Here to serve you.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Now here is your host, doctor k l Rich.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Hi, and thanks for tuning in today. This is doctor
ko Rich and I am your Navy veteran and this
is Veterans in Christ's podcast where we're giving a word
to veterans' active duty military service person now, oh they're
family members, first responders. We want to just thank you
(01:04):
for tuning in today for this particular podcast. I pray
that it is a blessing to you. And if you
have never joined in with us before and this is
your first time, thanks again for tuning in. And if
you are what I would call a repeat offender, thank
you for tuning in. I would like to ask you
(01:25):
to share this podcast with other active duty service members, veterans,
first responders. We want to just thank you for those
who are surfing in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines,
the Airspace, which is our newest branch, our Air Force,
which is a branch other air Force, the Airspace. And
(01:48):
then we also want to thank those who are on
our Coastguard, the National Guard. We want to also acknowledge
our firefighters, our paramedics, those that are serving on the
frontlines as our police officer sheriff's office. Well, we want
to just thank you as well. And those that are
(02:08):
family members of those who have served, thank you because
you are also serving as your loved one is serving
rather on sure duty are abroad. There is so much
that's taken place in the world today that we are
living in and as I always open up with this
(02:30):
particular podcast, we need to have a being a posture
of prayer because prayer is our best weapon against the enemy,
and there are a lot of things that's taking place
right now and the Body of Christ, if you are
a veteran in Christ, guess what we need to be
(02:51):
praying for those that are on active duty because there's
a lot of things that's taking place right now. Where
we are rolling towards World War three, and I know
a lot of people that want to talk about that,
but we're seeing things take place right now. Troops are
being deployed, UH missiles are going off. Russia send a
(03:16):
ballistic missile to Ukraine in response to uh them getting
Ukraine getting the red light or the green light should
I say the green light from Biden in order to
strike the heart of Russia. It's it's a lot that's
going on right now, and we need to keep our
active duty military and our reservists in prayer because things
(03:39):
are gonna be increasingly getting more more. It's gonna it's
gonna it's gonna fireball, and so we want to just
uh keep everyone in prayer and our veterans as well.
So let let's open up with the word of prayer.
You're helping Father God. We just thank you God for
allowing us to come into your presence this morning. Lord.
(04:00):
We thank you Lord that wherever we are, rather we're
in one continent or another, that we can always reach
out to you in prayer. Lord, we ask Lord right
now that you will forgive us for all our sins.
We ask that you would cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Lord, we ask right now, Lord, that you would be
with those Lord who are serving on active duty right
now in the name of Jesus. Lord, we know that
in Matthews twenty four that you said that there were
gonna be wars and rumors of wars, nation against nation,
kingdom against kingdom. Lord, and so Lord, we pray Lord
that you would be with those Lord who are in
(04:40):
you right now serving Lord, and that they even though
wherever they're serving, that you will have a hedge of
protection around them, Lord, as they are going and obeying
the different orders that they have received. Lord, we pray
Lord that those who have not received you, that they
will turn their hearts to you before it is too late. Lord,
(05:02):
we ask Lord that you would keep trying to get
their attention. Lord, in the name of Jesus, because you
are a gracious God, you are a mercyful God, you
are loving God, you are caring God, and you wish
for no one to be destroyed Lord without knowing you, Lord,
because in the end what matters is do we know you?
(05:23):
And so Lord, we ask right now in the name
of Jesus, that you would be with every soldier right
now and their families. In the name of Jesus. Lord,
we pray Lord that you will be with the veterans
right now, Lord, those that have warned the uniform. Lord.
And even though we may no longer word the uniform, Lord,
(05:44):
we ask right now, in the name of Jesus, Lord,
that you would help those that are going through various
situations PTSD, depression, anxiety, very different aches and pains and diagnos. Lord,
we ask Lord that you will be with every veteran
right now. In the name of Jesus' Lord, we pray
(06:09):
for our young people right now. Lord. We pray for
those that may be getting ready to enter the military. Lord,
we ask that you will cover them, Lord, because many
don't even know, they don't really understand the fullness of
what it even means to serve, because they're so young. Lord,
and so Lord, we ask right now that you will
cover the young people right now. In the name of
(06:33):
Jesus' Lord, we pray for that person's son, pray for
that person's daughter, Pray for that person's husband, spouse, niece, nephew. Lord,
we ask Lord that you will cover them today. Lord,
with your blood, we pray all these things.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
We know that you hear our prayers, and that you
answer our prayers in accordance with your will. And we
ask all these things in your son's name. Jesus, you're
sure Hammershick, Thank God. Amen, Amen, Amen. I pray that
you all are being blessed today. And if you have
(07:10):
woken up, if you have awakened today, you are already
blessed because God started you on your way. Today we're
gonna be talking about veteran death benefit, veteran death benefits,
veteran death benefits. And but before we go into that,
(07:30):
I want to go to the word of God. And
Jesus said, greater love, have a mandiness, and a man
that will lay down his life for a friend. And
when you signed on the dotted line, you know when
we signed, we I know when I was at the
(07:51):
age when I was I actually turned nineteen when I
was in boot camp. I had my nineteenth birthday like
two days I think after I entered the service. And
so you at that age, you really don't have a
full at least I didn't. I didn't have a full
understanding of what all that meant. I just knew I
(08:13):
was joining the military. They told me, you know, I
would have benefits and this and that and all that,
But I really it didn't you know, really I didn't
have a full understanding of signing the dotted line meant
that I could actually go to war, you know. I
mean they told you that, but you you just really
(08:34):
didn't have that full understanding that you would actually be
laying down your life. But the thing is, some some
people did during the Vietnam era, a lot of uh
you know, people that were drafted. Some had to report
to duty without them even wanting to go. Can you
(08:56):
imagine that you are told I have to go and
possibly die and then you didn't even sign up for it.
But guess what, there's someone who did do that, and
that's Jesus. Jesus came as a baby so that we
(09:18):
could have life and have it more abundantly. He came
so that we wouldn't be enslaved to sin, that we
would not be on our way to a devil's hell,
because that's exactly where we were headed, to a devil's health.
And we know that sin separates us from God. But
Jesus came to put things back in order. And I
(09:43):
want to just skip to Matthew's chapter twenty seven, because
we know in Matthew chapter one, it talks about, you know,
the Begats, and then it goes into Jesus' you know,
the angel Gabriel going to Mary and telling her that
she was going to be the mother or the son
of God and real soon many people around the world
(10:05):
will be celebrating Christmas. But I want to go and
skip to Matthews chapter twenty seven, and Jesus he knew
that he had been sent here for a mission, and
that mission was to die. Can you imagine that you
(10:26):
are going somewhere and some of you can. You may
have been drafted when you were in Vietnam, some of
you may have served in World War Two. I don't
know who my whole listening audience is, but you may
have had family members who were able to tell you
stories about them being drafted or rather volunteering. They signed
(10:51):
up for service knowing that, oh, it wasn't for me
to just go and I'm going to get my college
paid for and have free room and board and all
of these things. No, they were signing up. Imagine signing
up saying that I know that my chances of coming
back are slim to none, and Jesus. He signed up
(11:15):
for this saying that I know that I'm going to die.
There's no if ants or butts about it. I know
that I'm going to die, but I love them so
much that I am willing to give my life. And
so Jesus ended up before the governor, Pilot. And just
(11:42):
the week before you had those that were laying palm
trees palm branches before him, and Hosanna Hosanna's son of David,
Hosanna Hosanna, and everyone was singing his praise. But then
a week later he's before a punches Pilot. And so
(12:05):
I want to take you to Matthew chapter twenty seven,
in verse eleven, and it says, meanwhile Jesus stood before
the governor, and the governor asked him, or you the
Kingdom of jew of the Jews, you have said, so,
Jesus replied, when he was accused by the chief priests
(12:26):
and the elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilot asked him,
don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?
But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge,
to the amazement of the governor. And I just want
to stop right there. Because Jesus had been taken before
the priest, and they accused him because they were always
(12:50):
throughout jesus lifetime, throughout jesus ministry, they were always trying
to find something to charge him with, something to accuse
him of some kind of fault, They confided, some kind
of flaw, and if they couldn't find it, then they
would make it up. And that's exactly what they did,
because Jesus had not done no wrong. Jesus was not
a criminal. Jesus he didn't. They didn't understand that he
(13:15):
willingly gave his life, He willingly allowed himself to be
put into their hands just so they could carry out
the ultimate mission, which was for him to die. And
the thing is he was he was giving his life,
even for those that were trying to take it, even
(13:39):
for those that were plotting and planning to kill him.
He was given his life for even them. And so
in verse fifteen it says, now it was the governor's
custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by
the crowd. At that time they had done they had
(13:59):
a well known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. So
when the the crowd had gathered, Pilot asked them which
one do you want me to release to you, Jesus
Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah, for he
knew it was out of self interest that they had
handed Jesus over to him. And so I want to
(14:21):
just stop right there for a moment where it was
it was an annual thing that when there was some
a couple of prisoners, and they and the Jews would
have a choice to release one, to free one and
then the other one would be condemned. And so you
had these two Jesus is here, one of the son
of God, and then the other Jesus also named Barrabas,
(14:45):
and he was a thief, he was a liar, he
was a crook, you know, he was an actual criminal.
And so there was a choice. You had the I'm
gonna say.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
The real Christ, the real Jesus, and then the f Jesus,
the false Antichrist, and the sinse okay, And I want
to use these two examples because one was freely given
his life, and then the other was charged with possibly
taking life and taking things that did not belong to him,
(15:20):
doing uprisings and all those things.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
So in verse nineteen. While poll was sitting at the
judge seat, his wife sent him a message, don't have
anything to do with that innocent man, for I have
suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.
So Polla gets a message from his wife to let
him know that Jesus was innocent and he should wipe
his hands from this case. Excuse himself from this case
(15:46):
because Jesus was innocent. But we know, as the story
goes so. In verse twenty, it says, but the chief
priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for
Barabbas to have Jesus executed. Which of the two do
you want me to release to you? Asked the governor Barrabbits.
They answered, what shall I do then? With Jesus, who
(16:08):
is called the Messiah? Pilot asked. They all answered, crucify him?
Why what crime has he committed? Pilot asked Pilot. But
they shut it all the loud or crucify him. When
Pilot was getting nowhere, but instead an uproar was starting,
He took water and washed his hands in front of
(16:30):
the crowd. I am innocent of this man's blood, he said.
It is your responsibility all the people answered, his blood
is on us and on our children. Then he released
Barrabbits to them. But he had Jesus flogged and handed
him over to be crucified. And so here you have
(16:50):
this choice that the people could have chosen Jesus and
say release Jesus. Jesus had done no wrong. Jesus willingly
gave his life. See they didn't have the full comprehension
of full understanding that Jesus was giving his life for them,
the very ones who were saying crucify him, crucify him,
crucify him. Jesus could have easily had the angels from
(17:13):
heaven to come and deliver him out of their hands.
But he died for even the ones that were calling
for him to be crucified. He died for those that
were mocking him. He died for those who did not
love him. He died for those who hated him. He
died for us. See it wasn't just that Jesus was
(17:36):
dying at the hands of those who who were party
to his death during that time. Jesus was dying for
us in the future, who had not even existed during
that time. He was dying for all of humanity. He
woolingly gave his life. And so I'm gonna skip down
(18:01):
to verse twenty seven, and it says that then the
governor's soldiers took Jesus into the prettium and gathered the
whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and
put on a scarlet robe, put a scarlet robe on him,
and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set
it on his head. They put a staff in his
right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and
(18:24):
mocked him. Hell king of the Jews, they said. They
spit on him and took the staff and struck him
on the head again and again. After they mocked him,
they took off the robe and put on his own clothes.
Then they led him away to crucify him. Can you
imagine volunteering to have this type of treatment and abuse
(18:48):
done to you. Twisting crowns and actually putting it on
his head, and not just putting it on his head,
taking something and actually beating the crowns in his head,
those thorn, those thorn, the crown of thorns in his head,
those thorns going in his head. You can imagine the
blood that was spewing out and then they spit on him,
(19:11):
which was a sign of disgrace, and they knelt in
front of him and mocked him, held King of the Jews,
not even knowing that he is the king of kings
and he is the Lord of lords. And though they
were doing it in a mocking way, they were actually
kneeling before their creator. They mocked him, struck him. Even
(19:39):
in other verses that talked about in the Bible talks
about they poured his beard, and Jesus volunteered. He didn't
get drafted. He volunteered to go and do all of
this for us. In verse thirty two, as they were
(20:03):
going out, they met a man from Sirene named Simon,
and they forced him to carry it across. They came
to a place called Gothica, which means the place of skulls.
There they offered Jesus wine to drink mixed with we
mixed with God, but after tasting it, he refused to
drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up
(20:26):
his clothes by casting lots, and sitting down, they kept
watch over him. Above his head, they placed the rich
in charge against him. This is Jesus, the King of
the Jews. And we're gonna stop right there. Jesus willingly
gave his life. He wasn't forced into it, he wasn't
(20:50):
corsed into it. He willingly laid down his life so
that you and I can be saved. That's love when
someone can willingly give their lives for another person. In Jesus,
(21:12):
the Kingdom Kings, our Lord of Lords, God of the Universe,
gave his life for just little old me, little old youth.
But he loved us that much. We're going to take
a quick break and we'll be back in just a moment.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Out on the battlefield, covered in blood. Out on the battlefield,
covered isn't blood as a Nibo sunbird dying, isn't mind
it's Niebo sun bird dying in the mound.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
He handed me can closing in into the soldier felm.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Something they never.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
And that is Fallen Soldiers by Jeremy Michael Fleming. And
you can find him on YouTube and Spotify. Uh. He
has a lot of different cadences on their I love
listening to these different cadences and so again you can
check him out on YouTube. That's Jonathan Michael Fleming. All right,
(24:41):
so today we're going to talk about We're gonna talk
about veteran death benefits. Veteran death benefits. One thing that
will happen to us all at some point in life
is that we will if we live long enough, we
(25:03):
will pass this pass into the next life. The thing is,
you want to make sure that you're on the right.
Speaker 7 (25:11):
Side, okay, and so so I want to just go
over a few things with for veteran benefits.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
And if you are a surviving member of a veteran
you may be eligible for Pack Act benefits and everything.
So these are some things you might want to check out.
But I want to give you the basics for veteran
death benefits, which include there's a VA burial allowance for
(25:42):
burial and funeral costs, so you need to check that out.
V A plot or intermit interment allowance for the costs
of the plot which is the grave site v A
transportation reimbursement for the costs of transporting the veterans remains
to the rest in place VA Dependency and imdemnity compensation
(26:06):
for surviving spouses, children or parents of service members who
died in the line of duty or veterans who died
from a service related injury or illness, and their benefits
for is burial allowances and honors for eligible veterans and
their families. One thing that if you have served in
(26:28):
the military and you want, you know, your loved ones
to be able to honor your service at your at
your death, then you can have them to you know,
you can check all these things out early because sometimes
they What would happen is once that request is put in,
(26:51):
there would be a representative from whatever branch that you serve.
They would come do rather the honor guard, someone from
the Honor Guard or whatever income and UH do the
final taps for you at your funeral or homegoing service,
(27:11):
and then they would present the flag to your loved one.
So I not too long ago I had attended a
homegoing service where that was done. He had served in
the Army, and and so a couple of representatives from
the army, from their honor guard had come and did
(27:33):
the final taps h for for that service and for
that particular veteran. And then they presented the flag for
his wife. And it was it was, it was, it
was touching. You know, those of us who who had served,
we stood up and we had you know, of course,
(27:56):
honored him by putting our our place in our on
our hearts as they did this, and and it it
was a beautiful service inside the inside his final resting
place for well, his casket rather they had put his name,
his rank and all of that. It was it was
(28:16):
really really beautiful service. And so this is something that
you may want to look into for your family to
know in advance what your wishes are, what your directors are,
and find out information regarding what you would be entitled
to upon your death. Eligibility for burial in a VA
(28:40):
national cemetery. Veteran service members and some family members may
be eligible for burial in a v A national cemetery,
So you can find out if you are a person
you're planning a burial for can't get this benefit. Those
who are eligible. One of these must be true the person.
(29:02):
The person qualifying for burial benefits is a veteran who
didn't who didn't receive a dishonorable discharge or so that
means you you had to have a discharge that was
not dishonorable. The person qualifying for burial benefits is a
service member who died while on active duty, active duty
(29:23):
for training, or an active duty for training. Or the
person qualifying for burial benefits is the spouse or surviving
spouse of a veteran, even if they remained even if
they remarried after the veteran's death. And then the person
qualifying for burial benefits is the minor child of a veteran,
(29:47):
even if the veteran died first, or in some cases,
the unmarried adult dependent child of a veteran. So there
are certain criteria that enables you to be able to
be buried at a VA National cemetery. So, just to
make it simple, if you have served and you are
(30:13):
or you were honorably discharged anything other than dishonorable, then
you m uh would possibly qualify for this. Now, there
are certain groups that aren't eligible, like certain family members
That includes a former spouse who isn't. Also a veteran
(30:34):
who's marriage to an eligible veteran or a service member
ended in an annulment or divorce. A family member of
a veteran convicted of subversive activities unless the veteran receives
a pardon from the President of the United States, and
other family members who don't meet the eligibility requirements. Also
(30:55):
a person who were drafted but never entered service. People
who aren't eligible if they were ordered to report to
an induction station but were discharged at that point and
never actually entered military service. Veterans with certain character of
discharge that UH. So these veterans that aren't eligible were
(31:17):
separated under the Armed Forces under dishonorable disc on the
I'm sorry dishonorable conditions, or have a character of service
that disqualifies them. Also, a via regional office determines eligibility
in cases where the veteran has an undesirable bad conduct
or any other type of discharge other than dishonorable. Also
(31:40):
multiple multiple discharges of varying character. So basically, if you
were put out for other than UH, if you put
out for some dishonorable discharge or something dealing with your character,
then you would not qualify to be able to be
buried in the national cemetery for veterans. A veteran that
(32:01):
is found guilty of a capital crime. So veterans aren't
eligible if they were convicted of a federal or state
crime and may receive a sentence of imprisonment for life
or death penalty and the conviction is final or UH
clearing conviction. Evidence shows that they've committed a federal or
state capital crime, but they couldn't have a trial due
(32:23):
to flight to avoid prosecution or death. These veterans don't
qualify for a presidential m UH memorial certificate, burial flag, headstone,
or marker. Another thing is veterans convicted of certain sex offenses.
They aren't eligible if they were convicted of a Tier
three sex offense and sentenced to a minimum of life
(32:46):
in prison and the conviction is final. So basically I'm
not gonna go into all of that, but there are
certain conditions that you would not qualify UH for being
buried if they're if you if you felt up under
these particular conditions. So how do you qualify for a
(33:09):
burial allowance and transportation benefits? Again, you must meet the
basic qualifications, and then what type of burial because so
we just went through all of that. If you and
let me just go back through.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
A few of this.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
One of the relationships. You must be the veteran of
a surviving spouse. You're a surviving partner from a legal union.
You're a surviving child of a veteran. You're a parent
of a veteran. You're an executor or administrator of the
veterans at state, you're a family member of a veteran
who isn't the executor of the veteran state, or you're
the representative from the funeral home, cemetery or organizations. So
(33:52):
this will help you to understand. Am I eligible for allowances?
Allowances to help pay for a veteran's burial and or costs.
Now the veteran uh uh, you can't get burial allowances
for certain individuals that are on active duty, while serving
(34:15):
as a member of Congress or while serving a federal
prison sentence. For those who are actively on active duty,
there's a whole different thing for you. What kind of
benefits can you get? You can get the veteral the
v a burial allowance for burial and funeral costs. You
may be eligible for that v A PLOT or again
(34:38):
v A transportation. Now is there a time limit for filing?
If you're claiming a burial allowance for a non service
connected death or unclaimed remains, you must file a claim
within two years after the veterans burial. And it's important
to note that if you're claiming an allowance for burial
(34:58):
plot into into termit or transportation cause for a non
service connected death and the veteran died while getting VA care,
either at a VA facility or a VA facility contracted
or I'm sorry, or a facility contracted by the VA,
there is no limit to file a claim. If a
(35:19):
veteran's discharge was changed after death from dishonorable to another status,
you must file an allowance claim within two years after
the discharge update. So what documents do you need to
