Speaker 1 (00:25):
Virtual Hi, and thanks for tuning in today. Today is
Today is Thursday, Thursday October the thirty first of twenty

(00:49):
twenty four. Thanks for tuning in. My name is doctor
k Rich. I am Navy veteran and I am grateful
and thankful to be tuning into you all today. I
pray that you all have had a blessed and wonderful
week so far, that the remainder of this week will
continue to be blessed for you as well. Rather you

(01:12):
are a veteran, whether you are active duty, if you're
serving Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Coast Guard, National Guard,
first responder, thank you. A family member of someone who
is serving, thank you as well. We thank you for
your loved ones that are serving, because without their service,
where would we be today as a nation. And so

(01:35):
we want to just thank you, and most importantly, we
want to just thank our heavenly Father God who has
given us the freedoms, because without God, we are nothing,
and that's so important for us to keep in mind.
And also knowing that Jesus is the captain of our ship.

(01:56):
He is our commanding officer, and therefore as we serve others,
we are serving him. And so thank the Lord for
the sacrifice that he made on the cross so that
we may have life and have it more abundantly. We
have a lot to talk about today, and we're going

(02:17):
to be going to the Book of Daniel and then
we're gonna be talking about VR and E benefits and
I will go further into that with you later on.
But before we get started today, let us open up
with a word of prayer, because we know that prayer
is our best weapon against the enemy. And as any

(02:38):
soldier know of, you go into battle without having your
proper attire, without having your proper weapons, you will be defeated. However,
we know that God did not leave us defenseless. He
gave us the power of prayer. And people a lot
of times people discount prayer, but prayer is powerful. It

(03:01):
makes the enemy flee, It helps us to be able
to war against the enemy, and the spirit that overflows
into the natural. And so we just thank God this
morning for the power of prayer. And speaking of prayer,
let us open up with a word of prayer. Dear
Heavenly Father God, we just thank you God for allowing

(03:23):
us to come before your presence this morning. We thank
you Lord for the ability to be able to talk
to you, to be able to communicate with you, our
heavenly Father. We thank you, Lord for all that you
are doing in the lives of your soldiers today. Lord,
those that aren't active duty, those that have hung up
the uniform, that are veterans. Right now, Lord, just thank you. Lord.

(03:47):
We thank you for the opportunity to still serve you. Lord.
And we ask Lord that this morning, Lord, that you
will forgive us for our sins. We ask that you
will cleanse us from all unright business. Lord. Lord, we
ask Lord that you will meet every veteran right now,
in the name of Jesus. Wherever the veterans are throughout

(04:09):
the world, Lord, we ask that you will meet their
needs in the name of Jesus. Lord, we know that
no weapon formed against us will prosper, and so Lord,
we ask right now, Lord, that you will meet the
needs of those Lord, who are going through various issues,
those that may be depressed. Right now, we ask Lord

(04:29):
that you will live the spirit of depression away from them. Lord.
We ask the Lord, those that are going through suicidal thoughts, Lord,
that you will help them to know that you are
a God of life who loves them. Lord. Lord, we
ask right now that those who are feeling isolated in
a lone Lord, that they will know that you are

(04:50):
there and you are always near the broken hearted. Lord,
we ask right now in the name of Jesus, Lord,
that you will be with those that are serving active
du that that may be apart from their loved ones. Lord,
that they know that you are still with them wherever
they go. Lord, we ask or that you will be
with the families right now, Lord, they are dealing with separation. Lord,

(05:13):
we asked r that you will be with them, guide
them and deliver the Lord. We ask right now, Lord
that whatever situation that you're people in, Lord, that you
will meet that need in accordance with your will. And
we ask all these things and your son's name Jesus,
you're sure how much you thank God? Amen? Amen? Amen, Amen.

(05:36):
We just thank the Lord today for all that he
has done and all that he is doing in the
lives of his people today. Amen. Right. We are today
going to be going to the Book of Daniel, the
Book of Daniel, chapter one, and we're focused on the education.

(06:02):
You know, the Bible says to study to show ourselves approved,
and it is important for us to be wise as
to the times we're living in today and also the
game the knowledge that God would have for us today.
And so today I want to go to Daniel chapter

(06:24):
the Book of Daniel chapter one, and starting with verse one,
as we read about the education and the training that
Daniel and his friends had to get. And then Daniel
chapter one, it reads that in the third year of

(06:45):
the reign of Jehoicim, King of Judah, Nevakannezzar, king of Bablon,
came to Jerusalem and besieged it, and the Lord delivered Jehoicim,
King of Judah into his hand along with some of
the articles from the Temple of God. These he carried
off to the temple of His God in Babylonia and

(07:07):
put in the treasure house of His God. And I
just want to stop right there. So we know that
Judah had a history of being defiant Israel and Judah,
and so God allowed them to be taken into captivity.
There were actually ofly two sieges upon Babylon. The second
one was when they were when it was actually destroyed,

(07:29):
for as the temple in Jerusalem as well as the
city itself. So but during this time Daniel and his
friends have been taken into captivity, and God allowed King
Nebukanezar to take things out of the temple, and he

(07:49):
wound up putting it into the treasure house of his
foreign gods. But then in verse three, it says, then
the king ordered Aspinas, chief of his court officials, to
bring into the King's service some of Israel's some of
the Israelites from the royal family and nobility, young men

(08:09):
without any physical defect, handsome, shown aftitude for every kind
of learning, wealth informed, quick to understand, and qualify to
serve in the King's palace. He was to teach them
the language and literature of the Babylonians. The king assigned
them a daily amount of food and wine from the

(08:31):
King's table. They were to be trained for three years,
and after that they were to enter the King's service.
So you have a babylon here, King Nebukanezar, he had
his chief to in order to He wanted him to
select these men that were shown where they were able

(08:53):
to learn. It was important for them to be able
to learn the things about Babel, learned their history, learn
the language, learn the literature. And so they had to
be knowledgeable in these areas and other for them to
be trained for or or be ready to enter the

(09:14):
king's service. One thing that is important to understand is education.
You know, there used to be saying with the NAACP
back in the day that a mind is a terrible
thing to waste, and so therefore we want to always
be learning, always be students, especially of the word of God.

(09:37):
So we see here that the king wanted the best
of the best. He wanted them to be able to learn.
Sometimes when the nations captured other nations, they wanted the
people to be able to They didn't just always slaughter them.
They wanted the best of those who could actually learn

(09:58):
and be able to fill certain positions in the kingdom
for them to be able to learn. So we when
we were when we start off in school, when we're younger,
we often you know, most people go to preschool and
you go to kindergarten, and it's important for us to

(10:19):
to help kids to gain education so that they will
be well rounded individuals. It's important for us to know history.
A lot of things that's even going on right now
in the world. If you know the history of it,
then you can understand why it's happening. Now, if you
don't know the history of the uss Are, for example,

(10:40):
then you will know you wouldn't understand what's going on
with Ukraine and what's going on with Russia, and and
so it's important for us to understand history. Even as
an adult. If you have forgotten some things, it's important
to go back and study those things so that you
wouldn't know what's taking place in today's time, especially when

(11:01):
it comes to the word of God. So you had
Daniel and his friends. They had to be trained for
three years in order to enter the king's service. Now,
in verse six, it says among them were chosen some
of some from Judah, Daniel, Hannah and Aaya, Michelle and Azariah.
The chief official gave them new names. To Daniel. He

(11:24):
gave Belle to Chazar, to Handanayah Shadrack, to Michelle Mee Shaq,
and to Azariah a Bendigo. But Daniel resolved not to
defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he
asked the chief officials for permission not to defile himself
this way. Now, God calls the official to show favor

(11:48):
and compassion to Daniel. But the official told Daniel, I
am afraid, my lord, the king who has assigned you
food and drink, why should he see you looking worse
than the other young men your age. The King would
then have my head because of you, And so let
me stop right here. So you have that Daniel had
asked not to defile himself by the King's food. You

(12:10):
imagine they served, maybe served pork that was considered unclean.
They may have had wine and other things that came
from the King's table, But Daniel did not want to.
Even though he was in exile, he still obeyed the Lord.
He still wanted to eat according to the levitical laws.

(12:32):
He did not want to defile himself by even touching
things that was considered unclean. So Daniel, regardless of where
he was, he wanted to still stand for the Lord.
So in verse eleven, Daniel then said to the guard,
whom the chief official has had a pointed over Daniel

(12:54):
had a namichell and Azi Riah, please test your servants
for ten days, give us nothing but vegetables to eat
and water to drink. They compare our appearance with that
of the young men who eat the royal food, and
treat your service in accordance with what you see. So
he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

(13:18):
At the end of the ten days, let me go
back here. At the end of the ten days, they
looked healthier and better nourish than any of the young
men who ate the royal food. So the guard took
away their choice food and the wine they were to
drink and gave them vegetables instead. And let's stop right there.

(13:40):
So these young men they stood for God. They were bowld,
even though they were up under new leadership, even though
they were up under a foreign government, even though they
had different those that were commanding their lives at that time,
they still for God. And in verse seventeen, to these

(14:04):
four men, God gave them knowledge and understanding of all
kinds of literature and learning. And David, I'm sorry, Daniel
could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. So who
did they get their knowledge from God? Even though they
had book knowledge, they had God's knowledge and understanding. He

(14:27):
gave them the ability to be able to comprehend and
understand all kinds of literature and learning. Isn't it something
that when you are you might be going to school
right now, you might be saying hi in the world.
Am I going to pass? How am I going to
understand all this information? How am I going to write

(14:47):
all these papers? And guess what God would give you
that ability? We know that in the Bible, God gave
wisdom to Solomon. Okay, So God gives us the ability
to acquire knowledge, the to gain wisdom to know what
to do with that knowledge. And He's the one that
give us understanding and to the matters of anything that

(15:08):
he would have you to study. So in verse eighteen,
at the end of the time set by the king
to bring them to service, the chief official presented them
to neverkenazar The king talked with them and found none
equal to Daniel, Hannanayah, Michel and Azariah. So they entered

(15:31):
the king's service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding
about what the king questioned them, he found them ten
times better than all the musicians and enchanters in the
whole kingdom. And Daniel remained there until the first year
of King Cyrus. So we see here that God is

(15:55):
a god that will enable you to thrive even in captivity.
He allowed me Shad shareck d Been to go in
Daniel to be able to understand what they needed to
have to understand in order to thrive in babbling. And
right now we're dealing with a lot of issues in

(16:16):
the United States. But whatever it is, if you're going
to school right now, ask the Lord for wisdom, ask
the Law for knowledge, ask the Law for understanding. If
you're taking advantage of.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Some of your gi rather it's GI bill or other
veteran benefits, our school educational benefits, do your best to
learn all that you can, and most importantly, ask the
Lord who gives us the wisdom, who gives us the knowledge,

(16:47):
who gives us the understanding to know all things in accordance.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
With His will. Because guess what you might be thinking,
why I'm taking math? But then God may have something
else for you to do with that math that you're taking.
So don't look at it as just a subject. Look
at it as something that God would use you for
in order to uh promote his kingdom and to bring

(17:15):
others to him. All right, we're going to take a
quick break and we'll be back in just a moment.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Come on, Oh was not over. Put you up and
next mine, Put you up.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
And next mine. I won't shoot them all down the line.
The line I shot and sudget won't.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I shot just for fun, just fun. Put you up
and next mine, Put you up next. Mile'll shoot them
all down the line.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
I'll shoot. Oh man, come was not all? It was
not all?

Speaker 3 (18:07):
So put your uping next to me, Put you up
in next to mine, and we'll shoot the mother on the.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
Line, and we'll shoot them mother down the line.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I shot of sergeitude, I shot of surgitude.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Did that one touch for you? Did that one trust
for you? Put your upping next to me, Put you
up me, next spile and we'll shoot the mother out.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Of the line, and we'll shoot the mother out of
the line. I shot of erteent three. I shot did
that well just for me? For me to put your
uping next.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
To mine, Put you up and next smile and we'll
shoot them all on the line, and we'll shoot the
mother out of the line. Come on, oh man, come on,
was not all? That was not all? So put your
weapon next me, put you up and next smile.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Hand was.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
And that is a cadence by Jonathan Michael Fleming. And
you can find him on YouTube and spotify. All right,
so we're gonna talk about today when it comes to
veteran benefits. About the v r n E v r
in E. And if you've never heard of it, it's
called Veteran Readiness and Employment Veteran Readiness and Employment and

(19:37):
so you may have formerly known as as the Vocational
Rehabilitation and Employment Services, and this is the help veterans
with job training, education, employment, accommodation, resume development, and job
seeking skills for as coaching. Other services can be provided

(19:59):
to assist veterans and service members and starting their own business.
Are independent living services for those who are severely disabled
and those that are unable to work in traditional employment.
And so this is something that a program that helps

(20:20):
those again that if you're trying to re enter the
workforce or you're needing certain skills, certain education that you
may not otherwise have. Well, this particular program is again
it's veteran I'm sorry, Veteran Readiness and Employment is called
v r n E v r N E. You can

(20:44):
actually apply online or apply go to a Veteran service
officer and they can help you to apply for those
particular benefits. Now, if you have a service connected disability
that lends it's your ability to work or prevents you
from working in this particular program can help. It's also

(21:05):
known as Chapter thirty one, all right, So it helps
you explore employment options, It address education or training needs,
and in some cases, your family members may also qualify
for certain benefits. And so we're going to dive in
a little bit with this. One thing again it helps

(21:28):
you for is the Reemployment Track, So if you are
a veteran with service connected with a service connected disability,
the Reemployment Track can help you return to your former
job and support your employer in meeting your needs. Another
thing is it has. Another thing that it does is

(21:49):
help It has a Rapid access to Employment Track, So
if you want to find a job or career that
uses your existing skill set, a Rapid access to Employment
track can help you with your job search. Another thing
is Self Employment Track. If you are a service member
or a veteran with a service connected disability and employment barrier,

(22:14):
the Self Employment Track can help you start your own business.
Another thing it does is offer employment through Long Term
Services Track, So if you have a service connected disability
and employment barrier, the VR can help you get the
education and training that you need to find work in

(22:36):
a different field. One more thing is Independent Living Track.
If you can't return to work right away, you may
qualify for services that can help you live as independent
as possible. So whate o the eligibility requirements. Well, Well,
for the eligibility requirements, you first have to have an

(23:01):
honorable discharge, so you didn't receive a dishonorable discharge, and
you have a service connected disability with at least ten percent.
So you have to have had an honorable discharge and
at least a ten percent rating from disability. So when

(23:21):
they received your vr ANDY application, they will schedule you
for an initial interview with a vocational rehabilitation counselor and
then they will determined if you are entitled to receive
the vr INNE benefits. Now, if you were discharged from
active duty before January first, twenty thirteen, your basic period

(23:44):
of eligibility in twelve years from one of these dates
that I'm going to go into. So, if you were
discharged from active duty before twenty January first, twenty, your
basic period of eligibility ends twelve years from one of

(24:05):
these dates, whichever comes later. So the date you receive
notice of your data separation from active duty or the
date you receive your first VA service connected Disability rating.
That's important to keep up with. Pay attention to the dates.

(24:25):
The dates matter, so the basic period of eligibility may
be extended. If a VRC finds that you have a
serious employment handicap, how then that sEH means your service
connected disability significantly limits your ability to prepare, for, obtain,
and maintain suitable employment. A job that doesn't make you

(24:48):
your disability worse is stable and matches your abilities, aptitudes,
and interests. Now, if you are still on active duty,
you may ask, am I eligible for the Veteran Readiness
and Employment? You may be eligible for the VR and
E services if you're a service member and you meet
at least one of these requirements. The first is you

(25:11):
have to have a twenty percent or higher pre charge
disability and will soon be leaving a member of the military,
or you are waiting to be discharged because of a
severe illness or injury that occurred while you were on
active duty. So this is something that you're definitely gonna

(25:34):
want to look into and remember the dates. Remember the
dates because these dates are very important. So you may ask, well,
how do I apply and how do I apply? Well,
the first way you can apply is by doing it online. Okay,

(25:54):
you can go online to apply for VR and E benefits.
If you go to VA dot gov and type in
v r N E, you will find all the information
that I just gave you and the ability to day
the file online. Your second option is going by mail,
so you can apply by mail. You can fill out

(26:15):
an application for the v r N E benefits. You
need the form twenty eight DASH nineteen hundred, the VA
Form twenty eight da'sh nineteen hundred, and that's where you
can You can download the form online if you prefer
to do it that way, and you can mail it
to the Department of Veteran Affairs. The v r N

(26:38):
E N takes Center PO box five to two one zero, Jamesville.
That's j that's j A N E s v I
L L E, Wisconsin. The ZIP code is five three
five four seven DASH five to two one zero, and

(26:59):
again you can this information online on the VA dott
gov website. Your third option is to do it in person.
You can go to a VA regional office and have
the VA employee help you there and option for with
the help of a trained professional so you can work
with an accredited attorney a claims agent or a VSO

(27:22):
otherwise known as Veteran service officer or Veteran Service Organization
representative to help you apply for the v R and
E benefits, and they will you know when you applied.
Then I don't know how long it takes for them
to let you know anything. As always, you know with

(27:43):
the v R and E is hurry up and wait.
I mean with the veterans anything with veterans actually well
veteran services, it's hurry up and wait. So, but you
can possibly find out how long it will take. So
what happens after you apply, Well, after you apply, they'll

(28:03):
schedule for a meeting with a v r C or
vocational rehabilitations counselor to find out if you have an
employment employment handicap and if you're eligible for v R
E benefits. You have an employee, you have an employment
handicap if your service connect the disability limits your ability

(28:25):
to prepare, for, obtain, and maintain suitable employment. A job
that doesn't make your ability worse, is stable and matches
your abilities, aptitudes, and interests.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
UH.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
After we or after they make an ente an entitlement decision,
you and your counselor will work together to develop a
rehabilitation plan. This plan outlines the rehabilitation and other services
that v R n E will provide. And you know
what this Another thing that a lot of veterans do

(29:00):
not know is once you get this VR and E,
if you are not at one hundred percent where you
are able to get dental, they do have some options
for us the dental from my understanding on this, so
this is something that you may want to look into.

(29:23):
You also will get a stipend every month, depending upon
I think it's based upon also the number of dependents
you may have, if I'm correct, But the stipend starts
off at seven hundred plus dollars. I don't have the
exact amount, but the seven hundred plus dollars and above,
so I think they go off of also your number

(29:45):
of dependents, as they do with the other disability compensation
for those that are I believe thirty percent and above.
This is not the stipend is not for you to
use for paying the tuition because the v the v
R n E does does that. So whereas you normally

(30:11):
would have had maybe have some kind of other financial
ability to pay for the trade school or college or
whatever the case may be. The v R E takes
care of that and then that stipend is for you
to use. They will also take care of books. They

(30:31):
will if you're a laptop or other accommodations. Uh, they
also offer that as well. So again you can go
on v A dot gov get more information with regards
to the v R E program. Some some active duty
or using their their their educational benefits while they're serving,

(30:57):
and then they come out and they will use the
GI bill and use the v R and E. Some
use the VR and E first and then go into
the GI BIL. Some use the GI billing then going
to the b R and E first or whatever educational
program that they have. So this is something that you
want to talk to with a Veteran Service officer to

(31:18):
see what it is the best route for you to
take if you qualify, or even to see if you
qualify for this program and let them help you to
outline that educational course or the educational plan so that
you'll know which one you need to use first. Again,

(31:39):
there's time limits on a lot of these, but you
can talk to your Veteran Service officer at your local
VA regional office in order to get the information that
you need to in order to devise a plan for
your educational needs. All right, we are bothering here. I

(32:01):
pray to today's podcast has been a blessing to you
and has been informative to you. And guess what. Know
that God loves you, God cares for you, and He
is our commanding or he's our commanding officer in this
field we call life. And until next time, this is

(32:24):
doctor k Rich, your Navy veteran. God bless
