Gertrude Baniszewski and Sylvia Likens are two names that will forever be linked with unimaginable torture and depravity. In 1965, Sylvia, a 16-year-old girl, was placed in the care of Gertrude Baniszewski, a single mother of seven children. What ensued was a horrific ordeal of torture and exploitátion, that would shock the nation. Gertrude also encouraged her children and their friends to join in the horrific abûse, suffered by Sylvia. This mob mentality only served to worsen the situation.
