Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hello and welcome to Trep Talk here on Saga nine
sixty AM. Thank you so much for coming along here
again on Saga nine sixty or wherever you get your
favorite podcast. I'm Brendan Lang alongside Mikey K Mike Caravlius.
We are two broadcasters for the Brampton Steelheads. We'll get
into their past weekend going one and one of course,
picking up a huge win against the Gelth Storms. We'll

(00:36):
get into those games a little bit further on in
the show, but before we do that, Mikey hasn't been
going here for the past week.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Oh good, everything's been good. You know, Halloween of course
it's today, so well whatever, it will be whatever, and yeah,
so you don't getting ready for that. My son was
a cheetah going to school today and tonight he's gonna
be Spider Man, so he's all excited for that. And
I'll be at home giving out the candy and all

(01:05):
that kind of stuff. So yeah, the week has been good,
busy of course, and getting ready for another exciting weekend
coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
So yeah, yeah, it should be an exciting week watching.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yes, yes, yeah, good.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, I was I was happy to I mean, I
don't like either team, and I don't really care if
either team won, but I just I couldn't stomach the
Yankees winning a World Series, especially with their fans. I
just like I couldn't couldn't stomach it. And and I
like some players on the Dodgers, like I like Freddy Freeman,
quite a bit guy who is American but has played
for Canada multiple times because both of parents are Canadian,

(01:43):
so big respect for that playing. Of course, his mom
died when he was ten from skin cancer, so playing
for Canada for that reason. Like, I've always been a
big fan of Freddie Freeman. Mookie Bets seems like a
like a decent guy. So you know, there's some guys
on the Dodgers that I don't mind. And the Yankees,
especially being in the American leaguees playing against the Jays
all the time. He just you can't see that happening. Yeah,

(02:05):
and I think the better team won anyways. I think
the Dodgers were the best team of the league, so
that's yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
It was.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
It was a quick series, but it was a good series.
I mean Game one was good with the Grand Slam
by Freeman. Yesterday saw the Yankees fall apart in the
fifth inning with air after air, So it was Yeah,
it was a pretty solid series, I think. I think
the playoffs as a whole were pretty exciting. So we're
into the offseason. Now, we'll be without baseball for a
little bit, but that means we'll get more into more
into hockey, and for myself, more into football for myself

(02:37):
because usually, like I don't, I don't really pay attention
to football until the World Series is done. So now
is when football season really starts for me. So I'll
be I'll be a little more locked into the NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
But hey, look, look, I'll say this, and I'll say
this again, and I'll say it's Ober and over again.
If the Yankees had five Canadians on the team, I
wouldn't care. I won't even I wouldn't vote for them.
I cannot stay in the fans. I can outstand, you know,
I just I just can't stand the Yankees. How about
that guy in the and the beachers making that trying

(03:08):
to an idiot, rips the arm off of Lookie Betts
and goes in his glove and all that. Oh my gosh,
that's funny.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Oh that was crazy. And then and they said they
were gonna because they were kicked out and then they
said they're going to be let in for Game five.
But then Major League Baseball was like, no, there's no
way these guys are I don't think so good. They
should have been banned. That was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, dangerous man.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah, yeah, it was ridiculous. And the fact that he's
like going around, he's like touring to he was at
like Barstool Sports doing interviews. He was signing autographs at
the bar after the game, Like what is that?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
You know, it's funny he was. He was ron grunkoust
he can he's buddies with him apparently.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Yeah, said they went to the same college and he's.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
A big hockey guy. Apparently played hockey and stuff and
whatever and this and that, and I was like, what
is going on here? Like anyway, yeah, and Barstool, like
you said, taking pictures and and all this kind of
stuff and come on, come.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
On, yeah, come on, super weird.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah that guy should be banned for life for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I agree with that. Yes, pretty ridiculous. But anyways, that's
the baseball talk out of the way. Other than that
for me, same week as always, So let's get into
some hockey. Yeah, we'll start with, uh, we'll start with
the game that they played at home most recently this
past weekend against the Barry Colts. They lose that one,
six to four. It's the third time already they played

(04:31):
the Barry Colts. It seems like we see them every
other day. So we're gonna be seeing a little more
of them here, not too long in the future either.
But the Colts are a strong team and the Steelheads,
Ivan Kovic's first game back, couldn't pick up a win
in that one.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, that was a tough one. I mean they got
off to a three to one lead in that game.
I Steelheads him, and everything was looking good. The compete
level was good, you know, and then all of a sudden,
the compete level again just wasn't there. So again, you know,
James Richmond always talks about he talks about sixty minutes
of compete level to be there. Sixty minutes. It wasn't

(05:08):
there again. But some bright spots in that game, I
mean Luke Misa with two goals in that game broke
out because ak but Angus MacDonell is out with an
ank or sorry with a lower lower body injury. So
Luke Misa got moved up to that first line. I mean, hey,
he contributed right away with Carson Raykoff and Port of

(05:31):
Martona with two goals and assists, and Carson Raykoff and
the goals and two assists, mister consistency of course, the
Razor and Port of Marton of course, mister consistency with
two assists in that game as well. But yeah, it
was a tough one. It was a tough one. The
compete level, I think it was just a compete level.
If they were able to compete for sixty minutes, I
don't think this it would have been like a six

(05:51):
six to four game or six to three whatever it was,
but it should have been. I mean, why did bold Jeosman?
Really did he have to put that puck in with
one second left? No, he could have just ridden that
puck out in the corner. But whatever, I'm sure the
skillous I can remember that.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yeah remember, Yeah, yeah, I think they will. I mean,
you know, it is what it is. And the game
was over at that point. So, uh, six four pretty
much five four. Like you said, they scored with maybe
point five seconds left, And I think you're right with
the with the compete level, James Richmond has talked about
it so many times this year when we've talked to
him in his office before games, and he just wants to,

(06:26):
like you said, a full sixty minutes, just wants to
see them. They've gotten off to good starts this year
a lot of the time, and they just haven't been
able to sustain it for for a whole game. And
that was again evident there against Barry up three to
one in the second period, it looked like, okay, you know,
they got their their starter back. I'van Covid getting back
into his into his groove, and it looked like, Okay,
they're gonna be a They're up, they should be able

(06:48):
to hold onto this lead, and it just wasn't meant
to be. Obviously. Also, like you did mention there, Angus
Mactonel being out, that's a huge blow for the Steelheads.
Do we know an exact timeline on what's Yeah, I
when I interviewed uh, when I interviewed Jr.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Before the game for the pre pregame Coach's Chat, he
said about four weeks. He said, no body injury. So yeah,
so we'll see, we'll see what materializes out of that.
But maybe he'll be more or less with with Angus, right,
because he's a he's a warrior, so that hopefully he'll
be uh back in time, but at least the steel

(07:25):
Heads a little bit short handed, right.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
M hmm. It does. And and the guy who took
his spot on the top line, Luke Mesa, you'd said
that too. He'll be on our show here and in
a little bit, so we'll be able to talk to
him about how the season's going so far. But he
responded right away. I mean that was huge to get
Luke Masa going. And now you look at it, he's
got ten points in the in the eleven games of
the Steelers are played this year, and he's right back

(07:47):
up there at almost a point per game. So I think, yes,
you are definitely now with Mac toonell out and obviously
you don't want to see any players go out, and
and especially a guy at his caliber and contributing to
the team that like he was early on this year.
And it'll kind of open up some different spots down
in the lineup. But having a guy like me so
that you could plug into the top line is a
pretty good luxury.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, oh definitely, I mean you could put him on
the top line. You can kind of move pieces around,
you can move thee Beskie up to the second line
and whatnot. So that's a luxury right now of that,
but they still need that full lineup right definitely moving forward.
It's it's a really tough They've had a really tough schedule,
and they got a tough November coming up. I mean,

(08:31):
looking at their schedule right now, a lot a lot
of road games, a lot of it, and this is
I mean, they got to go to North Bay, they
got to go to Ottawa, they got to go to Kingston,
they gotta go to Saganaw, they gotta go to Sernia,
I mean in Eerie again and Branford. So that's not easy.
I mean I haven't played Peterborough yet like most like
Goshua generals have like fifty times, right so and let's

(08:54):
just look at it, look at it that way. But anyway, now,
but yeah, so tough schedule coming up, so we'll see
what happened.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
All right. We do have Luke Neisa waiting here, but
quickly just before we go to him. I mean, it
was a ten to one game, so I don't know
how much analysis you can really give for it, but
you were in the building for a the GWELF game.
So what do you see of Nolan Well.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
First career hat trick for Adam Zidluki, which is cool,
three three goals and two assists. Luke Misa another two goals,
so four goals and three assists and two games for
young Luke and Jack. Ivan Kovic was absolutely phenomenal. Thirty
nine saves and forty shots. Portamartine was amazing. Carson raykoff
again with three points in that game. So I mean,

(09:34):
it just they just keep on a rolling. So in
the Kpete level was good. Four lines. You were just
going and going and going. That's obviously a total team
effort in that game. Ten to one final.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Yeah, I mean, and like you said, you think about
the offense all the time in at tend to one game.
But Ivankovic was great. I think it was forty shots
given up too, and he was He was great in
that game. So all right, we will take a break
here and then on the other side we will have
Brampton Steelheads forward Luke Neis on the program. You're listening
to trout Talk here on se nine sixty am, and

(10:03):
welcome back to trout Talk. Here on Saga nine sixty
am Brandon Lang along with mikey K Mike Carefelitis. Thank
you for coming along on the radio or wherever you
get your favorite podcast. Now joining the show is Brampton
Steele heads forward Luke Misa Luke, thanks for coming on.
How are you doing good?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Are you?

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Thanks for having me on here?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Doing well? So we were just talking about the past
two games this this weekend. We'll just maybe give us
your your thoughts on the on the two games this
past weekend against Barry and then against well.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Well yeah, against Barry, well, I think both games we
played well. I think, you know, Barry, we started off well.
We've gone to a bit of penalty trouble later in
the game, but you know, like if we kind of
cut out like a little bit in the second. I
think the first and third we played well but just
weren't able to get the job done. But we kind

(10:55):
of bounced back well and had a really good game
against Twelf. Everyone was kind of a one.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah, you guys definitely were rolling against TWELF. I'll tell
you that. I mean during the broadcast I had to
talk about football for a little bit and stuff. So
to keep things keep things interesting because the Browns actually
won that game, so I had to talk to all that.
But anyways, so you guys were definitely rolling that game.
Uh Luke, You've been moved up to the to the
to the first line because of the injury. While the

(11:21):
injury dang is Macdonellen. You're just flourishing up there with
those two guys. How much does that help you with
your game?

Speaker 3 (11:29):
You know what? I think, you know, being able to
play with both them has been good so far, and
just you know, uh being able to kind of use
my speed and play with them. You know, they've been
working really well together over the whole course of the year.
So I think, you know, over the last two games,
I've really been able to kind of bury some of

(11:50):
my chances and I'm just looking forward to keep going.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
And I don't think we've gotten a chance to talk
to you on the on the air since of course
the offseason. Getting drafted by the Calgary Flame. So how
was the how was the experience and all that?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
It was really cool, Like going down to Vegas was
awesome just to be there with like a lot of
my family and then you know, the draft happens, I
get picked by Calgary, and then I'd say about two
days later, I fly down there for like summer development camp,
which was really cool, just to meet all the staff
and all the guys that just got drafted as well. Like,

(12:27):
you know, the summer camp was really good. Like trained
during the off season, and then went back during September,
and you know it was the same thing, like really
cool to be able to kind of play with the
actual logo on your jersey for the first time. And
then I was also able to get into a preseason game,
which was really cool. We played against Edmonton, which you know,

(12:48):
it was just really cool experience.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Talk about that feeling, you know, talk about the feeling
step it out on the ice for your first preseason game.
I mean, nerves must have been going shot and you know,
how did you calm yourself down?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Well, yeah, no, there's definitely a lot of nerves just
because you know, like you kind of see their lineup
as well, and you're playing against you know, like all
their top guys like David's and their dry settles in there,
like all the guys, so you got it Like, yeah,
I was a bit nerve wracking, but I think once
you get out there and just start to play like
just really just really enjoyed it.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
You're really thrown into the fire in your first Gamely.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Did they escape by you and say hey kid, you know,
good luck or anything like that. Nothing like that, or
like you know look over and say yeah whatever kid
like that. Nothing.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
No, not really no.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
In in your own camp in Calgary, and we were
talking to a Spencer or Sova i think last week
and he was with New Jersey this year and just
kind of talking about different players that he saw there.
So how about you, like, who are some of the
guys that maybe kind of took you under their wing
and you got to you got to know a little
bit in Calgary.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Well, you know, I think just being able to meet
all of the guys that just got drafted in the
summer and then getting to play with them again, you know,
you come back, you know them a lot better and
then we start to like, yeah, just be able to
play a lot with them. But you know, like as
the main camp started, like being around like a lot
of the NHL and HL guys, it was really cool

(14:23):
just to be able to see like the pro style
habits and you know how much attention the detail I
have when they're practicing, and I think I learned a
lot of it.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Who's one guy, who's the first guy when you walked
into the building, when you walked into building, who was
the first guy to say welcome? You know?

Speaker 3 (14:40):
I just say, you know, everyone was pretty welcoming, like
all the staff and everything. I don't know if there's
anyone in particular, but yeah, everyone was really good and welcoming.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
We're talking about of course players that that you're playing with.
You got to play against your brother here not that
long ago to to Brampton, first time you got to
play against him at home, hadn't hadn't played against him
in Mississauga? So how was how was that game was there?
Like I think Mike he asked you during the game,
like did you hope for dinner after?

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Like?

Speaker 1 (15:10):
How is the whole situation.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
You were thinking about that you were you were you
were dial died just to say so now you can talk.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
About I know it was awesome playing against him and
you know, like it was his first time playing in Mississauga,
but Brampton just playing in here on the way, so yeah,
like a lot of our family came. It was yeah,
like we don't play against each other too much. So
it's always really cool for us to be able to
play against each other.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
That's so awesome. So then when you guys went out,
So then when you guys, did you guys meet up
after the game for dinner like you're saying, and then
it was just talking talk is off or you guys
just like you know, yeah at each other kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Yeah, just talking about you know, how things have been
down inside, because like I talked to him on text
a lot, but I don't really see him a lot
during the season, so it was nice to catch up
with them. And then they played the next day in Oshaua.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
So yeah, they were pretty on there.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Yeah, I want to go down and watch the game,
was all there.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
I was that close to going to that game, you
know that, guys. I was that close just to go
and just to just for fun. I don't know why.
I think I just wanted to go. I was that close.
And then I went outside and then I said, no,
forget it. I don't think so when I came and
I watched on TV. But anyway, that's so awesome. Can
you imagine having a brother playing like You're like, like,
I don't have any brothers. I have two sisters, just

(16:31):
to say, right, and I always wish I had a
brother and just to have that feeling playing against your
brother or whatever, like man, and especially at this level,
I don't know, I know, I wouldn't even be I
wouldn't even be talking to them, that's me. It was
my brother, would I wouldn't be saying I'm talking smack
to him. I'd be sitting around the other side or whatever.

(16:51):
But anyways, that's so weird. That's just a great feeling,
like just to say that's good stuff.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Yeah, and growing up, are you guys, like did you
you on the same team at all or were usually
like rivals against each other with their battles going on?
Like what was the.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
Dynamic like like against my brother. Yeah, well yeah, just
because of our age difference, we never really got to play.
I think we played on the same team like once
or twice, but like you know, like just because of
our age gap, like he's O seven m five, there
wasn't really any chances to like actually play together on
the same team. But yeah, like we both played on

(17:28):
really good teams growing up.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
So that's so awesome. All right, So let's circle back
now to the team of course, Uh, big, big, big
wins this weekend. Of course. You know we talked about twelve.
You know, you guys are just rolling, I mean tund
to one. I total team effort, I guess you could say,
but for yourself, you're just I mean, have you gotten
faster or something. It seems like you got faster to
me the last couple of games. And uh this weekend

(17:53):
coming up a big three and three. I mean you've
got North Bay big divisional games and you're playing it
at Sarnia team that is very very good as well
in the Western Conference. So I was practice, how's practice
right now leading up to that?

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Uh, practice has been They've been good so far. I
think everyone's really excited to get going for this three
and three because we know, like this is a really
big few games here just because like North Bay's in
our division as well. So yeah, we're all huge ready
to go.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
And you talked a little bit about it at the
beginning of the show, moving up to the first line
of course, with with mactanel getting getting injured, playing now
with with Martone and Raykoff, so kind of talking about
what Mike he was saying with practice, you know, how
has it been he got thrown into the game, of
course playing with the but now having a couple of
days to kind of get acquainted with them now throughout
throughout the week.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Well, yeah, they're both really skilled players. So you know,
like I played with Marty a lot last year, so
I know I've been able to kind of already have
good chemistry with him. And you know, Raykoff's also really
skilled player, so they're pretty easy to work along with.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Fuse here from the OHL. You had four goals, three
assists on the weekend, right, and you were a plus
four I believe. Let me just look at this here.
I think you're a plus four, but you're always a
plus so you're a plus two there, bear with me here,
sorry about this. And you were yes, yes, no, you're

(19:21):
a plus three right? Whoops? No, you were a plus
yeah three, I believe, yes, So your plus three on
the weekend, Okay, four goals, three assists, My mind should
have been up there for some kind of honor. But anyways,

(19:42):
do you have a do you have anything for this? Uh?
Anything in your mind? Do you remember two years ago
when North Bay knock knocked the Steelheads all the playoffs?
Is that in your mind. Are you going to keep
that for motivation, you know, for the guys kind of thing,
or you know, to speak up or.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, no, that's always in our mind.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I think I'll never forget that.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
You know, like when teams knock you out in the playoffs,
your every time you play against them, you know, like
you're you want to prove them wrong, and you always
got to. You come into those games with a big
chip on your shoulder just because of what happened in
the past. So I think, yeah, we're definitely going to
be ready to go for those games.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
And just recently you got Ivan Kovid back in the
net from you guys back from suspension. Gibbons played pretty well,
you know when he when he was thrown in there.
But how much how much of a factor is it
when you when you get your starting goalie back and
maybe just kind of like for comfortability on the ice.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, well, Jack's been awesome for us. I think he's uh,
you know, he got off to a really good start
and played well. I've been playing well, really well this
whole year, so you know, it's always good to have
him back behind us to to help us out.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Look, if you weren't in hockey, just to say, what
would you want to be? I've always wanted to ask
you that. I never you know, all at the three
years i've known you, I've never asked you that. So
not mastering. If you weren't a hockey what would you
want to be? For me? I could see you being
a doctor for some reason, a really good doctor, in
and out, in and out making millions. Here's the thing.

(21:11):
You're good, You're good. What would you want to be?
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
I'd say probably something to do with business. I'm not
exactly like sure, but kind of being like a business guy.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
I could see that definitely vice or a company or something.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
We we asked the same thing to to Rake Off
and he said that he would want it to be
a football player. So along those lines, did you play
any other sports growing up? If there was another sport
that you weren't playing outside of hockey? What would what
would that be?

Speaker 3 (21:44):
If I were to play like another Oh? Like did
I play sports?

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Yeah? Like I played lacrosse. I still like to play
golf a lot during the summers. Yeah, lacrosse and hockey.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
What am I?

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Where are my main two sports?

Speaker 2 (21:58):
How about curling? You ever tried curling. Oh, it's tough.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
I'd like to throw.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
I've never heard that. They make it look so easy.
It's one time, never again. I'll tell you that. The
way they slide and the way they throw the things,
you know, like I remember I slam sliding all over
the place, right, I'm like, throw the thing down whatever.
But it's tough. It's tough. Yeah. Those guys that they
they're like they make good money for a reason like this. Me.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Yeah, yeah, I've never I've never tried it either. I'd
like to try. A lot of people in my family
actually curl. I'd like to try. How is how is
your how's your golf game? In the summer? You mentioned
that you like to like to play.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
It's it's gone, it's getting there, Like yeah, uh, I
like last summer I didn't play a ton, so I
kind of had to get back into it this summer.
But you know, i'd say I played about like ten
fifteen rounds this summer in a decent amount, So you know,
it's it's getting there. It's getting I'd say, like maybe
like shooting I don't know, high eighties, low nineties, that's good.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Right, Hey, wow, better than me too. Better than me
that the golf tournament. I stopped the last three les, right,
I went left, I went straight up to the I'll
see you guys up there anyway. Look, now, you know
what the mindset right now, I mean, we're not we're

(23:25):
so early in the season right now, right we eleven
games in something like that, six four and one. You
guys are right now, the mindset is still the same,
Like everybody's still intense, and you know what's what's the
mindset right now with everybody?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
You know, Well, I just think focusing on the next
couple of weekends because we have two, three and threes
coming up, some games on the road as well. So
for some of like like for some of the younger guys,
it's their first time actually going on the road with
the team mm hmm, like like staying in a hotel
sort of way. So we're really excited for it, and

(24:02):
you're just wanting to get all the points we can
from these games.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
And you mentioned the road trip. You're going to Kingston
and Ottawa, and like you said, the young guys maybe
their first time, so how can you kind of help
them out? I mean, obviously it's kind of a different
scenario for them going on a road trip for the
first time in the ohl mm hmmm.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
I'd say just you know, like being on the road
for the first time, like there's you got to prepare
a little different, just because you're constantly traveling around on
the bus. And you know, like even staying in Ottawa,
it's gonna be pretty cool just because like it's a
big city there. So it's gonna be good for both them.
For for some of the younger guys on their first

(24:39):
road trips, and I'm sure they're looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
I talk about this is the first three and three
for the team this weekend, leaving leading for the game
or leading for north by right after the game against Sarnia,
and do you remember your first time doing that and
what you can relate to the guys, to the younger
guys kind of thing. What would you say to them, Well.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
That like, yeah, like for a three and three like this,
like you know, it can get tiring just because like
you're traveling and you're playing three games in three a's,
But I think just being able to kind of push
through it and sometimes like if you're you know, like
in that third game and you're kind of just really
trying to work through it, like maybe trying, you know,
simplify your game things like that. But yeah, it should

(25:22):
be good. It's exciting, and.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
We got a few minutes left here before we let
you go with it being Halloween at the time of
the recording. When this comes out, it won't be Halloween,
but at the time it is. So what's what's your
favorite candy Halloween? Halloween candy? Do you have a favorite
costume that you had growing up? Just kind of your
favorite experiences?

Speaker 3 (25:42):
My favorite candy, honestly, I'd say, like I like gummy,
so I'd say, like some Maynards like different things. Yeah,
like I don't.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
I'm not chocolate no, okay, interesting.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I like more like the canes things like that. And
I'm trying to think of my favorite costume growing up.
Mm hmm. One time I was a dressed up as
like when I was younger, I'd be like a morph
that was kind of.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Like the classic.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
But there were a couple other costumes like I did.
I was a cowboy one time for the for the
game when we came in. Yes, like last time, I
put on like a Bart Simpson mask and work with
my suit. Yeah, good ones.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
What what were you last year? We were talking to
Fibgure and he said he was a telet hobby, which
is hilarious.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Year.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Yeah, I don't think what I was last year. I
don't Yeah, I don't fully remember that. Sorry, I don't
really remember it was last year.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Sorry. One year I was Cookie Monster for Halloween. That
was probably just to say, yeah, yeah, I had to
go along with the boy. Right. So then he looks up,
he sees the cookie Monster. He doesn't get scared of
his daddy kind of thing. So, but yeah, lots of fun. Look,
you know what your work. The candy you don't like,
the most one candy you just can't stand. If somebody
put in your bag, you'd be like, what is this.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
I'd press say, there's a couple like chocolate bars that
I don't like too much, Like I.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Just I'm not a chocolate chocolate Okay, all right? How
about those little those little candies. You don't talk about
those little that they're they're so cheap. They're like little
roll ups. Yeah yeah, yeah, you know, yeah exactly those
and they throw them in the bag.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
I'm like, yeah, thank you, say something under my breath.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Cheap those are the worst for me. So chocolate.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
That's yeah, that's a tough one. Sometimes people would throw
like bags of microwavable hopcorn in there, and I'd be like,
really that, I mean, it's an interesting one.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Yeah, microwave back yepcorn.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
There you just went in their coverage and found anything.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Uncle whatever the colonel there you go. Yeah, God my god, copcorn.
That's awesome. Oh yeah, wow, yeah, I don't think I've
ever had that. But the worlds chocolate though? How about
twigs are your twist? Guy, Luke? Like, what's going on?
You got like some kind of chocolate.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Kind of think of chocolate bar because I don't really
have a.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Ton of chocolate. Yeah, chips, grace is okay, that's a
good one. That's good.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah, that's good to be.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Honest, like, I haven't really had a ton of chocolate bars. Like,
I don't know. I just never really liked him as much.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Yeah, fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
How about the chips must be happy?

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (28:55):
I love chips.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah. Yeah. I always looked like, I don't know about you,
but would you, Luke, would you look to see what
they had or would.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
You just like kind of no, I'd like usually had
you know, usually I try and check what they had. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
sometimes they'll offer you like what you want to but
oh yeah, would.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
You like this? Would you like to roll ups? He?
Would you like or would you like the kids? I'll
have the chips please. Yeah, you're right though, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Oh man, all right, Luke, thank you, thanks for coming on,
thank you coming on, and we will see you.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
For me, last time for me. Sorry about this, last
time for me, Luke. Keep it up. You're you're really
really doing well, and uh keep up that intensity level
and uh big three and three coming up, and thanks
for coming on, Brendan.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, just thanks for coming on and
good luck the rest of the way going forward this year,
and we'll talk to you throughout the year at the
rink and probably on here again at some point.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
So thanks, see you soon.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
Thanks, Thanks guys, thank you, and that is Steel.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
It's forward Luke Mesa here on trout Talk. I'm Brendan Lang.
That's Mikey.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Kay.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
You're listening to Saga ie sixty am and we'll be
back right after this. He Welcome back to trout Talk
here on Saga nine sixty am. I'm Brendan Lang alongside
Mikey k Mike Carefulitis again on Saga nine sixty or
wherever you get your favorite podcasts, possibly watching on YouTube.
Thanks for watching, Thanks for listening. Just spoke to grapt

(30:28):
to steel us forward now on the top line, Luke Misa,
Mikey it was it's interesting he doesn't like chocolate. We
can get to that maybe in a bit.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
That was it.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
That's that's one that I haven't heard.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
I've never heard.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I haven't but hey, everybody, everybody's got their things, so it's.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Yeah, I can't stand those things. I wonder. Yeah they
probably still do.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Yeah, you can.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Someone I check my son's bag and stuff.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
After that, I'll tell a funny Halloween thing I used
to do with my friends. But let's talk about the
interview here first. Great too great to hear from Luke,
of course, and just so interesting hearing him talk about
you asked him about the mindset of the team, and
you know, even though there's kind of been a little
bit of struggles here in recent days, the mindset hasn't shifted,
and I think that's obviously kind of coming down from

(31:17):
the coaching staff and the leadership group on this team.
And even though Luke doesn't have a letter. You know,
he's part of that leadership group as well, So yeah,
he's definitely helping, you know in that in that sense.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Yeah, Luke's more like you know, it's like how Angus
McDonell said it earlier in the year. You know, you
may have a letter, but everybody's still a leader in there, right, right,
and he's one of them. I mean, he's definitely one
of them. He's a quiet leader. You know, he's not
a row ron kind of guy, and we all know that.
You know, he's a quiet leader, right, and he leads
by example. That's one hundred percent. But yeah, they're gonna

(31:51):
they're gonna need that this weekend coming up. But they're
gonna have to compete at They got North Bay twice.
They've got North Bay twice Friday and Sunday and say
against the Sarnia's thing quick turnarounds both games too, Right,
They're gonna need that compete level. The compete level I'm
gonna keep saying this as a recording has to be
sixty minutes, keep that momentum going from Gwelph I tend

(32:12):
to one victory where it was just line after line
after line was just clicking so hopefully they can keep
that going, which I'm sure they will and have that
in their mind too about North Bay, and that's why
I mentioned it to Luke, and it's nice how he
said it, you know, yeah, of course, you know, we
always keep it in the back of our mind, how
teams eliminate us, you know, whatever, beat us or whatever,

(32:34):
especially North they did two years ago. So I think
that's gonna be in the back of their mind, and
I think they're going to I think they'll take both
games against North Bay, that's my opinion.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
And like you mentioned too, they're huge games with them
being in the division, and I mean all those games
maybe or I mean they don't necessarily matter more, but
they kind of do. When you play against teams that
you see all the time, you know there's a rivalry
that's a budding between those two teams, and I mean
started a couple of years ago, like you mentioned, with
with them being eliminated. And that's also something that is

(33:05):
good that he that he kind of touched on, is
playing against these teams that eliminate you. You never forget that
kind of stuff. So you know that they're going to
come out and the games between those two teams are
always always good, always action packed, so definitely looking forward
to those and and yeah, it would be huge to
be able to take take both of them. Now we
can talk a little bit about the three and three.

(33:25):
It's it's difficult, like he was saying, you know, with
with some younger players on the team, and most of
the guys on the roster are now older, and and
they're they're a team that's that's going for it, so
they've been through it. But first three and three of
the season is always going to be a different kind
of grind.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
I mean, most likely Cartwright and Paton are going to
be long in this trip. I think that they invest
Sulk as well. So those are the three young guys, right,
so I don't think they'll have a problem. They shouldn't have,
prob We'll see if they you know, it's tough. It's tough,
so it's not it's not going to be easy for

(33:59):
them to stuf like that. But it's good to have
the older guys, especially with an older team that the
Steelheads are this year, that they can help them to
adjust and whatnot. And Luke me says, one of them
that can probably help out, and any of them just
to say, right, so that's how tight this team is.
And I know I keep saying it's cliche. Every team
says they're tight, they're tight, they're tight. This seems really tight.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
And just to say, you know, we're talking about the
three and three as well, Brandon steel Heads. Right now,
we only got eleven games played Brendan and North Bay
has fourteen, so they got three games in hand on
the battalion, right, just to say, they got three games
in the battalion, two games in hand on the first place. Wow.
So the Steelers have played the second least in Eastern Conference,

(34:43):
actually them and the Branford Bulldogs. So two games in
hand on the Agar, three games in hand on Oshawa,
three games in sorry, yeah, three games in hand against
North Bay, right, one game in hand against Sudbury. It's
pretty good. I mean, you know, they know people are saying, ah, well,

(35:04):
you know some people are saying, well the Brampton Sea
let's sit an eighth and the Eastern conferta. Well, yeah, okay,
that's fine. Well guess what they got three games in
hand and like unlike every team, and there's and they
got thirteen points and what's separating the conference right now
is one point, I mean, one point out of fifth,
you know, two points out of fourth, I mean, and
they got three games in hand in North Bay and

(35:26):
they're two points behind them right now in the stand.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
So just to say, oh yeah, yeah, right, and with
them kind of now with the three and three this weekend,
they'll close the gap a little bit on the games played,
so we'll see a little more a better representation of that.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
So we talked a little bit about the North Bay games.
Let's let's talk a little bit about the Sarnia game.
Because we've touched we've touched on the on the battalion
right now, North Bay Battalion sitting in fourth place. That's
seven and six, you just said it. They played fourteen games,
and then you have the Sarnia Sting who've gotten to
a pretty decent start through fifteen games. They're six five,
one in three, three shootout losses for the Sarnia Sting,

(36:07):
which is an interesting stat But what, I guess, what
are you kind of looking for in that game? And
of course it's it's a team that they don't see
very often, so maybe a little bit of a different
approach to it.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Yeah, Well, definitely, I mean you only see these guys
twice a year, right, first time they're going to be
coming here. Then the steel Heads are actually they're gonna
be done with them by the end of November. Then
then ste got to go there the November. But anyways,
what do you I mean, Sarnay, they're a good young team.
They're a young team, very good. They they work hard.
This is a team that competes all the time. They

(36:38):
got a good head coach and Alan Latang who's been
around the bush. He's coached at different levels and whatnot.
And yeah, no, they got a good young team, good goaltending.
Szisha as well. He's a guy that was a pain
in the butt for the Steelheads. I remember last time
he came last year when the steel Head's completely outshot

(37:00):
them and I'll played them pretty much won them the game.
So but a good young team works really, really hard.
The Steelers are gonna have to compete again, They're gonna
have to play sixty minutes against the Sarney team because
this team does not quit the Sarney team. So it
would be interesting to see that game against that Western
Conference team.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Yeah again, and it's also it's always good to see
games against the Western Conference, against teams that you don't
see that opten but maybe doesn't have the same sort
of feel of a rivalry that will get with the
with the North Bay games. Yeah, but definitely still, like
you said, an interesting matchup against the team that's that's
young and against the team that's really skilled.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
They got it. Yeah, I mean they got their first
round pick over there, al Alessandro Diorio. He's a good one,
and that's one guy you got to watch. I'm looking
forward to watching him east and Wayne right another one, uh,
Lucash Fisher on the back, Lukash Fisher, Carter Kostage former
North Bay battalion who had got in the Ville Mannis deal. Right,

(37:55):
So just to name a few, right, So they they
got a good they got a good squad. They got
Mitch Young defense. I really like him. He's one of
my favorites on defense. So it'll be a good one.
It'll be it'll be interesting. Steel Head's gotta they got
to come off lying right away and they got to
keep the goal.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Yeah, for sure. And and again there'll be different kind
of moving pieces to the lineup. But like we we
mentioned earlier on in the show, if you weren't with us.
Angus mac Cono will be out around four weeks of
the lower body injury. Mason Zebeski didn't play uh in
the in the last game against the GWELB Storm. Don't
know exactly about what the status is right Lescovar Dregusika
is still a guy with the lower body injury. That's

(38:30):
that's going to be out. So you've seen cart Wright
in there quite a bit, and maybe we can talk
a little bit about the young guys, because we do
a lot of talking, of course about the older players
because this team is older and it's not necessarily a
development year. But when they've gotten in, I mean, they've
really proved that the value. I mean, Cartwright has probably
gotten into more games than he thought he would at
the beginning of the year, and he's looked pretty strong.
And then you can throw throw Troy Patton in there,

(38:52):
who hasn't got a ton of time, but when he's
got in, their same kind of thing, and Vasu look
as well.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Yeah, they played, you know what, they played really well
on just to say on Sunday, all of them. Troy
Patton was an absolute human human pinball the way he
was he was hitting everything in sight, which was nice
to see as his compete level was really really high.
He played really well. Owen cart right, he's been a
steady eddie back there, hasn't he. I mean every time

(39:18):
he's gotten in there, he hasn't really made any you know,
knock on wood. He really hasn't made any big time
mistakes or anything like that. He's made the simple plays
and he's done well so well with his game. Just
he's just playing really well right now. And and you know,
Pasue like he's his hands. He's getting there, you know,

(39:39):
learning the game and whatnot. It seems like, you know,
especially for a young player coming over from check yet,
which he did, they got to learn the game and
the ice is small or whatnot, and he's getting there.
He's getting there slowly but surely, it seems like to me.
But he's all the three young guys are really playing
well right now. So they're just going to need to

(40:00):
keep that up.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Yeah, definitely gonna need to keep it up. And Vasula
I think is kind of gaining the trust a little
bit of the coaching staff a little more, like you said,
adjusting to the to the game, smaller ice, a little
more physical not as much space out there, and he
seems to be adjusting pretty well. So he's he's a
guy that's been on the fourth line, and I think
there's even a chance that we could see him moving
up in the lineup with the with the offensive skill
that he has, again with with some with some key

(40:24):
names missing in the lineup, So we will We'll have
to see what happens there. And then finishing off that
three and three, you have the second game against the
North Bay Battalion. That one in North Bay kind of
an interesting one that they would send North Bay here
and then one day later the steel Leads go to
North Bay. Yeah, I've never seen that before.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Schedule maker terrible. I mean, come on, we're going to
see the Barry Colts four times already in like like
two months or whatever that's coming up, you know what
I mean. So yeah, but these are the games that
the steel Leads have to have. And yep, uh, North Bay.
This is a team that's that's lost some players, right,

(41:03):
They've lost They've lost Ville Mannis, They've lost uh, you know,
Donde Vincentis. You know, they got a young goaltending duo
now with Mikey mckiver and then the young kid La
Rock back there. Uh, this is a team, you know,
but still they got they still have some pieces there.

(41:23):
They they got they got a good young team. They
just picked up sham Moses of course from the Barry Colts.
I thought that was a great deal for for Barry.
And he's fitted like a glove. Yeah, he's fitting like
a glove. Over there. They still have Jacob Terry and
he's played really well for them. The le Blanc twins
they still have them as well. So yeah, and it's
always a tough game up there at that North Bay,

(41:45):
at the at the gardens there, so especially with those
with those fans. So just to say the fans, they're
very the atmosphere, they're very, very passionate.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yea good fans. And that chopper that you always hear
when you're there all the score.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Oh yeah, actually it is. And you know what the
micro that the speakers right in your face. Oh, I'm
telling you. And when they score, oh my gosh. I
mean it's cool. I mean good for them, but visit, guy,
I think they do it on purpose. They know you

(42:22):
do it on purpose.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
For sure, that's what it's OK.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
But it's going to be a tough one up there.
It always is, it always is. It's not an easy
place to play up there. So but and again they
have they don't have ty Nelson or anything like that. Yeah,
their team, I don't know. I mean, Brandon, what do
you think. Are they a team rebuilding right now or
their team that's going to content?

Speaker 1 (42:44):
I mean yeah, I mean I think they're kind of
in the middle of what they're doing. I like the
move for Shamar Moses that you talked about. I mean,
they had the extra o A that they needed to
move on from and Wakeley hadn't played a game yet
for them, So I think the return they got for
a guy who's obviously in his last year in the
in the OLAH, I think was a was a great
return for them. I could again see them kind of

(43:04):
sitting around the middle of the conference, maybe near the
bottom near the end of the year. I think they
make the playoffs, like I do. Think they're good enough
to do that, even if they do move some pieces away.
But again, it's a it's a skilled team still at
this point with all the names that you mentioned. So
it will be a great matchup against them twice this weekend,
once on Friday, and then once on Sunday in North Bay,

(43:25):
you can hear all three games right here on Saga
nine sixty am. And that game is going to be
coming up right after trout talk as well.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Yeah, that's right, you're again, that's right after the break, so.

Speaker 1 (43:40):
We have the Yes battalion against This dealing is right
after right after trout talk at two o'clock. So Mike, kay,
you got like two minutes to get down there, so
better I got that plane ready, You got the chopper.
You're taking the chopper, all right? So that one's coming

(44:04):
up next. Yeah, that one's come up next. Gonna be
a great gonna be a great matchup. We could do
tips before we do lifetips. So I was I was
gonna bring up this, this story of the things that I
think I used to do with my friends at Halloween.
This is when you know, we were a little bit
Older're not like what we were seven or eight, I
don't think, but we got like maybe like nine, ten
eleven years old. We used to all go out and

(44:24):
get the candy and then come into my basement and
dump it all out, and then it would be like
a sports trading market where we would like package deals
of like chips. If some guys wanted chips, and they'd
trade you some chocolates and then yeah, like I'll get
you three lace chips for two arrow bars and you
would move them around. And then usually we had like
a waiver pile and you just throw the rockets in

(44:46):
there and you'd throw yeah, waivers and free agency and
you just you throw the rockets and you throw the
fruit roll ups in there, and you throw the microwavable
popcorn and you'd see if anybody wants to claim it.
So yeah, that's the.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
Way we did that too, which is kind of funny.
You know, hey, we'll give you two chalkers for that.
You know, I'll give you a twist and snickers for
running it for a ruffles bag, you know, no, no deal,
all right, I'll give you three. Okay, we did that.
We did that too, So that's kind of funny that
the waiver thing. I like that now, all right, that
goes in waivers.

Speaker 1 (45:22):
Nobody wanted them in the trades. Nobody wanted them in
the trades. Fun times, great, yeah, great time. So do
you have any life tips?

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Finish off lived like to its fullest. That's all I'm
gonna say. Happy Halloween everybody. And you know the stories
that me and Brendan are telling you right now, I
mean those are stories for life, and uh lived like
those fullest and be happy everybody.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Be happy, live life too. It's fullest. I love it.
Good way to finish off this episode, mikey K. We
will see you in a couple of minutes in North Bay.
