Speaker 1 (00:12):
Baking, poking, and thinking, thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
What is up?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Everybody? Welcome into the Triple Brand Show Shato, Happy New
Year to those that are celebrating. I am your host,
Jeremy Lapitis. It is a big, big day in sports.
We'll be taking you through all of the biggest news
as we do every single Tuesday. A new starter at
quarterback for the New York Giants, Jackson Dart has finally
(02:13):
been named the starter after a bad game from Russell
Wilson on prime time on Sunday Night Football. We also
have to go over every Tuesday or Tuesday Top twenty
five College Football. The new Top twenty five pole, the
Triple Threat. Top twenty five poll has officially dropped. You
can check that out all over our social media's. We
(02:35):
are everywhere. Make sure you check us out there. We're
gonna talk about Jackson Dart, We're gonna talk about NFL
winners and losers, and we're gonna touch on the MLB.
The playoff race heating up, six ish games to go
for everybody right about now. A couple teams can lock
up their spot tonight. A couple teams are choking away
a spot in their playoffs. A couple teams that we
(02:55):
thought had no shot are clawing their way back in.
Shout out the Reds, Shout out the Guardians. How about that.
We'll talk about all of that later on in the show,
but we're gonna start off with the biggest story in
sports today. How about Jackson Dart. It's Darty time, everybody
in New York. Jackson Dart, the first round pick twenty
(03:16):
five overall the Giants traded back up into the draft
to get him, will make his regular season starting debut
against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. This comes, of course,
after an abysmal game for that Giants offense. I think
what really took Russell Wilson in It's gonna be the
way that they handled that last drive, the last drive
(03:36):
where they had to get back within this game, twenty
two to nine, Giants have the ball in the red zone.
Russell Wilson throws it away out of the end zone
three straight times, including on fourth end goal. Russell Wilson's
a veteran, he should know better than that. That is
honestly unacceptable. But the real reason that this move is
happening now, which I'm not necessarily opposed, let me preface
(03:59):
this before I go too far deep into my statement here.
I think it's good that Jackson Dart is getting a
chance to start in New York. The Giants, fans, and
the Giants as a whole, the whole organization desperately needed
an influx of youth. They desperately needed an influx of talent.
And you saw that with how excited the fans got
on Sunday Night football whenever Cam Scatibow touched the ball.
(04:22):
You saw it with how they were chanting to put
in Dart when Russell Wilson came back in the game,
whenever you know, Jackson Dart had his couple of plays,
his couple of packages that ended up always being runs.
He's yet to throw a pass. But Jackson Dart was
ready on the sideline. You saw him whenever the cameras
cut over to him. He was doing mental reps, calling
the plays. He's ready to go. Brian Dable likes him,
(04:43):
and that that, my friends, is the key for why
this is happening right now. If I were in charge
of the New York Giants, if I were making all
the decisions, Jackson Dart would start in Week five against
the Saints, The Giants have famously the hardest football in
schedule this year. There's not in all of the NFL
this year. Right, there's not really an easy spot to
(05:04):
drop a rookie quarterback in. Right, you finish these first
three games, got the Chargers, but the Saints in Week
five are probably the easy landing zone where I put him.
But following that game, it's not easy. How about Eagles
on primetime, Broncos, Eagles on the road, then the forty
nine Ers, then the Bears who have a pass rush
of their own, the Packers with Micah Parsons, the Lions,
(05:25):
who we just saw what they did to Lamar Jackson,
the Patriots Week thirteen, and then a bye week. Right,
you can keep going. This schedule does not get much easier.
There is simply not a very cushiony spot to put
Jackson Dart in this game. But let me tell you
against the Chargers, a defense that was the best scoring
defense in all of the NFL last year. The Chargers
(05:47):
who have been a menace to all the quarterbacks they
faced this season. Right, we're talking about a Chargers scene
that we saw what they did to Gino Smith, who
is a veteran We saw what they did to Patrick Mahomes,
who's arguably the greatest quarterback in the NFL right now,
and they just shut down bon Nicks. Again. That is
a defense that is playing out of its mind, getting
pressure on every single quarterback, getting their hands up. You
(06:09):
don't want to take that out on your rookie quarterback.
You don't want him to go in and have his
confidence ruined. Now that being said, I don't think Jackson
Dart is going to be awful. Jackson Dart. The one
thing that we saw from preseason, and again it's preseason,
so we have to take everything that we see with
a grain of salt. But the one thing that we
saw in preseason with Jackson Dart is his ability to
(06:32):
take that quick read. That was his thing in college.
He was a one read quarterback and even when he
wasn't making those one reads. The other thing that's so
impressive to me about him and the thing that made
me feel like he could be something in the NFL.
I was low on him coming out of the draft.
I didn't think he was worth a first round pick.
But his ability to stand tough in the pocket is elite.
(06:55):
That's his elite trait. His ability to stand tough in
the pocket. If he wants to make a throw, he
will take the hit. And that's not necessarily a great thing,
right You don't want your quarterbacks taking these massive hits.
But on his first ever touchdown pass in the preseason,
the one that really put him on the map, he
throws a deep ball down the sideline, a beautifully placed
(07:15):
ball to little Jordan Humphrey, and he gets popped. He
gets popped in the pocket right on the release. He
still steps into the throw. He's not afraid of contact.
That is huge. The main reason this move happens, though,
is because Brian Dable is trying to save his job,
because Joe Shane is trying to save his job. This
is the last straw, and let me tell you they've
(07:39):
got one more trick. I know everyone's saying they don't
have another trick in the book, but Brian Dable's not
calling plays. If he gets really bad after this, Brian
Dabel is going to take over the play calling, which,
by the way, I think you should do Anyway, I
think he's gonna do a better job at calling plays
than the offensive coordinators doing. I just generally don't think
the Giants coordinators are doing a very good job, but
(07:59):
there is a lot to hope for in New York
City tonight. Jackson Dart making his first professional start on Sunday,
It's not gonna look good. As much as I want
to sit here optimistic as a Giants fan and say
that he's gonna be able to force the ball to
Melakue Neighbors, which Milik Neighbors should have seen the ball more.
They should have drawn up plays formerlite neighbors more. But
(08:19):
the Chiefs were double triple teaming him. There weren't options.
This is going to be the first time in over
thirty years that the Giants have a rookie starting quarterback
and a rookie starting running back at the same time.
Of course, Tyrone Tracy goes down with a shoulder in Jay,
and we saw what happened when Cam Skataboo got in
the game. He is a walking, massive CTE and he
(08:41):
is a bundling ball of energy. He is just fun
to watch on the football field. His energy is just contagious,
and that's exactly what a bad Giants team with not
a great schedule ahead of them needs. As well, you
had talks of Dexter Lawrence potentially quitting on the team.
You cannot have that happen if you are the Giants.
He is the best player to walk through the door
(09:03):
of that Giants organization in a very long time. You
cannot let him leave. You need Dexter Lawrence happy. That
defensive line has looked really good. The defense as a
whole has looked solid. It's not necessarily a top five unit,
but it's looked really good. I like what we saw
tos some corners. Drew Phillips needs to not you know, hold,
not take these big pass interference penalties, but they're forcing mistakes.
(09:24):
Patrick Mahomes, who's one of the best at getting away
from pressure just with his Mahomes magic, I guess, was
under pressure all night from that Giants rushing four. That's impressive,
that's good. I don't think that a lot of other
quarterbacks in the league would have been able to pull
the stuff that Mahomes did out of the pressure that
he was feeling in Sunday night football, which is why
(09:46):
that game was close. So if Jackson Dark can provide
a spark of offense, and I've said this all off season,
this is a Giants team. I've said this all season
as well. This is the Giants team that is not
very good, right, this is the Giants team that I
predicted to go three and fourteen. But this is a
Giant team that if they can consistently put up twenty
seven points a game, they're gonna win a lot more
(10:06):
games than they lose. They're gonna play this tight because
that defense is so good. So as long as Jackson
Dart shows you something and he does not have to
win games again, people don't expect him to win games,
But as long as he shows you something that can
save Brian Dables' job, that can save Joe Shane's job.
Although I think Joe Shane should be gone anyway. He
hasn't been the greatest GM. But I'm here for keeping
(10:26):
Brian Dable around. But the real big story Jackson Dart
to be the starter. Like I said, he's a guy
with plenty of weaknesses, but he's also a guy with
a couple of strengths. We've been over the strengths, but
now we got to talk about the sad. So the bad.
As much as I don't want to talk about the bad,
you have to talk about the bad. You have to
cover both sides. Here, Jackson Dart not very good when
(10:47):
he has to get off of his first read. He's
got the legs, He's a little bit more mobile than Russ.
He's gonna be able to take those spots. But we
have to see if he's gonna be willing to take
those checkdowns. Know what's smart not put the ball in
Harm's way. We don't know if he's going to be
able to do that yet. He's got a very good arm.
I don't want him to just force it up to
Mylik Neighbors as much as I want Milik Neighbors to
touch the ball from the Giants more. He needs to
(11:09):
be targeted at least five times a game, minimum targeted
five times a game. If the Giants are going to
be anything this season at all, you need to make
sure that Milik Neighbors is in the game plan that
he is targeted. I don't care if he's double covered.
Quite honestly, throw it into that tight window. Russell Wilson
was putting the ball into Harm's way enough as it is.
Put it in harm's way when you're throwing it to
(11:30):
Milik Neighbors. Just take one shot to him. He can
make something happen. He's arguably the third best receiver in
the NFL, easily a top five receiver in the NFL.
But hopefully a new starting quarterback can make this team energized,
make this offense energized. Jackson Dart isn't going to be
the big key in this game for the New York Giants, though.
(11:51):
The big key is going to be how their offensive
line goes. When Andrew Thomas is not in the game,
and he was on a snapcount on Sunday Night Football,
that offensive line gave no time for Russell Wilson even
when he was in the game. The right side of
the line give Russell Wilson no time. You just need
to give Jackson Tart enough time to find the pass
he likes because, like I said, his elite talent, the
(12:11):
thing that's going to make him an NFL quality quarterback
is his ability to stand tough in the pocket, take
a hit and still step into the throw. That is
not easy to do. We see so many great quarterbacks
try and run away Lamar Jackson last night. Not stand
tough is not necessarily a bad thing that you can't
stand tough. But when you can stand tough, when you
can make those plays when you can take those hits,
(12:34):
it is incredibly impressive and I cannot wait to see
how it goes for Jackson Dart and New York. That
makes this game a game that I was thinking of
taking for Survivor, a much more of a toss up.
You don't know what's it going to be like for
Jackson Dart. It could be more of the same in
New York, where quarterbacks don't necessarily go too well. But
the first game that Danny Dimes stepped in he won
(12:54):
in Tampa. The Giants put up forty five points. That
is an influx that could get you going.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Now.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
That didn't last forever, of course, but still, Jackson Dart
stepping into this game I think is gonna be huge.
I again would have waited until the Saints' Week five
so he doesn't get blown up. He starts against what
is a relatively easier offensive line to go against, but
still against the Chargers. This means a lot. This is
going to make or break next year for the Giants
(13:21):
if Jackson Dark can step up and be that guy,
if he can show you something. There is a real
shot that Brian Davill returns, and there's a real shot
that the Giants don't have to trade up or really
reach on a quarterback that isn't really there in this class.
There could be some, but if you're not picking at one,
there's not really a true guaranteed guy. Right now. There's
a lot to see, a lot to like about Jackson Dart.
(13:44):
I'm excited it's Darty time over in New York. Something
to look forward to in Meadowlands, in MetLife Stadium. In
the Meadowlands. There hasn't been something to look forward to
in that stadium for a very very long time. And
now we get at Jackson Dart starting quarterback for the
New York Giants against the Chargers. This one should be
a lot of fun. I will say, I'm glad that
(14:05):
they're doing this at home. I'm glad that they're making
this a home game, which I think is probably why
they didn't wait until the Saints. That's gonna be a
packed house. Jackson Dart Chargers Week four should be a
game appointment television. But let me know what your thoughts are.
I really am curious. Do you think this is too early?
Like I said, I would have waited one more week,
but it had to happen at some point. Russell Wilson
(14:27):
was not the answer. Honestly, I might have considered Jamis,
but you can't do that if you're trying to save
your job. That is a nothing burger of a move.
That's just you want to go have some fun. But
maybe Jamis gets traded. We'll talk about more of that
later on coming up next. Here for you guys, we're
gonna go over our college football Top twenty five. May
(14:48):
Rob will Hop on the show with us coming up soon.
We'll get his thoughts on Jackson Dart. But don't turn
that dial, don't go anywhere. We'll be right back here
on the Triple Threat Show talking some Top twenty five
on Tuesday, Triple Thread Show, be right backs. Welcome back
(17:55):
to the Triple Threat Show. I am your host, Jeremi
la Petis. Today is This is Tuesday, September twenty third, Shanato.
Happy New Year to those who are celebrating. If you're
just tuning in, we just finished going over Jackson Dart,
the brand news starter for the New York Giants. That
is going to be a big, big story to watch.
(18:18):
We're gonna get into our Tuesday Top twenty five, as
we do every single Tuesday, the top twenty five teams
from around college football, just like the AP, except better
because the AP is wrong all the time, and we
hear the Triple Threat Show, We're never wrong. Famously. You
can also check us out everywhere around the Internet. You
can find us on Instagram at Triple Threat Show. You
(18:42):
can find us on on YouTube excuse me at Triple
Threat Show, Twitch at Three Threat Show, Instagram at Three
Threat Show, Underscore, and TikTok at the Underscore Triple Threat Show. But,
like I said, we're gonna hop right into our top
twenty five here. Before we do, though Group of five
Top five. We track the top five group of five
(19:04):
teams because one of them is going to be playoff
bound and we need to know who that is. We
need to know who could potentially pull the biggest upset
off in college football, a group of five team winning
a playoff game. It's never happened yet could be this year.
So yo, let's go through our G five T five,
the group of five Top five for you. Let's start
(19:27):
with the honorable mentions JMU falling off the list after
a big win versus liberty, couple teams just hopped above them.
Boise State in North Texas also just off the list here.
North Texas having a really, really good season in the American.
The American has a real shot of having two bids.
That's crazy to say. We talked a little bit about
last year, but that's crazy to say. At number five, though,
(19:49):
we're going with UNLV. UNLV has just looked really solid
all season. Dan Mullen's team is going They know how
to win these games. It hasn't been necessarily against the
greatest competition, but they've we got a couple big games
coming up. That's when they'll really get tested. Navy also
here they fall down a spot, but that's just because
a big team made a big jump to number two.
(20:10):
Two lane stays near the top here. They're always gonna
be a Group of five contender. They've got a real
good quarterback, Jake Retzlov, formerly of BYU. That's a big
get for them. They had a tough loss to Ole Miss,
but I still believe this is a really good two
lane team and losing to a top fifteen team overall
not necessarily a bad thing. Number two a big big jump.
(20:32):
How about Memphis. They take down Arkansas, they take down
Taylor Green, that's a big win for the American. This
is why we're talking about a potential two big league,
two big league for the American Memphis and to Lane.
Those two teams very good threats every single year. And
at number one it's still USF. The Bulls have maybe
the most impressive resume thus far. I know they lost
(20:54):
to Miami, but Miami is a true powerhouse, arguably the
best team in all of college football. USF their sole
loss is to them, and they've dominated two other teams
that were ranked Florida and Boise State. USF remains the
favorite to come out of the group of five right now.
But that's from technicalities. Let's talk about the true top
(21:17):
twenty five teams in all of college football. We had
three teams drop out of college football Top twenty five
this week. That's South Carolina, Auburn, and Illinois. All of
those teams still in the just missed categories the honorable
mentions along with BYU, Mississippi State, USF, and Memphis. Those
are the teams that just missed. For me, here six
(21:39):
teams could not quite find their way in at number
twenty five, a team that was not in here before
USC The Trojans get a big win over Spartan. Right there,
the Trojans beat the Spartans a game they were expected
to win, but it showed me what USC was. I
wasn't super convinced with them, but I am a big
(21:59):
fan of what they've done. Now USC officially back officially
here on the raidar. They're back in the top twenty
five for me at twenty four, I've got TCU. How
about a big win for TCU over SMU. The Mustangs
not quite the same playoff level team that they were
last year, but still a really really solid team. TCU
as that win, they have the emphatic primetime win over
(22:20):
Bill Belichick and UNC. Big un beating those three letter schools.
TCU finds their way into the top twenty five at
number twenty four. Michigan back into the top twenty five
for me. Big win again, A big win pushes your
chances right up there. A big win over Nebraska. The
Cornhuskers could not quite get it done against Michigan, and
(22:42):
they find their way all the way up to number
twenty three. Those are the three teams that are replacing
the teams that fell out, now teams that stayed in
the top twenty five. For me, and this might be
a hot take. I know they're only receiving votes. Louisville's
at twenty two. I'm a big fan of this Cardinal team.
They're a team that I think has maybe the best
running back in the country and Isaac Brown. Louisville is
(23:02):
going to be a big problem for teams that are
not ready to deal with their rushing attack. Miller Moss.
While he's a statue in the pocket, he can deliver
if he's not under pressure. Twenty four to seven, they're
still undefeated. I'm going with the Louisville Cardinals at number
twenty two. They're up two spots. Utah stays in the
top twenty five. They're here at number twenty one. Utah
(23:23):
downed four spots from last week after a tough loss
to Texas Tech. Their offense shines of concern. Texas Tech
a real good defense, so I'm not gonna punish them
too harshly, but that's a real concerning sign for Utah,
Who's kryptonite last year was having a really bad offense.
They didn't have a quarterback. We thought they had a quarterback.
Utah did not show up in a game that was
(23:44):
a potential big twelve title game preview. They're gonna really
step it up, and that offense really needs to show
out as they finish up, as they excuse me, as
they get started into Big twelve play at number twenty
here we are going with tennis se Joey Aguilar has
this team going. How about that yet another game scoring
(24:05):
over fifty points. Joey Aguilar has been everything this team
needed and more. They only lost this season for Tennessee.
Of course, they lost to Georgia in overtime. I didn't
think Tennessee had that offense in them. That defense still
a little bit concerning. I'd like to see more, but still,
this is a Tennessee team that's a real threat, a
dark horse out of the SEC. As long as they
(24:25):
continue to play like that. Behind Joey Aguilar potentially throwing
himself into Heisman conversations with I think is really insane
getting into the top twenty. Here, we've got Iowa State,
a team that I kind of want to drop out
of the top twenty five, but they haven't done anything
to make me fall out of them. The Cyclones still undefeated.
(24:47):
They have course won that game in Week zero in Dublin, Ireland.
They beat Iowa in the Syhawk Bowl. In Iowa win.
That's looking even better after a strong performance last week
Iowa had against Rutgers. Iowa State team is winning, but
they're not winning super convincingly. Because of that, I don't
want to punish them. They were idle last week, right,
(25:09):
but I had to move them down a couple spots
because there were a touple couple teams that I thought
just deserved to be ahead of them. One of those
teams that I do think deserves to be ahead of
them is Notre Dame. I know Notre Dame has two losses.
Throw spikes at me, roast me over a fire, right,
that is where I'm dying on that hill. Notre Dame
has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and CJ. Carr.
(25:30):
That defense needs some work. But again, look at the
teams that they've lost to. They lost by one point
to Texas A and M. That's the top ten team
in the nation. They lost by one score, just one
score to Carson Beck in Miami, who, again, I've said
it before, I'll say it again, arguably the best team
in all of college football. Those are two really quality losses.
I know, quality losses. Are in a thing, and I
(25:52):
know Notre Dame does not quite have that remaining schedule
to vault themselves up. But they have a big game
against USC, a rivalry game, the USC in the top
twenty five. If they can win out win that game,
they might find their way into the playoffs. Missouri up
above them at number seventeen. I'm a big fan of
this Missouri team. How about Ahmad Hardy, maybe the best
(26:15):
running back in the nation. Him and Isaac Brown I
think are going toe for toe over there. But this
is a better Missouri team than last year. I'm a big,
big fan of what they've done. I love how they've
been able to get out of the mistakes they made
last year. A little bit of dropkick kickoffs. Always fun
to see. Missouri up three spots to number seventeen. Georgia
Tech stays put after a forty five to twenty four
(26:37):
win against Temple. They showed us what we expected to see.
This is a dominant team that's a real threat in
the ACC coming off of a big win over Clemson,
although that wins starting to age not so great, kind
of like their win over Florida State last year. But
still Georgia Tech still here at number sixteen. I really
think this is a true playoff ish level team out
(26:57):
of the acc ole Miss falls a spot. They dominate Tulane,
a game that I thought would be a lot closer.
They're down to number fifteen. Again, it's nothing they did wrong.
It's the fact that other teams looked better. Ole Miss
is not a team I'm super convinced of. Right. They
got a big win over Arkansas, but Arkansas now they lose,
of course to Memphis, That's not necessarily a great, great
(27:21):
win anymore. They looked a little shaky in a close
game against Kentucky, although Kentucky's a team that's always given
them fits. I'm just not super sold in this ole
Miss roster, this ole Miss team. They're at fifteen for me,
still a really good spot, but they fall a spot
for me. Vandy also falls a spot. They put up
seventy on Georgia State. But again, nothing they did wrong.
It's more the fact that other teams I think deserved
(27:43):
to rise. Same thing with Alabama, who's up here at
number thirteen. Alabama was idle this week. They have a
massive game against Georgia this weekend. That's maybe game of
the week. Although you also have Penn State Oregon, so
that could potentially be game of the week. Alabama Georgia
always delivers, though. I think that's a bigger game. They
have a chance to move all the way up into
the top ten. But now we have our two big risers.
(28:05):
How about Texas Tech and Indiana. Those two teams went
on an absolute tear those two teams did. Texas Tech
shows out that transfer, portal classes, everything it was hyped
up to be against Utah thirty four to ten victory.
They're up six spots. But not to be outdone. How
about those Hoosiers, a football school under kurtz Signetti. How
(28:27):
about that? We love kurtz Signetti over here. Kurt Signetti
brings the Indiana Hoosiers to the playoffs last year in
his first season in Bloomington. Now he moves them up
twelve spots with a sixty three to ten swomping of
Illinois and Illinois team that was rated in the top
ten number nine. Sixty three to ten over Illinois. Wow,
(28:50):
Indiana is much better than last year. They're a more
complete team. They've a better quarterback in Fernando Mendoza. That
is going to be a scary team. And you know what,
I think they might be able to beat Penn State
this year. I know Penn State is a team that
generally beats up on I won't say inferior competition, but
(29:10):
everybody other than Ohio State and Michigan, and I guess Oregon.
Now that Oregon is in that Big ten, but Indiana
a real threat if they keep playing like this, let's
get to the top ten. Though. Over here Texas kicks
off the top ten. They haven't necessarily looked the greatest,
but they don't need to look the greatest. They're playing,
(29:31):
you know, lesser opponent right now. They have to win
these games. Fifty five zero over Sam Houston. I'm really
impressed with that defense. I need to see more at
an Arch again. They didn't move down because they did
anything wrong. They moved down because other teams moved up
ahead of them. Speaking of those teams, Oklahoma with a
big twenty four to seventeen win at number twenty two
(29:52):
ranked Auburn, they're up into the top ten at number nine.
They passed their arrival. The Red River rivalry is going
to be good at accept Heisman. Front runner John Mattier
goes down with an injury. He's gonna miss a month
broken hand, broken finger. Excuse me, that is not good.
Oklahoma needs their heisman front runner. They're only in the
(30:14):
top ten because of him. Without him, I'm a little
worried about them. Oklahoma has a little bit of an
easier schedule in the four weeks that he's projected to miss,
but Texas is among them, and that's not gonna be
fun for Oklahoma if they end up losing the Red
River rivalry because their heisman favorite quarterback is going to
miss a month of football. At number eight, how about
(30:36):
FSU a real redemption story for them. FSU goes out
there and they just continue to dominate, sixty six to
ten a win over Kent State. Again, that one doesn't
move me too much, which is why they're not moving
at all. But Florida State's still a dominant, dominant team
and they're a real real threat in the playoffs. I
think they're a team that could potentially go all the
way if Castiano keeps playing like this. At number seven,
(31:00):
we're going with Texas A and M. They were idle
last week, but again, a big win over Notre Dame
continues to push them this high. And I really like
them if they can continue to win games like that
one at Notre Dame, which is a game they usually lose.
Also idle last week was Georgia, but like I said,
game of the week against Alabama always a good one.
When Georgia plays Alabama huge this week. Both of them
(31:21):
off a bye, they should be ready to give their
bist and brightest for this game. Oregon stays at number five.
They dominate their rival in Oregon State forty one to seven,
as they should have. Oregon State not necessarily a great
team this year, but they got the job done. Oregon
big matchup versus Penn State this weekend. LSU stays at
(31:42):
number four again fifty eight to ten, a big win
over Southeast Louisiana. LSU Garrett Nusmeyer needs to play a
little bit better. I know he's dealing with a little
bit of injury, but putting up fifty eight points is
not that bad. I'm happy with them. They stay in
the top five. Penn State also stays at number three.
They were idled, didn't do anything wrong. They got a
big game against Oregon. James Franklin needs to prove that
(32:03):
he can win the big one this is the test.
This is a Penn State team that's returning a lot
of production. They've over three thousand yards total between two
running backs that are coming back. They have Drew Aller,
a guy that took this team all the way to
the semi finals in the College Football Playoff last year.
They need to show that they can win big because
this is the year that Penn State's supposed to do it.
(32:24):
If it's not this one, I don't know when they're
really ever gonna get it done. That keeps us out
our top two team I keep saying it. Miami arguably
the top team in all college football. They get a
twenty six to seven win over Florida. A little bit
of a turnover problem for Carson Beck. He needs to
clean it up a little bit, but it didn't matter.
That defense stepped up. That's been super impressive for me
to see Florida just about eliminated from the playoffs without loss.
(32:46):
Miami gets a big win, stays at number two, and
that means at number one for the fourth straight week.
Really everything other than the preseason Ohio State. They get
that win over Texas and they haven't looked back. That's
not to say that they're going to be easy all
the way through. They've got a couple of tests and
they haven't necessarily looked their best. But Ohio State stays
(33:08):
at number one. Four. Now, let's run through a top
ten real quick. On our Triple Threat Tuesday. Texas falls
one to number ten, Oklahoma up a spot to number nine.
Everyone else stays the same Florida State at eight, Texas
A and m at seven, Georgia at six, Oregon at five,
LSU at four, Penn State at three, Miami at two,
and Ohio State at number one. I'd love to hear
(33:32):
your thoughts. Where am I right? Where am I wrong?
Let me know in the comments. But we're gonna take
a quick break. When we return, we take a look
at the winners and losers from NFL Week three. A
lot to talk about, special teams went crazy? How about that?
A lot to love and more that's coming up next
May Rob joins us next on The Triple Threat Show.
(36:42):
Welcome back to the Triple Threat Show. I am your host,
Jeremy Lapidis. If you are just tuning in, you missed
out on our Triple Threat Tuesday Top twenty five in
college football. We went over the top twenty five teams
in college football, as you might assume with such a
really clever title as that one. We also went over
Jackson Dart. It's Darty time over in New York City.
(37:05):
The Giants starting their rookie quarterback. It's gonna be a
lot of fun against the Chargers in Week four at home.
Should show out for a crowd over there. But joining
us here is may Rob Fittemi. He is ready to
talk some NFL with us. We're gonna go over our
winners and losers. May Rob. There is a lot to like,
(37:26):
a lot to dislike about the NFL. But I want
to start off with one thing in particular, which I
think was the storyline of the week, Special Teams. Special Teams.
May Rob was the true big winner of the week,
and we talked about it heading into this season, right
We talked about how big of a deal special teams
is going to be this year with the fact that
the kickoffs were moved up to the thirty five, or
(37:48):
I should say touchbacks moved up to the thirty five,
with the fact that these guys are even more talented
at making field goals than ever before. But we're seeing
in ways that I didn't expect, only seeing the kickoff
and big kickoff big punt returns. Of course, the Commanders
had a couple of big ones. Deebo Samuel set up
a big field goal at the end of the half.
Jalen Lane scores a big touchdown Tory Horton ninety five
(38:11):
yards to the house against the Saints. Right, big big
plays by the special teams returners, but the field goal
blocks especially, that is a massive piece of what's going on.
Two two return for a touchdown, including a game ender
against the Rams. In that Eagles game, they blocked two
(38:32):
straight field goals on the same exact hash by Joshua Cardy.
That's just really good design by the special team coordinator
for the Eagles. The Browns block a field goal that
leads them to the biggest upset of the NFL season
thus far. They of course have a Jets blocked field
goal that returns for a touchdown. Baker Mayfield pulls out
some Baker Mayfield magic, and a couple other games that
(38:53):
ended on some walkoff kicks, including the Cardinals losing to
the forty nine Ers. The Browns win on a walk
off kick just touched on the Buccaneers, who also won
on a walk off kick by Chase McLaughlin. There was
a lot to likee from special teams this week, and
they are by far the biggest winner, may Rob. There's
just so much that's important about and really ever changing its.
(39:14):
NFL defenses have kind of been figured out. NFL offenses
has kind of been figured out. You can only innovate
so much. But where it's the real wild West right
now as special teams, and we're seeing these guys shine
and show why these are a true third side of
the NFL football.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
It's winning a game. What the Eagles did against the
Rams was unbelievable, flat out unbelievable. The last play of
the game, three seconds left, the Rams are getting ready
to kick a game winning field goal. Eagles not only
block it, but score a touchdown for I don't want
to get into this side of things, but whoever had
the Rams plus three and a half, I am so
(39:57):
so sorry because you were three seconds away for getting
that deal done. That was a crazy game, though, the
Bucks being put in jeopardy from the Jets block field
goal that went for a touchdown. The Jets were down
what twenty seven to six or something crazy in that
game came back that field goal for a touchdown made
it twenty eight to six, and it took Baker Mayfield
(40:17):
magic like you brought up to get that win. Another news,
another guy that I really like personally, I'm going to
talk about the Seahawks really quick. Tory Horton showed up
in a big win. Tory Horton, big time Tory Horton.
He's a guy that's flying under the radar big time
right now, and he's a guy that if you're not
paying attention to him in fantasy, get ready because he
is a big time name that we got to keep
(40:38):
our eye on. Other than that, just special teams in
general has been crucial across the board, field goals, kick returns,
blocked kicks, everything. Brandon Aubrey we saw last week kick
a fIF fifty six yard field goal to win a game.
Across the board. It's huge and they're the number one
winners for me as well this week. Crucial crucial part
(40:59):
of the game.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
Yeah, Like I said that is that is a part
of the game that's really ever evolving ever since the
new kickoffs came back. The last thing that really needs
to be figured out for special teams that really no
one has. Someone needs to figure out how to be
really good at on sidekicks. Once they figure that out,
it's gonna be game over for just about anybody. But
that is not an easy one to practice and not
(41:20):
an easy one to master. Another team. Another big winner
for me may rob a team that I thought was
a big test, right, the biggest test It was the
Lions lot That was a Lions team that I didn't
think really stood a chance. We saw them against the Packers.
They got absolutely destroyed. That was my litmus test for
(41:43):
a good team. Monday night was not about the Ravens.
It was about the Lions showing up getting everything they
needed to dismantling that Ravens defensive front. Who I will
say in their defense missing Nadi Madabike, that is a huge,
huge loss for them. He is one of the best
defensive in tiers or your tackles in all of the NFL,
and him not being there is probably why they were
(42:04):
able to run so much. But still, Penney Sewell had
an absolutely dominant game. The Lions as a whole had
a dominant game. Monty and Gibbs both scored two touchdowns.
They are that stack going around now. Eleven games as
a duo where they both get into the end zone,
most in NFL history. So much to like about that
Lions game, so much to like about the Lions as
a whole. They really showed me something. We'll talk about
(42:27):
it tomorrow when we get into our NFL tiers, but
they might have jumped up into Super Bowl contention after
a game like that one.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
Yeah, no doubt about it. The Lions looked unbelievable. They're
my pick. They're now my pick. I know we talked
about this off chat, but I think they're my number
one pick to make it out of the NFC right now.
They're my pick to win the whole Super Bowl right now.
They're the best team in the NFC. The way that
the Packers looked, and I know that's what you just
brought up the Packers with how putrid they looked against
(42:58):
the Browns. They couldn't muster any off, They couldn't get
anything going offensively outside of Josh Jacobs, who's been an
absolute monster all year long and for the last he's
got what eleven touchdowns in a row. Now, he's an
absolute monster. They do lose out on Jayden Reid with
a fractured foot, but or with a broken collar. Bonet,
(43:18):
excuse me, but the addition of Matthew Golden, the wide
receiver that they drafted this year in the draft. I
think he's going to be a big time addition. Michael
Parsons is still there with Shuan Gary, the Packers are
still there. But the Lions. How good that run game
looked against the Baltimore Ravens this past weekend or our
Monday night, I should say the NFC has a lot
(43:39):
of problems and the Detroit Lions run game is the
number one issue.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Let's go rapid fire here. I got a couple more winners.
Will go, winner, me, winner you Coming up next? I
want to start off with Isaiah Rodgers playing by PFF,
the greatest defensive game in the history of the NFL,
ninety nine point nine rating, the highest anyone's ever gotten,
in the highest rating you can possibly get by PFF.
Isaiah Rodgers with a pick six. Isaiah Rodgers with two
(44:07):
forced fumbles. He returned one of those for a touchdown.
Two touchdowns for Isaiah Rodgers a cornerback is insane. But
it's not just him, it's the Vikings as a whole
and really, Kevin O'Connell. Everybody on the Vikings were winners
today other than JJ McCarthy. Kevin O'Connell shows that he
is a guy that can coach up just about anybody.
We have Carson Wentz leading this team to forty eight points. Granted,
(44:31):
I will say granted against the Bengals defense, against a
atrocious unit, but still, Carson Wentz is six teams starting
in six seasons in NFL record, just won a game
by putting up forty eight points. And Isaiah Rodgers just
had maybe the best defensive game in the history of football.
The Vikings and the Lions and the Packers all in
(44:53):
that division. Ooh, that's a real tough one over there,
the Vikings really as a whole. But mostly shout out
Isaiah Rodgers, big, big winner of the.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
Week, no doubt about it him Isaiah Rodgers. And shout
out Jordan Mason, a guy that started the season as
a backup behind Aaron Jones, has showed up. We saw
what he did last year with the San Francisco forty
nine Ers. Comes out this season burst outs onto the scene.
Has a couple of good games, had a great game
against the Chicago Bears, and then this past weekend against
(45:24):
the Bengals one hundred and sixteen yards rushing touchdown as well.
Just a great overall player. Anybody that stashed him in
Fantasy great move for you guys. That was a big
time move. And I think he's gonna be the He's
gonna be one of the better young running backs and
for the next few years. He already earned himself I
think a contract extension and we'll see how far he
(45:47):
can take this, how far he can get this going.
I think he's a great running back that has a
lot of promise.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
Yeah, no, there's definitely a lot to like. He had
a real good season over there. My other big winner
here for you. How about this Indiana Jones? How about him?
He continues to show up, show out and win games.
Through this Indianapolis Ats team, there is a lot to
(46:13):
like in out them.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
I just want to.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Shout out Daniel Jones getting it done, continuing and screens
it against a tight statement. Still has now three straight
weeks where they have continued to win. Fit shout out
to the points and then down to the table down
at the table three touchdown, nothing they'd get to.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
He has been a monster all year long. If there's
a guy that deserves most improved right now, it is
Jonathan Taylor. With the way he's performed for the first
three year. He has what almost five hundred rushing yards
now through three games. He has to because what Week
two he had one hundred or four games, Week three
had what one hundred and sixty five yards. He's had
at least one hundred yards in three games now, So
(46:56):
he's an absolute monster.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
League winner, the league winner for real, league winner. Absolutely
a last winner I've got for you, may Rob, and
then I'll spit it on over to you. Caleb Williams
looked really good. I know we spent a lot of
time in this winter segment, spending it in the NFC North,
but Caleb Williams looked really good. For the first time
in his career, and crucially, for the first time in
(47:21):
his career, he took zero sax. Big game for Caleb Williams.
We saw that Ben Johnson offense really get going. I
think if you give Ben Johnson a lead, he's going
to be able to do magical things. With Caleb Williams
as an athlete, we saw him hit those tough throws.
Luther Burden on that flee flicker that almost got blown
up because DeAndre Swift just did not toss him back
(47:42):
the ball in time. You know what, it didn't matter.
It worked. We say that connection with him and Romo
Donze really really stepping up. I'm a big, big fan
of that. But the Caleb Williams that we expected out
of USC is starting to show up. And I know
it's against the Cowboys and everybody can do that against
the Cowboy, but still, Caleb Williams looked a lot better
this year, and we need to give him the credit
(48:04):
he deserves. He's not necessarily going to be this transcendent
talent that everybody wanted him to be, but still he's
showing us a lot and he's gonna be a real
good quarterback in this league.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Caleb Williams. Shout out Luther Burton.
Shout out Luther Burton, the guy that got drafted, hasn't
had a whole lot of reps. But then goes for
that unbelievable flea flicker against the Cowboys. But that honestly
kind of jumps straight into our losers here, the Dallas Cowboys.
What is going on in Big d The Giants roll
(48:38):
up in there, drop thirty seven points on you. Russell
Wilson throws for a four hundred and fifty yard Sorry,
I don't want to harp on to your team, Jeremy
right now. I know you guys are down, but it
is dark season, like you mentioned earlier. But the Cowboys
in general, that defense looks atrocious. They can't get pressure
on the quarterback. They can't stop a cold deron Bland
and Trayvon Diggs on that back line look like look
(49:01):
like Swiss cheese. Look like looks like I could. I
could be a wide receiver. Have Jenreman the Peters be
the quarterback. We'll run. We'll run the field back and
forth all night long and drop forty two. That's the
chemistry that we have together. Like that's that's just how
bad the Cowboys defense is. It really is that bad.
(49:21):
So big big win for the for the Bears, especially
after getting demolished by the Lions. Big momentum Booster Case
and Loveland as well, big catch for him early on
that game. Nice to see him get going. But Cowboys terrible,
terrible showing from Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
Yeah, sticking with the losers category here. I got a
couple of quarterbacks, a couple young quarterbacks from the same
draft class we touched on the Vikings dominance. But JJ
McCarthy's a big loser. My big conspiracy theory is that
JJ McCarthy got benched because of poor performance. I don't
think he's super injured. Now I'm never gonna actually put
there's no fact behind that. I'm never gonna be uh.
(49:58):
You know, they really hate JJ McCarthy. But Kevin O'Connell
after a bad Sunday night game, after a bad Monday
night game against Michael Pennis junior comes out with an
injury that nobody really saw. Doesn't really matter. JJ McCarthy
could be back. He will be back eventually, but he
was a big loser with this week, with the way
that that Vikings team played without him. And also Michael
(50:20):
Panis Junior, that guy that beat him and basically benched
JJ McCarthy. He just got absolutely destroyed by the Panthers.
The Panthers. He got destroyed by the Panthers, a defense
that I think is better than people give him credit for.
But thirty to zero against the Panthers, you get benched
for Kirk Cousins against the Panthers. This is not good.
(50:41):
I think Michael Panics gets his job back. I think
it was a quick little thing. Get get right. They'll
figure it out. But still that is not not a
good look for Michael Panis and those two are big
losers of the week for me.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
Yeah, it might be another situation of what Bryce Young
went through last week or last year with the Panthers.
He got benched and what happened with the Panthers in
the second half of the season. They turned it up,
and this is why we're looking at the Panthers as
one of the better younger teams in the NFL right now. Now,
is Bryce Young playing the way he did in the
second half of the last season. No, But is he
playing better than he did in the first half And
(51:17):
has he done much better substantially better than what he
look like at in the first half of the season
before he got benched. Absolutely, And I think that was
a great momentum booster f him. Sometimes this is what
these young players need. Sometimes it's just a kick in
the rear just to wake up, just chip up a
little bit and move on forward. That's just sometimes what
(51:37):
they need. And this is one of those situations. For
Michael Pennocks. Maybe I still like this offense. He just
needs to be a game manager. That old line does
need to get a little bit better so he doesn't
get hit as much. But I mean, you still have
Drake London, you still have Kyle Pitts, you still have
Bjon Robinson arguably the best running back in the league.
Do I think that this is the end of the
road for Michael Penix. No, But sometimes sometimes it just
(52:00):
happens and he just needs to take a seat and
wait for his turn. Once again. I don't think this
this is gonna be very long because I don't like
Kirk Cousins, and I don't think Kirk Cousins is the
answer by any stretch of the imagination. This is just
a temporary hold for Pennix to get his uh you
know what I'm talking about together, get his life together,
get everything going on together. I'm ometting a word because
(52:21):
we keep a family friendly here, family friendly here on
the Triple Threat Show. But yeah, this is He'll be fine,
don't stress it.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
We keep it going. I got I got one more
quarterback for you, and we kind of touched on it
in the segment one. Russell Wilson a big loser. Look,
it's not just because he got benched. It isn't just
because he got benched for Jackson Dart, a rookie. It's
the way that he played this game. He was under
constant pressure. That's fine. He put the ball in Harm's
way a million times. But if you're Russell Wilson and
(52:50):
you're gonna put that ball in Harm's way, put it
in harm's way when there's a Molik Neighbors in the area. Look,
that's all I ask. I don't care. I know people
were saying, and I know he wasn't open give the
ball to Milik Neighbors. I understand camp k skataboo. Fun.
When he touches the ball, he's just a bundle of energy,
and everybody loves it when he touches it. He just
does some crazy every single time. We love that. But also,
(53:14):
and the real, big and excusable part, the real reason
he's down here on that loser's side of things. That
last sequence, his last time starting in the NFL, that's
my hot take. His last sequence on the field atrocious.
You get down to the goal line, you take a
what was a really really weird what's it called intentional
(53:36):
grounding on a throwaway whatever. Then you throw it away
three more times, including on fourth down. As a veteran,
you need to understand it's fourth down in goal. I
don't care if it's fourth down and fifty four. You
cannot throw the ball away. You cannot say I give
up on the play. I'm not giving you anybody a shot.
Fourth down, you say screw it. Malik Neighbors is somewhere
(53:58):
in the area and you toss it up to him.
At that point in the game, a fourth down in
completion is the same as an interception. It does not matter.
Throw it up. I don't care about your stat line.
That's the real reason he's a loser. That was unacceptable.
That was an unacceptable way to end his game. That
was an unacceptable way to really end his career as
a starter. He's gonna be a valuable veteran. He's gonna
(54:20):
be a backup. But I don't think he ever touches
down as a Week one starter ever again in the NFL.
After that.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
I don't see it either. Mister Unlimited is done in
the NFL. It seems, mister Unlimited, It's just it's over
for Ussel Wilson. I love him. I loved him in Seattle.
He had some good spurnts. I won't not talk about
the Broncos. Definitely not with the Broncos. Didn't didn't do
too bad with the Steelers. But this is the end
(54:48):
of the road for Ussell Wilson. This was his last
trip and his backup and now Jackson Dart. You said
it was gonna be Jameis Winston. I always said, is
it was gonna be Dart season before Week five? Unless
I knew you were a little bit optimistic. And I
know you've dealt with some rough, some rough young quarterbacks
over there in New York. But I think he's the answer.
(55:08):
I think he's a great He has a lot of promise.
Throwing the ball, running the ball, he looked really good.
I think he has a lot of promise, and we
just got to give an opportunity to grow. But as
for Russell Wilson, this is the end of the row.
Nine points against a really pretty maybe not really bad,
but at least mediocre Chiefs defense that, outside of Chris Jones,
doesn't have a whole lot to work with, and you
(55:30):
have Malik Neighbors down the field. You don't throw it
to him. And then you mentioned that last drive on
the goal line, when they throw the ball four times,
well four times in a row at the goal line,
throwing it away on fourth down. Just can't do it,
cannot excuse it, and just you can't. It's not much
else to say.
Speaker 3 (55:49):
Yeah, I got one more loser for you, may rob
and I'll let you finish off this segment here with
anything you want to go over. It's Derrick Henry Ravens,
but more specifically Derrick Henry. Derek hen for the first
time his career, has fumbled in three games in a row.
Derek Henry in two of those games, both on primetime,
has fumbled in a key moment in their own territory
in primetime with a chance for them to drive down
(56:11):
and make a big play, and he clearly is distraught
about it. Right, we saw them cut over after that.
We saw them cut over after he fumbled and he
was throwing his helmet. He almost hit himself with his
own helmet, almost got hurt. After that. It was not good.
I believe Derrick Henry can bounce back, but it wasn't
just him that Ravens offensive line got devoured by the
pass rush of the Lions. They couldn't get anybody opened downfield.
(56:34):
Lamar Jackson sacks seven times. That is a career high
for him. They had over five yards a carry against them.
Seventy two yard run the longest run in the NFL
this year by David Montgomery against the Ravens. This is
a Ravens team that's stout against the run a lot
of the time. They could not stop a cold, they
(56:56):
couldn't stop a breeze right now. It is absolutely atrocious
the way that the Ravens played, especially against the run,
when you knew that they were gonna run it down
your throats because that's how the Lions get it done.
But it didn't matter. The Lions were just too good.
The Ravens fall to one in two. Now they get
a date with the Chiefs at Arrowhead. The loser of
(57:16):
that game goes to one in three May up. That
is not okay. One of those teams. The loser of
that game probably is going to miss the playoffs. Now
maybe that's a little bit of an overreaction, but if
the Chiefs lose that game, I think they missed the playoffs.
That division is too good. If the Ravens lose that game,
they can maybe claw their way back in because the
(57:37):
division really isn't that scary, But you cannot fall to
one in three. The noise, like I said, is going
to get louder around John Harbaugh if it hasn't already
with the way that this Ravens team has been playing.
Speaker 4 (57:51):
Yeah, this is this is why that game against the
Lions was so crucial. Not only did you give up
two hundred and thirty rushing yards to Gibbs and Montgomery
and I love Monty, He's that's one of the best
to one to two punches in the league in terms
of the running back position, if not the best. But
for the Ravens to look as good as they did
(58:14):
in Week one, even though they lost his Bills, as
good as they did in Week two when they demolished
the Browns, and now this that performance was atrocious at
home against it. Not only it was a good it's
a good Lions team that's ready to go, but the
Ravens are one of the better teams in the league defensively.
(58:34):
Makes Terrell Suggs to feel awful. Ray Lewis, the guys
that built that defense. Ed Reid the guys, all those
guys that built that defense look like I don't even
know the word. I just really bad, really really bad
stuff over there in Baltimore. And you gotta feel for
(58:55):
Derek Henry because he is one of the best. But
somebody's got to teach Lamar Jackson how to throw the
ball away. That's That's the only thing I gotta say.
And remember Day Flowers is on your team. You don't
got to just throw the ball to Shot Bateman. Even
though Rashaan Bateman's good Zay Flowers is still on that
team and he deserves some more love. That's all I
gotta say that. John Howard Brough's jaw is definitely in
jeopardy right now. But the Ravens are a really really
(59:19):
tough spot in it, going up, going up, coming up.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
In a.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
Tough tough week, coming up.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
Stick Around Triple Threat Show returns with some baseball talk.
It's been a bit since we talked some baseball, but
let me tell you, with about five games to go
on this schedule, it is heating up over there around
the diamond. A lot to talk about, including a change
tonight in the standings in the Al Central. We'll talk
(59:47):
about that and much more as playoff races heat up
around the MLB. That's coming up next here on the
Triple Threat Show.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
Speak as does speak, as does speak speaking as dole
(01:00:37):
as the speak as does not speak as does speak
(01:00:58):
speaking speaking speak as based as speaking as does speak
(01:01:33):
as does speak speaking speaking, speak speaking, speak as the
(01:01:54):
bast As.
Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
Welcome back to the Triple Rats Show. I am your
host Beer. If you are just tuning in, you missed
a lot. We talked all about the NFL winners and losers.
We talked all about the college football Top twenty five
on a Top twenty five Tuesday here at the Triple
at Red Show. And of course the breaking news. Jackson
(01:02:49):
Dart named the starter for the New York Football Giants.
A lot of big news on this sports Tuesday, but
not a lot bigger than pennant chases, not a lot
bigger than playoff races, not a lot bigger than what's
going on in the MLB right now. We're gonna start
off with the breaking news may Rob coming out today,
(01:03:11):
the Cleveland Guardians. How about the Cleveland Guardians. They have
come all the way back from twelve and a half
games down just a month ago to now be tied
with the Detroit Tigers. The Detroit Tigers team that was
on fire, but now that fire has completely faded away,
(01:03:31):
their coals have fallen to embers. This is an absolute
choke job from this Tigers team. The Guardians have won
sixteen of eighteen games. May Rob They've won sixteen of
eighteen games. They are now on top with a tiebreaker
over Tarik's schoo ball and the Tigers. A huge win tonight.
(01:03:52):
They are in the playoffs, and the Tigers, let me
tell you, could find themselves with a real reel outside
looking in kind of situation that is huge in the
Al Central right now, a couple more games to go
in that series between the Guardians and the Tigers here,
(01:04:12):
They've got one more game tomorrow, but we have to
see how exactly that's going to go before we make
any big decision. Excuse me, two more in that series
that is basically going to decide the division. Huge, huge
series going forward, a big win for the Guardians, who,
like I said, have won sixteen of eighteen games. Down
the stretch, you want to get hot at the right time.
(01:04:34):
Guardians are showing you how to get it done. But
this is just an absolute unbridled collapse from the Detroit Tigers,
who are one to nine. They've lost seven straight games
to get to this point, and a couple of huge,
huge games, including being swept by the Guardians a couple
of weeks, not even in a couple weeks literally last week,
and now a second series. They've lost four straight to
(01:04:55):
the Guardians. They need to figure out how to beat
this team, and they need to figure out how to
do it fast.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
A couple of game two games to run decisive. The
Astros play later dash games Las night. They jumped finds
a ball that happened to Tiger looking into the rock
(01:05:23):
on the outside. Is that basic? This is a set
No one was here.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
You would probably have.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
Small but Tigers one and nine in the last ten
and that's one games and condition that want to play
really early and mid August.
Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Tiger the favorite to win the.
Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
FO Yeah, that's not only the only division that's close
right now. The Yankees just a game back of the
Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays who have already clinched
(01:06:19):
the spot in the playoffs, so they'll be fine, but
they just lost to the Red Sox. Here Yankees beating
up on the White Sox right now, pretty good spot
for them to be. These teams don't play each other
out of the AL East, but that is the way
that this division is going. The AL is an absolute
barn burner, a huge race between really all of the
top two teams in the division. The Red Sox should
(01:06:40):
make the wild Card. Shout out your Red Sox may
rob but Yankees looking to win that division. That's one
of the toughest divisions in all of baseball right now?
How do you see that one playing out?
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
Good? The Tiger captain, this is really a race to five. Yeah,
we're talking about the games and mentions a play.
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
I can get that seriously.
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
From the nick on themselves in the fashions in that
lace tiding situation. At the moment, the Ages are down
to once once. Actually why they came back from one
of that coming spent two months Frival nine have been
a big time from the Age and now Sing nine
(01:07:40):
while the Jaws will be a one game difference between
my updates happening right now. I think the Nuts and
obviously think they do. I think the rep Dos pat.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
Yeah, I think the Red Sox probably find a way
in as Yeah, you talked about it. That walk off win.
The Yankees actually just clinched a playoff spot with that,
So shout out to the Yankees. They just found their
way into the postseason with that walkoff win over the
White Sox. But that's not the only division race that's
coming down to with the Maritors, much like the Guardians
Red red Hot, they won fourteen of their last fifteen games.
(01:08:31):
They just came off of a sweep of their division
rival Houston Astros. They're now up three games. That three games,
that's that sweep right there. They were tied heading into
that series. That was a huge series, and now the
Astros are on the outside looking in. The Maritors should
win that division. They've got three games upcoming against the
Colorado Rockies, then they have the Dodgers. But we don't
(01:08:54):
really know how those last series really go. It always
changes the Astros. On the other hand, Oh that Dinastro's
team that is not playing great baseball right now. They
lost a crucial, crucial series to the Diamondbacks. Like we
excuse me. To the Mariners, like we were just talking about,
they finish off with the Athletics than the Angels, so
(01:09:15):
they have an easier schedule than the Mariners, but they
are in a tight race. They need to make up
either three games in that division or they need to
find a way to outplay the Boston Red Sox. The
Tigers slash the Guardians. Now that in that wild card
race for the AL that is quickly becoming a real,
(01:09:36):
real tough one for everyone outside of the Yankees, who,
like I said, just clinch that division spot. The Mariners
(01:10:29):
clinch tonight with a win and a Yankees win, So
the Yankees won. They just need to win tonight and
they clinch. They find their way in. But that Houston
Astros team playing with fire, let's talk. Let's talk about
that wild card a bit, because we've touched on it
a bunch. But there is one game, one and a
half games, i should say, separating the Astros and the
(01:10:50):
Boston Red Sox. The Tigers sitting right smack dab in
the middle, and you can throw the Guardians in there
as well, who are tied with the Tigers at eighty
five and seventy two. The Red Sox won game up
on those two teams at eighty six and seventy one. Again,
five games to go left in the MLB season, and
the Houston Astros, the Houston Astros half a game out
(01:11:11):
of the playoffs right now. They need to get their
stuff together. They need to figure it out. But the
way it's going right now, if the Tigers can't figure
it out, it looks like they're going from a lock
to be the one seed to missing the playoffs. And
that's the way I'm projecting. The Tigers just cannot buy
a win. Like we said, seven straight losses for the
(01:11:31):
Tigers one and nine in their last ten games, and
if you go even further than that, it has been really,
really bad. They have not won a series since September ninth, tenth,
and eleventh, where they beat the New York Yankees two
out of three times. But even before that, that is
the only series win, the only series win that they
(01:11:55):
have had since August twenty second. It's been a month
and they've won one series. They need to figure that
out immediately. Otherwise they are finding a way out of
the playoffs, and they're doing it in rapid, rapid fashion.
Not something I really thought I'd ever say about the
Tigers heading in to the final stretch of baseball. But
they're the odd man out looking They're looking like the
(01:12:17):
odd man out to me. Hmm. They had a rise
(01:12:49):
like this at the end of last season, so I
guess water kind of finds its level. But this is
not a good look for the Tigers, and for a
team that had Real World Series aspirations at the All
Star Wars, real World Series aspirations at the trade deadline.
This has just not been the way that they wanted
it to go. Let's quick head over to the NL.
There's one division race that I want to talk about,
(01:13:10):
and then we're gonna get into maybe the most heated
race of them all between the Mets and the Reds
in the wildcard spot. There the Diamondbacks in there as well.
They're only a game back. But let's talk about that
NL West. A team in the Dodgers, that I thought
might be the best team by record in MLB history,
are now in a tight battle with the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers and the Padres have both clinched, but the
(01:13:32):
Padres only two and a half games out of the
NL West. They don't play each other for the rest
of the season. It's going to be a barn burner
to see how they make it through because the Padres
want that division crown. They want to beat their big brothers,
the Dodgers. They can't give it to them. They can't
have it like that. The Dodgers can't come into the
(01:13:53):
season with the expectations that they did and they cannot
not win that division. It would be unacceptable. It is
a borderline fireable offense if they don't win the division
against the I'm serious, it's a borderline fireable offense. If
they don't win the division against the Padres, they have
a two and a half game lead, they have the tiebreaker.
They can win it if they just win three more games.
(01:14:17):
But I don't know if that's something they're going to
be able to pull off right now. Yeah, but let's
(01:15:24):
talk about that wildcard race real quick in the NL
because it's really heating up. The Mets currently hold on
to it by half a game over those Reds. Right
then you have the Diamondbacks who are right behind them,
the Reds, who have won six of their last eight games.
They claw all the way back into their face. They
were four games back just a week ago. In this one.
(01:15:45):
The Mets have been atrocious as of late. They go
through these stretches where they just can't win a baseball game.
They just drop a series to the Washington Nationals. Tough,
tough look for them. They win a series against the
San Diego Padres, but before that they had not won
a series, including losing a series to the Cincinnati Reds
earlier on in September, leading to a near ten game
(01:16:09):
losing streak for them. They've been ice cold like the Tigers,
and they are also at high risk of falling out.
But let's not forget about that third party, right, Let's
not forget about the Arizona Diamondbacks, a team that's sold
at the deadline, very similar to the way it went
for the Tigers last year. Now are getting hot down
the stretch. They have been consistently just nipping at the
(01:16:32):
heels of these teams that don't really want to get
into the playoffs. The Mets, they're finding their way into
this race, only one game back. Like I said, they've
got a tough schedule. They're playing the Dodgers and then
the Padres, so that's not easy. But they've just taken
down the Phillies in two out of three games in
the series. They can find their way, and the way
I'm reading it, it's probably gonna go to the Mets.
(01:16:55):
But this is a tight, tight race and that final
Wild Cards thot is going to be the most important
game when it comes down to it at the end
of the season in about a week. That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:18:22):
Yeah, this is gonna have to be a daily updated situation,
no doubt about it, for sure, for.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
Sure, but that is something that we'll focus on tomorrow.
We'll see the way these games go. We'll talk a
little bit to Nolan tomorrow about his Detroit Tigers as
well as as well as of course the m excuse me,
the NFL tears our NFL Power Ranking segment. Every single Wednesday,
we'll have a little bit of a May Rob minute,
big stuff going on in basketball all around the league
(01:18:49):
as they heat up at Basketball season kicks off in
almost in just about two weeks, so we're gonna be
excited for that. We'll do a playoff prediction episode for
that and for the NFL coming up soon. Be right
for all of that and more on the Triple Threat Show.
Thank you for tuning in and we'll see you tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
Bye bye.
