(01:55):
this with them and others who may be in uniform.
So we want to just thank you today for joining
in with us. We today we're talking about we're going
to be actually talking about via disability housing grants. Many
people veterans may not know that there are certain grants
(02:17):
that you may qualify for in order to have your
home rehab or to even purchase a home that has
been rehabbed or whatever for your particular disability.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
So we're going to be talking about that later on.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
But before we begin, as always, I love to begin
with a word of prayer, because we as veterans in Christ,
we know that our greatest weapon that God has given
us is the weapon of prayer. Prayer is a weapon
against the devices of the enemy, and the devil hates
(02:55):
when we come together in prayer. And so whatever you
may be going through. Prayer is your best weapon because
we know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but we wrestle against principalities of dark powers and forces,
things that are in the supernatural, that may manifest in
(03:17):
the natural. But when you're thinking that I'm struggling with this,
I'm struggling with that. It's a spiritual battle. And so
your best weapon against the enemy is prayer. And yes,
the devil is the enemy. Anything that's coming against you
isn't enemy, and prayer helps us through those challenges. We
(03:39):
know that prayer is the weapon that helps the impossible
to become possible.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
In the eyes of God. And so God, here is
our prayers.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
The Bible says that the prayers of the righteous avails
much so this morning, whatever you're going through, whether you're vethering,
you're going through various issues, if you're on active duty,
if you're a first responder, if you're a family member
of either of those groups, we want to pray for you. So,
(04:10):
Dear Heavenly Father God, we just thank you, Father for
allowing us to come into your presence. Lord, We thank
you Lord for all that you've done for us, all
that you've been to us all that you are to us. Lord,
we ask Lord that you will forgive us for all
our sins. We ask that you will cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
We know Lord that you desire for us to live
in peace among our fellow brothers, but we know that
sometimes that's not possible. But we ask Lord that you
will help us to be at peace with all people
as much as it depends on us.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Lord, we ask right now that you will meet every
veteranus need in accordance with your will.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
We ask Lord that those that are suffering from PTSD,
those that are maybe suffering from suicidal thoughts, those that
may be suffering from loneliness, depression, panic, where we stress,
relationship issues, financial issues, whatever it is. Lord, we ask
Lord that you will help those that are going through
right now, any situation that we have is veterans lawd
(05:15):
we ask that you will he'll deliver.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
And set free in the name of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Lord, we pray right now for those that are on
active duty, Lord, we ask Lord that you will meet
their needs in accordance with your wheel.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Lord.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
We know that sometimes.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
There's a lot of stress that's on the families when
their loved ones are separated. Lord, but we ask Lord
that you will create a stronger bond with those families
that are in you. In the name of Jesus. Lord,
we pray Lord, for them to be able to be
soldiers Lord, and airmen, and all those that serve, Lord,
(05:52):
be service personnel that represent you on the job, off
the job, in uniform, out of uniform. In the name
of Jesus, we pray for the first responders right now,
in the name of Jesus, we pray for the firemen.
We pray for the paramedics. We pray for the police officers,
sheriff's office. Lord, those that are in that capacity. Lord,
(06:15):
we ask that you would be with them, guide them, Lord,
and deliver them from whatever issues they may have. And
those who do not know you, that they will come
to the acknowledgement of who you are and accept you
as their Lord and savior. Right now, in the name
of Jesus, Lord, we pray for military families. Right now, Lord,
(06:36):
we pray for those that are still serving. To those
that have, Lord, we pray Lord that you will bring unity. Lord,
that you will help couples to be able to still
be strong even when they're a part or when their
loved ones come back. Lord, and they may have seen
some different things. Lord, but we ask Lord that you
will help them to be.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
United in You. In the name of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
We pray for the Lord that oftentimes have to go
from place to place whenever their loved ones or their
family members, they are their parents or in the military. Lord,
we ask right now, Lord, that they will be able
to bond and have new friendships wherever they may go, Lord,
and that they be designed by you.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
In the name of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Lord, we just pray for the chaplain's Lord, that are
ministering to those who are on active duty and those
who are veteranus. Lord, we pray that they will give
sound biblical advice in accordance with your word.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Lord.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
We just pray Lord that you just cover your people today. Lord,
we ask all these things and your son's name Jesus,
You're sure Ahamashik, thank God, Amen, Amen, Amen. Oh I
pray that you all are having a blessed day. You
woke up this morning. You are a blessed regardless of
(07:56):
whatever situation you may find yourself in. If you are alive,
if you are able to to hear this podcast. If
you're able to see, if you're able to move, if
you're able to think, you are blessed. It doesn't matter
whatever your situation is saying to you. Right now, we
(08:17):
know that there is power in Jesus' name, and so
therefore we can always call up on him and he
answers us a man. Today, I want to just go
We're gonna be talking about housing grants for VA disability,
but I want to just go into before we go
(08:38):
into that, I want to go to talk about Niamyah
and and him inspecting Jerusalem's walls, inspecting Jerusalem's walls, and
we see that if you if you ever read the
book of Nea Amyah, I pray that you would actually
read all the books of the Bible, because there's so
(09:01):
much information in the books that you know, we oftentimes
may sometimes tend to overlook. A lot of people don't
read the books or the prophets, but there's a lot
of information in all the books that are relevant for today.
You can always find something in the Word of God
(09:23):
that is relevant for us during the time that we
currently live in Okay, And so people may say, oh, well,
that's an archaic book and.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
It was written by man.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
And all these things, well, the Word of God lets
us know that everything that was written was inspired by him.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
They did not take it up.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
On themselves to write, but they but the books that
we see, the chapters that we see within the Word
of God, was inspired by God. And so letting no
one fool you that, oh, well, that's an old book,
or some people that's a white man's book. This book
is for every raise, every creed, every sex with both sexes. Rather,
(10:03):
it's not every sex but male and female. And this
is for everyone, and so it's relevant for us today
and we need to take heed to what it says.
With that being said, if you will turn with me
to Na Maya. Excuse me, I have allergies and sinuss
right now, so bear with me. If I'm clearing my throat.
(10:26):
I do apologize. My allergies and sinuss have been acting up.
But please, I do apologize for that, Nea Maya. We're
gonna turn to Nei Amaya chapter two, Nia Nia Maya
chapter two, and I want to just I want to
start at verse one, but we're gonna skip to verse eleven.
(10:48):
Skip to verse eleven, and just to give you a
little too. Background on Jeremiah, I mean not Jeremiah, nia Mayah, Neamyah.
We know that the children of Israel and those in
Judah had been taken into captivity. So you had those
in Judah who had disregarded the warnings of God by
(11:11):
the prophets, and they had been rebellious, and they had
been called up in idolatry and all kinds of different
wicked things, the baudry that was against the Lord. And
so the Lord that had judged Judah and he had
allowed them to go into captivity. And they had been
taken by the Babylonians during the time of King nebk Nezzar,
(11:33):
and therefore some after seventy years, because the Lord had
told them that they were going to be in captivity
for seventy years, but after seventy years then they would
be permitted to go back to their homeland of Jerusalem Judah.
And so Neemyah was one of the ones that was
(11:56):
that was able to would have been able to go
back doing that particular time, but not all the not
all of those that were in Julia actually went back.
So during this particular time, ni Amayah was serving under
the Persian Empire, now we know that the mes and
the Persians came and they overtook Babylon. So Babylon had
(12:21):
fallen itself during this particular time, Babylon had been judged.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
So therefore we know that during the time of Daniel
with the handwriting on the wall with Belshazzar and and
so that particular night Babylon was overtaken by the Means
and the Persians. So that's just to give you a
brief history of h of where we're at right now
(12:48):
with regards to Niamaya serving under the Persian Empire, and
the king doing this particular time was King of Xersees Assersees.
So Nia Maya was a cup bearer, and during that time,
the king's kings would often have what we would call
(13:11):
cup bearers, and cup bearers were those that would bring
the kings drink, bring the kings wine or whatever he wanted. However,
they often were to taste testers at also because sometimes
you had those that wanted to assassinate the king.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
So therefore they would put.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Poison in the king's drink. And if the king did
not have a cup barrel, who would taste tests? Okay,
So this was a human taste tester to taste to
make sure that there was no poison in the drink.
Now the cup burro fell dead, then the king would
know for sure not to take that particular drink, all right.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
So but the cup.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Barrel was more than just a person who tastes tested
the king's drinks, his cupburl.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
He would also he would also.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Be one that would uh be the king's confidante. So
whatever was going on, the king would sometimes talk and
confide in his cupbur and therefore he was a trusted confidante.
So we see that neel Mayah here was more than
just say. He was more than just a cupbur He
(14:27):
was the king's confidant and he had the king's ear.
If you recall, excuse me if you if you recall
going back to Egypt in Pharaoh during Joseph's time, when Joseph,
prior to Joseph being made governor of Egypt, he had
actually gave an interpretation of a dream that want that
(14:51):
the cupburough that was in prison at the time had
had told him about, and for him the cupburol, it
was good news that that the cupbird was going to
be returned to his his original position with the king. However,
the baker was not so fortunate, so therefore he was
(15:13):
he was actually hung, I believe hong are Yeah, I
think it was hung because his dream was different. Now,
Neel Maya had gotten when that there was a lot
of work that needed to be done in Jerusalem. During
the time that that king Nebknezar had come in, and
(15:35):
especially the second time had come in and taken the
those that were left to back to Babylon. There was
a lot of destruction. People died, the walls were breached,
the temple was destroyed, and and there was a lot
of reconstruction that needed to be done. So imagine coming
(15:57):
back from or returning from cap activity to find everything
in ruins. Okay, So that is part of what you
see in war when there is war that everything will
you know, depend upon where the war is fought, everything will.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Be in ruins.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
So Neel Mayah had gotten the word from what some
say was his brother, one of his brothers, that that
Jerusalem was in really bad shape. The walls of Jerusalem
had been breached. So in nee Mayah chapter one, and
I want to just give you just a little bit,
(16:38):
I gave you a little of history, and we're going
to read one and two, and then we're gonna skip
to eleven. In the month of Nissan, in the twentieth
year of King Augxersese, when wine was brought for him,
I took the wine and gave it to the king.
I had not I had not been sad in his
presence before. So the King asked me, why does your
face look so sad when you are not ill? This
(17:02):
was nothing but sadness of heart. I was very much afraid,
but I said to the King made the king live forever.
Why should my face not look sad when a city
where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins and its
gates have been destroyed by fire. So prior to this,
Niamayah had prayed to the Lord because Niamayah felt an urge,
(17:27):
I believe by the spirit of God that he needed
to say something to the king, and therefore he wanted
it was on his heart to go check out what
the report that he had been told, so that he
could do something about it.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
So he had.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
Prayed before he had went before the king that the
Lord would give him favor with the King. So we're
gonna skip down to verse eleven, and it says I
went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days, I
set out doing the night with a few others. I
had not told any one what my God had put
in my heart to do. By for Jerusalem. There was
(18:05):
no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.
By night, I went through the valley gate, through the
jack through the Jackal Wall, and the dung Gate, examining
the walls of Jerusalem which had been broken down in
his gates, which had been destroyed by fire. Then I
moved on toward the fountain gate and the King's Pool,
(18:26):
but there was not enough room for my mount to
get through, So I went up the valley by now
by night, examining the wall. Finally I turned back and
re entered through the valley gate. So I'm gonna start
right here. So we have Neel Mayah going and he's
examining this gate. He was on his mount, and therefore
(18:47):
he went to see what was actually happening with the walls.
He needed to do an inspection.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Have you ever had a contractor.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
If you lived in a house, or maybe even a
rental or something like that, and they come to inspect
for those of us who are homeowners. We may have
had an appraisal on our houses. So the appraiser comes
and looks at everything to see what the value of
the property is. You may have a contractor that comes
(19:21):
and there's certain things that may need to be done,
and so the contractor has to come out and inspect
to see what needs to be done. Recently, I had
some work done for us putting a washer and draw
a hookup in my kitchen because I have problems with
my knees and so therefore my hookup is really in
(19:45):
my basement. But I didn't want to have to go
up and down the steps of the basement. Anyone who
has knee problems you know what I'm talking about. It
can be we're in tear. When you already have wear
and tear on your knees, you really don't want to
be going up and down a lot of steps.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
So what I did was I had.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
A plumber to come out and an electrician and they
did the hookup to have the Washington hookup in my kitchen.
So now my washing drawer is in my kitchen. Actually
a lot of people are doing that these days. You
might even go into some places and there's a nice
Washington drawer hookup in the kitchen area, and it looks
really nice because it goes in with everything else that's
(20:25):
in the kitchen. So that's what I had to have done.
But before they could do it, they had to come
out and inspect. So this is what Neil Maya was doing,
was inspecting the walls. In verse seventeen, verse sixteen, it
goes to say that the officials did not know where
I had gone or what I was doing, because I
had as yet, I had said nothing to the Jews
(20:48):
or priests or nobles, or officials or any others who.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Would be doing the work.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Then I said to them, you see, the trouble we
were in Jerusalem lies in ruins, and these gates have
been burnt with fire. Come let let us rebuild the
wall of Jerusalem and we will no longer be in disgrace.
I also told them about the gracious hand of my
God on me and what the King had said to me.
They replied, let us start rebuilding so we can begin
(21:14):
this good work. And let me just read the nineteen
Let me just start right there for a minute, because
I want to make a comment on that. So the
King we know that God had already declared that Israel
or Judah would return back to the homeland. But they
were also going to have favor with God for us
(21:36):
the rebuilding process, because when you're coming from captivity, you
don't have anything. Let me just make a mention about history,
if you know the history within the United States, within
the United States after the Civil War, where slaves were
declared to be free. But a lot of slaves did
not have anything, okay, and so therefore later on they
(22:01):
were promised forty acres and the mule, and we know that,
you know, they did not actually get that what they
were promised, so they had to start from the ground
up with not having anything. So this is what was
going on with Judah. Those that had went back to Jerusalem.
They were starting from scratch. They did not have anything,
(22:22):
Unlike when they left Egypt. When the Israelites had left Egypt,
they God allowed them to plunder the Egyptians. So they
were sent away with gold and silver and all these things.
But God had a plan, okay, So they were not
gonna have to come out of their own which was
nothing at the time, to rebuild the walls. God had
(22:44):
already made provision for them. For the Persians to give
them what they needed in order to build the walls.
Isn't it something how God would give you what you need.
You may not have it, But God is a provider.
He is our Jehovah jarra, which means he is our provider.
(23:07):
And whatever it is that you're believing God for to
provide for you in accordance with his will, he will,
he will do. And it was his will that Jerusalem
be rebuilt as well as the temple can. So we
see here that God had sent.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
In the Amayah.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
He had laid it on Nia a Mayah's heart to
start the rebuilding process. And therefore the Amayah it was
expecting what need to be done. But when it's about it,
the Hordnite and Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Gisham the
Arab heard about it. They mocked and ridiculed us. What
(23:50):
is this you are doing? They asked, or you rebellion,
rebelling against the king? I answered them by saying, the
God of Heaven will give us success. We his service
will start rebuilding. But as for you, you have no share
in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.
So whenever you're trying to do something, you will a
(24:10):
lot of times have those that are are coming.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Up against you.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
They're in opposition to what you're doing. It may not
have nothing to do with them, as we see here,
but you would sometimes have those well why are you
doing that? And why do you think you deserve this?
And I see a lot a lot of times on
some of the veteran sub whether it's Redded or other
(24:35):
veteran pages, and you will have those naysayers.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Well, why do you think you deserve this? And why?
Speaker 3 (24:41):
This is why Neel Mayah was quiet for a long
time and did not tell anyone what he was doing.
Because sometimes you can't tell everyone what you're planning and
what you're doing. You will have those that will come
up against you just for the sake of coming up
against you. They're not doing any themselves. What you're doing
has no effect on anything that they're doing. But they
(25:05):
will come up against you just because they're crabs in
a bucket.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
You know how crabs do.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
You will have a crabs in a bucket, and when
one is about to make it to freedom, you will
have one that yank them back down just because they
can do it. And so Therefore neel Mayah. He had
been quiet about why he was going to Jerusalem and
what he was doing. But when others found out eventually
about it, then you had a few that had something
(25:32):
to say. But the thing is, what God has for
you will be for you. And this is why whenever
God opens the door and allows you to have a blessing,
then pray still pray even that much more because you
will have the devil's imps that would try to come
and discarage you or try to put a blockade to
(25:57):
keep you from being able to progress in the things
that God.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Has for you.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
And even more so when you say, oh, God has
blessed me, pray even more because the devil doesn't want
you to be able to receive the fulfillment or the
fullness of that blessing. But whatever God has for you
is for you. But don't stop praying. Always know that
the enemies around trying to block whatever God is doing
(26:26):
in your life, but you will not be defeated.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Just operate in prayer.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
And we're gonna take a quick break, and when we
come back, we're gonna talk about some of the veteran
disability grants that you may be eligible for if you're
gonna be get out of the military, or if you're
already out, and you may not have heard of any
of these grants that may be available, because, let's just
(26:55):
be frank, you're not always told this when you're exiting
the cherry. They don't always tell you about what you're
entitled to. So a lot of times veterans don't know
things until someone exposed them to it. We're gonna take
a quick break and we'll be back in just a moment.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Some word. There's a mother. She's crying.
Speaker 6 (27:20):
Father boy, he's a US soldier with thoughts to the ploy.
So don't you shot him, No tears. He don't need
your sympathy because he's a US soldier.
Speaker 2 (27:43):

Speaker 5 (28:11):

He wan somewhere. There's a system.
Speaker 2 (28:22):

He's just defolded flag's. Don't you shed him, No tears,

Don't sympathy. You grew up to be a soldier. That's
all he wants to be.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
And that is somewhere there's a mother.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
And that's a military cadence by Jonathan Michael Flemming.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
And you can listen.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
He has a lot of cadences that's on YouTube, Spotify
and maybe some other channels. By know those two for sure,
and you can catch him. He has a lot of
cadences that if you just want to go Cadence Marathon,
you can listen to him on YouTube and Spotify. He
(30:25):
also has on his channel fundraiser that he's doing for
to house homeless veterans and it's in support of gold
Star Families, so you can donate and on their on
his channel. Again, that's Jonathan Michael Fleman. All right, So
(30:45):
today we are talking about we are talking about disability
housing grants for veterans. Disability housing grants for veterans, and
you can get more information at www dot va dot gov.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
Www dot va dot gov.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
And if you have never heard of these grants, we're
gonna go into a little bit of it and then
you can do more in depth information on your own
if you are interested. So, disability housing grants are for
veterans and service members with certain service connected disabilities so
they can buy or change a home to meet their
(31:28):
needs and live more independently. Changing a home might involve
installing ramps or widening doorways, so you can find out
if you're eligible, and it does a lot of other
different things. Many veterans have been able to utilize these
grants some if they if they have gone through various
(31:51):
situations and they need help in order to be able
to make it where they can live more independently.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Well, that's where these grants helped.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
So in order to find out if you are eligible
for a grant, this is called The first one we're
gonna talk about is the Especially Adapted Housing Grant, especially
Adapted Housing Grant, and that's also short for SHA or
SHA is short for Especially Adapted Housing Grant. And this
(32:22):
is to buy, to build or change your permanent home,
a home that you're going to live in for a
long time. And in order to meet these requirements, you
must own or will own your home, and you have
a qualifying service connected disability. So with this one, it
(32:43):
has to be a service connected. That means that you
have gone to the VA, you have filed your disability claim,
and the VA has determined that you are service connected
for a certain disability that falls within these qualifying factors.
(33:07):
And those disabilities are number one, the loss or loss
of use of more than one limb, so you have
lost a limb or you have lost their use of
so for example, you may still have your arm, but
you're not able to use it. Okay, it might be
(33:27):
whatever has happened Service connected, you're not able to use it.
The loss or a loss of use of a lower leg,
along with the residuals lasting effects of an organic, natural
disease or injury.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
So if you have lost or a loss of use
of a lower leg or something along that line. Blindness
and both eyes with twenty two hundred visual acuity or less. Okay,
so blindness certain severe terms may qualify you for this. Also,
(34:03):
the loss or loss of use of one lower extremity
foot or leg after September eleven, two thousand and one,
which makes it so you can't balance or walk without
the help of braces, crutches, canes.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Or a wheel chair. Okay. Now there's a note.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
It says only one hundred and twenty veterans and service
members each fiscal year can qualify for a grant based
on the loss of one extremity after September eleven, twenty eleven,
is set by Congress. A fiscal year runs from October
to one through September thirtieth.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
If you qualify for.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
A grant in the fiscal year but you can't receive
it because of the one hundred and twenty grant limit.
You may be able to receive this benefit in future years.
So that means that only one hundred and twenty twenty veterans,
only one hundred and twenty veterans, which is not that's
of small amount or able to qualify for this particular grant.
(35:04):
But don't forget that even if you are not in
that one twenty because they may have maxed out, you
can still reapply the following year. Okay, So don't think that, oh,
they denied me. If you apply and you didn't get accepted,
and you know you qualify, it might be that they
(35:24):
reach their max and so you have to keep trying,
all right. So if you qualify for this grant, you
can get up to one hundred and seventeen thousand dollars
and one hundred seventeen fourteen dollars for the fiscal year,
and this is for twenty twenty four. That's one hundred
over a little bit over one hundred and seventeen thousand dollars.
(35:46):
This is the current total maximum allowed for sh I'm sorry, sah,
that's s a H grants. Remember this is a grant
that's called Specially Adapted Housing s AH for shorts.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Okay, So that's that one grant.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Now there is another grant that you may be able
to qualify for that's a lesser amount, and this is
for a special home adaptation. Special home adaptation. You may
be able to get an SHA that stands for special
Home adaptation. If you're using the grant money to buy, build,
(36:28):
or change your permanent home. That means your permanent residence
is a residence that you're living in for a long time.
So if you have bought a home and this is
your permanent residence, okay, and you meet both of what
we're gonna talk about these requirements, So both of these.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
Must be true.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
You are a family member, will own or do own
the home, and you have a qualifying service connected disability.
So it has to be a qualifying service connected disability.
If you qualify for an SAH or I'm sorry, Sha Sha,
(37:06):
you can get up to twenty three thousand, four hundred
and forty four thousand for the twenty twenty four fiscal year.
Remember it runs from October the first through September thirtieth.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
Okay, do I have the total grant amount for this year?
Speaker 3 (37:23):
No? If you're eligible for SAH, or SHA. You can
use money from your grant up to six different times
over your lifetime. So that means that once they qualify
you for this, then you can use it up to
six times as long and if it doesn't go over
that amount that they have approved you for. So depending
(37:45):
on the adaptations you need and the bid from your bidder,
you can use as much or as little of your
grant as you need this year. If you don't use
the full amount, you can use more money from the
grant in future years. That means that you don't have
to use it all at one time.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
So once they.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Approve you, then if you don't use the four grant
at that one time, you can still use it because
it's still yours to use. Once you're approved for in
the future, they say that we may adjust the total
maximum amount each year based on the cost of construction.
You may receive up to the current total amount for
(38:23):
the last year you use the grant. All right, So
there's also something for a grant eligibility for a temporary home.
Can I get money to change a family member's home
where I am living? That means that this is not
your home, but this is a temporary home. So you
might be living with a family member, Okay, someone that
(38:45):
may be giving you care or allowing you to live
there with them. Can you get a temporary A grant
for temporary home? So it says you may be able
to get a temporary residence adaptation that's called a t
r A again, and it's temporary residence adaptation t r
A grant if you meet both of these requirements.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
That means that you must have a qualify. You must
qualify for an s a H.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Or an s a H grant, and you're living temporarily
in a family member's home and needs changes to meet
your needs. So in order to qualify for a t
r A grant, which is a temporary residence adaptation grant,
you don't have to own the home. That means that
(39:33):
I can if you qualify for s a H or
an s h A grant and you don't own the
home that you're living in, but that person will allow
you to make changes because you're temporary living with them,
then you can use the grant, what it's called a
Temporary Residence Adaptation grant or t r A grant to
(40:00):
modify that person's home.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
To meet your need.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Okay, So that you still can use the grant. How
much funding does a t r A grant for qualify.
If you qualify for an SAH grant, you can get
up to forty seven thousand, one hundred and thirty dollars
through the t r A Grant program for the fiscal
year of twenty twenty four. If you qualify for an
(40:28):
SHA grant, you can get up to eight thousand, four
hundred and fifteen thousand through the t r A Grant
program for the fiscal year of twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
So depended upon which grant you qualify for.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
If they determine you qualify for SAH, which is the
higher one of one hundred and seventeen thousand, but you're
living somewhere temporarily, then you will qualify for forty seven thousand.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
If you qualify for the lesser.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
Grant, which is a SHA which goes up to twenty
three thousand or whatever, then you can get up to
eight four hundred and fifteen dollars if you qualify for
that up under the Temporary Residents Adaptation Grant.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
So how do you apply for this grant?
Speaker 3 (41:18):
You can apply by mail or in person, or you
can also apply online.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
So you can get and it's very easy. It's not
difficult if you're doing it online. You go to the
VA dot UV or type in.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
SAH grant or SHA grant and it's the same form,
I believe. Let me make sure to get that form
number for you, because actually both of them use the
same form. Many people may not know that, but both
of them use the same form. The form number is
let me pull this up, okay, The form number is
(41:59):
twenty six. That's four five five five. That's form number
twenty six. That's four five five five. That's for the
s A H and SHA. Now, since both of those
use the same form, you don't have to fill out
two separate ones to see if you qualify for either.
Then once you fill out this particular form and is
(42:20):
received by the VA, then they will make the determination
as to which grants that you that you may qualify four.
Of course, they have to go over your medical record
and everything and make that determination. So you can get
more information by going to the VA dot UV. You
(42:40):
can also call one eight hundred eight two seven one thousand,
that's one eight hundred eight two seven one thousand in
order to see what you may qualify four or once
they give them a few weeks. Once you do the application,
give them you might want to give them a few weeks.
(43:00):
You can always check this and make sure that they
received it, but give them a few weeks to I
was told that you only take them about three to
four weeks to make a determination, So I don't know
what the process is after that, for how long it
takes to get that. But let me just say this
one thing that is so important. I'm sure they'll give
(43:21):
you all this information should you qualify. One thing that
is so important is to make sure that if you
are approved, make sure when you get a contracted that
that contract because the VA is not going to just
pay anybody to do the work, Okay, that perfect person
has to be bonded, license and all of that. I
believe the VA pays once the contract, once the project
(43:46):
is eighty percent complete. I've read that the other day.
But you can double check just to verify, but I
believe they pay. They are paid something once the contract
is eighty percent complete. With that being said, you want
to make sure that you have a contractor that is
(44:08):
willing to work within the within the confines of what the.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
VA program offers.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
If they're not willing to do that, and they're telling
you that you must you have to take money up
that they want money up front, which is not a
never good idea, but money up front, or you have
to buy supplies, then you need to find someone else.
You want to make sure that you're not stuck with
the bill, and therefore you get everything approved by the
v A. First, should you get approof of this and
(44:38):
make sure you follow the godlines in accordance with the VA.
Don't go, oh, I'm gonna have this done and then
the vas gonna reimburse. They're not entitled to do anything
if you go ahead of them. Okay, so make sure
that you follow the rules and regulations, and whoever you
may hire, let them be approved by the VA first,
(44:59):
be before you start getting any work done. If you
are accepted into that particular grant program.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
All right, we are a body here.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
You can always go to VA dot gov VA dot
gov to get the information. Their main number for the
VA National hotline is one eight hundred eight two seven
one thousand. That's one eight hundred eighty two seven one thousand.

suicidal thoughts, Please call that number one eight hundred eight
(45:29):
to seven one thousand. They will send you, transfer you

that you may be dealing with, because you are not alone.
