Hi, and thanks for tuning in today with your host,
doctor Ko Ridge. I thank you for tuning in on
this Thursday, January the sixteenth of twenty twenty five. We
are halfway through the month already, can you believe it?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I want to just thank you all for tuning in today.
I pray that you are having a blessed and wonderful week.
I pray that the rest of the month and the
rest of the year be blessed for you as well.
For those who have made those New Year's resolutions, I
(01:23):
pray that you haven't broken them yet. Ha ha, oh
my goodness. I pray that you haven't broken them. Yet
you know, we make these New Year's resolutions. H I'm
a I'm gonna go on the diet, I'm gonna lose weight,
I'm gonna go to the gym every day, blah blah blah,
and then they're normally broken according to statistics by by March.
(01:44):
So I pray that you are not one of the
statistics who have broken them already. But we come to
you today, We honor your service to the nation, and
we give you information about God's love and salvation. Get
information that you can use rather a veteran, active duty Reserves,
first responder, or family member of someone wearing dressed whites, greens,
(02:09):
or blue. So again, thank you for tuning in today.
You know a lot of people, a lot of veterans,
deal with mental health issues, and so we're gonna be
talking about where to get help for us if you
are one that's dealing with mental health issues, because it's
(02:29):
a serious it's to be taken seriously. A lot of
veterans are dealing with anxiety, PTSD, different other issues, and
so we're gonna talk about that today. But before we
go into that, I want to go to the Word
of God. And before we get to the work. We're
(02:50):
gonna start off with prayer. We know that prayer is
our best weapon against the enemy. And we know that
the devil is busy trying to discourage us, trying to kill, steal,
and destroy. But our best prayer, Our best weapon is prayer,
and the Bible lets us know that the prayers of
(03:11):
the righteous avails much. So whatever it is that you
may be going through, or you may be interceding on
behalf of someone else, we know that we can take
it to the Lord in prayer. So let us open
up this morning with a word of prayer. Dear Heaveny
Father God, we thank you God for allowing us to
(03:33):
come into your presence this morning. Lord. We thank you
Lord for all that you've done. We thank you for
all that you're doing. We thank you for being a
mighty God, a gracious God, a good God, a loving God,
a caring God. Lord. We thank you Lord for waking
us up this morning, getting us started on our way.
We thank you for giving us the breath of life. Lord. Lord,
(03:54):
we asked right now that you will forgive us for
all our sins. We ask that you will cleanse us
from all righteousness. Lord, we ask that those things that
we have done normally unknowmly, wilfully, unwilfully, Lord, that you
will forgive us Lord and cleanse us. Lord. Lord, we
ask right now, in the name of Jesus, Lord, that
you would hear our prayers and meet every veteran's needs,
(04:18):
every active duty person's need. Lord, every one Lord that
is that has a family member serving. Lord, those that
are first responders, Lord, and we ask Lord, those are
the reservist, Lord, Coast Guard, National Guard. We ask Lord
that you would meet all their needs. Lord, in accordance
with your will. Lord, we ask right now that those
(04:40):
who are not saved, that they will come into the
acknowledgment of who you are as their loving savior, as
their redeemer, because you die for us all that we
may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly. Lord,
I ask that every person Lord right now that's dealing
with mental health illness, Lord, that you were healthy. Heal
(05:01):
the mind, heal the body, heal the spirit. Lord, because
we know whom the son says free is free indeed. Lord,
and so Lord, we just thank you right now, Lord,
if we praise you in that dvance for the things
that you're doing and gonna do in our lives. Lord.
I ask Lord that everyone that's up under the sound
of my voice, Lord, that they will be blessed by
(05:23):
this podcast, Lord, and that you would be with them,
Lord and deliver them from evil. Lord, and everyone that
is not saved, they will come to know you as
their savior and your son's name. Jesus, You're sure Hummershick,
Thank God. Amen. Amen. Amen. Well again, I pray that
(05:44):
you all are having a blessed and wonderful day, a
wonderful week. In a few days we're to have the
inauguration of our next president, and so I prayed that
we keep him lifted up in prayer, regardless of what
(06:04):
side the politics you may be on, that you keep
him lifted up in prayer. We don't want any harm
to come to him or anyone else in our nation
and in our nation's capital on that day. Lord. So
I pray Lord, that you that pray that the Lord
will bless him to be safe, and we should all
(06:25):
be praying for his safety. Amen. All right, Well, today
again we are we are, we are dealing with we
We're gonna go to the word of God. In Luke
chapter four in Luke chapter four, where Jesus drives out
of impure spirit. And we know that during the time
that Jesus was on earth, he healed many people. He
(06:50):
healed them body, mind and spirit. And so some people
were possessed by different demons, and Jesus he relieved them
of those impure spirits, he cast them out. And he's
still the same God that is delivering us from different demons.
(07:10):
It may not always be where where you're spinning around
in circles or whatever. You know, with some of the
extradies movies we used to watch back in the day,
I don't watch them anymore. But when it reminds you
of the times when you read in the Bible where
Jesus was casting out impure spirits and we still have those,
(07:35):
that's uh, that's inhabiting people today. Many people. When we
talk about depression, we talk about anxiety, we talk about panic,
we talk about stress, we talk about suicidal thoughts. Those
are impure spirits that are being attached to people. And
(07:55):
so the one that can save us from any of
these and deliver us us is Jesus. We can't do
it on our own. We have to rely on Jesus
and so in Luke chapter four. In Luke chapter four,
verse thirty one. Luke Chapter four, verse thirty one, it reads,
then he went out speaking of Jesus. Then he went
(08:15):
He went down to Campernaum, a town in Galilee, and
on the Sabbath he taught the people. They were amazed
at his teaching because his words had authority. And let
me just stop right there, because you can't go and say, well,
I'm gonna cast out a demon, but I'm weak in faith,
on weak in spirit. The devil he picks up on
(08:38):
our weaknesses. But one thing, when Jesus taught, he taught
an authority, because he is the authority, all right, he
is the living authority. So Jesus taught with authority, and
the people were amazed. They they were amazed at the
confidence that he taught in. They were amazed at his authority.
That he was not did not sound weak. He sounded
(09:01):
like he was full of authority. And he was because
he is our living authority. And in verse thirty three
it says in a synagogue there was a man possessed
by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at
the top of his voice, go away, what do you
want with us, Jesus of Nazareth, have you come to
destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One
(09:24):
of God, And so let me just stop right there.
So you have this demon who was in the synagogue. Okay,
he had possessed a man. And one thing that we
need to know about demons and is that they are
disembodied spirits. And this goes back to for those who
may have studied about the giants and different things, and
(09:46):
we're not gonna go into all of that. But when
the fallen angels had slept with the sons of the
sons of Man, which were the daughters of human beings,
and they created the nephe Limb and the giant, and
so therefore the giants were killed doing the flood. But
(10:06):
they but then they came back. And so these spirits
we're talking about, did somebody spirits and these demons, Okay,
these demons have to take hold of they take hold
of a physical body, or they can possess items, they
can even possess animals or whatever. But this man, he
(10:29):
was possessed by a demonic spirit and he cried out
because he knew who Jesus was. Isn't amazing that the
demons know who Jesus is. But sometimes people act like
they don't know who Jesus is. But these demons immediately
recognize Jesus. And they did not want to leave their host. Okay,
(10:51):
they did not want to leave the person's body whom
they had possessed. But Jesus he said to them in
verse thirty five, be quiet. Jesus said, sternly, come out
of him. Then the demon threw the man down before
the mall and came out without injuring him. And so
(11:11):
Jesus he didn't have time to say, oh, mister demon,
will you come out? No, he told him to hey,
be quiet, okay, because they were announcing who he was
before he was ready for them to do so. And
then he said come out of him. So the demon
had no choice. He didn't ask demon, will you leave?
Jesus he spoke in authority and said, demon, get out.
(11:35):
You must go okay. So he did not just give
him an option. It was not an option. When Jesus
gave a command to the demons, they had to obey.
So he came out of the man, threw the man down,
but he wasn't allowed to injure him, and he came
that demon came out of the man, and so all
(11:57):
the people were amazed and said to eat each other.
What words are these? With authority and power, he gives
orders to impure spirits and they come out, and the
news about him spread throughout the surrounding town. So the
people were amazed that Jesus was healing. He was delivering
people from demonic spirits. He was speaking life and to
(12:20):
those who were near death. And so Jesus was doing
all these miracles. But I want to skip down to
verse forty, and it says as sunset, the people brought
to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and
laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Moreover,
demons came out of many people, shouting, you are the
(12:44):
son of God. But he rebuked them and would not
allow them to speak, because they knew that he was
the Messiah. So Jesus he not only that person who
had the demon and the syn of God. There were
a lot of people who were possessed by demons, and
in today's time there are still a lot of people
(13:06):
who are possessed by demons. The demons know who Jesus is.
All right, So we definitely need to know that, Hey,
if they know who Jesus is, then we need to
know and act as if we know who Jesus is.
And Jesus is the one who can set us all free,
(13:27):
and all we have to do is go to him
in prayer, and he heals, he delivers, he sets free.
And so whatever you may be dealing with or whatever,
rather it's bipolar, rather is depression, whatever type of even narcissism,
if you will humble yourself and fall before the Master's feet,
(13:50):
there is nothing that Jesus cannot cure. We're gonna take
a quick break and we'll be back in just a moment.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Ready to bribe. I love us, Ready to bribe, Ready
to roll. I've been in the standing the brock. Then
that's a charge. So many enemies dropped, just want the

Speaker 3 (17:37):
And that is falling soldier the rap version that is
by Michael Fleming. Yeah, Michael, I'm sorry. Jonathan Michael Fleming
with ad Marine rapper with uh top for town and
de k if I'm pronouncing all those names right. And
(17:59):
you can find more of more cadences and from Jonathan
Michael Fleming on his YouTube channel, and that's Jonathan Michael
Fleming if you want to just have a a marathon
of cadences. He has a lot of cadences on his channel.
(18:23):
You can also get his merch that's on their Marine
Merch if you were a marine, and you can also
catch him on Spotify. All right, that's Jonathan Michael Fleman.
All right, all right, all right, so we are talking
about mental health. Now, I just want to let everyone
(18:43):
know if you are a veteran and you're dealing with
mental health, all you have to do is get help
from the Veteran Crisis Hotline. You can contact them. You
can call the general number of one eight hundred eight
to seven one thousand. That's one eight hundred eight to
seven one thousand. You can also on your cell called
(19:07):
nine eight eight press one. That's nine eight eight press one,
and you can get help for any type of mental
health issues. If you are a veteran, honorably discharged or
whatever extenuating circumstances and you're allowed to go to the
VA healthcare and get help.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Now, the.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Mental health they help with a variety of different issues.
I'm just gonna name some of them. They deal with anxiety, bipolar, depression,
effects of TBI, military sexual trauma, PTSD, schizophrenia, substance abuse,
suicide prevention, tobacco, and much more. So, I just want
(19:53):
to deal with a couple of these issues that the
VA helps veterans with, and one of them is dealing
with anxiety. Dealing with anxiety, and so if you are
prone to weary your angels about various things, you don't
(20:14):
know how to handle the various stresses in life, and
it caused you to be worried on the day to
be on a day to day basis. You might have
difficulty with your relationships, you're dealing with sleep problems, you're
not functioning well on the job. Then you may be
dealing with some anxiety. So I want to go over
some of them. Over to some of the symptoms that
(20:35):
anxiety can include feeling restless, jumpy, or on the edge.
You may be worrying a lot about various issues. You
may have difficulty concentrating on the job or in various
areas at school or other places. You may have clammy hands,
you might your heart might raise, you may be trembling
(20:59):
or twitching. You might have difficulty catching your breath. You
might have trouble sleeping at night. And you might be nauseous,
light headed, or dizzy.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Those are some.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Signs of anxiety. You might have a social anxiety, which
he deals with being in social situations. You might have
a social phobia. You might have a generalized anxiety, which
there's just various types of anxiety. You might be dealing
with panic attacks, all right, or other specific phobia. So
(21:33):
that's one of the things that the military or should
I say VA can help you with if you're dealing
with that particular type of anxiety. Now, you have some
people that had sexual trauma in the military. So when
the military uses MST, that means military sexual trauma and
(21:57):
that refers to a sexual assault of threat, retning sexual
harassment experience while you were serving on military service. So
MST includes any sexual activity doing military service in which
you were involved against your will or when you were
unable to say no. And so here's some examples being
(22:20):
pressured or coursed into sexual activities, such as with threats
of negative treatment if you refuse to cooperate or with
promises of better treatment. Let me use an example. When
I was just getting in the military. I had just
got in, I had you know, passed boot camp and everything,
(22:41):
and then I had they had sent me to my
military trade school, which was in Meridian, Mississippi. And so
it was this petty officer that he liked me, but
I was not interested in him. Okay. So I you
you know, you don't know all the ins and outs
(23:03):
when you were first going into the military a lot
of times, and so, uh, you know, I didn't know
that what I was going to be dealing with was
sexual harassment. So basically, he he wanted to he had
bought me, actually had bought me this bouquet of flowers,
which was nice, but I wasn't really interested in him
(23:23):
like that, you know, And so he thought that he
was going to get some extracurricular activities going on with me,
which I was not interested Okay, Okay. So basically he
told me that if I didn't pay the play in
a sense that he was gonna make my work harder.
(23:46):
So instead of me having the easier jobs that I
normally had, he was going to have me doing the
harder jobs was consisted of cleaning and all that kind
of stuff, whereas I had easier normally easier. So I
just told him no, I wasn't interested. And the next
thing I know, I was on scrub duty while he
(24:08):
had this other young lady that was sitting on his lap,
and I just looked at him and I didn't care.
I was not interested in him, and hey, I took
the scrub duty with pride. But the thing is is
that I didn't know at the time that that was
a case of sexual harassment and he was not supposed
(24:28):
to do that because he was over me, and so
that was that he was totally out of line, all right,
So if someone does this to you in the military,
that is something that you need to talk to your
superiors about. But I didn't say anything because I didn't
think that anyone would believe me, and because I was
(24:49):
new and he had already know he had been in
the service for some time. Because I think he was
like a petty officer third class and I'm just aaron
just getting out of bootque then I didn't think, you know,
anyone would believe me, so I just kept quiet about it. Now,
if I had to do that all over again, I
(25:09):
would have made a different choice, but at the time
I didn't know. So anyway, that's that was that. Now.
Another thing was sexual conduct or activities without your consent,
including when you were asleep or intoxicated. So if someone
does something to you sexually without your consent, you're not
(25:32):
able to give consent your sleep, or you're you've been
drugged or intoxicated, then that is sexual Uh. That can
cause military sexual trauma. Being overpowered or physically forced to
have sex, in other words, rape, being touched or grabbed
in a sexual way that made you uncomfortable, including doing
(25:55):
during hazing, experiences, comments about your body or sexual activities
that you found threatening, and also unwanted sexual advances that
you found threatening. So these are things that can lead
to military sexual trauma. And the result of this experience can.
(26:19):
For one, it get caused you have nightmares or disturbing memories.
It can cause you to not feel safe. It can
cause you to have depression or numbness. It can cause
you to go into drugs or alcohol to as an
escape mechanism. It can cause you to feel isolated from
other people. You may experience anger, irritability or strong emotions.
(26:43):
You may have self doubt, You may blame yourself or
have a decrease of self esteem. You may deal with
sleep problems or other health problems. If you have dealt
with any of this and while you were serving in
the military, please get help because it is so important
(27:05):
to if you can to be proactive for your own
health and for your own emotional health, then to not
talk to anyone. Another thing that a lot of military
veterans deal with and those that may be serving is PTSD. PTSD,
(27:30):
so sometimes you may have experience a traumatic event. It
can be it can be an ied blast, it could
be a car accident, it could be military sexual trauma
or the death of a service member, and it bothers
you for an extended period of time, and that means
it's constantly replanning your head. Sometimes, when someone has post
(27:54):
traumatic stress syndrome or otherwise known as PTSD, you may
avoid certain places. You may have nightmares, anxiety, sleeplessness. You
may feel numb or hyper aware of your surroundings and
so you might find it hard to concentrate. You might
(28:14):
lose interest in things that you used to care about.
You might even try to dull the pain by turning
to drugs and our alcohol. So if you have experienced
any of this, then you may want to talk to someone,
and the VA have a lot of counselors that are
(28:36):
on staff that can help you last, but not least.
And this is just we're just going over just the
surface of things that the VA can help you with
when it comes to mental health issues. But the thing
is is that at least you know where you can
(28:57):
go if you have a problem in this particular area.
It's not you that's the issue. It's just things that
happen in the course of your military journey that may
have caused some things to take place and you were
having trouble possibly processing it, and so therefore you want
(29:22):
someone who can help you to walk that journey out.
So one thing that we want to prevent when it
comes to veterans is suicide. There are seventeen suicides by
veterans a day a day, and that's seventeen too many.
(29:44):
So suicide, it doesn't have a single cause, but it
can be caused by various things. There's the VA's National
strategy for presenting Veterans suicide. So this is to help
those who are dealing with issues that can lead to suicide,
and the VA is committed to helping prevent those that
(30:08):
are possibly dealing with suicide. And if you want to
talk to someone, please call the Crisis hotline. It's available
twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. You
can down nine eight eight and then press one nine
eight eight, then press one, or you can chat with
the Veteran Crisis Line dot net, forward slash chat, or
(30:29):
text eight three eight two five five. That's eight three
eight two five five. If all else failed, just call
the one eight hundred eight two seven one thousand number
and then they can forward you to a veteran counselor.
Do not think that, oh well I don't have anyone
(30:50):
to talk to. You can talk to a VA counselor
and someone will be there to help you. And we
want to in veterans suicide. No one should feel as
if they're alone. Well, this ends today's podcast, and I
pray that it has been informative to you. If you
(31:15):
have not if you have gotten out of the military
and you have not signed up for VA healthcare, all
you have to do is go to your closest VA
and go there and sign up take your DD two
fourteen and sign up so that you can get into
VA healthcare system. I know the VA gets wrapped with
(31:38):
a lot of various things for us being slow or whatever,
but there is also a lot of good services and
they try to do what they can to help our veterans.
So please take advantage of it. If you are a veteran,
if you are getting ready to get out, go ahead
(31:59):
and sign up and get into the VA system so
that you can get the healthcare that you need. All right,
we are a body here. I pray today's podcast has
been a blessing to you and that you will succeed
and thrive. And if you are a veteran, if you
(32:21):
are active duty, reservist or service member first responder, know
that God loves you and I do too. Until next time.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Thanks for tuning in to Veterans in Christ. We pray
that you found today's podcast informative and we look forward
to being with you again during the next podcast. May
the Lord blessed and keep you going out and coming in.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
M
