Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sh Arcturialparit, Ontario. And this is a live episode of

(01:01):
truck Talk. My name is Mike carefulis.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Your voice on the roof four of the Brampton Steele
as otherwise known as Mike Kay and went to me?
Of course?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Is Brendan Lang, the boy set home for the Brampton Steelers.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Are we doing?

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Brendan doing pretty well? Mikey, glad to be here. How
are you doing. How's the summer going.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Summer is going great, Summer's going great.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Blue Jays are doing well.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Hey, four games of four games above the Yankees. That's right,
they won last night, big wins. So I remember last
time last year, this time we were talking about how
bad the Blue Jays were and I was saying trade everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
So no, not this year.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
But hey, we're here at the steel a beautiful days
for golf. I mean, what is it, twenty four degrees,
twenty three degrees something like that. So I'm glad to
be with glad to be with.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
You, and uh.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, glad to be with you.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yeah, you know, it's a great day, the tenth annual
Steelheads Golf Tournament again Royal on tear here and yeah,
it's a it's a perfect day to be out here
playing golf. Obviously, you know with the with the season
on the horizon, it's coming up quick. So it's good
to see all the all the players, coaching staff out
here and everybody getting geared up for the year.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, Steelheads, Steelheads last year coming off a great year,
finishing well fifth in the Eastern Conference. And I'll tell
you right now, if it was it for injuries last
year and whatnot, I think the Steelheads probably would have
finished higher in the standings if you ask me. I
mean with all the injuries. You know, Angus MacDonell went
down early, uh, some suspensions whatnot. But the guys that

(02:37):
came up, they did a good job. They're probably we'll
we'll get into that later, but let's let you know
what's gonna happen on the show here today. We got
some alumni here and we'll talk to him in about
five minutes. He's sitting here right now. I'm not gonna
say who it is. We should have head coaching, general
manager James Richmond and we'll have another guest as well.
So yeah, looking forward to and this should be our

(03:02):
first broadcast. This is the third season of trout Talk
here on Saga ninety sixty AM and Boil Boil Boy.
It's this year. This year is going to be a
little bit different, I would say, Brendan, with all the
USHL guys coming over whatnot, a lot of guys go
into the NC Double A. But still, I mean it's

(03:25):
still good, great players that are coming over here in
the OHL, especially on the Steelheads as well. When we
talk about a couple of those players, get into a
couple one guy, I want to talk about a Zach
Nyman defenseman.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Yeah, I mean, like you said, it's gonna be a
little bit different this year with with all the players
kind of going in and out, and it's it's probably
gonna be you know, you're gonna see some more younger
guys I think than maybe you would before. And especially
because of the players that possibly have already committed to
play at NC Double A at younger ages are now
even to play in the OHL, of course, so you're
start to see that. But yeah, Zach Nyman, I mean
obviously he's a he's a big pick up. We were

(03:59):
talking early before we came on here that the Decore
looks pretty strong and obviously he's going to be a
huge part of that coming in and kind of shuring
up that back end. And obviously you have returning guys
like von Richter and Fibiger and Dracusica who has hurt
a lot last year. You talk about the injuries, that's
another guy who had a tough year with the injury book.
So to be able to get him back full time,
I really think the Decore is a strike for sure.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I think they I feel as well, like the the
goltending as well, branding the Lesbie coming back and boy
when he was traded from the gwelf Storm over to
the Brampton Steelheads, he just shined. He just stepped up
to another level. So most likely he's going to be
the starter this year. And they drafted a really nice
schoolie as well, sixteen year old from the United States,

(04:42):
and he's a big boy six to two. Yeah, you know,
thank you for the applause, Thanks for the applause. You know,
excuse me, I didn't even introduce our our producer today,
a money man who's taking care of the control. So
he just did a little clap there.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
But anyways, yeah, yeah, the goldtending situation is in a
good spot. You talk about Gillespie who came over, and
maybe the numbers weren't great when he got sent over,
but I mean it was. He obviously played great in
the time that he was here with the Steelers, and
obviously he's going to carry that over. And like you said,
with the new draft pick, have a young goalie that
can kind of be strong along with him, you know,

(05:17):
with with Gillespie, a guy who's an over ager. He
knows the league, he knows all of that. So yeah,
I think they're you know, they're in a good spot.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I think they're in a really really good spot. I
think they're gonna surprise a lot of people this year,
that's for sure. And if you're listening, get your season
tickets out there. Nine oh five five, O two seven, seven,
eight eight and uh what not? All right, let's welcome
in our first guest, and our first guest is sitting
right across from me, and this guy was the heart
and soul. He was the captain of the Steelheads a

(05:44):
couple of years ago. Chaz Sharp, who is now playing pro.
He was just in front of me the Leiefs camp.
Welcome to the show, my man, Chaz Sharp.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
Thanks for having me. Guys, it's been a while. How
are you doing great? Just been training and joining the
super hot weather that we've been having, super hot weather.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, are you enjoying it?

Speaker 7 (06:03):
Or is it too hot?

Speaker 5 (06:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Like when I get home, when I'm on the dock,
it's nice, but when I'm living in the city during
the week, it's it's a little too hot for my leg.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I'll tell you right now. I've been following you with
the Cincinnati Cyclones. You scored an amazing goal, and I
mean I put it out on social media. I said,
look at this guy, look at this guy? Whatnot right?
But you've really been working hard and talk about Leaf's
camp as well. That's what's going on there. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
It was my second year there now, so you know,
I was a little more comfortable. I knew a lot
of a lot of the staff and a lot of
familiar faces. So I just went in there with a
lot more confidence and I had a lot to prove.
I think I I think I had a really strong year.
Just it was more of a development year than a
than anything. But I was just trying to carry that

(06:47):
over and keep you know, turning heads.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
I mean you talk about like your off season training
in the summer, like, how has that changed now that
you've been playing pro? Is there any difference from when
you were black playing junior? Is it pretty much this
kind of the same program that you're.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
Working off of.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
It's it's similar. But I'm actually training with the Leafs
all summer. So you know the facilities they have, the
amazing staff they have. You know, we get breakfast, lunch
and they have about two staffed every player in there.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
So it's whatever you need, you got it.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
And still a lot more, you know, different things to
use and different opportunities now.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
So you know, you were captain you all here a
couple of years ago. You pretty much led that defense
score you know for a young team and whatnot. Uh,
talk about that experience, you know, your experience playing of
course in Mississauga, Brampton, whatnot. But talk about that experience
and uh, tell me tell me what it meant, what

(07:45):
it means to be a captain of the Steelheads.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Yeah, I mean I feel like to play for the
Steelheads in general, super special I think, you know, like
the bond that we have and the bond that I
made with some of my you know, they'll be my
lifelong friends. I think, you know, I was super honored.
Couldn't have been a better fit for me personally to
be a Steelhead. And you know, being a captain of
that young team, I you knew it was gonna have

(08:11):
it's up and up and downs, but we had such
a good group and I was just honestly trying to
get them ready for for their next year and and whatnot.
And you know, they have super special and it's super
bright future for.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Them, and especially with the guys that you played kind
of on the on the defensive side with, Like you
talk about Finn Harding who's been drafted now by Pittsburgh
and Harker lot of Richter who's gone to a different
NHL camp shack and figure another guy, Like how cool
is that to see you know, guys that kind of
you were mentoring now kind of have that success too.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
Yeah, No, it's unreal. I mean, such good kids too.
I think those guys, you know, I just trying to
try to lead the way for them and show them
what it's like to uh you know, be a vetting.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Junior and.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Just trying to do whatever I can to help them
for help prepare them for the next that and it's
always rewarding seeing those guys pan out.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
So we were talking about beforehand. You probably heard, you know,
some of the guys that are jumping ship, Dan c
double A and whatnot. I feel that the best, the
best league in the world is the OHL for development
and whatnot. How much did James Richmond and staff help
you develop into the guy that you are today and
the player and talk about the league?

Speaker 6 (09:24):
Yeah, I mean I owe a lot of credit to JR.
And you know, all the assistant coaches I've had over
the years, if it's Brettan Taylor, Jeff Carzacos, you know,
Thorny Maddie, all those guys have.

Speaker 7 (09:35):
Been great for me.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
But you know JR. Has really given me an opportunity
to develop as a as a player and a human.
And I think that's a big thing that you know,
it's the OHL. You don't get much better, don't give
much better better. You know looks and you know, training
and getting better, and you know, you get so much
opportunity in that league. And I still believe it's the

(09:58):
best way to develop.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
I mean you talk with the development and the training
that you said, kind of not getting anything better than that.
Think back to like when you first came into the league, right, like,
how much does that training kind of ratchet up from
when you're playing like minor hockey to once you get
into the OHL, Like, is.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
It like a big surprise? Yeah, you know, it's a
it's a big step.

Speaker 6 (10:15):
You're going against older, stronger, just different group of guys
than you or than minor hockey. You know, you're you're
the best at minor hockey. And then you start it
from the bottom again.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
And we were just introducing our guests. Here, our next guest,
and he is, as I said, six', one looks like
he's about two hundred and fifteen pounds now and it's
full of. Muscle my. Goodness me AND i had a
great year last year with the Steel ergsie the Defenceman
Parker Vaughn, richter best name in. Hockey how you, Doing?
Parker doing?

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Good guys doing? Good thanks for coming. On, UH i
guess we can kind of start things. On you said
to me off the, Air hopefully you can help the.
Team you think that's gonna be you think you're gonna
be able.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
To contribute today might be a questionable, one be, honest
seven not only a couple of times so far this,
summer holdly a.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Couple you look at. You you look like you've been
on the golf course above ten, times ten to fifteen
times looking at.

Speaker 7 (11:08):
You oh IT'S i HOPE i got a good group this.
YEAR i kind of need.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
It but, uh how's the golf game? Feeling of, course
we're Here Royal. Ontario you said to me off the,
air hopefully you can help the. Team you think that's gonna.
Be you think you're gonna be able to contribute today.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Might be a questionable, one to be, honest even not
only a couple of times so far this, summer holdly a.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Couple you look at. You you look like you've been
on the golf course above ten, times ten fifteen. Times
looking at.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
You oh IT'S i HOPE i got a good group this.
YEAR i kind of need. It, yeah, yeah it's a big.
Time get used to.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
It it's nice to enjoy and uh, yeah last year
was a good.

Speaker 7 (11:40):
Year you, know could have been better in the.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
End you need to wake up all things, Considered but,
yeah go, ahead, uh talk about talk about divine in THE,
OHL i think talk about.

Speaker 7 (11:50):
That, YEAH i mean the development's been.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
Key you, know all the coaches that have helped me
so far have like done a great job and developing
as a, player and you, know it's been great so
far with like J, R Maddie.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
Thorney you, know they've helped me so. Much what does
what does that look?

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Like you KNOW Jr was just over here kind of
for a, second like what is that relationship like with
him and sort of how has that sort of grown
over your time?

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Here, YEAH i Mean i've KNOWN jr for a, while you,
know years before BECAUSE i used to bill it with
the team and then you, KNOW i don't really know
him too much, then but then coming to the team
as a sixteen year, old he's Kind he was kind
of scary at, first to be, honest you, know kind of,
intimidating but you, know As i've got to know him
over the, years he's become more of like a friendly.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Figure, yeah he intimidates me still still to this. Day
let's just say, that SO i know when we walk
into the coaches meet or coaches meetings before the game and. Whatnot,
yeah he's but he's he's the best guy you ever.
Know i'll tell you that right. Now and he's like
he's like a pop a figure out there right when you,
say But, PARKER i mean talk about last year of
the playoffs a little bit. Disappointing of, course maybe he could,

(12:59):
have BUT i thought the injuries maybe during the. Season
if those didn't, happen THEN i think this team could
have been higher in the. Standings but but to play
THE Austwa generals in the first, round that's a. Tough
it was. Tough but talk about the team this, Year
what do you expect this?

Speaker 5 (13:20):
Year, yeah so going you, know we're losing quite a
few guys to you, know but you, know SO i
think the team this year could really surprise a lot of.
People AND i feel like people are kind of leaving
us out after last. Year BUT i think we could
surprise a lot of.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
People in, turn some heads and some of the younger
guys are newer guys coming in on the, team a
guy Like Peter, green who's gonna be. Backer Zach nyman,
like how much you know about these guys and have
you got some chance to work out with?

Speaker 7 (13:46):
Them?

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Yes So i've been skating with them a bit over
the summer and all really great. Guys SO i think
we're gonna have a really you, know great group to
to push, with and they've been looking really good over the,
summer so it's gonna be exciting to see what they,
can you, know bring to.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
This brandon Could brendan brigs up a good, point you,
know talk about the back, End luke Drag gusika back,
There you're back, There Zach, Nyman Peter green of, Course David,
green the. Brothers who AM i missing here From Yaka
FIBER i, mean, Uh, RED i THINK i said reg.
Already stop interrupting, Anyway, no but you know, what really

(14:24):
real solid back end of course and ending goal With Brandon. Gillaspie,
uh probably one of the strong points of the team
this year when you.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
Say, yeah, yeah, No, SO i think our defensive end
looks really good And i'm excited to see what we're
gonna bring to the, table even With brandon and he's
he's really good last year when he.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
Played so it's gonna be nice to.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
See you said you've been skating with with some of the,
guys some of the new. Guys i'm sure you've been
skating with some of your teammates, already of, Course, like
what does the what does the summer look like for?

Speaker 7 (14:53):
You is it different than past? Years are you kind
of doing the same thing this?

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Year, honestly same old you, know just, workouts, skates some off,
time enjoy this summer at the same, time, right gotta enjoy.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
It, well you have the, break so that's.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
It how many how much can?

Speaker 7 (15:07):
You how much can you?

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Batch?

Speaker 5 (15:08):
Press never really did one wrap, things BUT i was
doing like two forty for sets of five the other.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Day my, God, okay we're gonna end it in that,
note all, Right, Parker, sorry thanks for joining, me joining
us excuse me on Troue talk here live On saga

Speaker 8 (15:51):
Live At saga nine sixty am DOT.

Speaker 7 (15:54):
C a.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Gay episode of Trout talk right here at SECOND i sixty.
Am my name Is Mike Cara felina's voice on The
road for The, Steelheads voice at home for The. Steelheads
Brendon lang joining me of, course and we have our
next guest here and It's Mason Zebeski ford for The
steelheads and this is his overage, season who was just

(16:32):
In Pittsburgh penguins. Camp so welcome to the.

Speaker 7 (16:35):
Show, yeah thanks for having.

Speaker 9 (16:36):
Me nice to see you guys.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Again nice to see you. Too so how's the off season.
Going you're In pittsburgh, camp talk about.

Speaker 9 (16:41):
That, yeah it's been. Great pittsburgh was really. Fun it
was nice obviously to Have finn there with, me so
it was easy to kind of kind of navigate through the.
Camp and it was my second development camp, now SO
i had a lot lesseners in the first. One and,
yeah it was a great opportunity for me obviously being
around that pro, environment seeing how they kind of live
their lives and in the same trainers and facilities that
they would. Use so, yeah it was a great experience

(17:03):
for me And.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
Mike he just, said you, know of, course going into
your overage season this, YEAR i kind of asked a
similar thing To, parker but it's, like you, know we
remember you when you were sixteen coming into the, League
like how fast has it really? Gone like can you
believe that in your overage season and like just talk
about the development that you've had over these past you,
know five.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
Years, yeah it's.

Speaker 9 (17:20):
INSANE i mean it feels LIKE i just signed yesterday
and looking up to like the other, guys the old.
Ages my year With callahan And hardy feels like those
guys were like really old compared to, me and Now
i'm in the same shoes that they. Are so it's a,
crazy crazy turnaround and crazy how fast it's. Gone but
just trying to enjoy every.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Moment now now you're one of the older guys in the,
team of course you're an overage or so you're gonna
be taking a lot of guys obviously under your wing
and showing them the ropes of the oly cello. Whatnot
talk about you have you brought some of the young
guys with you right, now like you, know teaching them
skating with them. Whatnot, YEAH i.

Speaker 9 (17:52):
Mean we have a lot of team skates in the
summer obviously with J. R And maddie And, Tony so
kind of just got like introducing myself to, that making
them feel comfortable and welcome to the. Team, obviously gonna
be a lot younger than last. Year so for, me
it's all about bringing my experience and my kind of
old older mentality and kind of helping the younger guys
kind of find their way in the league and get
their footing and their feet.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Wet and you had Mentioned hardy And.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Callahan we just Had chaz on the, show, like how
did those guys help, you you, know getting into the
league and how much can you take from them for
leadership now that you're one of the guys that is
going to be looked upon in that kind of.

Speaker 9 (18:23):
Rule, YEAH i mean those guys are still some of
my best, friends and so that's kind of the big,
part is just kind of building that friendship in that
bomb with them and just making making sure that the
young guys feel welcome all the time and that they
have someone to talk to and some older guys that
they can always lean on and look for that kind
of maturity aspect in the.

Speaker 7 (18:38):
League, so same thing that they.

Speaker 9 (18:39):
Did with, Me i'm going to try to implement on
the younger guys this.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Year so he scored fourteen, goals eighteen assists last year
thirty two points and you're always a. Plus you're a
plus eleven jar always, preaches you, know the two way
game and, Whatnot so talk about, that talk about the
development with the two way. Game how much these guys
have helped.

Speaker 9 (18:57):
You, YEAH i mean it was a big part for
me trying to find my identity with those especially with.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
A guy Like.

Speaker 9 (19:02):
Hardi you can put the puck in the net from
wherever he, is so you kind of you have guys
that can fill those. Roles you kind of filter your
way through and find and find your own. Identity and
so that really helped me find my footing And i've
just stuck with that identity since and it's it's gotten
me to WHERE i am, today and it's helped me
get into THOSE nhl development, camps and, yeah my identity
is kind of What i'm gonna stick with for my
whole career.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Now and in the in the off, season, like is
it is it more off ice? Training are you on
the ice as much as you're doing off? Ice like
how does this sort of mix?

Speaker 9 (19:30):
Work, YEAH i, MEAN i mean today's day and, age
they're really they really focus on off ice in the,
summer just trying to get, bigger, stronger. Faster that's kind
of the main. Idea and then As as the summer,
progresses you kind of add more skates, in so roughly
like three to four skates a, week and THEN i
guess towards camp you can kind of ramp it up
to five, maybe but like minimum five five days in
the gym a week's basically as hard as you. Can,

(19:52):
yeah but the off ice OFF i stuff is the
main focus for, me just getting, bigger.

Speaker 7 (19:55):
Stronger did you Meet Sidney?

Speaker 3 (19:57):
CROSBY i did. Not you didn't Meet Sydney? Crosby, okay
who did you meet down?

Speaker 7 (20:02):
There?

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Again i'll talk about some of the older. Guys maybe you, KNOW.

Speaker 9 (20:05):
I didn't meet any of the older guys because it's still,
somber But La tang was there working, out SO i
was cool seeing him and how strong they are compared to. Us,
yeah not a lot of older guys are.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
There and you had, said you, know you get to
go With, Finn, LIKE i, mean how cool was that
for two teammates be able to go there and obviously
not just, that but just kind of have somebody there
that you can lean on and kind of it is
your second time going, through so you kind of have that,
experience but having another guy, there of, Course, yeah it.

Speaker 9 (20:29):
Was it made a lot easier for, me and just
especially a guy Like finn with how much of a
competitor he is and how much of a warrior he
is on and off the. Ice it made me want
to get better and compete more at camp and just
seeing his habits it obviously reflects on everybody, Else so
that's that stuff is great for me to kind of
experience with, him and, YEAH i love we love pushing each.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Other kind of what kind of skills did they teach
you in developmental?

Speaker 9 (20:51):
Camp, yeah so every day there's a new. Focus it
was a lot of forward. Split so for the forwards
we did a lot of like wallwork and pickups and
kind of scanning the make sure that we know our.
Options we did a lot of, shooting shooting and, passing
weight shifting stuff like, that a lot of power, skating
and then towards the ending camp had turned into a
lot of one on ones and battle drills and small

(21:12):
area games.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
And talking to you last year and you just made
a point of it as, well saying about playing to
your identity like this, summer is there kind of a
specific part of the game that you're working on that
you kind of wanted to improve for next. Year is
it just kind of a whole sort of overarching.

Speaker 9 (21:26):
THING i, mean mostly an overarching. THING a big thing
for me is obviously off, ice my. Strength it's a
big part of my. Game so the, stronger stronger and
FASTER i and the BETTER i can play on the.
Ice and then a big part for me to kind
of not necessarily a weakness but SOMETHING i wanted to
elevate my game would be my puck confidence and kind of.
Creativity so just getting those puck touches all, summer making
myself feel good about having the puck and playing with the.

(21:48):
PUCK i think that'll take my.

Speaker 8 (21:49):
Game to the next.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Level so how much can you bench?

Speaker 10 (21:51):
NOW i don't.

Speaker 9 (21:53):
KNOW i Don't ego left like that.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Same same answer as A, Parker.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
I'd say.

Speaker 7 (22:01):
To.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Sixty because you're because you're because you're an. Animal we'll
test that out our, camp all.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Right last, one we were just talking about it off the.
Air how's the golf? Game you, said you're feeling pretty.
Good you've Been you've been playing a lot this.

Speaker 9 (22:15):
Summer, YEAH i playing a lot this summer almost at
thirty five forty. Rounds oh, Wow, okay, yeah feeling pretty
good early in the morning, though SO i don't know
How i'll do.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
A little tight. Yeah, Yeah now you're a big, golfer, Right,
yeah so you golf with your dad a lot in
the summer or.

Speaker 9 (22:30):
Whatnot, yeah we go usually once or twice a, week
and then a lot during the week with my, uh
with my close.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
Friends all, right, perfect thank you very.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Much all, Right Mace sebski of Your Brampton Steel, arts
thanks so much for joining. Us mace Is, abski who's
going to have a Huge parker m.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
D and it's so funny AND i KNOW i mentioned
it twice because we talked it To parker And, mason
but just the fact that AND i know you're the
same way you remember these guys when they came in
sixteen year, olds and it doesn't feel like that long,
Ago like the time just goes by so, fast and
it's so cool to kind of see the entire, development
entire growth of these two guys careers and a lot

(23:11):
of guys on this team that we've seen since they
were since they were young guys in the in the.
Ohl so it's really cool to see that. Development and
then also of course now AS i think it Was,
mason who mentioned that that he's going to be maybe
a little bit of a younger team this. Year so
seeing these guys who now have the experience kind of
bring along the next wave of, PLAYERS i think it's
it's a really awesome sort of obvious cycle that you

(23:32):
have here in junior, hockey and and it's kind of
at the at the end for some guys and just
at the beginning of. Others so really looking forward to the.
Year AND i think that you're right in saying that
That mason's gonna have a huge part on the. TEAM i, mean,
obviously as an, overager he's a guy they're going to
look too quite. Often and you, know the offense can be,
there and it was there at times last, year so
it's going to be a huge. Part And i'm sure

(23:52):
he's a they're looking forward to the, year AND i
know we are.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Too you, know we haven't talked about the, draft of.
Course you, know three players drafted from The brampton Steam, heads,
Uh Porter, Marton Gabe, sharrot And In Lane porter martone
of course drafted by The Philadelphia. Flyers Gabe sharrot drafted
by The Vancouver, canucks And Aiden lane who was drafted
by The Calgary. FLAMES i haven't Seen Gabe sharrot yet,

(24:15):
though so so, yeah another guy is gonna BE i
think he's gonna you, know let's talk About Gabe shout
for a. SECOND i, MEAN i think this is gonna
be a big breakout year For. Gabe you, know he's
the type of, guy you, know he gets the dirty
areas and he knows how to score goals and he
was starting to be a kind of a leader this.
YEAR i think he's gonna step up to that role
and he's gonna be a great leader as.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Well, yeah he's he's definitely gonna step up to that.
Role and you, say you know he's gonna have a breakout.
YEAR i mean last year was already a huge breakout
year for.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Him even better. This, yeah, right and What i'm, saying that's.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
WHAT i, mean like you already had the breakout and
now there's going to be a breakout on top of.
That of, course getting drafted By, VANCOUVER i, think you,
know he's a guy that maybe when he first came
into the, league and he played a year In JUNIOR
b before he played in the in THE, ohl so you,
know it's maybe a little bit of a longer path
to get, here but obviously since he's gotten, here you
taught you Hear Mason zebeskie talk about playing to their,

(25:05):
identity and you just, Said Gabe sharrod has an identity
and he plays to it every time he's on the,
Ice AND i think that that's sort of something that
you're going to look.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
For and AS i was, saying you, know.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
He scores five goals the year before twenty one last, Year,
like that's already huge jump and you can add probably, ten,
fifteen twenty more onto that twenty one goal mark that
he already.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Has, yeah. DEFINITELY i, mean he's just a big body out.
There he's just going to get bigger and, stronger especially
at this age that he's at right. Now but you,
know there's going to be more leaders on this, TEAM i,
feel and on the back, end you, know guys Like
Greed gee as we talked about. Earlier you know another
older Guy parker Von richtor who we'd had on, earlier
who's going to be a huge part of this team as,

(25:42):
Well Yaka fibger another, one you, know an older guy
who's going to be a big leader on this. Team
this TEAM i think this, year in my, opinion is
going to surprise a lot of.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
People, yeah, YEAH i, MEAN i think you're. Right and
in the sense too that likes there's definitely a lot of.
UNKNOWNS i think as you talk about some of the
new guys coming. In we talked About Zach, nyman and
obviously he's gonna be a big piece to what happens this.
Year the, Brothers Peter, Green heater And David. Green we
haven't even we haven't even Mentioned keith nardag who's going
to be a big. Part that's what the team as.
Well AND i mean again it's it's maybe some new

(26:15):
faces that we're not used to, seeing BUT i mean
it's it's gonna look. Different BUT i still think that
there's just talent always reigns supreme right in, Sports AND
i think that that's what you're talking about, here in
the sense that like they have the talent out, there and,
sure maybe there's some new, guys some things are shifting,
around but the talent's, there and you always know the
culture is going to be good inside the. ROOM i

(26:36):
feel like that's such a big part that we do
a lot of talking about for, sure and in the
culture That James richmond has built and all these guys
when they talk to, it it's the same sort of,
thing you, know welcoming the young guys in making sure
they're always feeling, included like all of that kind of
stuff is huge for team morale and it just makes
the team as a whole.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Better you look at some of the teams you know
this summer that are making moves already In, june like
the Nag Rece, dogs like The Branford bulls. Whatnot it
doesn't mean anything trade the trade window opens up again In.
August that's when you're gonna make some really really good
moves before the, season Right AND i still feel, that you,

(27:12):
know the Steel lights do have a nice little draft
cupboard still and Maybe James, richmond in my, opinion is
gonna make some.

Speaker 4 (27:18):
Moves and the thing last year too with the, injuries
obviously it's it's a it's never a good thing to see.
Injuries but you see a guy Like, sharat Like, wookowski
those kind of players that had to be elevated in
the lineup just out of, necessity so they already have
that experience there so when they are asked to do
it and they're gonna be asked to do it this.
Year you know they already you know they can do
it because they've already done.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
It and another guy would you need to talk about
in front of course Is Lucas karimiras a guy that
was just the injury bug just hit him hard last.
Year we expected him to have a big year and
he started to get hot and then all of a
sudden he got. Hurt, Right so you know he's gonna
be on A michione year this. Year nineteen year old
out Of bramford didn't get dropped in THE nhl, Draft
but you know what he's gonna have in the back

(27:58):
of his, MIND i want to get this year or
for next year's, draft AND i THINK i feel he's
gonna have a big year this year if he stays
healthy and he's going to be a big piece up.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
There, YEAH i mean that's really the biggest, thing Right
it's just the is the health aspect of it with
the With Lucas, karmiers we know we know the skills
there and it really is like and you do feel
bad for, him especially with being in the draft, year
right that you have to deal with all Of z's.
Injuries same With Luca guziga that you have to deal
with all those kind of injuries in this uh in
that draft. Year so for, him, yeah he's definitely going

(28:30):
to be a big part of the. Team he's gonna
be asked same thing to do quite a. BIT i
mean you look at the numbers with, him obviously you
see the. Progression you see, that and it's not just
REALLY i feel like with With Lucas, karmiers it goes
a lot, behind just like the stats that you see
on the, paper right behind the, points behind the, assists
behind the. Goals like he's big in the faceoff, dot
he plays very responsively in the defensive, zone and that's

(28:53):
something that you could see grow and you could See
James richmond and the coaching staff rely upon him more
in all aspects of the. Game that again has just
kind of grown since he's gotten into the.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
League, YEAH i just felt so bad for. Him you'll
go back to that and, Whatnot but you, know we
talked about the moves up, front and you, know it's
it is going to be a little bit of a
younger team this, year but they're going to be. EXCITING
i still to this. Field they're going to be. Exciting
and one thing About James, richmond head coach AT, gm
he gets the guys to buy, in and that's going
to be huge this, year especially with the young. Guys

(29:24):
And i'm going to go back to when they made
the big, trades When Dell Bell blues got traded and
when Del masro got, TRADED o When beck got, traded
and we talked to each, other you, know off here and.
Whatnot we're, like oh, wow this is a, big younger.
Team but you know, what they really really impressed a
lot of people because they bought, In they bought into the,
system playing the two way hockey and. WHATNOT i feel

(29:46):
that that's going to be this kind of a team this.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Year, yeah, YEAH i. THINK i Think James richmond does
a great job, of like you, said getting guys to buy,
in especially young guys who just come in right and
he really kind of mulds them into the players that
he needs on the. Ice AND i feel like that's
kind of gonna be a similar. THING i think it's
it's a really good comparison that you, Made mikey with
with a lot of the young guys coming in at

(30:08):
that trade deadline and then they were great the rest
of the, year and remember to start the next season
they were first place in The Eastern conference for quite a. While,
SURE i mean to fizzle that a little, bit but
sometimes that happens with with young. Teams BUT i would
expect them to get off to a great start again
just because of all of the sort of systems and
everything that's going to be put in in training camp
and pre, season and those guys are going to be
ready to go with with with everything That James richmond

(30:31):
and the coaching staff wants them to.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Do just to let everybody, know we will be broadcasting
Every steelheads game all sixty. Eight James, richmond thanks for
joining us here. Today how are you, doing?

Speaker 10 (30:41):
Sir thanks for having Me. Kellas, yeah it looks like
a great, day great turnout to the biggest one we've,
HAD i. Guess so it's the front office staff is
doing a hell of a job all. Summer so it's been.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
Good, yeah that's.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Right what's the summer been like for you? GUYS i
mean obviously busy with everything going.

Speaker 10 (30:58):
On yeh's really, busy, RIGHT i mean it's the new
lends keep for our for our, league and so Unfortunately
we're gonna lose some of our some of our high
end guys, here but we'll uh we'll replace them and
and uh move forward and and trying to get afghan
it's really really. Strong, YEAH i think you, know you
look at the guy Like Karen mkowsky slides back over

(31:18):
to the middle.

Speaker 7 (31:18):
WHERE i think he's more.

Speaker 10 (31:19):
Comfortable but, YEAH i, mean guys are gonna have to step,
up and we'll have some guys come. In Stank ovid's coming,
in who as the captain of that full vacuum. Team
he's the works already done, there and and then we'll
see what happens with the with the other.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Guy.

Speaker 10 (31:32):
Right so SO i, mean you, know you look at
our season this, year and obviously you would go back and, say,
wow we were really banged. Up but that time when
we were missing all those guys ten eleven, guys we
gave up the few shots a few as great eight chances.
Against we scored at the same rate as we did
when the top guys were. There so if we get

(31:54):
the right buy in and we play a certain, WAY
i think we'll be.

Speaker 4 (31:57):
Fine and you were talking about THE dcorp strong this,
year and then you have a lot of guys returning
of course, there but also bringing In Zach niman is
a name, there and Then Peter green coming into like
And David green And David, green, right so, like what
can you say about the group and and and sort
of you, know coming back.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
To last week last, year and he's gonna be a
gonna be a. Behemoth BACKS i was great. Shape he
looks great this. Summer so we're going to be strong
on the back, end you. Know and if we get
a strong back in and we played, tight tight through
the neutral, ZONE i think we'll be hard to play,
against all, Right.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
Jerry just at the, draft of, course another three players
drafted to THE. Nhl you're before we Had lane there as.
Well that's, Right Port martin and Shot Aiden, Lane Jack Ivan.
Covid how CAN i forget excuse? Me all, right so
four players drafted THE, nhl.

Speaker 7 (32:49):
You know.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
A little, Different, NO i don't.

Speaker 10 (32:53):
Know you, KNOW i prefer to be in a hockey.
Rink vegas Was vegas the sphere and it was pretty.
Spectacular BUT i think having the hockey world come together
with everybody there's pretty. Special it makes our sport different
than everybody. Else And i'd like to see it go back,
there BUT i don't know if it will because it's
THE nhl. Teams they liked being in their home centers

(33:17):
and they like to be able to talk to each
other as opposed to the tables next to each other
down on the. Floor SO i don't know if we'll
ever go. Back but it was a, great great trip out,
there and LIKE i, said we had great success as
Steel hoods did and looking forward to another one this.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Year.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
YEAH i mean a name that you had mentioned In
Gabe sharad who's going to be a big piece for you.
Guys but him getting, drafted you, know of course it's
been a great developmental. Story last year he was you,
know he had a big breakout. Season what can you
just say about? Him and then the work that he's
put in to get.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
There it's.

Speaker 10 (33:47):
IT i, Mean gabe has put to work in you,
know it comes out in the, morning ice and works
on his. Game he goes in the, gym works on his,
Game he eats, Right he doesn't say much and you,
KNOW i was just talking To tippy And tippy And
hag are there and you think of those two guys
work that they put in in the, mornings with. Us
so our development program is different than most in THE,

(34:09):
ohl and that's what THE nhl teams keep telling.

Speaker 7 (34:11):
Us but it seems to be, working so we'll keep doing.

Speaker 10 (34:13):
It but guys Like SEANT i still think that Von
richter is the guy that's been said through the cracks
and and hopefully he gets gets picked up here.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Soon, yeah we were talking About Lucas karimiras. Too uh
you know a little bit bit of, tough tough luck
last year with injuries or. Whatnot you, know he started
to turn it on and all of a sudden he got,
hurt probably probably has a chip on his shoulder this.
Year maybe expect some big things from.

Speaker 7 (34:35):
Him, YEAH i mean.

Speaker 10 (34:37):
Same as a lot of, guys, RIGHT a lot of
guys get got banged up and so they like like.
DRAGS i, mean ye, know, man what that that's a sad.
Story but he's bounced back and he's he's had a
great summer here.

Speaker 7 (34:47):
And and and looking great.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
There so but, yeah all, right it looks like the
yeah you know, What Jared, Jered jared keeps looking over
at the. Carts he's, LIKE i gotta get going because
this guy is like super super. Golfer ladies And gentleman
