Go ahead and give us a follow over there. But
it is a busy day in sports. The MLB trade
deadline officially come and gone, and what a wild trade deadline.

(01:37):
It was one of the busiest ones that I can
remember really in my lifetime, at least in the last
five or ten years. Not too many massive names, but
just a flurry of trades all over the league, especially
for arms winners and losers. Here, may Rob, I'll let
you pick. Do you want to start with the bad,
the good, or the ugly.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Let's start with the good. Let's start on a good note.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
He let's start with the good the winners here. I've
got a couple of winners to go over, and there's
a couple of those that I'm kind of on the
fence about. I threw one of those into my winners slot,
and that is the Yankees. In theory. I like what
the Yankees did. They fixed that hole at third base right.
They bring in Ryan McMahon, They bring in Amed Rosario

(02:23):
to fill in that hole. They also add some short
stuff depth with Anthony Vulpi really struggling, bringing in Jose
Cabalio in an in game trade from right across the field.
But then they addressed the need. They did not quite
get the starting pitching, but there wasn't a lot of
starting pitching available on this market. They go in and
get Camillo Davol from the San Fransco Cisco Giants as
an absolute flame thrower, and Jake Burt, who's been really

(02:46):
good undercover for the Rockies this season. I like all
of those moves, but the fact of the matter is
they didn't really get the best guys available. There were
a lot of relievers out there that we saw go
We talk about Mason Miller, we talk about Ryan Helsey,
we talk about guys like Johann Durant, Right, these are

(03:07):
guys that have been elite. The Yankees didn't get them.
They also didn't address that starting pitching need, and I
don't think they got the best third min third basement right.
They could have got out and gotten Josh Naylor if
they wanted defense. Excuse me, Iohanio Suarez, if they wanted defense,
they could have gone out and gotten to Brian Hayes.
There's a lot of things they could have done with

(03:28):
this Yankees team. But I don't necessarily think they were
the biggest winners. But they addressed all the needs and
I think it helps them a lot. So for now
I'm tentatively putting them in the winner's column.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Yeah, Jeremy, I feel bad we're starting on this. We're
starting to show kind of in a little bit of
a disagreement here. And this is not just because I'm
wearing the Red Sox hat. Seriously, I am not as
much as I'd say that the Yankees. I will say
the Yankees weren't active during the trade. That's something that
we haven't really seen from them in past years, where

(04:03):
they were really active this year in the trade deadline.
The one thing as much as they fulfilled that bullpen,
they strengthened that depth. They got a bunch of arms
and they got that right. They got Ryan McMahon to
fill that third base hole. Two things they didn't like
you mentioned. They didn't finish the starting pitcher. They didn't

(04:23):
fix the starting picture hole, missing Garrett Crochet and spring
training when he got injured. Haven't fixed that. And on
top of that, they still haven't really fixed that bat.
They that bat that they've been missing. As much as
you love Aaron Judges as well as he has played,
and he has played phenomenal this year, MVP caliber season

(04:44):
from him, you can't just rely on him. And that's
the biggest thing that I'm looking at with this Yankees team.
They really, they really really desperately needed another bat in
that lineup, and they got Amed Rosario hitting two seventy five,
just five homers this year, not really too much of
a power hitter, but being able to get on base,
which is really good for him. But I'm looking at them.

(05:05):
I was really looking for them to get a guy
like a Eugeno Suarez, somebody like a big time bat
that could not only hit home runs, but can just
hit the ball period. I was looking at them to
make a big time move like that, and that was
It feels like that's a big hole for them in
the rotation since they lost Juan Soto in the offseason

(05:27):
as well. Overall, I just I feel like a lot
of lateral movement for the Yankees. They may sneak into
the playoffs here, they're in a tight race in the
Al East right now. I still think they sneak into
the playoffs, but in terms of winning a playoff series
or getting close close to returning to the World Series,
I don't think this helps their those hopes very much.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, you talk about the teams around them, and when
I look at a winner, really I just look at
didn't help you in the playoff race. And you're right,
it's a lot of lateral movement. But I think the
Yankees are a better team now than they were before.
Are they gonna catch the Blue Jays? Maybe?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Maybe not.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
That one's up for debate, right, But in that wild
card race, I think they've kind of solidified themselves. As
long as Aaron Judge is able to stay healthy, right,
The Red Sox will get to them later. They didn't
do anything right the Seattle Mariners got a lot better,
but they're two. There are two teams behind them, right
The Rangers got better. The Guardians sold the Royals, they
got better. The Rays sold the Angels. I don't really

(06:28):
think they're gonna do anything. The Twins sold their entire team.
We're getting way down in the bottom of this race
right now. But I think overall the teams that are
trying to solidify a playoff spot as long as they
stay healthy, this is the Yankees team that at least
clinched a wild card spot right now. I can't really
see them falling any further than that third wild card

(06:48):
spot right now, which puts them in a winter spot.
But like I said, it's not a resounding w it's
a lot of well, I guess that was an okay move,
but it's better than nothing. It's better than some team
that just sat on their hands and wanted the world
and when they didn't get it, they didn't do any
that's right. May rob the Boston Red Sox. Another team

(07:09):
that I thought had a really good trade deadline, but
also I could see you going the other way was
the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies really only acquired one guy
Johann Duran. I think he was the best arm that
got moved at this deadline. He is a guy that
is just an elite closer, an elite back end guy,
and they needed that. The Phillies did. They were relying

(07:31):
on a guy in Jordan Romano who had a high
six er to be their closer. That is not how
who anyone you can rely on. Now, if I'm the Phillies,
I would have liked to get more. I would have
liked to get a Greg Soto, a Taylor Rogers, Ryan
Helsey as well, like the Mets did. I would have
liked to get a Camillo Doval like the Yankees did.
I would have liked to maybe even get a Mason
Miller like the Padres did. Right, There's lots of names

(07:54):
that I would have liked to get, but they got
one that I think is absolutely worth it. Johann Duran
is gonna change the way that team goes, especially with
an offense as good as the Phillies. If they have
a closer they can rely on. This is a Phillies
team that I like in the playoffs. They're my fourth
winner here, just ahead of the Yankees, but also in
that category that's did they really do enough? You know

(08:14):
what I mean?

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, Honestly, with how busy the trade deadline was, it
just looked like the Phillies didn't do too much. And
of course, I honestly personally forgot about Johann Duran just
because of how busy it's been over the last thirty
six hours or so it was early on in the
trade deadline. When I look at the Phillies, I mean,
as much as we would love them to get some

(08:37):
help for Bryce Harper and Nick Costianos in that lineup,
to get another bat in there, I mean that closing
that being able to get a closer like that is
big time for them, especially how we remember them what
happened to them in the playoffs when they just pretty
much kind of crumbled late in those games against the Mets. Overall,
I like what they did. I think they made some
good moves. I just really think I think we're gonna

(09:01):
get to this later as well. I'm worried about what
the Mets did because that might it's gonna be a tough,
tough NL East series moving forward to close the season.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, you talk about the nalyast, and I do have
the Mets on my list here as winners. They absolutely
killed this deadline. You talk about how much you like
Cedric Mullens. He had some really good outfield depth for them,
But really the big key for them is the addition
of those three elite back end arms they already had
Edwin Diaz. That is now a deadly, deadly foursome in

(09:32):
that bullpen. If one guy needs a rest day, you've
got three other guys you can turn to. Ryan Helsey.
One of the best pitchers that got traded at the deadline.
Gregory Soto is probably the best setup man in the
all of baseball, and Tyler Rodgers is no slouch either.
He not only is a very good pitcher, but is
going to completely change the way that hitters have to
play because of his submarine arm angle. It is a

(09:53):
completely It's a different style of pitching, and it changes
the way the hitters get to watch the ball. It
makes the timing off and everything, and it makes it
very hard to hit. It's hard to do well, which
is why we don't see too many submariners out there.
But when you have one, wake Tyler Rodgers, he's an
excellent get for them. Not really as a closer, although

(10:13):
he can absolutely close for you. You've had a lot
of other options there, but as just a change of
pace and elite change of pace. Guy, I love that
get for the New York Mets here. I think they
have kind of solidified that division. I know it's gonna
be a tight race with the Phillies, but I do
think the Mets had a better deadline and a deadlock
tie with these two teams. I think whoever won the

(10:35):
deadline was gonna win this division. We have a lot
of time to go left in this season, but you
talk highly of the Mets, I think they had a
really really good deadline. They're the first of my true
winners of this deadline.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
No doubt, Jeremy, I'm right there with you. The Mets
absolutely crushed it, and you didn't even mention one of them.
You mentioned the pitching, you didn't even get to the hitting.
Not only do you have Pete a Lonzo sitting back that,
you get Juan Soto in the offseason and before the
trade deadline, you add a thirty year old monster and
Cedric Mullins from the Orioles to that team. This is

(11:10):
a team in the Mets that's not only going to
put up runs against you, but you're gonna have a
absolute ball trying to get runs back from them in
this with that bullpen. I think it's going to be
a phenomenal. It's been a phenomenal trade deadline for them,
and I think moving forward, I really love what the
Mets did and watch out for them. They might be

(11:30):
the deadliest team coming up soon in the NL.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Now Van Nil is gonna be a bloodbath for sure,
and when we get deeper into the season, we'll do
a little bit of a preview. But you talk about
a lot of teams very heavy at the top, a
lot of those at the top of our power rankings.
Another team, I thought he did a very good job
stip switching over to the al side on here. How
about the Houston Astros. I didn't expect them to be
super big at this deadline, but they go ahead and

(11:56):
they get Carlos Korea, who hasn't been the greatest for
the Twins this season, but returning back to his glory
days in Houston, he now joins a team that has
a five game lead over the Mariners in that division.
They also add some power with Haesu Sanchez. We've seen
a Hazu Sanchez addition to a World Series caliber team workout.
In the past, he won World Series MVP with Atlanta

(12:18):
the year that they went down and won the World Series,
a very similar situation deadline acquisition. I love this move
for the Astros. I know there's a lot of concern
about the way that they've played to at certain points
this season, but with that elite pitching, you get Jordan
Alvarez back. Eventually you add now Carlos Korea and Hazu Sanchez.
That is a deadly deadly lineup and I love what

(12:40):
the Astros did at the deadline.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, I think they really need to make a big
move here. I think they could smell the Mariners kind
of going after the Gino Suarez trade. But I guess
we're absolutely going to be covering this as well coming up.
But when we're looking at the Astros, they definitely needed
to make a move. They add Carlos the Ad Sanchez.
They also add a guy in Ramon Eurias, who's a
little bit of a sneaky move from them from the Orioles.

(13:06):
I really like that move for them big time. Infielder,
I think that he plays good, he plays good defense,
he's a good he's a decent he's a pretty good bat,
solid utility guy for them, and I think this is
a dangerous Astros team. This is probably the NLS. The
AL West and the NL East might be the two
best divisions in the MLB right now, as crazy as

(13:28):
that sounds, the most competitive ones and probably the closest
ones as we enter the final couple months of the
MLB season before the playoffs. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
No, there's lots of good in both of those divisions.
I would say, don't sleep on the NL West, but
you have the Rockies there, so you know you can
only take so much. There's two teams left for my winners,
and I think these two teams rose above everyone else
at the deadline. I don't know about you, but the
Padres and the Mariners were those two teams that I

(13:58):
thought were one B at this deadline. Obviously, the Mariners
got the two massive pieces Josh Naylor and eu Henio Suarez.
They fixed that corner infield spot both of them, which
they desperately needed. And now they have a lot of
very good pop in that lineup, Josh Naylor, Ennio Suarez,
cal Ralely, who is forty two home runs already this

(14:19):
season we saw Julio Rodriguez really take off after the
All Star break and Randio Rosarina. That's five guys in
the lineup that you love to see. JP Crawford at
the top having a really really good season. You're getting
Victor Roblaze back, who was really good with them last year.
That's a solid lineup to pair with a really good
pitching staff. I think this is a Mariners team that

(14:40):
could be dangerous and what is honestly a really really
weak al this season. I think they could make a
lot of noise in the playoffs. The Padres on the
other side do what they always do. AJ Preller said,
hold my beer, this is my World Series, this is
my super Bowl. I'm going to get it done. He

(15:01):
pulls off an insane trade and one that I'm not
sure how how it's going to age. They trade Leo Davrees,
who is the best international prospect they consensus top ten
prospect in all of baseball, for Mason Miller with four
years of control and JP Sears. They also get Ramon
Loriano and Ryan O'Hearn. All of those moves very good.

(15:24):
I love everything that they've done. They get a couple
pitchers as well do the Padres, but Mason Miller is
the big one. He is an elite closer. He hasn't
necessarily been as great as he was in prior years
this year, but he is someone that I've heard rumors
the Padres believe can return to being a starting pitcher.
And if you get Mason Miller to be a starting

(15:45):
pitcher for your team, that is insane value. Now it's
yet to be seen because if Leo Devrees turns into
the guy that a lot of people expect him to,
people are calling him the Michael Jordan of baseball, right like,
that is insane compare. So that's a big risk. But
this is what aj Preller and the Padres do. They
have no farm system. They clear it out every year.

(16:07):
Every year they make what seemingly is the biggest swing,
and they did not fail this year. I'm a big fan.
We'll have to see how it ends up, because this
is a trade like the one Sodo one that seemed
like a knockout of the park. But as we've seen,
it's kind of aged poorly for the Padres. With everything
that's worked out in the Nationals organization over there, those
are my two big winners of the deadline. Those two

(16:28):
are my favorite teams. I love what they both did.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yeah, no doubt about it. The Padres made a big
time splash in this draft, in this trade deadline. And
I think those two, those two Orioles pickups that they made,
Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Loreano, I see both of those
guys being big time pickups for them, especially as we
get into the playoffs. They're gonna they're gonna be big
time assets as we get into the playoffs, as we

(16:54):
see how the NLS ends up closing out with the
Dodgers in the lead right now, Giants not too far
behind as well. I think all around the Padres needed
to make a move. They were just they felt like
they were just behind the Dodgers, and this puts them
right back in contention for that NL West Crown. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Absolutely, That NST is really tight as well. Right, you
talk about a really tight race three games back. As
we sit right now, the Padres have been one of
the hotter teams in baseball sixty and forty nine versus
sixty three and forty six. They absolutely can catch them.
That's gonna be one of those races to watch, along
with really every other NL division. The Cubs and the

(17:37):
Brewers separated by half a game, the Mets and the
Phillies separated by half a game, and then you have
to watch I guess every division other than the Central
really is up for grabs at this point. The Detroit
Tigers kind of have a lock, although curious deadline moves
for them, not really a huge swing. And we'll get
to that in a second as we get to our losers.

(17:58):
But before we do, there were a couple teams that,
honestly may rob I just didn't know what to do with,
Like I don't know if I want to call them winners,
but I don't know if I want to call them
losers either. The Athletics, we talked about them a little bit.
The big swing for them they get Leo Devrees. That's
something that if it works out, is going to be
an absolute win and you can throw them in the

(18:18):
winners column now, and I would believe that. But the
Twins is very interesting as well, because they trade away
half of their active roster. This is not an overstatement,
this is not an exaggeration. Literally, thirteen of the twenty
six man roster is no longer on the Twins. I
don't know if that's good, because the Twins kind of

(18:42):
were stuck in this purgatory. We talked about it last night, right,
this is a Twins team that has been stuck in
no man's land in Baseball no man's land for a while,
and they get off of a lot of those guys.
They move off of a lot of guys they were
expected to and a lot more. I don't know if
this is good, but a reset button at this point
isn't the worst thing. I can't call them losers because

(19:06):
I don't hate it, but I definitely can't call them
winners either. So they're in this middle tier where I
just don't know what to think about either of these teams.
May rup.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah, let's let's start with the Twins here, because it's funny.
We were talking last night and I compared them to
the NFL version of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But now thinking
about it, you can't really even do that. The Pittsburgh
Steelers haven't had a losing season in twenty years, so
you can't even say that. This is a Twins team
that either is purgatory awful, one of the top three

(19:42):
worst teams in the MLB, or makes it to the
wildcard round, sneaks into the wildcard round, and then loses.
They do that two years in a row, maybe once,
and then three years later they just slash it on
and slash it to pieces. This is another reset. This
is another repeat cycle the Twins notorious ways. It feels like,

(20:02):
and I mean, I don't really know what you're thinking.
If you're the Twins, are you trying to compete with
the Rockies for the best record, for the worst record
in the MLB or something. I don't know what they're
trying to do, But all around, I don't. I don't
think anybody. I don't even think the Twins organization loves
what they did. They pretty much traded away all of
their value, all of their assets, and pretty much anybody

(20:27):
that would be eye candy for any free agent to
join that team. Maybe they're just trying to look out
for the draft and rebuild from there through their farming system.
Maybe they see some glimpses of hope in there. But
all around, I don't really I do not like what
the Twins did. They helped other teams to get more competitive,
no doubt, but in their sake, they did not have

(20:47):
the best draft for themselves, no way.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
See, I don't necessarily fully agree with that, because this
is a Twins team that, yes, they traded away a lot,
no doubt about it. But you want to talk about
Eye Candy, you still have at starting pitcher, You still
have Byron Buxton, you still have Royce Lewis, You still
have a couple of pieces that you can look at
and say, Okay, that's a core, that's someone you can

(21:10):
build around. And sure, a lot of those guys are
a little bit older, and sure a lot of those
guys aren't necessarily gonna fit that Twins timeline. But it's
not like they threw everything out and they said fire sale.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Right.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
They got a solid return back for a lot of
the guys that they went out and traded, Right.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
This is a.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
I want to say, strategic reload rather than a dumpster right.
This is not a yard sale. This is a hey,
we need to switch up how we're doing things. So again,
I understand why you might think it's a loser. That's
completely fair. But as far as me, I can't put

(21:49):
them in that category. I don't think they fit with
a team that we expected to do things and did nothing,
or a team that we wanted to sell and instead
bought right. These are things that could be big mistakes,
and this Twins one absolutely could. But in the grand
scheme of things, you can't look me in the eye
and say that this is a Twins roster that was

(22:11):
gonna win a World Series. It just it wasn't happening.
And a lot of times, if you're not gonna win
a World Series, you just have to hit that reset button.
We'll see how it ends up for them. But those
two teams, the Twins especially, confused me a lot. As
we head over to the loser side of things, may
rob this is not necessarily again. Teams that did bad

(22:34):
moves right. The Red Sox they're on my loser list
here because they just didn't do enough right. They needed
to get another starting pitcher. They get Steven Mattz, who
really who? That's not really gonna be enough. They needed
to potentially move off of some redundant bats that they

(22:55):
have in their major league roster. They didn't do that. Instead,
they just sat there and they let the other teams
around them get better. The Rangers, they let the Yankees,
they let the Mariners, they let all of these teams
that they're fighting the wild card with get better, and
they didn't do anything they rob That is just disappointing.

(23:17):
It's the opposite of what the Red Sox needed to do.
They needed to make a big swing. It's just very disappointing.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Yeah, I mean, this is a team that people were
looking at to possibly trade Jaron Duran. They move off
of Rafael Devers months ago, have done pretty well since then,
but people were looking at Craig Bresla and saying, oh,
you trade Rafael Devers to get some flexibility, to make
some moves to add to They look like they were
setting themselves up to make a big time move before

(23:50):
the end of the trade deadline. Trade deadline comes and goes,
you add a Stephen Matth, you added Dustin May. And
then Craig Bresla puts his feet up and says, all right,
we're all set and we don't need to do anymore here.
Don't worry about it, guys, guys will you guys will
make the playoffs, maybe win a playoff series, and then
that'll be that. I mean, yeah, I guess sure, sure,

(24:17):
Craig res all around. I mean, I don't want to get.
I don't want to get the fandom into it, but
it's just it's it's hard to watch. It really was
a hard deadline to watch for as a Red Sox fan,
especially especially trading Raffi the way that they did, in
a way that on a day that when he hit
a home run to win the game, on a day
where it look like the Red Sox are gonna do well,

(24:39):
two months go by, you continue to do well and
then you get nothing out of it. It just feels
like it's just like it's just a gut punch, is
what it is.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Yeah, that's really what it is. Because there's so much,
you know, anticipation heading into a trade deadline for teams
at various different stages. Anticipation from sellers of oh I
can't wait to see who we get, anticipation from buyers,
Oh I can't wait to see how this team gets better,
you know. But when you do nothing, it just kind

(25:09):
of falls flat and it feels like you got your
expectations up for nothing, which is maybe the worst thing
as a fan. A trio of NL Central teams are
next on my loser list. The Brewers literally did nothing,
not figuratively, not basically did nothing. They literally did nothing.
This is a team that that is the best record,

(25:31):
it has the best record in baseball right now. They
did nothing to get better. That is not good. You
see your former GM, now the GM of the Mets
go and make all these huge moves, and now they
just sit there and do nothing. The Cubs could have
had a huge, huge, big gap made up between them

(25:53):
and the Brewers half a game separating both of them.
They also did just about nothing. They trade for Michael Soroka.
They needed some starting He's a fringe starter. He's a
starter four, starter five for the team. That's not the
right answer, right Both of those teams should be both
breathing a sigh of relief and also be incredibly furious

(26:16):
breathing a sigh of relief because the other one didn't
do anything, but be furious because they themselves didn't do anything.
Those are big loser moves right there. But also the Reds,
I've said a trio. The Reds trade for Cabrian Hayes,
and I like Cabrian Hayes as a player.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
I do.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
I think he's a very fun archetype, an elite defensive player,
the best third baseman as far as defense goes in
all of baseball, but he's being paid nearly forty million
dollars a year to hit right around the Mendoza line.
That is not it. He needs to hit better than that.
He's a guy that you have to play every day
because of his defense, but he's a black hole in

(26:56):
that lineup. He's a black hole when it comes to
his turn up at the plate. Maybe a change of
scenery at Great American Ballpark can do something for him,
but I'm not holding my breath for it. Caabrian Hayes
can be an elite third basement overall in baseball, but
right now his platinum glove is the only thing keeping
him in the league, and trading a lot and paying
him just kind of hurts the Reds a little bit.

(27:20):
I don't really understand the move. And also that was
the only thing they did. They needed to get a
little bit better. They needed to commit to winning around
Elie de la Cruz, to winning around this young core
that they have. It doesn't feel like they were interested
in doing that. But Kabrian Hayes, I think is fine,
but I would have liked to see the Reds do
more Again.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah, I mean I'm going to get to the I
want to get to the Brewers Cubs situation first. I
think this is worse for the Brewers than it is
for the Cubs. And why because the Brewers have been
in this situation for the last five years. The Brewers
have pretty much won the NL Central for the last
five years, or you could say at least the last
three and every single time they make the divisional round

(28:02):
or then make the wild card round, play somebody and
then loose. They usually play the Dodgers and loose in
the first round. It's just been a very disappointing last
few years now for the Brewers. For the Cubs side
of things, I mean, you looking at the you look
at the Cubs. They've already pretty much exceeded a lot
of expectations here and they have a lot of youth
to them, so maybe you can at least give them

(28:23):
a pass this trade deadline. But at the same time,
I understand completely where you're saying. I just think this
falls worse. This looks worse, far worse for the Brewers
than it does for the Cubs. At least the Cubs
got fixed, did add a little bit of bullpen depth. Nonetheless,
but when I'm looking at the Reds, I think they did.
Adding Cobrian Hayes as a defensive side of things, it

(28:46):
does help out big time, especially a lot of people
don't want to hear this, especially with Elie d la
Cruz's errors constant errors at shortstop. That'll help that a
little bit. And he could probably learn a thing or
two from Cabrian Hayes as golden glove where that Hayes is.
But overall, I think the Reds did a little bit.
I don't think it's enough to get them into the

(29:07):
NL Central contention for that for that first time, for
that first number one spot, but it could get them
into that wildcard wild card contention is, which is exactly
where they want to be.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Yeah, no, they they need to be up there. They're
not quite there, and I don't think this deadline was enough.
That's another reason why they're a loser. I don't think
that deadline pushed them enough to where they're going to
be in that wildcard race. Right currently, they're the first
team out, but they're three games back of Juggernauts the Padres.
I'll currently hold that third spot. I love what they did.

(29:39):
The Phillies had that second spot. The Reds are four
and a half games back. I don't think they make
up that difference. And then the Cubs. They're not catching
the Cubs either. I just don't really see any of
that happening. So it feels like, yet again, they're gonna
be that first team out in the NL. They've been
in that situation for the last three seasons now, the
first team out of the playoffs. It just really it

(30:00):
becomes when are they going to make that big move?
When are they finally going to go all in on
this core. I really thought it was gonna be this season.
Outside of all of those those are my Those are
my big winners, my big losers. A couple more teams
that I just wanted to go over. The Guardians are
more of a what if scenario, right They were gonna

(30:23):
be a really interesting deadline team. It sounded like they
were gonna move off of their closer, elite closer over there.
But of course the gambling situation with Emmanuel class A
puts a whole sting in that they can't trade him.
They sounded like they were potentially gonna trade Stephen Kuwan,
and I think that would have been a big mistake.
They end up holding on to him, but it feels

(30:45):
like they didn't do much of anything. They move off
of a couple depth pieces, but the Guardians I feel
like a what if they had, you know, had a
guy like Classe to trade away, how would that have
affected the deadline? And then the I don't necessarily disagree
with them not selling because this is a team that
I expect to be back in contention next season when

(31:07):
they get healthy. But also, you of expiring contracts, are
you really gonna re sign Marcelo Zuna? If not, why
are you keeping him on the team. It doesn't make
a lot of sense. Maybe they just didn't have suitors
for him, but I don't really believe that. I think
this is a Braves team that would have been able
to find someone to take on Marcelo Zuna for half
of a season. I just don't really understand it from

(31:29):
either of those sides.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Yeah, the Guardians are a weird team that they made
the playoffs last year they did really well, But so
far this year they've been really really feeling that second
place spot behind the Tigers in the Al Central. It
doesn't feel like they've made They didn't make any They
they didn't make any movement in the trade deadline. Before
the trade deadline, they haven't really done too much. Just

(31:54):
feels like a dud year for them, and it just
feels like another This is a year for the Tigers,
no doubt, and we all knew that going into this year.
But the Guardians, a team that you really thought could
make that division a little bit more interesting, not looking
like it is going to be this year.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
No, not at all. Those Like I said, those are
my big winners, my big losers. But there are a
couple other moves that I thought were worth touching. At
least Shane Bieber to the Blue Jays. I like that
move a lot for them. He of course a former
cy Young winner back in twenty twenty with the Guardians.
That was the big piece of the Guardians moved out.

(32:30):
But he's coming off of Tommy John. I'm gonna be
very curious how he comes out and how he performs.
I think the Blue jas are good spot for him.
That was one of my favorite moves that was made
at the deadline. Not something that's really gonna move the
needle too much, but it shows that the Jays are
trying to keep this team in it and are trying
to make a big splash at least with what they

(32:51):
have to offer this year.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Yeah, I mean a Blue Jays team that's really needed
some help the pitching department. Their hitting has been unbelievable.
They've been unbelievably hot with the hitting, but in terms
of pitching, especially on the road, they definitely need to
work on that, and I think addressing that with Shane
Bieber could be important for them. No relation to Justin Bieber,

(33:16):
don't worry about that, don't even think about it, but
definitely an important move for them, and I think I
mean it could solidify them in the Al East.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, absolutely right now they have that lead, and I
think making a trade like that is going to is
going to at least hold off the Yankees for a
little while. Big moves for them, That's my thoughts in
a lot of them. There's other moves. The Tigers made
a lot of small ones, not enough to really change
my thoughts on them. The Rangers, when I got a

(33:45):
couple pieces like Merrill Kelly, I like that move a lot.
The Royals also bought a little bit. Did you have
any thoughts on any of those teams or anything else?
We didn't cover.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah, my dark horse team that I think made a
lot of moves or made a big move, a big
splash that's going to make a big time move or
make a big time impact in this division coming up
in the Al West is the Rangers. The Rangers added
Merrill Kelly did absolutely beef up that bullpen, beef up
that rotation, make it a deadly rotation easily, I wouldn't

(34:15):
say easily, but possibly the strongest rotation in that division.
But and I say but that they were definitely desperate
for a bat, especially with how kind of disappointing you'd
say Marcus Semion and Corey Seeger have been this year.
You expect a little bit more from those two to
add a bat, to kind of help with that cold

(34:37):
streak from those two, to kind of improve that bat,
to improve the hitting in general, the scoring department for
that team. I think a bat would have been crucial
for this team. They didn't add it. Nonetheless, Merrill Kelly
will be an important piece for them, and I think
it could put them in the wild card, no doubt.
I have them actually higher than you think in as

(34:58):
a dark horse for me.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Okay, okay, I like it. I had them as a
Pennant team out of the al at the beginning of
the season. Don't think that's happening anymore, but I would
love to see if this trade deadline changed it around.
I like Merril Kelly. They've already had a really good
pitching staff. We obviously have the revival of Jacob de

(35:22):
Gram headlining that. But also shout out to Patrick Corbyn
for returning from being literally the worst pitcher in all
of baseball for the past three seasons with the Nationals
to now being solid. That is a huge, huge improvement.
Being the worst to being okay or even good is amazing.
So shout out to the Rangers for whatever they did

(35:43):
over there. But I really do like what they did.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Yeah, shout out night Nateavaldi over there doing really well
this year as well.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Yeah, absolutely, But a lot more stuff to go on baseball,
of course, still a little less than half a season
to go. We'll have to see all of these pieces
fit together. A wild trade deadline come and gone, We're
gonna take a quick break when we come back. Trade
requests are flying all over the place in the NFL.
Terry McLaurin, Micah Parsons will take a look at all

(36:14):
of the holdouts and hold ins taking place at NFL
training camp as football is officially back. That's coming up
next here on the Triple Threat Show.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Atta don't get.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
Attatattatatt depicting the automatic, Patti depict dat data, the data,

(38:41):
Plata data, Patta data stating the data, Patt.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Death met.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
Welcome back to the Triple Threats Show. We are your
hosts Jeremy Lapidis and may ROV's Hemmy. If you're just
tuning in, we just finished going over the entire MLB
trade deadline, winners, losers, everything you possibly could want to
know about that. Go check us out everywhere all over
the internet wherever you get your podcasts. Give us a follow.

(40:14):
But today, in this segment, we take a look at
the NFL. Lots of big stories, but the three biggest
stories in the NFL may rob probably the holdens. There
are three major players holding it. Terry McLaurin of course,
Micaeh Parsons and Trey Hendrickson. Now all of them are
at their team's camps respectively, but all three of them

(40:39):
are very very different. Terry McLaurin, of course, disgruntled wants
a new contract has been the leader of a bad
Washington team, has been through everything a football player possibly
could beIN, through the lows of being one of the
worst teams in the NFL, the highs of being one
of the best teams in the NFL. Going through multiple coaches,
multiple owners, multiple gms, multiple name changes. That is insane

(41:04):
what he's had to be through, and yet he's been
a consummate professional, one of the fan favorites over there
in the DC area. Terry McLaurin wants to be paid
like a top receiver in the NFL. Is he worth
thirty million dollars? I don't know. Is he worth thirty
million dollars in Washington? Yes, And that's an interesting distinction

(41:28):
that I make. It's not necessarily that Terry McLaurin is
a guy that is worth thirty million dollars in the NFL.
He is a guy that because of what he has
done and what he means to Washington, to that franchise,
as a leader, as a player, as a fan favorite,
as just someone that's been through everything, he deserves to
be compensated like that. He deserves to be paid like

(41:50):
Garrett Wilson, to be paid like DK Metcalf, not to
be paid like Courtland Sutton, who took twenty three million
dollars a year. It is a very delicate, say, situation
over there. In the big breaking news from yesterday, Terry
McLaurin officially requests a trade. He went as far as
possible without requesting a trade, but contract talks have just
completely broken down and both sides just can't come to

(42:12):
an argument. What do you think of this situation over
in Washington right now? Obviously we've talked a lot about it,
but as more and more stuff comes out, it's just
a very messy, messy situation that I think both sides
really want to get a deal done, but they're nowhere
close and I don't know if it's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
Yeah, Jeremy, this is a very very weird situation. We've
talked about it over the last few weeks or so.
Terry McLaurin originally has said publicly, I want to stay
in Washington. I've built my life here, I want to
be here. I want to continue to play for this city.
Says that on the air in a press conference, and
about week and a half since that press conference has

(42:55):
been said, he has now requested a trade. Out of Washington.
A weird situation, to say the least. Before we get
into the Terry McLaurin deal, we can touch on. Let's
touch on the Courtland Sutton deal. Just because we can.
I think it's safe to say Courtland Sutton got underpaid.
This is a guy that's been that's I think his

(43:15):
average he has I think seventy percent of his catches
are for first downs. He's he's a but he was
Bonnix's number one target and in the red zone he
was a phenomenal player. He is an absolute phenomenal player,
and I think he will continue to be b Nix's
number one target this upcoming season. But overall, his numbers

(43:40):
should not be compared to mclaurin's. And that's what the
situation is now in Washington. Every all the GMS, the
GM over there is looking at that deal and saying, oh,
let's pay you not the same, because I'm guessing any
like minded person would say mclaurin's better than Sutton would say, Okay,
you got twenty three million year, We'll offer you twenty six.

(44:01):
We'll offer you over We'll offer you one hundred and
four million over four years, which just frankly does not
make sense for a guy like McLaurin, as important as
he is to this Washington Commander's team, a guy who's
been through it all injuries, name change, you named it,
coaching changes, which is one of the hardest things to
go through as an NFL player. When I'm looking at McLaurin,

(44:24):
he's such a valuable asset, not only to the fan base,
as much of a fan favorite as he is, he's
a valuable asset to Jayden Daniels himself, how important he
is as a deep down, as a deep ball threat,
as a Saint. Frankly is just a safety option in
a third and long situation. Just giving it to McLaurin
is so important as it's a speecher his elusivity, his

(44:46):
ability to get first downs, fight for first downs. He's
a phenomenal player, and he is so valuable to this team.
Any team would love him. There are already teams. It's
been It hasn't even been twenty four hours, and you
have guys in New England asking Mike Vrabel about trade
possibilities for Tyry McLaurin. That is how crazy this deal is.

(45:07):
That is how crazy this news is. That it has
traveled this fast, so everybody knows how valuable he is.
It's just up to Washington if they will realize how
valuable he is to the team.

Speaker 1 (45:19):
Yeah, you talk about a fringe top ten receiver at
this point, a guy that in five straight years and
five out of six years in his career have had
one thousand yards. And that's not with great quarterback situations.
His worst year his rookie season in twenty nineteen. He
only played fourteen games and he had nine hundred and
nineteen yards. Right, that is on pace for in one
thousand yard season. He is a guy that is consistently

(45:42):
up there, kind of like a Mike Evans. You talk
about how much respect Mike Evans gets. This is a
similar pace to him getting all of these one thousand
yard seasons. Terry McLaurin does it without good quarterbacks, and
that is incredible. He finally has a great quarterback in Daniels,
and now they can't pay him. There is no reason

(46:05):
if you are the Washington commanders to not throw a bone.
As way, the number that i've heard is twenty eight
million dollars around Terry McLaurin. Now, the number that i've
heard they want is thirty three million dollars, and that
is a lot of space that is far away when
it comes to contract negotiations. The term I don't know
if they'd agreed to yet. That is another piece of

(46:26):
this puzzle that hasn't yet been figured out. But how
long does this go? Because right now, I don't think
Terry McLaurin and the and the commanders are necessarily commanders
at least are necessarily really considering that trade possibility. This
feels a little bit like a leverage play for now.
But if they continue to stay this far apart for

(46:47):
the next couple of weeks as the season starts in
a month now, right, you need to be able to
get out there and you need to be able to play.
You need to be able to be on the same
page with your guys. It is a tough tough spot
to be in four ten Harry McLaurin, And for the commanders,
how long do you think until this situation gets resolved
or until a trade becomes more likely than a re signing.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
I think at first, and we'll get to this later
as well. This goes for the other guys that are
one of the other guys I'd say that is that
is part of this requesting a requesting a trade. I
think at first we need to pump the brakes and
say this most likely a lot of this. A lot
of the time this happens, players are looking for a
new contract and the GM usually gives it to them

(47:33):
as soon as they come out publicly and put the
put the franchise on blast, because I mean, it's just
a bad look for a franchise for something like this.
Same thing happened to Lebar Jackson a couple of years ago,
same thing happened to Joe Burrow across the board, this happened,
the same thing happened to t Higgins just a season ago.
All around, this happens way too often, and usually usually

(47:55):
these players get resigned to the contracts that they want.
The thing is, if this goes on a week, two weeks,
as we get closer to the season, as we get
closer to September sixth, this is going to become more
and more realistic that a trade could be imminent and
teams are going to be starting to call Washington teams

(48:16):
I'm already guessing are calling them, I'm sure, but teams
will be seriously calling them asking about legitimate trades and
that franchise will start thinking about it. I believe McLaurin
will hold out until he gets that deal as well.
He wants as much as he loves to play football,
this is a guy that just wants He's been through injuries. Yeah,
I appreciate his concussion history as well. Across the board,

(48:38):
this is a guy that just wants to play football.
Not only weren't weighs values, but just so he can
be just in case of emergency situations he gets injured.
He does not need to worry about his value going
down or not being able to get paid the value
that he wants. It's that plain and simple.

Speaker 1 (48:59):
Yeah, and there's other things about Terry McLaurin, right, he
is just a very reliable wide receiver. But his holdout
is a lot different than these other holdouts in general.
Going around the Big news today, Michael Parsons asks for
a trade. And the reason that this one is different
than what's going on with Terry McLaurin is because the

(49:21):
team just reportedly has not even sat down and had
a discussion about a contract. Now, Michael Parsons, we already
know what his value is. He is one of, if
not the best defensive players in all of football. He
is going to reset that market. He's going to command
forty one forty two million dollars, more than TJ Watt,
more than Miles Garrett, more than Max Crosby, more than

(49:43):
these guys, these pass rushers that just got paid. But
the Cowboys are already paying Dak, They're already paying CD
And we knew the time to pay the piper was
gonna happen. It's happening now. They need to pay him now.
This request for a trade, while earth shattering, Wow, oh
my god, imagine trading the best defensive player in football

(50:04):
or the second best to play defensive player in football,
is a really tasty idea to throw around if you're
an opposing fan. If you're a fan that could picture
Michah Parsons on your team destroying the opposing team's quarterback, right,
it's really fun to think about. But there is not
a shot in the world, not a chance that he

(50:26):
ever leaves that Cowboys building. This is Hey, you know what, Jerry,
I want to get paid, and I want to get
paid before the season starts. You need to take care
of this. You've dragged your feet on this for one
season already. I don't want to have to hit the
open market. Pay me now. I understand I'm going to
be making all of this money. You know how much
money it's gonna take. Pay me now. That's my reading

(50:50):
of this situation, which of course is very different than
what's going on with Terry McLaurin a situation that both
sides want to come to an agreement on but they
just are super far apart, right, this is very different.
Both sides understand a deal needs to get done, but
one side needs to be dragged, kicking and screaming to
that negotiating table. We saw with CD, we saw with

(51:11):
Dak Prescott, and it doesn't seem like Michael Parsons wants
to deal with all of that drama. He wants it
done right now.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
Yeah, this is a guy in Michael Parsons. You laid
it out perfectly, Jeremy. He's a pro bowler and all around.
This is an all world This is a once in
a generation talent. People are comparing this man to Lawrence Taylor,
the best defensive back in the probably the history of
the NFL. When we're looking at Michael Parsons, this is

(51:43):
a guy that isn't a game changer, a game wrecker,
an Aaron Donald esque player. Probably Aaron Donald's a little
bit bigger than him, but still the thing that kind
of makes me think a little, that makes me think
twice are the statement that Micah Parsons came out with
today and I'm reading this off of Adam Schefter's Twitter page.

(52:05):
Thank you so much, Adam for your unbelievable insight. He
literally said, I no longer want to be here. I
no longer want shots take it at me for getting
injured while laying on the line for the organized organization
are fans and my teammates. I've made a tough decision
and no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
That came out of Micah Parson's mouth, That didn't come

(52:28):
out of Terry McLaurin. Came out in a press conference
and said I want to be here, I want to
do this, and then traded it, made his trade request
and even then didn't make statements like this this in
a way, I mean, if he is to re sign
with the Cowboys, Jerry, I mean, maybe this is a

(52:48):
way to just wake Jerry Jones up, because sometimes this
needs to happen. This happened with Emmett Smith back in
the day when running back Emmett Smith literally held out
for the first I think that was in nine weeks
of the season before he finally got a contract that
he wanted. This is a similar situation. This happens all
the time. Even Dak Prescott and recently have had this

(53:09):
happen to him two years ago. So, I mean, when
we're looking at this, I mean it. I wouldn't say
it's out of the question, but from Michael Parson's wording here,
from what came out of his mouth, not in writing verbally,
this is a situation that just looks like it's it
could be really what would be a nightmare for any

(53:32):
Cowboy fan out there.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
Yeah, absolutely, you cannot let that man out of your building.
It is going to be a mess. And I understand
reading that statement, why he why it might seem like it,
But you have to remember a very similar statement was
made by Miles Garrett earlier this offseason. He said, under
no circumstances, and I'm paraphrasing here, will I want? Will

(53:54):
I play for this Cleveland Browns team ever again? And
forty million dollars kind of changed his mind a little bit.
I feel like this is the same situation. I don't
think this is a deal that's gonna get done right away.
I expect this to be done probably right under the right,
under the limit for the beginning of this year. But

(54:14):
I expect him to get paid, and I expect him
to be a cowboy for a very, very long time.
I understand that verbal jarring match between him and Jerry Jones,
but that's just Jerry Jones, and I don't think that's
enough for the players. He and Michah Parsons, seemingly outside
of that interaction, have a pretty solid relationship. You see
them hanging out in press boxes all the time in
the offseason and doing all these things. I expect that.

(54:39):
I expect that deal to be made at some point.
I expect it to be figured out pretty soon. The
last holdout three different holdouts, three different hold in excuse me,
three different three very different scenarios. Trey Hendrickson is this
other one, and we've gone through two different ones, right.
I hate to keep using the same theme, but the

(55:00):
good and Terry McLaurin, the bad with the Micah Parsons
and the animosity there between the two teams. But now
the real ugly, right, this is what's going on with Cincinnati.
Cincinnati has dug their feet in and they say you
accept your contract or else, basically. And they've done this before.

(55:21):
We saw them do it with Shamar Stewart right earlier
this offseason. We saw them do it with Carson Palmer
all those years ago. Right, this is not a new
thing for them to do. They are saying, this is
what you're worth. You're either gonna take it or you're not.
This is the second year in a row that Trey
Hendrickson is asked for a trade. This one feels more real.

(55:42):
He's back in camp now, but this one feels like
he's just waiting for them to move off of him
because I don't feel like he's going to play this season.
It feels like this is trade me or else from him.
This feels like an unfixable situation. Terry McLaurin Fixable, Dallas
cob and Micaeh Parsons fixable. This one. It feels broken

(56:04):
to a point where it cannot be fixed again.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
Yeah, this is a situation with Trey Hendrickson. And before
we get even we even get in the deal with this.
The reason why this is such a big deal is
you don't you not only fight tooth and nail with
Shamar Stewart, but this is a Cincinnati Bengals team whose
defense is frankly just depleted, depleted, like did nothing like

(56:32):
expect them to have to score forty points and then
get forty points scored on them every single game. That
is how bad of a situation. That is how dire
this situation is in Cincinnati right now. You lose so
many pieces. This is a guy in Trey Hendrickson who's
one of the probably probably the most underrated edge rusher

(56:52):
in the NFL, and how well he he's He had
a real, real argument that he was the best defensive
end last year with how well he was playing, his
ability to get pressure to the quarterback, consistent pressure, regardless
of the help that he has from time to time.
He is such a phenomenal player and he needs to

(57:12):
be part of the Cincinnati Bengals team if they want
any hope of returning back to a super Bowl like
they did in twenty twenty one. I think this is
a situation that the Bengals just need to pay him,
because they just they need to pay something. They need
something on the defensive end unless I don't think Joe

(57:33):
Burrow and Jamar Chase are enough to get it done
over there. As much as I love Joe Burrow, as
much as I think he's one of the best passes
in the league, as much as I think Joe Maher,
Chase is a top five player in the league. As
a top five wide receiver in the league. Te Higgins
is a probably top three number two receiver in the league,
easily probably a top fifteen player in the league. Chase

(57:53):
Brown is an unbelievable running back across the board. You
have so much talent over there on this Bengals team.
But the second that we saw t Higgins get that
deal last year to pair up with Jamar Chase, we
knew that they were either gonna pay t Higgins and
sacrifice their defense, or they were gonna sacrifice t Higgins

(58:14):
or pay that and pay that defense. They made their decision,
and this is the end result. I think they need
to Probably your best bet at this point is to
get at least get some value for a guy like
a Trey Henderson. I just don't know what you do here.
If you're the Bengals, you're in a really tough spot here.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Yeah, No, there's a there's a lot of things that
they can do. And I think really, at the end
of the day, they're just gonna have to trade him.
They should have traded him before the draft, and I
think the longer they wait, the less people are interested
in an in an asset. It's gonna sound it's gonna
end up like Hassan Reddick, where either he's not gonna
play at all, or he's just gonna play on a
short term deal and then leave in the offseason. That's

(58:58):
just how it's gonna go. I don't expect this situation
to get resolved. I don't think any of these guys
actually get traded before the season begins, do you, Because
this is one that again, all three of these are
very different. But at the end of the day, I
don't feel like, other than Trey Hendrickson, any of these
players really are wanting, like deep down wanting to get

(59:23):
traded at all.

Speaker 2 (59:27):
I mean, yes, this is a regret that they didn't
trade him before. This is absolutely regret for the Bengals.
If you're Trey Hendrickson, I mean you're getting You're either
gonna get paid what you're off what you're worth in
Cincinnati this year, or or you're just gonna say, okay,
just release me on the spot and get your deal

(59:49):
somewhere else, which I promise you there are a slew
of teams that will pick him up in a snap
of their fingers whenever they need to pay him the
money that he's worth, probably more than what he's worth.
So this is a big mistake from the bank. That
was absolutely a big mistake from the Bengals.

Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
Yeah, but we'll have to see how this goes. We'll
keep you updated, of course, whenever there's more news from
around the NFL. But we're going to take a quick
break when we come back. We finish up our show
today talking a little bit about, of course, every Friday,
our top ten MLB Power rankings. That's coming up next,
a post deadline power rankings here for you on the
Triple Threat Show.

Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
Speaking as the ass speaked as does not speak, as

(01:01:27):
does speak speaking speak speak as bat as the speak

(01:02:04):
does not speak, speak as the speak does not speak speak.

Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
Welcome back to the Triple Threat Show. If you're just
tuning in. We've just finished going over the hold ends
around the NFL. Three very different scenarios for three very
different players in Washington, Cincinnati, and down there in Dallas.
This time we finish off our show taking a look,
as we always do, at our MLB Top ten Power rankings.

(01:03:55):
The trade deadline has come and gone yesterday. If you
want to hear more about that, go check out the
beginning of the show. We talked for forty minutes about
everything you need to know about the trade deadline, so
you shouldn't miss a thing that We are gonna go
over the teams that are right now the top ten
in the MLB, the Power rankings, and we're gonna start
off may Rob of course, as we always do, at

(01:04:16):
the very bottom of the list. There's a lot of
teams here. We were having discussions off the air about
how this list was gonna go. Last week. We were
very similar this week. I don't know how it's going
to be because the trade deadline always completely changes how
you think about a team. I know I have teams
higher and lower than I would have otherwise put them
based off of last week's standings, But at number ten,

(01:04:38):
I'm sticking with the With the Toronto Blue Jays, I
love the addition of Bieber right I love Shane Bieber.
He's going to be a really good addition for them,
but I really wanted to see them do a little more,
maybe bring a bat in to help, maybe fix the
d H spot where Anthony Santander has just been awful

(01:05:00):
this season. I know he's hurt and he's not really playing,
but that signing has not worked very well for them.
The Blue Jays at number ten, still at the top
of their division, but in a weak Al East, they're
taking advantage. They're still in the top ten here barely
holding on though.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Yeah, Jeremy, I went with my ten spot. I want
to preface before I we start. Before I start my list,
I'm may I may upset some people, so please take
it with a grain of salt and understand that this
is a list post trade deadline, not by record. Remember
I said that, not by record.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
It's the only real list, may Or. I have confidence, man,
this is the only top ten teams that matter, of.

Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Course, in my opinion. With my number ten pick, I'm
taking the Texas Rangers, a team that has been absolutely sneaky.
They add Merrill Kelly. Like I said, this is my
dark horse team and so far before after the trade deadline.
They add merl Well Kelly, which is a big time
arm to beef up that rotation. I am a little

(01:06:04):
bit worried about the bats, but this is the name
of the game. With the bats. The bats go cold,
the bats go hot. I trust Corey Seeger and Marcus
Semion to pick it back up, and I expect those
bats to get hot and make an impact where they
need to be. The defense will be crucial and I
think they sneak into the playoffs. Here as the last
wild card spot, I'm rolling with the Texas Rangers at

(01:06:26):
number ten.

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
I love that. I love the Texas Rangers. We talked
about it on I have them just outside of my
top ten. They're sitting at number twelve for me here.
I really love that pick, though. Shout out to the
Texas Rangers. My number nine team, the Detroit Tigers. Oh,
how the Mighty have fallen? They've been good. They won
four straight games. I didn't love their deadline, bringing Kyle

(01:06:50):
Finnegan in a couple of other smaller pieces, it just
didn't feel like enough. I thought a couple teams with
their deadline were able to jump them, and because of that,
I have the Tigers fall in three spots to nomber
nine this week.

Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Yeah, uh, Tigers are a little bit higher up in
my list, but we'll get there. We'll get there. A
little bit of a spoiler there at number nine. I
also have the Blue Jays. You have the Blue Jays
at ten for the same reason pretty much. I like,
I really like the addition of Shane Bieber. The reason
why I put them at nine. They were one of
those teams that were on the bubble for me, and

(01:07:23):
I know that's a little bit of a hot take.
And sixty four wins one of the best teams in
the MLB. This is a team that has thirty seven
wins at home, thirty seven and what is it, thirty
seven and nineteen or something, crazy a crazy disparity at home,
but twenty seven and twenty nine on the road, A
team that is borderline that is below average on the road,

(01:07:47):
and a team that is a big time stat there
has not improved very much. I expect that to turn
around as we enter the second half of the season,
or it's going to have to if they're going to
want to keep that al that Ale East number one
spot with the Yankees and Red Sox nipping at their heels.
But I got the Blue Jays sitting at nine, myself
at number eight. I got the Cubs. Chicago Cubs, a

(01:08:09):
team that we mentioned earlier, did not make a whole
lot of moves. They did add a starting pitcher, but
a fringe guy, a guy that's either gonna be your
number one bullpen guy or sitting at the bottom of
your rotation as the fourth guy. But I do really
love Justin Tucker. Absolutely. They have an unbelievable They're hitting
has been unbelievable this year, and he's won THEMI what

(01:08:32):
is it, sixty one games so far this year. They've
done phenomenally. I have them sitting at number eight so
far just because they didn't they were not very active
post trade deadline.

Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
I like that pick. I think, uh really, nine to six,
nine to five all kind of the same. You can
even throw the Blue Jays in there a little bit.
My number eighteen is number eight. Team is going to
be the Philadelphia Phillies. I like this Phillies team a lot,
but again, I don't think they necessary enough. I love

(01:09:01):
Johann Duran, but is he going to be enough to
push them over the top. I don't think. I think
there were a couple teams that pushed their way past
them at this deadline, one of them being the Seattle Mariners,
who I have at number seven. It might be a
little high for the Mariners, a team that, if you're
just going by record, doesn't deserve to be on this list.
But the addition of Johanno Suarez, the first player ever

(01:09:23):
to be traded after hitting more than thirty five home
runs before the deadline, and bringing in Josh Naylor, both
from the Diamondbacks, I think means a lot to them.
You pair that with the pitching and all of those
elite bats that are already in that lineup, I think
this is a Mariners team that could be the best
team in the al arguably.

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Yeah, Jerem, So you put the Mariners at six seven, seven, seven,
alrighty for me? At number seven, I put the Phillies.
So we're right there, We're right there. Actually on we're
on the same page here. The Philadelphia Phillies, they just
have been they add like you said, Joan Durant, I
expect him to be big time for them late in games,

(01:10:04):
in tight games, but I really wanted them to add
another bat to beef up that lineup. I really think
that would have been crucial for them. Their defense is
phenomenal across the board. They're really really solid. Their pitching
is solid, but I think that bat could have put
them over the top. And I think a big reason
why I put them at number seven is just because
of that competition in the NL on the NL East

(01:10:27):
that has gotten really the other team in the NA
least that has gone above and beyond, and we'll get
to them later on in this list. At number six,
I put the Detroit Tigers, the team you put at
number nine. I put them at number six pretty much
for the same reasons. Four straight really quiet after the
trade deadline, but I just keep them at six just
because they hold such an dominant lead in that AL Central.

(01:10:50):
I have them sitting at six, and I think they're
gonna still be a force to be reckoned with.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
In the AL. Yeah, absolutely, I love that pick. My
number six team also a force to be reckoned with
in the AL, the Houston Astros bringing in Carlos Correa
to pair with a very good pitching staff already. I
love that move for them, I really do. I know
that there's some hate around the Astros, especially coming from

(01:11:15):
co host of the of Rounding Third here on the
Triple Threat Network, Hayden Ramer doesn't like the Astros. Doesn't
like them very much. Go check us out on Sundays
Streaming Live for more baseball content. But the Astros, I
really do like what they did. I think this is
a team that's only going to get better. And there's
still five games up on the Mariners. That's a huge lead.

(01:11:38):
I still have them as my number one team in
the AL just because of the history. They just find
a way to win, right. They've been to the ALCS
in eight of the last nine seasons. That's insane. That's
an insane run and I'm not ready to call them
dead until they can't move anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
No doubt about it. The Astros are also my list,
just not yet. They're They're a big time team and
I think they're gonna be unbelievable in the AL West.
For me at number five, I actually went the other
way in the NL West, and this might be a
little bit of a shocker for people, but this get
ready hold on to your seats. I got the La

(01:12:18):
Market Dodgers sitting at number five, and yeah, that's low.
I know, I know, knock me over the head. But
they did make some moves, Don't get me wrong. They
added some pictures, They beefed up that bullpen pretty well
before the trade deadline, but they didn't really do a
whole lot. I mean, they have been struggling. They needed
some bullpen action. You have Sho Heeo Tani back as

(01:12:40):
well from injury, so that's gonna be a big time
improvement for you over there. I think I just have
them staying at five just because I'm waiting for them
to see this. This is a team that could go
from five to one next week when you do this
list again. I'm just waiting to see the effect of
the post trade deadline, how it all, how this all
shakes out. Are they gonna still have some pishoes or

(01:13:01):
could this start ironing out that ironing out that problem?
And can they go back to their old ways in
the NL West At number four, I'm also sticking with
the NL West as well. I'm keeping I'm going with
the San Diego Padres, a team that made it big
time splash add the trade deadline, adding Mason Miller. I
think that's going to be a big time move for
them at the pitching spot and I think they're they're

(01:13:22):
just going That NL West race is going to be
big time to watch as we close out the season.

Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
That Dodgers Padres is a rivalry, always fun to watch.
My number five team, you talked about him earlier. The
Chicago Cubs bringing bringing Michael Soroka. Not really the big
headline that you wanted it to be. But they kept
pace with the Brewers, which is huge, and I think
that leaves them in that top five, still a step
below the top four team. So I think, really after

(01:13:50):
this deadline cleared away from the rest of the league,
my number four team, it's those San Diego Padres. You
talk about deadline merchants, that's what they are. They go
out there, they make the big moves. It is yet
to push them over the Dodgers yet, but I think
this is the year that they get it done. This
Dodgers team is kind of out of its element. It
seems like I like this Padre squad a lot. The

(01:14:12):
Dodgers I still have ahead of them. There's still three
games up on them, and I think this is a
Dodger team you have to respect because of that. I
have the one spot ahead of them at number three,
but that is like a three A three B kind
of gap when we're talking about the power ranks as
opposed to a full three to four kind of situation.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Yeah, no doubt that. The Dodgers Dodgers Padres. You could
flip flop which way you like them. I'm just rolling
post trade deadline just because the Padres made such a
big splash. I just respected a big time and how
how much they beefed up that lineup, and how I
think they're gonna be really fun to watch as we
close out the season. At number three, I'm going I'm
rolling with a pick that you actually mentioned earlier in

(01:14:52):
your earlier in your list, I'm rolling with the Seattle Mariners.
A team added Gino Suarez, added Josh Naylor. Those are
two big time pick that I'm honestly really high on.
I think this is a Mariners squad that is not
only going to be battling for the number one wild
card spot, but could be really up there for the
Al West. I really love this Mariners team. I think

(01:15:13):
Julio Rodriguez is going to benefit off of this in
the lineup, not as much pressure on him, give him
more opportunity to blossom as a young player as a
young superstar in this league. I think the Mariners are
gonna be big time and I really love this move
for them. It's number two. I'm go for it at
number two. I'm also rolling with the Astros, a team

(01:15:34):
you brought up earlier as well, a little higher than
some people picked. Adding Carlos Korea, adding Hissus Sanchez as
a pitcher. I think this team's big time. I really
like this team, how they've been playing, and I think
this is a team that could be al Pennant bound,
really could be headed for the World Series.

Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Yeah, my number two team, and I'm surprised I haven't
heard him yet unless we have different number one. It's
the New York Mets. For me, the New York Mets
are my number two team. I love what they did
at the deadline. They are a team that's added those pitchers.
They went out and they fixed that bullpen. They went
out and they got some depth in the outfield. I

(01:16:15):
think they've really shut out the list. They were sitting
around number six for me last week. Now they're up
to number two. The biggest rise in the top ten
that we have seen so far. I love this for them,
but you're missing a team, I believe from your power rankings.
My number one team is the Brewers. Yet again, I'm
not sure. Maybe I missed the Mets or the Brewers

(01:16:37):
on here, but I didn't hear either of them so
far from you. My number one and two team, at
least one of them is missing. I love this Breweris team.
This is a Brewis team I would have loved to
see do more at the at the at the deadline,
but they didn't do anything, and they're still rolling. This
is a Brewers team that has been one of the
hottest teams in baseball, continues to catch and surpass the Cubs,

(01:16:58):
and I don't think there's any reason to leave that
they're going to stop their number one for me for
the second week in a row.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
Yeah, Jeremy, I prefaced this list before I said it
that please don't bring up records because I know And yeah,
let me.

Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
We'll let me.

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
Talk about that after I give my number one. My
number one team, I think you know who it is.
It is the New York Mets, a team that added
court Corey Mullins. I think he's going to be a
big time for them. They they beefed up that bullpen
behind Edwin Diaz as well. You brought up that four
four headed monster over there. I think it is going
to be a big time team, not only hitting, pitching wise,

(01:17:41):
it is going to be a big time It is
going to be a problem to stop this team as
they enter, when they enter October, because you know they
will be there when the playoffs arrive, whether it's a
wild card or most likely a division crown. We'll see
how it all ends up. But the Milwaukee Brewers, I
have them sitting at eleven, and yeah, I was fighting
whether to put him at nine or at but it

(01:18:05):
was either gonna be the Cubs or the Brewers on
this list. One of those two we're gonna get snubbed.
I only put the Cubs just because of how young
they are and how they did add Mason Soroco, even
though he was not too big of a move for them.
I just really think, I'm really starting to think that
this Brewers team made a big time mistake not adding
pieces at before the trade deadline, and I think it's

(01:18:28):
going to bite them in a way. Dare I say
missed the playoffs? Dare I say the third wild card
spot or second wild card spot. I think the Padres
got better. I think the Mets are better. The Phillies
are better than them. I think there are the Cubs
I think are better than them. I think do not
be shocked if we come back here in a couple

(01:18:49):
of weeks and we see a little bit of a
drop off from this team. They are hot right now
and those bats are going, but Christian Yelwich is not
enough to carry this team. And I remember we talked
about it last night when we were talking about this
Brewers team. I don't think this is the year as
I thought it was the year before the trade deadline.
I thought they were just ready to make a big.

Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
Move to.

Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
Stamp in that this team is legit, and they just
didn't do that. For me, I have them just sitting
out outside of my list at eleven. I respect it.

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
I love a good hot take from you, may Rob
and you know what, in the power rankings, with a
lot of these teams so close to each other, it's
not necessarily wrong either. I think you could very fairly
make the argument for just about anybody in this top
ten to be replaced with the Rangers. I disagree with you, obviously,
but that's why we're having this discussion. I respect it.
We'll see who's there at the end of the day.

(01:19:43):
But real quick, May Rob run through your top ten
for me and then we'll close out the show absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
At one, I got the Mets. At two, I got
the Astros. At three, I got the Mariners, four I
got the Padres, five I got the Dodgers. Six, I
got the Tigers, the Philadelphia Phillies, eight the Cubs, nine
the Blue Jays, and ten the Texas Rangers.

Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
