Todavía quedan manchas de sangre en la cama de una humilde habitación. Es lo único que queda de una de las hermanas que fueron asesinadas por Teonna. El lugar es examinado por un agente de la ley mientras que el Padre Renaud le explica los crímenes cometidos por la fugitiva. Una semana ha pasado desde que la comitiva de tres sacerdotes fue a buscarla y no se ha sabido nada de ellos. La persecución de la fugitiva se ha escalado, mientras que, en tierras lejanas, los cadáveres de religiosos y nativos se pudren por igual. La diferencia es que los cadáveres de los sacerdotes fueron escalpados y tienen marcados sus crímenes en sangre sobre sus pechos.
En una choza, la ensangrentada Teonna descansa cuando finalmente es encontrada por su padre. Con ella, Pedro Muchas Nubes y Corre su Caballo deben de alejarse si no quieren ser alcanzados por la ley del hombre blanco.
