(00:00):
Hi, welcome, un suppressed.I am wes. We're going to go
ahead and continue on an episode. The topic or epis the topic we did
last week, and if you can'ttell it, I'm tired. We're doing
this on Super Bowl Sunday. Andit was a long game. When din'd

(00:20):
your agree, Bill, that wasa long ass game. Yeah, Misery
and Taylor Swift. Yeah, Iwas just I didn't care who won,
but it was just dude. Whenthat dude missed the extra point, I
just wanted to like cry because Iknew that ship was going to just turn
into its own thing, and itdid it offset so that the game constantly.

(00:43):
Yeah, it actually it did thatthat one hand, just kindly and
the kicking it low. But youknow what what's really important is products,
and since we're not talking about footballproducts, we're talking about survival products.
Yes, so you're going to dosome cool ass ship here. Yeah.
Yeah. So for those of youguys who had watched and listened to our
episode twenty one from last week,we were talking about the different levels of

(01:07):
should hit the fan scenarios and insteadof making that into a two hour episode,
we just had to gohea and splitthat apart. And we're immediately jumping
into an episode today where Every's gonnasend me some links to some products that
he thinks we should check out,and we're gonna kind of put together our
own little bug out bag and sentfun I should I have drink that freshcarret

(01:29):
before, and now I got theburps a life battery. I see the
commentary, So let's go ahead andshare my screen. So some items worth
mentioning from Amazon that you can get, And the first one that we're going
to talk about is inverters for yourcars, so basically turning your twelve volt
DC power supply into one hundred andten volt alternating current. Okay, I

(01:55):
have the the MP right now,two thousand lotts. Yeah, so you
have a couple of different options. You have kind of like the busted low
end ones, which isn't a cleanpower source, and that's usually around fifty
dollars. This one is a cleanpower source, so you don't have to
worry about frying your electronics or anythinglike that. So if you plug a
laptop or any comms equipment or anythinglike that into it, you don't have

(02:16):
to worry about toasting it, likedamaging the memory. The circuitry. So
that's what we have up here.We have a two hundred dollars one that's
two thousand watts. I think it'spowerful enough for most refrigerators, which is
kind of like what we've talked aboutin the past, which is you would

(02:37):
use something like this to basically keepyour refrigerator cool in the event that you
lost power during the summertime or somethinglike that. And that's pretty useful.
That is useful. Yeah, well, that's something you could actually utilize anytime.
And that's something has lots of multifunctionbecause how many times is your kid
in the car and they want topull with their tablet and you're like,

(02:58):
it's low, all right, it'snot low anymore. You know, you
have three few differentledge there. Okay, this keeps bounce some things around.
Zoom. Yeah, there's there's oneone ten plug in, two USB plugins,
and three one ten plugins. Isthe options you have there. I

(03:19):
keep a version of this in theback of my truck and that's in the
event that I need to, youknow, recharge. Like for example,
one of the things that we'll talkabout is a cordless drill or I'm sorry,
cordless chainsaw and Uh, it's kindof hard to find twelve cordless device
chargers. They do make them, but they're hard to come by. So

(03:40):
with this guy, all you dois you turn it on, You take
your you know, normal uh,you know battery pack charger, plug it
in, let it run for thirtyminutes, and now you've got a charge
battery up. So it's a littlebit easier to use when dealing with something
like rechargeable batteries. Most Overlanders don'tcarry gas chain saws. They carry electric
chain saws for cutting wood and stufflike that for campfires and whatnot. It's

(04:05):
just more maintenance to run a gasone. With the new forty volt chainsaws
and some of the brushless eighteen voltchainsaws, that's they're actually pretty good.
There's some talk about how you needto change the chains out and stuff because
of the chains are trash, butoverall, having a a you know,

(04:25):
forty volder an eighteen volt chainsaw willget the job done in most instances.
Yeah, okay, and you needsomething like this to charge it. With
that being said, having more poweron board using a LiPo battery of some
sorts, this is a So thenext item we have up here is a
rather large one hundred ampire hour twelvevolt battery. It's a life lithium ion

(04:49):
phosphate, that's what it is,and it's what's the price on that one
can't recall? Three dollars, Yeah, so there's a different version, different
sizes. There's a ten and ahalf your hour on that is probably a
lot less. It's seventy nine dollars. Good god, yea the million amps,
right, that's kind of cranking damsfor sure. App well, so

(05:14):
it doesn't though, that's the thing, So it doesn't know, you can't
really run your You can't start yourvehicle on this, right, and you
wouldn't want to because live back lifelithium batteries don't do well in the cold,
and so if you're in an environmentwhere it's cold, you're either going
to damage the battery, it's notgoing to start, and they don't.
It doesn't have cranking, but whatdoes have is a lot of juice in
it that you can use to chargeor to run your inverter or different things

(05:39):
like that. And there's there's amathematic formula that you can do to determine
how much juice you need in orderto run the different devices. You have.
I didn't want to get into thattoday, but something like this,
having a larger backup battery inside yourvehicle will extend your run time of your
devices and it will also help savefuel in the long run. So that

(06:00):
is twenty two pounds is for thatlithium battery. That's a big ass battery.
Yeah, for a thousand or forone hundred million amps, that's a
lot. All right, go ahead. Uh, this is a backpack.
Bill is telling me about expedition GreatFalcon. Yeah, so this one is
pretty cool. You get the getthe separation pack there, and Bill is

(06:23):
bragging about it with Ragan's not thecorrect answer. The answer is this was
a very functional pack. Lily adsstill to for good reason. Can you
share that one? I want tobe able to look it online? Oh
okay, you're not able to seeon the on the shure, I can?
I can? I just want toyou want to? You want to
touch it? Okay? Yeah? And then I would say, if you
want to, like give us somefeedback on what you think about this compared

(06:44):
to what's available from Gray Ghost. It's a big assault pack, that's about
what it is. It's not ait's not like a it's not a high
like a three day pack. Yeah. I mean I always love modularity.
I think that's like something that everythingshould be as modular as possible. And
if this has a yeah, itdoes as the bottom compartment that comes off

(07:05):
and can match up with the kidneypad and whatnot, and so that's really
cool. I like that pack.Yeah, we have actually, so you
know, I'm on my way backto tactical tailor. I'm going to be
starting there, not this Monday, but next Monday. And one of my
first assignments is developing some new bags. So I think probably in the next
six months we'll have some pretty neatbags coming out. But right now,

(07:29):
we have what's called an l WOPat Gregos and it's a lightweight to salt
pack and it's a it's it's aI think it's perfect for like the everyday
bag that you're going to throw yourlaptop in. You know, you can
put your pistol in it, youcan put just your water bottle, some
different things like that in it.I think it's a it's a great bag
for that. Oh this, thisbackpack is actually pretty big. Huh Do
you have this one, Bill?Yeah, it's right behind the specs that's

(07:55):
like a that's like a medium sizedbagh. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty
big. Twenty two point seven byesfove point seven by five point seven.
That's the package dimensions part of me. That's not the actual item. So
it's a full sized pack. Itjust it has it. It doesn't carry
as well. It doesn't carry aswell as a as like the Alice with

(08:20):
the with the internal frame, externalframe. It's a little it's it's it
definitely pushes the weight further away fromyour spine. But I would say for
like I have a uniform, Ihave like you know, like a saw,
I have all the like some basicdigging tools that kind of stuff like
stuff you'd work out of the bagwith, and I've got basic medical and

(08:41):
all that those kind of ditties. And it's still you know, it's it's
functional. It's really it's a lot. It's a lot lighter for what it's
like the space age materials compared tolike an Alice pack. And that's you
know, there is a there's adifference there. But I think the Alex,
I think the Alice pack actually carrieshe's better in a lot of ways
because of the frame, because Yeah, go ahead, and that's that's it.

(09:05):
That's my assessment. I've I've walkeda lot with it on the only
thing I find interesting is that it'sone thousand and fifty denar, which means
so normal, like old school stuffwas a thousand engineers, so like the
old body armor the things like that. Now we're doing stuff with five hundred.
Five hundred is kind of like thenorm right now. But even then,

(09:26):
there's three thirty and two twenty thatpeople use. Civilian backpacks are about
ninety dener depends on what final weight, but yeah, we'll explain the differences
in So has a lot has todo with the weave and the weight of
the thread that's used in the weavingor the fabric, and so that's ultimately
it comes down to how heavy thefabric is per yard, and so this

(09:50):
is the heaviest fabric I think.I think I've only seen one other fabric
that's like eleven. Yeah, that'sthat's and then they use webbing instead of
laser. So as being super snottyabout it, I would say that that
bag's heavier than it needs to be. But but it looks like a very
nice bag. In organization, youcould you know, you can do a
lot of good things to it.So I like the fact that you can.

(10:13):
Hey, well, I do likeeven though it's Mollie, that's actual
Mollie. The fact that you cando a little more modular work and put
stuff down the sides if you needto to put more weight against your spine.
That makes more sense. I guess, Like I said, I'm not
like a backpacking pro or anything. This was a it was a twofer.
So Pat bought one and it gotan extra one, so I bought it
from him. So I got adope deal on it. It was what

(10:35):
one hundred and twenty five bucks orsomething. Yeah, so so on Amazon,
so one for about one hundred andsixty nine, which isn't bad.
Way more. Yeah, backpacks arevery expensive, especially when you buy a
good one. I know that forsure. I've seen like what like Mystery
Ranch and like the stuff that GrayGhost makes, and I mean nothing like
how much is the how much ofthe Malice packs? They're crazy money.

(10:56):
Yeah, they're like six five, six hundred dollars. Yeah, it goes
like that then to go. Imean some of the recommendations down here,
ye have backpacks going for like eighteenbucks. Dude, I still got I've
still got an alice, a largealice. It's right there and it so
works perfect. Yeah, So allright, and then what else I drop
in here? This was some survivorcord I had looked at Okay, stand

(11:18):
by, so I would ask everyone thing. So for people who are
looking to buy purchase a backpack,is there any recommendation you would make in
terms of things they should look atfirst, because you're I mean in terms
of costs versus durability, those typeof things. Is there anything? Well,
like I said, the kind ofthe industry standard right now is five
hundred in here, and kinda sothat that it means the bags lighter,

(11:41):
Like everybody wants to make very verylightweight bags right now, which I'm totally
on board with. I try tofind something with a pouch that I can
put my water on the outside,so usually an external pocket that I can
put the water on or water in, and then some sort of organization.
Those are kind of the big takeawaysthat I have or when I'm when I'm

(12:03):
looking at a bag and kind ofbeing judging on it, compartmentalizing so I
can yeah, I can have organizationsa specific value. Want me to look
up so we can kind of showup for everyone in the video. Hm,
he's like this one, I meanring out the camera is going to
be really there you go. See. So this is my bag and so

(12:24):
these pockets right here are designed tohold one court canteens or something similar analogy,
and water bottles fit in there ortoo, like water bottles will fit
in there. I have a littleorganization right here. So this is where
I actually keep my We talked inthe past about I fax, So this
is where I keep my ipax. It's got my tourniquit and it's got a
couple of pressure dressings things like thatin there, gloves whatnot. And then

(12:48):
I keep a pair of spare aset of sunglasses on this side. Oh
and paper towels because you paper towels. Oh yeah, that's that's actually a
product. That's uh that Alicia's goingto be selling on our Tachiu website.
Or these glowing glowing the dark ornot glowing the dark but reflective velcrode cat

(13:09):
eyes if you will. And thenI have this high viz flap pier.
Then I have my pool out soI can have more organization to its seventeen
panel. Yeah, and then thisis nice because it keeps my my notepad
in it. Oh my god,our organizational table looks almost a lot of

(13:30):
like just where everything's at. It'sreally weird. It's just that one is
very has a lot more it's verycondensed. It seems a lot more comfortable
just saying. So that's just myEDC bag though. So that's I mean,
I still apply a lot of thosethings. If I took the camera
downstairs, you'd see a fifty explosiondown there with different things. I'm getting

(13:50):
ready for an Aerosoft event, soI've got my stuff and my girlfriend's stuff
downstairs exploded everywhere along with everything elsesince we're moving. So something along those
lines are the expectation of pricing isa couple three four hundred bucks kind of
thing. Oh, it's something likethat. Now that's probably like one twenty
one thirty one fifty. Depends onwhat you're doing, where you're doing it.

(14:13):
Okay, awesome. And this wassomething I had found just in my
own searching around. Yeah, Ithink I'd talked about this on the show
before I talked to Bill about it. So this is some survival cord ide
fats. Basically it's five to fiftycord, but what they add inside is
a one hundred and ten pound Kevarthread line TWI five pound braided fishing line

(14:37):
and then looks like it's some juteand there as well that you can use
as a firestarter. And right,so you I know my opinion on that,
Yeah, should we just go Imean, if you're going to carry
like a line or some kind likethat, should you with something like this
be a little bit too gimmicky orshould we just carry like just standard five
fifty cord? So if you're going, so this is I don't have the

(14:58):
bagup, but I have another bagand that is my travel bag. So
it's my like overnight bag or whateverif I'm going to go someplace on traveling
trip. This is the roller thatI keep with me. And there's about
thirty five feet of that type ofstuff wrapped around the handles in a tear
away like pull like daisy chain sortaway. So it just deploys easily.
And that's one of those situations whereit's like if you need it, it's

(15:22):
there, right, But the likelihoodof you needing that is I mean,
I've never deployed it, I've neverneeded it. But I also keep about
fifty feet of my normal five fiftycord in my utilitarian pouch inside my bag
as well. So and as amatter of fact, like this handle right
here is about ten feet of fivefifty cord that if I needed it,
I could use. But you know, if I needed firestarter, I've got

(15:46):
it in this pouch. If Ineeded wires in this pouch. If I
need a dental f loss, it'sin that pouch. I got a sewing
kit right there. So I wouldmuch rather have the stuff individually so that
I can use it where I don'thave to waste you know, forty yeah,
forty two dollars worth of five fiftycourts so I can get you know,
some fuyer starter out of it.The thing that this is something like

(16:10):
if you you have how long thisis, like it's feet hundred feet.
So let's say you went and youcut it needed to cut like twenty feet
of it off and then you justkind of like pull the guts out of
it and you pulled the the thefishing line out. Now you have something
you can just to fish. Youhave that little bit of shute that you
can take and you can use tohelp use the concept. All right,

(16:37):
yeah, okay, so yeah,so this is something I saw that I
thought could company handy, but Ihaven't bought it because I thought, I
don't know if it's really worth mymoney. If I because it seems like
it just means you just to havea lighter in a and a couple of
other items. Totally agree. Ifyou were going to make this, make
us like a five fifty court survivalbracelet, or you're gonna make a fivety

(16:59):
court belt or something like that, and you this is like something that just
adds redundancy to your kit, thenI would use something like that. And
you have the money to spend onit, no problem. But I wouldn't.
I wouldn't use it like it wouldstay in whatever set up I would.
It would just be there forever.I would never change, last ditch
effort, last ditch need. Yeah. Yeah, because you can go buy

(17:21):
a spool of fishing line for nothing. You can buy each of those pieces
very inexpensively for less than forty twodollars. Yeah. I mean, if
you're going to want to carry afishing kit, which you know, okay,
maybe you do, then I wouldjust do an Altoy ten survival kit
with a fishing kit inside of it, and there would be a fishing line
inside there. If you wanted todo a fire kit, I'd do an

(17:41):
Altoy ten fire kit. You know, better to buy everything individually into buying
all in one kind of the product. Yeah, but again this is tubing
spear. Again, this is justsomething else I had on my wish list.
But I would absolutely use that ifit was an a capacity where I
wanted to have that redundancy. Yeah. Okay, so it's not a complete

(18:03):
waste of money, but I shouldn'tbuy it and thinking it's gonna be absolutely
one useful. So okay. Andthen so this is these are water purification
tablets and got fifteens. So doesit say which type they are? Are
these iodine ones or which ones arethese types? And that's a good question
because I'm not so familiar with thetablets. So the old school ones were

(18:27):
iodine and they're crystallized iodine compressed intoa pill and one pill I think purified
one. It's portfl is the portableAqua iodine water disinfection tablets. So yeah,
this is idel Yes, aren't theretwo different purifiers like there's two different

(18:47):
types of tablets. Because I havesomething that's too I got it all two
bottles. Yeah, yeah, Iknow. The idea's supposed to be it's
supposed to taste terrible, but itworks. Yeah. So I don't know
if it was the the Squally waterthat that I just didn't when I drink
it, because we we did that, and when I did that, I
was like, I don't taste theee I maybe they're too old or something,

(19:10):
but yeah, I've used them beforeand they're yeah, they're fine.
I just when it comes to waterpurification stuff, I use the what the
Sawyer? Uh? Life No?No, no, not life straw.
I hate life straws. Uh.Can you do a search for Sawyer inside
of that like the gravity filter whereyou go in a bag and it goes

(19:30):
through that sort of filter. Isit just no idea? Amazon knows what
you want Sawyer water. Just typein Sawyer Water water Purifier s A W
y E R. Yeah, yeah, there it is. There you go.
I wasn't sure if it's like TomSawyer. Why So there's two different

(19:52):
ones here, both of them, both of which they sell at Walmart,
and both of which are extremely cheap. The smaller one, the first one
on the tab there, which isa two pack for forty bucks, or
the second one which is forty fivebucks for one The forty five dollars one
has a quicker volume. It cango through it real quick, whereas the
other one is a lot slower andneeds a lot more convincing to purify.

(20:18):
Basically, it comes with a bagand you put the dirty water in the
bag and you put the filter ontop of it. Squeeze the bag or
suck on the bag, or suckon the filter, and the water purifies
through the filtration system. You arebasically the pump. So these guys are
way better in my opinion than pills. Pills are great if you're going to
put them into like a kit thatis space sensitive. But also those those

(20:40):
pills, those eeem pills can gobad when they're exposed to air, so
you have to be conscious of that. This guy right here, although it's
hard to pack down, the bag, is terrible for packing. Should I
probably have one right here? Ohyeah, So here is what I've the

(21:00):
best way I've figured out how todo it right. So these are the
contents and I actually have some extraattachments on here. So this attachment right
here allows you to hook up toanother bag. So like I have this
bag right here and that'll go onthere. Then I have this attachment which

(21:22):
I think comes with it, whichis a straw, allows you to do
that. So you can then takeokay, take this attachment, put that
in there, and then hook upyour dirty bag and then do drip you
know, gravity fed system on that. Are those like normal pipe threads like
a hose. Yeah, yeah, they're they're just barbed barb connections. Okay,

(21:48):
gotcha? Okay, So yeah,so this is the the configuration.
And then I punched some holes init, or it came with holes punched
in it so that you can dangleit with five fifty quarter or whatever.
So dirty water is at the topfiltration system and then bag on the bottom.

(22:10):
And so again you can set itup where the hose. Anything that
looks dark is dirty, right,so this is always going to be dirty.
But you can basically set it upwhere you stick it in the water
and then you you know, takethe bag off and suck on it and
it'd be like a life straw ifyou will. But I like the concept
of putting it into bags because thenyou can travel with it. Again,
the problem that I have is like, this would be a lot cooler if

(22:32):
this port was on the side orsomething like that, because it doesn't this
packs down, but this is anaftermarket bag or something yeah, yeah,
which doesn't taste like plastic. Unlikecamelbacks where they taste like classic. This
one rolls down and does not packdown very well. It's very uncomfortable or
very difficult, and so I've beenlike trying to design a pouch for these

(22:53):
things and I can't can't figure itout because it's so awkward dimensionally and all
that stuff. So anyways, Yeah, the filter looks like it's about the
size of a flash bang. Yeahyeah, a little yeah, six inches
long. So yeah, it's they'repretty cool. I dig them, and

(23:18):
I only travel with those. Iused to travel with the hand pump water
filtration system one. They're bigger, they take more space, but the problem
is is they can jam up prettyeasily. Also, I bring a spear
bag with me and I can usethat bag to back float flush it.
So you put it on this endand you which if you see says float

(23:38):
that way, but you can putthe you put the clean water over here.
And you push on you squeeze it, and it gets all the gunk
out that which is important. Okay, So yeah, that's good to know.
I'll definitely have to keep Sawyer inmind. Suggestion for a multi tool.

(23:59):
Oh that's a that's pretty big rightnow, because Leatherman just lost their
trademark, yeah, or patent, yeah, patent on their stuff. And
so there's all these of course Chinesecompanies that are knocking them off. And
there's a company if you do search, just do a search in there for
Leatherman, and they'll come up allthe knock off ones. Yeah, all

(24:21):
the knock off ones will pop upthe leather Yeah, trying to find like
a sponsored one. Oh and thenI do I forgot the inside of this
bag. I do keep some ofthose water uh water purification tablets as their
redundancy just in case. Yeah,I've got the one that actually supposed to

(24:45):
like that's the one that specifically foryour rifle. It's a cheap twenty two
dollars one from spoke Lesson. Theseare actually made by Goober Goober like Goober
Gerber by the way, because II we have a friend, yeah,
uh, Dick Biggel. He hasa we used to work for Gerber.
He had a big bag full ofknives and multi tools, and I grabbed

(25:07):
a up oneside one that was acouple of knaves that were smiitting Lesson branded,
and they were what's this thing is? Yeah, they make Gerber makes
knives for other companies that they sell. They're cheap. It's a lot of
the same stuff that has a differentbrand name on it. So here's back
then, So here's one that youmight want to take a look at if

(25:27):
I can pull the chat up realquick. So are you just dising these
because you want to show why they'rebad or is it because you think?
No, what's the thing is,is they're good. I was at shot
Show and there was it wasn't thiscompany, but there was probably made in
the same facility, a rock tool, that's what it was. They man,

(25:48):
they they're actually really good. Andall the reviews and everybody that I
that I see and the ones Isaw at shot Show, we're pretty freaking
solid. So I don't know aboutthe one you're looking at right now.
That's the first one I came acrosswhen I sent it to you, But
it looks like it's probably made inthe same facility as the one I just
sent you in the chat, therock tool. They're thirty bucks versus one

(26:10):
hundred and something dollars. Now,now you know, this is one of
those places where you should probably buyus made. We can buy it in
the US. The quality is probablybetter and you know we'll have one of
these is a backup. I mean, look at all the little gadgets that
has with it for nothing. Yeah, I mean you got you got a
pocket knife with a serrated edge, which usually they're just smooth straight edges,

(26:33):
and you have a saw that isliterally edges hard sharp, impossible. Yes,
yes, at least you can showup on the other half of it.
And then pair of scissors, threestenter stuff. I got your different
can openers. It comes with aflint, flints for a fire starting,

(26:53):
window punch, and then also abit for a spot for a holding your
bit drivers and whatnot. A fileas important as well. But yeah,
so I would stick with leathermen ifyou can. But if you have to,
you know, buy something and youdon't have the money one hundred and
something dollars for a leatherman. Youcan rock tools there. They look pretty

(27:15):
legit and what it is yeah,or what it is? Yeah, glass
breaking hammer, a bit driver,a whistle and they look like that's a
flint strike and it's a fire starterstick on there. I'd say properly if
you have, if you have themeans, uh, depending on the way
the bits are set up, buythe bits that came from like the American
manufacturer, because chances are they won'tround, they might be softer. So

(27:37):
yeah, that's your mileage may vary. Yeah, because I look the price,
thirty bucks. That's a lot forthirty bucks. Yeah, I'm not
sure would want to. I mean, I guess if you're just gonna use
it as a pair of pliers thathas a couple of other things on it,
I wouldn't rely on that being myonly knife. No, No,
this this would be an augment ifyou can. That's something you buy and
then you save your you know, nickels and dimes. And because that even

(27:59):
has the same wirecutters as the replaceschool I have, yeah, replaceable uh
clam jaws. Yeah, insane, that's pretty ball. Are actually under the
circumstances for what it does. It'slike, I mean, loo look at
best and everybody goes, well,my leatherman is the best. You're like,
a leatherman is literally the jack ofall trades. It's good at nothing,
but it can kind of get itdone in general. It's not like

(28:22):
it's not like a toolkit. Yeah, I'm trying to make it work.
It's if you're just doing regular simplestuff. So, like in film school,
that's one of the things I toldus was by a leatherman, have
it on you at all times, keep it in your your tool bag or
keep it in your pocket because whenyou're doing camera stuff, yeah, you
just pull it out. You can. You can tighten down a screw or
something like that on a camera heador whatever it might be. So it's

(28:45):
good for that kind of stuff, stuff like the lust your leather rout,
it's good for that stuff. Now, if you're like in one hundred and
twice seven hours kind of a scenario, you had a cheap Chinese made leatherman
and it failed. This army knife, yeah that's what Okay, Yeah,
he had a multi tool. BasicallyI have to figure out how to chop
my own arm off with this.I should not have had this. You

(29:07):
know. He had a Swiss armyknife that he was carving into the side
of the Cliff with with the knifeblade, so he was doling it regards
mean, Swiss arm nizers are basicallythey're they're not quite a multi tool because
they don't have a they don't havea it's it's it's a multi tool.
That's why I consider it. Ihave like two that I've had since as

(29:27):
a kid. That's basically what itis. Like you look at it like,
oh, this has not just aknife, because it's a really terrible
knife. It has all these otherlittle tools on it, like scissors and
scot tweezers and all that. Allthe other car Okay, next thing,
headlamp, that cheap one that mymom just gave me, and I'd be
thinking I getting a better one. What would you on that? Like a

(29:51):
petzol or a you know whatever? What about just like a regular handheld light?
This use your phone? Uh know? Oft? Yeah, so headlamps.
So I believe in rechargeable headlamps onlythat's where I've gone. I actually
started carrying a headlamp in my kitbecause I think it's so important. So

(30:14):
this is just a little tiny onefrom Walmart and it has multiple settings with
red lens or red light on it, so it has multiple intensities green red.
I forgot it even had green. But it's nice and small, and
it recharges from a micro USB,which I keep a micro usb in my
bag here, So I find thatto be the best best timeline for functionality

(30:38):
and usable like usable hours or isit? Yeah, it's about thirty forty
five minutes. I actually used ittill it does this thing where it starts
dimming down like over the period oftime as the juice runs out, so
you kind of know when it's aboutto run out. But I have my
laptop with me, and I havea backup battery in there as well,
so I can charge it back uppretty easily. I will people investing is

(31:00):
something like that now, just becauseit's like nineteen bucks from aalmart, like
it's super cheap and the dimensions arepretty small in it. Uh So,
for tools, let's we talked abouta multi tool for let's go with a
primary knife, and then I thinkwe should get like digging tools and saws
and stuff like that after that.So for like a primary knife, what
would you recommend practical folder a gerberlike that little thing. Okay, my

(31:26):
league, I've mentioned it before,Okay, so yeah, you're talking about
that the other week. Okay,so uh, it doesn't need to bething
like like a straight blade, likea gerber that gerber, like a like
a Kershaw or anything like that fixedblade. I mean, yes, I
don't care a fixed blade. Iknow a lot of guys that do.
I I never needed one, Okay, so if I needed a knife all

(31:48):
the time, and never has itbeen like, oh I wish I had
a fixed blade over a boulder. So because I bring that up, because
I remember having a conversation with everyone'sfavorite Morgan and I said, I got
this gerber that's pretty good. I'llcarry this and he's like, no,
that's going to break. Mcgrilly goes, yeah, you need a high quality
thing like a Kershofs you can hockeycho chop and all this going off.
Well, you know that's when wewere talking about the fires the other week.

(32:12):
That was one of the things likewhen he was he was showing how
to how to make a fire,I thought, well, why wouldn't you
just use a lighter and he Ijust remember this conversation while I was editing
that episode. He was like, well, what happens if your backpack falls
in the drink? And you loseeverything you need to make a fire.
You have to have this skill. And I'm like, that's that's where he
I guess where he was coming fromon that. But at the same time,
it's like, you lose your backpack, you're having you having pretty fucking

(32:36):
awful day. He tell you something. If my backpack falls in the drink,
I'm just gonna fuck him. I'mjust gonna walk back inside the house
to heat it back on the woods. But again, most people are going
to be playing on spending a lotof time in the woods. Well,
if I drop my backpack in thesoda pop, then I will just reach
in my pocket and pull my biglighter out of my pocket. Okay,

(32:59):
so, and big lighters are very, very, very durable. There's a
lot of water sports that can happen. And still people do this thing where
they're like drop it in a jarof water and they're like, see it
doesn't work, And I'm like, give me like thirty seconds and I'll shake
it off and yeah, and it'llwork just fine. So yeah, I
don't know, it's a little weird. Uh. They just try. They're

(33:22):
like no, no, no,no, you have to have this chunk
of rocks so that you can starta fire with this. You know,
it's the same ideas that people wouldsay, Look, if you don't have
a one hundred feet of dead court, you know, and the ability to
chop down trees or open doors anda lightning flash with a detonator, you
don't have anything. I'm like, where am I going to use that?
All right? You know it's youknow, it's the same idea. So

(33:43):
so I would I was like fixedblade knives, I do take a fixed
blade when they go out in thefield. I just take the more knife.
And that's there is a knife thatI've I'm a huge fan of for
bushcraft stuff, but I have neverseen it anywhere like a heavy tang like
it's really it's it's a full tankknife, but it's it's rectangular shape.
Oh, it looks like a biglooks like almost like a big razor.

(34:06):
Yeah. And they call them cleaverknives now, but back back then they
didn't call them clever knives. Theywere just I don't know, I don't
know what they called them. Howbig is that? Uh? Okay?
That big? Yeah. Coold Steelmakes a version of it, but it's
heavy. It's heavier than the oneI had. Mine was like from China
for like ten bucks, back whenyou could buy knives for ten bucks,

(34:28):
and it was the coolest freaking thingthat I wish the steel was better.
I had to continually sharpen it,but it was awesome. But now I
just carry up more knife and ifI need, and they're cheap. More
knives are like ten bucks, Ithink for the carbon steel ones, they're
okay, super simple. Yeah,yeah, I saw a cleaver. I

(34:49):
saw a cleaver knife at willc today when I was picking up bead I
was like, that's kind of awesome. I felt like I needed to cut
somebody from playing a game of cards, so at the point, but it
was I wasn't thinking about chopping shit, but I was like, man,
that's actually pretty slick because I couldsee that, I could see the function.
But yeah, but like a fixedgate, a decent fixed blade knife

(35:09):
is something that you're not going toaccidentally fall and poke yourself with. It's
gonna bere you know you're you're notgoing to accidentally deploy it. You're gonna
open it. Yeah, and I'vecut my finger multiple times with my curse
shaws opening in my pocket because theirassisted opens. So yeah, that that's
absolutely true. So I mean Ijust I look at it like this,
having it and needing it are twothings. Like if you're out in the

(35:30):
field, I see a total reasonto have a fixed blade, but in
general, just a folder and youdon't have to have a Brodie big one.
Look at that little baby thing thathe has. It's probably like a
razor though, so it does everythingyou want to be and then you should
familiarize yourself on how to sharpen aknife. That's probably something that's the skill
set you should probably familiarize yourself with. So in someone it's actually I actually

(35:52):
carry a sharpening stone in my wallet, like one of these something like that.
Uh no, it's a little diamondstone. I'll see if I can
pull onto the next thing and I'lltry and find it for you. I
have. I bought a diamond stonesharpening block at one point in time.
I'm not sure how effect. Imean, I was able to get a
couple of knives from super doll tolike somewhat usable. They're supposed to put

(36:16):
some water on it and then youjust kind of like just glide your blade
on it and kind of grind awaythat gram. It just makes it so
you can make something. Oh yeah, I like that, But your knife
needs to be basically already sharpened, and that's just is used to kind of
finish it off. So I justsent you a link to three different stones,
three hundred and sixty and one thousanddiamond credit card size. I keep

(36:38):
one of them in my wallet. You know, the more you wear it
down, the hirer and hiring youknow, fineness it goes. So I
think I've used the three hundred andsix center. I'll tell you what you
want, Wess, I'm going togive you the secret right here. You
want to win a woman over, this is what you do. You put

(37:00):
one of those stones, you learnhow to use one of the stones,
you put it in your wallet. When you go over to their house and
they're like making dinner or something likethat, you sharpen their knives for them.
It said chance that will one thousand, one thousand. Yeah, because
that's the cart right now. Yes, No, I'm because dead serious.

(37:22):
I'm dead serious. You go overand you sharpen women's knives for them,
they will, they'll lose their minds. And then also if a dude comes
over after you were there, they'llbe like, who sharpened your knives?
Because every dude will notice if somewomen's knives are sharp after they were not
sharp. Yeah, who did this? Yeah? Who is the person that's

(37:45):
been in the game. That's themeaning I didn't learn in Boy Scouts how
to check a knife for sharpness.I just I can kind of like like
rub it against my hand. Ican feel if it's got some burrs on
it or not. Other than that, I nothing danger nothing more dangerous in
the kitchen than a dull knife. You will cut the ship out of yourself
because you have to push too hard. Any sharpen my my chef's knife that

(38:07):
I have, and I just havea cheap one. And I was cutting
up some chicken wings for the SuperBowl and I was like, man,
I wish I had some time tosit here and actually sharpen this thing because
it was it was getting a littlebit tough and I had to basically basically
break the bones and like that's whereyou have to get yourself a boost off,
spend the money. Well yeah yeahso this, yeah, it'll come

(38:30):
in handy. Yeah. So Iactually ended up making a bunch of those
using wet, wet, dry sandpaper and different grits, and I use
metal metal cards like business cards, okay, and uh and so yeah,
I just uh, I don't evenknow if I kind of like stick it
down on the table and just kindof glide the knife across it to kind

(38:51):
of get it. Yeah you can. Yeah, so this is this is
one of those cards. I havetwo different grits of wet dry sand paper
on them, and then I cansharpen. It's good enough to get things
pretty sharp. But yeah, doyou use a circular method or you just
pass it? No, I justgo over go over it. I mean,

(39:12):
there's a couple of different tricks thatI'll do, but I'll just usually
hold it in my hand and justyeah the dragon. Yeah, that's how
I usually sharper knives. What Ihave is you're supposed to set it down
on the table and you just kindof like take the knife and kind of
pull it, or you can kindof like kind of you can do kind
of a back and forth and kindof a song more motion if you have
a really really dull point and youwant to get it. So just kind

(39:32):
of like when I've got burrs,I massage it and I get the burrs
off and then I start making Idrag the knife. You want to get
that fine tip? Yeah, butI'll say the funny thing is the most
manly sh it just happened when somebodysays, hey, do you have a
nice shopty kid? Yeah, thisis it. And what happens immediately watch
make sure my ship's sharp. Yep, that's what I just did. Yeah,

(39:53):
a little quick check. It's like, and why not? Can this
take a man's life? Yep?Click back in the game. Look at
that. It's good to know thatyou don't need to go and spend,
like, you know, five hundreddollars on a really nice stainless steel Oh
yeah knife. So I got thisfrom shot show one year, but they

(40:14):
sell them for nine bucks. It'sa sog multi tool, little keychain thing.
But if you look, I don'tknow how to see it, but
if you look right up at thetop right there, there's a car By
blade sharpener. Oh so if Iget, if I get, if I
go over somebody's house and they havereally shitty knives, I'll put an edge
with this and then I'll finish itoff with the sea one or or the

(40:34):
wet dry sandpaper. Yeah. Yeah, I was gonna say, it looks
like you have half three eighths anda quarter inch wrench, and then it
looks like it almost like you havea gas key, and then you have
a quarter inch. Yeah, there'sa little seat belt cutter right there,
and then a bunch of different sizesbottle opener right here, and then a
bit driver right there, a coupleof screwdrivers. It's got a lot of

(40:57):
tools sharpening like ten bucks. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah. I
have a little real LaRue tactical armadello. That's a bottle opener bottle that you
can open like two or three differenttypes of bottles with it. Did I
think we need to do this showfor the next few shows and go through
products so people know, yeah, yeah this is a thing. Any other
essentials for backpack stuffers for the packinglist. I just realized that I should

(41:22):
have I gotten over my load outin my bags yet? Have we do?
I really haven't. We should dothat with this guy. Yeah,
let's I mean we're yeah, we'reabout forty five minutes now. We can
go a couple more minutes on thisif you want to get into it.
I think I'll add some value forthe people at home it's a okay,
that'll be a whole thing. Wellthat next thing, let's let's cover food

(41:44):
for mrs. I mean, justwant do you think we should just be
telling people grab regular emris or asthere anything specific we should look at because
I know the full the full packsare pretty big. Should you just be
taking the food kid out or I'mI'm not a fan of MRIs because I
don't want to eat MR. SoI believe in other things, anything other

(42:04):
than MRI though, Yeah, butlike, okay, how much is an
MRI twelve dollars? Yeah? Andhow much food can you buy for twelve
dollars A winko, A lot,a lot. Yeah, So like just
one MRI you could buy a lotof food, you know. So I
just I just am not a fanof MRI. Is if you want to
talk about like travel, like foodyou can travel with, well, then

(42:28):
just go to the go to themiddle of the store and buy whatever's in
there, put it in a bag, and you're done. Walk right to
the middle of the store right notquite past where the macarai cheese is at,
but right that macarai and cheese areathat is one of the places you
can find shit. I bought thoseafter you've said they actually tasted good,
and I don't get to eat themanymore right now because I'm on a cutting

(42:51):
diet. But I buy them formy kid, and they're fucking delicious.
It's just like macarine cheese. Youknow what makes a really good meal ready
to eat? You can cook it, but it's I think it's tasty.
If you don't cook jack beans andtortillas, top ramen. Top Ramen is
horrible for you. Raw top ramen, I mean, but it's a delicious
It's a great source of carbohydrates. If you need a carbohydrate in your body,

(43:14):
like salt. It will put saltdry. No, no, no,
it's a cracker. I understand thatI've done that too, but I
mean what I'm saying to you isis that as an adult, I will
take water. I will put thatin there. I usually cut. I
also pair the water down typically,so it's typically noodles. But the salt
is good for you. If yougotta be you got to be mentalist,

(43:34):
fucked Bill. So what you gottado is you eat the mr dry,
You drink a cup of scalding hotwater, and then you snort the powder.
That's how you eat it like aman what you do the whole time,
Like, so you do the ramen, but then you also go over
and you either get a tunic packor a chicken pack, which I prefer

(43:55):
chicken, So you get a chickenpack, and then you also buy a
little mini can of mixed vegetables inthe can section. So now you've got
veggies, you've got a protein source, you got the carb source, and
that I think would be a totalof four dollars maybe, And that's more
food than you can probably eat.And that's on a lot of volume.

(44:15):
Yeah, And there's the ramen packets. They're small and they you cook them.
You can get one of those. They're like three calories or something or
four hundred calories per brick. Soand that's a lot of that's go food.
So it's emergency brash. I mean, this is avery with with with

(44:36):
military canteens. You have like thesmall the detachable cup you just call it
a cup or a mug or canteencup. Is you're talking about canteen specifically,
Yeah, because I mean you canmake a soup in that. You
can just take it and you canset it next to put a stone in
the fire and set it on topof the stone to heat it, or
just I guess put it in thecoals and then you can boil the water.
And then you just put your ramenin there with your flavor packet and

(45:00):
you can just cook it right thereif you wanted to have it cooked.
What you do is what you dois you go to the place and you
see that there is a microwave, and you take out your cup. Then
you like, not your cant cup. You take that little little little cup,
you peel back the top, youpour the water in it. It's

(45:20):
good. So this is I thinkit was a seven hundred and fifty militer
bottle. This is what I'm tryingto switch to. I'm pretty much only
using these. This is from Thisis like some alkaline fucking water something weird.
It's it's they sell it the dollarstore. But the reason why I
know I have one of those, the reason why I have this one is
because it's so large but also hasa wide mouth, and I prefer wide

(45:43):
mouth bottles, so you never knowwhen you'renna have the pe in one.
But I found out that this convenientlyfits a toats. I think is what
this or this is a snow peak. This is a snow peak. Oh
shit. So now you've got acanteen cup you can load into a pouch.
Yeah, it comes with a lid, goes on the bottom. And
then this is your traditional canteen stuffthat you're talking about. Now it only

(46:06):
fits canteens, so that kind ofsucks. But there's a lot of different
companies out there that make them fornalgae and water balls, which is what
this actually is for. As foranalogy, and this just dimensionally happens to
match up. But what's cool aboutthis one is is it comes with the
stove, and the stove fits onthe bottom of it, and you can
use heating tabs underneath it or justbuild a little wooden fire underneath it and

(46:28):
you do that. That's cool.Yeah, that's long lines what I was
thinking. You can just kind ofset that next to fire and get it
hot, and you know that willcook one package ramen, which is enough
to feed for sure. And yeah, just need a protein source to go
with it. That's that's where youlocate a robin's egg and throw it in
there and then you're good tasty.Yeah, yeah, that shut up crack.

(46:52):
Some find some quail eggs, crackthose up and toss them in there.
So right before I left battalion,we were basically we're tired of eating
MRIs and whatnot. So either peoplewould order a pizza before they went to
the field and they would just putit in ziplock bag and put in their
cargo pocket. Or you would takethe map flap of your chest rig and

(47:14):
people would just line the inside ofthat with either granola bars, protein bars,
or power bars, cliff bars, that type of thing, and you
just have this line of these bars. Whenever you got hungry, you just
reach ready, set go, Ready, set go two other calories. Yeah,
yeah, so yeah, that's that'skind of where everybody went to.
And that's kind of where I goback to when I start putting my food

(47:37):
stuff together for my like zombie kitsand whatnot. I don't put mr meals
in there, or I don't putdehydrated meals. I just put energy in
there. And if you know,if you're in a place where you need
to eat something that's there for you. So oh, by the way,
I've been using quest bars because youcan get a higher protein content or you
get like twenty twenty two grams ofprotein so you don't lose muscle like you

(47:59):
know or not. You're actually gettingkind of a balance. You don't want
it when you're doing like a Youdon't want pure carbohydrates. You want balance
in order for your body to assimilatebetter. Otherwise you're gonna have a unique
shitting situations shortly so, and thatbecomes its own hole set of problem.
So just saying so it's an augmentingthing. Yeah, so, and then
there's also there are also some discussionsabout different types of wave protein that can

(48:22):
keep you going. But but youstill have to figure out a way to
determine a vegetable, like Avery saying, I think in that situation, it's
just keep the engine running. Idon't I don't care as long as I
have something to put in there. He's like he's over here and getting some
metrics on h. I've definitely learneda few things today, So I appreciate

(48:45):
the knowledge and them fe hopefully everyoneat home I appreciate as well. I
think we should keep doing these.Yeah. One last thing, let's do
radio is real quick awesome radios.Thank you for catching me on that.
Let's do radios? Are we recommendingthe UV five R. I have one
for Airsoft, is that yep?So I'm a big fan of the UV

(49:05):
five RS. I keep a commsbox and inside that box as ten or
fifteen depending on how many you knowyou have, you can throw those in
there. There's a few accessories likeout of the box. If you were
in zombie apocalypse land and somebody drawair dropped one of those kits to you,
you'd be good to go. However, there's a few pieces of equipment
that you really should have to augmentthat. So Wes is going to pull

(49:30):
it up for us real quick.Just any UV five R combo pack like
that one right there for example, actually second one down from the top,
yep. Overall, pick oh theone that has the extra So what that
is the one I would do andthe reason I would do that one?
Does this say it comes up withfour batteries or does it come with two
batteries? So what we're looking athere is this is the eight walt one,

(49:52):
which is debatable depending on who youtalk to and who does the test
on them. A lot of timesthese eight don't put out any more than
like six or seven watts. Butwhatever, man, this package right here
is probably the closest to the commercialoff the shelf package that you would want.
So this has two radios quote unquoteeight watts and it comes The most

(50:15):
important thing is it comes with twolong antennas, which is eighteen point five
inch antennas. And the most importantpart is it comes with a USB charger
for the battery system. So thatallows you to take a backup battery bank
or a car charge report or anythinglike that, plug it in and charge
your battery up. Now, I'vehad very crappy luck with those, and

(50:36):
I'm hoping that I can convince Discothirty two to make a high quality USB
charging port for these. I've beenin talks with him to do that for
the community. But in any rate, is it because you have just cheap
resistors or something in it to makeit sure that the whole thing's trash so
it's low efficiency that the plastic housingwhere the green light is on that thing,

(51:00):
the plastic housings pop off and youjust have this raw circuit board.
So like as soon as you getthem, you need to run a bead
of super glue around the seams tomake sure it holds together. Just the
whole thing is just it's a trashunit I've had. I've had more like
you don't know if it's actually chargingbecause the some of the lights don't turn
on when it's charging. It turnsgreen when it's charged. Some that turns

(51:21):
red when it's charging and then turnsgreen when it's charged, so I never
really know what I'm dealing with. The other thing to take in the consideration
is, yes, you want wattageon a radio, but the more important
is your antenna. So getting ahigh quality like nou knowagy I can never
say their names. I know we'vetalked about this before, but the Noroku

(51:42):
or Neurogi or whatever it is eighteenfive L so it's like, man,
I should probably look at it anscreen right now. This is the This
is the combo pack that I bought. So I have the extended battery that
I can use in lieu of theother battery. So it kind of makes
the the overall size the radio bigger. I have the USB charger that works

(52:04):
on the extended battery. I've gotthis wide whip. Then I have the
the short nubby option for a INTENDA. I don't use this short, I
use the wide. You know, whippy one, the earbud I'm just not
going to use because it's terrible. And then a couple of straps that don't
use. And there's the stand charger. Uh, don't use that because I
don't need to. And then there'sa belt clip. Also don't really use

(52:30):
that. But this was like, you know, thirty five bucks. Yeah.
I use the stand charger because Ihave two batteries, so I keep
one always charged. I used thestand charger for the small one. And
but the big one comes with thatlittle plug in and I can charge it
with either USB or with something else. And then I bought separately. I
have a red cable. I thinkthis big pack comes with one, so

(52:52):
mine is red. You can kindof see it in the middle of next
has two short, nubby little uhantennas. Yeah, so let's be plugged
in and then you can get aspecial program. Have you used it?
Have you tried to use it?Yeah? I mail I failed miserably at
using it. That's because that's becausethat cable's trash. You have to have

(53:13):
to buy a different program cable. Now, you don't need a program cable
in order to program your radios. But if you're going to program them.
You'd need to have a different programmingcable for it. Let me let me
see which one I got. Ithink I should be a look at it
pretty quickly. Five or programming cable. Yeah. I had a light on

(53:43):
it and it connected it. Itworked, I mean, it communicated with
the computer grade. I just didn'tknow how to how to type in the
right frequencies and how to program eachone of the channels because it did program
over. It just it wasn't communicatingwith other radios. And then I think
it was because I didn't. I'llbreak it first. I gotta I gotta
actually take the time and get thecorrect frequencies program done. You don't have

(54:07):
to jail bring bothang radios unless you'retrying to crazy shit. It was I
was having problems where I couldn't communicatewith anyone at all, and he went
and he did a couple of thingsand put in the button uh combination.
Then jail broke it for me.Not works. So so I just sent

(54:28):
you the cable that I got,and that one has worked lawlessly. I
have been and especially with CHIRP twopoint zero out now it's super easy to
program everything up. So the onlyhard part was recognizing which port you're plugging
that device into, because then youhad to basically load the drivers onto that
port. And then once you didthat, it was good to go.

(54:50):
But and then the last thing Iwant to mention is the correct antenna.
So depending on what you're doing withyour antenna, they had I close it
me. Oh there it is.Nagoya is the name of the antenna,
and they're twenty nine twenty dollars andninety eight cents. And there's an NA
seven seven to one which is goingto allow you to use your radio to

(55:14):
the fullest potential. Now, theBri Intenda that you have is actually a
really good antenna. Crash course,Ham guy he mentioned he did a test
on the Abri antennas and they workedreally well. Okay, that's what mine
is. It's an Abria. Yeah. I like it. It works while
I get a good reception and itbroadcasts perfectly on it, So no complaints

(55:35):
there. So is just the Nagoyayou're talking about here, The yep in
A seven seventy one okay, sonice fifteen point six inch whip. Yeah,
I find those are just better. They just I worry about having Abri
on top of it getting caught onstuff or you know, bending and breaking
the radio. And these guys arejust real simple. So I have a

(55:57):
bunch of those. But you know, the other to you I want to
consider is having your small antenna. In the event that you want to have
a radio and people not see thatyou have a radio, you can carry
it more stealthily with a shorter antennain the yearbud piece. Easy to toss
into a bag that way for sure. Yeah. Portability, yeah, whip
pay for what do you pay forit for? Like you know, the

(56:22):
twenty five dollars whatever it ends upbeing. These things are really handy.
There's the radio. Yeah, wellthey have an FM receiver on it.
Exactly was about to say is I. I was fucking around with the FM
receiver and I was able to geta really good, clean reception on all
the local stations. You could hearmusic. And then I was trying to

(56:43):
hook it up to my my stereoheadset on my helmet, and that head
set was a complete waste of mind. It never never fucking worked, a
waste of twenty five dollars. Butwhat I did get to work, I
could listen on it like a pairof headphones. I mean sounded pretty good.
I think I plugged in an actualpair of these headphones into the no,

(57:05):
I couldn't because this one doesn't threepoint five millimeter, So this I
needed. I need a two pointfive millimeter pair of headphones to be able
to listen. But if I did, I'm sure it would sound good.
Well. The upside is is notillegal to listen. Yeah, yeah,
that's pretty cool. The fact ifyou just like tune in catch catch radio

(57:27):
news updates, that's awesome. Ithink we need to do this more we
go. We got to start lookingat through products and talk about stuff.
