Speaker 1 (00:08):
Previous play, we'll go under review.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
What's going on? Everybody.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Thank you so much for tuning into this week's episode
of Under Review.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
My name is Joda Rosa.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
And it's good to be back here again with you
as we venture further into the Buffalo Bills Training Camp
Extravaganza series. That is not actually what these episodes have
been called, but might as well call them that, because
that's what we're covering tonight. As we continue on after
now a full fledged week of Buffalo Bills training camp,
we have had some highs, some terrifying lows that ultimately

(01:03):
ended up being positive, you know, not the worst case scenario,
and a lot to cover. And there's been someone that
I have been following, I am sure you have been
following as well, that has been covering this extensively, doing
a wonderful job at it, and I wanted to get
that said person here on the show tonight to talk
about Buffalo Bill's training camp a bit more extensively. And
that person, someone who has been on the show before,

(01:25):
is mister Alex Brawski, mister Bill's digest himself.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Alex. I appreciate your time.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
I know that you know, we tried to coordinate this
in the past, and I'm always happy to have you here.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
How you doing tonight, man, how's thing's been.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'm doing great, Joe.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
It's been fun covering training camp from a little bit
different of a lens, but we've been able to get
out there each and every day. Hopefully moving forward, will
be there more often than not. So it's been fun.
The weather's been good, only rained really the one day,
so can't complain on that end.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
And looking forward to the return of the Blue and red.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yes, and that is, you know, one of the most
exciting events of the summer. It's such a cool experience
for anyone who gets to go. And I'm just more curious,
you know, the biggest news of it what color helmet
Josh Allen's going to come out with, because he seems
to change it up every year. Now I'm wondering if
he's going to get really weird with it tomorrow or
if he just goes back to red because of the
recent news. But Alex, I mean, let's get right to it.

(02:24):
A full fledged insane week to put it lightly, because
between the really fun things that we've been able to
see from camp, including some flashes from guys like Keon Coleman,
some bits of Josh Palmer.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
James Cook.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
There have also been some substantial news cycles that have happened,
including the Max Harston's scare that thankfully we can come
onto this show and talk about as a dodged bullet
as it turns out to just be an injury to
his LCL and he can recover from it in a
few weeks. But as of today, there was a few
more names that kind of entered the circuit, including guys
like Cole Bishop and Josh Palmer that have seemed to

(02:59):
be banged up in some way, And I would love
to hear you just kind of elaborate more on what
you know about those injuries and anyone else that should
be on Bills fans radar as we get further into
the summer before preseason starts.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Yeah, very good news about Max Harriston, as it was
a rumored ACL injury turns out to be that LCL,
which is kind of.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
A unique injury, something that.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
The Bills are hopeful I believe that he'll be back
from in a month's time. He was seen on crutches
after practice today by Andy Young of Spectrum News. So
trying to keep the weight off that leg and trying
to initiate the recovery process here. For Maxwell Harriston, he
was in good spirits. There's a photo of him on

(03:45):
the Bills social media page smiling, and I think he
was interacting with his teammates as well. So seems to
be in good spirits and seems to be ready to
move forward and hopefully be ready close to week one.
But as far as Cole Bishop, he left the practice
field on Tuesday, so I'm going to the medical tent quickly,
came back out, was on the sideline with his teammates

(04:07):
with his helmet on for the remainder of the practice,
but he did not re enter team drills, so there
was some question as to is he injured, is he
not injured? And sure enough, after the day off come Thursday,
they announced it's a quad injury for cold Bishop. Now,
it could just be a contusion, could be a minor strain,
could be nothing to worry about. They've been very cautious

(04:27):
with a lot of these players, i think early in
the season, so at this point I don't think it's
anything to panic about. I think we'll get an update
from Sean McDermott at the return of the Blue and Red.
So something to monitor with cold Bishop, for sure, but
I don't think something to overreact about quite yet. The
only problem there is these are minor injuries that are

(04:50):
starting to build with him, especially at the wrong times.
He suffered the shoulder injury during his rookie season during
training camp, had the what appeared to be a core
injury during the off season program, and now the quad
injury during training camp, and he's missing valuable reps. As
he's in pursuit of that starting job. The team is
very likely handing him the keys to the car in

(05:12):
terms of the safety job opposite tailor rap and the
only thing that could drive him off the road is
an injury, and that's what he's experiencing right now. When
we saw tomorrow, Hamlin mixing in there with the first team,
and I think he's going to be first in.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Line after Cole Bishop.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
It seemed to be a three man race with he
Bishop and Derek Forrest at the beginning of training camp,
but as time is going on, it's turned into Bishop
in the front seat, Hamlin in the back seat, and
Derek Forrest kind of hanging on for dear life. But
we'll see as things progress. Josh Palmer don't know much

(05:47):
about his injury. He left practice during individual drills on Thursday,
but we didn't hear a report from the team. He
was on the field without his helmet on throughout team drills,
So we'll wait for an update on Josh Palmer. Okay, So,
I mean there was a lot to digest, but it's
been a lot in terms of these injuries.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Joe yes, and that it has been a very stressful,
I guess series of events if you're a Bills fan. Now,
I'm a big believer that at this stage of the game,
especially knowing that the Bills are a bit more cautious
with how they approach injuries, that there's nothing really too
much to worry about.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Obviously, the Hairston news.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
With how ambiguous it was and the dreaded like non
contact injury component that makes everyone hold their breath, that's
something that I think was valid to be stressed over.
And again, as we've said before, it ended up not
being anything close to the worst case scenario. And I
think in the case of Harston, someone who was already
kind of shadowing veterans in the room like Benford and

(06:47):
Trey White and seemed to be kind of in like
the backseat of the CB two conversation to Trey White.
At this point, it's not a detriment to him because
he was always going to need a season to develop anyways,
in my opinion, and this just kind of reaffirms that
with a few weeks missed in camp, it's not the
end of the world for him. It could have been
way worse, and I still think there's going to be

(07:07):
plenty of productive play from him in that regard. The
cold Bishop news is disappointing only because I was really
hoping to not have to see him miss any time,
just considering what last year was. As you alluded to,
he goes down with the shoulder injury, he misses a
ton of time, and we're talking about Hamlin coming into start.
And while I'm one of the people who defends Hamlin

(07:28):
for you know, the type of player he is and
what he was able to bring to that room, which
was stability and you know, not awful play, like people
have seemed to kind of crucify him for I wanted
Bishop to get consistent reps and I am really hoping
that this injury as if it seems not serious, stays
that way and he can get back on the field soon,
because again, it's.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Just that's who you're handing the keys to.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
That's who you are really relying on to be a
versatile starter that you can move all over the field
and has ability to excel all over the field. So
he needs to stay healthy, stay available, and I hope
he can. And then with Josh Palmer, I mean, it's vague,
but it doesn't seem too brutal something that would keep
him out for a long term. I'm hoping it's just
something that's seen as day to day or you know,

(08:10):
at worst, week to week. But man, the injuries are
mounting up for this team. All we can hope is
that they got a clean bill of health. The good
news that came out today Alex Spencer Brown getting off
the pup list and coming back.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
That is a big addition.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
But I do want to ask you this question before
we pivot to a different topic. The battle for his position,
which isn't actually a battle for his position. He's coming back,
but the backup tackles. I mean, what have you seen
between you know, Van Demark and Tyland Grabil you know,
Vander Mart's been on the team for a few seasons.
Grabel drafted last season something that people have called an
Aaron Cromer heat check. I mean, what did you see

(08:46):
from that competition? And who would you say is the
first in line to step in if Brown or Dawkins
go down this year for any period of time.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yeah, I think they're more comfortable with Ryan Vandermark at
left tackle and Dean Dawkins was provided a veteran and
rest day on Thursday, and that's who you saw at
left tackle, Ryan Vandamark.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
And at right.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Tackle, it has been a mix between vandom Mark and
Tylan Grabel. Grabel has been there with the first team,
I think a little bit more often than vanderm Mark,
and you saw the swing tackle role kind of shift
in his direction last season, So I think that's kind
of been the trend to begin training camp Grabel in

(09:25):
there first. But they're certainly not giving up on Ryan Vandermark.
He's been in the pipeline for a few years. They
like what they have with Ryan Vandermark, and I just
think they like him a little bit better at left tackle.
I think that's been well established and reported on.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
And as far as Grabel.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
I think he may be a little bit more athletic,
a little bit better of an anchor at right tackle
than Ryan Vandermark. So as far as reps are concerned,
and I'm no offensive line guru like Aaron Kromer, but
I can read the reps and it seems like Tylan
Grabel Is is likely in line for that at least

(10:03):
right tackle role if Spencer Brown was to miss any time.
But it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about
in that circumstance. It removed from the pup list, and
on Thursday he was doing some offensive line activity and
really testing out that back and flexibility. So a good
sign there, and if he were to miss time, as

(10:24):
I said, probably Grabel, but Van and Mark also in
the mix.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Extremely reassuring to hear that. Very happy he's back on
the field. Also was happy to see Dawson Knox return.
It does kind of pay me a little bit because,
as you've seen, with me relentlessly quote tweeting you, the
Killdozer will probably not be getting as many first team reps.
But I still think he's a part of their plan
and it's nice to have a familiar face back and
to see what this offense can kind of transform into

(10:50):
this season, as the team seems to be showing a
bit more play action and pistol looks, which I know
Eric was referring to today that they were running heavily.
And that's exciting because I think you need to have
all hands on deck if you're trying to really reinvent
yourself or at the very least build off of what
you did last year, which was again just the franchise's
best offense that they've ever seen. So exciting news. I

(11:11):
think the injury front is it's healing, it's getting better progressively.
But I want to pivot this now to just really
the players that we are seeing major flashes from and
just significant impact from. And I want to start with
just the rookies because I think that you know, many
people have been asking a lot about you know, TJ. Sanders,
Dion Walker, Land and Jackson, all these guys. I mean,

(11:34):
in your eyes from being there in person and seeing them,
who has popped off? Has there been anyone that has
popped off or flashed in your eyes? Or has it
been quiet from really everyone? What's your take on this?

Speaker 1 (11:46):
On Thursday?

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Land and Jackson really at his first I would say
breakthrough day, a couple of plays in the backfield and
getting good pressure on the quarterback. Now he's doing it
against the second and third team. He's not seeing a
lot of first team reps. And that's just simply because
they're I don't want to say loaded, but they have
a lot of personnel at the edge rusher position when

(12:08):
it comes to Javon Solomon, Michael Hoyt, Joey Bosa, Greg
Russeu aj Epineza. So he's down in the pecking order,
and I think a trade candidate might be aj Epeneza,
whether it be at the outset of the season or
when Michael Hoyt comes back later approaching the trade deadline.

(12:29):
So right now, Landon Jackson I think is starting to
trend up.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
But as I said, the pecking order is a little bit.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Thick there, and and he's on the outside looking in
in terms of increased reps just due to being a
rookie and the capital they used with signing Michael Hoyt
in the offseason and what they have and aj epeness
and Greg Russo, and also you're bringing to Joey Bosa,
and then you look back at the draft last year
as Javon Solomon, So there's a lot of cooks in

(12:59):
the kitchen.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
There, as they say.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
And elsewhere along the defensive line, I'd say Dion Walker
and TJ Sanders have seen ample time with the first
team and they've been working together a lot, kind of
attached the hip out there. I think they're rooming together
at training camp, both mentioning on a Bill's social media
video that both of them snore too loud, So they've

(13:22):
spent time together sleeping in the bunk or the dorm
rooms at training camp.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Together, I believe. But yeah, as far as their.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Play is concerned, Dion Walker I think still has somewhat
of a waste to go, but you've seen the flashes.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
TJ.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Sanders, I think is ready right now to impact the
game at a high level and his confidence is just
oozing out of him. And I've been really impressed with
what I've seen from TJ.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Sanders.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
And then finally, gregorssou had a veteran rest day today,
but he and Ed Oliver have been pretty close to
dominant throughout training camp. The Bills have a great offensive line,
and to see the Bill's top two defensive lineman making
an impact on a day to day basis. At Oliver
was in the backfield all day today, that's a very
positive sign.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Love hearing how many names are on that D line
that are having good camps so far.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
And just to start with the.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Rookies, I mean, yeah, it's a crowded room for a
guy like Landon Jackson, but I think, and it's why
I kind of have very tempered expectations because I think
when you have aj Epenez on a contract year year two,
Javon Solomon, I don't really think, and plus Joey Bose
in addition to Michael Hoyt coming off the suspensions you mentioned,
I don't know really how much playing time he's going

(14:36):
to get right away. But all I'm asking for is
just positive signs kind of like we saw with Solomon
last year, who I think is poised for a big
year or two. And hearing about TJ. Sanders is awesome.
It's awesome because I mean, yes, when I was watching
the Bills go into this draft class, I was really
hoping they'd come away within Alfred Collins or one of
the short and stout guys like Jamari called well a

(14:58):
true run stuffer Tyler Williams. Even Sanders is more of
what they've had before, but he's younger and has plenty
of potential to be an extreme disruptor up front. So
if you're seeing these signs in padded practice, I think
that's great and something really encouraging for a Buffalo Bills
defensive line that is going to call upon these young
players very quickly, at least in the interior, with like

(15:19):
Dion Walker being the other and Walker, I've said so
many times as a huge project. So I mean, it's
okay if he's not ready yet. If there's positive signs
or any sort of flashes at all, I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
But I really, I mean, for.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Me, have looked at this and just to kind of
pivot over to the offense. Like again, James Cook has
flashed a bunch, and I've seen plenty of rapport with
Keon Coleman, and I want to talk more about him
because like it just truly I have said that for
this season, I am hoping for just better wide receiver.
Two numbers from him and something in the tier of

(15:54):
like seven fifty to nine hundred yards and a few
touchdowns is something I'd be comfortable with. But while camps
started and you saw some moments of him kind of
having lapses and drops and whatever. And while it's still
not perfect, I think he each passing day has grown
more and more and has shown out more and more
to a point where you start wondering, like, is he

(16:16):
actually developing into a really stout option? Now it's only practice,
it's training camp, but I'm really excited. And I said
this last week when I had Anthony on the show,
that Keon Coleman's development was my third biggest storyline for
the team in general, because the gravity of a developed
Coleman is a trickle down effect into every room on
your offense, whether you're talking about what you can get

(16:37):
away in the passing game or now the threat of
the run paired with a viable target him as a blocker.
All these things just improve on their own with Coleman's development.
So I want to hear your take on him too.
I mean, he's been the star of the show. He
seems to be in everyone's vision every single practice. What
do you think about Coleman so far?

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah, love what I've seen from Keon Coleman.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
He's been at assistant contributor throughout the course, of training camp,
and I think the word with Keon Coleman is refinement.
I think he's refining everything about his game. When it
comes to his route running, he's a little bit more compact.
When it comes to his separation ability, I think that's
improved a little bit. I think his physicality has taken

(17:21):
a clear step forward. And his confidence, although it was
already sky high entering his rookie year, I think it's
a little bit more of a quiet confidence this year
and just somebody who knows that he's put in the
work this offseason. He's done what it's taken to reach
that next level, and we've seen signs of that throughout

(17:44):
training camp. The Bills have been feeding him consistently now.
On Day one, he went up against Christian Benford, the
team's top defender in the secondary, and.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
He struggled a little bit. He couldn't come away with
a reception.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
He struggled with Benford's physickelity a little bit, But then again,
it was day one, the pads weren't on yet. As
time has gone on, he's just become more and more
consistent with everything that he's done and he's reaping the rewards.
He's connecting with Josh Allen time and again. You saw
the video on the bill social media channel today. I

(18:18):
think that's a great example of what we've seen from him.
He hasn't let anything impact his focus throughout the course
of the route, and he had Dane Jackson hanging all
over him in the video posted today on the Bills
social media page, and he was still able to fight
through that and come away with a great reception, and
to come away with that type of contested catch kind

(18:38):
of going across his body, not something up straight high,
straight up high. I think he's maybe struggled a little
bit more with the lateral catches more so than going
straight up.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Throughout the course of training camp.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
We've seen a couple balls glance off his hands going
across the middle, but when it comes to going up top,
he's really done a nice job. So this one going
across the back line of the end zone, stretching with
Dane Jackson in his hip pocket, that was really a
great example of what Keon Coleman's done throughout training camp,
and really excited to see what he has to offer

(19:12):
come the regular season, especially when some of the league's
top defenders are matched up against him, and.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
He's going to be tested early when they face a
Baltimore secondary that has ample options for man coverage. You're
talking about Alexander Marlin, Humphrey, Nate Wigan, Like, there's there's
so many people there that can test them. And to
see these flashes in camp is very reassuring because again,
refinement was the name of the game for Keon Coleman.
We all knew what he could be. We all know
why they took him because he's a trade sy guy.

(19:40):
And if these traits are realized, you're going to get
a star. I don't want to call him a star yet.
I'm not going to put a crown on his head
just yet. But if we're seeing, you know, these moments
in camp, I think that just bosed really well for
a receiving corps that just needs something.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
Of the building.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
And I don't mean interrupt. The bills are certainly in
line with your thinking. The way that they're tree him
in camp, they're trying to elevate him into a star
type receiver.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Yeah, and that's how it should be.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
He was your first pick last year and he has
very high expectations. As much as he is a project,
he is also a player that in college, you know,
earned a certain pedigree for really impressive moments, and it
was just about stringing them together. And that seems to
be the point for a point of emphasis for the
Bills and their development. While yes, we know what he
can be, we got to.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Make it consistent.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
So consistency is something we're all hoping for, especially in
the receiving corps again, that just needs that defining player.
I am still very excited about some of their other pieces.
I know shakiras had his moments, and Samuel and Moore
haven't really had an opportunity to do too much because
of these injuries they're starting out with, but a little
more on the Josh Palmer front, Alex just while we

(20:51):
have about ten minutes left.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
I mean, this is their big ticket receiver.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
They gotten free agency in the sense that they paid
the most money for him, and this is another connection
that can really benefit this offense. Obviously, if Josh Allen
and him are able to get on the same page
and build chemistry. The injury today sidelines him a little bit,
hopefully not for long. But what have you seen from
that connection? Has it developed in a way that fans
could be hopeful that they're going to see this as

(21:18):
a consistent factor throughout the year.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
Do you think there's still a lot of work to
be done for the two.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
I do still think there's a lot of work to
be done for the two. I think it's slowly developing, though.
I think before he went out with this injury, we
were seeing that rapport starting to be built.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
It's just going to take a little while with these two.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
It's been proven throughout Josh Allen's career it takes a
little while for new receivers to come in here and
kind of fit in with his.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Skill set and his play style, which is very unique
and has helped him win the MVP Award. So it's not.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
About Allen kind of fitting in with Josh Palmer. It's
about Josh Palmer fitting in with Josh Allen, and I
think over time it will come.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
But another element that makes it.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
A little bit more difficult for a player like Palmer
than a player like more More is gonna work a
lot more near the line of scrimmage, the short type
of maybe timing routes or.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Just quick breakers that get.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
You open in a phone booth. As I've said with
more on episodes of My show. But with Palmer, you're
gonna work him more in the intermediate deep game, and
that's why they brought him in. That element of the
passing game was lacking last season. Despite josh Allen putting
up MVP numbers, everybody EA's mentality really working out, that
down the field passing game was not there. And the

(22:35):
two players I think they're are going to factor into
that the most this year, Joshua Palmer and Dalton Kincaid.
They tried it with Kinkaid last year. He had the
highest uncatchable ball rate of any tight end in the league,
so it just didn't seem to connect between him and
josh Allen. Injuries certainly played a role, but another year
under their belt together, I think we've seen that connection develop,

(22:59):
and if Joshua can fit in, I think they're down
the field passing game can be much improved.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
So the potential is there.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
I think it's just going to take some time and
it might not start out of the gate in the
regular season red hot, so be patient. I think they're
going to be patient with it, and by mid season
I think you might see this connection really get into
top four.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Josh Palmer's potential ascension and the Bills offense, to me,
is something that I could see shaping out like a
John Brown ascension in twenty nineteen. Maybe not the exact
same thing, but similar career trajectory as far as productivity goes.
And what you've seen and what it turned into when
they got to play with Josh Allen and get used
in a very specific role. I think Josh Palmer has

(23:44):
a lot of gravity in his role too, because if
that downfield connection does develop, I think it does open
doors for Keon Coleman and for Dalton Kincaid, whether it
is as opposite field field stretchers in a limited role
where maybe they're wind up out wide or even just
across the field and getting opportunity and just creating more
threats in a vertical passing offense. And that's something that
I am excited to see, not when I expected to

(24:06):
be flourished yet. I know it's training camp and Palmer
has never played with Josh Allen, so that's going to
take time. But reassuring to hear that there have been
moments for them and that as long as Palmer can
stay healthy, they'll continue to develop that connection and now,
I just want to talk about red and blue practice, man,
because that's that's the exciting time or to park in
the last time ever at the current stadium they're going

(24:28):
to be doing this. I mean, what are you mainly
looking out for at this at this event? Are you
you know, is there anything offensively defensively or an individual
player or a group of players that you're just most
excited to see or feel like need to have a
good practice in your rise, Like what is the main
point of emphasis for you in that moment?

Speaker 4 (24:49):
One under the radar thing before my main focus that
I'll get to is the middle linebacker battle in terms
of where it's at right now with Terrell Bernard and
Dorian Williams both missing time. You've seen Balen Spector out there,
You've seen Joe Andresen out there, and I think both
of those players have something to prove if they're a
going to lock down a roster spot and be be

(25:13):
considered potential contributors for this defense. So that's something under
the raider I'm looking at as Spector has kind of
been in there with the first team first and foremost,
but Andresen has filtered in as well. They've both taken
their turns making plays. I think Andreas in a little
bit more impressive in coverage spector a little bit more
impressive in run defense.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
So yeah, I think that's something that I'm looking at.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
And then the other thing, obviously we already touched on
it in depth.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
The trenches.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
I think this is an opportunity for some of these
guys inside to really establish themselves. And day Kwon Jones
got a veteran arrest day. I'm interested to see if
they throw him back out there tomorrow. I'm sure they
will what he's got left in the tank. He's kind
of the least talked about guy on the Bills defensive line,

(26:04):
and he's going to be a starter for them. I
know that they enjoy their rotation, but Daikwon Jones is
going to be out there quite often, especially early in
the season, and he's done a nice job tutoring some
of these younger guys. I saw him spending quite a
bit of time with Dion Walker at Thursday's practice when
he was off to the side as a veteran rustde

(26:25):
who's kind of like a coach during that circumstance, but
interested to see the guys in the trenches and another
guy beyond Jones, Larry ugn Joby, who is kind of
an enigma somebody who comes in here. He's going to
miss the first six games and I think they only
signed him for the one year, so you're not sure
how much he's going to be utilized when he gets back.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
But he's a rock solid guy.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
And I think he could be a potential contributor come
week seven when he returns. So a lot of depth
on that D line to tune in and watch, and
who knows, maybe the pecking order could shift a little
bit based on performances at that screen image and down
the road here as we approach the first preseason game.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
And I really want to know how much those suspensions
weigh in their mind when it comes to how they're
going to organize the death chart, like you've been allude
to with the shakeup, because I mean, you can't deny
the fact that you're missing these guys for six games
and that your rookies are going to get ample time.
So does that determine how you want to rotate these
guys when it comes to who's getting more of the

(27:24):
first team rep share? Does that change anything for you?
Do you feel like there's more value in letting Walker
and TJ. Sanders continue to get reps with the Ones
in an increasing way. Maybe not as much for the
edge rushers with Hoyt because Hoyt is here for multiple years,
but for Ogan Jobi, who is basically a half season
rental at that point, or at least like a majority
season rental. That is something I'm interested to watch too.

(27:45):
The trench battles, for sure, and the middle linebacker shakeup.
We all know that role goes to Bernard, but you
know what does it look like behind him, because the
back end of the linebacker chart there could be shake
up there too. I mean, you got Shaq Thompson, a
veteran presence that knows McDermott Baile inspector, a player that
doesn't really stay healthy, and you wonder about what his
long term future looks like in the league, whether that's
with Buffalo for another year or if.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
They end up moving on.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
I think the thing I'm really looking forward to, I'll
start with one specific trench player. I want to see
what Dwayne Carter continues to look like in training camp
now that they've devoted that one tech slash nose tackle
role to him. I want to see if he actually
makes any progress there because as someone who has been
a long, long, vocal fan of his and the draft
pick in general, I want to see positive steps for

(28:30):
him and I hope it can pan out. Obviously, I
haven't really heard crazy amounts right now, so I don't
know if it's been for better or for worse. But
I would like to see flashes and hope that that
can sustain into the regular season where his number will
be called upon. But I want to wrap it up
with just the secondary, I mean really the back end
of the secondary, because with Harriston's injury, I think as
long as he could stay healthy, knock On Wood Trey

(28:50):
White is your corner back to opposite of Christian Benford.
But guys like Jordan Hancock, guys like Derek Forest, and
then some of the forgotten faces, guys like Brandon Codrington
and Daikwon Hardy.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
What is their role and what do you do with
them at the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
I mean, Dayquon Hardy had very positive flashes in the
preseason last year. Will he flash again and will that
justify a roster spot And maybe in the wake of
the six game suspensions, get in temporary action to prove
he could sustain as a starter or as a rotational piece.
I should say, what does it look like with some
of these back end secondary young players, and what does
the future look like for cam Lewis. I mean, is

(29:26):
Jordan Hancock going to beat him out for that utility
man role?

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Does Jordan Hancock maybe get emphasized as a safety backup?

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I mean, That's really where all my questions lie, and
I'm very interested to see, not just at this specific event,
but for the rest of camp what that looks like
and how that shakes out. And Alex say forty nine
right now, I know he said a fifty. Any final
closing thoughts before we sign off for the evening.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
I think Joey Botha is really an X factor for
this team. What he's able to deliver on a game
to game basis and how healthy he's able to stay
will really tell the story for this pass rush. I'm
excited about all those names that we talked about. Greg
Russo at the forefront, got the young guy, Landon Jackson,
Javon Solomon, Michael Hoyt mixing in there. You bring back
aj Epineza. But if Joey Bosa can beat Joey Bosa

(30:16):
like Von Miller was von Miller before his injury. But
if he can last throughout the course of a seventeen
game season or anywhere close to that and be ready
for the postseason, boy, this defense could be dangerous and
he could really open doors for other players along that
defensive line, namely At Oliver. And I think at Oliver

(30:37):
is their top interior pass rushers still and there's still a.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Star in there and at Oliver.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
It kind of got extinguished last year at times, but
we saw shades of the old out of Oliver at
the end of last season, and I'm excited to see
what he has to offer. With Greg Russo on one side,
Joey Boza on the other, him in the middle, that
could be a really, really impressive starting trio for this
Bill's defense. And I'm just impressed with the depth overall.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
I am too, and I'm hoping that just to put
a bow on it, Ryan Nielsen, who I've talked about
many times on this show, unlocks it all because that's
the difference. To me. I think they're plenty of talented
up front. I think the rookies that they drafted have
plenty of power, plenty of juice to their game. Can
you do enough creatively to be able to unlock the
potential of this front with a guy like Joey Boza

(31:27):
to compliment that, Because if you can, I think you're
not just looking at a good deal line. I think
you're looking at one of the best front units in
the league and one that could be that difference maker
when you get to the playoffs, or knock on wood,
if you get to the playoffs and play a team
like Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
But Alex, listen with the Dolphins doing gymnastics, the Patriots
kind of in transition, and the Jets jetsing if the
Bills don't make the playoffs, pigs will fly.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
I certainly, I'm I'm superstitious, I'm jaded. Listen, man, I
knock on wood for everything I can care. But I
love the confidence, and I'm very excited for the team,
and I'm very excited for the coming weeks. Just hoping
for good health and that we can have a sustained
healthy roster when the season starts. But Alex, again, I
appreciate you immensely and your time. You are an awesome guest.
