Great storage facility right here, completelysafe unless you get these uh this
rip wrap in the door over herethere. But we are hanging out here

(02:35):
and it's actually not cold this morningfeels good in here. Doesn't it going
well for some of them? Pullup mike and front. But we got
one of these one of these poolshas got shorts on in here with me.
You can't get the Conway out ofno, well, you can't do
it well that that would be theone and only Captain river Rat. Matt
Barnador has made his way over fromConway to hang out with us, and

(03:00):
I would expect that mister green Jeanswas coming in. I can't believe he
blew me up last night. Now, but that man's been busy. I'll
tell you what he's doing. He'sgot a new class of officers that he's
testing and training in Columbia. Sohe has been on the road, burning
the road up. But uh,hopefully he'll come in and join us.
But we do have mister sweet teacharters here, Fred Rook root root root

(03:24):
Fred. We got Fred. Fred'shere and uh Fred, uh, we're
gonna have some good things to talkabout. Today. Fred went to a
d n R meeting. I guessyou would call it a hearing or what
I mean meet meeting with some ofour local dn R officers with Matt Perkinson

(03:44):
from dn R. Uh biologists fromdn R who specializes in plounder correct.
Yeah, he's a bologist and beenthere a long time. Matt's a great
guy. Matt is a great guy. I mean he's knowledgeable and and friendly.
Got a great person now, youknow, he's an easy guy to
get along with. Then got someinformation will pass on and we're going to

(04:05):
talk about that. And Tony andI this week joined the Grand Strands Saltwater
Anglers Association, and I want togive a big shout out to them.
It was a great meeting Thursday night. Good food, food was really good,
really good crowd. And to watchthem give back, which they always
do, you know, I thinkthey gave Salt one thousand dollars, and

(04:25):
they gave a thousand dollars to CoastalCarolina per scholarship out there as well,
and they continue to give back. And the planning to tournament that they have
in April coming up is largely inpart to how they raise all that money,
because they do have a lot oftournament, a lot of people in

(04:46):
that tournament and we're going to havea great time and looking forward to that.
And again, I got to gofishing yesterday. I went fishing with
the one and only cheap Joe Hill, who was busy today. He's busy
protecting the down. He's busy protectingthe down. But he uh took a

(05:06):
little break yesterday and we went outand hit the near shore reefs for sheep
said and black drum, and weencountered a lot of I'll tell you if
you're if you're contemplating with the weatherthis weekend about heading out to try and
go find some reef. Convicts, don't go to Georgetown right now. How

(05:27):
was the river level, because it'sgot to be high, and I'm saying
that because the current was every bitof four to five where we were running
straight through it it's just running oneway right now. I crossed speed the
other day it was it wasn't flooded, it was up, it was rolling,
muddy rolling. It's conway seems tobe pretty good, dude, So

(05:50):
you're down, well, that's good. It was we so it's got to
be coming down to PD. Yeah, I guess it. A water's running
pretty good. We never lost fallingcurrent yesterday it was it was headed south
the whole time, and we wentall the way down and fished. We
rowed down and actually looked at thebridges today working on a Georgetown which day

(06:12):
are doing a lot of work.Oh, I'm telling you is if you're
scared of heights, do not walkacross that bridge. They im taking the
concrete out now. It is crossbeams on the northbound lane. All it
is is cross beams and those workersare up there just hopping right along them.
It doesn't give me a lot ofconfidence to see a lot of equipment
around that bridge when I'm driving acrossthere, no me either. I'm scared

(06:34):
to death. You'd have even lessconfidence. As you've been in the boat
with me and Andrew. When werode by in half the guys was standing
on the back of the board's fishinginstead of work. Oh that's great,
that's great. That's a good spottoo, especially this time of the year.
One thing you mentioned might going offshoreright now, you guys going off
shore sea fok so be oh yeah, you aware that, even though it's

(06:58):
pretty easy, can be and slickand nice and warm, and next thing,
you know, you won't be ableto see the bottle of boats.
Be aware and roll in the otherday about mid date, it rolled in
and it just I was like,I hope there's some people that can read
a compass or I told them.I thought. I thought yesterday we might
get to see it. With theway that temperature was and it was a

(07:20):
little cool nip in the air,I thought we might get to see some
of that. And I mean itcan get you. I mean you can
have an all out white out, like in the middle of the day.
You don't expect it roll up onyou. And at that point, please
people don't run wide open, pleasebecause I'm going. I'm going at noon

(07:40):
and it can get me. Yeahyou're going at noon today, yeah,
And I mean it can get me. This southternoon, you know, in
the bay, so you're pitshing thetide. You're trying to get that tied
You got it? Yep, itmade one down there yesterday, it really
Yeah, a good load tied downhere yesterday. I will tell you be
careful if you're running down to walcomeon it, because man, there's a

(08:01):
lot of debris coming down. Yep. I saw that offshore. I saw
that where we were again. Iwas three miles out the end of Georgetown
Jetties on the Georgetown in shore reef, and we watched piles of debris float
by. Well, those best guysgoing down on the river this morning,
they weren't looking for debris. No, I tell you, well, it's
they've opened the trunk dykes and lettingthe water out of rice fields and they're

(08:26):
flowing. So you're getting all thattrash all I mean, not trash,
but all that yeah, grass orwhatever you call it coming out, all
floating out and coming out in theriver. And you get used to seeing
that, and then all of asudden you see a clump and you don't
realize it is hooked to a fortyfoot tree right down in the middle of
the river. So so I'm aboutto fish. You catch any fish on

(08:48):
this, let's talk about that.Yeah, let's hear the river. This
is this is going to be ourfresh water report. Let's talk about the
river. Tough, Yeah, reallytough. So what do you throw to
some of your Tonny my arm outwith a chatow bait and a crank bait
yesterday in a spinner bait and allfour baths come on clipping all poor that

(09:11):
y'all caught or poor you caught? No? No, I know y'all.
You you, and I know y'all. What about JT? What would he
throw? Yeah? What would jT throw? Whatever it is, it's
fast and yeah, running quick,it would It would be dependent on where
you fished at. We tried severalplaces, and we even tried like seven

(09:31):
or eight trunk docks, and wecaught one fish off one or twelve minutes
fish off of one trunk dock andcaught one off but another trunk dot and
that was all. And now whatwhat Tony's referring to as a trunk dyke,
trunk dock, trunk It doesn't matterhow you say it. It is
the control lever that controls these impoundmentsUH water levels, and this time of

(09:54):
the year they will lock them open. They will tie open and keep steady
blow of water coming out or goingin. I guess in some case.
And you that were flooded for theducks, right, they're flooded for ducks.
Now they let them out. Theduck season's over, yep, drain
it. So you can have somereally good success around these over the next

(10:16):
two months. Really over than that. Yeah, the entire year you can
at times, but the next coupleof months it'll be a great key spot
where they're trying to get back inthere to spawn. They move in and
out of the spawn every year. And I've been with Tony where we hit
one trunk dyke that looks like,I mean, there's no way there's more
than two fish in there, andwatch him catch three four pounders, just

(10:39):
repeatedly, like one after the other. But here's a deal. You can
cast that bait all you want.If you don't hit the spot, you
ain't gonna get them. So thegroundhog says that we're gonna have early spring,
so one of these fish will startspawning I think summer whenever they want
to. Yeah, I think younarrowed that now for me. There's so

(11:03):
many different rules on spawning bass inSouth Carolina and different places where you at.
We got them. From now righton till July, we'll have spawning
fish, so take your pick. The majority of them will come up in
the next month. The next fullmoon coming up this month will really push
a wave into males yep, havealready pushed into the shallows, and they're

(11:26):
gonna build. They're gonna start buildingthe bus yep. Well, I am
switching tackle up on the boat assoon as we get off here. And
now I'm going to be putting mycrappy gear back on the boat because I
have got a date with some crappyin the river. I don't want to
call it a date, because Iwent to the date last weekend. They

(11:48):
just didn't show up. They werebeing stingy, we'll put it that way.
I'm familiar with that, man,I'll tell you. And I was
hoping Tommy was going to be heretoday because I really wanted to. I
wanted Tommy to be able to talkabout it. But that live scope lit
up at one point in time socrazy. I sent you all a picture.
Is it lit up so unbelievably crazythat I said, there's no way

(12:13):
we're not just going to sit hereand pound them, and I mean,
I just got to the point wherethis is like getting ready to get stupid.
And of course Tommy caught one inthe first spot. Tommy did catch
one in the first spot where Ihad called him in the past. And
then we go to the second spotand me and my partner Russ Russ continue
to get tangled up and he losesa rig and I have to retie,

(12:35):
and then Tommy is fishing NonStop, and I'm looking up at the screen going,
oh my gosh, and I'm justlike, you know, just getting
crazy and Nantcy and I look backup at the screen and they're everywhere,
and it's like the crappier on thebrush pile. And then when you pin
around and you look and then there'sthese big slobs that I know are bass
sitting back off of it and they'rejust sitting there going look at this buffet

(13:00):
and we caught one fish there,Wow, one fish. So it goes
back to that question, would yourather know they're there? They're not eating
exactly, not know That's what Isaid. I mean, hey, I
mean that hurts you then when youknow that there. I thought about it
all week, all week. Ihave tried to decide what I did wrong
all week. I mean one spotwe could have done a different couple of

(13:20):
different methods where where we saw allthe fish were was gonna have to be
something on the float, because ifwe have any time we threw something that
sunk, we got hung in thebrush and you'd break it off. But
if you it would have to besomething that would float with a bobber and
above, suspended about roofed above. But that'sh your problem with. But then

(13:41):
you got to see if they're ifthey're willing to come up and leave it
to go eat that. We lookedat them yesterday on the lifecoat. We
went actually when we yesterday and wewent tuesday, and uh, we found
some crappie and well you might upcloser. There we go. We went
through that little deal with watching themchase the lure and not eat it.

(14:03):
And we found some roppie brush bilesthat was loaded up. And of course
we wasn't crappy fishing, but rightthey was there. So well last week
at a triple on Saturday last week, go in a spot. Since you
a picture of me holding a fishright or my anger that fish was awesome,

(14:26):
all right, one the one hesent us, or that big fat
red fish. Yell, all right, well that that spot this time of
year. You and I both knowthere's not one fish there, and I
don't have live scope. I'm stillschool. But we caught that fish like
first few casts, right, wedidn't catch another one in there? Well,
I know good and well. Theywere there, yep, I mean
they were there. They were noteating my offerings. I mean it was

(14:50):
cold and northeast wind blowing twenty andall that. But there's no doubt in
my mind there was fishing that locale. I couldn't get them neat well,
they wouldn't touch it. I seenthe same thing yesterday, and that is
the only thing I could attribute itto that it could have been. Of
course, the water was so muddyyou couldn't see six inches deep. But

(15:11):
where me and Andrew was fishing,we come across these spots, little cuts
that goes back into little dead ends, and there was something schooled up in
there was pushing and you could runthrough them and your bait would hit them
in the back as you running itthrough it. It had to be rids.

(15:33):
There's no question in my mind ithad to be redfish. He did
catch that striper, yep, rightout in front of one of them,
but it was three or four differentspots in there we was at and you
hit this little dead end pocket andyou'd throw back in it, and all
of a sudden, it just thewater would erupt and they just come flooding

(15:56):
out. So when you were doingthat, you like changing using a lot
of different changing changing weight on jigs, changing colors, going from live bait
to artificial, doing live bait onjighead, live bait on hook, live
bait from the tail, live baitfrom the lip. I mean, just

(16:17):
everything possible. I'm going back todaybecause I don't think I spent as much
time Tony and I like to.We've had more success, I think with
the live bait, hooking it throughthe tail, letting it, getting it
to swim away. So I'm gonnatry that. I'm gonna try that.
Well, those fish have to eatsometime. Is that you could have been

(16:37):
timing during the day or tide orthat kind of thing with that, yep,
dictate what happens. You know,if you think about it, you
said the same thing on Saturday. If you think about it Saturday, I
think the ice bar. I thinkthat pressure was not doing what we wanted
to do. If I'm not mistaken. Wasn't it falling? Uh yeah,
because the weather was coming Yeah, and then it was shopping. I went

(16:57):
back Sunday to the inlet to catchtrout. I went on Sunday to go
catch the trout that I've been catching, went to the same spot at the
same time and where you tore thetrout up, yeah, like today four
days before. Went back and therewas another boat there. He and I

(17:18):
sat side by side. After itwas cold. I'm just gonna say Sunday
was cold. I had to dropRuss off, I had to drop my
dad off. I took everybody backand I went back by myself. We
caught seven between the two of us, and I lost two had to pop
off the hook. But we caughtseven between the two of us. And
we sat there for two and ahalf hours, like literally where we should

(17:42):
have caught probably twenty five. ButI don't think they weren't biting. And
I'll tell you because I could seethem on life coat. Well, I
could see him swimming through right, and that feeding on manhaden that Friday.
It was pretty it look but thisSaturday came up up and started blowing north
feast with the with the weather coming, and that weather went south of us

(18:06):
and had the northeast wind blown,so it was all mixed up. Yep.
So, but the fish you weretalking about on the crappy, those
fish is gonna eat. Sometimes they'regonna eat sometimes. We know we've been
using the boys and I've been goingwith because you went crappy fishing the same
day we did. We like tobeat up dock pilts. That's what we
like to do. I don't look, you know, we do ride and
look for brush pile and stuff likethat. But we got so many dock

(18:26):
pilons up on our end. Ilike to go and fish doughs and we
vertical jig. I tied double rigabout a foot apart just so I can.
It helps me find that depth.Yep. Sometimes they'll hit the top
jig. Sometimes they'll hit the bottomjig. But I'm using these little small
and I love artificial. How farapart are they? They're a foot apart
put apart, and on the armof about what three or four inches or

(18:48):
longer, okay, three or fourbut it's on one of the loop knots.
So there's a lot of freedom.Yep, you know it's mood.
I don't have it since down. And we're using a small shad mintal bits
Yep, the artificial the Bobby Garlandyou know baits. Yeah. I got
a friend of mine who's just thecrappy killer out there. He's he's got
to figure it out. But he'scasting to him. He's using the same

(19:10):
but he's using a spinner bait.Yuh, pulling back with those things.
But we go in vertical jig.We just sit there on those pilots and
we vertical jig over. By theway. That Bobby Garland bait. You
got it at the store, don'tyou. Yes? Yeah, So what's
your favorite color? I like theshad, the shad with natural natural Yep,
shad with red flake in it.That's what I like. That one
thing you can get into. Thecrappie does a million different Yeah. The

(19:33):
colors, good god, you lookat some of those guys and they got
three and four tackle dividers all fullof different colors. How much of that
is is to hook the angler? You know what? Agen those We were
talking about this in the shop theother day. A lot of these baits
are to catch the angler, notthe fish, right, you know.
But I've been watching I've got throughthe power of Facebook, I've become friends

(19:56):
with a guy out in Texas andhe is a big time crab fish and
Terry Etzel, uh well, Idon't know his name. No, his
name's Russell is Russell. They callhim slab nasty on uh on on the
we we we went and fished with. We went and hung out with one
of the big Texas crappy guys,Terry Etzel, and you should follow him.
He catches. Well, he's tyinghis own crappy jigs. I mean,

(20:19):
like like flies, like somebody wouldtie a fly, and he's and
it's not They don't look like anythingthat we're using around here. All ours
are soft plastic stuff like that. But no, these are feathery, you
know, really and vibrant colors. So I was like, you know,
maybe I'm gonna grab some of themand you know, and give that a
shot around here. That's where wecan get daniels start making some of those.

(20:41):
Yeah, you got somebody to makesome And I can always pull feathers
off my parrot and give you somedifferent all right, me and the Senator
are gonna have some peacock feather soon, very soon. Well, I'll tell
you what I thought. We gotto go to break. Jenna, you
there, you're not asleep? Areyou a super gen? Keeping things straight?
Back in that Sparks Toyota Thunder Studio, And we're gonna go to break

(21:03):
and when we come back on theother side. On March second is the
National Seminar Series, presented by SaltwaterMagazine and George po Baromo. And we've
got quite a few of our incrediblegroup here that'll be speaking there. And
George and I got together this weekand did a podcast trilogy Outdoors podcast episode,

(21:25):
and I wanted to save George thework this weekend having to get up
and join us. So we hada great segment talking about the Seminar series
and how you can get involved andhow it started. And we're gonna play
that when we come back on theother side of the break. But don't
go anywhere. This is the SouthernEnglish radio show on the Gator one oh

biz for all your rooping needs.Today. All right, y'all, welcome
back to the Southern English radio show, coming to you live via the Toyota
Tundra Studio presented by Sparks Toyota wherethe dealers always in and by Usboats and

(22:53):
marshl Marine of Lixi and Georgetown, where every day is a boat show everyday.
Yeah, and by the Freedom BoatClub where the vote is waiting,
and by Monarch Rupe and our goodfriends over there called Bert Williams and crew.
And get them to come over andget a great, great quote from
wonderful people on your roof. AndI'll tell you real quick, I want
to talk about something, the grinMarshall's Marine grin Strand Cup Series. And

(23:15):
now this is something new and itis going to be fun. I know
we're all going to do it.I think we're all going to participate in
it. Nobody is nobody is excludedfrom being eligible. But it is a
combination of all the local tournaments thatwe have here in a point system where
you sign up as a team atthe beginning of the year or at any

(23:38):
point prior to the last four.Okay, so we'll keep it open until
the last four. But now ifyou sign up before the next to last,
the last four, you obviously don'tget any points from the previous tournaments.
Had you done good okay, butit is going to be a points
event where you fished a team inthe already local tournaments that we're having anyway,

(24:04):
and you get points based on howyour team finishes in the event,
and at the end of the year, the team with the most points will
be crowned the Marshall's Marine Grand StrandCup winner. We'll be doing all those
awards in January at the Greenstrand RodeoBanquet and there is cash involved. You
will win cash. You're gonna win, gonna We're gonna get the Todd brothers

(24:26):
to work on a great trophy idea. They're incredible. You'll win a cup
as well, some type of trophyas well to go with it. But
you're gonna fish these tournaments anyway, why not jump in on a little extra
and make it make it incentive tofish as many of them as you can.
And of course we've got starting out. It will start with the Greenstrand

(24:48):
Saltwater Anglish Plownder Tournament in April, then it will go to the Habitat for
Humanity in Shor Slam in Georgetown Junesecond. Then it will go to the
Spanish Micro World Championship in August thenwhat's next. That would be next would
be the Inshore Slam. Nope, not the Meryl's Inlet Marshwalk. It'd be

(25:11):
the new Palmetta State Armory Little RiverInshore Slam Tournament. Then it will be
the Marshall Marien Marshwalk Mafia Inshore Slam, and then it will conclude with hook
for Heart's Specacla Trout Tournament in December. So it's going to be a great
time. We got a lot ofironing out to do on the specifics,

(25:32):
but it will all be run throughthe same app that you use for the
Greenstrand Rodeo. It will be underFishing Chaos and once you download the greenstran
And Rodeo app, you will haveaccess to the tournament. It is going
to be run under our brand ofGreenstrand Rodeo, be run under that,
but it will be a separate tournamentunder the Rodeo. So something fun for

(25:53):
twenty twenty four and again, youknow we might even drag Fred into tournament
fishing once again. Well I'm gonnatry to get this chef out there.
Yeah, Chef, I know you'relistening, So here you go, Chef.
You have done a good job ofhiring a ringer. We know that
you've already got a ringer on yourteam. Now I'm hiring just a partner.
Yeah, partnering up with a witha ringer. Now here's the deal.

(26:15):
We'll get Fred and we get aDo we have his boat listed yet?
Does it for sale? We gothis boat, we can get which
one chefs? Yeah, chef,Oh yeah, yeah. We get Chef's
boats sold, and then we're gonnaget shipped to go get you a new
Key West two thirty Bay Reef,Chef. Then y'all have everything you need
to do whatever. And and justin case Sheff was wondering, Fred knows

(26:37):
how to catch his finish, Micael, don't let him fool you. Don't
let don't don't let the fact thathe's got spots on the side of his
head like a red fish for you. I would since we're going to do
the radio show from the boat thatday, or try to yep. I
think you and Chef need to fishoff upon toon boat and we can let
Chef put his skills to work whileyou catching fish. He can be cooking

(26:59):
break before all of us guys, and we'll all meet up and come jump
on the boat and do the radioshow and eat breakfast. Just think about
it. He would do that,Richard in a heart, he would,
he would. I love him gettingintroduced at the Fishing Club meeting the other
night. And and of course DaveRapp did an incredible job introducing him to
everybody and let him know who hewas. And and uh, once you

(27:22):
meet Chef, I mean you,you don't forget him. I mean just
an absolute gentleman, nice, verynice guy. And believe it or not,
for him to be from California,he fits in pretty Danton good right
here. He gives it tickles mebecause he gives you a qualifier right out
front about who he is, aboutwho he is. He does, he
qualifies it. He does. Hemakes sure don't think, don't think I'm

(27:45):
one of those hus don't don't confuseme with typical California with fruits and nuts.
Yeah, exactly, he does.So he does. I'll tell you
what. Hey, Uh, I'mguessing that the trafficing conway's pretty crazy.
You got to drive back through it. I didn't know it was. It

(28:06):
was already nuts coming down five fortyforty. You might want to take the
long way. Oh, man.Yeah, I was just reading where the
county police is posting the uh,when are they shutting the road down?
I didn't say they were shutting itdown. They was just said expect delays.
Yeah, you might go through yoursdown and go home. Yeah,
you might want to go seven ohone is seven o't one? Yeah,

(28:27):
Grand Dunes after this, so Idon't have to hit that. You know,
we hadn't had Captain Scottie on fora while from PALMDA State Armory,
and and I'm just gonna say it. I know he's not listening, so
I can say it. But CaptainScotti is in Mexico right now on vacation,
is he. Yeah. I wastexting with him as he was getting
on the plane the other day andhe took his like he said, you

(28:49):
know, between his charter boats andrunning the fishing department at pal Meta State
Armory, the man is going tobe busy starting here in the next month.
That's all what everybody is. Iknow, y'all all got to be
ready for it. I mean,I'm on summertime. Can't get here fastening
a note. I've had enough winter, thank you. I'm done. Yeah,

(29:10):
I'm over it. Yeah, I'vehad enough, Tony. You ready
to pick that weed? Eat itup again? Oh God, I'm ready.
I love the fact that the grassis not growing right now personally,
but I will tell you this much. I was down at Merle's Olyp Fishing
Charters yesterday. Jason was kind enoughto let Chief Hill and I and the
crew Hu hang on. Sorry,Oh oh, I had a power cord.

(29:37):
Come undone. There we go.We're trying to record, y'all.
I'm trying to make sure we gottathere we go. We're about to lose
my computer. Yeah, about tolose my computer. But anyway, he
was kind enough to let us comedown there and use the uh Merles Olyp
Fishing Charters. H incredible cleaning stationand dockage there. And y'all those boys

(29:59):
have opted out the park. Theyhave built the add on. I'm so
proud of them. They have builtthe new addition to the building and it
is done painted, ready to go. I've got to go by there and
check look at it. We aregoing to be mounting a TV that's going
to be our contribution slash advertising forTrilogy Outdoors. We're gonna be adding a
TV to the building that's gonna beout there running twenty four to seven on

(30:25):
the side of the building. Now, Jason's going to be putting in some
of his videos, but we're gonnabe putting some of our stuff in there
as well. But it's gonna benice. We're doing a big fishing day
on April fourteenth, I think itis with Marshall's Marine down there, and
that happens to be the last dayof the Masters. So when we come
back from fishing, we're gonna beable to watch the Masters. And that's

(30:45):
the real reason why I figured outhow to put that TV up there so
we can watch the last day.Good. Let the get out the bag
and explain all this that there's amethod to the madness. Yes, but
we are going to get back thereand and watch that. And it is
always fun to take those guys fromMarshall's Marine out as a thank you and

(31:06):
get them out there on the water. A lot of those guys from Lake
City don't get to do much saltwaterfishing, so for them it's pretty good.
Now, two years ago we madethe mistake. We booked it and
we did it in February. Imean, I'm not gonna lie it was
miserable. I think one boat mayhave caught like eight nine fish and then
my boat gots conked. I'll justtell you my boat got counked. I

(31:27):
had justin Autman's son Marshall looking atme, and he actually quite a few
times said do you normally catch fish? When you yeah, I felt like
I was back in my charter days. It's like taking kids fishing and you
don't catch anything. You ruin Thoseboys. M bringing them in February,
yep. So we're bringing them inApril when we know we got some options

(31:47):
things to do. Hopefully it'll benice. We can get out to the
reef, catch the weak fish, catch them, finish, plownd to bite.
Should be good in the inlet andeverything else. But I'll tell you
that in MYFC is going to bea fun little place. And hopefully we're
going to be back doing Captain's FeloniousReports. And by the way, have
you joined us for one of thoseyet? Oh you've got to come down
you have it either, no,okay? So yeah. So Captain's s

(32:10):
Felonious Report is another brand of TrilogyOutdoors and it is a the truth about
the truth behind Charters ugly, whateveryou want to call it, it is
the truth. We couldn't play mostof it on here, that's for sure,
but it is all the stories frombehind the scenes on charters, and

(32:34):
to hear it from these captain's mouseor awesome. We've got a group of
captains from Southport that want to comedown and join us. We're looking forward
to having them. I know,we've got some guys from Little River that
want to come join us. Butwe started it despite the fact that it
is at mi IFC. We startedit to be a voice for the charter
captain to tell the truth about whathappens on charters. You know, you

(32:55):
know, being a charter captains allfun, It is all fun, all
work out. Yeah yeah, whatdo you mean all you do is fish
all day? Yeah, that's right. I've had people say I just live
a vacation, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. I
do love when I hear people complainingabout pricing, and then I look at

(33:15):
other prices and it's just like,Wow, you're really going to complain about
a guy taking his knowledge. Now, for the most part, we're gonna
say eighty percent of the captain's okay, eighty percent of the captains taking their
knowledge out there to put you onfish, to make sure you have fun
and to entertain you while you're onthe water. And but yet there's there's

(33:35):
other things that you'll spend far moremoney on and it's wasted and not run
aground in Northland going through jon screen. Yeah, no, man's free.
Well how much is that worth? It's worth a lot. How much is
it in licenses and insurance on andon that you have to pay every year
and all the permits because they're notlike just me going and jumping the boat

(33:59):
and taking my buddies. You know, know, y'all don't get that pass.
Y'all have a lot of guidelines thaty'all have to follow. Well,
the other night that followed at themeeting, we're talking about reports with the
with the follow reports every month onour fishing activity and what we did.
And if you go two months withoutreporting, then a game warder to show

(34:22):
up at your front door, willyou'll hear, You'll hear knock, knock
knock. You haven't followed your reportsand they give you that look. But
that's just part of it that peopledon't understand the overhead and involved in being
a fishing guide doesn't a lot.I mean, if you own a boat,
you know it's expensive. Well, then I've got all those expenses along
with the liability insurance and the Texasand on and on and on and the

(34:47):
you have we've got to. You'vegot the flashboat is set up, and
the pontoon we've got to. Soyeah, it's uh, it's a it's
a chore. I mean it's it'sdon't regret it by any means. I
enjoy doing it. But there's aI mean I'm doing I'm gonna have to
do the uh I call it theapplication dance here soon to renew my captain's

(35:08):
license. Yep. And that thatis unbelievably a peta yep yea. And
when I renewed mine two years ago, it went to Honolulu, Hawaii.
Jeez, that's where my renewal went. Wow, all right, But then

(35:29):
your medical goes to West Virginia.I just got my mid card back.
So and it doesn't come back toyou in one piece. It comes back
piecemeal from this department that department. Then you put it together. When you
originally become a captain and and apply, you go through this long process to
do that. Well, when yourenew, you go through the exact same

(35:52):
process. The only I think, the only exception is you don't have to
have another captain sign off for you. Other than that, it is the
same process, and it's cost yourmoney to do it, and that is
a booklet that we have to fillout. It is I mean, good
Lord, have mercy. I meanit's not to mention just the stress of

(36:13):
what you have to go through dealingwith people. Because I've been saying a
long time there's a fine line betweenbeing a fishing guide and just a high
paid babysitter. Yep, there's aline there, and well this can get
crazy every now and then. Andjust the stress of knowing you've got six
people on your boat and you responsiblefor them. You being responsible for my

(36:37):
family, my kids, my wife. That to me, that's worth all
the six hundred dollars I could payyou every day of the week, brother,
without any of your other expenses,Just knowing that you're there to look
out for the best interest of myfamily. Absolutely them back safely. You

(36:58):
can't put a price on them.Made to comment many times pulling up to
the ramp, Well, I leftwith three and I came back with three
things good. That's our joke, yep. I mean, you know,
before we head out, we alwayssay you know, hey, I tell
them, you know, my mymain goal, my main purpose is safety,

(37:20):
is to get at my my cat, my crew, you know,
my passengers, my vessel back tothe dock safely. Theirs is fun and
I want you to have fun.But my main I've canceled trips. We
get out there and and and youknow my thing is we hear thunder,
We're gonna We're gonna turn around.I'm not being out there in the lightning.
I'm not doing it. Yep.I will refund you one hundred percent
of your money, but I'm justnot gonna do it right. I don't

(37:43):
any I having a policy that Idon't look. I don't leave in the
ring. No, I mean, you're gonna get on the back and I'm
gonna run. BB's in your facefor starting out. I don't do that
either. The weather, it doesn'tmatter what they say. I call the
weather that you know, because likeI said, we're responsible for him.
And and there's times I get spookedand it doesn't work out, and there's

(38:05):
other times something out there and runback and could have stayed. But you
know you've got to You've got theair on the side of you've got an
air on the side of saving youtake but one time, yep, for
that one thing to go wrong towhere you have a lifetime of regrets behind
you. I live with. Yeah, I mean I've got to. I've
got to run back around hopcoll andstuff and that you can get cut off.

(38:28):
And I mean I've I've got somefriends and de Wi Doo where we've
gone side of their house for twohours on the thunder storm just because I
couldn't run back to town. Butyeah, you're responsible to these people's lives.
Man. It's it's uh and andI'll tell you it's fun, but
it's serious. We laugh and jokeabout some people that are getting into charters
and have gotten into charters and thefact that they don't have the experience not

(38:52):
only just fishing but in boating todo it. But we all know that
there's loopholes and there's ways you canthrough the captain's class and such. But
when it comes down to it,at the end of the day, you
have a huge responsibility with getting peopleback safely and just above and beyond fishing.

(39:13):
The heck we catching fish, it'sgetting them back safety. And I
just think there's some out there thatjust don't have any idea what they're doing.
And I mean, yeah them, but I'm not going to now we're
not going to. But there's someout there that don't know what they're doing
and think because they called they gotlucky and called a nice fish of belkie
bear, that all of a suddentheir captains. Do you know Tony looks

(39:37):
funny in that chair. He's royaltythrown. You know it don't take but
that one time. And we've talkedabout this on the show before you know
much time. You have to makea life and disk decision when something happens
on the water. I say itall the time, always have. You

(39:59):
got to be like shortstop playing baseballwhen you're on a boat if you want
to survive, because if that onething goes wrong, you have to be
asking yourself what am I going todo if the ball comes to me.
If you don't ask yourself that ina boat, you can make that decision
that will end your life or somebodyelse's just in a millisecond because you wasn't

(40:23):
thinking of the scenarios that could happen. You know what if we take a
wave here, you know what ifwe engine cuts off, we get washed
at the rocks. You have toask yourself what am I going to do
if this happens? And if youthink like that, you can go out
and you'll be safe ninety percent ofthe time. Well, one thing I

(40:47):
do that people know that I don'tsay anything about it generally, but I
never take my bowel line off. It's stretch out on the deck. And
I know people were wonder why hedoesn't put that line up. Well,
if the ball comes to me andthe boat's upside down, the boat's not

(41:07):
gonna sink, No, but theboat's upside down and we need to get
up on the hall, Well, that bow line it's gonna be a great
assistant jank you or butt up onthe boat. Yeah, And it's just
something that I've always done. Kindof I've never used that, And pray
to God, you never had thatright, I've never had to you do
that. But if something happened andwe end up upside down the water and

(41:30):
I need to get these people upon the boat, it gives them way
to pull up and so I justkeep the battle line on the boat.
It keep gives them something to graba hole to keep from getting washed down
stream away from the boat. Imean, it's just and thank you for
thinking of something like that. It'sthings normal people don't think about and see.
But if you don't ask yourself, what if the ball is hit to

(41:52):
me? Do I throw it tohome? Do I throw it to the
picture? I throw it the second? Hey? Do I throw it to
the outfield? I mean, yougot everybody who thinks differently. We hit
on this last week when Tom,when mister green Jeans was here. You
know, I had an incident yearsago before I was a cabin I was
just we were out for a dayon the water and that type for that

(42:14):
throw, yep, it stays rightbeside me. I can grab it right
there because I came up on aboat and those of your listening last week
it was capsized. One guy couldnot swim. He's in the water with
no life jacket on, and he'sgonna drown you. He's gonna drown me.
I grabbed my throw and I tossedit to him and he gets on

(42:37):
it. And then luckily I hada guy on the boat and he went
into water and helped him, youknow. And so that's always stuck in
my head. And I always keepthat throw right beside me. I've got
one in a hatch. But assoon as I opened the hatch, it's
the first thing there, yep,is the throwable. I mean, if
I opened that hatch, I Idon't even have to look. It's a

(42:58):
boom. I'm on it in thisout and it's right beside where you're driving.
Yeah, this is in reaching me. See, that's why then reach
and I'm I'm I mean to me, that is readily available. I had
a young coastguard guy said, you'resupposed to have your life for end from
the deck. Yeah, Like whwhere where do you want me to put
that? Exactly? Yeah? Andwhere where's it going to go? When

(43:21):
I'm running forty miles an hour?So well, the guy that was running
the boats, this man, nowhe's like, cool out, man,
this cool out for a minute.I was fortunate when I bought my g
money. It's a mud brown seventeento ten alluminum boat. It didn't have
seats in it or a carpet oranything. And the first time that we

(43:43):
went out to boat, me andShannon and the kids. We went over
to Paula's Island, put the boatin. Well, I don't know if
you know how hot the deck ofan illuminum boat gets. Yes, sir
yep. I got out in thewater and jumped up in the boat and
sat down and I heard my assSince that day, I don't have seats
in my boat. I ride onmy boat cushions. Yeah, so just

(44:07):
throwty seats away and you can justsit on your boat cushion. It's always
readily available. Just letting y'all knowwe're getting a lot of great responses.
Sergeant Pardue, thank you so muchfor listening to in brother. But we're
getting some great responses to the topicsthat we're talking about. But I know
we've got to go to break inreal quick. I want to mention a
couple of things. Habitat for Humanity. Our good friends down in Georgetown are
having teas for Keys Golf tournament onFebruary twenty second. Nine am registration,

(44:32):
ten am shotgun start. If youwant to get in touch with Jacob Regoppolos,
please please get in touch with JacobRigoppolos and get signed up. I
believe he's got a couple teams leftopen. I'm actually just so y'all know,
I'm actually going to record an hourof the radio show for that Saturday
there. I'm gonna be there atthe golf tournament. Now, I'm going

(44:52):
to record with Bob Sigonde, mygood friend, head pro and director of
golf at Caledonia and True Blue.Bob's gonna sit him with me, and
actually gonna have my dad and acouple others sit in with Jacob and we're
going to record an hour of theshow that day. But that is that
beautiful True Blue golf course. Andfor I think it's yeah, one twenty

(45:12):
five per person or five or excuseme, yep, five hundred dollars for
the team. You will be treatedto lunch, breakfast, drinks, golf,
all kinds of prizes. It's worthit for a great call. So
I'm going to share this flyer onceagain on our Facebook page and you can
skin that QR code to get signedup. But y'all come down there.

(45:34):
The other thing is Tony Blowfish, fish Head, Tony, whatever you call
him. We want to wish hima happy birthday birthday next week. He
is seventy seven years old. Finallydouble hockey sticks. I'm just kidding,
buddy. Anyway, Happy birthday tothe one and only Fishhead Tony. He's
really upset because he can't call usanymore like he used to, so he
doesn't like this remote thing. Butbut he does have my cell phone number

(45:57):
so I get text from him.But anyway, birthday to one and only
fish Had Tony. And let's goto break. Jenna, you're ready,
Yes, all right, We're gonnago to break. We come back on
the other side. We got somegreat other local happenings going on that we
want to talk about and promote, and we'll be right back. This is
the Southern Anglois Radio Show on theGator one oh seven point nine. Freeman

Welcome back to the Southern English radioshow. Hey, that's called the
palls for the calls, right,Yeah, Anyway, the reason I was
doing that is because I wanted tomake sure I was recording. All right.

(47:29):
Anyway, we're back and we're comingto you live via the Toyota Tune
Studio presented by s Park Toyo towhere the Degal is always in. But
we are sitting in the beautiful PondRoad Storage studio enjoying this beautiful sunlight out
there, and Tony is sitting inthe throne. And speaking of thrones,
Tony, tell me about that boatmanufacturer in that boat company that should be
sitting on a throne, and whoare they? Key West Coats, Marshall

(47:51):
Marine Lake, sitting Georgetown Boat Showevery day every day and by the Freedom
Boat Club where your boat is waiting. Hey hey, hey, hey hey,
they might have some people wanting tocome down there find their boat.
Well, I know, I getto meet with car and Barry this week.
I'm super excited to meet with CareAnd Karen is so awesome, and
y'all we love hearing her. Youknow, everybody has heard the Freedom Boat

(48:14):
Club. Yep, exactly right inthe morning. Everybody's heard that spot.
And it is a great spot. It's a nice lady, and there is
an incredible need for Freedom Boat Club. They do a great job and they
supply service that a lot of peopleneed. And I don't care what not.
Every one of us is programmed totake care of a boat. And

(48:37):
if you think about like yesterday,I got back from my you know,
six hours on the water and honestly, like the work just started. And
Caleb Hartley, Captain Caleb, Iwant to give you a huge shout out,
thank you, hug whatever it is. Caleb took half to fish and
said, give them to me.I love cleaning fish, and help me

(48:57):
clean all this fish. But youknow, have the work starts, then
you got to clean the boat. Then you got to get everything off the
boat. Did you got it?I mean, for me, that's a
fun part of being a cabin Yeah, that's fun part. Yeah, that's
that far of being a chart ofcabin. Yeah, yeah, I love
that part. I say it likeyesterday, you know, we were literally
you figure, we were fourteen milesout in the ocean and fishing twenty feet

(49:20):
from Captain Tyler Kobele, and weloved it. We had a blast.
We anchored literally like because I hada live scope. So they're like,
all right, where's it that, where's the that? I said, this
right under your boat, dude.Little did I know that I might have
been off a little bit a hundrednavy degrees yeah, about one hundred navy
degrees. But anyway, we werefishing right next to each other, just
having so much fun and talking, craped each other and picking on each other.

(49:45):
And you know, you you losesheep'shead from time to time, you
will. They got that hard mouthand you just don't get the hookset good
enough. And we had that happen. They had it happen, and but
we had a blast. But thenI had to come on, you know,
clean the boat, get the boatout of the water, and do
everything else. And that's a bigundertaking. And with Freedom Boat Club,

(50:07):
guess what you get back. Youget off the boat and say bye bye,
say bye later, peace out.I had a chance I met Karen.
She came to walking my outfitters.Uh, they come every year,
and I didn't know that. Thisis a cool little thing that they do
is they have a membership cruise. That's right, they do the cruise and
they will take like six seven oftheir pontoons, load the members on it

(50:30):
and they'll come down to Conway. They'll go and eat and they'll walk around
downtown. Because the reason I noticedis they stop by them ringing it like
where a few and we're like amad fuel dash to fill up all the
boats. They get back and thenthey strike back out man, that's a
that's a cool little deal they gotgoing on. Yep, that is great.
That's a great deal. And youcan enjoy that too by joining Freedom

(50:51):
Boat Club of the Grands Trand. But when you join Freedom Boat Club of
the Grands Trand, you're joining freedomBoat Club everywhere. Yes, that's another
big part of it is, youknow, you know, if you want
to go on those trips and headdown to Florida or head wherever. I
mean inland, you got lakes,You've got plenty of places that have Freedom
Boat Club on the lakes. It'sgreat options. You know, again,

(51:13):
some people just aren't cut out forboat ownership, and I mean they're not.
It's stressful. It's stressful. Idon't even own my boat and it's
stressful. I'm just saying I wouldbe more stressed with that than I would
have. Yeah, right, Sohad I got a preaching to this week,
and it was a very kind preachingtoo. But and I think we

(51:35):
all agree that probably for us insalt water, the key time in which
our roads on our brakes and ouraxles start to break down is not from
anything other than the minute we putthe boat in the water. While we're
on the water, and then whenwe get back because that salt sits on
that And I was made promise,Okay, let me be honest. I

(52:00):
was made to promise. But Iwill get a poor gallon backpack, blow
uh tank sprayer and keep it inmy truck. And I'm gonna try sawt
away. If you've seen the adsfor sawt away on Facebook social media,
I'm gonna keep it mixed with thecombination of the concentrated sawt away. And
every time I park the trailer orwhoever parks the trailer, which is normally

(52:23):
me if Tony's with us, whenI park the truck, I'm gonna get
out and spray to axle sall, yes, spray them all really good.
And then it brought an idea likewhy do we not have somebody with a
trailer with a tank on it thatsits up there in the parking lot,
sits right on that thing and rinses, Hey, you want to rent all

(52:43):
five dollars here, two dollars.I don't care. I'll rent off your
trailer. I know a guy Iwon't say who he is, but he's
my brother. I won't say whohe is. Bless his heart. He
was selling his boat, nice book, beautiful. Key West guy was coming.
We were gonna go take it tothe to the landing and run it
for the guy. So I codown. I go down there. He

(53:06):
wanted some help. So I goand hook up to it. And I
went to pull off. It wouldn'tmove. And I'm like, now,
this is a you know, threeyear old boat. I mean, this
is a newer boat. It don'ttake that light. And I said,
what's wrong? You know, okay, maybe the tongue stuck on the you
know, the trailer. Nope, the brakes were seized. They were welded

(53:29):
to. I mean because he didn'trinse it. Yep, yep. I'll
jumped in at w do some Andwhen I at the end of the day
I stopped by Walkawatchee, I dunkedthe boat back. It's not a bad
idea. That's a lot of peopledo that. I dump it back,
dump it in, start the engineup, flushed engine, engine, and
get all the salt water out ofthe trailer. I mean, will it

(53:51):
give me another three months? Probably? Yep from all that effort. But
you're right. But it's just likeMerle's Inland. That's like ocean water and
then I'm gonna take it to theriver and I dunk it in, and
you know, I don't know,it seems like it's well, I'm going
to tell you I'm blessed, youknow, being right here, I can
go to Themlet go hit the water, go do whatever, and then run
right down watch us all road.Go dump it in right and then come

(54:13):
right here to Palm Road Storage andput it up. And you know,
again, the thing I love isthat when I go to use the boat,
I don't have to worry about anhour and a half of my time
washing it before I can go useit. After I washed it and put
it up. A lot of folks, do you know when you're sitting it
under, when you're sitting it undertrees and everything else, I mean,
it gets terrible. So but there'slots of options over here. And you'll

(54:34):
have seen the parking lots pretty busyhere, everybody coming and going over here.
But a great storage facility, theElvis family Elvis Services here at Pond
Road Storage can take care of youand get you in. If you want
climate control, they got it rightthere across the street. You know,
we'd love to have that that wouldbe nice, but that's a little above
our pay grade. Don't have likea batting cage. Yeah, that's that's

(54:57):
the boys all over there practicing rightnow. Yeah, we got a batting
cage in there. I mean it'sprivate, but it's owned by an individual
and all the kids from the baseballteam get to come over there and practice
year round. Like to tell youhow much room they got, They got
a baton cage in there for thelord's sake. Well, I mean you
look in here. We got thisplace is huge, Yeah it is.
I mean we could put you know, my boat and a john boat in

(55:19):
here, and have the studio inhere and a trailer and the trailer by
the way, nobody noticed my donuts. By the way, I brought a
dozen donuts. I've seen him.I was wondering if you brought them or
Matt brought down. Huh, Iwant to do it. I went this
morning early. That's why I didn'tcome pick you up. And I totally
thought about it when I got here. But yeah, I got up,
I couldn't sleep, went and gotdonuts and got us all set up.

(55:42):
But I'll tell you what real quick. I want to talk about one thing
the cool contests that you can geta part of if you joined the Grand
Train Saltwater Anglers. Is there quarterlyfishing contest okay, and it is four
species of fish each quarter winter ofeach fish wins fifty dollars cash this quarter
January, February, March of wintertrout, black drum, redfish, and

(56:06):
black sea bass. Next in thespring it'll be flounder, redfish, bluefish,
hey hey dolphin. And the summerJuly, August and September of flounder,
Spanish weakfish and king mickerel. Andthen in the fall fiasco a redfish
sheep said, black sea bass andwhakfish really good species to get out and

(56:27):
target. And you know, ifyou're gonna do the rodeo, you might
as well sign up and do thistoo, because most of these species are
going to be covered into rodeo duringthose months as well. But fifty dollars
cash for each winn and I gotan objective. My objective is to see
how many of those I can tryto win. I'm leading black drum now
that five point three four was whatit was, took the lead for the

(56:51):
month so far. But I'm gonnago check chase a steckle trout by the
way, I know where some bigones are right now. What else has
been going on? Anybody else goingto thing to cover? Matt, you
got to go show a boat today. You know where you're going. Yeah,
I'm headed up to the Grand Dunes. We got a boat that somebody's
want to look at. Uh.We got a lot of great listings,
a lot of good lists, thecenter consoles, we got some cabin cruisers.

(57:12):
Uh, you name it. Man. Now you were saying that the
boat market kind of seems to haveslowed a little bit. It seems to
have slowed down some. You know, we are getting some phone calls on
some boats. I'm not doing awhole lot of showings right now. I'm
hoping things are going to pick up, you know. And they will,
they will. It's just not timeof a year, really, and it
is going to start picking up.I think we've got a lot of people
just shopping right now. Well,I tell you, we don't talk politics

(57:36):
on here, but I'm just gonnasay it's an election here, and and
we all know that crazy things happenin an election here. Huh. Yes,
And and and with recent findings thinkpeople are a little more nervous about
election here. Some people aren't nervousbecause they don't even know what's going on
anyway. Iance is blissed sometimes anyway, all right, I said I'd stay

(58:01):
away from that. Let me stayaway from that. Well, we'll talk
about d n R. Let's talkabout this meeting you. So y'all had
what they call them scoping meetings orsomething or that. Would that be right?
Basically it's an annual meeting that thisis pretty good they need to do
before the busy season with dn R. And you had Matt Perkinson, you
had Garrett from the new Saltwater Division, uh Saltwater Marine Division of dn R.

(58:27):
Here is it a combined unit betweenthe Orient and Georgetown or is it
just Georgetown us both? And Itried to nail him down at these they've
hired four additional guys. Wonderful. So we've got four new law enforcement guys
on out here. And I triedto nail him down to whether that was
the these four will be nailed downto salt Water right, that's not the

(58:50):
case. Okay, they're not yet, not yet, that's kind of a
goal. But these guys are training, have gone into training and they got
additional training and they are also trainingto where they can work in federal waters.
Okay, and that's pop, that'sthat's needed because a lot of funding
for our d n R officers comethrough federal funding. Funding that helps fuel

(59:15):
those boats to get out there.Yeah, and then the Feds have two
guys from the state of South Carolina, so anyway they want to do that.
But you know, we rarely seethe guys in salt water. You
know, there's a lot to cover, especially I mentioned another night September.
I mean, you gotta list longas your arm of what they got to

(59:37):
cover in September. Yep, Imean it's unbelievable. How much so that
last two weeks of September when yougot shrimp, alligator doves, duck doves,
and you've got teal season in deer'sseason, and you got you know,
they got a lot to do.But one thing, Matt was talking
about the fisheries and what's going onwith the fisheries, and part of it,

(01:00:01):
they have some graphs up and youknow, these guys are scientists that
you know, they look at dataand they can put that into a graph
situation that makes sense to us.You said one of They wasn't talk reds
first, but they had one graphto where there was intersecting lines between they
had years. Try to explain thiswhere it makes sense saying it. They

(01:00:24):
had years listed for like the lastthirty years and the amount of fish that
were kept, like red fish thatwere kept, and it's a descending line
down to where there's very few redfish kept now. And then there's another
line on how many are released andit is climbing, so you know there's
a catching release is popular. Butone thing that's the question in dn r's

(01:00:47):
mind is when you have reports howmany fish are caught that how many of
these fish have been released and gettingcaught again. In other words, if
you were taking them out of thesystem and you were still catching big numbers,
you wouldn't you wouldn't catch a fishagain, right, you understand If
that makes sense, you're right. So you recapturing these same fish over and

(01:01:09):
over again, doesn't it's not anindication that the population is going up.
If that makes sense, It makesa lot of sense. Yeah, it
makes a lot of sense. AndMatt, how many did they tagging marlds
in? Did he have a number? You know, they came and participated
in tagging in the Rotary Tournament andin the Grand Strand Saltwater Anglers. One

(01:01:30):
thing that I agreed to help themwith. They're looking for guys to start
tagging flounder and the more you tag, the more data they go get back.
That the flounder numbers. They shedthat as well for you fection that
this was a guide meeting, andwe talked about other other things that don't
apply to the general public. Rightthe uh, the flounder situation. They

(01:01:57):
put the graph up and they're notseeing the effect. They're not seeing a
positive effect from the new limits orthe restrictions in North Carolina. But Matt
also made the point that it hasnot been enough time to see what the
real effect of that will be.Right well, I mean there's got to

(01:02:22):
be an impact from North Carolina orthe restrictions in North Carolina that would at
least impact. Well, the impactin North Carolina is that all the anglers
just started comingto South Carolina and thatwas brought on the impact that was brought
up by one of the captains. But at least on the north end of
South Carolina coast, we ought tosee an improvement on our end of the

(01:02:46):
coast, simply because of the NorthCarolina restrictions. I remember cussing the fishing
little river that was tagged in CapeFear River a flounder. Yep, So
the fisher moving, I would makesense that the North Carolina reds ought to
reflect here. That's not showing that, right. Well, we've we got

(01:03:08):
some work to do. I knowthat, and I'll tell you, but
I know, I know D andR is working hard. But the point
is that for one thing that Itook out of that was to start tagging
flounder. And let's give them somemore data. Yep. These guys are
scientists and they run control situations, and if they don't see changes in that

(01:03:30):
control, you know, you andI can talk about what we catch.
It's anecdotal, and they they justtake that as anecdotal. But the more
information they have, the better judgmentsthey can make on decisions of what's going
to happen. Right, Yeah, yeah, you're right, it's it.

(01:03:51):
You know. I'd like to seeI'd like to see the anglers more involved
in the numbers instead of the biologists, and that being the fact that typically
we give better numbers. I justhate to say it. I mean the
truth is you can get better numbersfrom us, and that means I need
to sign up for the tagging program. Yeah, you're signing up. Tony

(01:04:12):
needs to be in the tagging program. I know, we've got some incredible
volunteers in merles Inlet that are inthe tagging program that that really participate and
do a great job. And whatwe're talking about with the tagging program,
obviously, you you catch a fish, you tag it, you input the
data, you send it to dnR. You tag that fish, and
when it's recought, then you harvestthat fish or or release it whatever you

(01:04:35):
want to do. But you getthat tag number and you can talk about
the growth, how long it's livedand everything else. And you know,
I love seeing when these fish leavemerles in It and go to North Inlet
or go somewhere else. I loveseeing these flounder leave somewhere else and they
can track movement and also growth. But all the fish when our restrictions at

(01:05:00):
sixteen, all the fishery captain arekeeping their females right. But also also
if they're thirteen inches, they're females. They're also females. Really, the
majority of our females as well whenthey get mature for where they can spawn
majority of them in when they're thirteeninches or females. So the fact that

(01:05:23):
we're taking females yep, yep,Well, I know, I know,
I know. There's a lot oftalking. There'll be some things coming out
over the next couple of weeks, and you know, hopefully we'll get these
accurate numbers because I just cannot see. Because here's the I can pick the
phone up right now and call threevery good plounder fishermen and get their thoughts

(01:05:46):
on it, and they're going toall tell me that this was this was
their best year with plounder. They'reall going to tell me that I did.
They're going to I know that I'llcall more this year than traditionally I
would, which are incidentals, butCaltimore in better quality. And then the
argument can be, oh, well, they're good flounder fishermen, they're on

(01:06:08):
the water all the time, blahblah blah. But no, when when
when they come back from two yearsago they were complaining about the flounder and
then we make a regulation change andnow they're saying that they're seeing more flounder
they're catching more flounder. I mean, the proofs into pudding. You cannot
sugarcoat the fact that I mean weI think we've seen I think we've seen

(01:06:31):
the flounder of fishery start to improve. I mean that that to me is
a direct reflection on the restrictions inNorth Carolina. I mean, at least
I'm an Norphanto the coast yep thatyou know, since they quip masking them
up in North Carolina makes sense? The massacre? What the thing is you're
telling the truth? Well, thething about it is, if you want

(01:06:54):
to go to merle Zella and eatflounder, where did they come from?
So, I mean we're the onesputting pressure on their resource up there,
yep, because we want to eatflounder and myrtles inlet and they're coming out
of North Carolina. Of the commercialfor the most part, You're right,
they are. They were they are. We don't we know that, so
but it you know, it makessense to me, at least on the
north end of the coast that youknow that number ought to improved down in

(01:07:18):
Beaufort. And I grew up nowin Beaufort, and you know, Danny
and my brother is a guy downthere. Flounder's not as prevalent as it
is here. Nope, they justare they are. They not targeted.
I have gone with Danny and wesmacked the flounder at the southern tip of
Fripp Island. They've got rocks downthere, like jetty rocks to protect the

(01:07:40):
end of the island. And wesat right there and smoked the flounder.
You know what I mean. Butthey're not targeted. Right, there's you
know, the guys that are trollor the guys buying all these medic and
stuff. You don't see that inBeaufort, you right don't. So it's
not you know, if you're samplingBeaufort, it may not show you as
good as sample. I don't know. But there's so many people fishing inland,

(01:08:04):
not right at the ocean. Youthink about you think about Paulay's in
Lytchville and Merles Inleant. You've gotimmediate feed off the ocean. But you
got to Buford, man, you'vegot inland salt water for this. You
know thirty miles Well, we knowSouth Carolina is we know that. Sorry,
I got my bones making noises throughthere, but we know that South

(01:08:27):
Carolina is we're an exception, wellmore so the northern coast is redfish is
the number one game fish salt water. We know that, yes, but
I want to say here it's flounder. It probably is in merls Inland,
I would agree with. I wouldsay merles Inlet, and even north going
to Cherry Grove, I would say, and those places should be very important

(01:08:50):
on the radar for dn R.Well, sure, I mean I think
that's something that is close to theproximity of North Carolina that would seem to
me to be the appropriate place todo your Yes, exactly, it shouldn't
be if you're going to get data, I mean, wouldn't you rather get
it where people's If that's how you'regetting your data is going through individuals at

(01:09:10):
the boat landing coming in you checkit on well, they they do that,
you know, I mean you've seenit around. Oh yeah, we
get a Bridget Yeah yeah, Imean everybody knows Bridget by name. Now,
you know they know on a that'sjust such a small fraction of what's
going on. Thank you. Youknow, it's cool they're doing that,
but I mean you're only touching sucha small amount of one percent maybe that's

(01:09:34):
what I'm thinking. It's got tobe like that. And what we're talking
about is the number of people thatget sampled or surveyed when they come back
to land from being out fishing, and the fact that it takes ten to
twelve to fifteen minutes to do dosurvey a boat, and how many boats

(01:09:55):
come out of the water and goright past them while they're surveying that one
boat, you know, and earlsin it. What if you picked that
one guy that just doesn't have luckor has no bat, so you get
numbers from him, and you've letten guys go by you that that know
what they're doing, that catch fishthat there's got to be some equation in

(01:10:18):
there that that balances out accuracy inthat survey. Well, the thing about
it with you know, being onthe Marine Advisory Committee, you know,
we used to hear all the datafrom from these guys they're doing the research
and excuse you get a shot here, got a shot. Yeah, but

(01:10:44):
you used to get the you getyou get the surveys and and got you
got to see the numbers that wedon't get to see. Yes, we
would see the science and they thescientists are very controlled in the way they
do things, and they want torepeat the same thing over and over,
which is why they did a tramon net. It's like and one y'all
back. They historically look at alocale repeatedly, over and over and over

(01:11:13):
and over and over and over againand over years, you get a trend.
You can see what's going on.So, but I don't know if
they're doing that on the north themfor flounder, I don't know, if
they haven't right for old studies todo that, well, I don't know,
but you know, they'll look atwhat you mentioned earlier, that the

(01:11:35):
good flounder guys, who the goodguides that are good flounder guys. It's
anecdotal, you know. It's it'sjust they don't take that. That doesn't
come into their equation, into theirinto their numbers. It just doesn't.
I mean, they do take ourreports. There's one resource. What they
do in their own is a resourceof what they do when they you know,

(01:11:57):
do the surveys in the REMP right. So anyway, we discussed that
and you know, trend and thatthey showed us did not show any improvement
in the flounder numbers. That's whatI saw Thursday. Well, I'm just
having a hard time believing it becauseit just seems to me from the people

(01:12:18):
that fish for them all the time, that they have some praises about this
new change. And while it wouldhave just been nice not to see any
changes made, and let that firstoriginal change that we made five years,
six years ago, let it giveit, give it ten years before you

(01:12:40):
start making changes. We made changeswithin two years. There were three years
of that regulation change. But didthe same thing with the Feds on the
red snap Oh my gosh, thisred snapper in it was the same thing
in d C. And I wentup to the rally up there and I
was with you, and then Iwent to the those public hearings as they

(01:13:01):
call them, which they means you'regoing through the motions. We're not listening
to anything. We're not listening. We just got to make sure we do
this because we're required to. Yep. And you know you had captains that
I'll take you to them. No, we're not doing that. I'll take
you to the red snappers. Okay, you know we're not doing that.
So you know, we all wantto do what's right. We all want

(01:13:25):
to have a good resource. Wewant to preserve it, but you know
it's science that is gonna have todictate that. Let's just make sure we
got good end, good out yep, and I've got scuba divers. I
know that said that they would loveto go down and go count fish for
them. They can pick spots andlet them send down there and let them
go count the red snapper. Redsnapper is way off, like way off.

(01:13:49):
And again I want to I wantto tell you if you'll go find
Trilogy Outdoors on all your podcast platformsincluding iHeart, go listen to my podcast
with George Pavoromo. This week wedid talk about that and sharks. Okay,
sharks are a issue. Sharks arebecoming an issue. And I don't

(01:14:09):
care whether you're in the Bahamas, whether you're off North Carolina where, whether
you're off New Jersey. Sharks havebecome a problem. Maybe we can get
Chef Richard to come up with agood recipe for sharks. Yeah, exactly,
well we hey listen sharks. LikeGeorge said, he said, shark
fin soup is starting to taste betterand better now, but it is a

(01:14:30):
problem. Georgia was filming the thirdepisode of this year that just aired and
they made a trip ninety eight milesacross to the Bahamas. Had plans of
fishing for two days. One daythey were going to control for pelagics and
everything else, and then the otherday they were going to bottom fish and
do some deep dropping. And theday they were trolling, they got into

(01:14:53):
yellowfin. They had lost six fishto sharks and they quit. They pulled
the lines in and left. Hesaid, I felt like I was doing,
wouldn't detriment be you wouldn't need thesharks exactly. I was. I
was laying out to the buff aprilthe sharks. So sharks are bad.
And then you talk to everybody here. They're losing black pan tuna after black
pan tuna to the sharks off shoreof here. But there's no commercial fishery

(01:15:16):
for shark now, and the samething on inshore. The same thing is
going inshore. That came up inthe discussion on Thursday night. Yep,
oh he did. Yes, Yeah, y'all are using y'all are having a
nightmare with red red fish. Imean the black tip sharks. You know,
they'll gnaw them off one the gillplate, and you know, twelve
pound fish, no sweat. Imean the mouth on that shark is a

(01:15:40):
foot wide. Yep. I meanhe could take the meat off your thigh
without any effort whatsoever. So,I mean, this isn't a creek,
so it's even problement. They're starup and fishing in the inlet. I've
seemed so thick you could sightcast whateverspecies you wanted. You could have sightcasted
it. No, I want tocatch that brand because they were all there.
Yep. I mean, it's unbelievable. How many sharks we've got.

(01:16:01):
Well, I'll tell you what's everybody'splans. Don't know how many sharks we
got. What's everybody's plans for today? Anybody going out to I know
we talked about this. Nobody's goingto see Trump, are they? You're
going fishing. I'm going fishing.Fred's got a charter. Tony's got to
go work on a car. I'mgonna work. You're going to sell a
boat, going hopefully sell a boat. But I'm gonna work till three o'clock

(01:16:24):
and then the boys are gonna havethe boat ready and we're gonna go fishing.
There you go, You're going tothe river, going to the river,
I'm gonna go to the ocean.Hey, it's muddy and high,
just so you know. Oh yeah, there's your report. There you go.
I think I'm gonna go to theocean. I'm gonna take my niece
and nephew. Well, excuse me, my niece and her boyfriend who just

(01:16:45):
drove all the way back from Georgiaagain to come spend the weekend. I
think I'm gonna take him out.He suffered Sunday morning through miserable cold weather
and did not have the right clotheswhen he came to town. So I'm
gonna take him out there. Theocean's supposed to be flat beautiful today.
So I think we're gonna go rightback to where I was yesterday and put
that life scope down and go checkit out, and go see if I

(01:17:08):
can get them on some sheep's headand black drum. Ronald Stallvey at Stallby's
beaten up, excuse me at inletRocks, beaten tackle. Ronald is loaded
up with shrimp. He just gotten thousand shrimp in. I saw that
post ten thousand. Did you seethe life You see the beat wells ten
thousand shrimp in? And I knowhe's loaded I know our good friends at

(01:17:29):
Perry's Beaten Tackle are loaded as well. So if you want to get out
and enjoy this great weather this weekend, we're gonna touch seventy Yes, seventy
five is what I'm looking That's whymany shorts. Yep. Well, I'm
gonna take my race buddy Chris Hucks, and we will go try to see
if we can't crawl up some redfood. That's right. Well, listen,
best of travels, safest travels toyou. I know you're heading down
to Daytona to go enjoy race weekand have fun down there. Man.
