose
heart part? What is Lucas doingworking? I mean, come on,
he was supposed to be a fisherman. Man. We're looking forward to it,
Jason, and and thank you somuch for taking the time. This
morning. I go back to catchand Brigham just so y'all know he's over
there in the river catching fish. But but thank you so much. And

(30:11):
listen, if we can we'll geton together again between now and then or
something or meat down there and andshoot another video or do do something before
the tournament and get it on socialmedia. Say before he goes, how's
the bait over there? Yeah?Heytch yeah, give us a fresh water
report. Here's my excuse. Right, I'm fishing in uncharted territory because I'm
staying in cell range, but I'mabout to head south and hopefully find my

(30:33):
holes. There you go, there, you go? All right, man,
Well listen, best of luck toyou brother, Thanks for joining us
again. Okay, all right, guys, thank you, all right bye.
All right, So, uh let'sgo to one more commercial break,
Jenna, and then we've got MichaelHolmes's gonna be joining us. But the
one and only Burt Williams is inthe house. We're gonna get him on
next and talk to him about monarchRoup and and everything going on over there.

(30:56):
And uh, Chef Richard has shownup. I don't think he thought
he was gonna beyond. Don Nessmithis here, all right, it's Don
Nessmith and and we'll try to shovein a thirty minute conversation in five minutes
with him. We'll just give himthe mic and let him do it.
I love giving him a hard time. But anyway, Jenna, if you're

(31:19):
ready, we'll go to commercial andthen we'll come back on the other side.
All right, let's go to commercial. Hey y'all, this is the

(32:22):
Tundrill Studio, presented by Sparks Toyota. We're the dealers always in and RQ
West Boats A Morrison Maarine of LickCity and Georgetown, where every day is
a boat show every day by theFreedom Boat Club where your boat is waiting,
and by Monarch ruping. And guesswho's in the house. Bert's in
the house, Ber Delicious us onthe deck as as my wife is coined

(32:45):
him. Ver Delicious is in thehouse. Bert, what's up? Buddy?
Man? We got a beautiful day, don't we We do? Man,
I love it being outside out here. Man, hey, I can't
believe you're not running the by theway, we want to mention best of
bluff to Oh my god, turnit around. Let me see, ladies
and gentlemen, Captain Caleb has broughthis charter back for a restroom break.

(33:05):
And how many inches six which istwenty six inch speckled trout. And I'm
just telling you that's how wide doyou think that thing? Is on this
This thing is unbelievable. Will yousend that to me so I can share
it. I'll put it on Facebook. That's ah wow a congrats. Yeah,

(33:29):
that is a trophy right there. That is awesome. And you just
heard him say that the customer choseto release that fish. That's awesome.
That's really good. That's really good. We're trying to do more and more
of do that to sustain the population. Well, the front lines of the
battle for that and conservation. Ihate well, I mean no, I

(33:49):
hate I love saying that. It'syou guys, it's every single one of
y'all. It's us. It's it'suh, I mean, you know,
we we we talk about wanting regulations, we talk about wanting this. He
changes. Have to practice what wepreach and if we we do it ourselves.
You know, Tony heard Russ yesterday. Can we keep it? Can
we keep it? Can we keepit? Like we're not going to keep

(34:10):
that fish, like we're going torelease it was a legal fish, but
we let it go. But yeah, dude, at the end of the
day, it's we police ourselves andnobody else has to, so we don't.
We don't really need regulations to makeus do stuff like that. We
just do it on our own.So that big female I bet over a
million eggs a year, she drives. Absolutely. Yeah. So dang dude,

(34:32):
Hey, we got monarch rubin on, we got bird here. We'll
talk to him. But I dowant to bring something up real quick with
the trout. I was explaining tosomebody yesterday. I said, and you
tell me if you agree, everyfull moon brings a brings a wave of
trout into spawn. I don't thinkevery trout spawns at every pull moon.

(34:53):
I think that every pull moon bringsa trout brings trout in this spawn it
does, and uh, you knowthat was why yesterday I thought, but
for sure I can catch one trout, but as luck would have it,
not a trout. But anyway, the man that always has luck on his
side, that is the one andonly Burt Williams here, Burke, we

(35:15):
uh Monarch group. And you guysare involved in so much throughout the Grand
Strand. And you I'm putting youat the head of that because I know
you are involved in all the publicrelations and everything else. But let's talk
about some things you've got coming up. Yeah. Yeah, first of all,
yesterday we did a big thing forthe Vietnam Veterans Day. I was
able to take one hundred Chick filA sandwiches to the VET Center and there

(35:37):
was a ton of people that werereally appreciative of that, and right it
was real emotional watching those guys andwhat they've been through and listen to them
talking. That was fantastic. SoI love doing that. Coming up,
we've gotten we are participating in theDragon Boat YEP, which is always a
fun event. If you haven't beento that, it's awesome at great family
event there. And at the sametime, I want there. We've got

(36:00):
two events that day, so I'llbe at the Heritage Festival in sock Steed
by the Swing Bridge. We runthe sponsors out there, and that's another
family friendly event that has you know, bouncy houses and fans and vendors and
everything, and we'll have a hugeten out there. And let's talk about
the dragon Boat real quick. Sodo do y'all have a team? Oh?
Yeah, okay, yes, it'sthe studs at Monarch pretty much Martin

(36:23):
Martin Pix's teams. Well I'm gonnasay this, but you talk about er,
I mean, you got some studsyeah, yeah, you got some
stud We got a good team.We finished I think fourth last year,
but we're they really get into itand it's it's a great event. Well,
you know, and with all thaty'all do giving back, there's got
to be business that coincides with it. We know that monarch rouping is at

(36:44):
the forefront of rooping, along degreeand strand yes, sir, let's talk
about that. How does somebody youknow we're coming up. We hate to
talk about it, but that seasonis right around the corner where the half
season right now, that's what Martinsays, its roofing season. And we're
staying busy. I mean, I'mpleased to say that our first quarter as
a record quarter for us in seventeenyears. So we're off to a great
start at the momentum, it's hugeright now and we're just busy every day.

(37:07):
But you know, the thing wepromote the most is our roof tune
up. As I told you before, we'll get up on your roof for
free, take pictures, take videos, send them down to you. You
know, let you know what wethink needs to be doing. And if
it's a minor fix, we'll justgo ahead and fix it for you for
free while we're up there, andthen you make a decision how to proceed
from there. But that's totally free. I'll have to just call up one

(37:30):
art can ask for it. Well, we're sitting here ATFC home of twelve
charter boats now we've decided, andlooking at Merle's Inlett watching twenty charter boats
drive by. I'll be honest withyou, the rouping industry here along the
Grand Strands seems a lot like thecharter business. Really. You see the
trucks going by every day anywhere you'reat, but you also see a lot

(37:52):
of them come and go. Monarchgrouping is here to stay. And why
what I mean, how are y'allable to do that? Well, I
mean it's just a quality that we'llprovide. I mean, from start to
finish, we're top notch. Imean we're trained. Everybody's trained in their
area. We have several different departmentsfrom inside sales to uh sysides that do
all the calls and talk to thepeople. But from the initial conversation you

(38:13):
get to your roof being finished isbeyond extraordinary. People brag on that all
the time that like, you dida great job. You kept us communicating
throughout when things are going to happen, they happen on time. I mean,
that's how you build a reputation.And that's what we've done and that's
that's why we succeed. And thatabsolutely even though like you fix things if

(38:34):
you see them out of the place, Yeah, I mean, we did
little things. And like I say, I mean, if we have the
roof you might need to do.Not need a roof right now, but
when you need a roof, you'regoing to call us because of what we
did for Yeah, for a littleyou know, cock glue to hold a
shingle down and get that all thetime to you, like yeah, And
I love where they go to eventsand stuff and all the here is say,
oh you did them a roof twoyears ago. Oh my god,
you did such a great job.I've never heard one bad comment from anybody

(38:55):
at all the events I've been at. It's just like, oh you did
my roof. Oh you did myneighbor's roofs, and you did my who
neighborhoods? Yeah, yep, exactly, work them out. It works great.
And in advertising and we appreciate youradvertising with us, sir. Let's
talk about fission. You got anyplans to do any pission here in the
string. I know we're gonna tryand take trip right, yes, yes,

(39:15):
yeah, yeah, we had toorganize that. But yeah, you
know, I really need a boat, but that's kind of hard to pull
in my little car that I got. I'd give you a truck. Yeah
we saw that car and that newgolf car. So but now I got
friends with boats, so thank goodness. Hopefully let me be leave rolling Mike
take me fishing with him and Taylor. But you know, I might fish

(39:36):
fishing tournament with them here or there, and then, like we've talked about,
I'm trying to organize a fishing tournamentfor monarchy. You're gonna work with
me on that. It's in thework of stages to be our first one.
So it'll be a learning experience, just like the golf tournament was.
But we'll try to raise money forveterans in that way too, to we
call it Shelter for Veterans. We'reable to do houses for replace roofs for
veterans from the golf tournament. We'vebeen able to do one a month so

(39:59):
far. We're gould do one ofthem on this year. Just what we
are. Yeah, that is awesome, dude. And again, probably the
people that get the least thanks andthe least appreciation are the veterans, all
right, And and how does somebodyhow does somebody nominate somebody for that?
What is the way to how dowe contact you if we've got that veteran

(40:20):
that we know? Yeah, youcan go online, go on line to
our website and just enter information inand then we'll come out and take a
look at you out of the house, see what looks like, talk to
them, you know, and we'lljust kind of assess it from there.
That's awesome. That is aw Imean, you call me and I'll call
them, you know, if youwant to do that. Yeah, all
right. So, uh, golfballs. This is the funniest thing.
We were talking about this. SoBert got Martin to do some personalized golf

(40:42):
balls with Bert's beautiful base on it. And these things have shown up.
What's the furthest so far that somebodyhas reported they've found your golf balls?
I want to think maybe Arizona.Maybe, Wow, we got one.
I mean I had wanted true blue. I mean I've had a round here
too, but yeah, yeah,it's pretty cool craziness. So if you
find one of Burt's golf balls andyou call and report it, you get

(41:05):
a sleep. You get a sleepof brand new proby one X's. I
got a whole new stock in soI have to leave of them now at
all. Well it's fun, man, it's fun to promote that way.
I want to bring up something thatwe were talking about all beer earlier.
But the kingfisher In don't explain thatto me. So what happens over anybody
out there doesn't know kingfisher In?Growing up? I mean Bert and I

(41:25):
grew up hanging out. You livedthere, but hanging out there, and
I mean it's gone. It literallyis. So as of yesterday, they
just they were done, structurally, unsown, evacuated everybody and relocating them.
Wide notes on every every door sayingwe had to leave on a holiday weekend

(41:49):
too. I know, Wow,they're lucky they can find these people places
to stay. Yeah, that iscrazy. Did you know why didn't we
do the seven Why didn't we dothe five k run for the inlet this
morning? And we should have alldone that? Yeah? Hey, yeah
we could all we could all havepiled in the back of my Toyota Tundra,
the radio show, the back ofthe truck driving the five can.

(42:13):
Yeah, that would have been awesome. Say, we could have done it
as a relay raising. I'll takethe first Yeah down, can have the
thickest thirty yards. Hey, andwe could have let Monarch sponsor the bartender.
We could have the bar in theback of the truck. Oh,
it would have been awesome. Thatcould have for everybody. That would have

(42:35):
been awesome. Man, Oh mygoodness. Hey, uh, what's your
all right? So we know yourbiggest pounder was what five five and a
half pounds and that was in thetournament fishing tournament yep, yeah, twenty
six twenty five minutes timeh finches allright. Next to that was your red
fish from North Carolina one of thosebiggest tons of those. Yeah, my
biggest fish was a selfish I calledout of hatters. That was a big
one. He's probably about maybe seveneight feet, but it was that was

(42:57):
fun because he jumped there like tentimes. Oh yeah, there's some big
ones up there. That was fun. We call it five that day,
but man, yeah, it wasfunny. And you have to run as
far out up there either. No, that's that's awesome up there. I'll
tell you what that That fishery upthere is incredible, beautiful. You know,
you can get turned around real quickup there and not realize where you're
at because you're close to shore. You are, and that's a year round

(43:19):
fishery. Yeah, and King Michaerel. That's we got ours? Yeah they
I mean, yo, what wasyours? Forty? What was it wasn't?
Yeah, I have to look backand see what they was up there?
It was. Yeah, I'm onthe spot right now, so I
can't remember the guy's bowy fished offof it. He won the Big Rock
one time. That's that's that's amillion, No, multi million. The

(43:45):
boat was a multi million dollarbate.I think it was huge. Who was
it? Do you remember it?Friend? It was a red boot.
I can't remember. Fever something fevermaybe higher's fever. But yeah, like
you had three of them up there. What's the name of the fever fleet.
Uh, there's a couple of themup there there, ghetting, one
of them on the tuna. That'sfriends friends, Yeah, fishing Frenzy is

(44:07):
the one, the red one that'sin there. Yeah, this boat was
red. But yeah, that's right, that's fun. But yeah, that's
right. I like Philly's bullreds tothat man. All right, well listen,
Burt, thanks for having me brother, No, man, it's great
to have you. Listen. Iwant to challenge somebody. Listen, we
got the rod right here, readyto go, Burt. Let them get
you set up with a mud minuteand we've got thirty minutes, twenty five

(44:28):
minutes leapt in the show. Okay, I want you to go catch a
plounder off the dock, and trustme, Chris, tell him you can
catch a plounder off his dock.Absolutely, So we're gonna get you set
up with bait while we go tobreak. I'm gonna get Michael Holmes on
the line here from Sparks, Toyotato talk about his charity group. And
we're gonna get Chef Richard over tosit down with us as well. We're
gonna have a great time here. But uh, we're having fun here in

(44:49):
my f C sixty quarter that's whereour fish was. Wow, it was
over sixty How did we How didyou forget? I didn't want to give
you the wrong forget. I didn'twant to give the mark I got put
on a spot. All right,Jenna, you're ready to take us break?
Last break? This is it?Sure? All right, let's go
to break. I gotta get Michaelon the line, so we'll do that.
Run a break real quick. Comeback on the other side and we'll

(45:12):
have Michael on. If not ChefRidge is gonna join us, don Nesmith
is gonna join us. So wegot plenty to go in this last twenty
five minutes, So don't go anywhere. If this is the Southern Englos Radio
Show and it has been six yearsthat we've been right here on Gator one
oh seven point nine. Michelo Ultraand Myrtle Beach Wholesaler Southern Crown Partners Incorporated
know our consumers enjoy relaxing days onthe water with Mick Ultra's chris and refreshing

(45:37):

and by US Boats a Marrison Marineof Lake City and Georgetown. Every day
it is a boat show every dayby the Freedom Boat Club where your boat

(46:21):
is waiting. Hey, and I'lltell you what you're speaking of. Sparks
Toyota. We have mentioned that MichaelHolmes was gonna join us, and he
has joined us now via the showroomat Sparks Toyota. And uh, Michael,
good morning, my friend, Goodmorning, how are you man?
We're doing great, buddy. Itis so good to have you on and
to talk about what you've got goingon and everything that, uh, you

(46:45):
know, first and foremost, let'stalk about Luca, talk about our our
our big man, and and telleverybody exactly the situation that you was thrown
at. You guys, what threeyears ago? Now? Am I right?
Is it three? A little overtwo? Two? Okay, let's
let's talk about that a little bitmore. Yeah, it's been uh,

(47:07):
obviously it's a challenge whenever one ofyour children become ill as a parent,
it's extremely difficult because you obviously don'thave any control over trying to make them
better or to help them anyway. So he was diagnosed late January of twenty

(47:27):
two with leukemia the most one ofthe most common being the all type B
and it's it's it's been a longroad. It's definitely the one of the
longest and most difficult marathons you canbe on as a parent. But he's
been treated down at m USC,which they are amazing. That New Children's

(47:50):
Hospital is amazing, as you know, Sean Jenkins Hospital is hospital. It's
they really have the best staff instate. They're they're just awesome. Well
you, hey, you've also hadthe you you've had. You and your
wife and and Luke have had theprivilege of meeting some of our therapy dogs
that that I have the pleasure ofhelping fund. And that was actually before

(48:15):
we ever met you, YEP,in your organization. We were at a
couple of different appointments and we gotto meet about three, I think two
or three different therapy dogs that you'vebeen you've helped with, YEP. I'm
pretty sure it makes a huge differenceto a child, you know, to
see something that because kids obviously arefamiliar with animals, they may have an

(48:38):
animal at home, a dog,and when they see an animal at a
place that realistically is totally different. You know, a hospital is not a
normal place for a child. Itreally it comforts them and it really makes
a big impact and really brings aton of joy that you can you can
see makes a huge difference. Yep. And and you know you've started.

(49:01):
Let's see what was so we startedthe golf tournament. Now this will be
year three. This will be ourthird, third annual golf tournament. This
is our first year as a fullfoundation. We have our board that we've
put together, you know, that'sit's it's something that we really want to
pay it forward with all of thehelp in the community. And it really

(49:24):
it takes a village to get throughsomething like this. Yes, and you,
you and I have pad back withso many parents and so many families
and just just to be able tohelp. You and I have had several
conversations about this since diagnosis and andeverything else, and I think, you
know, first off, let's let'spromote the golf tournament first, because I

(49:45):
really want to promote your your yourgroup and and and your new organization,
because I think you know where you'regoing with this is absolutely perfect. But
let's let's promote the golf tournament now, because I know it's going to feel
like it's this summer. It's Julytwenty eighth at World Tour. This is
our first year playing at World Tour. We're super excited and we've had a

(50:08):
lot of great opportunities making great connections. And Matt Daily is one of the
directors of that group, of theFounder's group, and he and I have
had many conversations and it really hitshome because his family was affected by cancer.
So it really it's a it's it'ssomething that you know as a parent,

(50:31):
when you know you're going through things. It's considered a rare thing for
parents to to ever have to dealwith, but it's becoming more and more
common in the past decade than Ithink most people realize. Yep, no
doubt about it. And you knowyou And again I think at most recent
conversation a couple of weeks ago,you when I spoke while I was sitting

(50:53):
into parking lot at Palmata State Armoryabout this event and about the reason you
started this organization, but the stressthat it puts on the family, it's
horrible. It does, I mean, and I mean, and it's tough
because you do meet a lot offamilies and you see even single parents dealing

(51:14):
with this, which I can't evenimagine not having a partner through this.
You know, the just we asas parents and as families, it's it's
it's difficult. And then when youadd the stress of something like this,
let alone the anxiety that you have, but then the financial side of the

(51:36):
stress of medical bills. You know, they I was reading there was a
actually my wife had mentioned this, and you know, the normal statistic in
the United States is that we haveabout a fifty percent shot of keeping our
families together because it's divorce rate, but then it spikes up to over eighty
percent when you have something like thishappened. It just it obviously is just

(52:00):
trumental to uh, you know, the stress relationship. Yeah, it'll it'll
definitely and that test your marriage.And that's you know, there's there's a
lot of things that we don't talkabout because it's not just with the parents.
It's the you know, your siblings, children are affected siblings because it's
I mean, they don't understand. It could be they could be younger or

(52:21):
older, and they're still you know, they have a really hard time understanding
what's going on. And it's alwayshard to have a conversation with another child
and your family and keeping them updatingwhat's going on, because you know,
you're you're trying to deal with itwith you and your partner, much less
the kid just going through it.I mean, a hospital is a it's
a scary place, and it isyou know, I hate them. It's

(52:49):
are the ones that work there.I don't know if there's many people that
really enjoy being in the hospital.I don't like the dentist, let alone
a hospital with you that and Chris'swife works for one of the bigger hospitals.
Yes, yes, but man,it's just you know, I thought
when you and I spoke, Ithought you were just so spot on with
with with all your plans with thisorganization, and and you know, we're

(53:13):
in our this is our first year, so you know, it's a building
year. We're raising money. We'vehad one fundraiser already. We're gonna have
a blood drive here at Sparks Toyota. I confirmed it already it's gonna be
the tenth. We also have acelebration coming up with Luca's end of treatment
because he'll be it's I mean,it's been the longest two and a half

(53:37):
years of our lives, but everythingis worked out. It's been successful.
He's in remission, but his endof treatment will be in May. We'll
have the blood drive on May tenthhere at Sparks Toyota, So we ask
everyone to come out and donate ifthe proceeds are going to go to the

(53:57):
foundation as part of our fund raisingefforts, and it just you know,
there's lots of different things we've talkedabout, you know, what we want
to do with the organization. Youknow, we want to team up with
other organizations like yourselves, because honestly, the first couple of years are going
to be difficult for us to getas hands on with because you get so

(54:22):
invested not only in your own family, but all the other families that are
affected. You know, there isa little PTSD you know as a parent,
because it's a very emotional thing. But you know, we want to
be able to help other families. You know, we're not trying to reinvent
the wheel by any means we liketo help with maybe you know the idea

(54:43):
because there's a lot of great organizationsthat do help out financially. We want
to be able to help families getthrough those processes and understand who's out there
who can help, and we liketo you know, long term. You
know, we put goals very highup there. We like to do something
in the grand strand because I don'tthink most people realize when you have a

(55:07):
child that is going through this likeone, you can't get a transfusion locally.
I can't, unfortunately, go tothe local hospitals no matter which one
it is and get a transfusion forLuca. It has to go through a
certain process that blood has to gothrough a process for anyone who's going through

(55:28):
cancer treatment. So we have totake that two hour drive so you know,
if we can maybe down the roadin a few years. It's We've
made a ton of great connections. One of our sponsors that we're working with
is more on the mental health side. That's Coastal Carolina Behavioral Health. You

(55:50):
know, I've been able to helpand one of the owners here at Sparks
Toyota and we connected and talked moreabout just different ideas is and you know,
also there's been so much support locallyfrom other businesses like Leverage Roofing.
They're a huge sponsor of ours, obviously, Sparks Toyota. Part of our

(56:15):
golf tournament is what we're talking aboutis putting a vehicle on one of the
one of the par three holes tosee if you can get a hole in
one. Oh yeah vehicle. Sowe're still working out the details of what
the vehicle will be, but it'llbe a new Toyota twenty four. As
you were talking, really get somereal great ideas together. We've been pushing

(56:37):
around a couple of different ideas andfor the golf tournament, but going back
to the foundation, just we wantto be able to help locally, start
local We'd like to obviously help familiesin the Grand strand you know, families
in South Carolina. Just being ableto see how we can help the local

(56:57):
community just because honestly, there arethere are many children locally that are even
affected by it, that's right, and a lot of people don't realize that,
Like I mean, it's amazing,Like I don't want to give names
out because but right now you andI spoke about this one family member.
Yeah, and I'm following her wholestory and watching what she's going through down
at m USC right now. AndI've tried to work to get our dogs

(57:22):
in there, but unfortunately, rightnow she's so ill that you know.
Yeah, but and we've been incrediblyblessed with everything we've been through, and
it's it's heartbreaking to see the difficultthings everyone else. I mean, I
can't imagine, you know, weI can't imagine. We know, it's

(57:42):
just impossible to think about what youwent through, and you know, you're
open a body. You said you'regoing that pretty much everybody in your family's
going through therapy, and I meanit's a very you know, as a
dad, you kind of compartmentalize alot of the things, a lot of
the stresses and because you just youknow, you have to push through.

(58:05):
I mean, this week we weregoing away to Florida for a cancer retreat
and it is twelve families and it'san organization that has it's in Florida.
It'll be twelve families that are thathave children that are going through the process,
just like Luca, and you know, it'll give an opportunity Luca be

(58:29):
around other kids that understand. It'sthe same thing with you know, with
our oldest, she'll have an opportunityto be around kids her age and obviously
parents for us, you know thatwe can It'll be interesting to see how
and honestly, I think it'll bevery inspiring to see how we can help

(58:51):
as well. Absolutely well, talkingabout it is. Yeah, there's just
awesome because so many people whole stufflike that in and they, like you
said, they can part my millenializeeverything and they just don't talk about a
lot of stuff. But being aroundother people who's dealing with the same situation
and being able to talk to them, that's got to be so much relief

(59:15):
just on you mentally. Oh yeah, just can't. I can't even imagine
it's and that's that's like at thevery beginning, you know, you're like
I was, all of us,you know, my wife and our children
were extremely thankful for everyone that firstyou know, three to six months when
he was diagnosed, just everyone youknow, reaching out wanting to help.

(59:38):
But the most difficult thing is whenwe were in that situation, we had
no idea what we needed, Wehad no idea how we're going to get
through it, and that's part ofour core foundation is the fact that we've
been through it. You know,we can kind of help help we when
we go to a family and say, you know, what do you need,

(01:00:01):
we kind of have an idea now, you know, obviously we have
an inside track and an inside ofbeing able to say, hey, you
don't even realize this is what you'regonna look at the next few months.
That's right, this is how youknow. This is just you know,
let us guide you through at leasta time where you have no idea what's

(01:00:22):
up from down? Amen, Hey, if somebody wants to get in touch
with you, wants to get involvedwith the group, and and and then
I do want to talk from toyotas. But if somebody wants to get in
touch with you, what's the bestway for them to find out more information
on your organization? So we dohave a website Strongman Luca James dot com.

(01:00:44):
We're in the process of developing thatwebsite, so please have patience with
us. But when we do.My wife and Sherry, my wife's aunt,
have been they are really the forefrontof the foundation and their emails are
Sherry and s H. A.R. I at strong Man Luca James

(01:01:07):
and then my wife Kate is ka t e at Strongman Luca James dot
com. That's probably the easiest wayto get in contact with the foundation.
We will have up our sign upsheets as well, and we do have
on Facebook. We're also developing apage for the foundation. We have a

(01:01:30):
private group that we gave updates forLuca. But then you can always find
myself or my wife or you knowthe strong man dot com strong Man Luca
James dot com. And now I'mgonna get the uh, I'm very you
can find me here Sparks. That'sright, that's what we're gonna send them

(01:01:52):
over for the show. This ismy tenth year August Wow, so we're
we're well, thank you brother, and listen. Ten years at the same
dealership. That's pretty special in thein the world of all you know that
it's a difficult industry. Obviously goingthrough COVID made it difficult when we didn't
have cars yep, or we hada very short supply of them yep.

(01:02:14):
Uh. And now here you know, since it was I think summer of
twenty twenty where everything really got tightenedup. Now we have a full inventory,
and we have a lot of greatmanufacturer programs incentifications and uh it really
we're getting back to what we usedto consider normal, right, and we

(01:02:36):
have a lot of great new products. I'm sure you've heard that we want
to hear about the Tacoma real quick, but we gotta hey, we got
to make it real quick. Butwe want to hear about the new Tacoma.
Is it as bad as they're saying, But it's all new redesign and
it's uh, it's a phenomenal vehicle. It's it's almost people call it the
Mini Tundra because that was just redesignedin twenty two, so it's super exciting.

(01:02:58):
And the new camera the summer herein me. Oh that's awesome.
Well listen, man, we've gotto get out of here. Michael,
thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it. Man and Lucer
continues in our prayers. Oh absolutely, well, listen, all right,
fish heads, we got to getout of here. It's been a great
time. I want to thank Bertfor showing up. Wanna thank Don who's
gonna be Actually, if you,if you continue to listen, we're gonna

(01:03:20):
get Chef Richard and Don on you'llgo to our podcast platform. You can
catch the rest of the show inentirety over on any of the podcast platforms.
But we got to get out ofhere. So on behalf of Captain
Chris and Carolina Hook and Fly WhatI got it right on, behalf of
Tony the bast Master Card on behalfof Super Gena in the studio keeping things
straight. I'm captain Ee. Everyonehave a wonderful, happy Eastern and we

(01:03:45):
will catch you guys next week onthe Southern Anglers Radio show here on Gator
one of seven point nine. Thisis gonna be a new segment called after
the show. We got a littlebonus segment this week. Here. We've
got Chef Richard and don This Smith, who we have told you had been
sitting here the entire show. We'regonna sit and talk to them for real
quick and add a little segment here. Shep and was meeting me to talk

(01:04:09):
a little bit about some Facebook thingsand everything else. We want to talk
about that because I think SHEP isgoing to be offering We're gonna we're really
pushing to offer some private parties andeverything else. And we'll talk about that
a little bit more and let's talkabout Don's kayak group, which is continuing
to grow every week. And HappySaturday you guys, thanks for coming out
or hanging out after after the show. I want to give Captain Chris Reagan

(01:04:32):
a big shout out, thank youso much for taking the day off and
making sure we had a full staffhere for the show. But real quick,
Don talk about your kayak group.Let's go ahead and get everybody out
there so they can find out andget involved. Kanyak fishing has grown.
Listen, I know as much asyou begged me to go, and I
keep refusing to go. Just becauseI don't go doesn't mean that it hadn't

(01:04:57):
grown. And honestly, if youfelt my shoulders and and the pain that
I deal with in my shoulders, and I do realize that you can't pedal
them, or better yet, youjust press a button and say go on
his Yes, that's right, andI'll put you in mind. I will
get in my spare kayak and I'llput you in the motorized kak because I
feel your pain. I can't paddleand I can't pedal. I can but

(01:05:18):
for a very short distance on eitherone, and then my body is spent.
Your knees are like mine. IfI go out and had the actual
pedal a whole eight hour event,I would not physically walk for three days
after the fact. That's just theway it is. Man. My body
is beat, so yes, Iuse it. I want to get something
out of the way real quick. To hell with those kayak groups that want

(01:05:41):
to shun anybody with a motor onit. What difference does it make?
For real? It's an advantage.Oh yeah, I fished two tournaments with
a motor didn't even catch a fish. It's an advantage. What is the
difference. It's a power trip.Tell me, huh, it's a power
trip. It's just it's pure thatthey're going through right now with the live

(01:06:02):
scope versus old school. It's justit's just controversy. It's just drama.
But the point that Don keeps bringingup to people, you want to enjoy
fishing. It's made for everybody fromevery age from eight to eighty. Crippled
mind crazy, It's just that way. And there comes a point in people's

(01:06:26):
lives when they're not able to doit the way they used to exactly.
And I was a purist. Ionly paddled. I swore by only paddling
when you're physically not ablemore, acontrol of motor on the back of your
boat just gives you the opportunity togo out and continue to enjoy doing what

(01:06:47):
you've done your whole life. That'sexactly now period. It's not an advantage.
The only place that's an advantage isright there what we're looking at when
I got to fight the tide. That's the only advantage. Tied in the
wind. That's it. Yep.I see where people come from. I
see both sides of it, soI'll play devil's advocate. I don't care.
But it's you're gonna ban a trollermotor, but you're not gonna ban

(01:07:14):
a pedal power who's faster than me, or a frigging live scope to where
you can actually watch a live feedof the fish swimming around your boat.
Makes no sense to me. Andto say you're just just to outright say
you're not allowed because you have ahandicap is ludicrous. I'm sorry. I

(01:07:35):
don't agree with it at all.Yep, I get you, and I'm
on. I don't want to putit thin I I want to say thin
ice. It's it's a slippery slopefor me, I don't want I'm not
out bad mouthing people that don't wantmotors in their clubs. It's your club
and you can have what you want. Like the Queen City group, they're
purists. It's paddle only. It'snot even pedal power, it's paddle only.

(01:07:58):
Anything in North Carolina on them.Queen City lakes your paddling straight out
and and I can appreciate that thatthat is wonderful, but it doesn't make
it fair for the guy that can'tpaddle. That's my thing. It doesn't
make it fair for the guy thatcan't paddle. He can't enter the tournament.
He's not allowed. And I lovethe fact that a lot of people
have this preconception that kayak is acheap way to fish. You know how

(01:08:24):
much some of these kayaks are?Yeah, very expensive? Ye for real?
Yeah, absolutely, you're in.I want to ask you a question
about the uh, the paddling,Yeah yeah? Is that is that just
your call not to use that becauseyou feel like you're not in as good
as shape anymore? No for thepedals, Yes, I have I have

(01:08:45):
a tumor that's encompassed two discs onmy spote so that so if I go
out and pedal for six hours,if I go out and pedal for an
hour and a half, it flamesthat up. And I honestly, I'm
not walking for three days, andI've got other things in my life that
I have to do to make peoplehappy. I can't say, hey,
I can't come to your house andfix this for three days because I went
out and pedaled to kayak for fourhours. But if I can't do that,
if somebody that that doesn't have thatkind of situation, Pedal kayaks,

(01:09:10):
for the way, if bang forthe buck to start out, go that
Initially your kayak's gonna cost you anextra thousand, because that's what a pedal
drive system costs across the board forany brand. They are faster than a
motorized kayak straight out. If you'vegot the leg strength, you can outrun
me. There any need for amotor if the person is in good shit,
no none at all. You cantake a pedal kayak and go anywhere

(01:09:32):
that I go. Heck, we'veseen them me and you've seen them out
a mile. And I know guyswho do it the old school traditional paddle,
and that's like I said, I'ma purist, and I would love
to steal paddle. But between thestuff growing in my chest and the thing
growing on my back, it's madeit where I can only huse a motor.
I really can. You're talking toa dude who's had four shoulders service.

(01:09:55):
I get it. How long doyou think I could last on a
kayak, oh paddle pad? Onean hour at best. Yeah, especially
out here with this wind in thecurrent, you wouldn't make it an hour,
and you would be wor out andI'd have to hook a rope to
you and tell you in exactly that'sthe way it would be. That's just
exactly Sheppard. You're thinking about akayak over there. I'm always thinking,
I just got to get I'm tellingyou, if all I've got where you

(01:10:16):
up into yard, you're more thanwelcome to take one and use at any
time to see. If that's whatyou want to venture into, You're more
than welcome to take one and goatappreciate anytime you want. I would love
to put anybody in it. Ifished these waters from a john boat to
a big boat, and then Igot in kayaks in the very early nineties,
and that was in the boats, because I can get where I want
to get in a kayak without theexpense of a boat, without insurance on

(01:10:40):
a boat, without all the aggravationof trying to launch a boat. I
can launch yack at Stanley Drive orshell Landing, or even over at the
abandoned strip there by Marlon Quay,if I can sneak it in and find
a parking spot for the truck. But catching a fish sitting six inches off
the water is a total different thing. And it isn't EFFI whether it's in
a john boat, a big bucket, don't just even a three pound blue

(01:11:01):
sitting in the seat of a kayakman. It's it's just a total different
feeling. Once you get that rush, it's hard to go back. Now,
English, you were saying on theon the Southern Angliers radio show earlier
today that you would be fishing inthe Wahoo tournament. Yep, will that
be with your boat? Uh no, no, no, no. We
fish. My partner, Lucas Williams, has a thirty two yellow pin and

(01:11:27):
we fish it nice. So unfortunately, my fuel tank is just not comfortable.
I'm not comfortable with the eighty gallons. I think I could do it,
Chris, don't you I think Icould make it. I think I
would probably need to bring a tengallon bladder or something. It's not gonna
be doing a whole lot of highspeed rolling. No, Now, that's

(01:11:48):
the thing. I mean. It'sthe style of boat. It's the amount
of fuel you can exact get onyou. I'm not worried about the like
I'm gonna pick and choose my days. Yeah, I'm getting I'm too old.
I'm gonna pick and choose my daythe best I can. Sometimes you
just got to go unfortunately, butI am gonna pick and choose my days.
But one thing I wanted to mentionearlier on the show was a congratulations

(01:12:09):
to Chris. I'll tell you what, Folks, if you're on Facebook and
Qualified Captains new ad comes up,you got to check them out. It's
awesome that ad turned out great onQualified Captains. Go google them. They
do apparel, they have apparel andsuch. But the new commercial that they've
got is all our guys right here. It's all m i FC guys,

(01:12:30):
and it is freaking top notch.I know Drew actually created that. Correct?
Did Drew create it or did hejust shoot the video. Okay,
all right, Well anyway, itis top quality, top notch, but
really awesome to see you guys onthere. Shep Richard came down to join
me to talk about some stuff. But Shep, let's talk about your private

(01:12:55):
shepes stars, let's talk about ourWhat are you offering? So you were
on, I mean, you justdid a great one with Ned and Brandy
Campbell in that crowd, but you'recoming over and doing a You'll come cook
for you or b What you liketo do is educate them exactly. It's
more of an event than like say, a dinner party. What I've done

(01:13:17):
over the last couple of years isI've sort of honed it down to a
cooking demonstration where there's typically four courses. Right, nobody goes away hungry,
right right. I do everything rightin front of them. It's all you
know, you can engage with me. And also I tell the stories of
what it was like to work youknow, for Hollywood's a list for twenty

(01:13:41):
five years, and even some ofthe dishes are connected to the celebrities that
I worked for. I was justI did one in Phoenix last week and
I was doing an arabiata sauswitch. And that's another thing I want you to
make sure we go back to.I want you to talk about all the
groups that you're cooking for. Now, keep going, but you're cooking for
some big groups, traveling around andcooking with wounded warriors, cooking other Yeah,

(01:14:03):
I mean, except for the veterantype things. I'm pretty much done
with travel. Okay, I'm justtired of it. But anyways, cutting
into yours. By the way, yeah, exactly, don't get me started.
My wife talked, Oh, I'msure, I'm sure. Yeah.
Anyway, just a quick example.I was doing this arabiata, which is

(01:14:23):
a roasted garlic tomato sauce a littlebit spicy, and I was telling the
story about how I learned how todo that when I was working for Tom
Cruise. One time he and Nicolecame into the kitchen. I was just
getting ready to serve dinner, andthey said, we hope we don't offend
you, but would you mind we'rereally into we really have a hankering for
Italian food tonight, you know. And I said, no, I'm thinking

(01:14:45):
to myself, I got out ofwork early. What do I care?
Right, And they said, here'sthe other thing. Would you mind picking
it up for us? And I'mlike, yeah, that's that's no problem.
So I got very very high inrestaurant in Brentwood and I walk in
and it's an open kitchen. Sothe chefs are all right, n I'm
wearing my chef whites, and theylook over. I'm waiting for the order

(01:15:09):
and they look over at me andthey said, what's what's wrong, chef?
You can't you can't cook like this? And I said, noah,
it's just my people like junk foodevery once in a while, throwing things
at me. Anyway, So Iget it back to the house and I
like to say it didn't it didn't, you know, affect my ego.
But it did a little bit.So I'm tasting the sauce. I taste
the sauce. It's this orabiata sauce, and I go, I can do

(01:15:30):
that. It's a piece of cake, right. So the next week I
made an rabiata sauce for Nicole forher lunch. She turns around and she
says, did you get this fromthat? From that restaurant? So now
I did that. The people inwho are at the cooking demonstrations, they
go crazy for stories like that, especially knowing that that's what I'm preparing as

(01:15:54):
one of the courses for them. It's cool for them. So people coming
at first, like I said, before people come over there, nobody goes
away hungry, and they come away, you know, knowing a little bit
about what it's like, you know, behind the scenes. Plus every person
or a couple gets a personally autographedcookbook, and the cookbook has got some

(01:16:15):
awesome stuff, and I supply allthe food as well, and uh an
assistant who helps clean up, sonobody has to worry about anything. Who's
your assistant? Friend of mine?I was wondering if it might be hoty,
No, I want my marriage tocontinue. Yeah, exactly. Well,
so you're so you and I Istarted reaching out to you last week

(01:16:40):
or week before. I said, all right, chef, you got to
get your scene. You gotta getyour Facebook social media scene picked up because
you're missing out. And I wassending you my friend Tiger Thompson's page and
hissed uff and I'm like, andthe in the Green Goat and Ninja or
whatever he is, And so wegot to get your your your page picked
up. And I think that's whatwe're here for we're working on. Yeah,

(01:17:00):
I've had a business page. Itcan be overwhelming. I mean that
social media stuff could be overwhelming.I'm glad he's still here. I was
hoping Jason was going to be herebecause we talked about that, to have
Jason help you. Jason, unfortunatelyjust sent me a picture of emergency room.
Oh he is at the doctor.Yeah, he's at emergency care or
one of those. Right, he'sgot either bronchitis or strip boat or something

(01:17:23):
that's not good. No, butyeah, but you know, maybe we'll
get maybe Chris can help us becauseI think, or just give me the
name of the hospital and bring mycomputer over to take your computer over.
Yeah, no, I wouldn't goright now. You may walk out sick,
you go in help you and leavesick. Yeah, that could happen.
But but man, it's so hardto figure out because what you've done
is created you. You've tried totake your your all your many friends and

(01:17:47):
move them over to your business page. And then also with that business page,
you want to be able to Ithink this is where you're going.
You wanted to be able to followother pages pages, interact with other businesses,
right, And here's the thing, and this may sound so juvenile,
but on on on your personal Facebookpage, you know you've got, you

(01:18:10):
know, your list of people onthe right that will contact you or whatever,
and there's this slew of posts fromfrom people yep, right, and
you're not seeing it on your noton the not on the professional page because
you won't until you personally follow themor they follow you. Correct, Chris,
And that's how it works on thebusiness page. Yeah, but if

(01:18:30):
I don't see anybody, how doI know to follow? You've got to
get into the search mode and startgoing through and I'll and we'll show you
how all that. I'll show youbecause I had the same problem. And
Tony, we have a bass ourThursday, Big bass battle, and so
I think we may have three businessesif we follow or or or they follow
us or something. And one ofthem is Walters at the ri at the

(01:18:54):
walka watch you Marina. And Tonywas trying to figure out why he was
seeing all these Walters posts, andI was like, because we follow them
or they follow us one of thetwo. As it turned out, they
follow us, but he couldn't figurethat out. But that's how it is.
So we'll get in there and andand and show you, but we'll
get What you have to do isswitch yourself over to that business page and

(01:19:15):
then you get back into the thenyou go back into the world of Facebook,
and then you go through and findyour businesses. Then you want to
follow, am I am? Icorrect, Chris? Yeah, you share
it to all your friends, yep, which which I believed I had done
that. It's like I tried toadd y'all's big bassroom to the kayak page

(01:19:40):
and you get it out there andI can't and I want to share this.
It's because we got to accept itbecause maybe Tony hadn't seen it,
or one of us hadn't seen it. But if you send us in,
I don't know how. I don'tknow how to add it either. I
was trying to add it. Sowe're gonna get a lot accomplished here in
just a minute. Perfect, Allright, Well listen, hey, after
the show a little sec in here. It was a great segment sitting with
Don Shep Richard and again Captain Chris. Thanks for taking the day off.

(01:20:05):

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
