Speaker 1 (00:55):
Hello, everybody, Welcome into the Triple Threat Show. We're you're hosts,
Jeremy Lapedis and Mayrob Fittemi. Welcome, and it's been a
wild week of football. College football finished up the NFL
Week two finished off with a little bit of a
whimper in a late night game on Monday Night Football,
(01:15):
but still lots to like from around the league, lots
to dislike as well. We'll get into our winners and
losers here in just a second. We'll also get into
our college football Top twenty five the Triple Threat Show
Top twenty five. Little bit of alliteration if you don't
think about it too much, but we got a lot
to get into. We'll talk a little bit about the
(01:36):
big fight on Saturday as well. We saw Terrence Bud
Crawford defeat Canelo Alvarez to stay undefeated in the boxing ring.
A huge win for him and a huge win for
boxing as a sport really, But we'll get into all
of that later. We're gonna start off, Mayrob with the
winners and the losers here for the NFL. There were
(01:57):
a lot of winners, a lot of losers, and what
I really want to start off with, and we talked
about this a little bit over the phone. I couldn't
decide how I wanted to word this with winners and losers,
because one of the biggest stories of the week was
injuries as a whole. You go from the injuries in
the Thursday night football game where we saw Austin Eckler
(02:20):
Dietrich Wise go down for the season for the Commanders,
Jayden Daniels went down, he's questionable with a bone bruise.
That's three major injuries right there on Thursday night, and
it continued. Of course, the biggest injury news that came
out Joe Burrow going to miss three months, which is
basically the rest of the regular season. The earliest he
could come back is in December. But there were a
(02:42):
lot of other major injuries as well. Across the league.
We saw JJ McCarthy go down, so now Carson Wentz
is going to be the starting quarterback over there. Of course,
the San Francisco forty nine ers are still dealing with
Mac Jones as their quarterback right now. There is a
lot of big injuries here. Put the injuries down as losers,
but in a certain way, certain way here may rob
(03:04):
it's more the injuries won this week and everybody else loses.
So maybe the injuries are winners this week. We'll put
that in a big story. We'll keep it in the
loser section for now. But there's a lot of big
time injuries that can affect a lot of teams outlook
for the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
A lit of an unfortunate one with the injuries. I
don't know if I feel right personally saying that they
were a loser, so to speak, but I do think
I gotta be a little bit. You gotta feel bad
for some of these players I got injury. You mentioned
Joe Burrow. He's not gonna be playing for three months.
That throws the entire Bengals season in a runch. This
is a guy in Joe Burrow that made the Super
(03:45):
Bowl in twenty twenty. Was twenty twenty or twenty twenty one?
I believe it was twenty one. This is a guy
that has beaten the only guy that's beaten Patrick Mahomes
in an AFC championship game. He's one of the best
quarterbacks in the NFL, and he's just getting hurt time
and time again. You bring up JJ McCarthy, a youngster.
Sorry about that, rookie, you run youngster that hasn't really
(04:08):
seen a lot of play playing action one in one
in his career as a starter. You gotta feel for
you gotta feel for some of these guys. So the
injury bug was definitely around Jaden Daniels as well. Everywhere
across the NFL, the injury bug hit. And it's just
a tough season the state of the NFL and has
been for a little.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
While now Aaron Jones goes down to So it's not
just the quarterbacks. There's a lot of major position players,
a lot of major pieces that just didn't end the
game the way that they wanted to and the way
they wanted to do was healthy. Khalil Mack as well.
That scary arm injury suffered on Monday Night football. Looked
like he almost cut his arm completely taken off there.
(04:46):
It was not a fun angle to watch. But he's
in good spirits from everything I saw on the sideline,
So hopefully that all gets figured out. The injuries were
a major story, and I want to stay on this
for a second before we get too far into are
winners and losers. You kind of hit on Joe Burrow
a little bit, but the Bengals found a way to
win that game with Jake Brown and Jake browning through
(05:06):
three interceptions, and yet they won that last interception. That
play that really ended the game. Trey Hendrickson got some
pressure off the edge on Trevor Lawrence and if he
didn't have that, that was a touchdown. He was open
in the end zone. He just kind of short armed
at Trevor Lawrence did. One of the big stories of
that game was Brian Thomas Junior, who did not have
a great game. Drops There's some people saying he shied
(05:29):
away from contact, which it definitely did look like that.
And I've heard a lot of discourse around that game
as a whole. So let's talk a little bit about
those two teams, because I thought that was one of
the more intriguing games. I thought, like that week game
last week, the Bengals should not have won that game.
They should be oh to two. Instead, they're two and zero,
and that gives him a nice big cushion for when
(05:50):
Joe Burrow comes back, if Joe Burrow can come back.
Being a two and oh at this point as opposed
to oh and two, means that their season is not
necessarily dead. Last you're Jake Browning in about seven starts
when four and three he was able to keep the
boat afloat for Joe Burrow. He's gonna need to do
that again. As far as the Jaguars go, I understand
(06:13):
the people saying if I was Brian Thomas Junior, I
would shy away from contact like that, and Trevor Lawrence
shouldn't be throwing those hospital balls. He shouldn't be doing it.
But at the same time, he's a wide receiver in
the NFL. It just kind of comes with the territory.
You can't really shy away from contact in the big
(06:33):
moments in the end zone, especially. I understand a little
short dig across the field, but in the end zone
you have to go all out for that ball. You
have to have more confidence. That's something that has to
get fixed if the Jags are going to reach their potential. Really,
Trevor Lawrence had a good game, and I don't think
people should be blaming him, but there's a lot about
(06:54):
that game may rob to talk about.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well. I mean, first things first, you got that was
a lot, But I kind of want to start with
the Bengals side of things. Outside of Joe Burrow. I
kind of want to talk about, honestly, the main the
guy that they signed in the offseason in Trey Hendrickson.
How much do the Bengals love Trey Hendrickson right now?
They signed him for a one year deal for thirty
(07:19):
million dollars and he's come out and put on an
absolute tear for the first two games.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, that's two straight games that he's basically won two
mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
On the defensive end of the ball, is what four
sacks so far through the season? Three or four sacks?
I don't know what the exact stat is, but he's
been an absolute monster for them, and they they love
him over there in Cincinnati. After the Jaguars side of things,
I think them trading Tank Bigby and giving a by
Shell touton their rookie backup running back, I think that
(07:49):
was a great move for them. They love Tooton over there.
I love him in the backfield kind of in a
similar way the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used Bucky Irving. Touton
is a big time piece for them, and they love
you using him across the board. So when I'm looking
at this Jaguars team, I still think that they're one
of the better teams in the AFC, and I think
they're one of the contenders in the AFC South. Are
(08:11):
they good enough to beat the Texans? Are they good
enough to beat some of those teams the AFC. That's
yet to be seen. But they have the pieces, they
have the young talent to be at least at the
very least competitive for for the next few years.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, there's so much to like about that team. There is.
I like, I'm big on the Jaguars this year. Really,
there's also, you know, a lot, not a lot to
not like because we haven't seen them put it together yet.
There's a lot of what ifs, and that's not what
you want. With Trevor Lawrence, who's a fifth year quarterback
at this point, you need him to be a certainty.
(08:45):
Whether that's good or bad, we kind of have to
find out this season. But let's get more into some
winners and losers here. We started off with the injuries,
but let's talk about another loser. I put the Bengals
as a separate loser because they lost Joe Burrow and
that can be the end of their season. But how
about the Bears. The Bears are yet another big loser.
They come out after losing Week one, not the Vikings
(09:07):
winning Week one. They lost Week one. They should have
won that game. Bad coaching mistakes, bad clock management, bad
quarterback play, lots of bad from the Bears. They can't
run the ball, and then they go into Detroit revenge
games of short for Ben Johnson and they get sent
(09:28):
packing fifty two to twenty one. That was brutal, thirty
one point beat down by a Lions team that looked
awful in Week one. So let's talk about the Bears
a little bit because Kayleb Williams, yet again in discussion
is it his fault? Is he the reason this Bears
team can't get it done? There's a lot of other
(09:48):
things going on with this Bears squad. I'm not quite
ready to put the blame on Caleb Williams mayra, but
there's a lot of things. The defense is dealing with,
injuries to some star corners Jalen Johnson another injury out
for the season right. The running game can't quite get going,
and maybe, just maybe Ben Johnson just isn't cut out
to be a head coach. There's a lot about this
(10:11):
Bears team that isn't going well. Right now.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, I mean, this is really funny that you bring
this up, because I was actually having this discussion with
one of my friends earlier today. Ben Johnson is starting
to remind me this could be a little bit of
a hot take too, But it's starting to remind me
a little bit of a Josh McDaniels. We're two games in.
I get it, we are very early into the season,
(10:35):
but the Bears look like they're just all over the place.
Their offense doesn't look good, They're across the board. It's
just I just don't like this team very much at all.
The defense doesn't look good, the sloppy team against That
game against the Vikings was a mess, especially going to
that fourth quarter. They wont eight penalties for like one
hundred and twenty yards or ten penalties for one hundred
(10:56):
and twenty yards something crazy. Then they just go into
Detroit and get absolutely raked by the Detroit Lions. So,
I mean, I didn't expect to see a monra going
off for fifty two points or three touchdowns, I should say,
and what thirty points in fantasy. But that was a
big time game for the Lions. That was a good
(11:18):
game for that offensive line, of bounce back game after
getting trampled by that Packers d lined by led by
Rashaun Gary and Micah Parsons. But nonetheless, it was nice
to see them just come out in a big way
and get that win. But I definitely say the Lions
definitely put themselves back in that tier of Super Bowl contenders,
(11:38):
one of those better teams. I just am not ready
to put them any anywhere past that. I think the
Lions had a bounce back game, but the Bears they
gotta win next week against Dallas. These are two teams
that are on a collision course of bad who's worst?
Bad versus bad, trash versus trash. Who's gonna win it?
I personally say it's gonna be the Cowboys that end
up winning that one. But the Bears do not look
(12:01):
good at all right now. And Ben Johnson isn't looking
great right now, even though he had a great career
starting with the Lions, was a great coordinator, is not
looking good right now with the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Yeah, not every coordinator is cut out to be a
head coach, right There are coordinators. You brought up Josh
mc daniels, who's been one of the most successful offensive
coordinators of our time. A lot of that has to
do with Tom Brady, but still he has he has
a little bit in the hand of making that Patriots
team successful. And he's still been pretty solid when he's
(12:31):
a coordinator, Like he's a coordinator right now for the Patriots. Right,
that's all working out just fine for him. Some people
just aren't meant for it, and you have to go
through you have to figure it out. I don't necessarily
think Ben Johnson will be a bad head coach. I
just think that situation with the Bears just seems cursed. Honestly,
they felt like they did a lot of right in
(12:52):
the offseason, but that offensive line is still really really bad.
As much as they put into it, as much money,
as much resource as they put into it, that offensive
line is really really bad.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Still.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
They spent a first round pick on Colston Lovelin. He's
getting more, He's getting out snapped by Cole Comett. Cole
Comett is a big part of that offense. I'm glad
they're starting to use Romodunze. But if I had to
put one person on blast for who's the fault for
the Bears being bad right now? And it's again, I
want to make it clear, it's not the fault of
(13:25):
one person. It is a lot of factors that have
come together to make this Bears team just simply not
very good. If I had to put it on one person,
though may Rob, it would be Ryan Poles, the GM.
He has been the one mainstay through all of these decisions.
He's made all of these trades, made all of these
(13:46):
roster moves to get to where the Bears are, and
made all of the hiring decisions to bring in Ben Johnson,
to not fire their coach last year after drafting Caleb
Williams and letting him start with a competent coaching staff. Right,
There's a lot of things that have gone wrong with
the Bears, and I think Ryan Poles is the biggest
reason to blame for them. Other losers for Week two,
(14:10):
there are a lot of them. Let's talk about Mike McDaniel.
Mike McDaniel's seat might be the hottest I have ever seen,
and he's still doing his little shtick. He's still doing
his Yeah, I'm just I'm just a guy. I'm just here.
It was charming his first his first year that he
came in right the first year that he came in,
he was like, yeah, you know, to win games, you
(14:30):
gotta you gotta score more points, right, And we're like, oh,
that's that's funny. Yeah, that's Mike McDaniels. He's winning games.
But when you try and do that same thing when
you were arguably the worst team in the NFL, he
comes out with a quote yesterday says, Uh, to win games,
you you have to to win the game, not lose
the game. Honestly, that is not a quote that you
(14:52):
can say when you are losing a game. That is
not a quote that you can come out and say
and expect it to be taken the same joking. Everything's
going great. I'm just a guy kind of manner as
when you're winning games, you need to lock in and
you need to figure out because they're looking to you
for answers. Your seat was already hot, And I don't
(15:13):
know if that's gonna be the final straw, but it
should really make that Camel's back a little shaky with
that kind of quote right there. It is just kind
of inexcusable the amount of just nonchalant lissiness that he
is playing, that he is just coaching with right now,
This is coaching for your job type situation, and he's
(15:37):
just not up to par for it. Right now.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Mike mc daniel's probably got the hottest seat in all
Pro sports right now. That Miami Dolphins roster has so
much talent. And you saw it against the Patriots. Jayleen
Waddle got active with it, had a touchdown. Tyreek Hill
had his first twenty five yard in two years since
(16:02):
twenty twenty three. What's going on with Can we talk
about that for a second? Tyreek Hill, one of the
best deep ball threats in the game, having his first
twenty five yard catch in two years. I almost had
three years two years. This is an absolute train wreck
in Miami. One of the best teams in terms of talent.
(16:23):
You have Mike, you have Minka Fitzpatrick in the backfield,
you have Bradley Chubb leading the d line, you have
two attack of ilo. You still have one of the
best teams in terms of talent. You still have a
decent head coach. I'd say he's more of an offensive
head coach, and that kind of leads back to the
Ben Johnson kind of coordinator shouldn't be a coach type
(16:44):
thing conversation. But nonetheless, he's still a coach and you
still have so much talent. All you need to do
is have the pieces and put the pieces around and
put him in situations to win. You have Devon a
Chan in the backfield as well. This is one of
the most high powered offenses on pay in the NFL,
and a lot of people have said that for the
last three years that they should be in contention for
(17:06):
the AFC, Like theoretically they should be on the same
level as a Chargers or Broncos. Right now, they're sitting
on the level of a New York Giants. Sorry for
calling you out there, Jeremy, I know you're a Giants.
Look like it's a mess. It's a mess in Miami.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
The Dolphins have pieces, but they don't have the piece.
They don't have the guy. You want to talk about
that defense. Sure you can talk about Minka Fitzpatrick. Sure
you can talk about Bradley Chubb, but they lose Javon
Holland in the offseason. They don't have a single cornerback
that is worth starting in the NFL. Quite honestly, they
(17:44):
just simply don't. That is not a recipe for success.
When you look at that offense. The offensive line horrible.
They have zero short rushing yardage guys that can get
it done. You bring in Ali Gordon, maybe he can
do it. He's barely touched the ball in the two weeks.
Tua is severely limiting that offense. He just isn't the
(18:04):
type of guy that can push the ball downfield. And
we knew that it still worked. You had Tyreek Hill
and Jalen Waddle, you have Devon a Chan You have
all of these pieces, but you don't have the guy
that can make it go. You don't have the quarterback
that can make that team good. And as long as
Tua is there and as long as Mike McDaniels cannot change,
(18:26):
this is just not gonna get any better. And they
both need to go after this season if the Dolphins
want to make anything out of the pieces that they
have in this offense, because this is bad, bad look
for the Dolphins right now. Another thing that was a
bad look here. There's a couple just individuals I want
to shout out on the losers, not a list you
really want to be in. How about James Hutson, the
(18:48):
third offensive tackle for the New York Giants in a
game that was really good for the Giants. He gets
benched in the first quarter and he gets mad about it,
and of course you're gonna get when you get benched,
meyh ra, But I feel like he needs to do
a little bit of self reflection. If you hadn't heard,
James Hudson, offensive tackle is the first player in twenty
(19:11):
five seasons to have four penalties on one drive. Not
just four penalties on one drive, but four penalties on
four straight plays. It all starts when a really nice
play that gets the Giants down to the one yard
line is taken back because James Hudson decides to just
(19:32):
absolutely slap the heck out of a Cowboys pass rusher,
just one open palm slap down, he goes down. Then
a false start. Then on the next play he gets
another unnecessary roughness penalty, this time for pancaking after they've
(19:53):
already pancaked and the play was over so so more
extracurricular pushing on the ground there and then another fall start.
He gets benched for good reason, but he is a
big loser of the weekend. He is not going to
be playing for the Giants probably ever again this season
unless some injuries happened because that was a really, really
(20:14):
bad look.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, I actually didn't see that play, but you describing
it is enough of a uh.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Check it out. It's kind of funny.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
It's I kind of want to go see it now
that you mentioned it, honestly, because that sounds like one
of the most ridiculous things if you told someone that
without describing it. Honestly, I didn't believe you for a second.
I didn't think in the NFL an offensive lineman could
do something like that. I thought you were gonna say, oh,
it was four straight holds or oh even a four
(20:45):
false starts in a row would be ridiculous. But you're
telling me he did an offense. He had two unnecessary roughnesses,
a holding and a false start all together in one
drive in four straight plays. Yeah, of course he should
have been benched. If I was Brian Dabele, I would
have benched him after the after the second one. It's ridiculous, honestly,
and you don't want to hear me say this, but
(21:07):
classic Giants.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Right now, Classic Jencks. It's not a good situation over
in New York, for sure. But also Geno Smith James
Hudson might have had the most embarrassing drive of really
all week. But Geno Smith, my god, that was the
worst Geno Smith game I've seen in a very long time.
(21:28):
And look, I'm a big Geno Smith supporter. I've advocated
for him to be a fringe top ten quarterback as
recently as last week. Okay, there was a lot for
me to like about Geno Smith. I've put my eggs
into that Geno Smith basket. But that was atrocious. That
looked like Geno Smith when he was on the Jets,
and that is not what you want to remind people of.
(21:50):
Geno Smith. Oh for ten with three interceptions when pushing
the ball down. Feel against that Chargers defense, which we'll
get to in a second, because that Chargers defense was
one of my biggest winners of the week. I think
that's part of the reason why Gino Smith was down here.
But regardless, he needs to be better than that. The
Raiders as a hole need to be better than that.
They need to get the ball to Ashton Gentmore. I
(22:11):
thought it was ridiculous for them to give it to
some mere white so much. I know gent missed a
block and you need to punish your guy, but still,
you can't punish your top five pick in the NFL draft,
a guy that you built your offense around, or supposedly
built your offense around, one of those running backs that
people were expecting to immediately come in and dominate. You
(22:32):
can't not give him the ball, especially when Brock Bauers
is dealing with an injury that's clearly hobbling him. You
just don't have another offensive weapon. You can sit him
for a drive. Heck, you can even sit him for
two drives, but if you're gonna sit him for two
quarters in a game that matters, a game that if
you win, you will be in a position to take
(22:54):
charge of that division, a game that the Chargers did
not want to win. By the way, that Charger offense
just kept trying to give the ball back, and in
fact they did a fumble, a bunch of three and outs.
This was a bad Chargers second half on offense, is
fourth quarter, especially on offense. But the Raiders just couldn't
(23:15):
win the game as much as they were trying because
that defense shut down Gino Smith. He's one of the
biggest losers of this week.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Just to put it into perspective, the second I knew
this game was going to be bad, and it was
going to be trash first trash, and I knew that
the NFL had set I had done bad with the
clock management and started a game at ten o'clock, just
started a game way too late. Can we talk about
Gino Smith throwing a pick on the first play of
the game. The second I saw that, I knew it
(23:45):
was going to be a bad day. And then and
then of course Khalil Mack getting he was another one
that got hit by the injury bug. Actually, now I'm
remembering it across the board. That was a Chargers team
that definitely didn't want to win the game. The Raiders
definitely looked much better in this. Probably the best Raiders
team we've seen so far was that second half against
(24:07):
the Patriots Week one when they came out and took
control of that game. But this is definitely a team
that's brock Bauers, that's got a guy in Brock Bawers
that's supposed to lead the offense that's just bobbled right now,
and they're missing him big time right now. The second
he comes back to full health, I expect them to
be okay. But until that happens during a really, really
tough spot, and I don't really like I haven't liked
(24:30):
what Ashton genty has looked like so far through two weeks.
I didn't like him in preseason, didn't really have any
flashes of how he looked in Boise State. So it's
a little bit of a worrying sight so far over
there in Raider with the Raiders. But yeah, you mentioned
it with Gino Smith. That was a really bad game.
The only other loser I want to bring up that
might have been worse than Hudson and Gino. Can we
(24:53):
talk about Caleb Johnson for a second. I don't know
how Caleb Johnson is still on the on the Steelers.
Like I I sory as a Seahawks man. I'm laughing
because I'm having a whole lot of fun watching it.
I'm sitting there. I saw the ball going on the
end zone and then the I completely forgot about the
rule that if it lands within the landing zone and
goes in the touch goes into the end zone and
(25:14):
it's not touched, it's a live ball. I didn't even
know about that. Then the announcer just goes it's a
live ball. I'm like, wait, what, what's the ruling? What's
the rule? But yeah, now that was a crazy game.
You gotta know the rules. Your your special team's kickoff guy.
You literally have one job. You have one job to
get kickoffs, secure them for the offense, and get the
(25:34):
offense on the field.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Yeah, special teams are so so important, you need to
know the rules. That's Onny, that's inexcusable. I know he's
a rookie. Second game, ever, he's not getting too many
opportunities out there, and he would have worked his way up.
That pushed him all the way back down to the
bottom of the totem pole. I don't know if he
gets to play this season unless some injuries happen. That
is a brutal, brutal look for a rookie, a young
(25:58):
guy that a lot lot of people were kind of
expecting to take over the backfield at some point from
Jalen Warren. But I doubt that's happening anymore. But may Rob,
we've talked a lot a lot of bad. There is
a lot of good that happened this weekend. I'm tired
of being negative, may Rob. There is so much that
we have to celebrate on a beautiful, beautiful football Sunday
(26:21):
and I want to start off where we kind of
ended off with that Monday night football. But you can't
game because I want to shout out Jesse Minter, the
Chargers defensive coordinator. That was my biggest takeaway from that game,
Raiders versus Chargers. Jesse Minter is going to get a
head coaching job. He is doing things that are just
frankly innovative, and it's so obvious that it shouldn't be innovative.
(26:45):
I was talking to my roommate. He said, Oh, it's
not innovative, it's old. I don't care if it's old.
No one's doing it anymore. What the Chargers are doing
with their defensive linemen, they're coaching them to get their
hands up. They're coaching them to if you're not gonna
get to the passer, if you're not gonna get to
the quarterback, which these guys are getting out of getting
the ball out of their hands like that. They are
(27:06):
getting their hands the ball out of their hands in
three seconds, you're not gonna get to the passer. Read
the passing lanes. Get your hands up. They had eight
passes deflected in that game. Eight and that's not against
Bryce Young. That's not against a short quarterback. That's not
against Kyler Murray. This is against Gino Smith, who my
(27:26):
other take away from that game, I didn't realize that
he was just a giant. I didn't realize he was
like eight feet tall because he was bigger than everybody.
And yet it didn't matter. They got their hands up.
They were in the passing lanes. And that was why
Gino Smith was off his game last night. He had
touchdown opportunities, but he was too scared to laser the
(27:47):
ball in because the Chargers were getting their hands up.
They were blocking those passes. So we sailed a couple passes,
put some air under it, let the Chargers defenders get
in there. But that Chargers defense as a hole, played
one of the best defensive football games that I have
seen in a very long time. And Jesse Minter, especially
the way that he is coaching that defensive line to
(28:07):
get their hands up. That's gonna be a new part
of football that we're going to start to see explode
after this week, I think. But Jesse Minterer is going
to get a head coaching opportunity at a minimum, if
not a job, at the end of this cycle.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
I mean no doubt Shout out Jesse Minter, Shout out
Khalil Mack in that first half before he got hurt.
That was a really tough injury to see. But that
defense for the Chargers, I mean, there's not a whole
lot of big there's not a lot of big names
on that defense. It's a lot of rookies. It's a
lot of young guys that are just trying to make
a name for themselves. And they've done that. They've done
that in a great way. And you got to look
(28:43):
at Jesse Minterer and how he's coached that defense up
to do so. We've see sometimes I think I've seen
the Seahawks do it a couple of times where they
get their hands up boy, and Mafay loves to do
it a bunch of times. Bobby Wagners and the best
some of the best guys on the defensive end, they
forget like the best guys in the defensive end, that
(29:03):
one of the reasons they're the best is because they
use their hands to get to bat balls down. You
mentioned Bobby Wagner. Yeah, across the board, like this is
a team that is one of it. They're easily one
of the best defenses I'd say in the league, a
lot of people is looking at that Chargers offense, but
that defense is incredibly underrated and it's a big reason
(29:24):
why the Chargers are two and zero right now. They
take down the Chiefs week one. Yes, a kind of
a mediocre, really bad, below average Raiders offense last night,
but we'll see a lot more, we'll learn, We'll learn
a lot more about them as we move forward in
the season. I expect them to continue to perform at
a high level.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah, me too. There's a couple other guys that I
want to give shoutouts too, but definitely, I think again,
just just to get back on that point real quick
before we move on. You see players do it. You
see guys that are like, oh, yeah, I've got it.
I'm gonna put my hands up. But what you don't
see in the reason that really stuck out to me
is there were plays where the entire defensive line had
(30:06):
their hands up. Every single player did it. And that's
not something you see. That's something you see occasionally with
the superstars that are aware. But the fact that these
guys are aware, everyone is aware. Everyone is getting in
the way making life as hard as possible for Gino
for opposing quarterbacks. I think that's just so impressive and
I cannot wait to see how that affects really defense
(30:29):
as a hole in the NFL. Honestly, I'm super excited
for it. But there's a couple individual shoutouts that I
want to make here. Shout out to Russell Wilson. How
about a career high with the New York Giants four
hundred and fifty passing yards. We don't need to talk
about as last pass. Everyone was clearly exhausted on that
football field. You want to talk about an explosion of points,
(30:52):
how about the last four minutes of football Giants Cowboys touchdown? Touchdown, touchdown, touchdown,
And we don't need to talk about the sixty four
yard field that looked like it would have been good
from eighty whatever. Brandon Aubrey is so good at football.
It's a cheat code. It's insane, and it sucks that
the Cowboys have him. But there is a lot to like.
(31:12):
Russell Wilson got that moonball working. Do I think we're
gonna get vintage four hundred and fifty yard Russell Wilson
every single game? Absolutely, not no way, not a shot.
But Russell Wilson bought himself about two or three weeks
with that, and honestly, he brought Brian Dable a little
(31:32):
bit of time as well. Uh. It's it's an interesting
situation up in New York, for sure, but the seat
is hot under both Russ and Dable, so they need
to both play as best as possible. And if you
can't win games like that, you're just not gonna win
a lot of games in the NFL. It sucks, but
that's just the way it goes. I also want to
(31:53):
shout out Daniel Jones real quick, because Indiana Jones is here.
Bring out the lasso, give him that belongs in a museum.
Why not, right, Daniel Jones going out there playing amazing football.
I thought the Denver Broncos were gonna cause him problems.
And technically the Colts maybe shouldn't have won that game.
(32:14):
There was a controversial penalty call, of course, when a
missed field goal leverage call, but it doesn't matter. They
and the game is over. Daniel Jones leads them to victory,
and that is a different looking Daniel Jones. He always
struggled against pressure, not anymore. The Broncos blitzed him seventy
percent of the time, and he looked really really good
(32:34):
against pressure. They got pressure on him like sixty percent
of the time and he was still able to get
it out, get it to the right places. This is
the best offensive line and the best weapons Daniel Jones
has ever had. He's always been a guy that if
he has confidence, Like early his first game he ever started,
he looked really good against the Bucks. They gotta win,
(32:55):
but he has a look like that, his confidence destroyed
right by the New York Giants. But now he's back
new place. Knew me right, Daniel Jones has gone Indiana
Jones is born. Shout out him and Russell Wilson. They
were both huge winners this week.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
No doubt about it. I want to start with Russ
just because he has a near dear part that are
He's near and dear to me because of his days
with Seattle at how he pretty much single handedly carried
that Seattle offense for a little while. I know that
DK metcalf and all that, but the let Russ Cook
era in Seattle was very fun to see, even though
(33:32):
it was a little scary. That defense wasn't great. A
lot of injuries across the board, not a whole lot
of playoffs success, but a very very fun team to watch.
Four hundred and fifty yards was insane. Nobody would have
ever expected that out of him at what he's what
thirty eight years old? Now? No, he's gotta be what
he's getting up there. He might be thirty four now,
(33:53):
but he's getting a little bit up there with age.
Who knew we would see that these days? But then
bring up the Colts. I kind of want to just say,
who knew the Colts were going to be the most
fun team to watch this year? Guess who they're? They're
the team that is just showed up right out of
the right out of the gates in the first two
weeks and just taking the NFL by storm. I expect
(34:15):
them to get another win this week, going up against Tennessee.
That should be another fun matchup. But the Colts are
one of those teams that I'm not saying. I don't
want to get too ahead of myself, but could they
win the South? Could they find a way and sneak
it to the playoffs? Could Daniel Jones have possibly bought
himself not only a few years, a few more years
in the NFL, but a new contract with the Colts,
(34:38):
especially with how he's played thus far. And then that
we go into the Anthony Richardson discussion, which is a
whole other discussion for.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Another te He's done, he's done. He's done with Indianapolis.
He'll get a chance as a backup just because he's
got all the tools, but he's done in Indy.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Like this, it was Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones has just
taking the position by storm for two hundred yards in
over two fifty the first game, three hundred yards a
second game and against a tough, tough Broncos defense. And
you got to give him all the props in the
world with how he's turned his career around, really have.
The Colts are one of the most fun teams in
the NFL right now.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
And look, Daniel Jones has done something that no other
quarterback in the Super Bowl era has done. He has
had his team punt zero times. The punter might as
well have been sick, called off injured, it doesn't matter.
They have had zero punts for the first two weeks
of the NFL season. That has never been done in
the Super Bowl era. That is the kind of numbers
(35:36):
that Daniel Jones is putting up right now, so shout
out to him, Shout out to Russell Wilson. Two big winners.
There's a couple other teams I thought were big winners,
and this first one, may Rob, I want your thoughts
on because I thought this might be a little bit controversial.
I have the Cowboys as winners this week. First of all,
they get a big win against the Giants. Giving up
thirty seven points and getting burned by Malik Neighbors on
(35:57):
every other play is not a great look, but they
stepped up when they needed to. Brendan Aubrey is amazing.
Dak Prescott has his connections down with George Pickens, who
got involved. Javonte Williams looks really good. He looks like
he did when he was a rookie again before he
got hurt, which is amazing. I'm a big Javonte Williams fan,
so I'm happy that he's back to form. But the
(36:20):
reason that I put them in winners, the main reason
that I put them in winners, may Rob, and maybe
this is crazy of me, is because they sign Jadeveon Clowney.
There was so much talk about them letting go of
Micah Parsons, And I'm not gonna sit here and say
that Jadeveon Clowney is a Micah Parson's replacement. He's not.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
He isn't.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
He's a guy that can step in and be a
really solid pass rusher, a really solid run defender, a
really good number two rusher. He's got to step up
and be the number one. But the fact that they
were able to get him I think that's gonna help
their defense out a lot. I'm a big fan of
that move. I think the Cowboys could maybe sneak into
the playoffs. I didn't like to say that. I really
(37:11):
didn't like to say that, but this is a Cowboys
team that, with Dak Prescott at the helm, as we've seen,
can consistently compete with their offense. They just need that
defense to be a little bit better. Make that one
play they did in the Giants game, they got that interception.
They didn't do it in the Eagles game, but that
game was really close, one possession game, right against the
(37:32):
defending champs that just beat the Kansas City Chiefs. If
that offense keeps playing like that, if that defense gets
a smidge better, they could win some more games.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
I'm just saying I think the Giants end up with
a better record in the by the end of the
season than the Cowboys. Wow. Wow, you heard me, And
I know you'd want to hear that right now.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
I like a big fan of hearing that. But I
think you're crazy for saying that.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yes, the Cowboys have a good offense. Yes, the Cowboys
have a decent defense, decent defensive secondary.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
No they don't. Their defensive secondary is trash man trash.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Five, Deron Bland and tray Von Diggs.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Is like the worst cover corner in football. It's it's
kind of bad.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
But I can't sit here and say the Cowboys are
making the playoffspecially with quoted that NFC is right now.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Yeah, that that wasn't me saying they're going to make
the playoffs. But you have to look back. Dak Prescott
has been a top five MVP vote getter in three
the last three seasons that he that he was healthy.
The Cowboys have won twelve games in each of them. Now,
there's a Micah Parsons tax. I'll say two to four
games is the Micah Parsons tax. But if they win
(38:56):
ten games, that's a playoff team. If you win ten games, right,
I'm just I'm serious. Ten wins gets you in the playoffs,
it does. Am I wrong about that?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
No? But they almost just lost to the to the
Giants at home. What happens when they go back to MetLife.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
I don't think Russ puts another game up like that.
I don't even know if Ruse is starting at that point.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Hashtag Dart season, hashtag Dart season. We want Dart, not yet.
I thought we were gonna see Dart. I thought we were.
I'm not joking. I thought we were gonna see Dart
in week two, especially with the way Russell Wilson played
in Week one. But to play the way that he did,
especially going down what they were down twenty three to
three or something, came back, tied the game, and then
(39:41):
both teams combined for forty one points in that fourth quarter.
I mean, you can't ask for a more fun game
to watch through and through. I was watching at work,
and everybody's just sitting there at the bar. I work
at cheesecake factory, but everybody's sitting at the bar and watch,
staring at the TV, wondering what's gonna happen next? And
then Aubrey kicks that crazy field goal across the board.
(40:03):
It was just a fun, fun game to watch, and
what more can you ask for football? That's what you
want to see every given Sunday, That fun game, late
fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
That's quintessential football. Right there? Two other teams to shout
out here for me, I've got to shout at the Lions.
I thought the Lions were dead, I really did, and
then they just casually dropped fifty two points like it
was nothing. I guess the other winner for me is
also the Packers for two reasons. First of all, they're
arguably the best team in the NFL right now Micah
Parsons is making the biggest difference in their Super Bowl contenders.
(40:36):
But also because look what they did to that Lions offense.
They shut them down meaningfully. They only allowed six points.
There's that one Isaac Tesla touchdown that is insane and
was in garbage time, so it wasn't a meaningful touchdown.
It doesn't really matter. The Lions dropped fifty two on
the Bears. They couldn't score a touchdown against the Packers.
(40:59):
How good is this Packers defense? I don't know if
it's the Bears that are bad. I don't know if
it's the Packers that are good or somewhere in between.
But the Lions get a huge back bounce back victory.
They're winners for that. They take care of their ex
in Ben Johnson in just brutal fashion. That's the that's
the Dan Campbell way right there. But then the Packers,
(41:23):
I mean, how scary are they may rob They're terrifying
right now.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
They are the best team in football. And yes, Jayden Reid,
Jayden Reid's injury puts a hit on them. I'm a
big fan of Jayden Reid. I think he is the
wide receiver one on that team.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
He's a big play guy there.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Yes, exactly. He is the Tyree Kill, He's the Tyry
McLaurin of that team. He is the deep ball threat,
the speedster. He reminds me a little bit, could be
crazy take, but reminds me a little bit of DeVante
Adams early on in his career, like one of those
guys when he's working with Jordi Nelson and Randall Cobb
that you kind of forget about but can get active
when he gets throwing the ball and you get some targets,
(42:00):
can get hot quick and really quick. But when I'm
looking at this Packers team, the defense is all I'm
looking at. The secondary looks good, the defensive pressure, the fact,
the fact that they took down Jaden Daniels, the amount
of times that they Jaden Daniels was running for his
life in that game on Thursday Night football, and they
(42:22):
get a nice rest that was off a quick notice.
I really like this Packers team. They're my number one
team in the NFL right now as well, and I
think they're at the very least the best team in
the NFC, and it's hard to argue against it.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Right now, at the very least, they're the best team
in the NFC. I completely agree with that. I will
say I could see them at number one. I personally
don't have them there, but I very easily could if
they have really another couple of weeks like this one.
They're just really really dominating right now. I did omit.
(42:57):
One more loser, may Rob, and I'll let you finish
off with a couple winners. But real quick, I just
this is important here. My final loser, my final loser
is the push push. You know how much online discourse
I've been hearing about, Oh, it's so done. Now they
got caught cheating nobody. The NFL doesn't want you to
see this angle. You have both guards going simultaneously, which
(43:18):
is impressive. The way that they're able to time up
the false start so good. It honestly is kind of impressive.
But they either need to a officiate that play better
or they need to ban it now. I am not
a proponent of really banning that play, but at the
same time, I can understand why people want it banned.
You need to argue for the right reason. You can't
(43:41):
be like, oh, people are getting hurt. People aren't getting
hurt on that play. But if you want to say
it's not fair that they can do that but the
defense can't push, I think that's a very valid argument
right there, and I would support a ban based off
of that, not the fact that, oh no, we can't
do it. Everyone gets hurt, no one gets hurt. Very
(44:03):
safe play actually, But the Tush push, uh is just
about dead after week two. I'm seeing people writing eulogies
for this Tush push. So one more season of glory
for Jalen Hurts and then we're gonna have to see
what he's really made of when it gets banned in
the summer.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
Yeah, I mean, nobody else can do it like the
Eagles do what We've seen Buffalo do it with Josh Allen.
It doesn't work. We've seen well, who's some other teams.
The Packers Dug done it a couple of times. That's
kind of wishy washy across the board, like you see
so many teams try to reinvent, reinvent the wheel, but
it doesn't work. It does not work because you don't
(44:40):
have the guards that they have. I would say, for
a fact, though I did not see the play with
the two fall starts. I did not see that, and
that's my fault on that one. But if that it
did happen, and both of the guards just went on
the fall start and just pretty much just ruin the play.
And is it a fourth down or a third down play?
Speaker 1 (45:01):
I believe that one was a third down, but it
was on the goal line.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
So regardless, and of course it would be against the Chiefs,
so of course people would cry about it.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Sorry, sorry, Look, you can't do that to the Chiefs.
That's how things, that's how rules get changed. If you
do it against the Chiefs, that's how it goes. So
rip to the tush push. You were fun, but no
one can do it like you need to have a
special quarterback to do it. Jalen Hurts obviously can squat
like seven hundred pounds, so he's a guy that can
(45:30):
do it. The Bills could do it with Josh Allen,
except they don't because they never have anybody push him,
which I think is dumb, because if it's legal, why
not you know, do it. If somebody pushed Josh Allen,
with how strong and big and physical he is, he
would get like three yards on every single one of
those plays. But they just let him just go one
(45:51):
on one, just say you know what, Josh, you're bigger
and stronger than them. You do it. They never have
anybody help, which I think is a mistake. But I
think the Bills are the only other team that could
really do it at the same level as the Eagles
if they actually decided to do the real tush push.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Yeah, no doubt. And that's that's what it comes down to.
Who can do it in the right way. Josh Allen
is a monster. Uh. He has the own he has
his own unique ability with how tall, how big he is.
That's why he can do it. But the Eagles offensive
line is easily the best in the NFL and that
is why they are able to do it the best
way that they can. Lane Johnson is the best offensive
(46:28):
tackle in the game for a reason. He is the
best at what he does, and he leads that offense,
that offensive line the way he does.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Absolutely, you got a couple winners for me. May Rob,
we kinda we kind of went backwards here, but you
got some winners.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
I would say. In terms of winners, let me talk.
Let's let's talk a little bit about Mac Jones, Mac
and Cheese Jones. The way he performed with the San
Francisco forty nine is going out there and putting on
an absolute show in New Orleans, getting that starting job,
or maybe not getting a starting job, but continuing to
(47:05):
solidify himself as a startable quarterback in the NFL. The
way he played with that offensive group. I know they
were missing some guys. They were missing George Kittle, they
were missing Joan Jennings, but he looked really good. That
connection with him and Ricky piersall throughout the game was
really nice to see. Looks like CMC is also seems
like he's gonna he's not healing. Obviously, he's still playing,
(47:29):
but he looks like he's gonna be okay. That calf
is not gonna bother him like it did a couple
of years ago now. But I'm still worried about this
San Francisco forty nine Ers offense. I still think they're
a little bit overrated. They should have lost against the
against the Seattle Seahawks if it wasn't for those last
two minutes of the game when they went up, when
they scored two touchdowns in the last two minutes. But
(47:50):
they'll get a big test this year this week when
they play up against the Cardinals, the two undefeated teams
in the NFL, in the Cardinals and the Niners. Always
a good divisional clash between those two, and we're gonna
learn a lot about these two teams after next Sunday.
For sure.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
That's a big question, Right, did Mac Jones ear in
a starting spot. You're not the first person. You're not
the first person I've heard today actually bring that up,
which I think is kind of funny because that thought
never even crossed my mind. But he is a big winner.
He had a really good game, and I think it's
more the fact that anybody can be successful under Kyle Shanahan.
I think he'll be treated like Jimmy g He'll get
(48:26):
a pretty solid backup. He'll be like a top five,
top ten kind of backup quarterback in the NFL. If
he keeps playing like this. It's only one week, and
granted it's the Saints. Let's remember that it's the Saints.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
It is the Saints. Is the Spencer Rattler winless Spencer
Rattler in the one?
Speaker 1 (48:46):
Eventually he has to laws love law of statistics right.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Loved Social Dark with his social dar with them.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
They they gotta get one, they have to. I don't know.
I have this conversation with.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
I'll tell you that.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Yeah, I mean, I have this conversation with my coworker.
They are convinced that the Saints are going oh in
seventeen and they've picked against them every every single week
in Survivor Pool. So we'll see how that goes. I
keep saying they've got to get one eventually, but I
can't really look at that schedule and be like, that's
a win.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
Yeah, I mean I might have to. I might have
to use your friend's strategy my Survivor Pool.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Now, oh, you never Know. It's a tough one. Tough one.
This week you have the Seahawks, you never know.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Shout out. Shout out Sam Darnold on the way he played.
Shout out Taylor Horton, the undrafted Taylor Horton who showed
up in a big way for the Seahawks. Shout out
Kenneth Walker and that offense in general. Shout out that defense,
the death zone that DK is now nicknaming it LGB two.
Some people are calling it Legion and boom too. I
don't know if I'm ready to go that far yet,
(50:07):
but really really fun, fun team to watch this year.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
Lots lots to like around the NFL, and there are
a lot of stuff that we did not touch on.
I'm sure we'll touch on it a little bit more
tomorrow when we get into our NFL Tiers NFL Power Ranking,
but we're gonna take a quick break here when we
come back College football Top twenty five, the TTS Top
twenty five here fresh off the presses, we have some
honorable mentions, the return of the Group of Five Top five,
(50:36):
the G five T five if you will. All that
and more coming up next here on the Triple Thread
shows Welcome back to the Triple Threat Show. I am

(54:27):
with us here. Today we're gonna get into the College
Football Top twenty five. The AP Poll releases every Sunday.
The Triple Threat Show releases every single Tuesday. Here big
releases really just as important as the AP Top twenty five.
Coming from minds that are you know, just as well known,
(54:49):
well and well respected as the AP even more so. Actually,
a lot of people are saying than the AP voters
are is this list. But let's start off we do
with the Group of five champion, the top five, the
G five T five. There are only one spot theoretically
for the Group of five, and only one champion can
(55:12):
get it at the end of the season. Last year
it was Boise State. Let's take a look at that
ladder right now. Honorable mention to Memphis. I wanted to
throw them on there, but I just don't quite have
a spot for them on the list right now at
number five. I'm sticking with my James Madison Dukes. Maybe
Memphis can go ahead of them, but in my heart,
(55:34):
Bob Chesney has a plan. They had a bye week
big game against Liberty. We don't like Liberty. Go destroy
the Flames, Jmu. I believe show them that you deserve
to be receiving votes yet again. After a tough loss
against Louisville UNLV undefeated three to zero. They've dominated early season.
(55:55):
They look really good as yet another strong group of
five contender coming out of them out in West Navy
looked really good last year. They continue their climb. They're
at number three on a group of five ladder. But
there's really a two horse race right now, and it's
between two Lane and USF. Two Lane got a massive
win over Duke. They have two Power four victories already
(56:18):
this season, and they got a big test coming up
this week against Ole Miss and USF, who I still
have number one. I know they just lost to Miami,
but they've beaten Florida, They've beaten Boise State. These are
elite teams, and it really feels like it's gonna be
one of those two. As long as they don't flame
out down the stretch like Tulane did last year, this
(56:40):
is gonna be a fun race. We could see both
of these teams ranked right now, USF receiving votes, two
Lane receiving votes. I think USF still is one of
the most impressive resumes in the country. Their only losses
to a team that I think is arguably the best
team in the nation right now in Carson Beck's University
of Miami, But us currently the top of the ladder.
(57:02):
The go get Her the one that is the favorite
to make a playoff spot out of the group of five.
Two Lane not too far behind. Then there's a big
drop off Navy, UNLV JMU, Memphis, and Boise State. As
the group of five starts to take shape, Who is
your favorite for the group of five right now? May Rob?
Speaker 2 (57:22):
I would say, right now, I say two Lane is
probably my favorite in the Big five. They're one of
those fun teams to watch in college football. I'd really
like what they've done. They're what two and oh right
now with how they've in football, They're just a really
fun team to watch with how they've played. They are
two and oh right now and they continue. They just
beat a good Duke Blue Devil team. I know it's
(57:44):
not basketball here, but still three and all. I apologize,
but really a really fun team to watch that's going
to continue to play at a high level, and I
expect to probably be that number twenty five team when
we end up finishing our season here in college four.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
Yeah. Absolutely, there's a lot to like. But we got
to graduate to the big boy leagues here. We have
to get to the real top twenty five. Who are
the twenty five best teams in the nation. We'll find
out on a second. I'm sorry to keep you waiting.
There are a couple teams that I want to shout
out that I could not quite make onto my list. Here,
I've got yet again six teams maybe seven this time
(58:22):
that I don't quite have in their two lane. We
just talked about a big fan of their game. If
they can win against Ole Miss this week, they are
climbing real high onto that top twenty five. SMU and
Baylor two teams that are just on the outside looking in.
I'm a big fan of both of those teams. They
got wins against lesser competition this week, but those two
(58:44):
teams went to double overtime against each other against each other,
and they're kind of tied neck and neck with each
other there. TCU got a big win in week one
and what's kind of aging worse and worse. But I
still think that TCU team is for real. They just
need to get one more big win and they have
the op opportunity to do it this week. If they
can take care of business, that would be huge and
(59:05):
I think they would find themselves in Mississippi States looked
really good. Shout out the SEC. BYU and USC are
the ones that just barely missed out for me. BYU
has been on the outside looking in. USC ranked in
the top twenty five of the eight people. I'm not
quite ready to put him in there yet, but they
are real close and they're looking real good.
Speaker 2 (59:25):
May Rob, Yeah, no doubt about it. They do look
really good right now, and they're gonna find a way
into this top twenty five as well. I mentioned Tulane before.
But this team, this team is probably I know, they're
not gonna probably Cray. I'm not saying they're gonna get
into the playoff or anything, but they're gonna find a
way into that twenty to twenty five range, no doubt
(59:45):
about it by the time the season's over.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
Yeah, there's a lot to like here. But let's get
into the real list. I have tease you guys for
long enough here, Let's get right down to business. South
Florida stays on my list. I know, sacrily, a team
that loses that's not a power conference team stays in
the top twenty five. How could I possibly do that?
(01:00:08):
I don't care. This is a South Florida team that
arguably has the best resume in all of college football.
We talked about it when we did our group of
five breakdown here, but South Florida stays in at number
twenty five. I still think They've looked really good and
they lost to Again. I'll say it a team that
I think arguably could be number one overall in the
nation with the way that they're playing. I also still
(01:00:30):
have South Carolina here. They're dealing with a Leonoris Seller's injury.
They have a big game this week. They lose to Vandy,
who people are putting way up there. That's a quality
loss as much as you can have quality losses. I
think this is a South Carolina team that still deserves
to be up there. They're here at number twenty four.
Another thing that I'm a big fan of that Louisville
(01:00:51):
Cardinal team. I love that run game that they've got.
I think they're going to be really dangerous going through
this season. They're here at number twenty three. At number
twenty two, two, you have to go with the Indiana Hoosiers.
Indiana just continues to win games. It doesn't matter who
they play. If they win games, they're going to stay
up here. But they have a real test this week
against Illinois, who's gonna be ranked a lot higher up
(01:01:13):
on mind, they're the number ninth ranked team in the
Apeop Pole. Indiana, if they don't win, they're out of
playoff contention, quite honestly, because that schedule just really isn't
good enough. And to round out that first group of five,
we're going with a Auburn Tigers. Auburn's looked really good,
and you want to talk about a big game, They've
got one against Oklahoma this week. That one should be
(01:01:37):
a whole lot of fun. A barn Burner over there,
but the Auburn Tigers are back and they're playing great football.
I'm a big fan of all five of these teams.
Someone's gotta fall out soon with how many big Top
twenty five matchups there are this week, though.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
No doubt about it, arburn that is the game that
is probably gonna be the game of the week between
the Tigers and the ok and the Oklahoma Sooners. This
is gonna be It's gonna be one of the games
of the week, no doubt about it. I can't wait
to see it. This is gonna be two fun teams
that have been in the top twenty five. I think
Oklahoma's always been at QB land. I expect their guy
(01:02:15):
to show up in a big way. Auburn always a
great team to watch, especially in football, and I expect
him to hang around that level as well. This is
gonna be one of those fun games to watch and
I can't wait to see it for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
Lots to like. They get a big, big, big game
this week against Oklahoma. Number twenty goes to Missouri. The
Tigers also at three and oh. They took carry Kansas
last time out. They continue to win football games. They
started off hot last year. I think this is a
better team than last year's Missouri team. I know they
got all the way up to like like thirteen or
(01:02:47):
something in the ranking last year, maybe even higher, but
they fell off a cliff once they hit that SEC play.
This is a Missouri team that I think is even
better than last year, and their heights are just gonna
continue to grow. Notre Dame also stayed in. Maybe I'm
being two lax on these teams. Notre Dame's zero and two.
You say Notre Dame shouldn't be up here. You say,
I understand the argument. I truly do, But you have
(01:03:09):
to look at the teams that they've lost to. They
lost to a really good Miami team top three in
the nation. They lost to a really good an n
team who is now a top ten team in the Nation.
According to the Ape Pole, that are two top ten losses.
If you are a Notre Dame team and you win
out your ten and two, who's only two losses come
against two top ten schools, You've still got a shot
(01:03:31):
at the playoffs. That being said, they are very much
on their last straw. They need to figure out that defense,
which was their strength last year. Something has really been
missing their defensive coordinator. Of course, leaves for the Bengals,
that is going to be the straw that kicks them
out of the playoffs. Notre Dame needs to get that
fixed now. Number eighteen, I've got Texas Tech and the
(01:03:52):
team they're playing, I've got right ahead of them, Utah.
That is going to be a heavyweight battle, potential preview
for the Big Twelve title game this at the end
of this season, those two are the favorites in my
mind for the Big Twelve. Still a lot of competition.
The Big Twelve is one of the most insane, cannibalistic
conferences that we see in football every single year. They're
(01:04:14):
gonna eat each other alive, and this is part one
of that. I'm very excited for that game and the
last one of this little quintuplet over there. We're going
with Georgia Tech at number sixteen. Haines King takes care
at Clemson kicks them all the way down out of
the top twenty five, out of the honorable mentions. Clemson
(01:04:35):
nowhere to be found. Egg on my face, how about that.
But Georgia Tech has looked really good. They were really
good to start last season. They kind of fizzled out
a little bit. They took Georgia to like fourteen overtimes
last season. They have the same star players, same star
running back, same star quarterback. They will run the ball
down your throat. They are more physical than you. They
know how to control the pace of play. And Georgia Tech,
(01:04:58):
if their defense can continue to play like that against
great teams, they're going to be really hard to beat
in the ACC.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
No doubt about it. They are going to be a
very tough out. I love this Georgia Tech team. They
are my favorite team right now in all of college football.
To watch three and zero and say it with me, Jeremy,
Clemson Tigers are not a top three team in college.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
They're not a top three team in college football.
Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
You're right, you did have them in the top three.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
I had them at number one. This is worse than
your picture. This is worse than your painting it.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
This is worse. This is worse than my Patriots take
Jeremy Lopetis. Nonetheless, this is college football is always a
tough sport to call it. So I give you props
for saying that it would be Clemson. But it's not
looking like it's panning out like we thought it was
going to be.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
It's not over until you lose an ACC game. They
just lost an ACC game, so I would say the season, well,
it's not over. It's it's not looking good for sure.
They had a slow start last year though, and maybe
maybe Dabbo just needs to wake up a little bit
like their defense does as well.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
More the offense though Dabo and Kate Klubnick. But definitely
that Texas Tech Utah game is a fun game that
we're gonna be watching. Everyone's gonna be watching Temple Georgia Tech.
And then, of course, is Notre Dame gonna beat Purdue.
They have to beat the boys.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
They better, right Purdue. If they don't beat Perdue, they
don't deserve to be anywhere near the top twenty five,
not even in like the top fifty. Honestly, they should
blow them out. It shouldn't be close.
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Yeah, well, let's head all up into the top fifteen,
my friend.
Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
That's right, man, Rob hitting the top fifteen to five
more teams before we hit the top ten. Iowa State
a team that just keeps rolling. Good things happen when
you win. In Ireland Week zero, Iowa State continuing to
prove that they have won close games for sure, but
winning games nonetheless. I'm a big fan of that team
(01:07:11):
as long as they can keep pulling that magic out
of the hat. Ole Miss at number fourteen, they have
not looked too amazing. They get a shootout win over
Taylor Green in Arkansas last week after playing tight against Kentucky.
They're now two in oher n SEC play. That's a
real good head start. They've got a chance. They've got
a big, big game this week against Tulane. They're on Upsettlert.
(01:07:36):
For me, ole Miss is a team that's played their
guys close, and Tulane is not a team you really
want to play close against because they'll they'll find a
way to bite you. How about Vanderbilt though, at number
thirteen in the nation, Diego Pavia has got things going.
That is a team that is for real. They took
down Alabama last year and people were shocked, as they
(01:07:58):
should have been, because Vanderbilt generally not great of football,
but people took Vanderbilt as a one year wonder. Diego
Pavio returns. This team got better and they proved it.
They a team in Virginia Tech last year who they
beat in overtime at a neutral site. They win by
twenty four in Blacksburg, a tough place that's famously very
tough to play. Then they go out and they destroy
(01:08:22):
South Carolina. They dominate that game. Vanderbilt is for real.
They are going to be a problem in the SEC.
While we're on Virginia Tech real quick. They fire their coach,
Brent Prye, as well as UCLA also fires their coach,
the first two casualties of the coaching carousel. That's gonna
be something to keep an eye on over there. Alabama
(01:08:42):
at number twelve after a not so great week, one
that lost to Florida State and a win that's aging
pretty solid right now with the way that Florida State
is playing, Alabama has just looked like a completely different team.
They're back, they're ready to go and they're winning games.
Now that being said, it was against not great competition
and they beat an FCS school week two, and then
they beat a Wisconsin tine that was out there without
(01:09:04):
their starting quarterback. So there's still some you know, asterisks there,
But the way that Alabama's playing, and more importantly, the
way that Florida State is playing, I think Alabama needed
to move up a little bit more. And I told
you we'd get there. At number eleven, just outside the
top ten. Illinois, the fighting Aliini have returning production. That's
the two magic words may rob returning production. Luke Altmeyer
(01:09:27):
has looked amazing. They continue to find ways to win
games and they have a big one one that could
really determine their playoff fate against Indiana and Kurt Signetti
this week. Lots of big games to watch out for.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
No doubt about it. Illinois burst onto the scene so far.
They got a big game coming up this weekend. But
this shout out the aligna who knew that they were
going to show up the way that they have this season.
Outside of you, of course you called it with them,
but they definitely have a tough game against Indiana Indiana
obviously one of those, probably one of those big four
(01:10:02):
teams in the In the Big Ten, i'd say, always
a team that's competitive in that conference, and I expect
it to stay that way. This is gonna be a
fun game to watch and probably going to consider their
top ten right now in the Big ten pole in
the AP pullings. But could it decide if they can
enter the top five or the top seven by chance,
(01:10:22):
that's the question.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
There's a real chance depending on what happens. The way
that some of these teams ahead of them are playing,
it's not really a guarantee that they're gonna stay ahead
of them, especially with a big win on that one.
Getting into the top ten though, may rob here unless
you you got more go for it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
I was just gonna say, what's going on with Alabama.
I know they had a tough loss against against Floria State,
but they got they got to figure it out. I mean,
they got a big game this weekend and we're gonna
get to them, and I can't wait to talk about it.
But this is gonna be a big, big game. I
don't want to I don't want to talk about it.
If the people haven't looked at it yet let's preview
that one when we get there.
Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Yeah, there's a lot to like about this about this
Crimson Tide team as we get further into the season here.
But getting in to that top ten real quick, we'll
start off with Oklahoma. How about a new Heisman front
runner over there, Heisman front runner John Mattier. He gets
(01:11:25):
a big game. Again. We've talked about this big game
a lot. There's a lot of big games coming up soon,
including Alabama Georgia. Like you're talking about Alabama on a
bye week this week, so that's gonna be next week.
But still that's the one they're preparing for in Georgia. Look,
John Mattier is real Heisman candidate over there. For Oklahoma,
(01:11:46):
that is not a joke. Oklahoma quarterback factory. They get
to take on their old flame in Jackson Arnold. That
one should be a whole lot of fun coming into
But Oklahoma's looked really good, especially defensively. I think that's
where they get the upper hand. And number nine, I've
got Texas. Arch Banning just has not looked like all
that he was so hyped up. It's fine, he is
(01:12:07):
going to be good, but he's not ready yet. And
he's not coming into the NFL after this season unless
something magically changes and he magically becomes this prince that
was promised in SEC play. Florida State. We kind of
talked about it earlier. They've dominated. Big fan of them.
They're all the way up to number eight for me
in my most recent top twenty five ranking. Big fan
(01:12:29):
of what they've done over there, a real quick turnaround,
which is tough to do. A coach that was on
the hot seat now safe after Florida State looks like
a front runner in the ACC. Texas A and M.
We talked about them as well. Big win over Notre Dame.
They jump all the way up to number seven for me,
a win that they just had to pull out, a
gritty one. That's not a game that Texas A and
(01:12:50):
M usually wins. Something's different about this Texas A and
M team this year. That's a huge way to finish
against a great Notre Dame team. And at number six
it's the Georgia Bulldogs. This is a Georgia team that
pulled one out against Tennessee. I had to move them
up a little bit. I had to punish Tennessee a
little bit. But this is This is a very very
(01:13:13):
good Georgia team. They are able to win. Kirby Smart
just wins those games at the end of the day.
That's that's what he does. It wasn't pretty. Their defense
needs some work. I know that's a good Tennessee offense,
but I'd like to see more out of that Georgia
defense going forward. They led up a lot of big plays,
so I can't move him quite into the top five yet.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
I mean, no doubt about it. I wouldn't say I
think the offense did what they were supposed to do
in Georgia with Gunner Stockton, he got a Gunner stock
down a good game. Threw for three hundred yards twenty
three to thirty one pretty accurate quarterback to touchdowns, no picks,
just overall a good game. But you gotta look at
that defense and expect better. I mean, Joey Aguilar had
his way with this team. Yes, he threw two picks,
(01:13:59):
but he also threw for three hundred and seventy yards.
He also let Chris Braswell go off for one hundred
and seventy yards. I mean, you gotta expect better if
you're the Georgia Bulldogs defense, especially on I thought it
was actually this week. Sorry about that. I was a
little bit of a scare. I didn't see the date
over there, September twenty seventh, but we gotta have that
(01:14:21):
day circled over there. We have a big college football
week coming up next week, betweam with a game coming
up between Alabama and Georgia. I cannot wait to see
that one, and honestly, that could be in contention for
Game of the Year. These are two teams that are
both going to be prepping for that one, both have
weeks off as well.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Well. It certainly was last year game of the year
kind of style. Of course, Alabama gets that one done
in the end. We'll see if it's the same story
different year this year, but it should be a lot
of fun getting into the final five. Here may rob
to wrap up our top twenty five, I've got the
Oregon Ducks. That offense has looked elite all season long.
(01:15:01):
The defense also looked pretty good. Not quite top level,
but still, this is an Oregon team that people are
a little bit down on. They got a big win
last week. They continue that momentum this week. Big fan
LSU also sticks at number four for me. Their defense
has been so impressive. They beat Florida not super convincing,
Garrett Nussemeyer dealing with injuries. But if the defense can
(01:15:23):
continue to play like that, that's an LSU team that's
a serious title threat right now. Penn State I moved
back down to number three because I just liked Miami
too much. Penn State's done nothing wrong. They also haven't
done anything amazing that makes me say they have to
be number two. They have to be number one. They've
kind of flip flopped between the three and the two
(01:15:45):
spot all season for me, and at number two, that's
where that Miami team goes. Carson back looking like that
number one pick that he was supposed to be a
couple years ago. That Miami team is scary, especially now
that they have a defense. If they had cam Ward
and a defense defense last year, that team could have
won a national championship. They just simply did not have one.
Now they do. It is a much different vibe over
(01:16:08):
in Miami. But that, of course leaves number one the
number one team in the nation yet again. May Rob
it's those Ohio State buck guys. They are coasting off
of a win against Texas, a big win, maybe that
win isn't aging as nicely as we all thought it would,
But still Ohio State. I can't take him at a
(01:16:29):
number one right now. I was honestly very close to
putting Miami up there though I've been. I can't overstate
how much of a fan of this Miami team I
am this year, but Ohio State sticks to number one.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
For me, Miami at one would have been crazy, Jeremy.
If I saw Miami at one, I would have remembered
this list and I would have kept my eye on Miami.
I'm keeping my eye on them regardless, but at one
over the Ohio State Buck guys would have been crazy.
In my opinion, Ohio State looks like the best team
head and show there's above everyone in the SEC. The
(01:17:02):
Big Ten looks like the best conference, well in terms
of top tier talent, I mean taking over the play
with the best team in college football. I really have
the Buckey sitting at number one. Talking about Miami a
little bit though, I have October fourth circle because I
know they haven't played a whole lot of people. I
know they just played so South Florida. Who is still
(01:17:24):
sitting at that number twenty five spot For you, but
October fourth, that game in Florida State, Parson Beck is
going to have all the pressure in the world going
up against Tommy Costiano's especially if Florida State keeps this up.
I can't wait to see it.
Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Well, Boston College guy last year, shout out Tommy cast
shout out He's fun to watch. I like watching it.
But this this list, there is obviously a lot to
improve on. There is a lot more college football to watch.
But we will be back every single Tuesday with more
Top twenty five the TTS Top twenty five of course
(01:18:03):
for you, make sure you tune in every single week
for that. But we're gonna take our final break here
when we come back. A big fight, garnered big attention
and finished with big results. Terrence Bud Crawford forty two
and oh wow, what a fight that was. We'll break
that one down on a special may Rob Minutte coming
(01:18:23):
up next here on the Triple Thread Show. Welcome back
(01:20:58):
to the Triple Bret Show. We are your hosts, Jeremy
Lapitis and Mayra Fittemi. If you were just tuning in,
what are you doing? We've been here for like an
hour and twenty minutes. You missed a lot of good stuff,
winners and losers from week two. We talked a lot
about it the NFL. We also went over our Top
twenty five in college football, the only one hundred percent
(01:21:21):
correct list at all time. Of course, here on the
Triple Threat Show every single Tuesday. Remember you can check
us out on every single podcasting platform. Everywhere you could
possibly think to get a podcast, you'll find us The
Triple Threat Show there. Make sure you check us out
over there, as well as all over social media YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch,
(01:21:43):
everywhere you possibly think we are there, give us a follow.
We appreciate you, guys. But like I said heading into
your final segment here, there was a big, big fight,
a big fight this week, May a massive one, and
it delivered every possible way. Canelo versus Crawford. We saw
(01:22:03):
Terrence Bud Crawford stay undefeated forty two and oh, what
a fight. Talk to me about that on a special
May Rob minute.
Speaker 2 (01:22:16):
Tell him Jeremy forty two and oh, the thirty seven
year old takes down the thirty five year old. Obviously,
Canelo Alvarez has more of the fights. He has, He's
what sixty, He's now sixty three and three now in
his overall record as a fighter, but obviously Terrence Bud Crawford.
It proved Cardio proved to beat power once again. That
(01:22:37):
was the tale of the fight. It was Terrence Bud
Crawford getting everything he wanted inside. We saw Canello throw
a couple of those big shots. He can hit him
a couple times with that upper cot with that overhand right.
But you also saw every single time Crawford throw him
a smile, those eyes go wide in the corner every
time Crawford took one of those shots. It was a fun,
(01:22:59):
fun fight to see, and Crawford took that one pretty quickly,
and it wasn't quick fight. It went all twelve rounds,
but it gave out everything that it was advertised. In
my opinion, it was one of the biggest fights that
we've seen since probably Mac Mannipaciao versus Floyd Mayweather. It's
up there with the fight with Connor McGregor and Kabe
(01:23:21):
Mega Medov, even though that's UFC. But it was easily
one of the biggest fights in boxing and fights in
general that we've seen in a long long time. It
was a lot of fun to.
Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
See Yeah, nothing compares to in any card, any fighting sport,
any martial arts sport. Nothing compares to the draw of
a good boxing match, like a top top tier boxing match.
Boxing as a sport might be way trending downward, but
nothing draws eyes attention like a heavy heavyweight not necessarily heavyweight,
(01:23:52):
but a huge implication boxing match between very established fighters
like that. And we saw forty two million people Peak
watched that fight. That is insane. I want to take
this round by round a little bit, may Rob because
this fight had kind of stages, if you will. The
early stage they were kind of testing the waters a
little bit, which I feel like Canelo had to attack early.
(01:24:15):
You talked about it power versus endurance. Endurance wins when
it goes long. Canello, I don't know if it was
his fight team or him. They needed a better strategy
coming into that, especially early in the fight.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
No doubt about it. It looked like, especially later in
that fight, especially when that seventh eighth round hit, Canelo
was slowing down, that power wasn't hitting as much. He
was still hitting him, but there wasn't the shot, the force,
the ferocity was not behind those punches. It was actually
Crawford that was getting inside. It was the Crawford that
(01:24:49):
hit that second year and that took the control of
this fight going into that tenth round. But you bring
it up going in that first second, especially the first
and second round, it was just both of them just
feeling each other out. The first minute two minutes of
that fight, they didn't even hit each other. They're just
sitting there figuring out. It was actually Crawford using that
job for most of that fight, especially early in the
(01:25:11):
first six rounds of that fight. He used that jab
a lot. But I'm I think well, Canelo. Actually there
was actually a question Max Calluman got asked or Max
Calluman asked the question if we would see the fight
once again, if we would see a sequel, I would
honestly like to see it. These are two guys that
are getting up there in age, but honestly should go
(01:25:32):
out one more time, especially if Canelo can get another
game plan. Get some endurance down. Maybe not drop down weight,
but get some endurance, my friend, because you can't be
gassing out in the eighth round of a twelve round fight,
because you are pretty much guaranteeing yourself phoned and a
loss if you can't get that knockout.
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
Yeah, you bring up the future for these guys, and
I think that's the next place that we kind of
want to go here because you mentioned their ages thirty seven,
thirty five respectively, kind of getting up there when it
comes to boxing, like just athletics in general. And we've
seen Canelo kind of wind down. It seemed like he
was trying to avoid this fight, but the bag was
just too much one hundred and fifty million from reports
(01:26:12):
for him. You can't turn down one hundred and fifty
million to you know, potentially get a legacy fight for you.
That to me felt like a final calling card for Canelo.
At least Crawford. I could see him go out there.
He's got that and I don't know if it's really
in reach, but he's got that fifty to oh Floyd
(01:26:32):
Mayweather record just outside of reach. If he was like
three years younger, I would say he has a real
shot at it. Is there a shot that both of
these guys, either of these guys retire and Bud Crawford,
does he have a shot at catching Mayweather? Passing Mayweather
at that undefeated fifty to fifty one to.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
Zero, I personally do not have him catching Mayweather. I
think that'd be He's already thirty seven. This guy fights
about once a year, maybe twice a year if you're lucky.
He just fights now in the middle of September. He
probably won't fight again until maybe April May at the earliest.
(01:27:14):
He's thirty seven years old, and he's got a whole family.
These are guys that have lives outside of the fighting industry.
They're not young whipper snappers at the age of twenty
nine just going bouncing back after a fight. They're not
Alex Pereira that will fight three times in six months,
especially in boxing the way that these camps roll around.
It's just tough to say, but I expect Canalo to
(01:27:36):
probably maybe he fights one more time and then calls
it a career. But when I'm looking at Crawford, I
think he gets to forty five and then calls it.
I just don't think he The last thing I want
to bring up, the last time that we saw Canelo
get beat the way he did last night was when
he was a young guy going up against Floyd Mayweather.
When Floyd Mayweather took him out the way that he did,
(01:27:58):
and that was another one of these matchups where it
was endurance against cart against power, because we always remember
Floyd Mayweather had one of the best cardios in the
game once upon a time.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Yeah, I mean his defense, right, That's what Majim made
him legendary. He just waited for his opening and just
play defense and it worked. Of course, it worked because
fifty one to zero at this point Floyd Mayweather. But
I do want to talk about because there's really interesting
comparisons between Crawford and Mayweather. Those are the two guys
that are in that conversation, especially after this fight. Of
(01:28:30):
course you talk about the undefeated record, that's a big
part of it, right, But also these guys, like you said,
have very similar I won't say the same, but similar
kind of fighting styles when it comes to how to
deal with their opponents. They both got knockout power, no
doubt about it, but you know, it's different ways of
dealing with your opponent. And I don't necessarily want to
(01:28:53):
get into legacy, but I do want to get into
legacy here. I don't want to be that the only
conversation about this fight, but the legacy here was a
huge component of this fight. Honestly, whoever won this fight,
was gonna get a massive notch in their belt. I
heard people saying they the winner of this fight would
be on the Mount Rushmore of boxing. How does this
get him? Get these guys, get Crawford, especially with this victory,
(01:29:16):
to compare all time to the greats of the sport.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
I think if Canello had won this fight, it would
have cemented him in the Mount Rushmore. Especially if he
took out Crawford. With his record he already has, he
would put him. It would make him a sixty fourth win.
He's probably he's one of the most active boxers in
the history in PBA history. But I think when you're
(01:29:42):
looking at Terrence Bud Crawford, it would it would absolutely
put him to the two division champion, one of the
best of all time. I just don't know with his
record if it'll put him in that conversation. If he
won a sequel, if he won a second fight against Alvarez,
maybe I could put him in that conversation because that
probably solidify himself as better than Alvarez, even though he
(01:30:03):
probably is already. That's just my take, But I don't know.
When I'm looking at Crawford, I just don't know where
you go from here. I'm also not very well versed
when it comes to the boxing world, so I'm not
one hundred percent sure who would be next to Jeremy.
Do you have any idea of who would be next?
Speaker 1 (01:30:20):
There's not a lot of guys that are bigger than
Alvarez man, not too many guys that are bigger than Canelo.
Speaker 2 (01:30:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
I mean when he hit the pinnacle, he kind of
just gotta defend your crown for the new and upcomers.
But that's tough to do when you're thirty seven and
you're going up against these guys that are twenty five,
twenty six. You know, that's not a general advantage for you.
It can bey. We've seen older fighters win. But Crawford
(01:30:46):
is a guy that's gonna pick and choose his fights carefully.
He's gonna want to keep that undefeated record attack. So
if he does go again, I think it'll go up
against some of these guys that were of his time,
the legends of his time. I don't know, I don't
I don't think that Mayweather would come out of retirement
(01:31:07):
and do a do like a sanctioned fight kind of thing.
But I think you could see like an unofficial kind
of fight with him. You've seen him do it before
for the money. He did it with the Paul Brothers
one time. That was like six years ago, and Mayweather's
a lot older. But we also saw Mike Tyson go
out there and fight in a unsanctioned match, or not
an unsanctioned match, a match, an unofficial match, So that
(01:31:31):
could be next. That would get a lot of draws.
That would be a big bag. But really, I guess
a sequel is the most likely kind of thing to
one up yourself after.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
This, I think so. I mean, putting Floyd Mayweather go
a forty eight year old Floyd Mayweather up against thirty
seven year old Crawford would be crazy. If we thought
Paul versus Tyson was crazy, this would be up there
for that type of comparison. That would just be crazy.
I don't think Floyd Mayweather would do it unless he
(01:32:03):
got like maybe like a billion dollars, which in that
case put me in a ring with Mike. With Floyd Mayweather,
I'll fight him for a billion dollars. But I just
don't see I just don't see it. When I'm looking
at the world boxing rankings, I can't really tell who
Crawford would fight next. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
(01:32:25):
I think his best option, especially with his age, he
just wants to fight another He wants to fight legends
of the sport. It would probably just be an Alvarez
super fight a second fight, But I just don't see
if it. I just don't know if it's gonna happen
for sure. It's really really tough to say.
Speaker 1 (01:32:41):
I will say may Rob and there were discussions before
this fight that Crawford I forget who was either Crawford
or Alvarez. I'm pretty sure was Crawford was in discussions
to fight Jake Paul Like that was a thing that
was in discussion. Uh, so it could happen. It's not
(01:33:02):
gonna happen now that he's shown that he can still,
you know, dish it out. I don't think. But the
bag is the bag man, and a lot of times
the money speaks louder than anything else that you want
to do. So there's a lot to look forward to
in the sport of boxing with these guys up top.
But that was a very special fight. Twelve rounds. Terrence
(01:33:22):
Bud Crawford stays undefeated, a perfect forty two and zero,
a big time win against one of the legends of
the sport in Canelo Alvarez. I'll leave you the last word,
may Rob here on the Triple Threat Show. Anything that
you want to talk about, leave us off with before
we sign off for tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Yeah, let's keep our eyes out for the MLB. Let's
keep our eye on on Colin Rawley. We're probably that's
gonna be a preview for our show for tomorrow. We're
gonna be talking a big day in the MLB, big
day in Thursday Night Football, and well previewing Thursday Night
Football obviously, and m let's keep our eye on the
MLB playoff starter right around the corner. What are we?
(01:34:05):
Two weeks out? Just about weeks out? Just about there,
right around the corners. My friend, who's gonna get there?
I know the Nationals aren't gonna get there. Maybe the
Red Sox can sneak in. But let's keep our eye
out and let's have a great week. We'll see you
guys tomorrow night for another great show.
Speaker 1 (01:34:21):
Have a good one. Bye bye,
