Speaker 1 (00:03):
Callaroga Shark Media. Welcome back to the TV basement, wester
Rosie Faithful. Today we've reached the end of our journey
through HBO's epic fantasy series Game of Thrones. Season eight,
the show's final season, had the monumental task of wrapping

(00:24):
up one of the most complex and sprawling narratives in
television history. With only six episodes to tie up countless
loose ends, the season was always bound to be divisive,
So let's don our plot armour one last time and
dive into the fiery debate surrounding Game of Thrones Final Hours.
Season eight of Game of Thrones is all about endings.
From the opening moments of the premiere Winterfell, the season

(00:47):
has a sense of finality, as characters who have been
separated for years finally reunite and the show's disparate storylines
converge for the ultimate battle. The first half of the
season focuses on the battle against the Night King and
his Army of the Dead, culminating in the epic and
divisive episode The Long Night. The second half shifts the

(01:08):
focus back to the political machinations of Westros as Deannaries
targarian Amelia Clark and Circe Lanister Lena Hetty face off
for control of the Iron Throne. The season ends with
a series of shocking twists and divisive character turns, as
Denaris's descent into madness leads to the destruction of King's
Landing and her ultimate downfall at the hands of John

(01:29):
snow Kit Harrington. The final episode, The Iron Throne attempts
to wrap up the remaining character arcs and set the
stage for a new era in wester Ros. Season eight
is packed with momentous events and shocking twists that had
fans reeling. The battle against the Night King in the
Long Night was one of the most anticipated events of

(01:51):
the season. The eighty two minute episode was a technical marvel,
featuring some of the most complex and expansive battle sequences
ever put to screen. However, the episode's dim lighting and
controversial plot choices like Aria Stark being the one to
deliver the final blow to the Night King divided fans.
The destruction of King's landing in the Bells was another

(02:13):
major talking point. The sight of Danaris reigning fire down
on the city, killing countless innocent civilians was a shocking
turn for a character many had rooted for since the beginning.
The episode's depiction of the brutality of war and the
fall of a once heroic figure was powerful, but some
fans felt it was a betrayal of Dinarus's character arc.

(02:33):
The final episode, The Iron Throne, had the unenviable task
of wrapping up the show's many remaining plot lines. While
some fans appreciated the bittersweet and open ended nature of
the ending, others felt it was rushed and unsatisfying, particularly
in regards to the fates of certain characters like Bran Stark,
Isaac Hempstead Right, and John Snow. Season eight gives the

(02:57):
show's ensemble cast one last chance to shine, and they
deliver some of their most powerful performances. Emilia Clark's portrayal
of Denaris's descent into madness is a highlight showcasing the
actress's range and emotional depth. Kit Harrington brings a weary
gravitas to John Snow as he grapples with his identity
and his duty, and Peter Dinklage delivers a heartbreaking performance

(03:20):
as Tyran Lanister, particularly in his final scenes with his
fallen queen. The season also marks the end of the
road for many of the show's beloved characters. From the
tragic deaths of Jorah mormont, Ian Glenn and theon Grayjoy
Alfie Allen to the bittersweet farewells of Jamie Lanister, Nikolai
Coster Waldau and Brienn of Ptarth Gwendolen Christi, the season

(03:42):
is filled with emotional goodbyes. Season eight of Game of
Thrones is by far the most divisive and controversial season
of the show. On Rotten Tomatoes, the season has a
fifty four percent critics score and a thirty percent audience score,
a far cry from the near universal acclaim of earlier seasons.

(04:02):
Critics and fans alike criticized the season's pacing, with many
feeling that the shortened six episode run resulted in rushed
character development and unsatisfying plot resolutions. The show's handling of
Danaris's arc in particular, was a major point of contention,
with many feeling that her sudden turn to villainy was
unearned and out of character. There were also complaints about

(04:24):
the season's technical aspects, particularly the dim lighting of the
long night and the apparent presence of a modern coffee
cup in one scene. However, the season did receive praise
for its acting, its visual spectacle, and its willingness to
take bold narrative risks. Many defended the show's choices as
being true to the themes of the series, even if

(04:44):
the execution was sometimes flawed. Despite the divisive reception to
its final season, Game of Thrones remains a landmark achievement
in television history. The show's impact on the cultural landscape
cannot be overstated, from its popular rization of epic fantasy
on television to its dominance of the pop culture conversation.

(05:05):
Season eight, for all its flaws and controversies, is a
testament to the show's ambition and its willingness to take risks.
It may not have struck the landing for all fans,
but it still delivered moments of jaw dropping spectacle, heartbreaking emotion,
and thought provoking themes. As we look back on the
entirety of Game of Thrones, it's clear that the show's

(05:27):
legacy will be one of innovation, impact and endless discussion.
It set a new standard for what television could achieve
in terms of scale, complexity, and cultural resonance, and while
its ending may remain a point of contention, there's no
denying the journey was one hell of a ride. So
what did you think of Game of Thrones Season eight?

(05:47):
Did it live up to your expectations or did it
leave you disappointed? What were your favorite moments and performances,
and how do you think the show's legacy will endure
in the years to come. This is journey Joe Mitchell,
signing off from the TV basa for the last time
on our Game of Thrones journey. Thank you for joining
me on this epic exploration of one of television's greatest achievements.

(06:08):
Until next time, keep seeking out groundbreaking storytelling wherever you
can find it, and remember, when you play the Game
of Thrones, you win or you die, but great television
endures forever.
